This research article investigates the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in human resource management (HRM) within the Australian commercial media sector, addressing a critical gap in scholarly knowledge. Despite increasing interest in AI’s potential, there is a lack of consensus among managers and HR professionals regarding its application. Through qualitative interviews with 22 industry professionals, this study examines perceptions, understanding, and the potential for leveraging AI across key HRM functions. Findings indicate significant potential for AI to enhance HRM processes, particularly in job/work design and staffing. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of AI’s role in HRM and offers insights to optimize organizational efficiency and effectiveness in the Australian commercial media sector.

Background: Synovial sarcoma is a rare soft tissue tumor that constitutes 5-10% of all soft tissue sarcomas. Early diagnosis and risk stratification are essential for effective management. This study leverages machine learning models to improve the risk stratification of mortality in synovial sar-coma patients. Methods: This retrospective cohort study utilized data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to analyze patients diagnosed with synovial sarcoma between 2004 and 2015, as well as a validation cohort diagnosed from 2018 onward. The dataset encompassed demographic data, clinical characteristics, staging, treatment modalities, and outcomes. Four ma-chine learning models—support vector classifier (SVC), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), Gaussian naive Bayes, and gradient boosting—were trained and evaluated. Model performance was assessed using sensitivity, specificity, AUC-ROC, and Brier score. SHAP analysis was performed to determine the most influential features impacting model predictions. The top-performing model was validated using the 2018+ cohort. Results: The study included a total of 762 patients, with an average age of 39.4 years. The support vector classifier (SVC) outperformed the other models, achieving an AUC-ROC of 0.8153 (95% CI: 0.7578 to 0.8677) and a Brier score of 0.1715. Upon external validation with the 2018+ cohort, the SVC model yielded an AUC-ROC of 0.8179 (95% CI: 0.7632 to 0.8666). Key prognostic factors identified through SHAP analysis included tumor size, patient age, presence of metastasis, tumor differentiation, and cancer stage. Conclusion: Machine learning models can be used to stratify the risk of death in synovial sarcoma patients effectively, with the support vector classifier showing the most promise.

The article focusses on detecting the unbalance of a mechanical component in the electric drive system of a two-mass servomechanism with a PMSM motor, which is connected to the load via a long, flexible shaft. In the example analysed, the degree of unbalance was determined using the reference current signal from the speed controller of the FOC control system. The authors pre-sented a two-mass model with an unbalanced mechanical system. The STFT transform was used to analyse the symptoms of unbalance and an artificial neural network MLP was used for system state inference. The effectiveness of the presented analysis, based on the reference current signal from the sensor embedded in the control system, was experimentally confirmed.

Artificial intelligence (AI) apps, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Siri, have taken society and higher education institutions by storm. Yet, there is a paucity of empirical studies recording and analysing university social sciences students’ attitudes toward AI. Hence, the present study draws upon a sample of 190 university students (82.45% female) from a Greek social sciences department to query what are the students’ attitudes toward AI in education and future employment and what factors correlated with these attitudes. Descriptive statistics revealed that students’ attitudes toward AI were mostly positive. A principal components analysis confirmed a three-component solution of attitudes toward AI, comprising cognitive, behavioural, and emotional dimensions. Comparative analysis of the three components indicated that the emotional dimension was the highest ranked, followed by the cognitive and behavioural dimensions. Pairwise correlation analyses revealed that the strongest correlate of cognitive, behavioural, and emotional components of attitudes toward AI was the future frequency of AI use, followed by general feelings of safety with technology. In conclusion, students display more emotional and cognitive favourable dispositions toward AI. The social background of the students and the prospective future use of AI play a key role in the formulation of attitudes toward AI. University educators need to provide more teaching and learning about AI to improve students’ attitudes toward AI and future AI use.

This ambitious research project seeks to revolutionize sustainable glucose production by harnessing solar energy for the conversion of atmospheric gases. The process involves water collection, electrolysis for hydrogen and oxygen production, PDMS membrane-based CO2 collection, CO2 splitting, formaldehyde generation, and the synthesis of glucose/sucrose. Key innovations include the strategic application of PDMS membranes with varying pore sizes and non-reactive chemical layers to facilitate selective permeability for specific gases. Our goal is to create a cost-effective, eco-friendly glucose production method, paving the way for renewable and sustainable energy solutions.

The energy sector relies on numerical model output forecasts for operational purposes on a short-term scale, up to 10 days ahead. Reducing model errors is crucial, particularly given that coarse resolution models often fail to account for complex topography, such as that found in Costa Rica. Local circulations affect wind conditions at the level of wind turbines, thereby impacting wind energy production. This work addresses a specific need of the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) as a public service provider for the energy sector. The developed and implemented product in this study serves as a proof of concept that could be replicated by WMO Members. It demonstrates a product for wind speed forecasting at wind power plants by employing a novel strategy for input selection based on large-scale indicators to enhance Artificial Intelligence-based forecasting methods. The product is developed and implemented based on the full-value chain framework for weather, water, and climate services for the energy sector introduced by the WMO. The results indicate a reduction of wind forecast RMSE by approximately 55% compared to the GFS grid values. The conclusion is that combining coarse model outputs with regional climatological knowledge through AI-based downscaling models is an effective approach for obtaining reliable local short-term wind forecasts up to 10 days ahead.

Architectural visualization is a crucial aspect of architectural design and communication. With the development of science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI) technology is increasingly becoming an essential tool for architectural visualization and communication. The emergence of AI technology has provided architects with more flexible and creative ways to present design ideas. All along, designers who love architecture have been passionate about exploring better solutions for architecture, but there is never an optimal solution for architectural design; AI is the fire of the future era; it brings us more opportunities but also forces us to face new challenges from the future.

This paper introduces an innovative approach that enables automated and precise prediction of the steel's chemical composition based on the desired Jominy curve. The microstructure, and in fact the presence of martensite, is decisive for the hardness of the steel, so the study considered the occurrence of this phase at particular distances from the quenched-end of the Jominy sample. Steels for quenching and tempering and case hardening were investigated. With representative collected dataset of hardness values from quenched-end of Jominy specimen, microstructure and chemical composition of steels, the complex regression model was made using supervised artificial neural networks. The balance between cost and required hardenability can be achieved through optimizing the chemical composition of steel. This model of designing steel with required hardenability can be of great benefit in the mechanical engineering and manufacturing industry. The model is verified experimentally.

Civil construction is one of the oldest known activities in humanity, reports indicate that builders of the Roman Empire already sought the reuse of materials. Currently, considering the depletion of the supply of natural resources, the recycling of solid waste from construction and demolition (CDW), not only provides new products, but also offers ecological and economic alternative. In this context, this research seeks new variables for the disposal of waste from construction and demolition having in the composition of artificial finishing stones an odd possibility to be analyzed. In this research was developed and analyzed a new composite from the construction and demolition waste using as a binder an orthophthalic polyester resin. The residue was sieved and separated by granulometry by the simplex centroid method, the best compacted mixture was determined statically by ANOVA and the Tukey test. The residue was characterized by X-ray fluorescence and the resin by infrared spectroscopy by Fourier transform. Artificial rock plates were produced with 85% residue and 15% resin, by mass, by vibro system, compression and vacuum, later were cut for mechanical, physical and chemical tests. Analysis was performed by scanning electron microscopy of fractured compositions as well as grain sizes. The artificial stone with the best results presented density of 2,256 g/cm3, water absorption of 0.69%, apparent porosity of 1.55%; bending strength of 34.74 MPa and compression of 111.96 MPa; good results in the alterability and thermal tests. In this satisfactory scenario, the use of this waste in the composition of artificial rocks is promising because it directly meets the concept of sustainable development; replacing the concept of end-of-life of the linear economy, by new circular flows of reuse, restoration and renovation, in an integrated process the circular economy; as well as the quality of the final product with properties similar to the artificial rocks already marketed.

This comprehensive review explores the pathophysiology, incidence, risk factors, clinical presentation, diagnosis, prevention strategies, management approaches, complications, and long-term effects of extravasation in cancer patients. It also outlines future directions and research opportunities, including identifying gaps in current knowledge and proposing areas for further investigation in extravasation prevention and management. Emerging technologies and therapies with the potential to improve extravasation prevention and management in both chemotherapy and radiotherapy are highlighted. Such innovations include advanced vein visualization technologies, smart catheters, targeted drug delivery systems, novel topical treatments, and artificial intelligence-based image analysis. By addressing these aspects, this review not only provides healthcare professionals with insights to enhance patient safety and optimize clinical practice but also underscores the importance of ongoing research and innovation in improving outcomes for cancer patients experiencing extravasation events.

Background: Malnutrition commonly affects patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), which contributes to worsening prognosis. Moreover, specific strategies for diagnosing and managing malnutrition in OSCC are lacking. Methods: This retrospective study included 52 consecutive patients with OSCC who underwent surgery at the University Hospital of Palermo (I) from Jan 2020 to May 2023. In-hospital nutritional support was provided by a dedicated team. The patients were compared with a historical control group of 11 patients. The nutritional treatment consisted of standard oral (ON) or artificial nutrition (AN). Traditional measurements, including bioimpedance-derived body composition and volumetric reconstruction of the posterior paraspinal muscles at the C3 level based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI-C3), were obtained in 16 patients to investigate sarcopenia. Results: The patients were categorized according to TNM stage: groups A (TNM stages I-III) and B (IVa-IVc). Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to computer algorithms that replicate the cognitive function of humans. Machine learning is widely applicable using structured and unstructured data, while deep learning is derived from the neural networks of the human brain that process and interpret information. During the last decades, AI has been introduced in several aspects of healthcare. In this review, we aim to present the current application of AI in the neonatal intensive care unit. AI-based models have been applied to neurocritical care, including automated seizure detection algorithms and electroencephalogram-based hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy severity grading systems. Moreover, AI models evaluating magnetic resonance imaging contributed to the progress of the evaluation of the neonatal developing brain and the understanding of how prenatal events affect both structural and functional network topologies. Furthermore, AI algorithms have been applied to predict the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and assess the extubation readiness of preterm neonates. Automated models have been also used for the detection of retinopathy of prematurity and the need for treatment. Among others, AI algorithms have been utilized for the detection of sepsis, the need for patent ductus arteriosus treatmnet, the evaluation of jaundice, and the detection of gastrointestinal morbidities. Finally, AI prediction models have been constructed for the evaluation of the neurodevelopmental outcome and the overall mortality of neonates. Although the application of AI in neonatology is encouraging, further research in AI models is warranted in the future including retraining clinical trials, validating the outcomes, and addressing serious ethics issues.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of dental caries segmentation on the panoramic radiographs taken from children in primary dentition, mixed dentition, and permanent dentition with an Artificial Intelligence (AI) models developed using the deep learning method. Methods: This study used 6075 panoramic radiographs taken from children aged between 4 and 14 to develop the AI model. The radiographs included in the study were divided into three groups as primary dentition (n: 1857), mixed dentition (n: 1406), and permanent dentition (n: 2812). U-Net model implemented with PyTorch library was used for segmentation of caries lesions. Confusion matrix was used to evaluation of model performance. Results: In the primary dentition group, the sensitivity, precision and F1 scores calculated using the confusion matrix were found to be 0.8525, 0.9128, and 0.8816, respectively. In the mixed dentition group, the sensitivity, precision, and F1 scores calculated using the confusion matrix were found as 0.7377, 0.9192, and 0.8185, respectively. In the permanent dentition group, the sensitivity, precision, and F1 scores calculated using the confusion matrix were found as 0.8271, 0.9125, and 0.8677, respectively. In the total group including primary, mixed, and permanent dentition, the sensitivity, precision and F1 score calculated using the confusion matrix were 0.8269, 0.9123 and 0.8675, respectively. Conclusion: Deep learning-based AI models are promising tools for the detection and diagnosis of caries in panoramic radiographs taken from children in different dentitions.

Integrating AI algorithms in treatment protocols promises individualized and optimized therapeutic strategies for better management of glaucoma. This comprehensive review elucidates AI applications' current state and future directions in transforming glaucoma care, emphasizing the potential benefits of improving patient outcomes.

Screening for DR is important but many patients do not attend; (2) Methods: We validated an algorithm for predicting DR and its progression by conducting a retrospective study of 11 children in a population of 120,389 T2DM (3) Results: By applying the algorithm to the population showed an AUC of 0.93 (95% CI, 0.92–0.94) for any-DR and 0.90 (95% CI, 0.89–0.91) for referable-DR(4) Conclusions: The algorithm is useful for predicting patients who could develop referable forms of DR and also for any-DR. This would allow a personalized screening plan to be drawn up for each patient.

Employing a qualitative case study approach, enriched by in-depth interviews and comprehensive literature reviews, we identify three main domains for potential AI expansion: scheduling efficiency, clinical documentation, and AI-driven medical research. Our results underscore the substantial enhancements AI brings to operational workflows and patient care, notably through improved scheduling systems, accuracy in medical documentation, and the facilitation of data-driven research methodologies. These findings suggest a critical need for healthcare institutions to further invest in AI technologies, focusing on these key areas to harness AI's full potential in personalizing care, optimizing efficiency, and advancing medical knowledge. The study concludes with a call for continued investigation into AI's integration within healthcare settings, emphasizing the importance of a supportive organizational infrastructure, ethical considerations, and data security in realizing AI's transformative impact on healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

(1) Background: Although diagnostic criteria for massive hemorrhage with organ dysfunction such as disseminated intravascular coagulation associated with delivery have been empirically established based on clinical findings, strict logic has yet to be used to establish numerical criteria. (2) Methods: A dataset of 107 deliveries with ≥2,000 g of blood loss, among 13,368 deliveries from nine national perinatal centers in Japan between 2020 and 2023 was obtained. Twenty-three patients had fibrinogen levels <170 mg/dl, which is the initiation of coagulation system failure per our previous reports. Three of these patients had hematuria. We used six machine learning methods to identify the borderline criteria dividing the fibrinogen/fibrin/fibrinogen degradation product (FDP) planes, using 15 coagulation fibrinolytic factors. (3) Results: The boundaries of hematuria development on a two-dimensional plane of fibrinogen and FDP were obtained. If the FDP–fibrinogen/3–60 (mg/dl) value is positive, this indicates hematuria; otherwise, the case is non-hematuria, as demonstrated by the support vector machine method that seemed the most appropriate. (4) Conclusions: The borderline criterion dividing the fibrinogen/FDP plane for patients with hematuria that could be considered organ dysfunction in massive hemorrhage during delivery was obtained using artificial intelligence, and this method seemed to be useful.

The paper outlines a methodology for developing a model to estimate energy consumption in electric vehicles (EVs). The most robust validation indicators were exhibited by an artificial intelligence method, specifically neural networks. Within this framework, two predictive models for EV energy consumption were developed for winter and summer conditions, based on actual driving cycles. Such models hold particular significance for microscale road analyses. The resultant model for test data in summer conditions demonstrates validation indicators with an R2 of 86% and an MSE of 1.4, while for winter conditions, the values are 89% and 2.8, respectively, confirming its high precision. The paper also presents exemplary applications of the developed models, utilizing both real and simulated microscale data. The results obtained and the presented methodology can be especially advantageous for decision-makers in city road management and infrastructure planners, aiding both cognitive understanding and better planning of charging infrastructure networks.

This paper comprehensively considers the key role of AI technology in the field of climate change mitigation, such as climate modeling, the optimization of renewable energy systems, the development of intelligent solutions for sustainable practices and CSS technology, and affirms its future prospects. It also describes the challenges of AI in the field of climate change mitigation. As researchers, policymakers, and industries collaborate to refine AI methodologies and integrate them into practical applications, a concerted effort is required to establish ethical guidelines, transparency standards, and inclusive governance frameworks.

As artificial intelligence takes an increasingly prominent role in healthcare, a growing body of research is being dedicated to its application in the investigation of communication sciences and disorders (CSD). This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of AI-based research in the field of CSD published up to December 2023. Utilizing the Web of Science and Scopus databases, we identified 15,035 publications, with 4,375 meeting our inclusion criteria. From 1985 onwards, there has been a consistent annual increase in publications, averaging at 16.51%, notably surging from 2012 to 2023. The primary communication disorders studied include autism, dysarthria, dementia, Parkinson’s, and aphasia. Noteworthy AI techniques employed in CSD research encompass machine learning, automatic speech recognition, support vector machine, and deep learning. Our analysis provides a comprehensive overview, serving as a valuable resource for researchers, developers, and professionals seeking to comprehend the evolving landscape of AI in CSD research. Moving forward, collaborative efforts need to prioritize addressing ethical concerns, ensuring data privacy, enhancing methodological enhancements, and considering ecological validity in the application of AI in studies related to communication disorders.

This study focuses on predicting traffic speed using the simple Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) model, despite the availability of various models for traffic prediction, with artificial intelligence demonstrating superior predictive capabilities. Emphasizing that the quality of the data holds greater significance than the model itself, the research underscores the challenges posed by data containing significant errors and fluctuations. Unlike relying solely on criteria such as Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) or coefficient of determination (r2), this study advocates for the use of MAD/range as a more robust metric for prediction accuracy, especially when dealing with data exhibiting substantial order.The study sets the speed limit and traffic value at 0.65 and 0.88, respectively. Notably, both criteria yield identical accuracy results of 13% for MAD/R in predicting speed and 14% for traffic. This parity suggests that the artificial intelligence model performs equally well for both variables, highlighting the importance of considering alternative evaluation metrics in the face of data complexities.

Employing a systematic mapping study, this paper reviews research about AI Sustainability from diverse fields and viewpoints, including three dimensions economic, social, and environmental. Our analysis indicates a transformative shift in research focus, evolving from fragmented approaches to a more holistic understanding of AI Sustainability. This maturation is reflected in the interplay between multiple dimensions and the integration of both "AI as a tool for sustainability" and "Sustainability of AI" perspectives. As the field continues to mature, researchers should embrace a comprehensive and unbiased exploration of AI Sustainability across all dimensions and approaches, ensuring a well-rounded foundation for future advancements in this rapidly evolving domain.

Public health is an important aspect of community activities, making research on health necessary because it is a crucial field in maintaining and improving the quality of life in society as a whole. Research in public health allows for a deeper understanding of the health problems faced by a population, including disease prevalence, risk factors and other determinants of health. This work aims to explore the potential of hospital patient data analysis as a valuable tool for understanding community implications and deriving insights for effective community health interventions. The study recognises the significance of harnessing the vast amount of data generated within hospital settings to inform population-level health strategies. The methodology employed in this study involves the collection and analysis of deidentified patient data from a representative sample of a hospital in Indonesia. Various data analysis techniques, such as statistical modelling, data mining and machine learning algorithms, are utilised to identify patterns, trends and associations within the data. A program written in Python is used to analyse patient data in a hospital for five years from 2018 to 2022. These findings are then interpreted within the context of public health implications, considering factors such as disease prevalence, socioeconomic determinants and healthcare utilisation patterns. The results of the data analysis provide valuable insights into the public health implications of hospital patient data. The research also covers prediction for the patient data to the hospital based on disease, age and geographical residence. The research prediction shows that in 2023, the number of patients was not considerably affected, but in in March to April 2024, the number significantly increased to 10,000 patients. These recommendations encompass targeted prevention strategies, improved healthcare delivery models and community engagement initiatives. The research emphasises the importance of collaboration between healthcare providers, policymakers and community stakeholders in implementing and evaluating these interventions.

Digital literacy is the ability to use digital technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information. People with disabilities benefit from having these skills because they allow them to access various opportunities in the digital world. To ensure that they can fully participate in the digital realm, digital literacy efforts should prioritize inclusive design principles. People with disabilities often rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, alternative input devices, voice recognition software, or specialized hardware to navigate digital platforms. Digital literacy programs should not only focus on consuming content but also on creating and sharing it through documents, multimedia, and online platforms. Peer support and collaboration are important for enhancing their learning experience. Additionally, digital literacy programs address cybersecurity or online safety considerations specific to such people and provide them training and support for using assistive technologies effectively while educating them about potential risks, privacy settings, and safe online practices. This narrative review highights the meaning and levels of digital literacy, digital divide, history, before expanding on the quantative metrics in the available research on the theme of people with disabilities. Retrieved data from freely accessible internet search engines revealed 196 publications, including books, chapters in books, original research articles, proceedings of seminars, and reviews, which were classified into harvest plots to be analyzed by their format, timelines, topics, or themes, respectively. While results indicate an upward curve in the quantity of publications, especially in the post-millennium era, the topics addressed are unevenly distributed, leaving scope for the future to focus empirical and evidence based research on themes related to measurement as well as training on digital literacies for both teachers and students with disabilities. By promoting digital literacy in people with disabilities, we can bridge the digital divide and empower them to participate fully in today's increasingly digital society.

Perceptual and statistical evidence has underlined voice characteristics of individuals affected by genetic syndromes different from that of normophonic subjects. In this paper we propose a procedure for the systematic collection of such pathological voices and the development of AI-based automatic tools to support differential diagnosis. Guidelines are provided concerning most suitable recording devices, vocal tasks and acoustical parameters, in order to simplify, speed up and make the whole procedure homogenous and replicable. The proposed procedure was applied to a set of 56 subjects, affected by Costello syndrome (CS), Down syndrome (DS), Noonan syndrome (NS) and Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS). The whole database has been divided into three groups, respectively called: paediatric subjects (PS, individuals < 12 years of age), female adults (FA) and male adults (MA) subjects. In line with literature results, the Kruskal-Wallis test and post-hoc analysis with Dunn-Bonferroni test highlighted several significant differences in acoustical features not only between healthy subjects and patients, but also across syndromes within PS, FA and MA groups. Machine learning provided for the PS group a k-nearest neighbour classifier with 75% accuracy, for the FA group a support vector machine (SVM) model with 84% accuracy and for the MA group a SVM model with 97% accuracy. These preliminary results suggest that the proposed procedure, based on acoustical analysis and AI, might be helpful for an effective non-invasive automatic characterization of genetic syndromes.

Due to the success of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the medical field over the past decade, concerns about the explainability of these systems have increased. The reliability requirements of black-box led algorithms for making decisions affecting patients pose a challenge even beyond their accuracy. Recent advances in AI increasingly underscore the need to incorporate explainability into these systems. While most traditional AI methods and expert systems are inherently interpretable, recent literature has focused primarily on explainability techniques for more complex models such as deep learning. This scoping review analyzes the existing literature on explainability and interpretability of AI methods in the medical and clinical field, providing an overview of past and current research trends, and limitations that might impede the development of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) in medicine, challenges, and possible research directions. In addition, this review discusses possible alternatives for leveraging medical knowledge to improve interpretability in clinical settings, while taking into account the needs of users.

Aimed for the difficulty and complexity of detecting the piston error for segmented telescope, this paper proposed a new piston error measurement method based on a hybrid artificial neural net-work. Firstly, we use Resnet network to learn the mapping relationship between the focal plane degradation image and the signs of the piston error. Then, based on the established theoretical re-lationship between modulation transfer function and the piston error, BP neural network is used here to learn the mapping relationship between the MTF and the absolute value of the piston error. After the training of the hybrid network is completed, a wide-range and high-precision detection of the piston error of the sub-mirrors can be achieved using the combined output of the two net-works only a focal plane image of a point source with broadband illumination is used as input. The detection range can reach the whole coherent length of the input broadband light, and the detec-tion accuracy can reach 10nm. The method proposed in this paper has the advantages of high de-tection accuracy, wide detection range, low hardware cost, small network scale and low training difficult.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands as an emerging technology poised to reshape various facets of our daily lives, with a particularly noteworthy influence on the labor market. In Morocco, AI adoption has commenced in diverse sectors, including finance, insurance, and telecommunications, opening up fresh avenues for employment. Nevertheless, this technological shift also ushers in challenges for Moroccan workers, necessitating training and upskilling to effectively engage with AI-driven systems. Within this article, we delve into the burgeoning impact of AI on the Moroccan economy and job landscape, delving into both the opportunities and obstacles that accompany its proliferation. Furthermore, we explore strategies that authorities and businesses can employ to harness the benefits of AI while mitigating its potential adverse effects on Morocco's workforce.

Abstract: The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has in just a few years invested multiple areas of knowledge, also affecting the medical-scientific sector. An increasing number of AI-based applications have been developed, among which conversational AI has emerged. Among these, ChatGPT has risen to the headlines, scientific and otherwise, for its distinct propensity to simulate a 'real' discussion with its interlocutor, based on appropriate prompts. Although several clinical studies using ChatGPT have already been published in the literature, very little has yet been written about its potential application in human pathology. We conduct a systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Re-views and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, using PubMed and Scopus as databases, with the fol-lowing keywords: ChatGPT OR Chat GPT, in combination with each of the following: Pathology, di-ag-nostic pathology, anatomic pathology. A total of 90 records were initially identified in the literature search, of which 6 were duplicates. After screening for eligibility and inclusion criteria, only 5 publications were ultimately included. The majority of publications were original articles (n = 2), followed by case reports (n = 1), letter to the editor (n = 1) and review (n = 1). Although the premises are exciting and ChatGPT is able to co-advise the pathologist in providing large amounts of scientific data for use in routine microscopic diagnostic practice, there are many limitations that need to be addressed and resolved, with the caveat that an AI-driven system should always provide support and never a decision-making motive during the anatomo-pathological diagnostic process.

This paper investigates the influence of different vegetation on the permeability of the shallow soil layers of slopes under rainfall infiltration. Firstly, four large slopes are filled in the outdoor natural environment, and the overburdens of the four slopes are Magnolia multiflora, Cynodon dactylon, Magnolia multiflora mixed with Cynodon dactylon, and no vegetation. Secondly, the four slopes are cultivated in the outdoor natural environment for one year. After the vegetation overburdens are matured, the field artificial rainfall test is carried out through the self-developed artificial rainfall device to monitor the water migration law inside the four slopes in real time. Finally, the unsaturated permeability coefficients of the shallow soil layers of slopes are calculated. The results show that the infiltration rate of rainwater in each overburden slope from fast to slow is Magnolia multiflora overburden slope, no vegetation slope, Cynodon dactylon overburden slope, Magnolia multiflora mixed with Cynodon dactylon overburden slope. In the early stage of rainfall, Magnolia multiflora increases the permeability coefficient of the shallow soil layer of the slope, thus weakening the anti-seepage ability of the slope, but the influence of Magnolia multiflora is not obvious in the later stage. Cynodon dactylon and Magnolia multiflora mixed with Cynodon dactylon can significantly reduce the permeability coefficient of the shallow soil layers of the slopes, thereby increasing the anti-seepage ability of the slopes, and the mixed planting of Magnolia multiflora and Cynodon dactylon can minimize the permeability coefficient of the shallow soil of the slope, resulting in the best anti-seepage effect.

Although wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) detects small bowel diseases effectively, it has some limitations. For example, the reading process can be time-consuming due to the numerous images generated per case, and lesion detection accuracy may rely on the operators' skills and experiences. Hence, many researchers have recently developed deep learning-based methods to address these limitations. However, they tend to select only a portion of the images from a given WCE video and analyze each image individually. In this study, we note that more information can be extracted from the unused frames and temporal relations of sequential frames. Specifically, to increase the accuracy of lesion detection without depending on experts' frame selection skills, we suggest using whole video frames as the input to the deep-learning system. Thus, we propose a new Transformer-based neural encoder that takes the entire video as the input, exploiting the power of the Transformer to extract long-term global correlation within and between the input frames. Subsequently, we can capture the temporal context of the input frames and the attentional features within a frame. Tests on benchmark datasets of four WCE videos showed 95.1% sensitivity and 83.4% sensitivity. These results may significantly advance automated lesion detection techniques for WCE images. Abstract: Accurately predicting a fetus's gestational age (GA) is of utmost importance in prenatal care. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) model that can automatically predict GA using biometric measurements derived from fetal brain mag-netic resonance imaging (MRI). Additionally, we aimed to assess the significance of con-sidering different references when interpreting GA predictions. To achieve this, we obtained measurements such as Biparietal Diameter (BPD), Fron-to-occipital Diameter (FOD), and Head Circumference (HC) from a dataset comprising 52 normal fetal MRI cases with T2 Haste sequences from Rush University. Both manual and AI-based methods were utilized to acquire these measurements. We also employed three reference papers (Garel, Freq, and Bio) for comparison purposes. The results demonstrated a strong correlation between manual and AI measure-ments, indicating consistency between the two methods. The AI-based measurement of HC exhibited a higher correlation with actual values compared to BPD, FOD, and correct-ed BPD (BPDC). When comparing these measurements with GA in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), the differences varied depending on the reference used. Specifically, the differences ranged from 0.47 to 2.17 weeks for BPD, 0.46 to 2.26 weeks for FOD, and 0.75 to 1.74 weeks for HC. Furthermore, the Pearson correlation coeffi-cient analysis revealed that all correlation coefficients between PACS records and GA pre-dictions using different references were greater than 0.97. In conclusion, the AI model based on fetal brain MRI accurately predicts GA by uti-lizing BPD, FOD, and HC measurements. The AI approach, which involves combining line segments to calculate fetal head circumference, offers improved accuracy and con-venience compared to manual estimation. This study underscores the potential of AI models in accurately estimating gestational age and highlights their utility in prenatal care. By integrating AI as a valuable tool in prenatal care, we can enhance the accuracy, ef-ficiency, and decision-making involved in assessing fetal development and monitoring pregnancies using MRI measurements.

Artificial neural networks are a powerful tool for managing data that is difficult to process and interpret. This paper presents the study of artificial neural networks for information processing generated by an optical encoder based on the polarization of light. A machine learning technique is proposed to train the neural networks, such that the system can predict with remarkable accuracy the angular position in which the rotating element of the neuro-encoder is located, based on information provided by light’s phase shifting arrangements. The proposed neural designs show excellent performance in small angular intervals, and a methodology is proposed to avoid losing this remarkable characteristic in measurements from 0 to 180o or even to 360o. The neuro-encoder is implemented in simulation stage to obtain performance results. This study can be useful to improve capabilities of resolvers or other polyphasic sensors.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly important, especially in the medical field. While AI has been used in medicine for some time, its growth in the last decade has been remarkable. Specifically, Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques in medicine have been increasingly adopted thanks to the growing abundance of health-related data, improved suitability of such techniques for managing large data-sets, and more computational power. The Italian scientific community has been instrumental in advancing this research area. This article aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation of the ML and DL methodologies and applications used in medicine by the Italian research community in the last five years.

In the field of orthodontics, providing patients with accurate treatment time estimates is of utmost importance. As orthodontic practices continue to evolve and embrace new advancements, incorporating machine learning (ML) methods becomes increasingly valuable in improving orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. This study aimed to develop a novel ML model capable of predicting the orthodontic treatment duration based on essential pre-treatment variables. Patients who completed comprehensive orthodontic treatment at the Indiana University School of Dentistry were included in this retrospective study. Fifty-seven pre-treatment variables were collected and used to train and test 9 different ML models. The performance of each model was assessed using descriptive statistics, intraclass correlation coefficients, and one-way analysis of variance tests. Random Forest, Lasso, and Elastic Net were found to be the most accurate, with a mean absolute error of 7.27 months in predicting treatment duration. Extraction decision, COVID, intermaxillary relationship, lower incisor position, and additional appliances were identified as important predictors of treatment duration. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of ML in predicting orthodontic treatment duration using pre-treatment variables.

The nature abundant sodium metal is proposed as ideal anode materials for advanced batteries due to its high specific capacity of 1166mAh g-1 and low redox potential of -2.71V. However, the uncontrollable dendritic Na formation and low coulombic efficiency are still major obstacles for applications. Notably, the unstable and inhomogeneous solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is recognized to be the root cause. As SEI layer plays a critical role in regulating uniform Na deposition and improving cycling stability, researches on SEI modification, especially the artificial SEI modifications has been extensively investigated recently. In this regard, we discussed the advances on artificial interface engineering from the aspects of inorganic, organic and hybrid inorganic/organic protective layers. Finally, we also highlighted the conclusions and key prospects for further investigations. We hope this review can provide a new insight for sodium metal protection.

After more than 20 years of market-oriented reforms, China's economy has developed significantly so far. Guangzhou, in particular, has been developing rapidly, with its urbanisation rate increasing and its gross domestic product climbing, all of which have prompted Guangzhou to pay more attention to the ecological aspects of its development. The Nansha Coastal Wetland Scenic Area, located in the southernmost part of Guangzhou, is the largest coastal wetland in Guangzhou and the largest habitat for migratory birds in the city, as well as an important exemplary ecological reserve in Guangzhou's "Road to Ecological Civilisation". With the inclusion of Nansha in the national development strategy of Guangzhou's "Southward Expansion", the conflict between ecological protection of coastal wetlands and urban development has become increasingly prominent. In this regard, this study intends to use theoretical analysis, literature research, comparative analysis, fieldwork, data analysis and case studies to analyse the current state of the ecological environment in Nansha, explore the main problems in the process of its "southern development", and propose practical solutions for the construction and development of the ecological environment in Guangzhou, combining the theories of ecological economy, public goods and dissipative structure in Nansha. This paper is divided into seven chapters. This paper is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 presents the significance, purpose, content, methodology and technical approach of the study. Chapter 2 defines the basic concepts and the characteristics of the terms "Nantuo", "Nansha New Area", "coastal wetland" and "Nansha Binhai Wetland Scenic Area". The terms "Nansha New Area", "coastal wetland" and "Nansha Coastal Wetland Scenic Area" are defined. The theoretical basis of ecological economy theory, public goods theory, dissipative structure theory and sustainable development theory is used to explain the importance of protecting wetlands. It also demonstrates the importance that countries attach to the conservation of wetland ecology through a review of domestic and international literature. Chapter 3 describes the formation process, development status, conservation content and conservation actions of the Nansha Binhai wetland. Chapter 4 analyses the apparent and invisible problems faced by the Nansha coastal wetlands. Chapter 5 draws lessons from the experience of wetland resources development and conservation in China and overseas. Chapter 6 presents recommendations and solutions to the existing wetland problems in the Nansha coastal area. Chapter 7 provides conclusions and outlook. The ecological vulnerability of the Nansha wetlands is obvious. The government has to speed up the construction of logistics, industries, railways and ports while protecting a large area of wetlands. In the conflict between industrial civilization and ecological civilization, maintaining the integrity of the Nansha wetland requires the participation of the whole society, so as to finally achieve a balance between economic development and ecological protection, providing important theoretical guidance for the protection of the ecological environment of the Nansha wetland, ecological planning and scenic area development under the development strategy of the "southern expansion" of Guangzhou's urban space.

The aim was to assess the precision and accuracy of cephalometric analyses performed by artificial intelligence (AI) with and without human augmentation. Four dental professionals with varying experience levels and AI identified 31 landmarks on 30 cephalometric radiographs twice. These landmarks were re-identified by all examiners with the aid of AI. Precision and accuracy were assessed by using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and mean absolute errors (MAEs). AI revealed the highest precision with a mean ICC of 0.97, while the dental student had the lowest (mean ICC: 0.77). AI/human augmentation method significantly improved precision of the orthodontist, resident, dentist, and dental student by 3.26%, 2.17%, 19.75%, and 23.38%, respectively. The orthodontist demonstrated the highest accuracy with a MAE of 1.57 mm/˚. AI/human augmentation method improved the accuracy of the orthodontist, resident, dentist, and dental student by 12.74%, 19.10%, 35.69%, and 33.96%, respectively. AI demonstrated excellent precision and good accuracy in automated cephalometric analysis. The precision and accuracy of the examiners with the aid of AI improved by 10.47% and 27.27%, respectively. The AI/human augmentation method significantly improved the precision and accuracy of less experienced dental professionals to that of an experienced orthodontist.

Background: Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is widely used for the diagnosis of bilio-pancreatic and gastrointestinal (GI) tract diseases, for the evaluation of subepithelial lesions, and for sampling of lymph nodes and solid masses lo-cated next to the GI tract. The role of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare in growing. This review aimed to provide an overview of the current state of AI in EUS from imaging to pathological diagnosis and training. Methods: AI algorithms can assist in lesion detection and characterization in EUS by analysing EUS images and identifying suspicious areas that may require further clinical evaluation or biopsy sampling. Deep learning tech-niques, such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have shown great potential for tumour identification and subepithelial lesion (SEL) evaluation by extracting important features from EUS images and using them to classify or segment the images. Results: AI models with new features can increase the accuracy of diagnoses, provide faster diagnoses, identify subtle differences in disease presentation that may be missed by human eyes, and provide more information and in-sights into disease pathology. Conclusions: The integration of AI in EUS images and biopsies has the potential to improve the diagnostic accura-cy, leading to better patient outcomes and to a reduction of repeated procedures in case of non-diagnostic biopsies.

Recent advancements in Natural Language Processing (NLP), particularly in Large Language Models (LLMs), associated with deep learning-based computer vision techniques, have shown substantial potential for automating a variety of tasks. One notable model is Visual ChatGPT, which combines ChatGPT’s LLM capabilities with visual computation to enable effective image analysis. The model’s ability to process images based on textual inputs can revolutionize diverse fields. However, its application in the remote sensing domain remains unexplored. This is the first paper to examine the potential of Visual ChatGPT, a cutting-edge LLM founded on the GPT architecture, to tackle the aspects of image processing related to the remote sensing domain. Among its current capabilities, Visual ChatGPT can generate textual descriptions of images, perform canny edge and straight line detection, and conduct image segmentation. These offer valuable insights into image content and facilitate the interpretation and extraction of information. By exploring the applicability of these techniques within publicly available datasets of satellite images, we demonstrate the current model’s limitations in dealing with remote sensing images, highlighting its challenges and future prospects. Although still in early development, we believe that the combination of LLMs and visual models holds a significant potential to transform remote sensing image processing, creating accessible and practical application opportunities in the field.

Deep learning has already revolutionised the way we process a wide range of data, in many areas of our daily life. The ability to learn abstractions and relationships from heterogeneous data, has provided impressively accurate prediction and classification tools to handle increasingly big datasets. This has a significant impact on the growing wealth of omics datasets, with the unprecedented opportunity for a better understanding of the complexity of living organisms. While this revolution is transforming the way we analyse these data, explainable deep learning is emerging as an additional tool with the potential to change the way we interpret biological data. Explainability addresses critical issues such as transparency, so important when computational tools are introduced especially in clinical environments. Moreover, it empowers artificial intelligence with the capability to provide new insights in the input data, thus adding an element of discovery to these already powerful resources. In this review we provide an overview of the transformative effects explainable deep learning is having on multiple sectors, ranging from genome engineering and genomics, from radiomics to drug design and clinical trials. We offer a perspective to life scientists, to better understand the potential of these tools, and a motivation to implement them in their research, by suggesting learning resources they can use to move their first steps in this field.

The construction sector has begun to embrace the digital revolution, intending to improve efficiency. How, on the other hand, should the industry adopt digital tools? And how should the connection between humans and technology function? This study aims to shed light on how the construction sector may bridge the gap between AI deployments’s potential and realized advantages. This article presents research based on a comprehensive review of the literature, case studies of Speller Metcalfe, a design-build and refurbishment project in Malvern, England, Jacobsen Construction, a project digitizing the planning process in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and Menkes Development Inc., real-time visibility to construction site insights and data-driven decision-making in Toronto, Canada. The experiences gained via this study show that it is feasible to acquire expertise while adopting sophisticated technologies, such as artificial intelligence, by installing fundamental digital tools (AI). However, when it comes to AI, the level of trust between humans and machines will be the deciding element in its success. This article is a pioneering effort in examining the deployment of AI and how people and technology should interact. This study is limited to three case studies and three digital technologies. To further the study, it is suggested to debate the adaptation of AI on the user's premises, gather more empirical data, and examine case studies from different sectors.

If the development of machine learning and artificial intelligence plays a role in many fields of research and technology today, it has a special relationship with neurosciences. Indeed, historically inspired by our knowledge of the brain, deep learning shares some vocabularies with neurosciences and can sometimes be considered a brain’s model. Taking the particular example of epileptic seizure, which can develop in any biological neural tissue, we raise the question if and how the models used for deep learning can capture or model these pathological events. This particular example is a starting point to discuss the nature, limits, and functions of these models, and what we expect from a model of the brain. Finally, we argue that a pluralistic approach leading to the integrated coexistence of different models is necessary to study the brain in all its complexity.

Laboratory medicine is a digital science. Every large hospital produces a wealth of data each day - from simple numerical results from e.g. sodium measurements to highly complex output of “-omics” analyses, as well as quality control results and meta-data. Processing, connecting, storing, and ordering extensive parts of these individual data requires Big Data techniques. Whereas novel technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning have exciting application for the augmentation of laboratory medicine, the Big Data concept remains fundamental for any sophisticated data analysis in large databases. To make laboratory medicine data optimally usable for clinical and research purposes, they need to be FAIR: findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable. This can be achieved for example by automated recording, connection of devices, efficient ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, careful data governance, and modern data security solutions. Enriched with clinical data, laboratory medicine data allow a gain in pathophysiological insights, can improve patient care, or they can be used to develop reference intervals for diagnostic purposes. Nevertheless, Big Data in laboratory medicine do not come without challenges: The growing number of analyses and data derived from them is a demanding task to be taken care of. Laboratory medicine experts are and will be needed to drive this development, take an active role in the ongoing digitalization, and provide guidance for their clinical colleagues engaging with the laboratory data in research.

Accurately predicting ambient dust plays a crucial role in air quality management and hazard mitigation. This study explores the accuracy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models: adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) and multi-layered perceptron artificial neural network (mlp-NN) over the southwestern United States (SWUS) based on the observed dust data from IMPROVE stations. The ambient fine dust (PM2.5) and coarse dust (PM10) concentrations at monthly and seasonal timescale from 1990-2020 are modeled using average daily maximum wind speed (W), average precipitation (P), and average air temperature (T) available from North American Regional Reanalysis (NARR). The model’s performance is measured using correlation (r), root mean square error (RMSE), and percentage bias (% BISA). ANFIS model generally performs better than mlp-NN model in predicting regional dustiness over the SWUS region with r of 0.77 and 0.83 for monthly and seasonal fine dust respectively. AI models perform better in predicting regional dustiness at a seasonal timescale than the monthly timescale for both fine dust and coarse dust. AI models better predict fine dust than coarse dust at both monthly and seasonal timescales. Compared to precipitation, the near-surface average temperature is the more important predictor of the regional dustiness at both monthly and seasonal timescale. However, compared to the monthly timescale, air temperature is less more important predictor than precipitation at the seasonal timescale for PM2.5 and vice versa for PM10. The findings of this study demonstrate that the AI models have a good potential to predict monthly and seasonal fine and coarse dust at acceptable accuracy based on basic climatic data.

Nowadays, emerging technologies have changed the places of work through computers and ICT tools, which have revolutionized teaching and learning environments in different ways. In spite of the fact that computers as ICT tools have become part and progressively instrument for teachers and instructors used in teaching and learning, but most educators can't incorporate them into their teaching and learning process, which results in students being ill-equipped or lacking some necessary skills in the world of work, which leads to low performance and poor handling of tools whose lead to low production. To tackle this issue, it is essential to develop the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system by determining the quality of technical and vocational education (TVE) teachers. In this paper, the literature concerning the competence required by TVET teachers towards computer-related instructional tech-nology for classroom teaching and learning was examined through the technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) model. Sixty (60) questionnaires were ad-ministered to TVE teachers within six technical colleges of education in north-eastern Nigeria. The data was quantitatively analyzed using traditional linear models, namely multilinear regression (MLR) and artificial intelligence (AI) models, namely artificial neural networks (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS), which were developed using MATLAB 9.3 (R2019a), while the classical linear MLR model was developed using SPSS software. The results from our classical study indicated that TVE teachers are competent in computer and some instructional technology usage and show a high correlation between competence and teaching experience and a lower correlation between competence and gender. The goodness of fit shows a good fit of the model. Future studies should examine the application of other linear and non-linear AI techniques.

The number of AI applications in education is growing every day. One recent AI application in the educational sector is Chatbot technology, which is used to support teaching and administrative tasks. This document presents the design and implementation of a Chatbot called Tashi-Bot that helps applicants and university students to obtain information from an educational institution about certain academic and administrative processes. Among these are processes related to well-being, tuition, costs, admission, and other services. In order to design the Chatbot, an analysis of the state of the art, methodologies, and suitable tools was carried out, and a survey was conducted to discover the needs of users and their preferences in the use of a Chatbot for this specific purpose. Tashi-Bot was implemented on the SnatchBot platform and later deployed on a Telegram channel. In its evaluation, a final survey was carried out to check on the satisfaction of the users. The results suggest that Tashi-Bot could help applicants and university students to find information on academic and administrative processes with great certainty and without the need for human interaction. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an automation mechanism that runs in a computer system performing tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision making or translation [1]. Some authors argue that recent developments in AI are leading to a wave of innovation in organizational design and changes to institutionalized norms of the workplace [2]. Techno-optimists even named this present phase the ‘second machine age’, arguing that it now involves the substitution of the human brain (Brynjolfsson and McAfee 2014). Potentially, the ability to apply AI in a generalized way can produce significant technical, economic and social effects in firms. But how many of these AI applications are ready and how far can they be from reaching the manufacturing industry market? The paper will answer the question: what are the implications on industrial productivity and employment in the automotive sector with the recent automation trends in Portugal? We will focus on AI as the most relevant emergent technology to understand the development of automation in areas related to robotics, software, and data communications in Europe (Moniz 2018). R&D investments in industrial processes in general may reflect productivity improvements derived from the increased automation process. Our results will be based on case studies from the automotive and components sector combined with database search by keywords that signal intelligence automation developments and AI applications selected from national R&D projects (on robotics, machine learning, collaborative tools, human-machine interaction, autonomous systems, etc) supported by European structural funds. The implications on industrial productivity and employment will be discussed in relation to automation trends in the automotive sector.

Over the past decade, recognition of human activities (HAR) has become a vibrant field of research, in particular, the spread in our everyday lives of electronics such as mobile phones, smart cell phones, and video cameras. Furthermore, the advancement in the field of deep methodologies and other paradigms have enabled scientists to enable HAR in many areas, consisting of activities in fitness and wellness. For instance, HAR is one of many resorts to support older people through day-to-day activities to support their cognition and physicality. This study is centered on the key aspects deep learning plays in the development of HAR applications. Although numerous HAR examination studies were carried out previously, there have been no overall studies on this subject, in all the earlier studies there were only specific HAR-related subjects. A detailed review covering all the main subjects in this area is therefore essential. This study discusses the latest developments and works in HAR. It separates the methods and the advantages and disadvantages of each method group. This paper finally addresses many problems in the current HAR subject and provides recommendations for potential study.

Artificial Intellignece (AI) is a platform lending immense assistance in discovering and developing drugs and thus, various such approaches have been developed with the intent of simplifying and improving biomedical operations such as drug repurposing and drug discovery. In the past decade, AI-based investigation of nanomedicines, as well as non-nanomedicines has reached the clinical level. In semblance with the traditional methods of therapy, nanomedicine therapy is employed at limited doses. The study of a variety of drugs resulted in the conclusion that the effect of each drug is variable for every patient and, evaluating that perfect drug combination manually is a time-consuming as well as an inefficient treatment method. Therefore, the use of AI simplifies and reduces the time consumption in determining the perfect customized drug combination for nano-therapy. The area with the most potential for meeting this reality is to optimize the drug and dosage parameters. It is a universally known fact that cancer is dangerous and unique because of the exacting challenges it poses during treatment and, to achieve a better treatment, the therapeutic effect on each patient must be delineated even if the volume of data generated is massive. The article aims at analyzing the AI technologies that help yield results much quicker, make the analyses simple, and efficient.

Every year, General Practitioners (GPs) see over 13 million patients for dermatological concerns making dermatology the highest referring speciality. Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems could improve system efficiency by supporting clinicians in making appropriate referrals, but they are, like human clinicians, imperfect and there may be a trade-off between sensitivity and specificity that is likely to result in false negatives. In this paper, a study is presented to explore two areas. Firstly, the aptitude of GPs to trust appropriately (or not trust) the outputs of a fictitious AI-based decision support tool when assessing skin lesions. Secondly, to identify which individual characteristics could make GPs less prone to adhere to erroneous diagnostics results and to refrain from passive adherence to AI. Findings suggest that when the AI is correct, there is a positive effect on GPs’ performance and confidence suggesting the potential to reduce referrals for benign lesions. However, when an inexperienced GP is presented with a false-negative result, they may passively deviate from their initial clinical judgement to accept the wrong diagnosis provided. AI systems will have a false-negative rate and, when adopting new technologies, this needs to be acknowledged and fed into risk-benefit discussions and considerations around additional safety measures.

Smartwatches provide technology-based assessments in Parkinson’s disease (PD). We present results for sensor validation and disease classification via Machine Learning (ML). A comparison setup was designed with two different series of Apple smartwatches, one Nanometrics seismometer and a high-precision shaker to measure tremor-like amplitudes and frequencies. Clinical smartwatch measurements were acquired from a prospective study including 450 participants with PD, differential diagnoses (DD) and healthy participants. All participants wore two smartwatches and within a 15-min examination. Symptoms and medical history were captured on the paired smartphone. A broad range of different ML classifiers were cross-validated. Amplitude and frequency differences between smartwatches and the seismometer were under the level of clinical significance. The most advanced task of distinguishing PD vs DD was evaluated with 74,1% balanced accuracy, 86,5% precision and 90,5% recall by Multilayer Perceptrons. Deep Learning architectures significantly underperformed in all classification tasks. Smartwatches are capable of capturing subtle-tremor signs with low noise. This study provided the largest PD sample size of two-hand smartwatch measurements and our preliminary ML-evaluation shows that such a system provides powerful means for diagnosis classification and new digital biomarkers but it remains challenging for distinguishing similar disorders.

Identifying fake news on the media has been an important issue. This is especially true considering the wide spread of rumors on the popular social networks such as Twitter. Various kinds of techniques have been proposed for automatic rumor detection. In this work, we study the application of graph neural networks for rumor classification at a lower level, instead of applying existing neural network architectures to detect rumors. The responses to true rumors and false rumors display distinct characteristics. This suggests that it is essential to capture such interactions in an effective manner for a deep learning network to achieve better rumor detection performance. To this end we present a simplified aggregation graph neural network architecture. Experiments on publicly available Twitter datasets demonstrate that the proposed network has performance on a par with or even better than that of state-of-the-art graph convolutional networks, while significantly reducing the computational complexity.

Artificial sweeteners are widely used food ingredients in beverages and drinks to lower calorie intake which in turn prevent lifestyle diseases such as obesity. Epidemiological evidences suggest that an overdose of artificial sweeteners could result to adverse effects after consumption. Thus, our study aims to systematically explore the potential adverse effects of eight commercial artificial sweeteners, including acesulfame-K, alitame, aspartame, sodium cyclamate, dulcin, neotame, saccharin and sucralose on cardiac performances of zebrafish (Danio rerio) and Daphnia as model animals. Embryonic zebrafish and Daphnia were exposed to eight artificial sweeteners at 100 ppb concentrations and their cardiac performance (heart rate, ejection fraction, fractional shortening, stroke volume, cardiac output and heartbeat regularity) were measured and compared. Saccharin significantly increased the heart rate of zebrafish larvae while a significant decrease was observed in Daphnia. Significant increase was also noted in zebrafish heart rate variability after incubation in acesulfame K, dulcin, sodium cyclamate, and sucralose. However, a significant increase in Daphnia was only observed after incubation in dulcin. Based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering results, several artificial sweetener samples were species-specific to zebrafish and Daphnia. Our study demonstrates the potential adverse physiological effects of artificial sweeteners in cardiovascular systems of zebrafish larvae and Daphnia.

Over the years, various models have been developed in the stages of the mining process that have allowed predicting and enhancing results, but it is the breakage the variable that connects all the activities of the mining process from the point of view of costs (drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing and grinding). To improve this process, we come up with an idea to develop a breakage prediction model; on the basis of the main variables involved in the drilling and blasting process. For this purpose, we design a computer model based on an Artificial Neuronal Networks (ANN), built by using the most representative variables that come into play with drilling and blasting, such as: the properties of the explosives, the geomechanical parameters of the rock mass, and the design parameters of drilling-blasting. For its experimentation and validation, we have taken the data from a copper mine as reference located in the north of Chile, because of we have the dataset of that ore deposit, which is valid and reliable to evaluate prediction problems based on ANN applied to copper mines. The ANN architecture was of the supervised type, feedforward, with 3 layers and 13 neurons in the only hidden layer, trained with the input data using a dataset with the previously mentioned variables, which then were compared with the breakage results. The model was feed backed in its learning process until it becomes perfected, and is a prediction option that can be used in future blasting of ore deposits with similar characteristics using the same representative variables. Therefore, this is a valid alternative for predicting rock breakage, given that it has been experimentally validated, and has achieved moderately reliable results, providing higher correlation coefficients than traditional models, and with the additional advantage that an ANN model provides, due to its ability to learn and recognize compiled dataset patterns. In this way, using this computer model we can obtain satisfactory results that allow us to predict breakage, providing an alternative for evaluating the costs that this entails.

The world has been evolving with new technologies and advances day-by-day. With the advent of various learning technologies in every field, the research community is able to provide solution in every aspect of life with the applications of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, etc. However, with such high achievements, it is found to lag behind the ability to provide explanation against its prediction. The current situation is such that these modern technologies are able to predict and decide upon various cases more accurately and speedily than a human, but failed to provide an answer when the question of why to trust its prediction is put forward. In order to attain a deeper understanding into this rising trend, we explore a very recent and talked-about novel contribution which provides rich insight on a prediction being made -- ``Explainability.'' The main premise of this survey is to provide an overview for researches explored in the domain and obtain an idea of the current scenario along with the advancements published to-date in this field. This survey is intended to provide a comprehensive background of the broad spectrum of Explainability.

Restricted Boltzmann machines (RBMs) are the building blocks of some deep learning networks. However, despite their importance, it is our perception that some very important derivations about the RBM are missing in the literature, and a beginner may feel RBM very hard to understand. We provide here these missing derivations. We cover the classic Bernoulli-Bernoulli RBM and the Gaussian-Bernoulli RBM, but leave out the ``continuous'' RBM as it is believed not as mature as the former two. This tutorial can be used as a companion or complement to the famous RBM paper ``Training restricted Boltzmann machines: An introduction'' by Fisher and Igel.

An acrobot is a planar robot with a passive actuator in its first joint. The control problem of the acrobot tries to make it rise from the rest position to the inverted pendulum position. This control problem can be divided in the swing-up problem, when the robot has to rise itself through swinging up as a human acrobat does, and the balancing problem, when the robot has to maintain itself on the inverted pendulum position. We have developed three controllers for the swing-up problem applied to two types of motors: small and big. For small motors, we used the SARSA controller and the PD with a trajectory generator. For big motors, we propose a new controller to control the acrobot, a PWM controller. All controllers except SARSA are tuned using a Genetic Algorithm.

The convergence of artificial intelligence, robotics, and gaming has sparked critical discussions about the nature of life and the potential for artificial systems to replicate biological traits. This paper examines the defining characteristics of life—such as growth, reproduction, regulation, and sensitivity—and applies these criteria to AI-driven game entities and autonomous robots. By reviewing advancements in AI and robotics from 2015 to 2023, and grounding the analysis in biological theories, this study explores whether these artificial systems can be considered "alive" or if they are merely sophisticated simulations. The findings suggest that while artificial systems can mimic life-like behaviours, they lack essential biological traits, such as metabolism and autonomous reproduction. However, human tendencies to anthropomorphise these systems raise ethical and philosophical questions about the boundaries of life and the need for new frameworks to address the evolving role of artificial intelligence and robotics. This paper concludes by proposing directions for future research on the ethical, social, and technical implications of artificial life.

This research aims to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods, specifically Artificial Immune Systems (AIS), to design an optimal control strategy for a multivariable control plant. Two specific industrial control approaches are investigated: I-PD (Integral-Proportional Derivative) and PI-D (Proportional-Integral Derivative) control. The motivation for using these variations of PID controllers is that they are functionally implemented in modern industrial controllers, where they provide precise process control. The research results in a novel solution to the control synthesis problem for the industrial system. In particular, the research deals with the synthesis of I-P control for a two-loop system in the technological process of a distillation column. This synthesis is carried out using the AIS algorithm, which is the first application of this technique in this specific context. Methodological approaches are proposed to improve the performance of industrial multivariable control systems by effectively using optimization algorithms and establishing modified quality criteria. The numerical performance index ISE justifies the effectiveness of the AIS-based controllers in comparison with conventional PID controllers (ISE₁ = 1.865, ISE₂ = 1.56). The problem of synthesis of the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) control system is solved, considering the interconnections due to the decoupling procedure.

Postural deficits such as hyperlordosis (hollow back) or hyperkyphosis (hunchback) are relevant health issues. Diagnoses depend on the experience of the examiner and are therefore often subjective and prone to errors. Machine learning (ML) methods in combination with explainable ar-tificial intelligence (XAI) tools have proven useful for providing an objective, data-based orien-tation. However, only a few works have considered posture parameters, leaving the potential of more human-friendly XAI interpretations still untouched. Therefore, the present work proposes an objective, data-driven ML system for medical decision support that enables especially human-friendly interpretations using counterfactual explanations (CFs). Posture data for 1151 subjects were recorded by means of stereophotogrammetry. An expert-based classification of the subjects regarding the presence of hyperlordosis or hyperkyphosis was initially performed. Using a Gaussian progress classifier, the models were trained and interpreted using CFs. Label errors were flagged and re-evaluated using confident learning. Very good classification performances for both hyperlordosis and hyperkyphosis were found, whereby the re-evaluation and correction of the test labels led to a significant improvement (MPRAUC = 0.97). A statistical evaluation showed that the CFs seemed to be plausible in general. In the context of personalized medicine, the present study’s approach could be of importance for reducing diagnostic errors and thereby improving the individual adaptation of therapeutic measures. Likewise, it could be a basis for the development of apps for preventive posture assessment.

These models, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Auto encoders, have enabled healthcare professionals to analyze medical images more effectively and efficiently. The GAN model is one of the most popular generative picture AI models. It comprises two neural networks - a generator network and a discriminator network. The discriminator network's primary role is to discern between artificial and real visuals, while the generator network creates synthetic images. In an adversarial training process, the discriminator and generator work together to accurately categorize artificial and real images, with the generator trying to trick the discriminator. This technique has proved useful in radiology, where GANs are used for tasks such as image synthesis, image de-noising, and image segmentation. Image segmentation is a technique used in medical imaging analysis to split an image into several areas or segments. This has proved in identifying specific structures or regions in medical images, such as tumors, blood vessels, or organs. Generative deep models such as VAEs, GANs, and diffusion models have been applied to the augmentation of medical data, providing healthcare professionals with a more comprehensive understanding of a patient's condition. The development of generative image AI models has revolutionized medical imaging analysis, providing healthcare professionals with a more efficient and effective way to analyze medical images. Medical imaging has been a vital tool for healthcare professionals in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions. However, the interpretation of medical images is often challenging due to the complexity of the human body and the variations in anatomical structures. Therefore, image processing techniques are utilised to enhance the quality of medical images and extract relevant information. In this regard, fundamental image processing operations such as image segmentation, registration, and feature extraction are commonly utilised. However, the application of these operations might not always be appropriate due to the intricate structures of medical images, which include various anatomical variations and irregular tumour shapes. In the case of brain imaging, the presence of different tissues and structures, such as grey matter, white matter, and cerebrospinal fluid, can make it challenging to distinguish between healthy and diseased areas. More advanced image processing techniques such as machine learning algorithms are becoming increasingly popular for medical image analysis. The creation of irrelevant images that disturb the logical structure of the image can also occur due to the complexity of medical images. This adversely affect the accuracy of the interpretation of the image, leading to incorrect diagnoses and treatment plans. Hence, there is a need for sophisticated image processing techniques that can remove unwanted features and highlight the crucial information in the image. The performance of the model employed for image analysis might also be adversely affected by aberrant data and image deformations. Pre-processing techniques like noise reduction and picture normalization are essential for guaranteeing that the image is free of aberrations that could affect the interpretation's correctness. In conclusion, more sophisticated methods are needed to overcome the difficulties posed by the complexity of the images, fundamental image processing processes can be useful in improving the quality of medical images. In the end, these methods may improve patient outcomes by diagnosis.

This scoping review seeks to map the landscape of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is leveraged within educational environments to support students with disabilities and inclusive strategies and experiences. The research question concerns the role and impact of AI across diverse educational settings and in particular: “How is Artificial Intelligence (AI) being utilized within educational settings to support individuals with disabilities and promote inclusive education?”. The review explores this question under four pivotal dimensions: Educational Context, Disabilities and Special Needs, Artificial Intelligence Technologies, and Inclusivity and Inclusive Practice. Each contributes to a comprehensive understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of this inquiry. To ensure a comprehensive analysis, four major research databases have been used: Scopus, EBSCO, ERIC, and Web of Science (WoS). This robust search strategy enabled us to capture a wide array of relevant literature. The review also addresses ethical considerations essential for the responsible integration of AI in education, such as privacy, accessibility, and bias. By mapping existing research and identifying gaps, this scoping review lays the groundwork for future advancements in AI-driven inclusive educational practices.

Background Anemia is a prevalent global health issue, affecting individuals across all age groups and leading to significant morbidity. Traditional methods for diagnosing anemia rely on laboratory assessments of hemoglobin concentration, which are invasive and costly. This study investigates the potential of a chest X-ray (CXR)-based deep learning model (DLM) to predict anemia, offering a non-invasive and efficient diagnostic alternative. Patients and methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study using data from Tri-Service General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan, collected between June 2016 and February 2022. A total of 305,793 patients aged 20 years and older who had at least one CXR were included. The dataset was divided into development, tuning, internal validation, and external validation sets. All data originated from Tri-Service General Hospital, except for the external validation set, which was obtained from the Jingjhou branch. A DLM based on a 50-layer SE-ResNeXt architecture was developed to predict anemia from CXR images. The model's performance was compared to predictions made using traditional clinical data to assess its predictive accuracy. Results The DLM for predicting anemia showed strong performance, with an AUC of 0.845 in the internal validation set (sensitivity 68.5%, specificity 84.7%) and 0.852 in the external set (sensitivity 71.5%, specificity 83.2%). Subgroup analysis revealed better diagnostic accuracy with computed radiography, posteroanterior (PA) view, and in males aged 55 to 64, while younger females had lower accuracy. The DLM, especially when combined with patient data, outperformed other clinical models. Conclusion Our study introduces a deep learning tool for detecting anemia from chest images, offering faster decision-making and interventions in clinical settings. With further refinement, this model aims to align more closely with real-time clinical conditions, enhancing its utility. Ultimately, it has the potential to improve patient care through quicker anemia detection and better clinical outcomes.

The integration of responsible artificial intelligence (RAI) principles with emerging neurosymbolic AI (NSAI) systems is crucial for the development of fair, explainable, and trustworthy AI technologies. This paper presents a systematic review exploring the convergence of RAI and NSAI, analyzing current research to assess how RAI principles such as explainability, bias, robustness, transparency, and privacy have been applied to NSAI. This work employed a systematic literature review to synthesize findings from a sample of papers demonstrating RAI principle implementations. Our analysis reveals two main trends: significant research demonstrates the application of NSAI to enhance RAI principles in other AI systems, while limited work directly applies RAI principles to NSAI architectures. Key challenges include the lack of established frameworks for implementing RAI within NSAI systems and the com- plexities inherent in merging neural and symbolic reasoning methods. This review highlights open research gaps and suggests pathways for future work, emphasizing the need for robust RAI frameworks tailored to NSAI systems.

Healthcare is undergoing a technological transformation, particularly in robotic surgery and arti-ficial intelligence (AI) applied to cytology. These innovations are improving the precision and effi-ciency of both surgical procedures and laboratory diagnostics. Robotic systems, such as the Da Vinci, enable surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced control and precision, leading to minimally invasive surgeries with reduced recovery times. This technology has signifi-cantly impacted urological, cardiac, and gastrointestinal surgeries, and its use is expected to grow. In cytology, AI automates the analysis of cell samples, leading to faster and more accurate diag-noses, especially in detecting diseases like cervical cancer. AI reduces errors and enhances diag-nostic accuracy by identifying complex patterns in cellular images. Predictive analytics, driven by big data, also allows for personalized treatments based on patient-specific data. However, these technologies face challenges, including high costs, ethical concerns, data privacy issues, and resistance from healthcare professionals. Continuous training is essential for medical personnel to effectively adopt these tools. Furthermore, the rise of telemedicine and telesurgery, supported by advancements in 5G, offers new opportunities for remote care but also introduces risks, such as depersonalization of medical care and technological barriers. Ultimately, while robotic surgery and AI hold great promise for improving clinical outcomes, their successful integration will depend on addressing these challenges and ensuring that healthcare professionals are adequately prepared for the digital future.

The revolution of physiotherapy is achieved by the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical rehabilitation programs. While the integration of virtual reality (VR) and robotics has already marked significant strides in the industry, AI is taking patient rehabilitation to new heights. The integration of AI, VR and robotics in physiotherapy linked to a significant leap forward in patient rehabilitation. These technologies not only increase the effectiveness of the treatment, but also make it more accessible and attractive. In this article, we propose to study the use of AI in the management of medical rehabilitation programs, and we present a comprehensive survey of the latest empirical studies, highlighting AI-based technologies that facilitate the rehabilitation process, trying to demonstrate that the integration of AI in medical rehabilitation programs offers a transformative approach to patient care.

(1) Background: The study aimed to analyze and rank the benefits of adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the logistics area, considering the opinion of professionals working in the Brazilian logistics sector through the implementation of ISO/IEC 42001; (2) Methods: The procedures adopted included a literature review to identify the benefits of the use and the application of a survey aimed at professionals in the logistics sector. The analysis used the TOPSIS method to identify and rank the most decisive benefits; (3) Results: Of the 15 benefits mapped in the literature, the professionals attributed the greatest importance to customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, incentives for innovation, and improving the company's image and competitive advantage. The results indicate that adopting ISO/IEC 42001 not only promotes process optimization and cost reduction, but also encourages innovation and strengthens competitiveness in the market; (4) Conclusions: the implementation of this standard is vital for companies in the logistics sector, especially in a Brazilian context of major infrastructural and regulatory challenges. The findings highlight the need for a strategic approach to the adoption of AI, emphasizing the importance of efficient logistics management and ethical practices in the application of this technology.

Background: Transportation logistics is undergoing a transformative shift driven by innovative technologies to overcome human-generated obstacles. Governments and city authorities are increasingly keen on these technological advancements because they can reduce traffic and carbon emissions despite logistical and legal hurdles. Methods: Employing a methodology grounded in IMRAD principles and the PRISMA framework, guided by seminal work of Paraskevas et al., this study critically reviews existing literature to examine and integrate advancements in road transportation and carbon emission reduction through intelligent technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain (BC), and Internet of Things (IoT). This study also considers other issues like eliminating traffic congestion, improving traffic control systems, incorporating cutting-edge logistical technologies, and transforming policies in light of the development of smart cities. Results: The findings shed light on strategies to expedite travel and streamline logistics, fostering economic equity by adopting innovative, cost-effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly transport solutions. Conclusion: This research sets the stage for future studies to incorporate additional variables and conduct quantitative assessments, thus paving the way for optimized enhancements in modern city transportation systems.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) faces several mathematical challenges, such as optimization, generalization, interpretability of models, and phase transitions. These problems significantly limit the application of AI in critical areas such as medicine, autonomous systems, and finance. This paper examines the main mathematical problems of AI and proposes solutions based on the use of the universality of the Riemann zeta function.

With the improvement of computer, artificial intelligence, information technology and other technical levels, the relationship between man-machine environment systems is more complicated and diversified. The optimization, iteration and development of the new generation of intelligent equipment system and human-computer interaction interface put forward higher requirements for ensuring the safety of personnel, improving the efficiency of human-computer interaction and improving the efficiency of the system. Such as intelligent cabin adaptive cognitive decision aid system, how to adopt intelligent information display and human-computer interaction, optimize information processing, strengthen situational awareness; How to effectively present information and improve the efficiency of human-computer interaction, so that the system has good security, applicability and maximize its effectiveness; How to deal with man-machine matching and man-machine collaboration problems, so as to improve the efficiency of man-machine/unmanned collaborative work. Human factors throughout the life cycle of equipment systems must be fully considered. The human factor is considered in the system design, so that people, machines and the environment can work together and adapt to each other, so as to achieve benign interaction and feedback between people and equipment and interface and complete the full transmission and communication of human-machine intelligent interaction information. The development of new aircraft human-computer interaction systems combined with new technological methods has also gradually changed the role of pilots and staff. From the system operator gradually into the monitor and decision maker, especially with the improvement of the degree of intelligent flight, information technology, advanced complex airborne equipment is increasing, the amount of information that operators need to deal with is also increasing, and the allowed time for judgment and decision is very short, and the mental resources that pilots bear are gradually rising. As the mental load is a key factor affecting the allocation of cognitive tasks, when encountering emergency situations, the mental load overload caused by the increase of information processing tasks often occurs, which seriously affects the task performance of operators, physical and psychological comfort and flight safety, and thus affects the efficiency and safety of the entire aircraft man-machine system. This requires us to conduct real-time analysis of human-computer interaction situational awareness, especially the individual cognitive state as an uncontrollable factor.

The incidence of venous thromboembolism is estimated at around 3% of cancer patients. However, a majority of incidental pulmonary embolism (iPE) can be overlooked by radiologists in asymptomatic patients, performing CT scans for disease surveillance, which may significantly impact the patient's health and management. Routine imaging in oncology is usually reviewed with delayed hours after the acquisition of images. Nevertheless, the advent of AI in radiology could reduce the risk of diagnostic delay of iPE by an optimal triage immediately at the acquisition console. This study aimed to determine the accuracy rate of an AI algorithm (CIN A-iPE) in detecting iPE and the duration until the management of cancer patients in our center in addition to describing the characteristics of patients with a confirmed pulmonary embolism (PE). MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a retrospective analysis of the role of Avicenna's CE-certified and FDA-cleared CINA-iPE algorithm in oncology patients treated at Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus. The results obtained from the AI algorithm were compared with the attending radiologist's report and analyzed by both a radiology resident and a senior radiologist. In case of any discordant results, the reason for this discrepancy was further investigated. The duration between the exact time of the CT scan and analysis was assessed as well as the duration from the result’s reporting and the start of active management. RESULTS Out of 3047 patients, 104 alerts were detected for iPE (prevalence of 1.3%) while 2942 had negative findings. 36 of the 104 patients had confirmed PE while 68 alerts were false positives. Only one patient reported as negative by the AI tool was deemed to have a PE by the radiologist. The sensitivity and specificity of the AI model were 97.3% and 97.74% while the PPV and NPV were 34.62% and 99.97% respectively. Most causes of FP were artifacts (22 cases, 32.3%) and lymph nodes (11 cases, 16.2%). Seven patients experienced delayed diagnosis, requiring them to return to the ER for treatment after being sent home following their scan. The remaining patients received prompt care immediately after their testing with a mean delay time of 8.13 hours. CONCLUSION The addition of an AI system for the detection of unsuspected PEs on chest CT scans in routine oncology care demonstrated a promising efficacy in comparison to human performance. Despite a low prevalence, the sensitivity and specificity of the AI tool reached 97.3% and 97.7% respectively with detection of all the reported clinical PEs except one single case. This study describes the potential synergy between AI and radiologists for an optimal diagnosis of iPE in routine clinical cancer care.

This study explores the industrial property market in Hong Kong, a sector characterized by its unique features and atypical market behaviour. Particularly, this research employs machine learning techniques to predict property prices based on a set of features, including location, square footage, floor level, accessibility to mass transit railway station and the like. To ensure transparency and understanding, the Shapley value is employed to quantify the relative importance of each feature in predicting property prices. Our analysis reveals the existence of non–linear relationships among these features, as demonstrated by the wide distribution of SHAP values for most features, which are illustrated in a beeswarm plot that span both sides of the baseline. This finding indicates a complex interaction among such features as square footage, age, floor level, carpark, proximity to mass transit railway stations, location, and property prices. The results contribute valuable insights into the relationships between industrial property characteristics and their corresponding values, thereby equipping stakeholders with enhanced understanding of the market to support informed decision–making.

Facial artificial intelligence (AI) skincare applications offer patients simple and effective means of obtaining quantitative information regarding their skin characteristics. Advances in AI may facilitate dermatologic assessments by providing accurate and reliable scores for common skin concerns. The objective of our study was to assess the effect of different lighting on facial characteristic scores produced by an iPad-based AI skin analysis system. Participants were recruited from dermatology clinics. Images were captured using an AI skincare app in different lighting settings: below average lighting (L1), standard room lighting (L2), and enhanced studio lighting (L3). Raw scores produced for twenty facial characteristics were recorded. Higher raw scores indicated better skin health. Scores were compared between the three lighting conditions. Below average lighting had the highest mean raw scores for facial characteristics (79.67 ±10.56). Mean raw scores were lowest for enhanced studio lighting conditions (74.43 ±10.24). The difference in scores produced by the different lighting conditions was not statistically significant (p=0.79). Enhanced studio lighting did not appear necessary as scores were similar without the additional lighting. The application used in our study may serve as a cost-effective and convenient tool both within and outside clinical settings allowing enhanced quantitative analysis of facial characteristics.

Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a rare yet aggressive form of thyroid cancer, comprising a disproportionate share of thyroid cancer-related mortalities despite its low prevalence. MTC differs from other differentiated thyroid malignancies due to its heterogeneous nature, presenting complexities in both hereditary and sporadic cases. Traditional management guidelines, designed primarily for papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), fall short in providing the individualized care required for MTC patients. In recent years, the sheer volume of data generated from clinical evaluations, radiological imaging, pathological assessments, genetic mutations, and immunological profiles has made it humanly impossible for clinicians to simultaneously analyze and integrate these diverse data streams effectively. This data deluge necessitates the adoption of advanced technologies to assist in decision-making processes. Holomics, an integrated approach that combines various omics technologies, along with artificial intelligence (AI), emerges as a powerful solution to address these challenges. AI-driven precision oncology can significantly enhance the diagnostic work-up, staging, risk stratification, management, and follow-up care of MTC patients by processing vast amounts of complex data quickly and accurately. AI algorithms can identify patterns and correlations that may not be apparent to human clinicians, thereby improving the precision of personalized treatment plans. Moreover, the implementation of AI in MTC management enables the collation and synthesis of clinical experiences from across the globe, facilitating a more comprehensive understanding of the disease and its treatment outcomes. This global approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. By leveraging AI and holomics, we can strive towards making personalized healthcare accessible to every individual, regardless of their economic status, thereby improving overall survival rates and quality of life for MTC patients worldwide. In conclusion, the integration of holomics and AI in the management of medullary thyroid carcinoma represents a significant advancement in precision oncology. This innovative approach not only addresses the complexities of a rare and aggressive disease but also paves the way for global collaboration and equitable healthcare solutions, ultimately transforming the landscape of MTC treatment and care.

The significant improvements in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) observed in recent years present Higher Education with both an opportunity and a significant challenge. Its successful integration will require careful planning and sound pedagogical underpinnings, both in regard to learning and teaching, as well as assessment and feedback. Drawing upon theories from the more-than-human world, as well as concepts such as originality, equality, and sustainability, it is possible to develop a dialogue around GenAI that places the students’ learning journey at the heart of the discussion.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are rapidly advancing. These technologies have significantly impacted the consumer goods market, including the smart footwear industry. AI and ML are extensively utilized in the design and production of smart and agile footwear. There are various methods for manufacturing smart footwear, which can be categorized based on their applications. These include medical and healthcare smart footwear, assistive footwear for individuals with impairments, footwear designed for navigation in unfamiliar areas, foot-wear for studying foot movements and gait analysis, safety footwear, anti-skid footwear, foot-wear for the elderly, army shoes, and energy-harvesting footwear, among others. These smart shoes enable real-time patient monitoring and provide appropriate suggestions for their care. Additionally, smart footwear can be classified based on the tools and techniques used in their production, as well as the sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) devices integrated into them. This paper reviews the various tools and techniques used in the creation of smart footwear for dif-ferent applications.

Pain diagnosis remains a challenging task due to its subjective nature, the variability in pain expression among individuals, and the difficult assessment of the underlying biopsychosocial factors. In this complex scenario, artificial intelligence (AI) can offer the potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy, predict treatment outcomes, and personalize pain management strategies. This review aims at dissecting the current literature on computer-aided diagnosis methods. It also discusses how AI-driven diagnostic methods can be integrated into multimodal models that combine various data sources, such as facial expression analysis, neuroimaging, and physiological signals, with advanced AI techniques. Despite the significant advancements in AI technology, its widespread adoption in clinical settings faces crucial challenges. Ethical considerations related to patient privacy, biases, and lack of reliability and generalizability are the main issues. Furthermore, there is a need for high-quality real-word validation as well as the development of standardized protocols and policy rules to guide the implementation of these technologies in diverse clinical settings.

The medical research field has been tremendously galvanized to improve the prediction of therapy efficacy by the revolution in artificial intelligence (AI). An earnest desire to find better ways to predict the effectiveness of therapy with the use of AI has propelled the evolution of new models in which it can become more applicable in clinical settings such as breast cancer detection. However, in some instances, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was obliged to back some previously approved inaccurate models for AI-based prognostic models because they eventually produce inaccurate prognoses for specific patients who might be at risk of heart failure. In light of instances in which the medical research community has often evolved some unrealistic expectations regarding the advances in AI and its potential use for medical purposes, implementing standard procedures for AI-based cancer models is critical. Specifically, models would have to meet some general parameters for standardization, transparency of their logistic modules, and avoidance of algorithm biases. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge about AI-based prognostic methods and describe how they may be used in the future for predicting antibody-drug conjugate efficacy in cancer patients. We also summarize findings of recent late-phase clinical trials using these conjugates for cancer therapy.

Geopolymers, made from aluminosilicate raw materials, offer significant environmental advantages over conventional concrete (CC) mixes. This study explores the compressive strength, setting time, and durability of geopolymer concrete (GPC) cylinders, some of which include an additional ordinary portland cement (OPC) mix. Consistent material composition and testing methods are emphasized to achieve reliable results. MATLAB was utilized to develop and assess a neural network model predicting the compressive strength of GPC based on key variables. The model was validated using 16 experimental samples and 1047 samples from various studies. The performance plot displayed the Mean Squared Error (MSE) over iterations, identifying the best training performance at epoch 658 with an MSE of 5.3408. The Error Histogram highlighted distribution errors between predicted and actual compressive strength values, with the highest range from -1.015 to 0.3587, meaning that the predicted values were mostly within a small margin of error from the actual values. This narrow error range indicates that the ANN model has high accuracy in its predictions, as most errors are small and clustered around zero, demonstrating reliable performance in estimating compressive strength. Regression analysis showed varying correlation coefficients (training set R=0.98373, test set R=0.88164, and whole set R=0.96982), indicating adequate predictive accuracy. The results demonstrate that properly trained neural networks can effectively predict the compressive strength of GPC, highlighting its potential as a sustainable construction material.

The integration of Industry 4.0 technologies in photovoltaic (PV) installations offers significant potential to enhance efficiency, reliability, and economic viability. This study evaluates the technical and economic impacts of implementing the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced data analytics in PV systems within the residential and industrial sectors in the Region of Murcia. Real-time monitoring technologies based on IoT sensors were analyzed to collect data on the operational performance of pilot PV installations. Advanced data analysis techniques, including machine learning, were analyzed to process the collected data, enabling predictive maintenance, performance optimization, and future production estimation. The study also explored the use of drones and computer vision for automated inspection of solar panels, identifying issues such as hotspots and dirt accumulation. The results demonstrate significant improvements in energy efficiency, system availability, and reduction of failures and downtime. Economic analyses indicate cost savings in operation and maintenance and increased overall system reliability. This research identifies key barriers and opportunities for adopting 4.0 technologies in the PV sector and proposes strategies to overcome challenges and leverage benefits. The findings contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the promotion of sustainable and efficient energy systems in the solar industry.

Background: Prediction of neurorehabilitation outcomes after a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is crucial for healthcare resource management and improving prognosis and rehabilitation strategies. Arti-ficial neural networks (ANNs) have emerged as a promising alternative to conventional statistical approaches for identifying complex prognostic factors in SCI patients. Materials: a database of 1256 SCI patients admitted for rehabilitation was analyzed. Clinical and demographics data and SCI characteristics, were used to predict functional outcomes using both ANN and linear regression models. The former was structured with input, hidden, and output layers, while the linear regression identified significant variables affecting outcomes. Both ap-proaches aimed to evaluate and compare their predictive accuracy for rehabilitation outcomes measured by the Spinal Cord Independence Measure (SCIM) score. Results: Both ANN and linear regression models identified key predictors of functional outcomes, such as age, injury level, and initial SCIM scores (correlation with actual outcome: R=0.75 and 0.73, respectively). When alimented also with parameters recorded during hospitalization, the ANN highlighted the importance of these additional factors like motor completeness and compli-cations during hospitalization, showing an improvement in its predictive accuracy (R=0.87). Conclusion: ANN seemed to be not widely superior to classical statistics in general, but, taking into account complex and non-linear relationships among variables, emphasized the impact of complications during the hospitalization on recovery, particularly respiratory issues, deep vein thrombosis, and urological complications. These results suggested that the management of com-plications is crucial for improving functional recovery in SCI patients.

The discovery of the quantum tunnelling effect---the transmission of particles through a high potential barrier---was one of the most impressive achievements of quantum mechanics made in the 1920s. Responding to the contemporary challenges, I introduce a novel deep neural network (DNN) architecture that processes information using the effect of quantum tunnelling. I demonstrate the ability of the quantum tunnelling DNN (QT-DNN) to recognise optical illusions like a human. Hardware implementation of QT-DNN is expected to result in an inexpensive and energy-efficient neuromorphic chip suitable for applications in autonomous vehicles. The optical illusions recognition tests developed in this paper should lay foundations for cognitive benchmarking tasks for AI systems of the future, benefiting the fields of sociophysics and behavioural science.

Robotic systems are increasingly being used in healthcare to improve patient care and support healthcare professionals. These robots are especially effective at performing repetitive tasks. In complex cancer cases, robots can enhance surgical precision and efficiency, resulting in reduced pain for patients and a lower risk of complications. Robot-assisted surgery offers high-quality 3D imaging, improved clarity, and increased efficiency. This review paper examines the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotic systems in the healthcare domain, specifically focusing on the interaction among operators, patients, and robots. The goal is to promote collaboration and improve healthcare provision through human-robot interaction. We considered already published articles by relevance, to identify the primary safety issues that need addressing for the integration of AI and robots in hospitals. Concluding with insights into understanding the focal points of social errors in Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) is crucial for mitigating these errors. While current technologies have reached a certain level of maturity, there are still numerous challenges in utilizing robot-assisted clinical practice, including technological, safety, clinical, financial, insurance, psychological, social, ethical, and legal issues. In addition, there is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed: the alignment of values in artificial intelligence, ensuring that AI systems reflect ethical principles and human values is crucial to avoid negative consequences such as bias, discrimination, and prejudicial decisions. Resolving this complex issue requires collaboration among clinical staff, researchers, programmers, and political decision-makers from various fields.

Incorporating ChatGPT into the classroom has several benefits that improve the educational experience for both teachers and students. ChatGPT seems useful in preparing students for success in the digital age, from personalized learning and increased instructional content to fostering collaboration, enabling bilingual classrooms, and encouraging creativity. This review offers insights regarding the perks of using ChatGPT in education as a tool for students. Among the many benefits of implementing ChatGPT in the classroom are enhanced accessibility, enhanced personalized learning, development of critical thinking skills, administrative support for educators, promotion of collaborative learning, and preparedness for a technologically advanced future. These advantages demonstrate how AI technologies have the capacity to drastically change teaching strategies and outcomes. While problems remain, the benefits of integrating ChatGPT in teaching are enormous. By integrating AI technology, educators may develop more dynamic and individualized learning environments that respond to the demands of 21st-century learners.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death, making timely diagnosis and prognosis very important. Utilization of AI (artificial intelligence) enables providers to organize and process patient data in a way that can lead to better overall outcomes. This review paper aims to look at the varying uses of AI for diagnosis and prognosis and clinical utility. PubMed and EBSCO databases were utilized for finding publications from January 1, 2013, to December 22, 2023. Articles were collected using key search terms such as “artificial intelligence” and “machine learning.” Included in the collection were studies of the application of AI in determining cancer diagnosis and prognosis using multi-omics data, radiomics, pathomics, clinical and laboratory data. The resulting 89 studies were categorized into eight sections based on the type of data utilized and then further subdivided into two subsections focusing on cancer diagnosis and prognosis, respectively. 8 studies integrated more than one form of omics, namely genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, and proteomics. Incorporating AI into cancer diagnosis and prognosis alongside omics and clinical data represents a significant advancement. Given the considerable potential of AI in this domain, ongoing prospective studies are essential to enhance algorithm interpretability and to ensure safe clinical integration.

Mobile applications, websites and social media networks are nowadays widely used communication tools. With the emergence of communication-related technologies in our lives and, consequently, the rise of social networks and mobile applications, health-related applications, generically encompassed under the term digital health, have become popular among the population. Smartphones and artificial intelligence have become very useful tools for health-related interventions. Because they are very accessible and cost-effective. They are also able to serve a larger number of communities than traditional interventions. Nutrition is not a field that has remained on the sidelines, and numerous mobile applications and technological tools have emerged that are intended to help and support diets or in the process of recovering from disease. However, many of these applications have limitations that are important to consider. For this reason, the aim of this review was to analyze the most widely used tools currently in use, discuss their advantages and disadvantages, and propose hypotheses for improvement.

The human voice has the potential to serve as a valuable biomarker for the early detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of pediatric conditions. This scoping review synthesizes the current knowledge on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in analyzing pediatric voice as a biomarker for health. The included studies featured voice recordings from pediatric populations aged 0-17 years, utilized feature extraction methods, and analyzed pathological biomarkers using AI models. Data from 62 studies were extracted, encompassing study and participant characteristics, recording sources, feature extraction methods, and AI models. The review showed a global representation of pediatric voice studies, with a focus on developmental, respiratory, speech, and language conditions. The most frequently studied conditions were Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual disabilities, asphyxia, and asthma. Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients were the most utilized feature extraction method, while Support Vector Machines were the predominant AI model. The analysis of pediatric voice using AI demonstrates promise as a non-invasive, cost-effective biomarker for a broad spectrum of pediatric conditions. However, further research and development are crucial to enhance the accuracy and applicability of these tools in clinical settings.

This scientific article outlines the Artificial Intelligence Integrated Energy Education Framework (AI-IEEF), a transformative model designed to revolutionize energy education and management practices. The framework is organized into five distinct layers: Organizational (AI-enhanced administration systems), Financial (dynamic AI financial models), Technology (advanced simulation and modeling), Methodology (AI in curriculum development and personalized learning), and Social (AI for community engagement and impact). An expert panel used the fuzzy Delphi method to achieve consensus on twenty key factors within these layers, establishing a solid foundation for analysis. Following this, the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was employed to calculate precise weights for each layer and their respective factors, providing a quantitative assessment of their relative importance. These weight calculations are crucial, as they guide resource allocation and strategic decision-making to ensure the framework is optimized for the evolving needs of energy management. Furthermore, the article introduces five tailored variants of the AI-IEEF, each addressing specific aspects of energy education and offering a comprehensive approach to navigating the challenges in the field. The five variants include the Smart Campus Energy Education, Global Energy Policy Analysis, Renewable Energy Research and Development, Energy Workforce Development, and Community Engagement and Outreach variants. Each provides a distinct approach to energy education, from transforming campuses into living labs for hands-on learning to fostering international collaborations that explore the global implications of energy policy. These variants emphasize practical skills, policy analysis, and community-focused solutions, ensuring that students are well-prepared to contribute effectively to the energy sector.

Using the phenomenon of transpiration, plants are able to raise soil water to a height of about 100 meters. According to the Cohesion - Tension theory, water moves through the capillaries of plant along a gradient of negative water potential in a single unified flow along a single route from roots to leaves, entering on its way into living cells for their nutrition and evaporating into the atmosphere in significant amounts in the leaves. The paper shows that in a case of artificial transpiration devices (ATD), the flow of rising water can be divided into two streams - the transpiration stream and the passive water stream - and as a result, such devices become capable of raising water to any given height. As proof, the working variant of two-stream ATD is proposed. The development of this ATD was carried out in two stages, discussed in details in the paper. At the first, experimental stage, a physical model was designed and manufactured, in which the flow of rising water was divided into two streams moving along two independent routes. The first route is used exclusively for the purpose of transpiration of water - transporting it into an artificial evaporator for complete evaporation into the atmosphere. The second route is used exclusively to transport passive water using the energy obtained in the first route during the process of transpiration. During many hours of testing, the physical model demonstrated a stable ability to bring masses of passive water, maintaining normal atmospheric pressure in them, to a small height, even in the extreme case not exceeding 10 meters. At the second, analytical stage, this two-stream model was developed into a two-stream multi-stage model, capable of raising water to any given height by choosing the number of stages. The number of stages can be very large, and portions of water can be delivered to any given height, remaining under normal atmospheric pressure. The conclusion part of the paper discusses the prospects of creating on the basis of the developed two-stream ATDs large systems that can, using the phenomenon of transpiration, become a sources of clean energy, similar to how it is realized in the mass of plants.

The artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the science and engineering of creating intelligent machines for imitating and expanding human intelligence. Given the ongoing evolution of the multidisciplinary integration trend in modern medicine, numerous studies have investigated the power of AI to address orthopaedic-specific problems. One particular area of investigation focuses on the shoulder pathology, which is a range of disorders or abnormalities of shoulder joint, causing pain, inflammation, stiffness, weakness, and reduced range of motion. There has not yet been a comprehensive review of the recent advancements in this field. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to evaluate the current AI applications in the shoulder pathology. This review mainly summarizes several crucial stages of the clinical practice, including predictive models and prognosis, diagnosis, treatment, and physical therapy. In addition, the challenges and future development of AI are also discussed.

Aiming to improve medical diagnosis and treatment, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformational force in the healthcare industry. In this article, we examine how AI is increasingly being used to improve healthcare, with an emphasis on how it is changing medical diagnosis and treatment. We explore the opportunities, threats, and ethical concerns of incorporating AI into healthcare practice. In addition, we feature important AI applications in radiology, pathology, cardiology, and cancer. AI has great potential to improve patient outcomes, diagnostic accuracy, and the ability to provide individualized treatment plans in the future if it is used and refined with care.

The growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Humanity is unavoidable, and therefore, “AI literacy” is extremely important. In the field of education – AI in education (AIED) – this technology is having a huge impact on the educational community and on the education system itself. The present study seeks to assess the level of AI literacy of teachers at Portalegre Polytechnic University (PPU), aiming to identify gaps, find the main opportunities for innovation and development and seek the degree of relationship between the dimensions of AI literacy, as well as identifying the predictive variables in this matter. As a measuring instrument, a validated questionnaire based on three dimensions (AI Literacy, AI Self-Efficacy and AI Self-Management) was applied to a sample of 75 teachers in the various schools of PPU. This revealed an average level of AI literacy (3.28), highlighting that 62.4% of responses are at levels 3 and 4 (based on a Likert scale from 1 to 5). The results also demonstrate that the first dimension is highly significant for the total dimensions, i.e., for AI Literacy, and no factor characterizing the sample is a predictor, but finding a below-average result in the Learning factor indicates a pressing need to focus on developing these skills.
