Recent advancements in cognitive neuroscience, particularly in Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal processing, image generation, and brain-computer interfaces (BCI), have opened up new avenues for research. This study introduces a novel framework, Bridging Artificial Intelligence and Neurological Signals (BRAINS), which leverages the power of AI to extract meaningful information from EEG signals and generate images. The BRAINS framework addresses the limitations of traditional EEG analysis techniques, which struggle with nonstationary signals, spectral estimation, and noise sensitivity. Instead, BRAINS employs Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks and contrastive learning, which effectively handle time-series EEG data and recognize intrinsic connections and patterns. The study utilizes the MNIST dataset of handwritten digits as stimuli in EEG experiments, allowing for diverse yet controlled stimuli. The data collected is then processed through an LSTM-based network employing contrastive learning and extracting complex features from EEG data. These features are fed into an image generator model, producing images as close to the original stimuli as possible. This study demonstrates the potential of integrating AI and EEG technology, offering promising implications for the future of brain-computer interfaces.

Honeypots are vital security tools that enable cybersecurity specialists to scrutinize the tactics employed by attackers. By doing so, they can get valuable insights into existing and upcoming internet dangers. Cyber-attacks are in a perpetual evolution, increasingly sophisticated and tailored to exploit specific vulnerabilities. Hence, it is imperative for both organizations and individuals not only to consider but also implement methods to safeguard themselves against cyberattacks and malware. This paper assesses a specific group of honeypot systems by considering detection range, emulation accuracy, data quality, dependability, scalability, performance, extensibility, installation options, setup difficulty, and maintenance requirements. Furthermore, it provides conclusions regarding the relative effectiveness of diverse honeypot systems in different situations. As a part of the research, it analyzes the latest progress and innovations in honeypot development, including enhancements in machine learning, heightened automation, integration with other security tools, cloud-based honeypots, and deception technology by using simulated assaults to showcase the logging and recording capabilities of these honeypots in capturing attack information. After carefully analyzing each honeypot, each has unique advantages, disadvantages, and special characteristics.

This paper thoroughly assesses the ARM and RISC-V architectures in the context of High-Performance Computing (HPC). It includes an analysis of Docker, Kubernetes, and KVM virtualization integration. Our study aims to evaluate and compare these systems' performance, scalability, and practicality in a general context and then assess the impact that might have on special use cases, like HPC. ARM-based systems exhibited better performance and seamless integration with Docker and Kubernetes, underscoring their advanced development and effectiveness in managing high-performance computing workloads. On the other hand, despite their open-source architecture, RISC-V platforms presented considerable intricacy and difficulties in coordinating with Kubernetes, which hurt their overall effectiveness and ease of management. The results of our study offer valuable insights into the practical consequences of implementing these architectures for HPC, highlighting ARM's preparedness and the potential of RISC-V while acknowledging the increased complexity involved and significant trade-offs at this point.

This paper addresses the challenges of improving the accuracy of low-cost particulate matter sensors (LCPMS) under high humidity conditions. Such weather conditions often lead to the overestimation of particle counts due to hygroscopic particle growth, resulting in a potential public concern, although most of the detected particles consist of just water. The paper presents an innovative design for an indicative air-quality measuring station that integrates the particulate matter sensor with a preconditioning subsystem designed to mitigate the impact of humidity. The preconditioning subsystem works by heating the incoming air, effectively reducing the relative humidity and preventing the hygroscopic growth of particles before they reach the sensor. To validate the effectiveness of this approach, parallel measurements were conducted using both preconditioned and non-preconditioned sensors over a period of 19 weeks. The data was analyzed to compare the performance of the sensors in terms of accuracy for PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 particles. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in measurement accuracy for the preconditioned sensor, especially in environments with high relative humidity. When the conditions were too severe and both sensors started measuring incorrect values, the preconditioned sensor measured values were closer to the actual values. Also, the period of measuring incorrect values was shorter with the preconditioned sensor. The results suggest that the implementation of air preconditioning subsystems in LCPMS can provide a cost-effective solution to overcome humidity-related inaccuracies, thereby improving the overall quality of measured air pollution data.

This paper explores the development of a sophisticated system for automatic test generation tailored specifically for Java web applications utilizing REST interfaces. Writing tests ensures the quality of the software solution event after the introduction of subsequent changes, because automated regression testing can detect potential bugs in the code event before the application is resealed into production. By utilizing and comparing various automatic test generators, the system described provides users with a visual representation of code structure and coverage, enhancing insights through call graph visualization. The paper describes the concepts of theoretical automatic test generators, gives an overview of generators, and details the design and implementation of the implemented solution, which integrates the system test generator and the unit test generator based on open source to achieve the maximum code coverage level.

This research elucidates the pivotal role of trust in e-commerce environments and the deployment of innovative e-commerce models designed to minimize personal data sharing. By integrating advanced privacy-enhancing technologies and adhering to stringent regulatory standards such as the GDPR, this study demonstrates effective strategies for robust data protection. The paper contributes to the academic discourse by providing a comprehensive framework that synergizes legal, technological, and procedural elements to fortify data security and enhance consumer trust in digital marketplaces. This approach aligns with international data protection standards and offers a pragmatic blueprint for achieving sustainable data security in e-commerce.

In the era of DevOps, developing new toolsets and frameworks that leverage DevOps principles is crucial. This paper demonstrates how Ansible’s powerful automation capabilities can be harnessed to manage the complexity of Kubernetes environments. This paper evaluates efficiency across various CNI (Container Network Interface) plugins by orchestrating performance analysis tools across multiple power profiles. Our methodology, which involves managing numerous components, dependencies, and configurations, requires high expertise and precision. Our performance evaluations across network interfaces with different theoretical bandwidths gave us a comprehensive understanding of CNI performance and overall efficiency. Our research confirms that certain CNIs are better suited for specific use cases, mainly when tuning our environment for smaller or larger network packages and workload types, but also that there are configuration changes we can make to mitigate that. This paper also provides research into how to use performance tuning to optimize the performance and efficiency of our CNI infrastructure, with practical implications for improving the performance of Kubernetes environments in real-world scenarios, particularly in more demanding scenarios such as High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

In the dynamic realm of HPC (High-performance computing) and cloud-native applications, ensuring optimal network performance for Kubernetes Container Network Interfaces (CNIs) is critical. Traditional manual methods for evaluating network bandwidth and latency are prone to errors, time-consuming, and lack consistency. This paper introduces a novel approach that leverages Ansible to automate and coordinate network performance tests across diverse CNIs, performance profiles, and configurations. By automating these processes, we eliminate the potential for human errors, ensure the ability to replicate the process, and significantly reduce the time required for comprehensive testing. The use of Ansible playbooks facilitates the efficient and scalable deployment, configuration, and execution of performance tests, enabling comprehensive and standardized benchmarking across various environments. The set of Ansible playbooks, which we will make available online, has a significant real-world impact by providing DevOps teams with robust and reliable tools for consistently monitoring and enhancing network performance. This, in turn, enhances the stability and efficiency of cloud-native applications, accelerates the development cycle, and ensures that Kubernetes-based infrastructures can meet the demanding performance requirements of modern applications.

The Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) security system follows the "never trust, always verify" principle. The process constantly verifies users and devices trying to access resources. This paper describes how Microsoft Azure uses ZTA to enforce strict identity verification and access rules across the cloud environment to improve security. Implementation is time-consuming and difficult. Azure's extensive services and customizations require careful design and implementation. Azure administrators struggle to navigate and change configurations due to its complex user interface (UI). Each Azure ecosystem component must meet ZTA criteria. ZTA's comprehensive policy definitions, multi-factor and pass-wordless authentication, and other advanced features are tested in a mid-size business scenario. These configuration changes require a solid grasp of Azure's architecture and Zero Trust. Implementing an Azure ZTA reduces vulnerabilities and restricts authorized users' access to critical resources. Implementation is time-consuming and expensive, requires a significant commitment to changing IT procedures, and can be confusing because the same features are available in multiple places. Azure ZTA has shown great potential for both hybrid and cloud-native companies.

The accurate counting of passengers in public transport systems is crucial for optimizing operations, improving service quality, and planning infrastructure. It can also contribute to reducing the number of public transport lines where a high frequency of vehicles is not needed in certain periods during the year, but also by increasing the number of lines where the need is increased. This paper provides a comprehensive review of current methodologies and technologies used for passenger counting, with a focus on image processing and machine learning techniques and concepts. The paper explores various algorithms, including traditional computer vision methods and advanced deep learning approaches, highlighting their strengths and limitations. Additionally, the paper examines the integration of these technologies with other sensing modalities such as infrared sensors, Wi-Fi, and RFID. By analyzing recent advancements and case studies, this review aims to offer insights into the effectiveness, scalability, and practicality of different passenger counting solutions and offers a solution proposal. The paper also analyzed the current GDPR regulation that applies to the European Union and how it affects the use of systems like this. Future research directions and potential areas for technological innovation are also discussed to guide further developments in this field.

Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is a process to automatically detect human activities based on stream data generated from various sensors, including inertial sensors, physiological sensors, location sensors, cameras, time, and many others. Unsupervised contrastive learning has been excellent, while the contrastive loss mechanism is less studied. In this paper, we provide a temperature (τ) variance study affecting the loss of SimCLR model and ultimately full HAR evaluation results. We focus on understanding the implications of unsupervised contrastive loss in context of HAR data. In this work, also regulation of the temperature(τ) coefficient is incorporated for improving the HAR feature qualities and overall performance for downstream tasks in healthcare setting. Performance boost of 1.3% is observed in experimentation.

In the past twenty years, the IT industry has moved away from using physical servers for workload management to workloads consolidated via virtualization and, in the next iteration, further consolidated into containers. In the next step, container workloads based on Docker and Podman as underlying container technologies were orchestrated/automated via Kubernetes or OpenShift. On the other hand, high-performance computing (HPC) environments have been lagging in that process, as there’s still much work to figure out how to apply containerization platforms for HPC in real-life scenarios. Kubernetes and OpenShift have many advantages – generally speaking, container technologies use quite a bit less overhead from the computing perspective while providing many benefits in flexibility, modularity, and maintenance. Therefore, they are ideal for tasks requiring a lot of computing power. There are also some tradeoffs regarding the complexity of these two platforms - they’re just not that user-friendly when used by people without years of experience managing them. In this paper, we propose a different architecture based on seamless hardware integration and user-friendly, dynamic workload placement based on real-time performance analysis and prediction coupled with Machine Learning-based scheduling.

Let $G$ be a group with identity $e$ and $R$ be a commutative $G$-graded ring with nonzero unity $1$. Graded semi-primary and graded $1$-absorbing primary ideals have been investigated and examined by several authors as generalizations of graded primary ideals. However, these three concepts are different. In this article, we characterize graded rings over which every graded semi-primary ideal is graded $1$-absorbing primary and graded rings over which every graded $1$-absorbing primary ideal is graded primary.

We propose a thermodynamic model describing the thermoelastic behavior of composition graded materials. The compatibility of the model with second law of thermodynamics is explored by applying a generalized Coleman-Noll procedure. We calculate the speeds of coupled first- and second-sound pulses, propagating either trough nonequilibrium or trough equilibrium states. We characterize several different types of perturbations, depending on the value of the material coefficients. Under the assumption that the deformation of the body can produce changes in its stoichiometry, altering locally the material composition, the possibility of propagation of pure stoichiometric waves is pointed out. Thermoelastic perturbations generated by the coupling of stoichiometric and thermal effects are analyzed as well.

Let R be a commutative graded ring with unity, S be a multiplicative subset of homogeneous elements of R and P be a graded ideal of R such that P\bigcap S=\emptyset In this article, we introduce several results concerning graded S-prime ideals. Then we introduce the concept of graded weakly S-prime ideals which is a generalization of graded weakly prime ideals. We say that P is a graded weakly S-prime ideal of R if there exists s\in S such that for all x, y\in h(R), if 0\neq xy\in P, then sx\in P or sy\in P. We show that graded weakly S-prime ideals have many acquaintance properties to these of graded weakly prime ideals.

We report a theoretical derivation of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix parameters and the accompanying mixing angles. These results are arrived at from the exceptional Jordan algebra applied to quark states, and from expressing flavor eigenstates (i.e. left-chiral states) as superposition of mass eigenstates (i.e. the right-chiral states) weighted by square-root of mass. Flavor mixing for quarks is mediated by the square-root mass eigenstates, and the mass ratios used have been derived in earlier work from a left-right symmetric extension of the standard model. This permits a construction of the CKM matrix from first principles. There exist only four normed division algebras, they can be listed as follows - the real numbers $\mathbb{R}$, the complex numbers $\mathbb{C}$, the quaternions $\mathbb{H}$ and the octonions $\mathbb{O}$. The first three algebras are fairly well known; however, octonions as algebra are less studied. Recent research has pointed towards the importance of octonions in the study of high energy physics. Clifford algebras and the standard model are being studied closely. The main advantage of this approach is that the spinor representations of the fundamental fermions can be constructed easily here as the left ideals of the algebra. Also the action of various Spin Groups on these representations too can be studied easily. In this work, we build on some recent advances in the field and try to determine the CKM angles from an algebraic framework. We obtain the mixing angle values as $\theta_{12}=11.093^o, \theta_{13}=0.172^o, \theta_{23}=4.054^o$. In comparison, the corresponding experimentally measured values for these angles are $13.04^o \pm 0.05^o, 0.201^o \pm 0.011^o, 2.38^o \pm 0.06^o $. The agreement of theory with experiment is likely to improve when running of quark masses is taken into account.

We derive the stabiliser group of the four-vector, also known as Wigner’s little group, in case of massless particle states, as the maximal solvable subgroup of the proper orthochronous Lorentz group of dimension four, known as the Borel subgroup. In the absence of mass, particle states are disentangled into left and right handed chiral states, governed by the maximal solvable subgroups sol2± of order two. Induced Lorentz transformations are constructed and applied to general representations of particle states. Finally, it is argued how the spin-flip contribution is closely related to the occurrence of nonphysical spin operators.

We present an exploration of algebra B, a recently published unital and non-associative algebra. Unique complex entities emerged from this algebra, distinct from both quaternion and complex number systems, which we termed treons. We defined the treonic number system and established an isomorphism between this system and the real vector space. Our findings revealed that the treonic representation maintained structural integrity under the defined operations. Based on this foundation, we proceed to determine Euler identity for algebra B within the treonic system. By presenting the fundamental definitions and properties of algebra B, we derived a generalized version of Euler identity applicable within this algebra. This formula revealed the emergence of hyperbolic trigonometric entities, extending the applicability of Euler identity beyond traditional complex numbers. Our results provide a theoretical foundation for a deeper understanding of the properties and behaviors of complex entities within this expanded algebraic framework, thus enabling new theoretical developments and practical applications in the realms of advanced mathematics and theoretical physics.

In this paper, we provide some enlightening examples of the application of Clifford algebra in geometry, which show the concise representation, simple calculation and profound insight of this algebra. The definition of Clifford algebra implies geometric concepts such as vector, length, angle, area and volume, and unifies the calculus of scalar, spinor, vector and tensor, so that it is able to naturally describe all variables and calculus in geometry and physics. Clifford algebra unifies and generalizes real number, complex, quaternion and vector algebra, converts complicated relations and operations into intuitive matrix algebra independent of coordinate systems. By localizing the basis or frame of space-time and introducing differential and connection operators, Clifford algebra also contains Riemann geometry. Clifford algebra provides a unified, standard, elegant and open language and tools for numerous complicated mathematical and physical theories. Clifford algebra calculus is an arithmetic-like operation that can be well understood by everyone. This feature is very useful for teaching purposes, and popularizing Clifford algebra in high schools and universities will greatly improve the efficiency of students to learn fundamental knowledge of mathematics and physics. So Clifford algebra can be expected to complete a new big synthesis of scientific knowledge.

This work intends to present a study on relations between a Lie algebra called dispersion operators algebra, linear canonical transformation and a phase space representation of quantum mechanics that we have introduced and studied in previous works. The paper begins with a brief recall of our previous works followed by the description of the dispersion operators algebra which is performed in the framework of the phase space representation. Then, linear canonical transformations are introduced and linked with this algebra. A multidimensional generalization of the obtained results is given.

The paper describes the Field Boundary Element Method applied to the fracture analysis of a 2D rectangular plate made of Functionally Graded Material to calculate Mode I Stress Intensity Factor. The object of the Field Boundary Element Method is the transversely isotropic plane plate. Its material presents an exponential variation of the elasticity tensor depending on a scalar function of position, i.e., the elastic tensor results from multiplying a scalar function by a constant taken as a reference. Several examples using a parametric representation of the structural response show the suitability of the method that constitutes a sight of Stress Intensity Factor evaluation of Functionally Graded Materials plane plates even in the case of more complex geometries.

Let N = N₀+ N₁+ N₂ be a Z₃-graded Novikov algebra. The main goal of the paper is to prove that over a field of characteristic not equal to 3 the algebra N is solvable if N₀ is solvable. We also show that a $Z_2$-graded Novikov algebra N=N₀+ N₂ over a field of characteristic not equal to 2 is solvable if N₀ is solvable. This implies that for every n of the form n=2^k3^l, any Z_n-graded Novikov algebra N over a field of characteristic not equal to 2,3 is solvable if N₀ is solvable.

Theoretical approaches to calculate pKa values for Brønsted acids is a challenging task that, most of the time, involves sophisticated and time-consuming methods. Therefore, heuristic approaches are efficient and appealing methodologies to approximate these values. Herein, by considering the electrostatic potential on acidic hydrogen atoms in a similar fashion that a σ–hole is defined, we calculated the maximum surface potential, V_S,max, and used it as a descriptor to correlate it with experimental acidity constants. These values were calculated using the CPCM implicit solvent model (water) with six different methods: five density functionals and the Møller–Plesset second order perturbation theory. Six different basis sets were combined with each method in order to benchmark a total of thirty-six levels of theory. Overall, 1080 calculations were performed and found to correlate with experimental data. The ωB97X-D/6-31+G(d,p) level of theory stands as the best one for consistently reproduce the reported pKa values.

This article is the first part of a scientific project under the general title "Geometrized Vacuum Physics". This study is based on two main postulates: 1) independence of the propagation velocity of electromagnetic waves in vacuum from their frequency; 2) the constancy of the averaged zero vacuum balance, associated with the assertion that only mutually opposite formations are born from vacuum, so that on average they completely compensate for each other's manifestations. In this part of the "Geometrized Vacuum Physics" the foundations of the Algebra of Stignatures are laid, which is the mathematical and logical foundation of the entire project. In the next articles of this project it will be shown that the Algebra of Stignatures can be used for the development of "zero" (vacuum) technologies, algebraic genetics, vacuum cosmology, the vacuum standard model of "elementary particles", vacuum gravity and levitation, vacuum energy, ethics and aesthetics and many other branches of knowledge. At the end of this article, one of the many possible applications of the Algebra of Stignatures is given, in particular, the basics of the stignature-spectral analysis are outlined, with the help of which the possibilities of communication channels can be significantly expanded.

This article is the second part of a scientific project under the general name "Geometrized vacuum physics". On the basis of the Algebra of Stignatures presented in the previous article [1], this article develops the main provisions of the Algebra of Signatures. Both of the above algebras are aimed at studying the properties of an ideal vacuum, but at the same time they are universal and can be applied in various branches of knowledge. It is shown that the signature of a quadratic form is related to the topology of the metric space for which the given quadratic form is a metric. Conditions are given under which an additive imposition of metric spaces with different topologies (or signatures) leads to a total Ricci flat space similar to a Calabi-Yau manifold. A spin-tensor representation of metrics with different signatures is considered and a Dirac bundle of quadratic forms is presented. This article does not contain physical applications of the Algebra of Signatures, but the potential power of this mathematical apparatus will be demonstrated in subsequent articles of this project.

In this note we construct explicit complex and real matrix representations for the generators of real Clifford algebra $C\ell_{p,q}$. The representation is based on Pauli matrices and has an elegant structure similar to the fractal geometry. We find two classes of representation, the normal representation and exceptional one. The normal representation is a large class of representation which can only be expanded into $4m+1$ dimension, but the exceptional representation can be expanded as generators of the next period. In the cases $p+q=4m$, the representation is unique in equivalent sense. These results are helpful for both theoretical analysis and practical calculation. The generators of Clifford algebra are the faithful basis of $p+q$ dimensional Minkowski space-time or Riemann space, and Clifford algebra converts the complicated relations in geometry into simple and concise algebraic operations, so the Riemann geometry expressed in Clifford algebra will be much simple and clear.

Collaboration across the agriculture supply chain is essential to address the high-yield demand and sustainable practices amid global overpopulation. Limited resources, such as soil, are compromised by excessive chemical agents and nutrient use. The Internet of Things (IoT) and smart farming offer solutions by optimizing agent application, data analysis, and farm monitoring. Evidence from numerous studies indicates that collaboration in the supply chain, including farmers, can improve efficiency and productivity, reduce costs, and enhance crop quality. This research focuses on implementing IoT technology to enhance decision-making for crop yield optimization and sustainable practices on a real farm. By collaborating with a farm in the southern region of Zagreb, Croatia, farmers were trained on sensor usage and yield monitoring. Small farms in that region face challenges in improving yields due to limited capacity and lack of entrepreneurial skills. The DMAIC methodology was applied to define the problem and measure relevant parameters. The analysis demonstrated consistent patterns between electrical conductivity (EC) measurements and potassium levels in soil. It suggests the potential for estimating potassium concentrations based on EC readings, or vice versa. Leveraging EC as a proxy for potassium levels could offer a cost-effective means of assessing soil fertility and nutrient dynamics. Additionally, the PCA biplot analysis highlighted that pH value behaved independently. Understanding these dynamics enhances knowledge of soil variability and informs sustainable soil management practices.

The Polynomial coefficient function, from the complex hyperspace Cⁿ in itself, is the function Fⁿ that provides the coefficients of the polynomial (x - a₁)(x - a₂)... (x-a_n). A proof of the fundamental theorem of algebra is given where the surjectivity of this function is obtained from a Recurrent Coefficient Equation.

The aim of the article is to develop geometrized physics of a vacuum on the basis of two basic postulates: 1) the constancy of the speed of light (more precisely, the speed of propagation of electromagnetic waves) in the vacuum; 2) the ‘vacuum balance condition’ associated with the statement that only mutually opposite formations are born from the vacuum, so that, on average, they completely compensate of the manifestations of each other. The Algebra of signatures is proposed as a mathematical basis for geometrized physics of a vacuum.

Scator set, introduced by Fernández-Guasti and Zaldívar, is endowed with a very peculiar non-distributive product. In this paper we consider the scator space of dimension $1+2$ and the so called fundamental embedding which maps the subset of scators with non-zero scalar component into 4-dimensional space endowed with a natural distributive product. The original definition of the scator product is induced in a straightforward way. Moreove, we propose an extension of the scator product on the whole scator space, including scators with vanishing scalar component.

The Heisenberg Lie algebra (HA) plays an important role in mathematics with Fourier transforms, as well as for the foundations of quantum theory where it expresses the operators of space-time, X, and their commutation rules with the momentum operators, D, that execute infinitesimal translations in X. Yet it is known that space-time is curved and thus the D operators must interfere thus giving “structure constants” that vary with location which suggests a mathematical generalization of the concept of a Lie algebra to allow for “structure constants” that are functions of X. We here investigate the mathematics of such a “generalized Heisenberg algebra” (GHA) which has “structure constants” that are functions of X and thus are in the enveloping algebra rather than constants. As expected, the Jacobi identity no longer holds globally but only in small regions of space-time where the [D, X] commutator can be considered locally constant and thus where one has a true Lie algebra. We show that one is able to reframe Riemannian geometry in this GHA. As an example, it is then shown that one can express the Einstein equations of general relativity as commutation rules. If one requires that the GHA commutator reduces to the HA of quantum theory in the limit of no curvature, then there are observable effects for quantum theory in this curved space time.

In this paper, we present the application of a special soil resistivity model, the Exponentially Graded Multilayered Soil model, to the interpretation of Borehole Resistivity Logging surveys. The model, which was recently introduced by the authors, offers an alternative to the interpretation provided by constant resistivity layer models. The model is applied to synthetic soil surveys as well as to a real survey that is not satisfactorily interpreted using conventional models.

Mechanical response of composite structures concerning also natural frequencies is a function of material and geometrical describing plates and shells. In the present paper the optimization of those parameters is demonstrated. It is based on the formulation that uses the key-points (spline functions) and evolutionary algorithms. The numerical solutions dealing with the optimal design of axisymmetric cylindrical shells having variable radius are presented and discussed in details.

The aim of this paper is to show how the mathematical basis is used for a precise treatment of double-entry bookkeeping, which was firstly developed in the nineteenth century by Sir William Rowan Hamilton. This is done by using basic notions of matrix algebra with the roots to the idea of using ordered pairs. We also reveal how the complex numbers and the rationals (fractions) developed in a mainstream of accounting science and became a leading platform for the ongoing processes within the Industry 4.0. The paper concludes with the examples on how accounting operations can be represented by matrix equations with a result of the essential report generating. The author represents a mathematical model of accounting which is independent of the specific existential forms but is capable to undertake the form of any of them and thus has the prospect of being understood and accepted by specialists globally.

The study focuses on the free vibration analysis of beams made of axially functionally graded materials (AFGM) with curvilinear variable cross-sections along their length. The beams encompass various shapes, including concave and convex conic sections, with axial material properties varying according to polynomial and exponential laws. The equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's principle within the framework of Timoshenko beam theory. These governing equations, subjected to various boundary conditions, are solved using the differential transform method (DTM). The proposed solution technique is validated by comparing computed natural frequencies with existing in literature results and those obtained through three-dimensional finite element analysis in ABAQUS. The incorporation of material gradients into the beam finite element models was achieved through the user-defined material subroutine (UMAT). Additionally, a comprehensive study is conducted to examine the influence of various factors on the natural frequencies of functionally graded beams. These factors include parameters of material laws, types of variable beam shapes, slenderness ratio, and specific boundary conditions. This study provides a thorough understanding of the modal dynamics of the considered beams, offering valuable insights into the behavior of FGM structures.

The presented research article shows a functionally graded lattice as an infill structure in designing a 3D printed mechanical element—a bicycle crank arm. The authors want to answer the fundamental question: whether the functionally graded lattice structures can efficiently improve structural performance and how they can be implemented in real complex components. Intuitively, everyone senses that using such elements must bring profit. A good example might be nature, which commonly reaches for such a solution in the skeletons of animals and humans. Two aspects determine their realisations: the lack of adequate construction and analysis methods and the limitations of existing manufacturing methods. Thus, the authors used relatively simple crank arm design and design exploration methods for structural analysis. The design exploration method enabled us to find the optimum solution efficiently. A developed prototype was created utilising additive manufacturing. One of the 3D printing methods - fused filament fabrication technology for metals, allowed the prototype of a crank arm with the optimised infill to be made. As a result, the authors developed a lightweight and manufacturable crank arm showing the new construction and analysis method implementable in similar 3D printed elements.

Porous structured metallic implants are preferable as bone graft substitutes due to their faster tissue integration mediated by bone in-growth and vascularization. The porous scaffolds/ implants should also mimic the graded structure of natural bone to ensure a match of mechanical properties. This article presents a method to design graded porous structured acetabular implant and identifies the suitable parameters for manufacturing the model through additive manufacturing. The design method is based on slice-wise modification to ensure continuity of gradation. Modification of the slices was achieved through the binary image processing route. A geodesic dome type design was adopted for developing the acetabular cup model from the graded porous structure. The model had a solid shell with the target porosity and pore size gradually changing from 65% and 950 µm, respectively, in the inner side to 75% and 650 µm, respectively, towards the periphery. The required dimensions of the unit structures, and the combinations of pore structure and strut diameter to obtain the target porosity and pore size were determined analytically. Suitable process parameters were identified to manufacture the model by Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) using Ti6Al4V powder after carrying out a detailed experimental study to minimize the variation of surface roughness and warping over different build angles of the strut structures. A dual contour scanning was implemented to simplify the scan strategy. The minimum diameter of struts that could be manufactured using the selected scanning strategy and scanning parameters was found to be 375 µm. Finally, the model was built and from the micro-CT data, the porosities and pore sizes were found to be closely conforming to the designed values. The stiffness of the structures, as found from compression testing, was also found to be well matching with that of human trabecular bone. Further, the structure exhibited compliant bending-dominated behavior under compressive loading.

We propose a new approach to extending the notion of commutator and Lie algebra to algebras with ternary multiplication laws. Our approach is based on ternary associativity of the first and second kind. We propose a ternary commutator, which is a linear combination of six (all permutations of three elements) triple products. The coefficients of this linear combination are the cube roots of unity. We find an identity for the ternary commutator that holds due to ternary associativity of the first or second kind. The form of the found identity is determined by the permutations of the general affine group GA(1,5)⊂S5. We consider the found identity as an analogue of the Jacobi identity in the ternary case. We introduce the concept of a ternary Lie algebra at the cubic root of unity and give examples of such an algebra constructed using ternary multiplications of rectangular and three-dimensional matrices. We point out the connection between the structure constants of a ternary Lie algebra with three generators and an irreducible representation of the rotation group.

Model-based approaches form the basis of the majority of damage detection and localization studies; however, built-in online detection technique can offer an alternative for future structural health monitoring technologies. Thus, in this paper, we present a dynamic localization algorithm for damage localization in functionally graded plates. The method depends on the creation of a grid matrix that contains the dynamic response of the structure over time. Subsequently, an optimization process is carried out via a linear equation representing the information contained within the grid to achieve accurate localization of damage. Due to the inherent sparsity of the localization nature, the FISTA algorithm has been employed as a problem solver. The approach is tested in the case of the functionally graded plate under clamped free boundary conditions. Several, damage scenarios were investigated for the case of damage signals on and off the grid. The results show that the proposed approach is capable of accurately predicting damage position and can be suitable for use in low size data systems.

Single nanowires (NWs) are of great importance for optoelectronic applications, especially solar cells serving as powering nanoscale devices. However, weak off-resonant absorption can limit its light-harvesting capability. Here, we propose a single NW coated with the graded-index dual shells (DSNW). We demonstrate that with appropriate thickness and refractive index of the inner shell, the DSNW exhibits significantly enhanced light trapping compared with the bare NW (BNW), and the NW only coated with the outer shell (OSNW) and the inner shell (ISNW), which can be attributed to the optimal off-resonant absorption mode profiles due to the improved coupling between the reemitted light of the transition modes of the leak mode resonances of the Si core and the nanofocusing light from the dual shells with the graded refractive index. We found that the light absorption can be engineered via tuning the thickness and the refractive index of the inner shell, the photocurrent density is significantly enhanced by 134% (56%, 12%) in comparison with that of the BNW (OSNW, ISNW). This work advances our understanding of how to improve off-resonant absorption by applying graded dual-shell design and provides a new choice for designing high-efficiency single NW photovoltaic devices.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common joint disorder found mostly in elderly people. The role of mechanical behavior in the progression of OA is complex and remains unclear. The stress-relaxation behavior of human articular cartilage in clinically defined osteoarthritic stages may have importance in diagnosis and prognosis of OA. In this study we investigated differences in the biomechanical responses among human cartilage of ICRS grades I, II and III using polymer dynamics theory. We collected 24 explants of human articular cartilage (eight each of ICRS grade I, II and III) and acquired stress-relaxation data applying a continuous load on the articular surface of each cartilage explant for 1180 s. We observed a significant decrease in Young’s modulus, stress-relaxation time, and stretching exponent in advanced stages of OA (ICRS grade III). The stretch exponential model indicated that significant loss in hyaluronic acid polymer might be the reason for the loss of proteoglycan in advanced OA. This work encourages further biomechanical modelling of osteoarthritic cartilage utilizing these data as input parameters to enhance the fidelity of computational models aimed at revealing how mechanical behaviors play a role in pathogenesis of OA.

We apply a well known technique of theoretical physics, known as Geometric Algebra or Clifford algebra, to linear electrical circuits with non-sinusoidal voltages and currents. We rederive from the first principles the Geometric Algebra approach to the apparent power decomposition. The important new point consists in a choice of a natural convenient basis in the Clifford vector space which simplifies considerably the presentation. Thus we are able to derive a number of general results which are missing in the former papers. In particular, a natural correspondence with the Current Physical Components approach is shown.

Clifford algebra is unified language and efficient tool for geometry and physics. In this paper, we introduce this algebra to derive the integrable conditions for Dirac and Pauli equations. This algebra shows the standard operation procedure and deep insights into the structure of the equations. Usually, the integrable condition is related to the special symmetry of transformation group, which involves some advanced mathematical tools and its availability is limited. In this paper, the integrable conditions are only regarded as algebraic conditions. The commutators expressed by Clifford algebra have a neat and covariant form, which are naturally valid in curvilinear coordinate system and curved space-time. For Pauli and Schr\"odinger equation, many solutions in axisymmetric potential and magnetic field are also integrable. We get the scalar eigen equation in dipole magnetic field. By the virtue of Clifford algebra, the physical researches may be greatly promoted.

This manuscript employs a surface stress-driven nonlocal model to explore the combined effects of long-range interaction and surface energy on higher vibration modes of functionally graded nanobeams. The nanobeam theory, based on Bernoulli-Euler kinematics, incorporates surface effects such as surface elasticity, surface residual stresses, surface density, and rotary inertia. Hamilton's principle is applied to derive the governing equation with size-dependent considerations. The main outcomes of a parametric investigation, considering four different kinematic boundary conditions (Cantilever, Simply-Supported, Clamped-Pinned, and Doubly-Clamped) while varying the nonlocal parameter and material gradient index, are presented and discussed. Additionally, the normalized natural frequencies for the second, third, fourth and fifth modes of vibrations are provided and analyzed for each case under study. The results underscore the model's effectiveness in capturing surface energy effects on the overall dynamic behavior of functionally graded Bernoulli-Euler nanobeams, offering a cost-effective approach for designing and optimizing nano-scaled structures.

The influence of applied loads on free vibrations analysis of plates and shells panels made of functionally graded materials is analyzed in the present work. Formulations for the static analysis considering geometrically nonlinear behavior, as well as linear buckling and free vibrations analyses are considered. The calculation of the through-thickness stress distribution is also performed. A finite element model based on a higher order shear deformation theory and using a non-conforming triangular flat plate/shell element with 3 nodes, and 8 degrees of freedom per node is used in the numerical implementation. The results obtained with this numerical model are presented, discussed, and compared with alternative solutions published by other authors in some benchmark applications.

This study investigates the elastic buckling behaviour of skew Functionally Graded Material (FGM) thin plates featuring a circular opening. FGM materials, known for their unique property gradients, have gained prominence in structural engineering due to their mechanical performance and durability. Including a circular opening introduces a critical geometric consideration, influencing the structural stability and load-carrying capacity of FGM plates. The study examines the effects of the skew angle, plate’s aspect ratio, opening position, and size on the critical buckling load, normalized buckling load, and various buckling failure modes through computer modelling and finite element analysis. The results offer valuable insights into the interplay between material heterogeneity, geometric configuration, and structural stability. For instance, the critical buckling load increases by 29%, 82%, and 194% with the increment of skew angle from 0° to 30°, 45°, and 60°, respectively. Moreover, as the opening shifts from the plate’s edge closer to the center, the critical buckling load decreases by 26%. This research contributes to the advancement of understanding FGM thin plates’ behaviour under skew loading conditions, with implications for the design and optimization of innovative structures. The findings presented provide a foundation for further exploration of advanced composite materials and their applications in structural engineering.

Lie algebra plays an important role in the study of singularity theory and other field of sciences. Finding numerous invariants linked with isolated singularities is always a main interest in the classification theory of isolated singularities. Any Lie algebra that characterizes simple singularity produces a natural question. The study of properties such as to find the dimensions of newly defined algebra is a remarkable work. Hussain, Yau and Zuo \cite{HYZ10} have been found a new class of Lie algebra \texorpdfstring{ $ \mathcal{L}_ k (V)$}{LG}, \texorpdfstring{$k\geq 1$}{LG} i.e., Der ($M_{k}(V), M_{k}(V)$) and purposed a conjecture over its dimension $\delta_{k}(V)$ for $k\geq0$. Later they proved it true for $k$ up to $k=1,2,3,4,5$. In this work, the main concern is whether it's true for a higher value of $k$. According to this, we calculate first, the dimension of Lie algebra \texorpdfstring{$\mathcal{L}_ k (V)$}{LG} for $k=6$ and then compute the upper estimate conjecture of fewnomial isolated singularities. Along with, we also justify the inequality conjecture: \texorpdfstring{$\delta_{k+1}(V) < \delta_{k}(V)$}{LG} for $k=6$. Our calculated results are innovative and a new addition to the study of singularity theory.

The Process Algebra model has been shown to provide an alternative mathematical framework for non-relativistic quantum mechanics (NRQM). It reproduces the wave functions of non-relativistic quantum mechanics to a high degree of accuracy. It posits a fundamental level of finite, discrete events upon which the usual entities of NRQM supervene. It has been suggested that the Process Algebra model provides a true completion of NRQM, free of divergences and paradoxes, with causally local information propagation, contextuality and realism. Arguments in support of these claims have been mathematical. Missing has been an ontology of this fundamental level from which the formalism naturally emerges. In this paper it is argued that information and information flow provides this ontology. Higher level constructs such as energy, momentum, mass, spacetime, are all emergent from this fundamental level.

Non-linear loads in circuits cause the appearance of harmonic disturbances both in voltage and current. In order to minimize the effects of these disturbances and, therefore, to control over the flow of electricity between the source and the load, they are often used passive or active filters. Nevertheless, determining the type of filter and the characteristics of their elements is not a trivial task. In fact, the development of algorithms for calculating the parameters of filters is still an open question. This paper analyzes the use of genetic algorithms to maximize the power factor compensation in non-sinusoidal circuits using passive filters, while concepts of geometric algebra theory are used to represent the flow of power in the circuits. According to the results obtained in different case studies, it can be concluded that the genetic algorithm obtain high quality solutions that could be generalized to similar problems of any dimension.

Recently, many authors have been interested to introduce fuzzy implications over t-norms and t-conorms. In this paper, we introduce (S,N) and residuum fuzzy implication for Dubois t-norm and Hamacher's t-norm. Also, new concepts so-called (T,N) and residual fuzzy co-implication in dual Heyting Algebra are investigated. Some examples as well as application are discussed as well.

This paper presents an approach to the vibration analysis of axially functionally graded non-prismatic Timoshenko beams (AFGNPTB) using the finite difference method (FDM). The characteristics (cross-sectional area, moment of inertia, elastic moduli, shear moduli, and mass density) of axially functionally graded beams vary along the longitudinal axis. The Timoshenko beam theory covers cases associated with small deflections based on shear deformation and rotary inertia considerations. The FDM is an approximate method for solving problems described with differential equations. It does not involve solving differential equations; equations are formulated with values at selected points of the structure. In addition, the boundary conditions and not the governing equations are applied at the beam’s ends. In this paper, differential equations were formulated with finite differences, and additional points were introduced at the beam’s ends and at positions of discontinuity (supports, hinges, springs, concentrated mass, spring-mass system, etc.). The introduction of additional points allowed us to apply the governing equations at the beam’s ends and to satisfy the boundary and continuity conditions. Moreover, grid points with variable spacing were also considered, the grid being uniform within beam segments. Vibration analysis of AFGNPTB was conducted with this model, and natural frequencies were determined. Finally, a direct time integration method (DTIM) was presented. The FDM-based DTIM enabled the analysis of forced vibration of AFGNPTB, considering the damping. The results obtained in this study showed good agreement with those of other studies, and the accuracy was always increased through a grid refinement.

In this article, the usual factorials and binomial coefficients have been generalized and extended to the negative integers. Basing on this generalization and extension, a new kind of polynomials has been proposed, which led directly to the non-classical hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials and the non-classical second-order hypergeometric linear DEs. The resulting polynomials can be used in non-relativistic and relativistic QM, particularly, in the case of the Schrödinger equation, and Dirac equations for an electron in a Coulomb potential field.

A method of solution to solve the compressible unsteady 3D Navier-Stokes Equations in cylindrical co-ordinates coupled to the continuity equation in cylindrical coordinates is presented in terms of an additive solution of the three principle directions in the radial, azimuthal and z directions of flow. A dimensionless parameter is introduced whereby in the large limit case a method of solution is sought for in the boundary layer of the tube. A reduction to a single partial differential equation is possible and integral calculus methods are applied for the case of a body force directed to the centre of the tube to obtain an integral form of the Hunter-Saxton equation. Also an extension for a more general body force is shown where in addition there is a rotational force applied.

Spin-orbit coupling and nonparaxiality effects during propagation of vortex vector light beams in a cylindrical graded-index waveguide are investigated by solving the full three-component field Maxwell’s equations. Symmetry breaking effects for left- and right-handed circularly polarized vortex light beams propagating in a rotationally symmetric graded-index optical fiber are considered. The mode-group delay in a graded-index fiber due to spin-orbit interaction is demonstrated. It is shown that the relative delay times between vortex pulses of opposite circular polarizations of the order of 10 ps/km can be observed in graded-index fibers for high-order topological charges.

In the context of cognitive radio, smart city and Internet-of-Things, the need of advanced radio spectrum monitoring becomes crucial. However, surveillance of a wide frequency band without using extremely expensive high sampling rates devices is a challenging task. The recent development of compressed sampling approaches offers a promising solution to these problems. In this context, the Modulated Wideband Converter (MWC), a blind sub-Nyquist sampling system, is probably the most realistic approach and was successfully validated in real-world conditions. The MWC can be realized with existing analog components and there exist calibration methods which are able to integrate the imperfections of the mixers, filters and ADCs, hence allowing its use in real-world. The MWC underlying model is based on signal processing concepts such as filtering, modulation, Fourier series decomposition, oversampling and undersampling, spectrum aliasing, and so on, as well as in-flow data processing. In this paper we develop an MWC model which is entirely based on linear algebra, matrix theory and block processing. We show that this approach has many interests: straightforward translation of mathematical equations into simple and efficient software programming, suppression of some constraints of the initial model, and providing a basis for the development of an extremely fast system calibration method. With a typical MWC acquisition device we obtained a speed up of a factor greater than 20 of the calibration computation time, compared with a previous implementation.

The present article investigates the threshold analysis of yielding in a variable thickness rotating disk based on the Tresca criterion. The analysis is conducted on a Functionally Graded Material (FGM) constructed from tailored materials, following the theory of small deformations and for the case of plane stress. The elasticity modulus, density, and yield stress are assumed to be power functions of the radial coordinate. Poisson’s ratio is considered constant due to small variations in different materials. Additionally, the governing equation for the rotating disk is solved analytically. Besides the material type, another factor affecting the distribution of effective stress magnitudes is the cross-sectional shape (profile) of the disk. The thickness of the cross-sectional disk varies radially as a power function. In the current analysis, different conditions for the onset of yielding and the evolution of plastic flow are considered. For evaluation and validation, the obtained results are compared and validated against similar results for specific cases (homogeneous disk and constant thickness graded disk) available in previous references. The results indicate that considering variable thickness for the disk section significantly affects the stresses and the location of the initiation of yielding

Functionally graded materials (FGM) have attracted considerable attention in the field of composite materials and rekindled interest in research on composite materials, due to their unique mechanical response achieved through material design and optimization. Compared to conventional composites, FGMs offer several advantages and exceptional properties, including improved deformation resistance, improved toughness, lightness properties, and excellent recoverability. This study focused on the production of functionally graded (FG) polymer materials by additive manufacturing (AM) method. FG structures were produced by the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) method using Acrylonitrile benzidine styrene (ABS) and Polylactic acid (PLA) materials and tensile tests were performed according to ASTM D638. The effects of different layer thicknesses, volume ratios, and total thicknesses on mechanical behavior were investigated. In addition, tensile tests were carried out by producing single-layer samples at certain volume ratios to create a numerical model with the Finite element method to verify the experimental data. As a result of this study, it is presented that the FG structure produced with FDM improves mechanical behavior.

Directed energy deposition (DED) is an efficient method to fabricate functionally graded materials (FGMs) with gradient composition and complex structures, allowing for local tailoring of properties instead of the costly need for extraneous welds and joints. In this study, a FGM from stainless steel to Inconel alloy was successfully fabricated using the powder-based laser DED. A very refined grain structure has been observed in at the composition with 75 wt.% Inconel alloy content, which also exhibits the highest (entropy). For the first time, the post heat treatments, microstructure and aging precipitation behaviors of FGMs were systematically studied via experimental characterization and computation, to elucidate their effects on the gradient smoothing and mechanical properties. The diffusion and segregation of Ni, Nb and Ti elements underly the transformation mechanism between Laves, δ, γ’ and γ’’ phases during precipitation. Homogenization on FGMs not only eliminates the heterogeneity inherited from the AM process, but also provides a practical way to smoothen the gradient on composition and microstructure for the eventual good gradient properties. It has a direct influence on the following precipitation behaviors in the FGM, which highly relies on the diffusion degree of the elements in the matrix and grain boundaries. The high-throughput thermodynamic modeling and kinetic modeling were exploited to evaluate the experimental microstructure and address computational uncertainty using different thermodynamic conditions and databases, which enables an accelerated design through local tailoring of process-structure-property relationships to develop new functional materials.

In this paper, we establish the necessary and sufficient conditions for solving a dual split quaternion matrix equation AXB=C, and present the general solution expression when solvability is achieved. As an application, we delve into the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of Hermitian solution to this equation by using a newly defined real representation method. Furthermore, we obtain the solutions for the dual split quaternion matrix equations AX=C and XB=C. Finally, we provide a numerical example to demonstrate the findings of this paper.

The exceptional Jordan algebra is the algebra of $3 \times 3$ Hermitian matrices with octonionic entries. It is the only one from Jordan’s algebraic formulation of quantum mechanics which is not equivalent to the conventional formulation of quantum theory. It has often been suggested that this exceptional algebra could explain physical phenomena not currently explained by the conventional approach, such as values of the fundamental constants of the standard model of particle physics, and their relation to gravitation. We show that this is indeed the case; and this also unravels the connection between general relativity and the weak force. The exceptional Jordan algebra also predicts a new U(1) gravitational interaction which modifies general relativity, and which provides a theoretical basis for understanding the Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND).

In this research, a design method for the graded triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures with lightweight, high-strength, and high sound absorption properties is proposed. The graded TPMS structures are controlled by linear, quadratic, and sine functions. Uniform TPMS and graded TPMS were manufactured by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) with AlSi7Mg powder, and an acoustic impedance tube test, compression test, and digital image correlation (DIC) test were ap-plied to obtain the sound absorption and compression properties. The sound absorption coefficient of a uniform Gyroid increases as the number of layers and surface thickness increase, and it in-creases as element size decreases. The sound absorption peak shifts to low frequencies as the number of layers increases. The sound absorption property of Type-Ⅰ graded TPMS is superior to the Type-Ⅱ, and the G-LinearⅠ has the highest sound absorption properties among the three functions. It reveals that the graded TPMS has superior sound absorption performance at low and medium frequencies. The compression and DIC results of graded TPMS also show excellent mechanical properties and energy absorption characteristics.

In an attempt to improve free-range beef cattle herds and explore the economic viability of utilizing Opuntia ficus-indica (spineless cactus) cladodes as supplementary feed, we investigated the impact of cactus diets on animal growth performance and carcass characteristics of Nguni cattle heifers. Four dietary treatments were randomly assigned to 32 heifers aged 24-months, weighing on average 172.2±27.1 kg, with each dietary treatment replicated to 8 individually penned heifers for 90 days. The dietary treatments were control diet (pasture-based energy + protein sources), 10% cactus diet, 20% cactus diet and commercial diet (crop-based energy and commercial protein source). The heifers fed commercial and control diets attained significantly (P < 0.05) higher dry matter intake, average daily gains, fat thickness, carcass conformation scores and lower feed conversion ratio than those fed cactus diets. However, the final body weight gains, slaughter and carcass weights, rib-eye muscle area and meat pH45 min and 24h were comparable (P > 0.05) between heifers fed cactus diets and those fed commercial and control diets. The 10 and 20% cactus diets had greater gross margins (P < 0.05) of R278.6 and R296.9, respectively than the other diets, due largely to reduced total variable costs. The comparability of carcass traits of heifers fed cactus diets and those fed non-cactus diets as well as higher economic returns from cactus inclusion warrants the use of cactus diets, particularly during drought when commercial feed prices rise.

Free vibration analysis of the porous functionally graded circular plates has been presented on the basis of classical plate theory. The three defined coupled equations of motion of the porous functionally graded circular/annular plate were decoupled to one differential equation of free transverse vibrations of plate. The one universal general solution was obtained as linear combination of the multiparametric special functions for the functionally graded circular and annular plates with even and uneven porosity distributions. The multiparametric frequency equations of functionally graded porous circular plate with diverse boundary conditions were obtained in the exact closed-form. The influences of the even and uneven distributions of porosity, power-law index, diverse boundary conditions and the negligibled effect of the coupling in-plane and transverse displacements on the dimensionless frequencies of the circular plate were comprehensively studied for the first time. The formulated boundary value problem, the exact method of solution and the numerical results for the perfect and imperfect functionally graded circular plates have not yet been reported.

In our study we investigated the additive manufacturing (AM) of ceramic-based Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) by the direct AM technology Thermoplastic 3D-Printing (T3DP). Zirconia components with a varying microstructure were additively manufactured by using thermoplastic suspensions with different contents of pore forming agents (PFA) and were co-sintered defect-free. Different materials were investigated concerning their suitability as PFA for the T3DP process. Different zirconia-based suspensions were prepared and used for AM of single- and multi-material test components. All samples were sintered defect-free and in the end we could realize a brick wall-like component consisting of dense (<1% porosity) and porous (approx. 5% porosity) zirconia areas to combine different properties in one component. The T3DP opens the door to AM of further ceramic-based 4D-components like multi-color or multi-material, especially multi-functional components.

The calculation of power flow in power systems with the presence of harmonics has been properly studied in the scientific literature. However, power flow calculation considering interharmonic components is still an open question. Traditional methods based on the IEEE1459 standard have proven to be valid and accurate only for linear and sinusoidal systems, but have been criticized for non-linear and non-sinusoidal systems because they are not able to explain correctly the current and voltage interactions beyond the active power. This paper proposes the use of a novel mathematical framework called geometric algebra (GA) to study the power flow considering the interaction of current and voltage harmonics and interharmonics. The use of GA enables the precise determination of the direction and magnitude of the total and single active power flow for each component, as well as other power elements related to the non-active power due to cross interaction. Moreover, this paper makes a novel contribution to the definition of interharmonics in geometric algebra space that has not been done before. To test the validity of the method, both linear and non-linear circuits are proposed and solved by applying voltages and currents with harmonic and interharmonic components. The results obtained show that power flow can be analyzed under the prism of the principle of energy conservation (PoCoE) in a way that allows a better understanding of the power spectrum due to the interaction of harmonics and interharmonics of voltage and current.

We propose an $E_8 \otimes E_8$ unification of the standard model with pre-gravitation, on an exceptional Lie algebra-valued space . Each of the $E_8$ has in its branching an $SU(3)$ for space-time and an $SU(3)$ for three fermion generations. The first $E_8$ further branches to the standard model $SU(3)_c \otimes SU(2)_L \otimes U(1)_Y$ and describes the gauge bosons, Higgs and the left chiral fermions of the standard model. The second $E_8$ further branches into a right-handed counterpart (pre-gravitation) $SU(3)_{grav}\otimes SU(2)_R \otimes U(1)_g$ of the standard model, and describes right chiral fermions, a Higgs, and twelve gauge bosons associated with pre-gravitation, from which general relativity is emergent. We account for 208 out of the 496 degrees of freedom of $E_8 \otimes E_8$ and propose an interpretation for the remaining 288, motivated by the trace dynamics Lagrangian of our theory. We explain how the two copies of $SU(3)_{spacetime}$ together give rise to a 6D spacetime with signature $(3,3)$ which upon symmetry breaking gives rise to our 4D spacetime and to a second 4D anti-spacetime with flipped signature.

Incorporating substantial sustainable development issues into teaching and learning is the ultimate task of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The purpose of our study is to identify the confused students who have failed to master the skill(s) given by the tutors as a homework using Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS). We have focused ASSISTments, an ITS in this study and scrutinized the skill-builder data using machine learning techniques and methods. We used seven candidate models that include: Naïve Bayes (NB), Generalized Linear Model (GLM), Logistic Regression (LR), Deep Learning (DL), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), and Gradient Boosted Trees (XGBoost). We trained, validated and tested learning algorithms, performed stratified cross-validation and measured the performance of the models through various performance metrics i.e., ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic), Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F-Measure, Sensitivity & Specificity. We found GLM, DT & RF are high accuracies achieving classifiers. However, other perceptions such as detection of unexplored features that might be related to the forecasting of outputs can also boost the accuracy of the prediction model. Through machine learning methods, we identified the group of students which were confused attempting the homework exercise and can help students foster their knowledge, and talent to play a vital role in environmental development.

Quaternion algebra is used both for the description of the motion of material objects in 4D space-time and for the representation of the energy-momentum density tensor in the same quaternion basis, accurate to some arbitrary scalar fields. Quaternionic generating operators applied repeatedly to the energy-momentum density tensor lead to the gravitomagnetic equations that are parent equations for the series of physical equations ranging from the wave equations up to the quantum mechanical ones. Before finally deducing the gravitomagnetic equations, it is necessary to use the Lorentz gauge at a certain stage to cut off the arbitrary scalar fields. We declare that these superfluous scalar fields, inaccessible to direct observation, represent dark matter and dark energy. We show in what way the dark matter can provide a flat profile of the orbital speed of the galaxy's arm rotations.

The present paper introduces a method of basis transformation of vector fields that is specifically applicable to polynomials space and differential equations with certain polynomials solutions such as Hermite, Laguerre and Legendre polynomials. The method based on separated transformation of vector space basis by a set of operators that are equivalent to the formal basis transformation and connected to it by linear combination with projection operators. Applying the Forbenius covariants yields a general method that incorporates the Rodrigues formula as a special case in polynomial space. Using the Lie algebra modules, specifically , on polynomial space results in isomorphic algebras whose Cartan sub-algebras are Hermite, Laguerre and Legendre differential operators. Commutation relations of these algebras and Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff formula gives new formulas for special polynomials

We have recently proposed a pre-quantum, pre-space-time theory as a matrix-valued Lagrangian dynamics on an octonionic space-time. This pre-theory offers the prospect of unifying the internal symmetries of the standard model with gravity. It can also predict the values of free parameters of the standard model, because these parameters arising in the Lagrangian are related to the algebra of the octonions which define the underlying non-commutative space-time on which the dynamical degrees of freedom evolve. These free parameters are related to the algebra $J_3(\mathbb O)$ [exceptional Jordan algebra] which in turn is related to the three fermion generations. The exceptional Jordan algebra [also known as the Albert algebra] is the finite dimensional algebra of 3x3 Hermitean matrices with octonionic entries. Its automorphism group is the exceptional Lie group $F_4$. These matrices admit a cubic characteristic equation whose eigenvalues are real and depend on the invariant trace, determinant, and an inner product made from the Jordan matrix. Also, there is some evidence in the literature that the groups $F_4$ and $E_6$ could play a role in the unification of the standard model symmetries, including the Lorentz symmetry. The octonion algebra is known to correctly yield the electric charge values (0, 1/3, 2/3, 1) for standard model fermions, via the eigenvalues of a $U(1)$ number operator, identified with $U(1)_{em}$. In the present article, we use the same octonionic representation of the fermions to compute the eigenvalues of the characteristic equation of the Albert algebra, and compare the resulting eigenvalues with the known mass ratios for quarks and leptons. We find that the ratios of the eigenvalues correctly reproduce the [square root of the] known mass ratios for quarks and charged leptons. We also propose a diagrammatic representation of the standard model bosons, Higgs and three fermion generations, in terms of the octonions, exhibiting an $F_4$ and $E_6$ symmetry. In conjunction with the trace dynamics Lagrangian, the Jordan eigenvalues also provide a first principles theoretical derivation of the low energy value of the fine structure constant, yielding the value $1/137.04006$. The Karolyhazy correction to this value gives an exact match with the measured value of the constant, after assuming a specific value for the electro-weak symmetry breaking energy scale.

Due to the difficult metallurgical conditions during production, advanced processing techniques are required to produce functionally graded metal matrix composites. In this study, we explored a novel approach by using a combination of two different methods to produce Functionally Graded 7075 Al / SiCp composites. First process was direct semi-solid stirring that was used to prevent particle agglomeration, brittle reaction products, floating or settling of the reinforcements and poor wettability for the production of SiCp (wt. 5-20%) reinforced aluminum matrix composites. In the direct semi-solid mixing process, the matrix material remains in a semi-solid state until the reinforcement addition process is completed. The second novel process was sequential squeeze casting to provide liquid diffusion between two composite layers that were used to produce functionally graded aluminum matrix composite. The microstructure and interlayer zones were characterized by using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The resulting functionally graded material was subjected to spectrometer analyses, density measurements, and metallographic examinations in order to determine the characteristics of its layers and interfacial zones, as well as to assess the formation of the graded structure. The results obtained from this research provide the potential to use this new combined manufacturing method, which is relatively inexpensive, efficient and easily applicable, in order to produce functionally graded SiCp reinforced aluminum composites.

Construction and demolition waste (CDW) represents 1/3 of the weight of all-waste produced. Increasing their recycling and reutilization with recycled aggregates (RA) means closing the life cycle of construction materials. Research has been carried out on artificial aggregates from the exclusive crushing of structural concrete waste in selective demolitions (CDWRConc). This study analyses the use of recycled concrete as graded aggregate (GARConc) and in cement soil (CSRConc). The material complies with the requirements as a road base, although due to the low values of resistance to fragmentation these materials are adequate for use in sensitive road systems and other places such as urban roads and car parks. The sensitive road systems are infrastructures in places of great natural wealth and low traffic intensity, with an annual average of heavy vehicle traffic (AADTh) below 50 vhp/d. As soluble salt contents have been detected, additional waterproofing or drainage measures must be adopted to prevent water infiltration into the layers made up of CDWRHorm. Finally, the high initial values of UCS allow the temporary passage of light vehicles over CSRConc after 3 days.

In the context of energy conversion from renewable sources to distribution grids (insulated or not), a converter is often required to transfer energy from a low voltage source, towards three-phase grids. This paper presents the HW design, the simulation results and the conversion performance of a CSI converter intended to interface low voltages renevable sources to three-phase grids. The main focus of this paper is to obtain the best performance in terms of voltage increase towards the output stage while maximizing the conversion efficiency. In comparison with the currently used energy conversion systems for small photovoltaic systems, hereafter some solutions were adopted to level and maximize the energy flow from the source to the DC-link and improve the quality of current supplied in terms of harmonic distortion. The proposed system is composed of two conversion stages: the first, voltage-to-current, the second current-to-current via a three-phase CSI bridge modulated with SVM technique. The stages are not completely decoupled from an electrical point of view, therefore, in order to mitigate the effects of these interactions, synchronization strategies have been adopted.

This study examines the relationship between Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and income inequality in Greece across three key periods: the pre-crisis period (2003-2008), the crisis and memoranda period (2009-2014), and the post-crisis period (2015-2020). Using data from the World Bank Open Data database, the study employs correlation analysis, and linear regression models to analyze how economic changes influence income distribution. The findings reveal that during the pre-crisis period, economic growth was moderately correlated with increasing inequality, although this relationship was not statistically significant, indicating uneven distribution of growth benefits. In the crisis period, a strong and statistically significant negative relationship between GDP and the Gini coefficient was identified, highlighting the sharp rise in inequality as the economy contracted due to austerity measures. In the post-crisis period, the relationship between GDP and inequality weakened, showing a statistically insignificant correlation, suggesting that economic recovery alone did not significantly reduce inequality. The study concludes that economic growth is insufficient to address income inequality without targeted policy interventions, particularly during periods of crisis. These findings underscore the importance of comprehensive social policies to mitigate inequality and suggest areas for future research on the impact of specific interventions on income distribution.

This scoping review explores the intersection of Extended Mind Theory and Extended Reality (XR) technologies, focusing on how Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality reshape human cognition and interaction. XR enables users to offload cognitive tasks and engage in embodied experiences, extending cognition beyond the brain into digital environments. The review highlights a wide range of XR applications, from immersive learning in STEM education and medical training, neuropsychological assessment to therapeutic interventions, arts and entertainment, professional skills development, retail and e-commerce, remote work, sports training, architecture and urban planning, and cultural heritage preservation. XR's integration with modalities like haptics, eye-tracking, face- and body-tracking, and brain-computer interfaces further enhances cognitive extension and user engagement. However, alongside these advancements come significant ethical, psychological, and societal challenges, such as data privacy concerns, the psychological effects of prolonged immersion, and social inequality arising from disparate access to XR technologies. This review emphasizes the need for robust ethical frameworks that address these challenges, ensuring that XR technologies enhance human development while maintaining autonomy, privacy, and mental well-being. As XR continues to evolve and integrate with artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, its role in expanding human cognition will depend on responsible implementation and governance.

Background. Sarcopenia is characterized by progressive loss of muscle mass and function. It is often associated with frailty, a syndrome linked to physical disability and shortened survival in various diseases, including cancer patients. Low serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) values, representing low muscle mass (sarcopenia), is a routine blood test that was shown to be associated with increased frailty and subsequently shortened survival in several cancers. In the current study, we aimed to test the association between low ALT and shorter survival in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) patients and survivors. Methods. This was a retrospective analysis of RCC patients and survivors, both in and out-patients. We defined patients with sarcopenia as those presenting with ALT < 17 IU/L. Results. We identified records of 3,012 patients diagnosed with RCC. The final cohort included 1,830 eligible patients (mean age 65.6 ± 13.3 years, 68% were men) of whom only 179 underwent surgical treatment. Out of the eligible cohort, 811 patients (44.3% ( had ALT < 17 IU/L. The mean ALT value of patients within the low ALT group was 11.79 IU/L while the mean value in the higher ALT level group was 24.44 IU/L (p < 0.001). Patients in the lower ALT group were older (67.9 vs. 63.7 years; p < 0.001) and had lower BMI (26.6 vs. 28; p < 0.001). In addition, patients with low ALT had lower hemoglobin values (12.14 vs. 12.91 g/dL; p < 0.001), higher serum creatinine (1.49 vs. 1.14; p < 0.001) and higher platelets to lymphocytes ratio (178 vs. 156; p < 0.001). In a univariate analysis, low ALT levels were associated with a 72% increase in mortality (95% CI 1.46-2.02, P < 0.001). In a multivariate model controlled for age, male gender, hemoglobin, platelets, LDH, neutrophil to lymphocytes ratio and platelets to lymphocytes ratio, low ALT levels were associated with a 27% increase in mortality (HR = 1.27, 95% CI 1.08 – 1.51; p = 0.005]. Conclusion. Low ALT values, indicative of sarcopenia and frailty, are associated with shortened survival of RCC patients and survivors and could potentially be applied for optimizing individual treatment decisions.

Microglial cells are highly specialized central nervous system (CNS) cells that can promote the inflammation and neurodegeneration seen in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is a neurodegenerative autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation, demyelination, and axonal degeneration. In MS patients, demyelination is associated with activated microglia. Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a potent vasoconstrictor that induces severe and prolonged cerebral vasoconstriction and inflammation. However, the mechanism of how ET-1 activates a proinflammatory response in the CNS is unknown. To investigate ET-1’s role in microglia activation, HMC3 cells were treated with ET-1 in the presence or absence of endothelin receptor B antagonist, BQ788. TNFα and IL-6 levels were measured using ELISA. Nitric Oxide (NO) production was measured using Griess Reagent. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was measured using the MUSE Oxidative Stress kit. ET-1 increases TNFα levels by 56% (p= 0.0003) and IL-6 levels by 86% (p= 0.0111) in HMC3 cells, and it was decreased to basal levels in the presence of BQ788. NO and ROS production is induced by ET-1 (p&lt;0.05), and treatment with BQ788 was able to decrease them. ET-1 increases STAT-1 activation by 3.5 folds compared to control (p &lt;0.0001) in microglia cells. Moreover, to study ET-1 levels in MS, we used C57BL/6 mice brains with or without induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). The brain ET-1 levels were measured by qPCR and ELISA. We found that the ET-1 gene and protein were upregulated by 1.5 folds (p= 0.0199) in EAE mice compared to the control. These data suggest that in vitro administration of ET-1-activated microglia significantly increased inflammatory cytokine levels and NO and ROS formation. This novel mechanism of microglial cell activation will provide key information to understand MS pathogenesis.

Often, in biology, we are faced with the problem of exploring relevant unknown biological hypotheses in the form of myriads of combinations of factors/genes/proteins that might be affecting the pathway under certain conditions. In colorectal cancer (CRC) cells treated with ETC-1922159, many genes were found up and down regu- lated, individually. A recently developed search engine ranked combinations of ATP- binding cassette (ABC) transporters-X (X, a particular gene/protein) at 2nd order level after drug administration. These rankings reveal which ABC-X combinations might be working synergistically in CRC. If found true, oncologists can further test the com- bination of interest in wet lab and determine the mechanism of functioning between the ABC and X. In this research work, we cover combinations of ABC with ubiquitin- conjugating enzymes (UBE2), Interleukin (IL), BCL and Caspase (CASP).

Mandible is a bony structure of neuroectodermal origin with unique characteristics that support dentition and jaw movements. In the present study we investigated the effects of gestational exposure to a mixture of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on mandibular growth in mice. The mixture under study (Mixture N1) has been associated with neurodevelopmental effects in both a human cohort and animal studies. Pregnant mice were exposed throughout gestation to 0.5x (times of pregnant women exposure levels), 10x, 100x and 500x of Mixture N1, or the vehicle, and the mandibles of the male offspring were studied in adulthood. Micro-CT analysis showed non-monotonic effects of Mixture N1 in the distances between specific mandibular landmarks and in the crown width of M1 molar, as well as changes in the mandibular bone characteristics. The alveolar bone volume was reduced, and the trabecular separation was increased in the 500X exposed mice. Bone volume in the condyle head was increased in all treated groups. The Alcian blue stained area of pre-hypertrophic chondrocytes in condyle’s head was increased in 0.5x, 10x and 100x groups, while the Safranin-O-stained area of mature hypertrophic chondrocytes was respectively reduced. This is the first indication that prenatal exposure to an epidemiologically defined EDC mixture, associated with neurodevelopmental impacts, can also affect mandibular growth in mammals.

Nanocomposites (NCs) consisting of zero-valent iron nanoparticles (nZVI) immobilized in chitosan (CS) were prepared and employed, for the removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from both synthetic and real wastewater. Medium (MCS) and high (HCS) molecular weight chitosan and stabilization with carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), and different nZVI load were explored. Characterization through Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (SEM-EDS) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) revealed millimeter-sized spheres with micrometer-sized nZVI clusters randomly distributed. Better nanoparticle dispersion was observed in NCs from the CMC-MCS and HCS combinations. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis indicated that CS binds to Fe(II) or Fe(III) on the surface of nZVI through its functional groups -CONH-, -N-H and -C-OH and through the -COO- functional group of CMC, forming a bidentate bridge complex. Through experiments with synthetic waters, it was found that the elimination of Cr(VI) is favored by lowering the pH, obtaining the maximum percentage of Cr(VI) removal at pH 5.5. With real waters, it was shown that increasing the mass of NCs also improves the removal of Cr(VI), following a pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics. The synthesized materials show great potential for applications in environmental remediation, showing good efficiency in the removal of Cr(VI) in wastewater.

Entropy production in stochastic thermodynamics is defined as the average over all the possible system trajectories of a quantity (observable) which measures the divergence between a trajectory and its time-reversal. In this way a quantitative measure of the irreversible evolution of a system out of equilibrium can be given. In this note we consider a Markov system and substitute the linear average with a more general notion of average over the trajectories (Kolmogorov-Nagumo mean) which corresponds to substituting Shannon entropy with Rény entropy. We show that, unlike the linear average case, the resulting notion of entropy production depends on how the observable is defined.

Background/Objectives: Periodontitis (P), a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the supportive tissues around the teeth, is 3 to 4 times more prevalent in individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM), with a direct correlation between its severity and the levels of glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c). This study aimed to evaluate the periodontal clinical parameters following non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) in patients with and without type 2 DM and P. Methods: Forty patients with P were divided into two groups: Group DM/P and Group P. All patients were assessed at baseline, and 90 and 180 days after receiving NSPT. The parameters evaluated included HbA1c levels, plaque index (PI), probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and bleeding on probing (BoP). Statistical analysis was performed with a significance level set at α = 5%. Results: There were significant differences in HbA1c levels between the DM/P and P groups at baseline, 90, and 180 days, as expected. Importantly, HbA1c levels did not change after NSPT. Group P showed a significant reduction in both PI and BoP values at 90 and 180 days (p &lt; 0.05). In contrast, group DM/P demonstrated a significant increase in the percentage of sites with PPD ≥ 5mm at 180 days (p &lt; 0.05). Additionally, group P exhibited an increase in sites with PPD ≤ 4mm and a decrease in sites with PPD ≥ 5mm at both 90 and 180 days (p &lt; 0.05). Conclusions: Our findings suggest that DM may compromise the effectiveness of NSPT, potentially hindering favorable outcomes during the follow-up period.

Automatic Milking Systems (AMS) are revolutionizing the dairy industry by boosting herd effi-ciency, primarily through increased milk yield per cow and reduced labor costs. The performance of milking machines, whether traditional or automated, can be evaluated using advanced vacuum meters through dynamic testing. This process involves scrutinizing the system and milking rou-tine to identify critical points, utilizing the VaDia™ logger (BioControl AS, Rakkestad, NO). Vacuum recordings were downloaded and analyzed using the VaDia Suite™ software under the guidance of a milking specialist. Access to data from AMS across various manufacturers and herds facilitated a retrospective study aimed at describing and comparing key milk emission parameters for different AMS brands while identifying potential mastitis risk factors. Using proper statistical procedures of SPSS 29.1 (IBM Corp, USA), researchers analyzed data from 4,878 individual quarter milkings from cows in 48 dairy herds. Results indicated significant variability in milking pa-rameters associated to quarter milk yield and AMS brand. Notably, despite AMS standardizing teat preparation and stimulation, the study revealed a surprisingly high frequency of two major mastitis risk factors—bimodality and irregular vacuum fluctuations—occurring more frequently than in conventional milking systems. This study, one of the few comparing different AMS brands and their performance, highlights the crucial role of dynamic testing in evaluating AMS perfor-mance under real-world conditions.

Peroxydisulfate activation has garnered a lot of interest due to its benefits of broad adaptability, strong anti-interference ability, and powerful oxidation capacity. Due to their low cost and potent action, carbon materials are new green catalysts that have garnered interest. In order to effectively degrade organic contaminants in water by activating peroxydisulfate, carbon compounds are currently commonly used. Better metal ions for activating peroxydisulfate include Fe2+ and Co2+, and these metal ions can be encapsulated in carbon compounds made by calcinating metal organic framework（MOFs ）as precursors. The synthesis of carbon compounds from MOF precursors as well as their effectiveness and mechanism in reducing organic pollutants in peroxydisulfate systems. The following are the specific research contents: NH2-MIL-101 (Fe/Co) bimetallic MOFs material was synthesized by hydrothermally altering the Fe3+ to Co2+ ratio, followed by the carbonization of Fe/Co-CNs. XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, and XPS were used to analyze the materials' morphology, structure, and chemical make-up. The results demonstrate that Fe/Co-CNs-2 (Co2+ doping concentration approaches 20%) has a stable three-dimensional carbon structure and effectively incorporated Co ions into the carbon material. The simultaneous encapsulation of both Fe and Co metals by the three-dimensional carbon skeleton ensures material stability and reaction activity. Tetracycline hydrochloride was reported to degrade more quickly in Fe/Co-CNs-2 than in other Co2+ doping concentrations within 30 minutes of peroxymonosulfate（PMS） activation. The degradation rate of Fe/Co-CNs-2 for 20 mg/L TC was determined to be 93.34% within 30 minutes under the following conditions: Fe/Co-CNs-2 concentration of 0.1 g/L, PMS concentration of 0.2 g/L, and pH of 7.33. The catalyst also demonstrates good stability. Last but not least, the Fe/Co-CNs-2 free radical quenching experiment revealed that singlet oxygen (1O2) is the primary active species in the reaction system, and a potential mechanism was examined by combining degradation and XPS analysis.

Predicting credit default risk is important to financial institutions, as accurately predicting the likelihood of a borrower defaulting on their loans will help to reduce financial losses, thereby maintaining profitability and stability. Although machine learning models have been used in assessing large applications with complex attributes for these predictions, there is still a need to identify the most effective techniques and to also address the issue of data imbalance. In this research, we conducted a comparative analysis of random forest, decision tree, SVM (Support Vector Machine), XGBoost (eXtreme Gradient Boosting), ADABoost (ADAptive Boosting) and multilayered perceptron with three-hidden layers, to predict credit default using loan data from LendingClub. Additionally, we also combined the model predictions using voting and stacking ensemble methods to enhance the models' performance. Furthermore, various sampling techniques was explored to handle the issue of class imbalance observed in the dataset, with the result showing that the balanced data performs better than the imbalanced data. Our proposed model achieved an accuracy of 93.7%, a precision of 95.6% and a recall of 95.5%, which shows the potential of ensemble methods in improving credit default predictions and can provide lending platforms with the tool to reduce default rates and financial losses. In conclusion, the findings from this study have broader implications for financial institutions, offering a robust approach to risk assessment beyond the Lend-ingClub dataset.

(1) Background: To further investigate the link between inadvertent tooth movements (ITMs) and mechanical properties of different retainers, the response upon vertical loading was compared in three different retainers (two stainless steel and one nickel-titanium). The influence of different reference teeth was also considered. (2) Methods: Three retainers (R1, R2, R3) were tested in a newly developed biomechanical analysis system (FRANS). They were bonded to 3D-printed models of the lower anterior jaw and vertically displaced up to 0.3mm. Developing forces and moments were recorded at the center of force. (3) Results: The vertical displacement caused vertical forces (Fz) and labiolingual moments (My) to arise. These were highest in the lateral incisors (up to 2.35±0.59N and 9.27±5.86Nmm for R1; 1.69±1.06N and 7.42±2.65Nmm for R2; 3.28±1.73N and 15.91±9.71Nmm for R3) for all analyzed retainers, and with the R3 retainer for all analyzed reference teeth, while the lowest Fz and My values were recorded with the R1 retainer. (4) Conclusions: Displacements of 0.2mm and larger provided forces and moments which could be sufficient to cause unwanted torque movements, such as ITMs in all analyzed retainers. Clinicians must be mindful of these risks and perform posttreatment checkups on patients with retainers of all materials.

The fundamental period is one of the most important parameters for the design of new structures , as well as the estimation of the capacity of existing ones. However, its calculation requires the solution of an eigenvalue problem. Especially for new buildings, this can involve material and geometric parameters that are not known beforehand. Thus, to estimate it, various design codes and researchers have adopted a several approximate analytical equations based on a number of key structural parameters. To this end, the present study introduces a novel methodology for the derivation of analytical equations for the fundamental period of Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures. The methodology is based on Machine Learning (ML) explainability techniques and specifically the so-called SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) values. The novel methodology allows these equations to be constructed sequentially and in an informed manner, controlling the balance between accuracy and complexity. An extended dataset comprised of 4026 data points is employed. The results showed excellent accuracy, with a coefficient of determination R2≈0.95. This demonstrates the potential applicability of the proposed methodology in a wide array of similar engineering challenges.

Estrogen receptor α (ERα) is a nuclear hormone receptor that mediates the biological effects of estrogen and is known to be phosphorylated at multiple sites. Despite several reports highlighting serine-167 (S167) of ERα as a common phosphorylation site for various kinases, there have been contradictory data regarding its relevance in the context of ERα-expressing luminal A breast cancer. In this study, we show that S167 is targeted by the oncogenic PIM family kinases in these cells. Loss of PIM expression or catalytic activity reduces S167 phosphorylation and restricts ERα signaling, while PIM overexpression has the opposite effect. Nonetheless, we found no evidence that PIMs protect breast cancer cells from ERα blockade, as both PIM protein levels and ERα S167 phosphorylation levels were substantially lower in populations of cells that had developed tamoxifen resistance as compared to untreated cells. However, this does not rule out the possibility that PIMs provide protection against ERα-targeting therapies in such breast cancer cells in which they are overexpressed, warranting further investigations.

Key components foundational to its structure include the infrastructure layer for hardware and network support, the human interface layer utilizing virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) devices, and a decentralized layer leveraging blockchain for secure digital asset management. Further components encompass spatial computing for realistic 3D environments, the creator economy for content generation and monetization, and discovery mechanisms for navigation within Metaverse. VR, AR, blockchain, AI, the fifth-generation (5G) networks, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are central to Metaverse functionality, enabling real-time interactions and data integration. Real-Time Metaverse aims to replicate instantaneous real-world interactions, requiring advanced technological infrastructure for seamless data exchange. Critical challenges include ensuring low latency, high bandwidth, scalability, and robust security measures. Metaverse’s potential spans various domains, promising to revolutionize social interactions, entertainment, workplaces, and education through dynamic, immersive experiences. Ongoing advancements in high-performance computing, cloud services, and AI-driven technologies are essential for addressing existing barriers and achieving a cohesive, secure, and inclusive Metaverse ecosystem. Future research must focus on enhancing user experience, accessibility, and standardized interoperability to fully realize the transformative capabilities of a Metaverse.

Often, in biology, we are faced with the problem of exploring relevant unknown biological hypotheses in the form of myriads of combinations of factors/genes/proteins that might be affecting the pathway under certain conditions. In colorectal cancer (CRC) cells treated with ETC-1922159, many genes were found up and down regu- lated, individually. A recently developed search engine ranked combinations of BCL-X (X, a particular gene/protein) at 2nd order level after drug administration. These rank- ings reveal which BCL-X combinations might be working synergistically in CRC. If found true, oncologists can further test the combination of interest in wet lab and deter- mine the mechanism of functioning between the BCL and X. In this research work, we cover combinations of BCL with Interleukin (IL), Selenbp1, TP53, caspase (CASP), mucin (MUC) and exosome (EXOSC).

The capability of large food retail chains to respond quickly to changes in consumer behaviour and their dominant market position affects all food market players and often conflicts with the interests of national food producers, which can reduce the presence of locally sourced products in the food product mix in the country. In Latvia, there have been several proposals to limit retailers' opening hours on weekends and public holidays to increase the viability of small local food producers, retailers, and catering enterprises; however, limiting retailers' opening hours without research-based arguments is unacceptable. The research studies conducted in Europe also do not give a unified conclusion. Household consumer behaviour in the food market is viewed as an essential argument for increasing domestic demand and economic stability. Accordingly, the present research aims to identify the impacts of diversification of opening hours of food supermarkets on consumer shopping habits and the implications for creating an advantage for small and medium agri-food producers in selling their products. The research applied a quantitative approach to identify the main trends in society (n=2738), with a survey including 31 variables to quantify consumer behaviour, values, and opinions and seven socio-demographic variables. If a decision were made in Latvia to close grocery shops on Sundays or reduce their opening hours on weekends, 85% of consumers indicated that they would be unlikely to change their usual shopping location and would plan to shop at a supermarket on other days. The choice between farmers' markets and local food shops on Sundays would be made by 45% of consumers, with more than half (53%) of them shopping at local food shops at least a few times a month. It could, therefore, be argued that reducing the opening hours of supermarkets and closing them on Sundays and public holidays do not provide a competitive advantage and do not divert consumers to small and medium agri-food producers.

Muscle ultrasound quantification is a valuable complementary diagnostic tool for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). DPN significantly impacts the lives of individuals with diabetes, leading to pain, lower limb amputation, and disability, affecting patient quality of life. This work develops a computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) system based on muscle ultrasound that integrates the bag of features (BOF) and an ensemble subspace k-nearest neighbour (KNN) algorithm for DPN detection. The BOF creates a histogram of visual word occurrences to represent the muscle ultrasound images and trains an ensemble classifier through cross-validation, determining optimal parameters to improve classification accuracy for the ensemble diagnosis system. The dataset includes ultrasound images of six muscles from 53 subjects, consisting of 27 control and 26 patient cases. An empirical analysis was conducted for each binary classifier based on muscle type to select the best vocabulary tree properties or K values for BOF. The result indicates that ensemble subspace KNN classification, based on the bag of features, achieved an accuracy of 97.23%. This study suggests muscle ultrasound as a promising diagnostic tool with the potential for image recognition and interpretation. CAD systems can accurately diagnose muscle pathology, helping to overcome limitations and identify issues in individuals with diabetes.

Wave and tidal energy, recognized as vital renewable resources, harness the ocean's kinetic and potential power. This study aims to provide an in-depth patent analysis of the technological landscape within these sectors. We applied a dual approach: first, a descriptive analysis was conducted to explore patent publication trends, technology lifecycle stages, patent activity by country, top assignees, and IPC classifications. Our analysis provided a detailed overview of the sector's growth and the key players involved. Second, we utilized topic modeling, specifically BERTopic enhanced with large language models (LLMs), to identify and fine-tune key technolog-ical themes within the patent data. In this study, we identified seven distinct clusters each for wave and tidal energy using this approach. This method led to a novel categorization of the pa-tents, revealing latent themes within the patent data. Although our categorization differs from traditional methods, it provides deeper insights into the thematic focus of the patents, highlight-ing emerging trends and areas of innovation within wave and tidal energy technologies to better exploit and optimize ocean energy conversion infrastructure.

Background/Objectives: Nephrolithiasis is a common urologic condition and a significant source of patient morbidity and healthcare expenditure. Despite the higher prevalence of metabolic risk factors for nephrolithiasis among Black women, there have been few epidemiologic studies of kidney stones focusing on this group. Methods: We describe demographic and health characteristics, diagnostic, and metabolic profiles of women with self-reported kidney stones among participants in the Black Women’s Health Study (BWHS), a large prospective cohort of U.S. Black women. Results: Among the 2,750 BWHS participants who completed an online supplemental questionnaire assessing urologic health, 201 women reported nephrolithiasis. Of this number, 62% had completed ≥16 years of education and 82% reported access to health care. Overall, 39% reported experiencing ≥2 stones in their lifetime and 29% required surgery to treat the condition. Thirty-two percent reported having completed a metabolic evaluation, while 70% had undergone a CT-scan to diagnose nephrolithiasis. The frequency of metabolic evaluation increased with the number of metabolic components reported: 3% (0 components) to 43% (3-4 components). Conclusions: Our findings are consistent with reports of lower rates of metabolic evaluation among Black patients despite their having multiple risk factors for nephrolithiasis. Further study is needed to identify the barriers and facilitators of metabolic and diagnostic workup of nephrolithiasis in Black women.

Polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) have garnered significant interest due to their potential in drug delivery. Specifically, nanopolymers functionalized with molecules such as proteins or peptides serve as versatile vehicles for this purpose. Curcumin (Cur) is a widely studied anticancer compound known for its positive effects on human health. Nevertheless, its insolubility and low bio-distribution hinder the exploitation of its beneficial traits. In this study, our team developed a nanodelivery system using a nanopolymer called poly(ε-caprolactone)-poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL-PEG), functionalized with A6 peptide to enable targeted delivery of Cur. The designed system exhibited favorable characteristics, including a stable zeta potential of -13.8 mV, a small size of 76.4 nm, uniform surface morphology, and high hydrophilicity with a contact angle of 31.53°. Additionally, the targeted delivery system demonstrated high encapsulation efficiency (EE%) (93 ± 0.89%), drug loading (DL%) (16.7 ± 0.9%), and a slow and gradual release profile with a release of approximately 83.1 ± 0.12%. The MTT assay results showed significant cell death in MDA-MB-231 cancer cells (IC₅₀ = 21.3 ± 1.57 µM) when treated with the Cur-NPs-A6 formulation, while the toxicity of the designed NPs was reduced on non-cancerous MCF-10A cells. Moreover, both the RT-qPCR and invasion assays demonstrated the system's effectiveness in activating apoptosis pathways and inhibiting cell invasion. These findings suggest that the engineered intelligent delivery system, equipped with the A6 peptide, which has a strong affinity for CD44 (a protein with increased expression in malignancy), could be an exceptionally effective strategy for cancer treatment.

In this paper, the distribution of prime numbers is expressed based on proving the Riemann hypothesis. The relationship between three numbers, three, six, and nine, and the modality to the distribution of prime numbers, is one of the results of Riemann's zeta function. Prime numbers are classified into six groups of single-digit numbers. There are no prime numbers in groups of three, six, and nine. The groups are made based on the sum of the internal digits. And for each set, there is an angle in the complex plane. The distance between the prime numbers in each group has a regular pattern. This pattern is a multiple of the numbers three, six, and nine. According to Euler's number, for an angle of 60 degrees, the real part of the cosine is 1/2. Accordingly, all prime numbers are related to angles greater than 60 degrees to 90 degrees. As a result, based on the relationship between the golden spiral and the complex conjugate of the zeta function, the function in The 1/2 point becomes zero based on the prime numbers.

The continues evolution of coronaviruses has gained considerable attention prior to the outbreak of COVID 19. Although, COVID-19 is currently not recognized as a global pandemic, the virus's ability to evolve and cause disease outbreaks in both humans and animals necessitates ongoing research into its genetic and structural characteristics. Therefore, understanding the molecular origin, rapid evolution, as were as the immunogenicity of coronaviruses is a critical step towards preparing for and preventing future outbreaks. This study aimed to uncover the genetic diversity and evolutionary relationships among the main viral proteins of SARS-CoV-2 and other related coronaviruses. Amino acid sequences of structural viral proteins spike glycoprotein, nucleocapsid protein, membrane protein, and envelope protein were retrieved from the NCBI database for SARS-CoV-2 and 13 other coronaviruses. Here, we identified that SARS-CoV-2 is closely related to BatCoV RaTG13 and Pangolin-CoV, suggesting their potential role in the emergence of the virus. Additionally, we predicted novel epitopes, glycosylation sites, and cleavage sites, identifying three novel glycosylation sites (NATR, NXSN, and NGTK) and six new CTL epitopes (XSNQVAVLY, NSFTRGVYY, NATRFASVY, STQDLFLPF, NSASFSTFK, and ASFSTFKCY). Our comparative analysis revealed that BatCoV RaTG13 has the closest cleavage site to SARS-CoV-2, with significant similarities also observed with Pangolin-CoV. The study highlighted the unique features of SARS-CoV-2, including its furin cleavage site, which may account for its high infectivity during the pandemic. These findings contribute to the understanding of SARS-CoV-2 evolution and its relationship with other coronaviruses, providing critical insights for the development of broad-spectrum vaccines and antiviral therapies.
