We propose a multi-sensor fusion localization framework for autonomous heavy-duty trucks suitable for mining scenarios, which enables high-precision, real-time trajectory generation and map construction. The motion estimated through pre-integration of the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) can eliminate distortions in the point cloud and provide an initial guess for LiDAR odometry optimization. The point cloud information obtained from LiDAR can assist in recovering depth information from image features extracted by the monocular camera. To ensure real-time performance, we introduce an iKD-Tree to organize the point cloud data. To address issues arising from bumpy road segments and long-distance driving in practical mining scenarios, we can incorporate a large number of relative and absolute measurements from different sources, such as GPS information and AprilTag-assisted localization data, including loop closure as factors in the system. Today, reducing vehicle energy consumption is a crucial topic. For electric vehicles, reducing energy consumption is essential to address some of the most critical issues associated with this type of vehicle, such as the limited range of electric powertrains and the long battery recharging times. To lower the environmental impact during the vehicle’s use phase and reduce energy consumption, vehicle mass reduction (lightweighting) is an effective strategy. The objective of this work is to analyze the vehicle parameters that influence lightweighting outcomes on a real driving cycle, representative of the home-to-work travel in the northern Italy. In particular, a previous work carried out on standard driving cycles is repeated, in order to observe whether it is possible to draw the same conclusions regarding the variability of the lightweighting outcome. This study was conducted using two opposite vehicle models, a compact car and an N1 vehicle, simulated through a well-established vehicle simulation tool for energy consumption estimation. The study reveals that even for the real driving cycle, as for the WLTC and US06 standards, the parameters that most influence the outcome of the lightening are rolling resistance, the characteristics of the battery pack, the aerodynamic coefficients and the efficiency of the transmission. Finally, the standard cycle that best fits with the real one considered in this study is the Artemis Urban Cycle.

This study examines the dynamic fluid behavior of a PWM-controlled Solenoid-Operated Gas Admission Valve (SOGAV) for large-bore CNG engines using 3D CFD simulations with dynam-ic mesh techniques. The research focuses on the influence of orifice geometry variations in the multi-hole restrictor and pressure differentials between the inlet and outlet on flow stability, turbulence, and valve performance. Results demonstrate that multi-hole restrictors with differ-ent-sized orifices improve flow uniformity and reduce turbulence, thereby mitigating flow re-sistance. Transient simulations further reveal standing wave formation and pressure wave in-terference, emphasizing that steady-state models cannot capture critical transient phenomena, such as accelerated and decelerated jet-like flows and flow separation. These findings provide key insights into SOGAV optimization, contributing to enhanced fuel efficiency and engine re-sponsiveness, meeting the performance requirements of modern gas engines.

The automotive industry is under growing pressure from regulatory agencies to improve the recyclability of their plastic components. Simultaneously, manufacturers are adopting natural fiber composites in vehicles to reduce carbon footprints and decrease reliance on petroleum-based materials. This presents a challenge at vehicle end-of-life however, as natural fiber-reinforced polymers are substantially more difficult to recycle than their unreinforced counterparts. This study investigated the development of a mechanical recycling process for paper fiber-reinforced polypropylene composites, focusing on the impact of injection molding parameters—specifically, injection temperature and rate—on the thermal, mechanical, and water uptake properties of the composites. The results showed that processing temperature had a greater influence on composite performance than injection rate, with some limited interaction effects between the two. Higher processing intensity damaged the paper fibers, increasing the number of nucleation sites and resulting in greater polypropylene crystallinity. These structural changes reduced tensile properties at higher intensities, while flexural properties improved. Objective function analysis was applied to identify optimal processing conditions, balancing these competing trends. Overall, the findings demonstrate that paper fiber-reinforced polypropylene composites can be recycled into automotive relevant injection molding compounds using conventional plastic manufacturing techniques, though careful tuning of processing parameters is essential to achieve optimal performance.

One of the most important aspects in the fabrication of car seats is the quality of its welded joints. In this proposal, a design of experiments (DoE) approach is used to improve the actual process capability (Cpk) of weld penetration depth in automotive seat adjusters using a laser beam welding (LBW) machine TRUMPF TruDiode 3006. Welding speed effects, laser power, and focal position in the Z axis were considered to determine the optimal welding penetration depth conditions, which is a minimum of 1.20 mm in cold rolled steel metal sheets ZE 790 with a thickness of 1.60 mm. The initial process capability evaluation indicated a Cpk value of 0.50, considering the initial process parameters. The proposed design was modeled using the response surface methodology, stepwise reduction technique, F-test, and before and after process capability evaluation for validation purposes. After applying the proposed methodology, a Cpk of 1.81 was obtained, resulting in a significant improvement of the process, reducing defective parts from 6.51% to 0.00%.

Controlling an object that is extremely prone to oscillations is a complex and highly relevant task. The tendency to oscillate arises due to the presence of an oscillatory element and a delay element, and control is often complicated by the presence of an integrator in the object. For such objects, a very effective method of numerical optimization of the controller is not effective enough without choosing the most efficient structure, more efficient than the PID controller and even than the PIDD controller. The method of using the Smith predictor, which is switched on parallel to the plant, allows solving a similar problem, but the resulting quality of control remains not good enough, since a large overshoot remains in the system. The article recommends, after using the Smith predictor, to additionally use an external control loop, the sequential controller of which should also be designed using the numerical optimization method. But the Smith predictor is not the best solution either. The article recommends the use of pseudo-local feedback. Such a connection provides more opportunities, since its structure and parameters can be optimized, while the Smith predictor in its parameters is completely determined by the object model and its modification is not allowed. The article shows that even the best sequential controller in the case of using the Smith predictor on a test example still cannot provide the required quality of control; in such a system, significant overshoot remains, more than 10%. The proposed method allows reducing overshoot to less than 0.5%. It is shown that the resulting system is robust, since the quality of control remains within specified limits even when the gain changes by 30% in both directions.

Complexity is a crucial metric for evaluating urban intersection scenarios. However, existing complexity evaluations are often derived indirectly from the driving risk of autonomous vehicles, leading to subjective and incomplete evaluations. Therefore, this study undertakes a comprehensive evaluation of intersection scenarios from a systems perspective by quantifying the number of vehicles and the characteristics of vehicle interactions within the intersection.Specifically, we propose an objective framework for assessing complexity. In this framework, the number of vehicles serves as the foundation for assessment, while three interaction characteristics—interaction density, interaction disorder, and interaction risk—are modeled as scaling factors of complexity. In particular, by combining logistic and hyperbolic tangent functions, we accurately capture the nonlinear effects of vehicle numbers and interaction characteristics on complexity.The experimental results demonstrate that the evaluation outcomes of the proposed method are highly correlated with the risk and efficiency performance of autonomous vehicles at intersections, thereby validating the method. Additionally, this method is utilized to guide the generation of highly complex urban intersection scenarios, achieving double the generation efficiency compared to the random sampling method.

In a V2V communication environment, the control of electric vehicle platoons faces issues such as random communication delays, packet loss, and external disturbances, which affect sustainable transportation systems. In order to solve these problems and promote the development of sustainable transportation, a longitudinal control algorithm for the platoon based on robust Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) is designed. First, a longitudinal kinematic model of the vehicle platoon is constructed, and discrete state-space equations are established. The robust UKF algorithm is derived by enhancing the UKF algorithm with Huber-M estimation. This enhanced algorithm is then used to estimate the state information of the leading vehicle. Based on the vehicle state information obtained from the robust UKF estimation, feedback correction and compensation are added to the MPC algorithm to design the robust UKF-MPC longitudinal controller. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through CarSim/Simulink joint simulation. The simulation results show that in the presence of communication delay and data loss, the robust UKF-MPC controller outperforms the MPC and UKF-MPC controllers in terms of MSE and IAE metrics for vehicle spacing error and acceleration tracking error, and exhibits stronger robustness and stability.

As a critical component of electric vehicles, the powertrain has a significant impact on the overall performance of the vehicle. In addressing the challenge of lengthy testing cycles, this study develops a para model of the powertrain utilizing digital twin (DT) technology, thereby establishing a framework for simulation testing of multi-controller intermodulation. The research conducts functional definition coverage testing through the design of specific functional requirement use cases, and it validates the failure mechanism via fault injection use cases. The results indicate that the DT testing platform can effectively simulate the operational interactions among various controllers within the powertrain system. In comparison to traditional field testing, the digital twin-based testing methodology offers enhanced operational efficiency and allows for the examination of testing conditions that are impractical to implement in real vehicles, particularly in the context of fault injection testing, thus facilitating the early detection of potential safety risks within the system. The advancement of this technical solution holds significant practical implications for the future mass production and development of electric vehicles.

The incidence of right-turning pedestrian accidents is increasing in South Korea. Most of the accidents occurred when the larger vehicle was turning right, and the main cause of the accidents was found to be the driver's limited field of vision. After these accidents, the government has implemented a series of institutional measures with the objective of preventing such accidents. However, despite the institutional arrangements in place, pedestrian accidents continue to occur. We focused on the many limitations that autonomous vehicles, like humans, can face in such situations. To address this issue, we propose a right-turn pedestrian collision avoidance system by installing a LiDAR sensor in the center of the intersection to facilitate pedestrian detection. Furthermore, the urban road environment is considered, as this provides the optimal conditions for the model to perform at its best. During this research, we collected data on right-turn accidents using the CARLA simulator and ROS interface and demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach in preventing such incidents. Our results suggest that the implementation of this method can effectively reduce the incidence of right-turn accidents in autonomous vehicles.

This paper proposes a novel hybrid control strategy for quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) based on bio-inspired neural dynamics. This strategy addresses the velocity jump issue prevalent in traditional backstepping control and the control signal chattering problem common in traditional sliding mode control. The control system comprises an outer-loop bio-inspired backstepping controller and an inner-loop bio-inspired sliding mode controller, ensuring smooth trajectory tracking even in the presence of external disturbances. The stability of the quadrotor UAV control system is rigorously analyzed using Lyapunov stability theory. Extensive comparative simulation experiments are conducted to assess the robustness and effectiveness of the control system. Results demonstrate superior trajectory tracking performance of the proposed control system compared to other control systems for quadrotor UAVs.

Recent research has drawn attention to the ambiguity surrounding the definition and learnability of Out Of Distribution (OOD) recognition. The term "Out of Model Scope" (OMS) detection provides a clearer perspective, although the original problem remains unsolved. The ability to detect OMS inputs is particularly beneficial in safety-critical applications such as autonomous driving or medicine. By detecting OMS situations, we not only enhance the system's robustness but also prevent it from operating in unknown and unsafe scenarios. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for OMS detection that combines three sources of information: 1) the original input, 2) the latent feature space extracted by an encoder, and 3) the synthetic data generated from the encoder's latent feature space. We demonstrate the effectiveness of combining original images and synthetically generated images against adversary attacks in the computer vision domain. We achieve results comparable to other state-of-the-art methods and demonstrate that any Encoder can be integrated into our pipeline in a plug-and-train fashion. Our experiments further evaluate which combination of the Encoder's features works best in order to discover OMS samples and highlight the importance of a compact feature space for the training of the Generator.

The SOC (State of Charge) in Lithium-ion battery packs refers to determining a battery's current energy level or capacity at a given time. SOC is important for many battery-operated systems since it shows how much energy is available. In the earlier stage SOC is calculated by different techniques such as Coulomb counting, open-circuit voltage, Kalman filters, Data-Driven Approaches, and Real-Times Updates so these all methods are used to calculate the SOC Estimation in battery packs. In recent years, these old methods have had some errors and accuracy malfunctions in SOC estimation in battery packs. The SOC estimation errors occur on Two-Wheeler, Three-Wheeler, and four-wheeler of Electric Vehicles (EV). To Overcome this problem in current years the AI&ML Algorithms Methods are applied everywhere related to Accuracy, Solutions & All. To increase the accuracy of SOC Estimations we are going to use Machine Learning Algorithms to improve the SOC in Machine Learning there are various methods such as supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement. Of these three methods, one of the best methods is to select the Algorithms is apply to the Battery packs to get accurate SOC Estimations. In Machine Learning, we select the Supervised Learning Algorithms. Currently, the project will focus on the use of a Supervised Machine Learning Algorithm which includes an Extra Trees Regressor, Bagging Regressor, K-Neighbors Regressor, Decision Tree Regressor, and Random Forest Regressor for SOC Estimation. In this, we will develop algorithms applied to Lithium-ion Battery Packs to accurately the SOC estimates. In conclusion, the algorithms we will develop by using Machine Learning are compared with the algorithms and analytical Models.

With the increasing use of automatic transmissions in passenger vehicles, there is a growing need for improved gear shifting control strategies that aim to enhance performance and fuel efficiency. This paper introduces a knowledge-based fuzzy control system designed specifically for automatic transmissions in light vehicles. The proposed system utilizes a fuzzy inference system as the controller, enabling the emulation of the driver’s perceptions during the gear shifting process. Consequently, the input signal consists of variables that are either sensitive to or observable by the driver, while the output represents the selected gear. The paper evaluates three distinct control strategies, each based on different inputs. These inputs include the longitudinal velocity of the vehicle, the angular velocity of the engine, or a combination of both, along with the time-derivative of the throttle valve opening. Through the evaluation, it is observed that the combination of inputs yields significantly improved performance. Therefore, the methodology presented in this paper demonstrates that the combined input approach is more effective for gear shifting control.

Despite progress in electric propulsion and energy storage technologies, challenges such as low energy density and integration issues persist. This paper provides a comprehensive thematic and bibliometric analysis to map the research landscape in aircraft electrification, identifying key research themes, influential contributors, and emerging trends. The study applies natural language processing to unstructured bibliographic data and cross-sectional statistical methods to analyze publications, citations, and keyword distributions across various categories related to aircraft electrification. The study addresses the challenge of efficiently peeling pineapples, which have a distinct elliptical form, thick skin, and small eyes that are difficult to detect with conventional automated methods. This results in significant flesh waste. To improve the process, the researchers developed an integrated system combining an enhanced BlendMask method, termed SAAF-BlendMask, and a PCP method. SAAF-BlendMask improves the detection of small pineapple eyes, while PCP ensures accurate posture adjustment for precise path planning. The system uses 3D vision and deep learning technologies, achieving an average precision (AP) of 73.04% and a small object precision (APs) of 62.54% in eye detection, with a path planning success rate reaching 99%. The fully automated electromechanical system was tested on 110 real pineapples, demonstrating a reduction in flesh waste by 11.7% compared to traditional methods. This study highlights the potential of advanced machine vision and robotics in enhancing the efficiency and precision of food processing.

The semi-active cab suspension system for trucks is gaining increasing importance due to its economic advantages, low energy consumption, and significant enhancement of ride comfort. This paper investigates the effects of three control methods on improving ride comfort of semi-active cab suspension systems under random and bump road conditions: Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control, fuzzy PID control, and Model Predictive Control (MPC). Initially, an accurate multi-degree-of-freedom truck cab suspension model was developed and validated through actual road tests. Based on this model, three control strategies were designed and implemented. Finally, the effectiveness of each control strategy was evaluated under various road conditions, including random and bump road scenarios. The results demonstrate that these control strategies can effectively reduce vibrations and impacts, significantly enhancing ride comfort, which is crucial for reducing driver fatigue and improving driving safety.

Deployment of Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous vehicles (AVs) in urban environments is significantly constrained by adverse weather conditions, limiting their operation to clear weather due to safety concerns. Ensuring that AVs remain within their designated Operational Design Domain (ODD) is a formidable challenge, making boundary monitoring strategies essential for safe navigation. This study explores the critical role of an ODD monitoring system (OMS) in addressing these challenges. It reviews various methodologies for designing an OMS and presents a comprehensive visualization framework incorporating trigger points for ODD exits. These trigger points serve as essential references for effective OMS design. The study also delves into a specific use case concerning ODD exits: the reduction in road friction due to adverse weather conditions. It emphasizes the importance of contactless computer vision-based methods for road condition estimation (RCE), particularly using vision sensors such as cameras. The study details a timeline of methods involving classical machine learning and deep learning feature extraction techniques, identifying contemporary challenges such as class imbalance, lack of comprehensive datasets, annotation methods, and the scarcity of generalization techniques. Furthermore, it provides a factual comparison of two state-of-the-art RCE datasets. In essence, the study aims to address and explore ODD exits due to weather-induced road conditions, decoding the practical solutions and directions for future research in the realm of AVs.

This study establishes life cycle assessment model to quantitively evaluate and predict material resource consumption, fossil energy consumption and environmental emissions of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) by employing the GaBi software. the envi-ronmental impact of different vehicle working conditions, power battery degradation scenarios and mileage scenarios on the operation and use stage of PHEV, BEV and HEV is distinguished. The findings indicate that under urban, highway, and aggressive driving conditions, PHEVs' life cycle material resource and fossil fuel consumption exceed that of BEVs but are less than HEVs. Battery degradation leads to increased material resource consumption, energy use, and environmental emissions for both PHEVs and BEVs, en-vironmental emission of BEVs are more sensitive than those of PHEVs to the impact of power battery degradation. Among different-mileage scenarios, PHEVs demonstrate the least sensitivity to increased mileage regarding life cycle material resource consumption, with the smallest increase. Future projections for 2025 and 2035 suggest life cycle GWP of HEV, PHEV and BEV in 2035 is 1.21×104, 1.12×104 and 1.01×104 kg CO2-eq respectively, which is decreased by 48.7%, 30.9% and 36.1% compared with those in 2025. The out-comes of this study are intended to bolster data support for the manufacturing and de-velopment of PHEV, BEV and HEV under different scenarios and offer insights into the growth and technological progression of the automotive sector.

This study investigates the effect of oil viscosity on pollutant emissions and fuel consumption of an internal combustion engine (ICE) in high-altitude using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). A Chevrolet Corsa Evolution 1.5 SOHC gasoline engine was used in Cuenca, Ecuador (2560 meters above sea level), testing three lubricating oils with kinematic viscosities of 9.66, 14.08, and 18.5 cSt under various engine speeds and loads. Key findings include: hydrocarbon (HC) emissions were minimized to 7.25 ppm with low viscosity and load; carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions peaked at 15.2% vol with high viscosity and load; carbon monoxide (CO) ranged from 0.04% to 3.74% depending on viscosity and load; nitrogen oxides (NOx) were significantly influenced by viscosity, RPM, and load, indicating a need for model refinement; and fuel consumption was significantly affected by load and viscosity. RSM-based optimization identified optimal operational conditions with a viscosity of 13 sCt, 1473 rpm, and a load of 78%, resulting in 52.35 ppm of HC, 13.97% vol of CO2, 1.2% vol of CO, 0 ppm of NOx, and a fuel consumption of 6.66 l/h. These conditions demonstrate the ability to adjust operational variables to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize emissions. This study underscores the critical role of optimizing lubricant viscosity and operational conditions to mitigate environmental impact and enhance engine performance in high-altitude environments.

The recent demand for reducing pollutant and CO2 emissions from internal combustion engines has created an urgent need for the development of ultra-lean burn engines that ensure combus-tion stability and reducing knocking tendency. One of the most promising methods is the Pre-chamber Spark Ignition (PCSI) system, where a jet of high-energy reactive gases, produced by pilot combustion in a pre-chamber, ignites the main combustion event in the cylinder. Given the intricate phenomena inherent to PCSI systems, conducting 3D CFD studies is imperative for a comprehensive analysis and optimal design. Furthermore, the detailed CFD model, combined with the calibrated 0-D/1-D model, is anticipated to yield a significant amount of new data that would be difficult to obtain through experimental approaches, making it essential for advancing our understanding and optimization of these systems. However, recently published papers re-port that some state-of-the-art models developed for conventional SI operation may not be pre-dictive under the challenging conditions of TJI systems, particularly under lean conditions. This review elucidates the reasons behind the widespread adoption of CFD in the optimal design of PCSI engines. It presents significant examples and delves into the potential and challenges of employing CFD not just as a predictive tool but also as a design instrument for enhancing PCSI engine performance.

The safety of lithium-ion batteries is critical to the safety of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The purpose of this work is to develop a method to predict battery thermal runaway in full electric vehicle crash simulation. The thermal-electrical-mechanical coupled finite element analysis is used to model an individual lithium-ion battery cell, a battery module, a battery pack, and a battery electric vehicle with 24 battery modules in a live circuit connection. The lithium-ion battery is modeled using a representative approach, with each battery internal component individually modeled to represent its geometric shape and realistic thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. A resistance heating solver and Randles circuit model built with generalized voltage source are used to simulate the battery electrical behavior. The thermal simulation of the battery accounts for the heat capacity and thermal conductivity of various cell component materials, as well as heat conduction, radiation, and convection at their interfaces. The mechanical property of battery cell and battery module models is validated using spherical punch tests. The electrical property of the battery cell and battery module models is verified against CircuitLab simulation in an external short circuit test. The simulation result of battery module’s internal resistance agrees with the experimental data and the literature value. The multi-physics coupling phenomenon is demonstrated with a cylindrical compression simulation on the battery module. The multi-physics BEV model with 24 live battery modules is used to simulate the external short-circuit test and the side pole impact test. The simulations run time is less than 24 hours. The results demonstrated the feasibility of using representative battery model and multi-physics analysis to predict battery thermal runaway in full electric vehicle crash analysis.

The study examines the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) management of electric vehicle (EV) powertrains, considering the challenges of the automotive industry's transition to electric drivetrains. The growing popularity of EVs brings new NVH challenges, as the lack of internal combustion engine (ICE) noise makes drivetrain noise more prominent. Key to managing NVH in EV powertrains is understanding the noise from electric motors, inverters, and gear systems. Noise from electric motors, mainly resulting from electromagnetic forces, and high-frequency noise generated by inverters significantly impact overall NVH performance. The article details sources of mechanical noise and vibration, including gear defects in gear systems and shaft imbalances. Methods presented in the publication include simulation and modeling techniques that help identify and solve NVH difficulties. Tools like multi-body dynamics (MBD), finite element method (FEM), and multi-domain simulation are crucial for understanding the dynamic behavior of complex systems. With the support of simulations, engineers can predict noise and vibration challenges and develop effective solutions during the design phase. The study emphasizes the importance of a system-level approach in NVH management, where the entire drivetrain is modeled and analyzed together, not just individual components.

Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is a fast-developing battery technology, and the key to its reliability and lifespan improvement lies in the accurate assessment of durability. However, the degradation mechanism of PEMFC is hard to determine and its internal parameters are highly coupled. Thus, the development of the more accurate life prediction model that meets the actual scenarios is urgent to investigate. To solve this problem, a multi-feature fusion life prediction method based on Temporal Convolutional Network-Gated Recurrent Unit (TCN-GRU) is proposed. A TCN algorithm is used as the prediction base model, and two GRU modules are included to the model to strengthen the model expression ability and improve its predictive accuracy. Two widely recognized datasets and two operating conditions are utilized for model training and prediction, respectively. Comparisons are made with single-feature parameter models in terms of Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Determination Coefficient (R2). The results show that the prediction accuracy of the TCN-GRU multi-feature fusion model is higher than that of the single-feature models in terms of stability and anti-interference under both operating conditions. Furthermore, with the increase of input feature parameters, the TCN-GRU model is closer to the real value, which proves once again that the proposed model can meet the accuracy requirements of the life prediction of PEMFC.

The number of visible navigation satellites in a multi-constellation system increases exponentially compared to a single constellation, significantly increasing the complexity of the system state equations in the data fusion algorithm of a tightly coupled navigation system. This results in an exponential increase in the computation volume for navigation and positioning, seriously affecting real-time performance. To address this, a low-cost, low-computation satellite screening algorithm is proposed. It adaptively changes the number of constellation satellites by setting different screening thresholds and adjusting the number of remaining satellites. The algorithm then sorts and differentiates the azimuth and elevation angles of the screened satellites to form a selection strategy that divides the space region multiple times, enabling fast satellite selection. This approach greatly reduces the calculation amount while ensuring positioning accuracy. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm maintains positioning differences within 5 meters compared to traditional satellite selection algorithms, and the time consumed for selecting a single epoch is greatly reduced. This indicates that the algorithm is suitable for low-cost multi-constellation satellite positioning systems.

The link between the world of communication and the world of racing is provided by telemetry systems in electric racing cars. These systems send real-time data about the vehicle’s behavior and systems to enable informed decisions during the race. The aim of this research was to integrate telemetry into the battery bank of a racing electric vehicle to find the optimal values of current and voltage that optimize the charging process, thus improving the vehicle’s performance in competition using Response Surface Analysis. Particularly, the telemetry system consisted of an Arduino Mega, a digital wattmeter, and temperature sensors, all installed in the vehicle. Once the telemetry data was obtained, a response surface design was adapted with current, voltage, and temperature as factors, varying from low to high values, with the objective function being to minimize the battery’s charging time. Applying the response surface methodology and the steepest descent algorithm, it was found that all factors significantly affect the charging time, with the minimum charge time being 6961 seconds, obtained with a current of 2.4 amps and voltages of 50.5 volts and 43.6 volts.

The increasing complexity of vehicular traffic and the prevalence of accidents, particularly rear-end collisions, necessitate enhancements in automotive safety technologies. Adilights, an innovative automotive lighting system, addresses this need by introducing a dynamic visual communication method between vehicles. This system features a novel design that employs variable-intensity brake lights configured in an upside-down "U" shape to indicate braking severity. The intensity and pattern of the lights change in response to the pressure applied to the brake pedal, providing clear and immediate feedback to following drivers. This design not only improves the perceptibility of braking signals, particularly in dense traffic and poor visibility conditions but also aims to reduce the frequency of rear-end collisions significantly. The paper details the development and testing of Adilights, discusses its integration with current vehicular systems, and evaluates its effectiveness through simulated scenarios. The introduction of Adilights marks a step forward in the use of adaptive lighting systems for enhanced vehicular communication and road safety.\cite{Lee2007RearEnd}

This study introduces an integrated method for managing process risks in a Business Process Reengineering (BPR) project, using Robust Data Envelopment Analysis (RDEA) and machine learning (ML). The goal is to prioritize risks based on three standard factors of PFMEA: Severity, Occurrence, and Detection (S-O-D), and incorporating two additional factors (Breakdown Cost and Breakdown Duration) seen as undesirable outputs. The model also accounts for the effect of uncertainty on expert-estimated values by applying disturbance percentages in the linear PFMEA-RDEA model. A machine learning model is proposed to predict new values if partial or total modifications have been made to the processes. The approach was implemented in an au-tomotive sector company, and the results showed the impact of uncertainty on values by com-paring different approaches such as RPN, PFMEA-DEA, and PFMEA-RDEA. A new reduced risk categorization was achieved, who allowed for decision-makers to focus on necessary actions for reengineering.

Brake wear particles, as the major component of non-exhaust particulate matter, are known to have different emissions, depending on the type of brake assembly and the specifications of the vehicle. In this study, brake wear and wear particle mass emissions were measured under realistic vehicle driving and full friction braking conditions using current commercial genuine brake assemblies. Although there were no significant differences in either PM₁₀ or PM_2.5 emissions between the different cooling air flow rates, brake wear decreased and ultrafine particle (PM_0.12) emissions increased with increasing cooling air flow rate. Particle mass measurements were collected on filter media, allowing chemical composition analysis to identify the source of brake wear particle mass emissions. The iron concentration in the brake wear particles indicated that the main contribution was derived from disc wear. Using a systematic approach that measured brake wear and wear particle emissions, this study was able to characterize correlations with elemental compositions in brake friction materials, adding to our understanding of the mechanical phenomena of brake wear and wear particle emissions.

In this paper, we examined the temperature variations of key constituents during the operational cycle of a custom-built electric vehicle. The vehicle was made employing a motor of 10kW, a KLS7275D controller, and a lithium-ion battery. Temperature sensors for monitoring was affixed to the motor, controller, and battery, facilitating a comprehensive analysis of thermal behaviors. A controlled 20 minute driving tests encompassing both high and low speeds were executed to scrutinize temperature variations. Our findings reveal that the controller exhibited the most substantial temperature fluctuation compared to the battery and motor. Results shows the importance of thermal management strategies for components to ensure optimal driving performance and component reliability in electric vehicles.

Automobile industry is recognized as one of the most influential sectors shaping the global economies, societies, and individual lifestyles. Therefore, fierce competitions among different companies are continuously undergoing, and innovations deserve special attention to improve the competitiveness. In the past several years, additive manufacturing (AM) is emerging as an innovative technology in the applications of automobile industry with significant advantages over traditional techniques. As a result, increasing attention has been attracted to combining AM technology with the development of automobile industry. Currently, many automobile players are optimizing their industrial layout by incorporating with innovative AM techniques, and meanwhile, many research progresses have been achieved to meet the market demand. This article aims at presenting a timely review to conclude the recent advances in the application of AM techniques in automobile industry, focusing on the available AM techniques, printable materials, and the industry applications. The future research opportunities and challenges are also outlooked. Hopefully, this work can be useful to the related researchers, as well as the game players in the industry of this field.

Few prior works study self-driving cars by deep learning with IoT collaboration. SDC-Net, which is an end-to-end multitask self-driving car camera cocoon IoT-based system, is one of the research that tackles this direction. However, by design SDC-Net is not able to identify the accident locations, it only classifies if it is a crash scene or not. In this work, we introduce an enhanced design for the SDC-Net system by 1) replacing the classification network with a detection one, 2) adapting our benchmark dataset labels built on the CARLA simulator to include the vehicles bounding boxes while keeping the same training, validation, and testing samples, 3) modifying the shared information via IoT to include the accident location. We keep the same path planning and automatic emergency braking network, the digital automation platform, and the input representations to formulate the comparative study. SDC-Net++ system is proposed to 1) output the relevant control actions, especially in case of accidents: accelerate, decelerate, maneuver, and brake, and 2) share the most critical information to the connected vehicles via IoT, especially the accident locations. A comparative study is also conducted between SDC-Net and SDC-Net++ with the same input representations: front camera only, panorama and bird-eye views, and with single-task networks: crash avoidance only, and multitask networks. Multitask network with a BEV input representation outperforms the nearest representation in precision, recall, f1-score, and accuracy by more than 15.134%, 12.046%, 13.593%, and 5%, respectively. SDC-Net++ multitask network with BEV outperforms SDC-Net multitask with BEV in precision, recall, f1-score, accuracy, and average MSE by more than 2.201%, 2.8%, 2.505%, 2%, and 18.677% respectively.

The authors focus on the process of defining requirements for the implementation of collaborative robots, providing strategies based on mathematical management models. This approach translates into significant benefits for companies, such as cost reduction, quality improvement, and increased operational efficiency. Additionally, the paper proposes an innovative mathematical model for assessing total costs, budgeting, profitability, and electric power consumption associated with the operation of collaborative robots. This model allows for a comparison between the costs involved in using human labour and those associated with collaborative robots, providing critical information for technological investment decisions. The efficiency of this mathematical model is demonstrated through a practical application, where collaborative robots were integrated into a production environment, and costs and efficiency were evaluated compared to the use of human labour. This scientific paper provides a systematic and efficient approach to implementing collaborative robots in industrial processes, benefiting from strategies based on mathematical management models and an original mathematical model for evaluating performance and associated costs.

The work aims to improve the battery performance in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) by reducing the vehicle speed. We develop a specific protocol for managing battery use and optimizing the energy consumption rate to achieve this goal. The protocol automatically controls the driving operation, avoiding incompatible driving patterns with energy-saving mode and performance improvement. The protocol is submitted to a simulation process to predict the energy rate lowering and battery performance enhancement. The proposed protocol applies to any hybrid electric vehicle type and route conditions since it uses vehicle mass, drag and rolling coefficients, and road slope as variable parameters to determine the minimum energy consumption rate. We run experimental tests to validate the simulation data and the proposed protocol. Furthermore, the protocol applies to variable starting vehicle speeds, from 10 to 50 km/h, corresponding to the current driving patterns, sport, normal, and eco, set up by car manufacturers. A reduction of 10% in vehicle speed in urban and peripheral routes achieves a minimum energy rate, enhancing battery management. Current vehicle speed shows a deviation from optimum management of 18% while applying the vehicle speed reduction limits the deviation to 0.2%. Experimental results show a good agreement with simulation data with 94% accuracy. We tested the protocol for urban and peripheral routes with maximum vehicle speed limits of 60 and 90 km/h.

Automated charging technologies are becoming increasingly important in the electrification of heavy road freight transport, especially in combination with autonomous driving. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of automated charging technologies for electric heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). It encompasses the entire spectrum of feasible technologies, including static and dynamic approaches, with each charging technology evaluated for its advantages, potentials, challenges, and technology readiness level (TRL). Static conductive charging methods such as charging robots, underbody-couplers or pantographs show good potential, with pantographs being the most mature option. These technologies are progressing towards higher TRLs, with a focus on standardization and adaptability. While static wireless charging is operational for some prototype solutions, it encounters challenges related to implementation and efficiency. Dynamic conductive charging through an overhead contact line or contact rails holds promise for high-traffic HDV routes with the overhead contact line being the most developed option. Dynamic wireless charging, although facing efficiency challenges, offers potential for seamless integration into roads and minimal wear and tear. Battery swapping is emerging as a practical solution to reduce downtime for charging, with varying levels of readiness across different implementations. To facilitate large-scale deployment further standardization efforts are required. The study emphasizes the necessity for continued research and development to enhance efficiency, decrease costs, and ensure seamless integration into existing infrastructures. Technologies that achieve this best will have the highest potential to significantly contribute to the creation of an efficiently automated and environmentally friendly transport sector.

The development of accurate dynamic battery pack models for electric vehicles (EVs) is critical for the ongoing electrification of the global automotive vehicle fleet, since these serve as a key element in the energy performance of an EV powertrain system. The Equivalent Circuit Model (ECM) technique at the cell level is commonly employed for this purpose, combining accuracy and efficiency in the representation of battery operation within the broader powertrain system. In this study, a second-order ECM model of a battery cell is being developed using Modelica, an equation-based modeling language. Parameter lookup tables at multiple levels of state of charge (SoC), extracted from Li-ion battery cells with 4 different commonly used cathode materials, have been utilized. This approach allows for a representation of the battery systems that are used in a wide range of commercial EV applications. To verify the model, an integrated EV model is developed and simulation results of the FTP75 driving cycle have been compared against an equivalent application in MATLAB Simulink. The findings demonstrate a close match between the results obtained from both software across different system points. Specifically, the maximum deviation of SoC is limited to 0.08% and the maximum value of relative voltage deviation is 1.4%. The verified model enables the exploration of multiple possible architecture configurations of EV powertrains with Modelica.

Despite the partial disclosure of driving scenario knowledge graphs, they still fail to meet the comprehensive needs of intelligent connected vehicles for driving knowledge. Current issues include the high complexity of pattern layer construction, insufficient accuracy of information extraction and fusion, and limited performance of knowledge reasoning models. To address these challenges, a hybrid knowledge graph method was adopted in the construction of the Driving Scenario Knowledge Graph (DSKG). Firstly, core concepts in the field were systematically sorted and classified, laying the foundation for the construction of a multi-level classified knowledge graph top-level ontology. Subsequently, by deeply exploring and analyzing the Traffic Genome data, 34 entities and 51 relations were extracted and integrated with the ontology layer, achieving the expansion and updating of the knowledge graph. Then, in terms of knowledge reasoning models, an analysis of the training results of the TransE, Complex, Distmult, and Rotate models in the entity linking prediction task of DSKG revealed that the Distmult model performed the best in metrics such as hit rate, making it more suitable for inference in DSKG. Finally, a standardized and widely applicable Driving Scenario Knowledge Graph was proposed. The DSKG and related materials have been publicly released for use by industry and academia.

We cover the latest advancements in millimeter-wave and beam-forming technologies, emphasizing their role in enhancing network security and efficiency in automotive vehicles through dual radar communication. Our discussion spans the benefits, applications, challenges, and solutions of these technologies individually from millimeter-wave to beam-forming technology and joint radar communications, alongside a look at their theoretical and practical implementations. We emphasize the integration of beam-forming technology in joint radar communications for future automotive vehicles and its impact on automotive systems, smart cities, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Looking ahead, we discuss the potential of these technologies to transform future tech landscapes, while also addressing the security implications of merging communication and radar capabilities. This paper aims to provide a clear view of the advancements and prospects of millimeter-wave, beam-forming, and dual radar communication technologies.

To fulfil a need of limitation automotive emissions the reduction of vehicle weight is widely recommended and achieved in many ways, both by the construction of individual elements of the vehicle, and by the selection of light materials including Al alloys. Connecting these elements with each other and with elements made of iron alloys can be realized, inter alia, by welding or stir welding. However, the quality of the welds obtained varies widely and depends on many design, operational and environmental factors. The present study focused on a review of various welding technics used to joint both similar and dissimilar Al alloys utilized in automotive industry, the effect of various process parameters on welds quality, and phenomena appeared in such welds..

This study explores the significance of active suspension systems for vehicles with lower chassis compared to conventional ones, aiming at the development of future automobiles. Conventional linear MR (Magneto-Rheological) dampers were found inadequate in ensuring sufficient vibration control because the vehicle's chassis becomes lowered in the unmanned vehicles or purposed based vehicles. As an alternative, a rotary type of MR damper is proposed in this work. The proposed damper is designed based on pre-specified design parameters through mathematical modeling and magnetic field analyses. Subsequently, a prototype of the rotary MR damper identical to the design is fabricated, and effectiveness is shown through experimental investigations. In configuring the experiments, a proportional-integral (PI) controller is employed for current control to reduce the response time of the damper. The results presented in this work provides useful guidelines to develop a new type of MR damper applicable to various types of future vehicles’ suspension systems with low distance from the tire to the body floor.

The reconstruction of traffic accidents has grown as an interdisciplinary field since the first accident occurred. Various methods have been developed over time, starting with primary data collected at the scene of the accident. In this work, I proposed a method by which the value of the force in the safety belt buckle can be determined when it is equipped with a pretensioning system with pyrotechnic trigger in the tube, PBP or PLP type. The anti-return system of the pretensioner mechanism, which prevents the passenger's body from moving forward, contains a set of balls that block the movement of the piston in the pretensioner tube after its activation. When limiting the movement, the force the human body exerts on the safety belt webbing is transformed into the deformation of the pretensioner tube by the balls of the anti-return system. Depending on the magnitude of the force, the marks left by the balls differ. I propose a relationship of dependence between the acting force and the deformation of the tube. An experimental test bench was created to perform shock traction tests on the pre-tensioning system, under similar conditions to those of the human body acting on the belt in case of a frontal collision. Following the tests, the force value of the seat belt buckle cable and the diameter of the spherical indentations that the balls left in the pretensioner tube were measured. A mathematical model was proposed to determine the normal force with which a ball from the anti-return system deforms the tube. The normal force was also determined by two other methods specific to contact mechanics and used in the specialized literature. By comparing the normal forces obtained by the three methods, a good correlation between the proposed mathematical model and the Komvopoulos-Ye method resulted, the "Hardness" method not being suitable for this study. The determined polynomial regression curve allows finding out the force in the cable of the closer depending on the size of the deformations produced by the balls in the tube. The forces in the belt webbing can be thus determined and biomechanics specialists can evaluate the injuries to the chest and abdomen of the occupants of a vehicle.

Currently, conventional spark-ignition engines face challenges in meeting the ever-growing demands of customers and increasingly stringent regulations regarding pollutant emissions. A combination of innovative strategies and carbon-neutral fuels is deemed necessary in order to further reduce fuel consumption and minimize engine emissions. The present work aims to assess the performance of combustion strategies using low-carbon content fuel, such as methanol M100, ignited by a plasma-assisted igniter (PAI) under ultra-lean conditions. The experimental campaign is conducted on a single-cylinder research engine at different engine speeds and low loads, moving up to the engine lean stable limits. To determine the benefits brought by the proposed strategy, referred to as M100-PAI, the obtained outcomes are compared with the ones obtained using market gasoline E5 ignited by the PAI system and conventional spark. The synergy between M100 (methanol) and Plasma Assisted Ignition (PAI) in internal combustion engines yielded notable benefits. This combination significantly improved combustion stability if compared to the other combinations tested, by extending the lean stable limit to λ=2.0, reducing cycle-to-cycle variability, and facilitating faster flame front acceleration, resulting in enhanced homogeneity. These enhancements, obtained with the combination M100-PAI, contributed to higher fuel efficiency showing a 10% efficiency gain over the combination E5-gasoline spark ignition.

Hydrogen fuel is gaining particular attention in internal combustion engines. In addition to zero-carbon emissions, major advantages relate to its combustion characteristics, which allow significant increase in thermal efficiency under ultra-lean operation and with very low NOx levels. The ignition system is one of the main technology enablers, as it determines the capability to control ultra-lean operations, avoid backfire phenomena, or reduce the risks of abnormal combustions. The latter results from the hydrogen low ignition energy and it is associated with factors like high-temperature residuals, hot spots, and irregular spark plug discharge. ACIS gen 2-Barrier Discharge Igniter excels in accelerating the initial flame growth speed by the generation of non-equilibrium low-temperature plasma, strong ignition promoter for the combined action of kinetic and thermal effects. Moreover, its volumetric discharge facilitates combustion initiation on a wide region, in contrast to the localized ignition of traditional spark systems. In this work we present for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, experimental results showing the performance of a hydrogen engine with a low-temperature plasma discharge. Tests were conducted on a single-cylinder research engine, achieving ultra-lean conditions with cycle-to-cycle variability results below 2.5%. The analysis indicates that the H2 - BDI combined solution is capable of accelerating the evolution of the flame front compared to traditional spark plugs, leading to a significant reduction in the cycle-to-cycle variability. A meticulous adjustment of the BDI control parameters further enhances igniter performance and contributes to a deeper understanding of the innovative approach proposed in this study.

EV transmissions operate at high speeds, upto 30,000 rpm. High speed operation puts higher demands on bearings, seals, and gears. Bearings in EV transmissions are prone to electrically induced bearing damage and may exhibit signs of pitting and fluting. Surface-initiated rolling contact fatigue is another common problem gaining increased attention lately. Most EV transmissions require a coupling between an oil-lubricated gearbox to an electrical motor that runs with minimal lubrication at very high rpm. High mechanical and thermal stresses the seals are exposed to under starved lubrication conditions have a detrimental impact on their service life. Hence, proper lubrication is critical. In general, EV transmission fluids call for a somewhat different spectrum of properties compared to conventional ATF. Gear tribology simulations open new ways to the design and optimization of lubrication for EV transmissions. Additionally, such simulations can also provide valuable insights into the effects of different oil properties on cooling and lubrication efficiencies, thereby helping in matching the lubricant and hardware characteristics for optimal performance. In the present communication, we demonstrate the effects of different lubricants and surface finishing technologies on the tribology of high-speed gears using tribological tests and advanced thermal elastohydrodynamic (TEHD) simulations. Important roles of lubricity additives and surface finish optimization are highlighted in conjunction with a move towards ultralow viscosity EV transmission fluids.

This paper proposed a three-layer distributed simulation network architecture: 1. Distributed virtual simulation network, 2. Perception and control sub-network, and 3. Collaborative communication service network. This simulation architecture runs on a distributed platform. The platform can provide a unique virtual scenario and several simulation services to verify the individual robot system's basic perception, control, and planning algorithms and the distributed collaborative algorithms of heterogeneous multi-robot systems. Furthermore, we designed a simulation experiment scenario for classical heterogeneous robot systems such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). At last, We gave a rough estimation model of the bandwidth.

This study conducts a comprehensive review of the integration of Hybrid Electric Turbochargers in mass-produced road vehicles. The primary objective is to inform the readers about the potential advantages and innovative applications of HETs. Employing a SWOT analysis, the research compares the performance of HETs on thermal engines versus traditional turbochargers and HETs on thermal engines versus HETs on hybrid engines based on a synthesis of multiple research findings. The study elucidates the fundamental mechanics of turbochargers, emphasizing their inherent benefits. Additionally, it introduces a novel approach with the integration of the hy-brid-electric turbocharger, demonstrating its capacity, supported by practical examples. The in-corporation of turbochargers with energy recovery mechanisms, including HETs, is shown to significantly contribute to emissions reduction. Moreover, the electric drive facilitates the utili-zation of hybrid turbines, particularly on low-displacement engines, resulting in enhanced effi-ciency, torque, and liter power. In conclusion, the research underscores the potential of HETs to substantially mitigate the environmental impact of the transportation sector by reducing emis-sions and conserving energy. Their ability to optimize the fuel efficiency and power output of internal combustion engines, coupled with the feasibility of downsized engines, positions HETs as an attractive option for both manufacturers and consumers. However, it is acknowledged that the implementation of HETs is in its early stages, necessitating further research to comprehensively understand their environmental impact. Despite this, the promising positive impact on the en-vironment designates HETs as a technology deserving close attention in the forthcoming years.

Unmanned agricultural tractor (UAT) represents the advanced stage of autonomous navigation and serves as a core technology in agricultural production. It reduces the operator’s workload, and improves operational accuracy and efficiency. This article reviews three aspects of key autonomous navigation technologies for UATs: perception, path planning and tracking, and motion control. The advantages, and shortages of these key technologies on UATs are clarified by analyzing technical principles and the current research status. We conducted summaries and analyses of existing unmanned navigation solutions for different application scenarios in order to identify current bottleneck issues. Based on the analysis of the applicability of key autonomous navigation technologies on UATs, it can be seen that fruitful research progresses have been achieved. The review also summarizes the common problems in current technologies. The application research on sharing and integrating multi-source data for autonomous navigation are relatively weak. There is an urgent need of high-precision, and high-stability sensing equipment. The universality of path planning methods, and the efficiency and precision of path tracking need to be improved. It is necessary to develop high reliability electrical control modules to enhance motion control performance. Overall, advanced sensors, high-performance intelligent algorithms, and reliable electrical control hardware are key factors in promoting the development of UAT technology.

The aim of this study is to investigate transient dynamic flow characteristics of the fluid flow through 5-way electric coolant valve (PCCV : Penta-Control Coolant Valve). To achieve this goal, the present paper attempts the three-dimensional dynamic simulation of the fluid flow through the valve using a commercial CFD solver with moving mesh technique to consider flow inertia and dynamic flow in the opening and closing stages of the ball valve rotating motion. Firstly, dynamic flow characteristics and the thermal mixing inside the PCCV ball valve during the opening and closing stage was analyzed. It is found that the discrepancies between dynamic and steady state simulation is remarkable when fluxes with different levels of enthalpy and momentum flow into the PCCV leads to strong flow interference and flow inertia, while the discrepancies are relatively small at low rotation speed and weak flow interference. Then, the effect of dynamic flow characteristics of the valve on dynamic thermal mixing characteristics at two different ball valve rotational speeds and rotational directions were investigated. It was found that the dynamic flow and thermal mixing characteristics inside the PCCV are greatly affected by the rotation speed, rotation direction, and degree of flow interference between fluxes. It is helpful for the design of the better coolant control strategies and the improvement of the FCEV thermal management system.

The paper outlines a methodology for developing a model to estimate energy consumption in electric vehicles (EVs). The most robust validation indicators were exhibited by an artificial intelligence method, specifically neural networks. Within this framework, two predictive models for EV energy consumption were developed for winter and summer conditions, based on actual driving cycles. Such models hold particular significance for microscale road analyses. The resultant model for test data in summer conditions demonstrates validation indicators with an R2 of 86% and an MSE of 1.4, while for winter conditions, the values are 89% and 2.8, respectively, confirming its high precision. The paper also presents exemplary applications of the developed models, utilizing both real and simulated microscale data. The results obtained and the presented methodology can be especially advantageous for decision-makers in city road management and infrastructure planners, aiding both cognitive understanding and better planning of charging infrastructure networks.

The ubiquitous problem of electrical energy waste is driven by human error, in which people regularly forget to turn off appliances when they leave a room, resulting in excessive consumption. The paper presents an energy-efficient TRIZ-inspired (EETRIZ) paradigm to automate consumer electronic devices in order to address this problem. Employing motion detection at entry and exit points, the system discerns room occupancy, effectively managing electrical appliances like lamps, fans, and air conditioners. The integration of theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) principles guides the ideation and design of an efficient switching mechanism. The system demonstrates that it is flexible by controlling multiple electronic consumer devices simultaneously. This paradigm can be used in a variety of environments, such as homes, offices, schools, and universities, and its goal is to reduce excessive energy use that results from human negligence. With an emphasis on economic viability and environmental impact, the proposed EETRIZ paradigm not only offers enhanced energy efficiency but also lays the groundwork for long-term sustainability practices, aligning with global efforts towards greener and smarter energy management. The proposed EETRIZ is implemented on C platform with support of MPLAB, Nuvoton 8051 Serie MCU Programming, GMPLibrary (GMP-5.1.1) and, Miracl Library. The proposed EETRIZ outperforms current state-of-the-art methods in terms of energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, precision, and user-friendliness, according to hardware testing.

This work targets the development of a mobility control system for high-speed series hybrid electric tracked vehicles, which operate with independent traction motors for each track. The scope of the research encompasses the modeling of the series hybrid powertrain specific to military tracked vehicles, as well as an in-depth analysis of their dynamic behavior. Subsequently, the study conducts a critical review of the mobility control approaches sourced from literature, identifying key techniques relevant to high-inertia vehicular applications. Building on the foundational models, the study puts forward a robust closed-loop mobility control system aimed at ensuring precise and stable off-road vehicle operations. The system's resilience and adaptability to a variety of driving conditions are emphasized, with a particular focus on handling maneuvers such as steering and pivoting, which are challenging operations for tracked vehicle agility. The performance of the proposed mobility control system is tested through a series of simulations, covering a spectrum of operational scenarios. These tests are carried out in both offline simulation settings, which permit meticulous fine-tuning of system parameters, and real-time environments that replicate actual field conditions. The simulation results demonstrate the system's capacity to improve vehicular response and highlight its potential impact on the future designs of mobility control systems for the heavy-duty vehicle sector, particularly in defense applications.

The spring-in phenomenon of the composite parts can affect the assembly process. This study aims to predict the spring-in phenomenon of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) part. Here, we predict the spring-in of the CFRP part using a coupled analysis of the forming and cooling processes during the stamping process. First, a simulation of the entire forming process, such as the transfer of the composite laminate, gravity analysis, and forming was performed to obtain the temperature distribution of the CFRP part. Subsequently, a finite-element (FE) simulation of the cooling process was conducted to predict the spring-in phenomenon of the shaped CFRP part using the temperature data obtained in the forming simulation. Finally, a CFRP part was manufactured and compared with the results of the FE simulation.

The automotive industry needs to improve energy efficiency rapidly to achieve carbon neutrality while creating a safe, secure, comfortable driving environment for customers. Porous sound-absorbing materials and porous thermal insulators are typically used to satisfy these requirements despite limitations in mass and space. While these porous materials are similar, the microstructures they offer for high performance differ in the size and connectivity of their fluid phases, which enhances the difficulty of achieving excellent sound absorption and thermal insulation in the same material. In this study, a hydrophobic cellulose nanofiber–poly(methylsiloxane) xerogel composite was developed using computational microstructure modeling. This porous material has high porosity and excellent thermal insulation and sound absorption properties.

Due to the nonlinear stiffness and fractional-order damping characteristics of some real suspension systems, coupled with the presence of viscoelastic materials, fractional-order nonlinear suspension system modeling has become a focus of research in recent years. In this study, an electric oil and gas actuator based on fractional-order PID position feedback control is proposed, through which the damping coefficient of the suspension system is adjusted to realize the active control of the suspension. A fractional order PID algorithm is used to control the motor's rotational angle to realize the damping adjustment of the suspension system. In this process, the road roughness is collected by the sensors as the criterion of damping adjustment, and the particle swarm algorithm is utilized to find the optimal objective function under different road surface slopes, to obtain the optimal cornering value. According to the mathematical and physical model of the suspension system, the simulation model and the corresponding test platform of this type of suspension system are built. The simulation and experimental results show that the simulation results of the fractional-order nonlinear suspension model are closer to the actual experimental values than those of the traditional linear suspension model, and the accuracy of each performance index is improved by more than 18.5%. The designed active suspension system optimizes the body acceleration, suspension dynamic deflection, and tire dynamic load to 89.8%, 56.7%, and 73.4% of the passive suspension, respectively. Notably, the designed fractional order PID control circuit for the motor shows better control results compared to the conventional PID control circuit. This study provides an effective theoretical and empirical basis for the control and optimization of fractional-order nonlinear suspension systems.

All this is determined by market demands, the engine of a vehicle, and the complexity of assembling the entire car and installing its corresponding embedded software. As a result, concerns about various types of global change have grown, as well as the lack of the ability to use fossil fuels, creating a substantial impact on the purchase and sale of modern automobiles. The research foundation is reflected in covering strategies for the deployment and administration of software, as well as opportunities for business improvement in particular production processes. This article strives to provide a summary of a scientific investigation of original equipment manufacturers, market segmentation, and the effects of global market changes on automotive manufacturing by examining the correlation between certain changes in the purchase of a specific brand and the powertrain of a vehicle. The research tries to examine numerous datasets from the United States of America and Washington State, on the basis of which we may estimate possible future changes in the automotive industry’s sales.

Electric vehicles can effectively make use of the time-of-use electricity price to reduce the charging cost, meanwhile using the grid power to preheat the battery before departure is particularly important for improving the vehicle mileage and reducing the use cost.In this paper, a dynamic programming algorithm is used to optimize the battery AC charging-preheating strategy to minimize the total cost of battery charging and preheating, with the charging current and battery preheating power consumption as the control variables. The cost difference between the optimized control strategy and the conventional preheating strategy was analyzed under different ambient temperatures (-20℃~ 0℃) and different target travel time (7:00 ~ 12:00). The simulation results show that the optimized control strategy makes the battery SOC and temperature reach the set value at the user's target departure time, and the total cost of the grid is the lowest. Compared with the conventional preheating strategy, the optimized control strategy can utilize the power grid energy in the valley price area, reduce the opening time of water heating PTC in the flat and the peak price zones, and the cost utilization rate can reach 18.41% ~ 73.96%, and the cost-saving effect is significant.

This work aims to study and analyze a hybrid power system for electric vehicles consisting of a dual low and high-rate lithium battery block and a fuel cell. In this configuration, the high-rate lithium battery powers the electric vehicle in high power demand processes like acceleration mode or on an uphill road; the low-rate battery operates at a low output power range, servicing the auxiliary systems and low power loads and the fuel cell supplies energy at intermediate power demand conditions, normal driving mode, constant velocity, or flat and downhill terrain. The dual power system improves global efficiency since every power unit operates optimally depending on driving conditions. Power sharing optimizes the lithium battery performance and fuel cell capacity, minimizing the size and weight of each energy system and enlarging the driving range. A comparative study between different lithium battery configurations and fuel cell shows an efficiency improvement of 31.4% for the hybrid dual battery block and fuel cell operating in low, high, and intermediate output power ranges, respectively. The study bases on a simulation process recreating current driving conditions for electric cars in urban, peripheral, and intercity routes. An alternative solution consisting of a hybrid system, fuel cell and a high rate lithium battery produces a 29 % power gain.

We evaluate performance of Isogeometric analysis (IGA) for structural deformation and automobile crash. In automobile crash analysis, ensuring the accuracy of the acceleration, velocity and load in time series as well as the deformation behavior is important. To maintain the aforementioned consistency, accurately reproducing the bending and buckling of structural members is indispensable. In this study, we firstly compute the bending and buckling of structural members using IGA and validate its performance by comparing the results with conventional finite element analysis and experiments. In addition, we utilize IGA for the crash analysis of an automobile body.

The thermal degradation of brakes has a significant impact on the stability of pure electric commercial vehicles during long downhill braking. Based on road slope and using fuzzy control method, design strategies for motor regenerative braking force and friction braking force distribution, with the aim of reducing friction braking force, improving braking stability, and recovering braking energy. By establishing driving conditions on roads with different slopes and using numerical analysis methods to verify the proposed control strategy. the results show that under the 6% constant slope driving condition, the vehicle maintains a constant speed of 30km/h downhill driving, and the braking energy recovery rate reaches 50.93%; Under the condition of 3% -6% gradient driving, the vehicle speed fluctuates slightly, but it can still be maintained at a constant speed of 30km/h for downhill driving through the adjustment of the motor's reverse drag characteristic, with a braking energy recovery rate of 49.97%; During the process of driving downhill at a constant speed, the frictional braking force does not participate in braking; The braking energy recovery rate is determined by the slope and braking deceleration.

The meticulously engineered powertrain mounting system of hybrid-electric vehicles plays a critical role in minimizing vehicle vibrations and noise, thereby enhancing the longevity of vital powertrain components. However, developing and designing such a system demands substantial time and financial investments due to intricate analysis and modeling requirements. To tackle this challenge, this study integrates data-mining technology into the design and optimization processes of the powertrain mount system. The research focuses on the powertrain mounting system of a transverse four-cylinder hybrid-electric vehicle, employing the CRISP-DM (Cross-Industry Standard Process for Data Mining) methodology to establish a data-mining prediction model for mounting stiffness. This model utilizes three data mining algorithms—Multi-SVR, MRTs, and MLPR—assessing their predictive accuracy concerning mounting system stiffness estimation. A comparative analysis reveals that the MRTs algorithm outperforms others as the most effective prediction model. The proposed predictive model elucidates the quantifiable correlation between vibration isolation performance and installation stiffness, overcoming complexities associated with traditional modeling approaches. Applying this model in powertrain mounting system design showcases the efficacy of the CRISP-DM-based approach, significantly enhancing design efficiency without compromising prediction accuracy.

As the production of battery cells experiences exponential growth and electric vehicle fleets continue to expand, an escalating number of traction batteries are nearing the conclusion of their operational life for mobility purposes, both presently and in the foreseeable future. Concurrently, the heightened interest in sustainable energy storage solutions has spurred investigations into potential second-life applications for aging traction batteries. Nonetheless, the predominant practice remains the removal of these batteries from electric vehicles, signifying the end of their life cycle, and their subsequent incorporation into recycling processes, with limited consideration for life-extending measures. This study seeks to elucidate the reasons behind the deprioritization of battery repurposing strategies. Therefore, the research team conducted two industry studies with over 20 battery experts from Europe, revealing concerns about the economic viability of repurposing batteries for stationary storage applications. A literature review of studies published since 2016 confirmed the industry's struggles to address this issue theoretically. In conclusion, a research question was formulated, and a solution approach was delineated to assess the economic prospects of aged traction batteries within the industry's landscape in the future. This solution approach encompasses pertinent market analysis, the identification of representative second-life applications, as well as the formulation of a methodology for evaluating the residual value of these batteries.

Among the sensors necessary to equip vehicles with an autonomous driving system, there is a tacit agreement that cameras and some type of radar would be essential. The ability of radar to spatially locate objects (pedestrians, other vehicles, street furniture and traffic signs) makes it the most economical complement to the cameras in the visible spectrum, in order to give the correct depth to scenes. From the echoes obtained by the radar, some data fusion algorithm will try to locate each object in its correct place within the space surrounding the vehicle. In any case, the usefulness of the radar will be determined by several performance parameters, such as its aver-age error in distance, the maximum errors and the number of echoes per second it can provide. In this work we have tested experimentally the AWR1843 MIMO radar from Texas Instruments to measure those parameters.

This article presents an experimental study focused on the impact of supplementing pure gasoline (E0) with bioethanol, gradually increasing the biofuel concentration up to 70% (E10, E50, and E70). The research was conducted in two phases: In the first phase (Part I), the engine's operation involved varying engine speeds (n = 2000 rpm, n = 2500 rpm) and adjusting throttle openings (15%, 20%, 25%) to analyze changes in brake torque, thermal efficiency, and ecological indicators. The second phase (Part II) aimed to complement and clarify the study data. Here, the engine was maintained at a constant speed (n = 2000 rpm) and brake torque (MB = 80 Nm) while altering ignition timing. The findings revealed that increasing the bioethanol concentration up to 70% led to modest enhancements in engine brake torque and thermal efficiency. However, the most significant impact was observed in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and incomplete combustion byproducts. The study also established that achieving higher thermal efficiency requires compensating for the extended ignition delay phase resulting from bioethanol addition by advancing ignition timing. Nevertheless, this approach is constrained by the escalating emissions of carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons. These findings provide valuable insights into optimizing the balance between bioethanol supplementation, engine performance, and environmental sustainability in spark ignition engines.

The EU has planned the phase-out of new vehicles based on internal combustion engines in favour of high efficiency electric cars by 2035 (Fit for 55 package). However, many doubts remain about the effectiveness of this choice for each Country of the Union in terms of CO2 emissions reduction, as each State is characterized by a different carbon intensity related to the production of electricity needed to manufacture and recharge vehicles. This study seeks to explore the Italian case. To this aim, carbon intensities related to the electricity production were calculated considering both the Italian electricity mix production at 2021 and those at 2035, envisaged considering two scenarios based on different introductions of renewable sources (RES). Afterwards, the values obtained were adopted for determining the CO2 emissions related to the whole production process of battery systems in Italy (emissions from mining and refining, scrap materials and final assembly included) by comparing some of the most up-to-date Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis related to the manufacturing cycle of the batteries. Finally, the results were adopted to calculate the starting carbon debit for A, B, C and M car segments for Mild Hybrid, Full Hybrid and Full Electric powertrains. At the same time, statistical road fuel/electricity consumption data were collected and overall CO2 emissions were calculated for the same vehicles for a defined mileage, so to determine break-even points with respect to the cumulative (i.e., from battery and road) carbon emissions. The results showed that advantages related to electric vehicles are significant only if a low carbon intensity related to electricity production is reached by means of a very high introduction of RES, thus keeping the door open for innovative powertrain technologies (plug-in), if fed with low carbon fuels.

Acknowledging limitations and suggesting future research, this study contributes a valuable framework for Thai automotive service parts management.

In this study, we focused on the eco-driving of electric vehicles (EVs). The target vehicle is an electric bus developed by our research team. Using the parameters of the bus and speed pattern optimization algorithm, we derived the EV eco-driving speed pattern. Compared to eco-driving of internal combustion engine vehicles (ICVs), we found several different characteristics. We verified these characteristics with actual vehicle driving test data of the target bus, and the results confirmed its rationality. The EV eco-driving method can improve electricity consumption by about 10% - 20% under the same average speed.

In this paper, a special recurrent neural network (RNN) called \emph{Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)} is used to design a virtual load sensor that estimates the mass of heavy vehicles. The estimation algorithm consists of a two-layer LSTM network, with the two layers based on sequence-to-sequence and sequence-to-one logic, respectively. The network estimates the vehicle mass based on the vehicle speed, longitudinal acceleration, engine speed, engine torque, and the accelerator pedal position. The network is trained and tested with a data set collected in a high-fidelity simulation environment called Truckmaker. Training data is generated in acceleration maneuvers in a range of speeds whereas test data is obtained by simulating the vehicle in a Worldwide harmonized light vehicles test cycle (WLTC). Preliminary results show that, with the proposed approach, the heavy-vehicle mass can be estimated as accurately as commercial load sensors in a range of load mass as wide as four tons.

Intelligent ship technology is currently an international research hotspot, and model predictive control is widely used in the path-tracking control of intelligent vehicles. To construct an intelligent ship anti-disturbance path-tracking control method, firstly, an environmental disturbance model was constructed with the actual meteorological data of the target sea area. Secondly, the Fossen ship equation of motion is linearized and discretized as the ship motion model. Thirdly, the expression of the prediction equation is derived from the ship motion model. Fourthly, the cost function is constructed by using the polar diameter and polar angle values of the ship. Fifth, the power function in the cost function is replaced with an exponential function to obtain an improved cost function. Sixthly, according to the Lyapunov theory and the MPC terminal constraint theory, the stability of the improved cost function is verified. Seventh, different test paths are set up, the environmental disturbance model is taken as the external disturbance, the ship motion model, the prediction equation, and the improved cost function are used to design the anti-disturbance path-tracking control algorithm according to the model prediction control idea for simulation experiments. Finally, different MATLAB simulation results show that the improved cost function can resist disturbance of the external wave, current, and wind, and effectively track the target path. Therefore, this study provides a reference for improving the navigation safety of ship path-tracking.

This article investigates the source of booming noise emanating from the tailgates of electric vehicles, along with proposed strategies to mitigate it. This study involved the measurement of booming noises during on-road vehicle tests to pinpoint their origins. Additionally, operational deflection shapes (ODS) were extracted from the tailgate vibration signals to gain insight into its dynamic behavior. Modal tests were conducted on the tailgate to determine its dynamic characteristics and compared with driving test results to reveal the mechanism responsible for tailgate-induced booming noise. It was established that such noise is primarily due to the tailgate modes resulting from a combination of rigid body motion in the fore-aft direction and deformation in the central section of the panel. An analytical model of the tailgate was developed using commercial finite element analysis software to propose measures for reducing booming noise. Experimental findings validated the model accuracy. Structural enhancements were implemented to enhance the panel stiffness and improve the connection between the vehicle and tailgate via bushings to dampen the booming noise resulting from tailgate motion. Under random force inputs, analytical results demonstrated a 13.8% reduction in maximum deformation in the tailgate model in the improved structural configuration with increased panel stiffness.

The H2-ICE project aims at developing, through numerical simulation, a new generation of hybrid powertrains featuring a hydrogen fueled Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) suitable for 12-meter urban buses, in order to provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for the abatement of both CO2 and criteria pollutant emissions. The full exploitation of the potential of such a traction system requires a substantial enhancement of the state of the art since several issues have to be addressed. In particular, the choice of the more suitable fuel injection system, as well as the control of the combustion process, are extremely challenging. Firstly, a high-fidelity 3D-CFD model will be exploited to analyze the in-cylinder H2 fuel injection through supersonic flows. Then, after the optimization of the injection and combustion process, a 1D model of the whole engine system will be built and calibrated allowing the identification of a “sweet spot”, in the ultra-lean combustion region, characterized by extremely low NOx emissions and, at the same time, high combustion efficiencies. Moreover, to further enhance the engine efficiency well above 40 %, different Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) systems will be carefully scrutinized, including both Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)-based recovery units as well as electric turbo-compounding. A Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) aftertreatment system will be developed to further reduce NOx emissions to near-zero levels. Finally, a dedicated torque-based control strategy for the ICE coupled with the Energy Management Systems (EMS) of the hybrid powertrain, both optimized by exploiting Vehicle-To-Everything (V2X) connection, allow targeting an H2 consumption of 0.1 kg/km. Technologies developed in the H2-ICE project will enhance the know-how necessary to design and build engines and after-treatment systems for the efficient exploitation of H2 as a fuel, as well as for their integration into hybrid powertrains.

Since sensor-based perception systems are used in autonomous vehicle applications, validating such systems is imperative to guarantee the robustness of the systems before they are being put to use. In this study, a comprehensive corruption-related simulation-based robustness verification and enhancement process for sensor-based perception systems is proposed. Firstly, we present a methodology and scenario-based corruption generation tools for creating diverse simulated test scenarios that can analogously represent real-world traffic environments, especially considering corruption types related to safety concern. Then, an effective corruption similarity filtering algorithm is proposed to remove corruption types with high similarity and identify the representative corruption types to represent all considered corruption types. As a result, we can generate efficient corruption-related robustness test scenarios with less testing time and good scenario coverage. Subsequently, we perform the vulnerability analysis of object detection models to identify model weaknesses and construct an effective training dataset for model vulnerability enhancement. This enhances the tolerance of object detection models to weather and noise-related corruptions, ultimately improving the robustness of the perception system. We employ case studies to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed robustness verification and enhancement procedures. Additionally, we explore the impact of different "similarity overlap threshold" parameter settings on scenario coverage, effectiveness, scenario complexity (size of training and testing datasets), and time costs.

Partially automated driving functions (SAE Level 2) can control a vehicle's longitudinal and lateral movements. However, taking over the driving task involves automation risks that the driver must manage. In severe accidents, the driver's ability to avoid a collision must be assessed, considering their expected reaction behavior. The primary goal of this study is to generate essential data on driver reaction behavior in case of malfunctions in partially automated driving functions for use in legal affairs. A simulator study with two scenarios involving 32 subjects was conducted for this purpose. The first scenario investigated driver reactions to system limitations during cornering. The second scenario examined driver responses to phantom braking caused by the AEBS. As a result, the first scenario shows that none of the subjects could control the situation safely. Due to partial automation, we could also identify a new part of the reaction time, the hands-on time, which leads to increased steering reaction times of 1.18 to 1.74 seconds. In the second scenario, we found that 25 of the 32 subjects could not override the phantom braking by pressing the accelerator pedal, although 16 subjects were informed about the system analog to the actual vehicle manuals. Overall, the study suggests that the current legal perspective on vehicle control and the expected driver reaction behavior for accident avoidance should be reconsidered.

Lateral vehicle control is a high importance in automated vehicles as it directly influences the vehicle’s performance and safety during operation. The Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller stands out due to its high-performance characteristics and is used in the open source for self driving functions. However, a notable limitation of the current approach is the manual calibration of LQR controllers based on the experience and intuition of the designers, leading to empirical uncertainties. To address this issue and enhance the lateral control performance, this paper concentrates on refining the LQR by employing three optimization algorithms: Artificial Bee Colony Optimization (ABC), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). These algorithms aim to overcome the reliance on empirical methods and enable a data-driven approach to LQR calibration. By comparing the outcomes of these optimization algorithms to the manual LQR controller within an offline multibody simulation as testing platform, the study highlights the superiority of the best-performing optimization approach. Following this, the optimal algorithm is implemented on a real-time system for the full vehicle level, revealing the Model-in-the-Loop and the Hardware-in-the-Loop gap up to 78,89% with lateral velocity when we use Relative Error Criterion (REC) method to validate and 2.35m with lateral displacement when considering by maximum absolute value method.

In this paper, we propose a method for the generation of simulation test scenarios for autonomous driving. Based on the requirements of standard regulatory test scenarios, we can generate virtual simulation scenarios and functional scenario libraries for autonomous driving, which can be used for simulation verification of different ADAS functions. Firstly, the design operation domain (ODD) of the functional scenario is selected and the weight values of the ODD elements taken are calculated; then a combination test algorithm based on parameter weights is improved to generate autonomous driving virtual simulation test cases for the ODD elements, which can effectively reduce the number of generated test cases compared with the traditional combination test algorithm; then the traffic participant elements under each test case are Then, the values of the subelements under the traffic participant element in each test case are sampled and clustered to obtain hazard specific scenarios. Finally, the specific scenarios are applied to the automatic emergency braking (AEB) system on the model-in-the-loop (MIL) testbed to verify the effectiveness of this scenario generation method.

Most of the damage to Vleg cars was caused by material fatigue. The objectives of the fatigue analysis on Xenia 2011 car wheels with the Finite Element Method using Solidworks are: 1) Knowing the fatigue analysis process on car wheels, 2) Knowing the results of the fatigue analysis on car wheels. The research method used is the Finite Element Method (FEM) method; the re-search steps include model data retrieval from the Wheel code, 3D model creation process, static simulation process according to SAE J 328 standard, mesh variations, fatigue simulation, and finally, standardization of results fatigue simulation regarding the SAE J 328 standard. The re-sults of the fatigue analysis on the Xenia 2011 car wheels obtained an age of 1000,000 cycles when compared with the minimum average of SAE J 328 of 600,000 cycles, this product design is clas-sified as a high cycle, which means it will experience a prolonged failure, and this design has a maximum alternating stress value of 627.4702 MPa, a strain of 0.007105, a displacement of 7.148 mm and a SOF of 0.087890 with a load factor used of 2.5, so overall this Xenia car can be loaded with a load of 1775 kg, if it is more than that, then Wheels will experience cracking.

The importance of utilizing an optimal and efficient braking system is emphasized in this study. Braking system optimization and efficiency were practically determined through successive tests on the brake dynamometer, according to road safety regulations. Subsequently, the results were correlated with practical tests involving consecutive braking at different speeds, tracking both the time and distance of braking. The coefficient of friction (COF) was established for each braking instance by utilizing the braking force measured on the brake dynamometer. This paper aims to highlight the genuine impact of the braking system by measuring and establishing its braking efficiency depending on the car’s speed, time, and distance of braking.

Autonomous vehicles (AV)s will transform transport, but public opinion will play a key role in the decision how widely and quickly, they will be adopted. The purpose of the study presented here, was to investigate community’s views on the transition. As a method for primary data collection on public awareness, attitudes, and readiness to use autonomous cars, survey was conducted in Saudi Arabia. Following that, we have used statistical tools to analyse responses. Our findings indicate that the participants are mainly open to use new technology and had favourable attitude towards transition. Ordinal logistic regression model showed a wide variation in public opinion regarding the expected benefits that may accompany the transition, despite an average high score on this factor. Our findings reveal that awareness of AVs' benefits is more positively correlated to the age of participants. Perceived cost, on one side, and convenience, and safety, on the other side, have substantial impact on opinions. Investigation, presented here, shows how AVs are seen in Saudi Arabia. This can guide the development of AVs and deployment in that region.

The increasing global demand for energy and the pressing challenge of environmental pollution necessitates a paradigm shift towards sustainable energy sources. Hydrogen, a viable renewable energy carrier, has the potential to substantially alleviate these concerns. This review offers a comprehensive exploration of the technologies imperative to the production and operation of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), ranging from various fuel cell types, hydrogen storage methods, fueling station logistics, batteries in hydrogen vehicles, and the emerging influence of artificial intelligence and quantum computing. An analytical overview of global adoption patterns reveals significant geographical disparities, with the United States and South Korea at the forefront of FCV integration, primarily in the form of passenger cars, followed by buses and trucks. Asia emerges as the region with the highest proportion of FCVs. This paper also delves into the diverse challenges facing FCV implementation, shedding light on the essential role of continued investment in the evolution of sustainable transportation systems. Furthermore, it provides insights into the varying contributions of different companies in the field, demonstrating the collective effort required to advance this promising technology. The comprehensive exploration provided in this review aids in understanding the opportunities, challenges, and potential of hydrogen as an integral player in the future of sustainable transportation. The increasing need for energy carriers and the rise of environmental pollution have driven the exploration of renewable energy sources, with hydrogen being a promising option.

A stable driver state is essential in the process of manually transition control, which inevitably occurs in Level 3 automated driving situations. To this end, this paper proposed a CNN algorithm-based driver state monitoring system that uses multi-sensor data such as driver's face image, biometric information, and vehicle behavior information as input. This system calculates the probability of drowsiness for each of the four time periods using a convolutional neural network (CNN) based on ToF camera-based eye blinking, ECG information (pulse rate) embedded in the steering wheel, and vehicle information (steering angle data). In order to build a reliable and high-quality training dataset (Ground Truth) for the CNN algorithm, a baseline was established by matching the driver's face image with the electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) changes in the drowsy and normal states. In a simulation test of the proposed CNN algorithm using more than 20,000 driver image data acquired using a driving simulator, the TNR was 94.8% and the accuracy was 94.2%. Our proposed method is expected to minimize human errors that may occur when switching control by monitoring inappropriate driver state (drowsiness) in real time.

: In the automotive industry, high-strength plates have been increasingly used to reduce the vehicle body weight due to stringent regulations on fuel economy and safety. Such plates achieve tensile strengths as high as 1.5 GPa owing to the hot-stamping process. However, these plates suffer from scale generation and surface decarburization because of the surface oxidation of the material. Recently, studies on materials subjected to high-frequency induction heating have reported strength improvement owing to the coil shape and cooling method. This study presents the surface temperature changes, mechanical properties, and microstructures of boron steels subjected to longitudinal heating, which uses eddy currents generated from high-frequency induction heating. The surface temperature data were analyzed under different high-frequency induction heating powers (15, 18, 21, 24, 27, and 30 kW) and distances from the specimen (6, 9, and 15 mm). The mechanical properties and microstructures were also analyzed in different high-frequency induction heating coil directions. The correlations between the high-frequency induction heating power and the distance from the specimen with the maximum tensile strength were determined.

Rollover prevention of partially-filled tank trucks is an industry teaser, with the core challenge being real-time perception and observation of the liquid state inside the tank. In order realize re-liable observation of sloshing liquid, this article firstly proposes a sloshing modeling method based on multi-degree-of-freedom pendulum model, and derives the double mass trammel pendulum model (DMTP, 2DOF) accordingly, which accurately reflects the sloshing dynamics under more pervasive working conditions. Secondly, a free surface fluctuation sensor is designed based on magnetostriction, capable of measuring the inclination and height of the liquid level inside tanks filled with hazardous chemical. Finally, the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is utilized to synthesize the information of the two, establishing a credible real-time observation of the sloshing liquid. Verified through vehicle-fluid coupled co-simulation, under condition of con-secutive double lane change, observation error of the proposed method is only 25.9% that of the open-loop calculation, providing a secure guarantee for the observation of the state variables of the single pendulum model (SP) used for most kinds of anti-rollover controller.

Due to the high computational burden and the high nonlinearity of the responses, crashworthiness optimizations are notoriously hard-to-solve challenges. Among various approaches, methods like the Successive Response Surface Method (SRSM) have stood out for their efficiency in enhancing baseline designs within a few iterations. However, these methods have limitations that restrict their application. Their minimum iterative resampling required is often computationally prohibitive. Furthermore, surrogate models are conventionally constructed using Polynomial Response Surface (PRS), a method that is poorly versatile, prone to overfitting, and incapable of quantifying uncertainty. Furthermore, the lack of continuity between successive response surfaces results in suboptimal predictions. This paper introduces the Multi-Fidelity Successive Response Surface (MF-SRS), a Gaussian process-based method, which leverages a nonlinear multi-fidelity approach for more accurate and efficient predictions compared to SRSM. After initial testing on synthetic problems, this method is applied to a real-world crashworthiness task: optimizing a bumper crossmember and crash box system. Results, benchmarked against SRSM and the Gaussian Process Successive Response Surface (GP-SRS) – a single-fidelity Gaussian process-driven extension of SRSM, show that MF-SRS offers distinct advantages. Specifically, it improves upon the specific energy absorbed optimum value achieved by SRSM by 14.1 %, revealing its potential for future applications.

Due to its high power, high efficiency, low pollution, and compact size, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have been widely used in a variety of fields, including electric vehicles, aerospace, wind turbines, and marine devices which are used in renewable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly energy resources. However, in these practical scenarios, the motor operating conditions are complex and variable. Under high temperatures and high current conditions, PMSMs may experience demagnetization failures, not only leading to performance degradation but also inducing unexpected failures of the motors. To reduce the risk of unexpected losses caused by demagnetization faults and improve the safety and reliability of motor systems, it is necessary to apply automated monitoring of the magnet flux of the motor's permanent magnets and achieve real-time diagnosis of early demagnetization faults, ensuring the safe operation of the motor. This review article tries to summarize the current detecting methods of the automated monitoring of demagnetization faults in PMSMs. The main online monitoring technologies from both practical and academic perspectives were summarized and their benefits and challenges have been reviewed. Finally, the research trends and suggestions for future improvements are provided. This review article will not only shed light on the origins of the automated monitoring of demagnetization faults but also help to design highly effective and sustainable permanent magnet synchronous motors.

Road marking recognition is of great importance for the deployment of automated driving systems and for already existing driver line-keeping assistance systems. For proper and reliable function of machine vision systems that include LiDAR and camera, road markings must be visible to them to facilitate planning of driving trajectory. In this study, LiDAR intensity and the number of LiDAR points collected from a field analysis of two road markings systems reflectorised with premium and standard glass beads were analysed. In the lateral direction, it was demonstrated that the use of premium glass beads for road markings lead to 56% higher LiDAR intensity and 14% more LiDAR points captured than in case of standard road markings. In the longitudinal direction, premium road markings showed less distance attenuation, which is seen as advantageous for trajectory planning by machine version systems. The outcomes of this study offer insights for road infrastructure decision-makers, developers of automated driving systems, and researchers in the field of transportation technology.

Virtual validation of radar sensor models is becoming increasingly important for the safety validation of adf. Therefore, methods for quantitative comparison of radar measurements in the context of model validation need to be developed. This paper presents a novel methodology for accessing and quantifying validation measurements of radar sensor models. This method uses edf and the so-called dvm to effectively quantify deviations between distributions. By applying this metric, the study measures the consistency, reproducibility and repeatability of radar sensor measurements. Different interfaces and different levels of detail are investigated. By comparing the radar signals from real world experiments where different objects are present, valuable insights are gained into the performance of the sensor. In particular, the research extends to assessing the impact of varying rain intensities on the measurement results, providing a comprehensive understanding of the sensor’s behaviour under these conditions. This holistic approach significantly advances the evaluation of radar sensor capabilities and enables the quantification of the maximum required quality of radar simulation models.

In order to solve the problems of complicated steering control of unmanned vehicles in the field and difficult steering on complex roads, we designed a wheel-track composite vehicle equipped with a novel power differential steering mechanism with dual driving, which drove the steering of the vehicle through the differential rotation of the rear two wheels. The unmanned vehicle was simple to control, small in size, and able to work under the conditions of complex roads, such as hills, mountains, and muddy land. Firstly, a steering mechanism with both differential speed and force was designed to prevent the vehicle from skidding into muddy land and stopping motionless. Secondly, the kinematics model and dynamics model of the two drive shafts and the two output shafts (wheel shafts) were established. Thirdly, according to the relationship between the rotational speed of the two output shafts and the steering radius of the vehicle, the kinematic model of the rotational speed of the two input shafts and the steering radius of the wheel-track composite vehicle was obtained. Finally, according to the test data, the mathematical model of rotational speeds of the two input shafts and the actual steering radius of the vehicle was obtained by neural network fitting, and the maximum relative error between the model results and the actual steering radius value was 3.53%. The combination of power differential steering mechanism and wheel-track composite unmanned vehicle increased the adhesion with the ground and could better adapt to the complex road environment. In conclusion, the unmanned vehicle had the advantages of continuous radius steering, deceleration and torsion increase, differential lock, etc. It was suitable for all-terrain military and civilian vehicles and various special equipment mobile platforms of the walking device, and the research results could provide theoretical references for the steering control and structural optimization of the wheel-track composite vehicle under the environment of complex road surface.

Existence of hybrid electric vehicles nowadays is one of the emerging technologies worldwide. Different countries are using this technology on their transportation, and nowadays, a lot of other countries are gradually adapting on using this kind of innovation in their transport system. Philippines is among these countries which aims to have a sustainable mobility by embracing the use of hybrid - electric vehicles but still lots of consumers are lacking awareness on this technology. Lack of information on the social, environmental, and economic potential benefits are among the main issues of Philippines consumers that really affect its uptake. The goal of this study was to evaluate the consumer’s perception and purchase intention on the transition of hybrid - electric vehicles for sustainable mobility and transportation here in the Philippines. It aimed to assess consumer awareness with hybrid - electric vehicles and its potential benefits to human beings in terms of social, environmental, and economic aspects. The study also gauged the impact of this perception on consumer’s purchase intention on hybrid - electric vehicles. These objectives were attained using the Descriptive Statistics and Correlation Analysis. Using these methods, the results revealed that majority of the consumers believed on the positive benefits of transitioning to hybrid - electric vehicles in terms of social, environmental, and economic aspects. This study also showed that these benefits have high impact on the consumer’s intention of buying or having a hybrid – electric vehicle. Electric vehicle is one of the most effective measure of decarbonizing the transport system. Furthermore, government and automotive businesses must strengthen their drive in spreading awareness of hybrid – electric vehicle’s benefits to consumers to further support country’s effort for development.

The narrow parking space will result in difficulties in path planning and spot turning caused by sudden changes and discontinuities in path curvature. To address the problem, this paper investigates the performance of three path planning algorithms and proposes a path optimization algorithm. First, the narrow parking space is defined based on single-step parking of the arc-line combination parking algorithm. Second, to compare the arc-line combination algorithm, Hybrid A* algorithm, and particle swarm optimization parking algorithm under different narrow parking spaces, a multi-objective evaluation function is proposed, including three evaluation indicators, namely, the path length, the number of positive and negative conversions of vehicle speed, and the smoothness of the path. Their performance is compared by simulation conducted in MATLAB, the results show that the Hybrid A* algorithm is the better than others for narrow parking spaces. Third, to smooth the planning path, a path optimization algorithm based on the cubic B-spline curve and gradient descent is proposed. Finally, the simulation is conducted between the proposed algorithm and Hybrid A* algorithm, the result shows that the proposal can effectively eliminate the curvature mutation point and constrain the path curvature to meet the requirements of a smooth path.

: Innovative solutions are now being researched to manage the ever-increasing amount of data required to optimize the performance of internal combustion engines. Machine Learning ap-proaches have shown to be a valuable tool for signal prediction due to their real-time and cost-effective deployment. Among them, the architecture consisting of Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and one-dimensional Convolutional Neural Networks (1DCNN) has emerged as a highly promising and effective option for replacing the role of physical sensors. The architecture com-bines the capacity of LSTM to detect patterns and relationships in smaller segments of the signal with the ability of 1DCNN to detect patterns and relationships in larger segments of the signal. The purpose of this work is to assess the feasibility of substituting a physical device dedicated to calculating the torque supplied by a spark-ignition engine. The suggested architecture was trained and tested using signals from the field during a test campaign conducted under transient operating conditions. The results reveal that LSTM+1DCNN is particularly well suited for signal prediction with considerable variability. It constantly outperforms other architectures used for comparison, with average error percentages of less than 2%, proving the architecture's ability to replace physical sensors.

The positional deviation of the Automatic Emergency Call System (AECS) under collision conditions brings difficulties for post-rescue operations. Currently, there is a lack of analysis on the system operating conditions during collisions in the reliability assessment methods for the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) deployed in AECS. Therefore, this paper establishes an in-vehicle collision environment simulation model for emergency calls to explore the influence of parameters such as temperature and vibration on the data deviation of the simulated GNSS system. We also propose environmental limits applicable to comprehensive AECS tests, which can objec-tively evaluate the reliability of AECS and provide data support for AECS bench test. Through the satellite signal-based semi-physical simulation, AECS is subjected to bench test under different operating conditions. The findings of this study demonstrate that the occurrence of random vibra-tion and impact stress, induced by vibration, exerts considerable disruptive effects on positional signal data during collisions. Consequently, it leads to substantial interference with the accurate detection of post-collision satellite positioning information. When the simulation operates under a 2.4gRMS vibration condition, the maximum phase noise error in the positioning system is 8.95%, which does not meet the AECS test accuracy requirements. On the other hand, the semi-simulation system is less affected by temperature changes, and at the maximum allowable temperature dif-ference of the equipment, the maximum phase noise error in the simulated signal is 2.12%. Therefore, based on the influence of phase noise variation on the accuracy of satellite signal simulation, nec-essary environmental conditions for AECS test are obtained, including the temperature consistent with the maximum operating temperature of the vector generator and the vibration Power Spectral Density (PSD) lower than 1.2gRMS.

This paper proposes a multimodal fusion 3D target detection algorithm based on the attention mechanism to improve the performance of 3D target detection. The algorithm utilizes point cloud data and information from camera. For image feature extraction, the ResNet50+FPN architecture extracts features at four levels. Point cloud feature extraction employs the voxel method and FCN to extract point and voxel features. The fusion of image and point cloud features is achieved through regional point fusion and regional voxel fusion methods. After information fusion, the Coordinate attention mechanism and SimAM attention mechanism extract fusion features at a deep level. The algorithm's performance is evaluated using the DAIR-V2X dataset. The results show that compared to the Part-A2 algorithm, the proposed algorithm improves the mAP value by 7.9% in BEV view and 7.8% in 3D view at IOU=0.5 (cars) and IOU=0.25 (pedestrians and cyclist). At IOU=0.7 (cars) and IOU=0.5 (pedestrians and cyclist), the mAP value of the SECOND algorithm is improved by 5.4% in the BEV view and 4.3% in the 3D view, compared to other comparison algorithms.

To describe the hysteresis nonlinearities in smart actuators, numerous models have been presented in the literature, among which the Preisach operator would be the most effective one due to its capability in capturing multi-loop or sophisticated hysteresis curves. When such an operator is coupled with uncertain nonlinear dynamics, especially in noncanonical form, it is a challenging problem to develop techniques to cancel out the hysteresis effects, and at the same time achieve asymptotic tracking performance. To resolve this problem, in this paper, we investigate the problem of iterative inverse-based adaptive control for an uncertain noncanonical nonlinear systems with unknown input Preiasch hysteresis, and a new adaptive version of the closest match algorithm is proposed to compensate for the Preisach hysteresis. With our scheme, the stability and convergence of the closed-loop system can be established. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is illustrated by simulation and experiment results.

As one of the main equipment of coal transportation, the belt conveyor with detection system is an important direction for the development of intelligent mine. The occurrences of non-coal foreign objects making contact with belts are common phenomenon in complex production environments and improper human operations. In order to avoid major safety accidents caused by scratches, deviation and breakage of the belt, a foreign object detection method is proposed for belt conveyor in this work. Firstly, a foreign object image dataset is collected and established, and IAT image enhancement module and attention mechanism of CBAM are proposed to enhance image data sample. Moreover, to predict the angle information of foreign objects with large aspect ratios, a rotating decoupling head is designed, and a MO-YOLOX network structure is constructed. Some experiments are carried out with the belt conveyor in the mine intelligent mining equipment laboratory, and the detections of different foreign objects are analyzed. Experimental results show that the accuracy, recall, and mAP50 of the proposed rotating frame foreign object detection method reaches 93.87%, 93.69%, and 93.72%, and the average inference time of foreign object detection is 25 ms.

Coastal areas are influenced by natural coastal hazards such as hurricanes, storm surges and tsunamis. For centuries coastal structures such as seawalls, detached breakwaters, groins, and revetments have been constructed to protect coastal properties. However, their effectiveness diminishes with time, and they are not adaptable to changing coastal conditions. Ecosystem-based approaches offer protection against erosion and the creation or restoration of coastal habitats. However, the protection properties and the sustainability provided by these systems are not well understood. Salt marshes have been known as one of the ecosystem-based protection systems. They protect coasts and lands by dissipating energy, stabilizing sediments and producing organic matter through blow ground production. Stems of plants dissipate waves propagating over salt marsh and plant roots stabilize soils and sediments. The dissipation rate varies with wave frequency; the low-frequency swell wave is dissipated less on the edge of the marsh than wind-sea waves. Salt and wetlands can also be used for reducing coastal flooding and storm surges, but a wetland is required to successfully attenuate storm surges. A salt marsh can be resilient to sea-level rise in certain conditions. Large sediment supply and gentle upland slope increase salt marsh resiliency to relative sea-level rise. Connecticut marshes, like other marshes in the world, are vulnerable to anthropogenic and climate change effects. However, an assessment of current sea level rise and average marsh accretion rates in Connecticut demonstrates sea level rise is not the main vulnerable factor for salt marshes loss. The study on the feasibility of developing an ecosystem based on two coastlines in Connecticut, Guilford and Stratford, shows that both coastlines, like other coastlines in Connecticut, have limited wave energy, which is a positive factor for marsh growth. The available data assessment represents that sediment supply is the most important parameter to guarantee the resilience and sustainability of a newly developed salt marsh system in Connecticut. In Stratford, conditions for establishing a new ecosystem seem to be better, as the fetch length is pretty small, and there is some sediment supply for the ecosystem. In Guilford, wave energy is limited, but it is more than in Stratford case. In addition, sediment availability is low and the coastline experienced a large erosion during Hurricane Sandy and has not recovered yet.

In current electric vehicles, the traction battery is intended to store energy. When designing this battery different parameters must be taken into account in order to arrange the battery/module/cells in the mechanically and thermally safest configuration. Moreover, the battery layout must have a correct dynamic behavior in possible collisions. In the present study, different battery configurations plus added energy absorbers are analyzed. In order to do that, an internal combustion vehicle modeled with finite elements is applied as the reference model. The structural behavior of the different battery configurations in the event of a side collision is examined. Firstly, the safest arrangement is stablished, both with respect to cabin intrusion and thermal runaway propagation. Secondly, the safest arrangement that guarantees the safety of the occupants in the event of a side collision is analyzed but using the MADYMO. This software includes experimentally validated dummies which allow have an insight in the stresses experienced by occupants. On the one hand, the analysis states that the battery pack inclusion in the vehicle increases the stiffness of the car floor, resulting in fewer intrusions in the passenger compartment. Therefore, a greater safety for the occupants is reached. On the other hand, none of the configurations analyzed has shown enough safety against the phenomenon of Thermal Runaway.

With advances in the development of autonomous vehicles (AVs), more attention has been paid to the effects caused by adverse weather conditions on them. It is well known that the performance of self-driving vehicles is reduced when they are exposed to stressors that impair visibility or generate water or snow accumulation on sensor surfaces. This paper proposes a model to quantify weather precipitation, such as rain and snow, perceived by moving vehicles based on outdoor data. The modelling covers a wide range of parameters, such as varying wind direction and realistic particle size distributions. The model allows the calculation of precipitation intensity on inclined surfaces of different orientations and on a circular driving path. The modelling results were partially validated against direct measurements carried out by a test vehicle. The model outputs showed strong correlation with the experimental data for both rain and snow. Mitigation strategies for heavy precipitation on vehicles can be developed and correlations between precipitation rate and accumulation level can be traced using the presented analytical model. Dimensional Analysis of the problem has highlighted the critical parameters that can help the design of future experiments. The obtained results highlight the importance of the angle of the sensing surface on the perceived precipitation level. The proposed model is used to analyze optimal orientations for minimization of the precipitation flux, which can help to determine the positioning of sensors on the surface of autonomous vehicles.

The need for continuous research to refine the models used in accident reconstruction appears with the development of new car models that satisfy consumer complaints. The paper analyzed a sub-sequence of car and pedestrian accidents, from the perspective of the distance traveled by them in the contact phase, with the aim of improving the information regarding the reconstruction of road accidents. The research included the analysis of some accidents with pedestrian dummies, as well as the simulation of the impact between different classes of vehicles and pedestrians in two different walking positions. Specialized software was used with complex multibody models of pedestrians, modifying the speed and deceleration parameters at the time of the collision. The research results highlight the differences between bilinear models used in accident reconstruction and the proposed study. They can also be used to determine the distance traveled by the vehicle in the first phase of the collision with pedestrians.

In the Formula Student Racing Car, the anti-deformation ability of the frame will affect the four-wheel positioning parameters of the racing car, and then affect the handling and stability performance of the racing car. The quality of the frame directly determines the power and economy of the racing car, so the performance of the frame is very important to the performance of the race. In order to improve the performance of the frame and reduce the total weight of the frame, the research on the lightweight design of the frame is particularly important. In this paper, based on the variable density method, the global topology optimization of the frame is carried out to obtain the distribution of the frame material, realize the efficient use of the material, and improve the torsional stiffness of the frame. Based on the adjoint variable method, the sensitivity analysis of the frame is carried out. According to the sensitivity analysis results, the size of the frame is optimized. The total mass of the frame is reduced by 12.8 %, and the performance of the maximum displacement and maximum stress is improved. The lightweight design of the frame is realized as a whole.
