This paper advances privacy theory through examination of online shaming, focusing in particular on persecution by internet mobs. While shaming is nothing new, the technology used for modern shaming is new and evolving, making it a revealing lens through which to analyze points of analytical friction within and between traditional conceptions of privacy. To that end, this paper first explores the narrative and structure of online shaming, identifying broad categories of shaming of vigilantism, bullying, bigotry and gossiping, which are then used throughout the paper to evaluate different angles to the privacy problems raised. Second, this paper examines shaming through three dominant debates concerning privacy - privacy’s link with dignity, the right to privacy in public places and the social dimension of privacy. Certain themes emerged from this analysis. A common feature of online shaming is public humiliation. A challenge is to differentiate between a humbling (rightly knocking someone down a peg for a social transgression) and a humiliation that is an affront to dignity (wrongly knocking someone down a peg). In addition, the privacy concern of shamed individuals is not necessarily about intrusion on seclusion or revelation of embarrassing information, but rather about the disruption in their ability to continue to participate in online spaces free from attack. The privacy interest therefore becomes more about enabling participation in social spaces, enabling connections and relationships to form, and about enabling identity-making. Public humiliation through shaming can disrupt all of these inviting closer scrutiny concerning how law can be used as an enabling rather than secluding tool.

In today’s fast-paced, modern world, parents often face significant challenges in balancing their professional responsibilities with the demands of child monitoring and nurturing. Our project addresses these challenges by developing an IoT-based Smart Cradle Monitoring System, designed to assist parents in ensuring their child's well-being while they are working. The smart cradle features an automatic swinging mechanism that activates upon detecting the sound of a baby crying, soothing the baby promptly without requiring immediate parental intervention. Additionally, a web camera provides continuous video surveillance, allowing parents to monitor their child remotely in real-time through dedicated alerts. The system leverages IoT technology to connect various components, including an Arduino microcontroller, Raspberry Pi high-sensitivity sound sensors, and a motorized swinging mechanism. This integration ensures seamless operation and remote access, offering peace of mind to working parents. By upgrading traditional cradles with modern electronics, our project provides a reliable and efficient solution that enhances child care, ensuring both the child’s well-being and the parent’s peace of mind. This smart cradle is designed to alleviate the challenges faced by working parents, offering superior results compared to conventional cradles, and helping parents focus on their work while being reassured of their child's safety and comfort.

Exponential increase in the number of individuals using internet has been observed in last ten years. The term "internet addiction" (IA) describes a compulsive behavior associated with any online activity that disrupts everyday social interactions. Main aim of this research was to determine variables and development predictors of Internet addiction. A total of 1,669 respondents participated in this research; 1,040 of them (62.3%) were female, 590 (35.4%) were male, and 39 (2.3%) did not want to declare their gender. The average age of the respondents was 15.09±1.757. Data were collected using an online form consisted of demographic data, questions related to the use of the Internet, the Internet Addiction Scale, and the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris, and San Diego-auto questionnaire version (TEMPS-A) for adolescents. According to the findings of the present study, the relationship between Internet addiction and age, addictive substance use frequency, purpose, time spent on the internet, and type of temperament has been proven. Analysis results indicate that the risk of developing internet addiction is higher if an adolescent spends 1-3 hours and more than 3 hours daily (2.8 and 8.2 times, respectively). Increasing age numbers for 1 unit (year), the risk of internet addiction developing is decreasing by 11.3%. Hyperthymic temperament type decreases the risk of 70.9% of internet addiction developing. It is important to highlight importance of our results since practitioners can utilize our findings to create targeted treatments and prevent internet addiction in adolescents.

Transportation plays an important role in urban development. Population growth and environmental burden have turned the efforts of cities globally towards smarter and greener mobility. Cooperative and Connected Automated Mobility (CCAM) serves as a concept with the power and potential to help achieve these goals building upon technological fields like Internet of Things, computer vision and distributed computing. However, its implementation is hindered by various challenges covering technical parameters such as performance and reliability in tandem with other issues, such as safety, accountability and trust. To overcome these issues, new distributed and decentralized approaches like blockchain and smart contracts are needed. This paper aims at identifying a comprehensive inventory of CCAM challenges and use it as a framework to describe methodologies using blockchain and smart contracts to address them. It provides a comparative analysis of the findings to draw useful conclusions and discuss future directions in CCAM and relevant blockchain applications. The paper contributes to intelligent transportation systems’ research by offering an integrated view of the difficulties in substantiating CCAM and providing insights on the most prominent blockchain and smart contract technologies that tackle them.

Military Internet of Things (MIoT) has emerged as a new research area in military intelligence. The MIoT frequently has to constitute a federation-capable IoT environment when the military needs to interact with other institutions and organizations or carry out joint missions as part of a coalition such as in NATO. One of the main challenges of deploying MIoT in such an environment is to acquire, analyze, and merge huge amounts of data from many different IoT devices and disseminate it in a secure, reliable, and context-dependent manner. In this work, we present a comprehensive solution for secure data dissemination based on the integration of Hyperledger Fabric's distributed registry technology, Apache Kafka message broker, and data processing microservices implemented using the Kafka Streams API library and applying attribute-based encryption (ABE), a cryptographic approach that facilitates controlling access to information based on data and user attributes rather than traditional methods that rely on specific keys. In the work, we built an experimental setup, implemented an access control scheme designed for mobile components, and performed an evaluation of its performance. Performance tests have confirmed the suitability of the developed cryptographic method for attribute-based data access control in MIoT systems, considering the federations of military networks. The results indicate that the proposed cryptographic scheme is viable for the number of attributes typically assumed to be used in battlefield networks, offering a good trade-off between security and performance for modern cryptographic applications.

The tactile Internet (TI) characterises the transformative paradigm that aims to support real-time control and haptic communication between humans and machines, heavily relying on a dense network of sensors and actuators. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising enabler of TI that enhances interactions between sensors and actuators, which are collectively considered as users, thus supports multiple users simultaneously in sharing the same resource block (RB), consequently offering remarkable improvements in spectral efficiency and latency. This article proposes a novel downlink power domain NOMA (PD-NOMA) communication scenario for TI by considering multiple users and a base station. The signal-to-interference noise ratio (SINR), sum rate, and fair power allocation (PA) coefficients are mathematically derived in the NOMA system model. The simulations are performed with two-user and three-user scenarios to evaluate the system performance in terms of bit error rate (BER), sum rate and latency between NOMA and traditional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes. Moreover, outage probability is analysed with varying fixed power allocation (PA) coefficients in the NOMA scheme. Finally, we present the outage probability, sum rate and latency analyses for fixed and derived fair PA coefficients, thus promoting dynamic PA and user fairness by efficiently utilising the available spectrum.

The number of persons immersed in excessive gaming has increased in this age of rapid digitalization. The World Health Organization and American Psychiatric Association Organization recognizes gaming disorder as a disorder that results in significant problems in daily life as a result of excessive gaming. Both organizations emphasize the similarities to behavioral addictions such as gambling. We examined the appropriate usage of video games from the perspectives of health and management in this study. For the general population, video games provide positive impacts such as stress alleviation and memory improvement. Excessive gaming, on the other hand, might lead to addiction. Gaming addiction is often accompanied by psychological disorders and other addictions, necessitating long-term medical treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Therefore, prevention of gaming disorder is essential. From a societal standpoint, action is required at three levels: the government, game developers, and within the household as a whole. Simultaneously, the public needs to be made understand the positive potential of gaming, such as e-sports.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a disruptive technology innovation that has the potential to link billions of gadgets and alter multiple industries. The Internet of Things (IoT) represents a significant advancement in the networking of devices and systems. However, because IoT devices add new attack avenues and vulnerabilities to networks, their rapid proliferation has also caused serious cyber security concerns. The present study investigates the influence of cyber security on the progress of the Internet of Things (IoT), emphasizing the obstacles, prospects, and future paths towards safeguarding the IoT network. This study attempts to shed light on the crucial role that cyber security will play in determining the direction of the Internet of Things through an examination of recent trends, case studies, and research findings.

With the increasingly online exposure of urban public spaces, the new concept of "Internet-celebrity cities" has emerged in China. The online internet-famous sites are the main characteristics of "Internet-celebrity cities". To fully understand online users' preferences in such kind of public spaces, this article took 27 typical riverfront internet-famous sites (RIFS) in Changsha city (China), as an example. Through the online images and review comments on social media platform "Xiaohongshu", the study analyzed users’ perception of RIFS specially on visual and emotional preferences. It revealed the following findings:(1) The popularity of RIFS had a significant head effect and there were far more positive emotions than neutral and negative emotions in review comments. (2) According to 5 different categories of RIFS: modern buildings with river views, restaurants with strong visual impact became the main attractions on commercial RIFS. The art exhibition RIFS attracted visitors to experience traditional culture and highlight their aesthetic pursuits. In the historical and cultural RIFS, people preferred to see the historical buildings with surrounding natural environment, as well as river and mountains views. Ecological Recreational RIFS showed the similar results with the uncultivated RIFS, for the main focus was on the ecological environment, a broader vision and the specific atmosphere. Moreover, the uncultivated RIFS showed more diversified attraction points. This study can provide a new perspective on the waterfront vitality and can offer a targeted and attractive manner for waterfront regeneration that are different from traditional methods.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has a growing presence in society's daily lives. These lightweight devices can be easily deployed and maintained, enabling extensive adoption in different environments. Furthermore, one of the most promising areas for using IoT devices is healthcare, comprising devices referred to as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). Several examples of healthcare services are supported by IoMT devices, e.g., continuous health monitoring. Conversely, there is an increasing concern with the cybersecurity aspects of these devices, and several attacks against IoT infrastructures have been launched in the past few years. These cybersecurity concerns also apply to healthcare applications, where the tradeoff between the benefits and security of IoMT devices must be observed. Given the complexity and amount of data IoMT network traffic generates, advanced methods become especially useful in these environments. Although Machine Learning (ML) brings various techniques and solutions to improve cyberattack detection, prevention, and mitigation, essential features are not addressed in the current state-of-the-art benchmark dataset contributions. Thereupon, the main goal of this research is to propose a realistic benchmark dataset to enable the development and evaluation of IoMT security solutions. In order to accomplish this, 18 attacks were executed against an IoMT testbed composed of 40 IoMT devices (25 real devices and 15 simulated devices), considering the plurality of protocols used in healthcare (e.g., Wi-Fi, MQTT, and Bluetooth). These attacks are categorized into five classes: DDoS, DoS, Recon, MQTT, and spoofing. This effort aims to establish a baseline complementary to the state-of-the-art contributions. The outcome supports researchers in investigating and developing new solutions to make healthcare systems more secure using different mechanisms (e.g., machine learning - ML). This research goes beyond merely conducting attacks on IoMT devices. We also attempt to capture the lifecycle of these devices in different vital phases, from the moment they join the network until they leave, which is called profiling. Profiling allows the different classifiers to identify anomalies of each device individually in the healthcare network. The CICIoMT2024 dataset has been published on CIC's dataset page, making it available for other researchers to use.

The Internet of Things (IoT) technology connects the real world and the network world by integrating sensors and internet technology, which has greatly changed people's lifestyles, showing its broad application prospects. However, traditional materials for the sensors and power components used in IoT limit its development to high-precision detection, long-term endurance, and multi-scenario applications. Metal halide perovskite, with the unique advantages such as excellent photoelectric properties, adjustable bandgap, flexibility, and mild process, exhibiting enormous potential to meet the requirements for IoT development. This paper provides a comprehensive review of metal halide perovskites' application in sensors and energy supply modules within IoT systems. Advances on perovskite-based sensors were discussed as to gas, humidity, photoelectric, and optical sensors. The application of indoor photovoltaics based on perovskite in IoT systems were also discussed. At last, the application prospects and challenges of perovskite-based devices in IoT are summarized.

Introduction: In the year 2022, 4.9 million children died worldwide before five years of age. United Nations General Assembly has set the target of bringing down under-five child mortality to 25 deaths per 1000 live births by 2030. However, the United Nations Inter-Agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation highlights, that without rapid action many low and Lower Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) will not be able to achieve this target and 35 million under-five children will die before 2030. In such a scenario understanding the determinants that bring down preventable deaths in children is important. Design: Anonymized, publicly available data from the India National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) is collected. The sample consisted of 724,115 women in the age group of 15-49 years has been sub-grouped as urban and rural women. Data on the number of Anganwadi centers per state has been collected from the Ministry of Women and Child Development. For better analysis of data, the country is divided into regions. Union territories are grouped in these regions as per their geographical locations. Descriptive statistical analysis, correlation coefficient analysis, and linear regression analysis were done. Results: Results of the Pearson correlation indicated that there is a significantly large positive relationship between operational AWCs (%) and U5MR (r = 0.542, p < .001) whereas there is a significantly large negative relationship between women with Internet access (%) and U5MR, (r = -0.738, p < .001). For our data, the multiple regression equation for y is U5MR (per 1000 live births) = 0.77266. AWCs (%) - 0.58788. women with Internet access (%) + 53.68073. Conclusion: Compared to NFHS-4 (2015-16) U5MR has reduced in almost all states of the country. The study shows more urban women have access to the Internet as compared to rural women. Child mortality is higher in rural areas in every state as compared to urban areas. Urban women have more access to health information because of internet access which may be the reason for lesser child mortality in urban areas compared to rural areas. Internet access for women (individual level) is far more effective in bringing down U5MR if compared to the community-level approach of Daycare centers.

This paper examines the quantitative and qualitative situation of the current fixed and mobile Internet and its expected future. First, the number of users and penetration rate of the Internet, various types of services in different countries, the ranking of countries in terms of the mean and median download and upload Internet data speeds, Internet data volume, and number and location of data centers in the world are presented. The second task introduces and details twelve performance evaluation metrics for broadband Internet access. Third, different wired and wireless Internet technologies are introduced and compared based on data rate, coverage, type of infrastructure, and their advantages and disadvantages. Based on the technical and functional criteria, in the fourth work, two popular wired and wireless Internet platforms, one based on optical fiber and the other based on the 5G cellular network, are compared in the world in general and Australia in particular. Moreover, this paper has a look at Starlink as the latest satellite Internet candidate, especially for rural and remote areas. The fifth task outlines the latest technologies and emerging broadband Internet-based services and applications in the spotlight. Sixthly, it focuses on three problems in the future Internet in the world, namely the digital divide due to the different quality of the Internet and new Internet-based services and applications of emerging technologies, the impact of the Internet on social interactions, and hacking and insecurity on the Internet. Finally, some solutions to these problems are proposed.

Wind power has emerged as a crucial substitute for conventional fossil fuels. The combination of advanced technologies such as the internet of things (IoT) and machine learning (ML) has given rise to a new generation of energy systems that are intelligent, reliable, and efficient. The wind en-ergy sector utilizes IoT devices to gather vital data, subsequently converting them into practical insights. The aforementioned information aids among others in the enhancement of wind turbine efficiency, precise anticipation of energy production, optimization of maintenance approaches, and detection of potential risks. In this context, the main goal of this work is to combine the IoT with ML in the wind energy sector by processing weather data acquired from sensors to forecast wind power generation. To this end, three different regression models are evaluated. The models under comparison include Linear Regression, Random Forest, and Lasso Regression, evaluated us-ing metrics such as coefficient of determination (R²), adjusted R², mean squared error (MSE), root mean squared error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE). After examining a dataset from IoT devices that included weather data, the models provided substantial insights regarding their ca-pabilities and responses to preprocessing, as well as each model's reaction in terms of statistical performance deviation indicators. Ultimately, the preprocessing and the data analysis show that Random Forest regression is more suitable for weather condition datasets than the other two re-gression models. Both the advantages and shortcomings of the three regression models indicate that their integration with IoT devices will facilitate successful energy forecasting.

Abstract: (1) Background: The occurrence of youth aggression has aroused widespread concern, and we would like to explore the reasons for it from both the family and individual sides of the youth. This study constructed a chain mediation model based on Bandura's Social Learning Theory to explore the mechanism of internet gaming disorder and avatar identification in it; (2) Methods: We conducted a randomized survey involving 973 adolescents from various middle schools in China. We used the Harsh Parenting Scale, the Online Gaming Disorder Scale, the Incarnate Identity Scale, and the Buss-Perry Aggression Scale to conduct a randomized survey. Empirical analyses were conducted using SPSS 25.0 and Amos 24.0 software to examine the mediating role of online gaming barriers and avatar identity; (3) Results: There was a two-by-two significant positive correlation between harsh parenting, internet gaming disorder, avatar identification and aggression. The me-diation model between harsh parenting, internet gaming disorder, avatar identification and ag-gression was well fitted ( χ2/df=7.268, GFI=0.961, AGFI=0.923, IFI=0.970, CFI=0.970, TLI=0.951, RMSEA=0.080).; (4) Conclusions: Parental harsh parenting affects adolescent aggression not only through the separate mediating roles of internet gaming disorder and avatar identification, but also through the chain mediating roles of internet gaming disorder and avatar identification.

This paper describes a system that is used to gather data from Smart Home sensors measuring energy consumption, analyze and predict future consumption by using machine learning algorithm for prediction. It focuses on the architecture of the system as well as the need for such system to exist in practice – why the consumption should be measured at all and how that measurement can be put to good use for achieving energy efficiency.

This study explores the potential of a deep-water hydroponic system integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology to enhance the production of Chinese celery (Apium graveolens), a popular leafy vegetable with culinary and medicinal properties. Traditional soil cultivation of Chinese celery can take 75-90 days and is susceptible to fungal diseases. To address these challenges, a 2 x 6 meter hydroponic greenhouse was designed and constructed to accommodate 1,000 plants. The study investigated the effects of two key factors on celery growth and yield: daily light exposure (660 nm wavelength, 6:00-11:00 p.m.) and internal temperature regulation using a fog sprayer when temperatures surpassed 35°C. The experiment was conducted in four separate hydroponic houses, each with different factor controls: House 1 (light and temperature), House 2 (temperature only), House 3 (light only), and House 4 (natural conditions). The IoT-based system maintained optimal water conductivity and pH levels, monitored through the Blynk application and regulated by an ESP32 microcontroller. Sensor data, including water conductivity, pH, internal temperature, humidity, and water temperature, were collected throughout the study. Results revealed significant differences in weight and final yield among the houses, with House 1 achieving the highest yield, 13.91% higher than House 4. A comparison between Houses 2 and 3 indicated that temperature played a more critical role than light in celery cultivation under similar conditions. An economic analysis demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of investing in the automated control system, with House 1 being 14% more profitable than House 4 and a breakeven point achieved at 27 months. This research highlights the benefits of IoT-controlled hydroponic systems in elevating Chinese celery production towards sustainable and efficient practices, offering valuable insights for modern agriculture.

Background- In India, 26 million children are born every year. These Children (0-6 years) comprise 13% of the country's population. Undernutrition is fallout of malnutrition, malabsorption, and nutritional imbalance which causes problem of underweight in children. It can affect child’s brain development and other developmental milestones. Methods- We used anonymized, publicly available secondary data from the India National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5). Descriptive statistical analysis, correlation coefficient analysis, and regression analysis of the data have been done. Results- Multiple linear regression for independent variables, operational AWCs (%) and women with Internet access (%), and dependent variable underweight children per state (%) developed the model, Underweight children (%) = 37.1607 + 0.5659. operational AWCs (%) – 0.2907. women with Internet Access (%). It shows Ꞵ0= 37.1607, Ꞵ1= 0.5659, and Ꞵ2= -0.2907 as well as R squared value as 0.5709. This shows independent variables have a significant influence on the number of underweight children in the state. Results of the Pearson correlation indicated that there is a significant large positive relationship between operational AWCs (%) and the percentage of underweight children in the state, (r(34) = .58, p < .001). Whereas there is a significant large negative relationship between Internet access to women (%) and the percentage of underweight children in the state, (r(34) = .733/-0.733, p < .001). Conclusion- The study clearly shows that when compared, community daycare centers (AWCs) have a limited role in the child's nutrition, but Internet access to the mothers can be a determinant of the child's nutrition. The internet access to women can help to reduce the number of underweight children under five years and improve overall maternal and child health as well as public health.

Classifying network flow subsequences in an Industrial IoT gateway is an effective method for identifying Industrial IoT faults. This paper proposes a subsequence classification algorithm SSGBUL-IKNN based on unsupervised learning encoding to address the problem of low classification accuracy. Firstly, we built a network module based on unsupervised learning to encode the flow sequence of the Industrial IoT gateway. In the encoding module, a subsequence calibration algorithm controls the increasing error during the coding process. Then, the specific fault type is obtained through an improved KNN classification algorithm based on the indication distance source from the integrated coding sequences converted by multi-dimensional network flow sequences. The test result on three Industrial IoT datasets of a sewage treatment plant shows that the accuracy of SSGBUL-IKNN in this paper exceeds 92%, significantly higher than the algorithm DTW and TSF. It reaches the classification requirements of Industrial IoT fault diagnosis.

Background: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a dietary self-care promotion program for hemodialysis patients based on Hurley's self-efficacy model. Methods: The needs of hemodialysis patients were identified, and an online community-based dietary self-care promotion program was developed with expert evaluations. 44 hemodialysis patients were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=22) and a control group (n=22). The program was applied to the experimental group for four weeks. Before and after the intervention, as well as four weeks after the intervention, dietary self-efficacy, dietary self-care behavior, interdialytic weight gain, serum phosphorus, and serum potassium were assessed in both groups. Results: Significant differences over time and between groups were observed in dietary self-efficacy, interdialytic weight gain, serum phosphorus, and serum potassium. The interaction between time and group was also significant. While no significant differences were found over time in dietary self-care behavior, significant group differences and interaction effects between time and group were identified. Conclusions: The results indicate that the dietary self-care promotion program using an online community for hemodialysis patients is more effective in enhancing dietary self-efficacy and dietary self-care behavior compared to conventional treatment. This suggests the clinical applicability of the proposed dietary self-care promotion program.

Tremor is a prevalent neurological disorder characterized by involuntary shaking or trembling of body parts. This condition impairs fine motor skills and hand coordination to varying degrees and can even affect overall body mobility. As a result, tremors severely disrupt the daily lives and work of those affected, significantly limiting their physical activity space. This study developed an innovative Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR) system aimed at assisting individuals with tremor disorders to overcome their physical limitations and expand their range of activities. The system integrates eye-tracking and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, enabling users to smoothly control objects in the real world through eye movements. It employs a virtual stabilization algorithm for stable interaction with objects in the real environment. The study comprehensively evaluated the system's performance through three experiments: 1) assessing the effectiveness of the virtual stabilization algorithm in enhancing the system's ability to assist individuals with tremors in stable and efficient interaction with remote objects; 2) evaluating the system's fluidity and stability in performing complex interactive tasks; 3) investigating the precision and efficiency of the system in remote interactions within complex physical environments. The results demonstrate that the system significantly improves the stability and efficiency of interactions between individuals with tremor and remote objects, reduces operational errors, and enhances the accuracy and communication efficiency of interactions.

This article explores the specific impact of artificial intelligence (AI) -driven data visualisation technologies in the user experience of the Internet industry. Through the introduction of machine learning and data mining technologies, AI has significantly improved the intelligence and automation of data visualization tools, promoting innovation in visualization methods and improving the quality and efficiency of data cleaning, processing, and analysis. In addition, AI has also promoted the development of personalised data visualization, providing users with a richer and more intuitive way to present data. This paper analyses the applications of AI-driven data visualization in machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. It demonstrates the positive effects of AI data visualization on user understanding and optimisation of models through practical feedback from Yellowbrick tools.

The introduction of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has led to major changes in the industry. Thanks to machine data, business process management methods and techniques could also be applied to them. However, one data source has so far remained untouched: The network data of the machines. In the business environment, process mining, for example, has already been carried out based on network data, but the IIoT, with its particular protocols such as OPC UA, has yet to be investigated. With the help of design science research and on the shoulders of CRISP-DM, we first develop a framework for process mining in the IIoT in this paper. We then apply the framework to real-world IIoT network traffic data and evaluate the outcome and performance of our approach in detail. We find tremendous potential in network traffic data but also limitations. Among other things, due to the dependence on process experts and the existence of case IDs.

The study of Internet of Vehicle (IoV) based on Fog Computing (FC) and Artificial Intelligent (AI) has attracted more and more attention. However, there are still many problems require to investigate such as time-critical, scalability, load-balancing, energy consumption, and so on. Focusing on these problems, we proposed an AI-based Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) model for tasks and resource offloading model for IoVs network, which ensures reliable low-latency communication efficient tasks offloading in IoV network by using Software Defined Vehicular based FC (SDV-F) architecture. To fit to time-critical data transmission task distribution, the proposed model reduces unnecessary task allocation at the fog computing layer by proposing an AI-based task-allocation algorithm in IoV layer to implement task allocation of each vehicle. By applying AI technologies of Reinforcement Learning (RL), Markov decision process, and Deep Learning (DL), the proposed model intelligently makes decision on maximizing resource utilization at the fog layer, and minimizing the average end-to-end delay of time-critical IoV applications. The experiment demonstrates the proposed model can efficiently distribute the fog layer tasks while minimizing the delay.

This paper proposes the GD (Geometric Distribution) algorithm, a novel approach to enhance the default Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) mechanism in the Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN). By leveraging the Probability Mass Function (PMF) of the GD model, the GD algorithm effectively addresses massive device distribution challenges in real-life scenarios. To evaluate the algorithm's performance, the LoRaWAN simulations were conducted using the fixed node pattern derived from actual locations of dairy farms in Ratchaburi province, Thailand. The research established scenarios for assessing the network's performance namely, DER (Data Extraction Rate) and SF (Spreading Factor) assignment. Comparative analyses were performed against the uniform random node pattern and established algorithms, including the default ADR scheme, EXPLoRa, Quantile Classification of Variance from the Mean (QCVM), and Standard Deviation (SD). The GD algorithm demonstrated significant improvements over existing methodologies for both fixed and uniform random patterns. The fixed pattern exhibited an enhancement of 14.3%, while the uniform random pattern showed 4.8% enhancement over the default ADR scheme. Further assessments covered the coverage area, payload size, and energy consumption. The GD algorithm consistently achieved the optimal DER values with a coverage area and payload size, albeit often at the expense of increased energy consumption.

The widespread proliferation of sensor nodes in the era of Internet of Things (IoT) coupled with increasing usage of wireless spectrums especially the ISM band makes it difficult to deploy real-life IoT. Currently, the cognitive radio technology enables sensor nodes communicate with each other through the licensed spectrum bands as well as the free ISM bands. Cognitive radio networks (CRSNs) are considered as a promising solution to the problem of spectrum under utilization and artificial radio spectrum scarcity. The paradigm of dynamic spectrum access allows secondary users (SUs) to utilize wireless spectrum resources which belong to primary users (PUs) with minimal interference to PUs. Due to the dynamic spectrum availability and quality, routing for SUs in multi-hop CRSNs is a challenge. In this paper, we introduce novel routing metrics that estimate both the future spectrum availability and the average transmission time with the consideration of both the global statistical spectrum usage and local instant spectrum resources. In our novel routing metrics, one retransmission is allowed and considered to reduce the probability of rerouting upon PU's arrival. Then, we propose two routing algorithms for multi-hop CRSNs. Finally, we conduct simulations, whose results show that our proposed algorithms lead to a significant performance improvement over the reference algorithm.

As technology advances, people are increasingly adopting IoT (Internet of Things) devices in smart cities. These devices are equipped with sensors that are connected everywhere, from energy infrastructure and transportation to telecommunications, health and human services, waste management, public safety, and more. People want to access sensor data anytime and everywhere to make better decisions and improve their lives. To achieve this, a sensor integration model has been developed where multiple sensors are integrated under one gateway to manage and share sensor data. However, effective sharing of sensor data requires data security, privacy, confidentiality, fairness, effective architectural design, and low communication and computation costs. These issues need to be addressed in the sensor integration model in smart cities. Existing storage models face challenges in managing sensor data effectively. To overcome these issues and hurdles, a data storage framework leveraging blockchain technology has been proposed within the sensor integration model. This framework ensures data security, privacy, confidentiality, and a fair and transparent financial model, all while minimizing communication and computation costs.

With buildings accounting for a significant portion of global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) holds promise for enhancing sustainability in the building lifecycle. This systematic literature review addresses the current understanding of AI's potential to optimize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact in building design, construction, and operation. A comprehensive literature review and synthesis were conducted to identify AI technologies applicable to sustainable building practices, examine their influence, and analyze the challenges of implementation. The review was guided by a meticulous search strategy utilizing keywords related to AI application in sustainable building design, construction, and operation. The findings reveal AI's capabilities in optimizing energy efficiency through intelligent control systems, enabling predictive maintenance, and aiding design simulation. Advanced machine learning algorithms facilitate data-driven analysis and prediction, while digital twins provide real-time insights for informed decision-making. Furthermore, the review identifies barriers to AI adoption, including cost concerns, data security risks, and challenges in implementation. AI presents a transformative opportunity to enhance sustainability in the built environment, offering innovative solutions for energy optimization and environmentally conscious practices. However, addressing technical and practical challenges will be crucial for the successful integration of AI in sustainable building practices.

With the inclusion of Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) in both the DSM-5 and ICD-11, understanding the prevalence and diagnostic discrepancies is crucial for developing appropriate interventions. This study presents a meta-analysis of the prevalence of IGD based on two diagnostic criteria. We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science databases. 17 studies were included in the final analysis, The analysis incorporated studies employing the DSM-5 and ICD-11 criteria and focused on the impact of various factors, including study location, sample size, and quality score, on the reported prevalence rates using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity and publication bias were analyzed using an I2 test and Galbraith plots , The prevalence of IGD varied among the selected studies, with a general pooled prevalence of 5% (95% CI: 3%–7%). Subgroup analysis indicated that the prevalence rates of IGD (DSM-5 criteria) and GD (ICD-11 criteria) do not show significant differences. DSM-5-based scales yielded varied results, while heterogeneity among the studies was high (I2 = 98.50). In contrast, ICD-11-based scales produced more consistent and less variable findings. Our findings highlight that assessment scales, not diagnostic criteria, impact IGD prevalence. This underscores the importance of adopting standardized methodologies to guide public health interventions. However, given the limited research based on ICD-11 diagnostic criteria, further investigation is necessary to determine the variations in prevalence rates of IGD under different diagnostic standards.

Protecting sensitive data, such as data collected from sensors, is crucial for ensuring the accurate assessment of sensing devices and preventing unauthorized access. In this regard, Internet of Things (IoT) devices offer a promising alternative for in-situ monitoring. However, IoT sensing devices are often constrained by limited processing power and memory. Therefore, lightweight and efficient security algorithms are essential. This review paper assesses the implementation of lightweight cryptographic algorithms for power-constrained microcontrollers in IoT systems using symmetric cryptography. The implemented algorithms analyze the resource constraints of the IoT devices and compare their performance for efficient implementation of secure monitoring systems. Experimental results demonstrate the performance of various lightweight encryption algorithms on low-power microcontrollers. The analysis reveals the comparative performance of these algorithms in terms of average power and energy consumption, memory usage, latency, and throughput.

The emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is revolutionizing healthcare. This dynamic healthcare environment relies on Internet of Healthcare Things (IoHT) and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) technologies. Economic, social, and technological opportunities from the IoHT are transforming healthcare systems. This article covers the history, present condition, and future prospects of IoHT, as well as its topologies, platforms, services, applications, market trends, and solution types. It examines security issues, requirements, and a threat taxonomy, studying smart healthcare privacy and security. It explores future research and the challenges IoHT-based solutions face. International health rules and regulations based on the IoT and their social and economic effects on long-term development are also examined. Integrating IoMT into healthcare infrastructures enhances scalability, efficiency, reliability, and accuracy. Through communication networks and data-processing algorithms, IoMT creates smart hardware and software platforms that enhance decision-making. IoMT devices' low resources raise privacy and security concerns. Security and privacy issues are organised by healthcare IoMT adoption in this study. We give an extensive attack taxonomy against the IoMT infrastructure, encompassing devices, security mechanisms, and their pros and cons. Furthermore, it describes the privacy and security requirements for any unique security solutions against IoMT's multiple attack vectors. This article explains the complicated difficulties, security concerns, and future research pathways needed to safeguard and ensure the long-term expansion of these game-changing technologies in the healthcare ecosystem.

Robotic-assisted hip and knee arthroplasty represents significant advancements in orthopedic surgery. Artificial intelligence (AI) - driven chatbots, such ChatGP, plays a significant role in healthcare education. This study aims to evaluate the quality of responses provided by ChatGPT to the top 20 questions concerning robotic-assisted hip and knee arthroplasty.We have asked ChatGPT to select the top 20 questions on Google concerning robotic hip and knee arthroplasty and to provide a detailed answer to each of them. The accuracy of the information provided were examined by three orthopedic surgeons with scientific and clinical experience in hip and knee replacement surgery. The accuracy was assessed through a 5-point Likert scale (from 1 – completely incorrect to 5 – correct); the completeness through a 4-point Likert scale (from 0 – comprehensiveness not assessable for completely incorrect answers to 3 – exhaustive information) on two different occasions to ensure the consistency of the assessment. Our analysis reveals that ChatGPT provides a relatively high degree of accuracy, moreover the explanations can be considered satisfy, especially for factual questions. The findings suggest that ChatGPT can serve as a valuable initial resource for general information on robotic hip and knee arthroplasty but the integration with human expertise remains essential.

The agricultural sector is amidst an industrial revolution driven by the integration of sensing, communication, and artificial intelligence (AI). Within this context, the internet of things (IoT) takes center stage, particularly in facilitating remote livestock monitoring. Challenges persist, particularly in effective field communication, adequate coverage, and long-range data transmission. This study focuses on employing LoRa communication for livestock monitoring in mountainous pastures in the north-western Alps in Italy. The empirical assessment tackles the complexity of predicting LoRa path loss attributed to diverse land-cover types, highlighting the subtle difficulty of gateway deployment to ensure reliable coverage in real-world scenarios. Moreover, the high expense of densely deploying end devices makes it difficult to fully analyze LoRa link behavior, hindering a complete understanding of networking coverage in mountainous environments. This study aims to elucidate the stability of Lora link performance in spatial dimensions and ascertain theextent of reliable communication coverage achievable by gateways in mountainous environments. Additionally an innovative deep learning approach was proposed to accurately estimate path loss across challenging terrains. Remote sensing contributes to land-cover recognition, while Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) enhances the path loss model’s precision. Through rigorous implementation and comprehensive evaluation using collected experimental data, this deep learning approach significantly curtails estimation errors, outperforming established models. Our results demonstrate that our prediction model outperforms established models with a reduction in estimation error to less than 5dB, marking a 2X improvement over state-of-the-art models. Overall, this study signifies a substantial advancement in IoT-driven livestock monitoring, presenting robust communication and precise path loss prediction in rugged landscapes.

Cardiovascular disease is a major global health concern, with early detection being critical. This study assesses the effectiveness of the portable ECG device, based on Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) technology, for remote cardiovascular monitoring during daily activities. We conducted a clinical trial involving 2,000 participants who wore the HiCardi device while engaging in hiking activities. The device monitored their ECG, heart rate, respiration, and body temperature in real-time. If an abnormal signal was detected while a physician was remotely monitoring the ECG at the IoMT monitoring center, he notified the clinical research coordinator (CRC) at the empirical research site, and the CRC advised the participant to visit a hospital. Follow-up calls were made to determine compliance and outcomes. Of the 2,000 participants, 318 showed abnormal signals, and 182 were advised to visit a hospital. Follow-up revealed that 139 (76.37%) responded, and 30 (21.58% of those who responded) sought further medical examination. Most visits (80.00%) occurred within one month. Diagnostic approaches included ECG (56.67%), ECG and ultrasound (20.00%), ultrasound alone (16.67%), ECG and X-ray (3.33%), and general treatment (3.33%). Seven participants (23.33% of those who visited) were diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, including conditions such as arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, and stent requirements. The portable ECG device using the patch-type electrocardiograph detected abnormal cardiovascular signals, leading to timely diagnoses and interventions, demonstrating its potential for broad application in preventative health care.

The Internet of Things (IoT) signifies a revolutionary technological advancement, enhancing various applications through device interconnectivity while introducing significant challenges due to these devices' limited hardware and communication capabilities. To navigate these complexities, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has tailored the Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) to meet the unique demands of IoT environments. However, RPL struggles with traffic congestion and load distribution issues, negatively impacting network performance and reliability. This paper presents a novel enhancement to RPL by integrating learning automata designed to optimize network traffic distribution. This enhanced protocol, the Learning Automata-based Load-Aware RPL (LALARPL), dynamically adjusts routing decisions based on real-time network conditions, achieving more effective load balancing and significantly reducing network congestion. Extensive simulations reveal that this approach outperforms existing methodologies, leading to notable improvements in packet delivery rates, end-to-end delay, and energy efficiency. The findings highlight the potential of our approach to enhance IoT network operations and extend the lifespan of network components. The effectiveness of learning automata in refining routing processes within RPL offers valuable insights that may drive future advancements in IoT networking, aiming for more robust, efficient, and sustainable network architectures.

Digital solutions in the field of restorative neurology offer significant assistance, enabling patients to engage in rehabilitation activities remotely. This research introduces ReMoVES, an Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) system delivering telemedicine services specifically tailored for Multiple Sclerosis rehabilitation, within the overarching framework of the STORMS project. The ReMoVES platform facilitates the provision of a rehabilitative exercise protocol, seamlessly integrated into the Individual Rehabilitation Project, curated by a multidimensional medical team operating remotely. This manuscript delves into the second phase of the study, elucidating the technology employed, the outcomes achieved, and the practical, professional, and academic implications. The STORMS initiative, as the genesis of digital telerehabilitation solutions, aims to enhance the quality of life for Multiple Sclerosis patients.

A smart water quality monitoring system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm was designed to protect water resources from pollution in real-time. Long-range (LoRa) application of the low-power, wide-area networking (LPWAN) concept has become a phenomenon in IoT smart monitoring applications. This study proposes the implementation of a LoRa network in a water quality monitoring system-based IoT approach. The LoRa nodes were embedded with measuring sensors pH, turbidity, temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), and dissolved oxygen (DO), in the designated water station. It operates at a transmission power of 14 dB and a bandwidth of 125 kHz. The network properties were tested with two different antenna gains of 2.1 dBi and 3 dBi with three different spread factors (SF) of 7, 9, and 12. The water stations were located at Sungai Pantai and Sungai Anak Air Batu, both rivers on the Universiti Malaya campus. Following a dashboard display and K-means analysis of the water quality data received by the LoRa gateway, it was determined that both rivers are Class II B rivers. The results from the evaluation of LoRa performance on the Received Strength Signal Indicator (RSSI), Signal Noise Ratio (SNR), loss packet, and path loss at best were -83 dBm, 7 dB, &lt; 0%, and 64.41 dB, respectively, with a minimum received sensitivity of -129.1 dBm. LoRa has demonstrated its efficiency in an urban environment for smart river monitoring purposes.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) and the sensing devices are considered part of the core components of the Internet of Things (IoT). Hence, the modeling of IoT-WSNs is fundamental to having a better understanding, management, and deployment of this kind of technology. A fundamental issue in WSN is energy consumption due to the inherent limitations of this resource in the sensor devices. On the other hand, several issues arise in heterogeneous scenarios due to the coexistence of different sensor devices. Therefore, the modeling process becomes challenging and must consider the different transmission and operation cycles and modes that the transmission protocol implements to assure successful functioning in terms of transmission, synchronization, and energy savings. A duty-cycled MAC WSN protocol (PSA-MAC) has been modeled based on a pair of two-dimensional Discrete-Time Markov Chain (2D-DTMC), whose solution in terms of stationary probability distribution is used by expressions that have been derived to evaluate the energy consumption of sensor devices that could be used for WSN-based IoT applications. Analytical results of average energy consumption are obtained, where the synchronization, data, and sleep periods of a full transmission cycle are considered in a heterogeneous scenario with different node classes and priority assignments. Also, the normal and awake operation cycles are considered to assure synchronization and energy savings. Moreover, the transmission schemes of SPT (transmission of single packets) and APT (transmission of packets in aggregation) are also considered in the model. These results are validated through discrete event-based simulations, and the obtained results are accurate.

It addresses the significant challenges in the food industry, such as verifying authenticity and detecting harmful substances. The research highlights the potential of Blockchain to enhance traceability by leveraging its decentralized and secure architecture, which en-sures data integrity and facilitates rapid monitoring throughout the supply chain. The paper also examines the synergy between Blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT), which is critical for real-time tracking in product production. The research conducted has led to a practical demonstration through a web application connected to the Ethereum test network, designed for the quality control of olive oil via smart contracts. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive analysis of Blockchain technology and its transformative potential in ensuring food traceability, particularly for high-value commodities like olive oil.

In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in adopting novel sensing technologies for the continuous monitoring of structural systems. In this respect, Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) sensors are widely used in several applications, including Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). Thanks to their significantly lower cost, ease of installation on the structure, and lower power consumption, they enable extensive, pervasive, and battery-less monitoring systems. This paper presents an innovative high-performance device for SHM applications, based on a low-noise triaxial MEMS accelerometer, providing a guideline and insightful results about the opportunities and capabilities of these devices. Sensor nodes have been designed, developed, and calibrated to meet structural vibration monitoring and modal identification requirements. These components include a protocol for reliable command dissemination through the network and data collection, and improvements to software components for data pipelining, jitter control, and high-frequency sampling. Devices were tested in the lab using shaker excitation. Results demonstrate that MEMS-based accelerometers are a feasible solution to replace expensive piezo-based accelerometers. Deploying MEMS is promising to minimize sensor node energy consumption. Time and frequency domain analysis show that MEMS can correctly detect modal frequencies, useful parameters for damage detection. The acquired data from the test bed were used to examine the functioning of the network, data transmission, and data quality. The proposed architecture has been successfully deployed in a real case study to monitor the structural health of the Marcus Aurelius Exedra Hall within the Capitoline Museum of Rome. The performance robustness was demonstrated and the results showed that the wired sensor network provides dense and accurate vibration data for structural continuous monitoring.

Smart electronic devices and telemedicine are widely used in humans' daily lives. This provides remote treatment of patients using information and communications technology. New telemedicine technologies, such as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), make it easier for medical and computing devices to communicate regularly and effectively. Critical motivations for adapting the IoMT are reduced cost, increased quality of life, and timely medical intervention. IoMT is significant because it enables continuous, real-time patient monitoring during routine everyday activities using a variety of wearables and sensors. With big data, the IoMT technology makes excellent use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support disease detection and health condition prediction, alerting patients and healthcare providers. Many research studies have been conducted to explore various aspects of IoMT and its applications in the real world. However, it is challenging to comprehend all the techniques and solutions proposed by the research community. Therefore, this survey sheds light on some crucial aspects of IoMT technologies and explores the potential research gaps and directions the research community could tackle. The survey examines and discusses the characteristics of IoMT standards, protocols, and types. It then delves into the layers of IoMT and distinguishes them into Fog and edge. The studies published under each type were explored, and the limitations of these works were highlighted. The research gaps and directions on IoMT approaches and technologies were also highlighted. With such findings and research directions, further research endeavors could be carried out to address the issues and existing limitations in the IoMT.

The rapid development of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has brought enormous opportunities to the industrial environment but has also posed significant challenges to network security, especially the physical layer security challenges,which is crucial for the reliable transmission of messages interconnected devices and sensors. Focus on the enhancing the physical layer security in the IIoT communication, this paper proposed a mechanism of Spatial Secrecy Outage Probability (SSOP) to ensure the secure transmission of data. The SSOP algorithm assumes that the location of legitimate device is known, while eavesdropper on the random distribution of device locations, forming the SSOP model related to device locations from the perspective of insecure regions (ISR) and secure regions (SR), and deduce the closed-form expression for its upper bound. Subsequently under the constraint of SSOP conditions, establish an optimization model with the objective of system throughput maximization based on Spatial Secrecy Outage Probability(SRM-SSOP). By optimizing the transmission rate of legitimate channels or controlling the transmission power, the maximization of system throughput can be achieved, thus reducing the consumption of communication resources. Through sophisticated modeling and simulation in the MATLAB, we verified the accuracy of the definition and derived upper bound of SSOP. The experimental results also show that SSOP algorithm gradually converges to a specific value as the number of antenna elements increases. In addition, we observed that when the receiver device is aligned with the normal direction of the transmit antenna array, the SSOP reaches a minimum value. These performance are crucial for understanding and optimizing the security performance of IIoT communication systems.

System-of-systems (SoS) evolution is a complex and unpredictable process. Although various principles to facilitate collaborative SoS evolution have been proposed, there is a lack of experimental data validating their effectiveness. To address these issues, we present an Agent-Based Model (ABM) for SoS evolution in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) , serving as a quantitative analysis tool for SoS research. By integrating multiple complex and rational behaviors of individuals, we aim to simulate real-world scenarios as accurately as possible. To simulate the SoS evolution process, our model employs multiple agents with autonomous interactions and incorporates external environmental variables. Furthermore, we propose three evaluation metrics: evolutionary time, degree of variation, and evolutionary cost, to assess the performance of SoS evolution. Our study demonstrates that enhanced information transparency significantly improves the evolutionary performance of distributed SoS. Conversely, the adoption of uniform standards only brings limited performance enhancement to distributed SoSs. Although our proposed model has limitations, it stands out from other approaches that utilize Agent-Based Modeling to analyze SoS theories. Our model focuses on realistic problem contexts and simulates realistic interaction behaviors. This study enhances the comprehension of SoS evolution processes and provides valuable insights for the formulation of effective evolutionary strategies.

This paper presents a co-designed solution aimed at improving community healthcare assistance management. To enhance patients’ self-awareness of their health status, encouraging active participation in care process, and to support nurses in delivering patient-centered care, we have developed an innovative platform with a highly customized app. This platform was designed using a multi-disciplinary bottom-up approach. Patient data collection and processing facilitate the automation of care timeline planning, based on real time patients’ needs and the available resources. To achieve this goal different components have been considered: real-time health data collection and processing, patient care planning, decision support for nurses, secure communication for data transmission, and user-friendly interfaces to ensure easy access to platform functionalities.

This study discussion point of this paper is to make an in-depth analysis of the development impact of the Internet of Things combined with edge computing and artificial intelligence. In the analysis process, the importance and criticality of data processing and decision making of edge computing as well as the challenges faced should be elaborated respectively. With the rapid popularization and development of Internet of Things devices, edge computing has brought more innovative solutions for different application scenarios such as intelligent furniture industrialization, automatic driving and intelligent transportation by reducing the delay of processing data and improving the characteristics of security data, film and television. Resource and energy efficiency have certain limitations, so it is necessary to combine artificial intelligence to enhance edge computing devices, hardware accelerators, and its utility and federated learning technologies, which can effectively improve the performance and scalability of edge computing and promote the development of more self-service network systems for smart devices. The core of this study is how to promote the Internet through AI-driven edge computing to further develop and provide insights for research priorities and suggest related future research directions.

With online wildlife trade increasing and viral videos increasing demand, the trade in primates on TikTok is becoming more prevalent. Despite wildlife trade being banned on most social media platforms, the trade in primates persists. TikTok’s policies ban the sale of live animals, and specific terms related to wildlife trade are banned; however, these search term bans are easy to get around, and sellers are still prolific on the site. This study documented primates for sale on TikTok using the search term “for sale monkey” over a four-month period (from mid-July to mid-November 2023) with the aim of determining how widespread primate trade is on TikTok, the legality of advertisements, and which countries advertise the most primates for sale. 42 individual advertisements were identified, spanning 6 different genera of primates and 5 different countries. Spider monkeys, rhesus macaques, and common marmosets were found to be the most commonly advertised species on TikTok. All spider monkeys were advertised from the USA, while the majority of the marmosets were advertised from the UK, and all of the rhesus macaques were advertised from Pakistan. The USA was the only country identified in this study that advertised a range of species, and the only species found in this study that was not advertised in the USA was the mona monkey. 44% of all species recorded were classified as either Endangered or Critically Endangered, and it was found that endangered species were more frequently sold illegally than non-endangered species. The findings of this study underline a need for stricter primate legislation and wildlife law enforcement, especially if the UN’s sustainable development goals are to be achieved by 2030. They also show a need for TikTok to broaden their restrictions on wildlife trade on their app.

Background: IoT and Big Data are newer technologies that can provide substantial support for healthcare systems and help overcome their shortcomings. The aim of this paper was to analyze literature production descriptively, thematically, and chronologically from an interdisciplinary perspective in a holistic way to identify the most prolific research entities and themes. Methods: The synthetic knowledge synthesis qualitatively and quantitatively analyzes the production of literature through a combination of descriptive bibliometrics, bibliometric mapping and content analysis. For this analysis the Scopus bibliometric database was used. Results: In the Scopus database, 2272 publications were found, which were published between 1985 and June 10, 2024. The first article in this field was published in 1985. Until 2012 the production of literature was steady increasing, after that exponential growth began, which reached its peak in 2023. The most productive countries were the USA, India, China, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Germany and Italy. The content analysis resulted in 8 themes (four from the perspective of computer science and four from the perspective of medicine) and 21 thematic concepts (eight from the perspective of computer science and 13 from the perspective of medicine). Conclusions: The results show that IoT and Big Data have become key technologies in preventive health. The study outcomes might represent a starting point for the further development of research that combines multidisciplinary aspects of healthcare.

Floods, recognized for their erratic behavior and devastating effects, are a significant threat as a natural disaster. In Brunei Darussalam, the impact of climate change is becoming increasingly evident through higher temperatures and an expected increase in annual rainfall (5.0mm per year from 2021 to 2050), highlighting the critical need for updated flood risk management techniques. In line with the climate resilience and adaptation objectives of WAWASAN 2035, this paper introduces an innovative approach—a cutting-edge flood risk management framework that utilizes the capabilities of big data analytics, sophisticated machine learning algorithms, and smart Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. Traditional methods, which rely on numerical and physical data modeling, often do not provide precise short-term flood forecasts. Our suggested framework uses machine learning to analyze real-time flood forecasting, sensor data and enhance warning systems, addressing the shortcomings of traditional approaches. The key advantage of this approach is its potential to drastically decrease flood-related damages, protect lives, and boost infrastructure resilience. This proposal is not only in aligns with Brunei's vision for a safe and climate-adaptable future but also marks a significant step forward in adopting innovative and sustainable flood risk management solutions amidst an evolving climate.

In the industrial sector, intelligent sensors in fault diagnosis are becoming more critical in recent technological improvements. The prediction accuracy can be enhanced in fault diagnosis using 3-dimensional, sequential, real-time, and image data. Sensors that capture the vibration, sound, and image data are more critical in predicting unbalancing, tool wear, crack, misalignment, etc, in the rotating machinery to increase productivity and to provide an effective maintenance management system. Due to the fast development of industry 4.0 techniques, monitoring of mechanical machinery is experiencing explosive growth and getting more attention in the area of fault diagnosis (FD). Machine learning and Deep learning methods give promising results and accuracy in predicting faults in rotating machinery on shop floors. The success of AI-based models is due to the availability of comprehensive labeled data. Federated Learning (FL) is the machine learning subfield aiming to train an algorithm with a heterogeneous dataset. Data transmission from local facilities to a central server in AI models creates data privacy and security issues. Heterogeneous data analysis is a complicated process in predicting the machine fault in the central server because of millions of data during real-time condition monitoring. Decentralized data handling and analysis is mandatory in condition monitoring because of heterogeneity in data processing, data privacy, and security advantages. The application of federated learning in fault diagnosis has been getting more attention in recent days, and this study is a review of FL applications that address fault diagnosis in rotating machinery in the first phase. A comparison between the types of FL approaches in FD and the use of aggregation algorithms and their applications will also be discussed in Phase 1. In phase 2, a novel methodology has been proposed using Federated learning to diagnose rotating machinery faults. The proposed method, FLOACOS, addresses how prediction challenges are solved using federated learning approaches by optimizing and standardizing the data at local facilities. This work will be helpful for future condition monitoring researchers and gives an overview of a novel method of the FL technique used in predicting faults and the progress made in the maintenance management of rotating machinery.

Modern advances in technology have increased the demand for traditional accounting systems to be upgraded for real-time data processing, security, and standardized reports. Thus, this paper proposes a new accounting information system that integrates IoT, blockchain, and XBRL. The proposed system aims to automate the accounting process by using IoT to collect data and send it automatically to a blockchain, which acts as a database that will generate journal entries automatically through smart contracts. XBRL will then be used as an output method for standardized financial reports based on the data transferred from the blockchain. This paper uses a qualitative research design based on semi-structured interviews with 13 industry experts from IT engineering, academia, and financial systems analysis. NVivo software was used to conduct a thematic analysis of interview transcripts. The findings revealed the technical feasibility, challenges, and benefits of the proposed integration and identified the most efficient mechanism for data transmission across the three technologies. The paper concluded that while integration complexity and user adoption are challenging, this integrated system can revolutionize accounting by enabling real-time data capture, automation of essential operations, data security, and integrity improvements. To our knowledge, this is the first paper to develop a comprehensive accounting information system framework using IoT, blockchain, and XBRL to automate data collection, improve data security, and streamline financial reporting. The study's potential to impact accounting systems and financial reporting research and practice emphasizes its importance.

The emerging and promising paradigm of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) employ vehicle-to-everything communication for facilitating vehicles to not only communicate with one another but also with the supporting roadside infrastructure, vulnerable pedestrians, and the backbone network in a bid to primarily address a number of safety-critical vehicular applications. Nevertheless, owing to the inherent characteristics of IoV networks, in particular, of being (a) highly dynamic in nature and which results in a continual change in the network topology and (b) non-deterministic owing to the intricate nature of its entities and their interrelationships, they are susceptible to a number of malicious attacks. Such sort of attacks, if and when materializes, jeopardizes the entire IoV network, thereby putting the human lives at risk. Whilst the cryptographic-based mechanisms are capable of mitigating the external attacks, the internal attacks are extremely hard to tackle. Trust, therefore, is an indispensable tool since it facilitates in the timely identification and eradication of malicious entities responsible for launching internal attacks in an IoV network. To date, there is no dataset pertinent to trust management in the context of IoV networks and the same has proven to be a bottleneck for conducting an in-depth research in this domain. The manuscript-at-hand, accordingly, presents a first of its kind trust-based IoV dataset encompassing 96,707 interactions amongst 79 vehicles at different time instances. The dataset involves 9 salient trust parameters, i.e., packet delivery ratio, similarity, external similarity, internal similarity, familiarity, external familiarity, internal familiarity, reward / punishment, and context, which play a considerable role for ascertaining the trust of a vehicle within an IoV network.

We aimed to assess the prevalence, content structure and psychological comorbidity of PIU in Russian adolescents. In addition, the design of our research provided an opportunity to compare demographic and psychological patterns of different forms of PIU: generalised (PIUgen) and specific – problematic video game use (PUgame) as well as problematic social media use (PUsocial). Methods: This is a one-stage cross-sectional observational study of school sampling in three major Siberian cities. A total of 4514 schoolchildren aged 12-18 (mean age 14.52±1.52 years) were surveyed. Chen Internet Addiction Scale, Game Addiction Scale for Adolescents”, and The Social Media Disorder Scale were used to identify PIU and its types. Results: The prevalence of PIUgen among adolescents in Central Siberia was 7.2%; the prevalence of PUgame was 10.4%; the prevalence of PUsocial was 8.0%. The results of structural equation modelling, as well as the correlation analysis data, suggest two possible patterns of psychosocial problems with PIU – the first one characteristic of both PIUgen and PUsocial, the second one, significantly different, – of PUgame. Conclusions: Urban adolescents in Central Siberia do not differ significantly from their Asian and European peers. Our findings support the concept of rejecting the term “generalised PIU” as a single psychological construct.

The aim is to use these technologies to focus on unnecessary breakdowns and increase levels of asset availability where the existing of a dedicated team to maintain or data on asset condition is limited, useless or full of noise. This paper presents the integration of various sensing nodes within an automated laser cutting machine for monitoring of critical components’ conditions. The integrated system provides a centralised platform for data collection from various sensors and provides early failure detection mechanism based on specified set points with alert mechanisms utilising a custom dashboard for data visualisation. The research highlights the required stages for the identification of the appropriate components and sensory devices for the development of efficient monitoring environment.

It is not plausible to predict disasters; however, still the least that may be done is to get ready for that. In disaster circumstances, nowadays, the existing internet of things (IoT) technology is rather developed and capable of being highly beneficial. For many countries, the early warning system for natural catastrophes is a crucial challenge, especially for high seismic hazard countries. Primary function of an early warning system is to assist individuals and authorities to save lives and reduce secondary damage once a disaster occurs. Even though such systems have been defined for the earthquake on the basis of IoT, the least attention has been focused on the post decisions for substructure monitoring systems which can control the gas and electric lifelines given the critical time. Combination of Fuzzy system with IoT can improve the decision making process after the disasters occur. This program minimizes costs and destruction in cities. Tehran is a high seismic hazard area which contains an expanded network of the gas transmission system. Hence, a major seismic event may cause serious loss directly and indirectly owing to the damage to the gas and electric transmission network. The proposed early warning system contains a grid of strong ground motion stations. Each station contains five sensors to collect accurate data and send the data to the cloud server, then the server executes relevant scenarios.

This survey delves into cross layer energy-efficient solutions and cutting-edge security measures for Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The conventional security techniques are considered inadequate, leading to the suggestion of AI-powered intrusion detection systems and novel strategies such as blockchain integration. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review and analysis of secure and energy efficient cross-layer framework for IoT.We highlight the significance of developing IoT security for robust and sustainable connected systems. We discuss multi-layered security approaches and ways to enhance energy efficiency of resource-constrained devices in IoT networks. Finally, we identify open research issues and future research directions in the emerging field ofcross-layer design for secure and energy efficient IoT networks. We expect this study will stimulate further research endeavors to build a secure and energy-efficient framework for next-generation IoT systems.

An investigation was carried out to study the effects of television and internet on academic performance of senior secondary schools students in Rigachukun Inspectorate of Kaduna state. A well structured and designed questionnaire was adopted in eliciting information from the respondents. The respondents were sampled from schools within Kaduna state. The information obtained showed that the percentage of senior secondary school students who made use of internet for academic purpose was as much as those who could not operate a computer or even browse the internet. Good number of students applied internet mostly through phones and computer with internet access in solving their assignment. A larger percentage of students devoted their time to watching non-educative programs on television, even though it was discovered that some of them also watch educative programs. Positive impacts of television and internet are however obscuring and not glaring. Investigation carried out revealed that students in senior secondary schools need to be sensitized and oriented on how they can derive the best from internet and television. Schools should be encouraged in using television and internet as an instrument of learning and teaching.

Nowadays, people live amidst the smart home domain, business opportunities in the industrial smart city and health care, though, along with concerns about security. Security is central for IoT systems to protect sensitive data and infrastructure, whilst security issues become increasingly expensive, in particular in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) domains. Nonetheless, there are some key challenges for dealing with those security issues in IoT domains: Applications operate in distributed environments such as Blockchain, varied smart objects are used, and sensors are limited in what comes to machine resources. In this way, traditional security does not fit in IoT systems. In this vein, the issue of cyber security has become paramount to the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) in mitigating cyber security risk for organizations and end users. New cyber security technologies / applications present improvements for IoT security management. Nevertheless, there is a gap on the effectiveness of IoT cyber risk solutions. This review article discusses the, trends around opportunities and threats in cyber security for IIoT.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing manufacturing, serving as a digital makeover tool that collects essential production data. The transition to IoT generates vast data volumes, requiring robust storage and system architecture. Cloud computing steps in here, accommodating these needs with ease. In this setup, a network of sensors across a manufacturing unit captures valuable data, which is transmitted to the cloud. Specialized software then transforms this data into operational performance insights. This digital integration can elevate a manufacturing business, coalescing with existing systems to deliver remarkable results. As the IoT gains popularity, digital manufacturing is poised to soar. However, security has become a paramount concern, especially for retrofitted IoT devices operating with limited human intervention. Researchers have proposed various solutions for IoT security issues. In this study, we conduct a literature review (LR) to identify the security requirements for retrofitting IoT devices in manufacturing. Our goal is to provide a straightforward roadmap for industry stakeholders, highlighting the most suitable security solutions for their retrofitted IoT systems. Our review focuses on scientific papers from the past four years, specifically addressing the security and simplicity of retrofitted IoT architecture in manufacturing. The overarching aim is to define the security needs for IoT retrofitted devices in manufacturing, facilitating the smooth integration of process data into cloud platforms.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized various industries, but the increased dependence on all kinds of IoT devices and the sensitive nature of the data accumulated by them pose a formidable threat to privacy and security. While traditional Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) have been effective in securing critical infrastructures, the centralized nature of these systems raises serious data privacy concerns, as sensitive information is sent to a central server for analysis. This research paper introduces a Federated Learning (FL) approach designed for detecting intrusions in diverse IoT networks that addresses the issue of data privacy by ensuring that sensitive information is kept in the individual IoT devices during model training. Our framework utilizes the Federated Averaging (FedAvg) algorithm, which aggregates model weights from distributed devices to refine the global model iteratively. The proposed model manages to achieve above 90\% accuracy across various metrics, including precision, recall, and f1-score, while maintaining low computational demands. The results show that the proposed system successfully identifies various types of cyber attacks, including DoS, DDoS, Data Injection, Ransomware, and several others showcasing its robustness. This research makes a great advancement to the intrusion detection systems by providing an efficient and reliable solution that is more scalable and privacy friendly than any of the existing models.

Lithium-ion batteries have gained immense popularity in electric vehicles(EVs) due to their high energy density, offering an extended driving range. This has made them the preferred choice in the automotive industry, driving the shift towards EVs. However, alongside their popularity, safety concerns have arisen. The main issues include the potential for thermal runaway leading to fires or explosions, which can occur due to overcharging, physical damage, or manufacturing defects. While safety features and rigorous testing aim to mitigate these risks, ongoing research and development focus on enhancing safety measures to further ensure the reliability and safety of lithium-ion batteries in EVs. This paper focuses on the development and deployment of a real-time monitoring dashboard for Li-ion battery health monitoring using STM32 Microcontroller within the framework of Industry 4.0. Leveraging advanced sensor technology and data analytics, the dashboard provides continuous, comprehensive insights into battery performance, including state of charge and temperature. Integrating with Industry 4.0 principles, such as IoT, the system enables predictive maintenance, optimizing production processes and ensuring efficient utilization of resources. The implementation showcases the integration of real-time monitoring tools for Li-ion batteries, aligning with the transformative paradigms of Industry 4.0 to enhance operational efficiency and reliability within industrial settings.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept based on the integration of various devices and methods of communication to exchange information in order to contribute to the improvement of everyday life, business and environment. This paper focuses on the establishment of a modern Internet of Things platform to ensure secure collection, processing and storage of data, under unexpected events. This platform establishes reliable connectivity which enhance system uptime; the key to success when implementing an IoT strategy. For this purpose, we proposed a hybrid approach combining different connectivity technologies to ensure the availability and smooth operation of the system and the prevention of data loss in unforeseen cases.

Thanks to the rapid advancements in Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) and vehicular communication, the concept of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and big data technologies promotes the vision of an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). By enabling a comprehensive data exchange platform, ITS is critical in enhancing road safety, traffic efficiency, and the overall driving experience. However, the open and dynamic nature of IoV networks brings significant performance and security challenges to IoV data acquisition, storage, and usage. To comprehensively tackle these challenges, this paper proposes a Decentralized Digital Watermarking framework for smart Vehicular networks (D2WaVe). Specifically, D2WaVe consists of two core components: FIAE-GAN, a novel feature-integrated and attention-enhanced robust image watermarking model based on a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), and BloVA, a Blockchain-based Video frames Authentication scheme. By leveraging an encoder-noise-decoder framework, trained FIAE-GAN watermarking models can achieve the invisibility and robustness of watermarks that can be embedded in video frames to verify the authenticity of video data. Then, BloVA ensures the integrity and auditability of IoV data in the storing and sharing stages. Experimental results based on a proof-of-concept prototype implementation validate the feasibility and effectiveness of our D2WaVe scheme for securing and auditing video data exchange in smart vehicular networks.

With the widespread use of the Internet of Things, underwater control and monitoring systems for purposes such as ocean data sampling, natural disaster prevention, underwater surveillance, submarine exploration, and the like have become a popular and challenging topic in computers. So far, various topology control and routing solutions have been proposed for these networks. However, as technology expands and applications grow, so does the need for a stable underwater communication platform. On the other hand, underwater communication is associated with challenges such as node mobility, long propagation delays, low bandwidth, limited resources, and high error rates. In this research, for the first time, a topology control platform based on the RPL tree is modelled by applying its structural changes underwater. The proposed RPLUW methods in the case of RPLUWM fixed nodes are introduced to support the mobility of nodes underwater. Flexible objective functions, utilisation of decision-making systems, and application of control schedules in these methods have increased network life, reduced overhead, and increased node efficiency. The simulation results of the proposed method, in comparison with recent methods in this field, show an increase in network efficiency.

This paper compares Demand Response algorithms suitable for Short-term Forecasting based on Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). It selects ARIMA (AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average), SARIMA (Seasonal ARIMA), LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), and SVM (Support Vector Machine) as the primary research algorithms and delves into their theoretical foundations and functional characteristics. The theoretical background section explores each algorithm’s applicability in analyzing time-series data, recognizing nonlinear patterns, and solving optimization and classification problems. The methodology section will detail the methods of AMI data collection, the implementation of the algorithms, and the experimental setup. In the experiments and results section, the performance of each algorithm will be assessed by applying AMI data and presenting the outcomes of comparative analyses, with a focus on evaluating the predictive accuracy of the algorithms. The discussion will interpret the experimental results, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of each algorithm and their applicability in the AMI system. It will also explore the limitations of the current research and directions for future research. The conclusion will summarize the key findings of the study and affirm how this research contributes to understanding and improving short-term forecasting and demand response systems based on AMI.

The Internet has become an essential tool for adolescents. It is part of their social integration within peers and supports their identity construction. The Internet can also become a source of addiction; especially when used as a coping strategy towards unpleasant life situations. The feeling of loneliness is an emotion present during the adolescence. However, when in excess, it can lead to suicidal ideations. We questioned ourselves on the impact of an excessive use of the Internet by adolescents, with their feeling of loneliness and the risks of suicidal ideations. We attempted to find an answer to this question by performing a literature review. We found one result matching our search criteria’s, which is itself a literature review. We noted the absence of studies with regards to the interaction between the feeling of loneliness, the addiction to the Internet, and the risk of suicidal ideations amongst adolescents. We established a theoretical model which could be used as a lead for future research. We insist on the importance that studies are made in this domain, in order to enable us to establish efficient preventive measure on the risks of suicidal ideations amongst adolescents.

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) represents a transformative technology that connects medical devices, sensors, and healthcare systems to enable real-time monitor-ing, data sharing, and advanced decision-making in healthcare. While the technical and clinical potential of IoMT has been explored extensively, research on the funding patterns and their implications remains sparse. This paper analyzes funding in IoMT research using bibliometric methods to assess the spatial dimensions of funded and non-funded research across different countries and regions. By employing Synthetic Knowledge Synthesis (SKS), the study triangulates quantitative and qualitative ap-proaches to provide insight into research trends, thematic differences, and the rela-tionship between funding and healthcare outcomes such as the Global Health Index (GHI). The results reveal that funded research exhibits higher publication rates in high-impact journals and is more concentrated in countries with stronger healthcare systems and higher R&D expenditures. However, countries with lower healthcare in-vestments are also increasingly contributing to IoMT research, likely in pursuit of im-proving healthcare outcomes. Thematic analysis shows that funded projects empha-size artificial intelligence applications in e-health and telemedicine, while non-funded research tends to focus on IoMT's role in pandemic management. These findings pro-vide insights into the global landscape of IoMT research funding and its impact on public health advancements.

A large number of smart devices (things) are being deployed with the swift development of Inter- net of Things (IOT). These devices, owned by different organizations, have a wide variety of services to offer over the web. During a natural disaster or emergency (i.e., a situation), for example, relevant IOT services can be found and put to use. However, appropriate service matching methods are required to find the relevant services. Organizations that manage situation responses and organizations that provide IOT services are likely to be independent of each other, and therefore it is difficult for them to adopt a common ontological model to facilitate the service matching. Moreover, there exists a large conceptual gap between the domain of discourse for situations and the domain of discourse for services, which cannot be adequately bridged by existing techniques. In this paper, we address these issues and propose a new method, WikiServe, to identify IOT services that are functionally relevant to a given situation. Using concepts (terms) from situation and service descriptions, WikiServe employs Wikipedia as a knowledge source to bridge the conceptual gap between situation and service descriptions and match functionally relevant IOT services for a situation. It uses situation terms to retrieve situation related articles from Wikipedia. Then it creates a ranked list of services for the situation using the weighted occurrences of service terms in weighted situation articles. WikiServe performs better than a commonly used baseline method in terms of Precision, Recall and F measure for service matching.

Buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of global energy consumption, putting pressure on the construction industry to mitigate its environmental impact. Therefore, there is an urgent need for innovative solutions to reduce power consumption, particularly in lighting systems. The study’s primary objective was to investigate novel integrated lighting solutions that significantly reduce energy use and they explore their enhancement through Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to further improve energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint in buildings. Hence, this literature review aimed to examine energy-saving actions, retrofitting practices and interventions across a range of multi-use buildings worldwide over the past six years. The objective was to diagnose the goals being undertaken and ultimately validate new actions and contributions to minimise energy consumption. First, daylight harvesting and retrofitting solutions were examined in conjunction with the latest technologies, also referred to the external shadings. In consequence of this matter, comes the lack or unappropriated coordination, and so waste of energy, between daylight and electrical lighting. Secondly, how the integration of BIM facilitates the design process, providing a complete overview of all the variables of the building, thus improving indoor daylight performance and proper lighting with energy analysis. Lastly, the review addresses the role of IoT in providing real-time data from sensor networks, allowing for continuous monitoring of building conditions. This systematic literature review explores the integration of the fields to address the urgent need for innovative strategies and sustainability in the built environment. Furthermore, it thoroughly analyses the current state of the art, identifying best practices, emerging trends and concrete insight for architects, engineers, and researchers. The goal is to promote the widespread adoption of low-carbon systems and encourage collaboration among industry professionals and researchers to advance sustainable building design.

The Metaverse of Things (MoT) is an advanced technology that has the potential to revolutionise urban living in the present era. This article explores the advantages, uses, and transformative outcomes of MoT in smart cities. The covered subjects encompass sustainability, urban planning, citizen participation, infrastructure management, and various more. MoT integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) with metaverse technologies. Cities that can efficiently distribute this data can enhance public safety, optimise energy usage, regulate traffic, and manage waste properly. MoT apps that utilise immersive technologies and the IoT can be used to generate more intelligent and captivating cityscapes. Balancing the levels of ammonia, in poultry facilities plays a role in enhancing the welfare and productivity of animals. Various environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, ammonia concentrations, carbon dioxide concentration and exposure to light have an impact on the wellbeing and efficiency of poultry. It is essential to monitor these elements to achieve outcomes necessitating practical, reliable and cost-effective solutions. Leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT) in conjunction with LoRa-WAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) technology presents an opportunity in the industry by enhancing connectivity among devices and facilitating real time data transmission. This research introduces a hardware and software setup for monitoring conditions at poultry farms through LoRa WAN and IoT technologies. More-over researchers employed Random Forest Machine Learning prediction models to tune the concentration of Ammonia (NH3) in poultry facilities across a wide area or multiple Poultry houses. Comparative assessments were conducted to evaluate the proposed system against devices revealing a correlation exceeding 0.9830 between the sensors and standard equipment while costing 28% less than traditional tools. The prototype displayed outcomes underscoring its potential, for managing poultry facilities across multiple farms with centralized oversight.

The fish supply chain (FSC) industry faces a significant challenge in terms of maintaining fish quality and authenticity throughout the chain. The main goal of modern FSC systems is tracking and tracing the fish product at each stage, from harvester to end customer, as well as assessing its quality and authenticity. Integrating FSC with new technologies, such as Blockchain (BC), Big Data, Artificial intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT), enhances fish product traceability, authenticity, visibility, and security. We propose a BC-based FSC framework that follows a layered architecture consisting of a SC layer, an IoT layer, and a BC layer. We integrate a new AI-based hand-held device, a Quality, Adulteration & Traceability (QAT) device, that can identify fish species and assess fish quality. We leverage the key features of BC and smart contracts, deployed over the Ethereum platform for the proposed framework integrated with QAT technology. Extensive validation of smart contracts is conducted to prove its practical feasibility.

The new coronavirus SARS Cov2 disease from 2019. (COVID-19), started as a cluster of unexplained pneumonia cases in Wuhan in December 2019, has spread globally and caused a serious public health threat. People were scared due to the COVID-19 cases that were rapidly increasing all over the world and the quick changes in how people lived. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected various aspects of life, one of which is the increased use of the internet, especially social media platforms. Past research has clearly linked a pandemic with signs of stress, depression, anxiety, and suicide thoughts, as well as with excessive internet use. The findings of research conducted around the world indicate that the higher the level of stress associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in an individual, the greater the tendency to develop an addiction to the internet. The aim of this paper was to provide a brief overview of the available scientific findings on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and internet addiction. Methods: A sweep through available literature was performed using the database Medline via the PubMed interface for articles written in English, using keywords and MeSH terms "Internet addiction", "mental health" and "COVID-19". Results: With insight into the scientific literature on COVID-19, mental health, and internet addiction, we have concluded that during the COVID-19 pandemic, time spent on the internet increased. Conclusion: Additionally, due to reduced social activities, above mentioned consequently led to internet addiction and thus to psychological distress, increased loneliness and depression.

Using data from the China Family Panel Studies, this study examines the socioeconomic characteristics of Internet users, as well as the relationships between the dynamics of different forms of online activities and the subjective well-being of urbanites and rural migrants in urban China. The study finds that online behaviour may clearly reflect differences in individuals’ personal traits and socioeconomic positions. Patterns of the association between online activities and subjective well-being tend to differ among rural migrants and urbanites, especially in terms of depression. A difference-in-differences model is employed to estimate the impact of intensified engagement in online activities on depression and life satisfaction from 2010 to 2016. The results show that increased frequency of online entertainment exhibits a comparatively positive effect on depression and life satisfaction. Spending more time on online social networking has a similar impact on rural migrants, but not on urbanites. These findings suggest that the rapid development of urban China’s online community has important implications for residents’ subjective well-being.

This article conducts a literature review of current and future challenges in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in cyber physical systems. The literature review is focused on identifying a conceptual framework for increasing resilience with AI through automation supporting both, a technical and human level. The methodology applied resembled a literature review and taxonomic analysis of complex internet of things (IoT) interconnected and coupled cyber physical systems. There is an increased attention on propositions on models, infrastructures and frameworks of IoT in both academic and technical papers. These reports and publications frequently represent a juxtaposition of other related systems and technologies (e.g. Industrial Internet of Things, Cyber Physical Systems, Industry 4.0 etc.). We review academic and industry papers published between 2010 and 2020. The results determine a new hierarchical cascading conceptual framework for analysing the evolution of AI decision-making in cyber physical systems. We argue that such evolution is inevitable and autonomous because of the increased integration of connected devices (IoT) in cyber physical systems. To support this argument, taxonomic methodol- ogy is adapted and applied for transparency and justifications of concepts selection decisions through building summary maps that are applied for designing the hierarchical cascading conceptual framework.

This research investigates the energy consumption of buildings managed by traditional Building Management Systems (BMS) and proposes the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to enhance energy efficiency. Conventional BMS often suffer from significant energy wastage and safety hazards due to sensor failures or malfunctions. These issues arise when building systems continue to operate under unknown conditions while the BMS is offline, leading to increased energy consumption and operational risks. The study demonstrates that integrating IoT systems with existing BMS can substantially improve energy efficiency in smart buildings. The research involved designing a system architecture prototype, performing MATLAB simulations, and real-life case study which revealed that IoT devices are effective in reducing energy waste, particularly in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and lighting. Additionally, an auxiliary bypass system was incorporated in parallel with the IoT system to enhance reliability in the event of IoT system failures. Preliminary findings indicate that the integration of IoT systems with traditional BMS significantly boosts energy efficiency and safety in smart buildings. This integration offers a promising solution for advancing energy management practices and policies, thereby improving both operational performance and sustainability in building management.

Traditional Chinese medicine requires decoction and consumption, which is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Scientific Chinese medicine (SCM), on the other hand, uses concentrated granules that can be taken with hot water, making it widely welcomed. With the widespread adoption of SCM, the packaging technology has started to receive attention. Whether it is manpower allocation, operation time, or the uniformity and residue of the medicine powder, these factors can become bottlenecks in the process. A traditional SCM pharmacy machine is purely mechanically hardwired. This paper proposes SCMtalk, an Internet of Things (IoT)-based SCM mechanism designed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of SCM medicine packets generation. We show how SCMtalk develops IoT hardware and software modules for medicine selection, mixing, dispensing, packaging, and cleaning. We also explain how the mechanical IoT hardware is integrated with the corresponding software module to become an individual IoT device. These IoT devices can be transparently replaced, allowing us to easily upgrade the individual components of the SCM packet generation through the IoT concept. Finally, we address quality control issues by leveraging IoT. One contribution of this paper is to introduce an interesting SCM application to IoT experts and to demonstrate how we collaborated with pharmacists and mechanical experts to use a powerful IoT platform to create a smart pharmacy.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) paradigm is a key research area derived from the Internet of Things (IoT). The emergence of IIoT has enabled a revolution in manufacturing and production, through the employment of various embedded sensing devices connected with each other by an IoT network, along with a collection of enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and edge/fog computing. One of the unrivaled characteristics of IIoT is the inter-connectivity provided to industries; however, this characteristic might open the door for cyber-criminals to launch various attacks. In fact, one of the major challenges hindering the prevalent adoption of the IIoT paradigm is IoT security. Inevitably, an increasing number of research proposals have been introduced over the last decade to overcome these security concerns. To obtain an overview of this research area, conducting a literature survey of the published research is necessary, eliciting the various security requirements and their considerations. This paper provides a literature survey of IIoT security, focused on the period from 2017 to 2023. We identify IIoT security threats and classify them into three categories, based on the IIoT layer they exploit to launch these attacks. Additionally, we characterize the security requirements that these attacks violate. Finally, we highlight how emerging technologies, such as AI and edge/fog computing, can be adopted to address security concerns and enhance IIoT security.

IoT devices enable real-time monitoring of equipment and processes, reducing downtime and enhancing efficiency. In the case, manufacturing companies use IoT sensors to monitor machinery, predict failures, and schedule maintenance. Also, automation via IoT, reduces manual intervention, resulting in boosted productivity in smart factories and automated supply chains. IoT devices generate thus vast amounts of data, which businesses analyze to gain insights into customer behavior, operational inefficiencies, and market trends. In turn, distributed computer systems process this data, providing actionable insights and enabling advanced analytics and machine learning for future trend predictions. While, IoT facilitates personalized products and services by collecting data on customer preferences and usage patterns, enhancing satisfaction and loyalty, IoT devices support new customer interactions, like wearable health devices, and enable subscription-based and pay-per-use models in transportation and utilities. Conversely, real-time monitoring enhances security, as distributed systems quickly respond to threats, ensuring operational safety. It also aids regulatory compliance by providing accurate operational data. In this way, this study, through a Bibliometric Literature Review (LRSB) of 91 screened pieces of literature, aims at ascertaining to what extent the aforementioned capacities enhance business models. The study concludes that those systems leverage businesses, promoting competitive edge, continuous innovation, and adaptability to market dynamics. A review of 91 academic documents from the Scopus database highlights these impacts.

This article titled "AI and IoT in Automation and Security: A Vision for Next Generation Applications," explored the implications of marrying IoT with AI in the realms of automation and security; this piece goes further into what that entails. In this paper, we present innovative application descriptions arising from this technology convergence and its future-generation applications. We found that AI brings strong cyber security, predictive maintenance, and decision-making capabilities to the table due to its advanced algorithms and machine learning models. IoT has the potential to allow businesses to extract and generate big data, automate processes, and monitor in real-time thousands and even millions of businesses at once. For now, we believe some of the possible main conclusions will be that the smart city, stand-alone systems, and user experience will be quite consumer-friendly. Importantly, the study also assessed facets such as data protection, system interoperability, and a few others. Our vision underscores the essential of a strong structure to connect the full latent of AI and IoT, finally aiming to create more capable, protected, and approachable environments. Significant results include achieving 95.8% accuracy in anomaly detection and 93.4% accuracy in predictive maintenance. The showcasing results efficacy of AI models to enhance system reliability as well as operational efficiency. Vigorous encryption protocols performance ensures data security hence addressing issues of privacy. These culminations underscore the transformative potential of AI-IoT integration in next-generation automation and security applications.

The purpose of this review article is to draw attention to the potential social, ethical, legal and professional limitations to using IoT in the context of healthcare. The social and ethical aspects in particular, focus on IoT usage in care of the elderly with relevant case studies as reference.

From professors overwhelmed by anxiety-driven e-mails from students, through faculty and administrative staff wasting valued time on e-mail minutia, misuse of electronic mail in the academy has become ubiquitous. After a brief overview of the unique features of e-mail communication, this study provides insight and guidelines to plan new educational activities on healthy and productive utilization of e-mail in the academy of the digital era. The overall aim is to prioritize scholarly deep work by focusing on teaching and research work, freeing working time wasted on unproductive use of e-mail.

Modern building automation systems implement plenty of advanced control and monitoring functions considering various parameters like users’ activity, lighting, temperature changes etc. Moreover, new solutions based on Internet of Things and cloud services are also being developed for smart buildings to ensure comfort of use, user safety, energy efficiency improvements and integration with smart grids and smart city platforms. Such a wide spectrum of technologies and functions requires a new approach in building automation systems design to provide effective way of their implementation and flexibility during operation. At the same time, in the building design and operation industries, tools based on building information modeling and digital twins are being developed. In this paper, the authors discuss development directions and application areas of these solutions, identifying new trends and possibilities of their use in smart homes and buildings. In particular, the focus is on procedures for selecting automation functions, effective integration, and interoperability of building management systems with Internet of Things considering organization of prediction mechanisms and dynamic functional changes in buildings and smart networks. Chosen solutions and functions should consider the requirements from EN ISO 52120 standard and the guidelines defined for the Smart Readiness Indicator.

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is a growing concept that expands on cloud computing technology. It leverages edge infrastructure to efficiently manage computationally intensive and time-sensitive tasks. By tapping into the capabilities of 7G network infrastructure, MEC can effectively reduce latency by transferring computing tasks from edge devices to edge servers. As part of Industrial 4.0 revolution, the use of large number of IOT sensors, edge devices, and edge servers are increasing at rapid phase. To effectively process these sensor and device data with less power and low latency is a key challenge. Here comes the need for an effective task offloading strategy to edge servers. This strategy must meet the industrial automation requirements of reduced energy usage and faster processing. A solution based on an Improved Particle Swarm Optimization with Genetic Algorithm (IPSOGA) is designed. It harnesses the power of effective exploration using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and maintain genetic diversity within the population using Genetic Algorithm (GA). This hybrid approach is powerful in solving complex optimization problems with the aims to effective resource allocation, faster task offloading decisions, and consequently reduce processing delays. The proposed IPSOGA is compared with popular metaheuristic algorithms like Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Simulated Annealing (SA), and it has been proven to be superior in task offloading strategy by effectively reducing processing delays, energy consumption, and optimizing resource allocation efficiently.

The vast array of interconnected microbes across earth’s ecosystems and within holobionts has been called the “Internet of Microbes.” Research into the fundamental microbial properties has demonstrated that bacteria and archaea are masters of energy and information collection, storage, transformation, and dissemination using both “wired” and wireless (at a distance) capacities. These features suggest that microbes are quantum entangled within and between earth’s holobionts, and that specific tools affecting energy and information functions could provide an effective strategy for managing microbial populations. Microbes use four critically important microbial networking functions (sound, light, electricity, and magnetism). This narrative review focuses on microbial management based on two of the four: sound and light (as well as related vibrations). These are examined as: 1) tools for managing microbial populations, 2) tools to support new technologies, and 3) tools for healing humans and other holobionts. Given microbial sensitivity to sound, light, and vibrations, it is critical that microbial populations and microbe-laden holobionts are protected from potentially damaging exposures. We conclude that sound, light, and vibrations are useful therapeutic tools that can help support useful microbial populations and help to address ongoing challenges of holobiont disease.

The development of language and communication patterns has been significantly impacted by the internet's quick advancement. The ability to instantly communicate globally and engage with people of different linguistic origins is one of the main advantages of using the internet. Internet use has significant positive effects on language growth, but it also brings with it drawbacks that need to be addressed. Online communication's casual atmosphere can occasionally cause grammar norms to deteriorate and non-standard language patterns to proliferate. With the information stated in this paper, the aim now is to collect literature on the benefits of internet usage and the evolution of language to provide substantive information in regard to this matter. In order to assist students in navigating the complexity of Internet communication, educational institutions should incorporate digital literacy into their curricula. This involves upholding strict requirements for traditional language proficiency while teaching students how to use digital technologies efficiently. The Internet should be used to support the revitalization and preservation of endangered languages. This can entail setting up community forums, digital archives, and online learning portals where language users can interact and exchange resources.

Rapid growth of IoT applications and their interference in our daily lives led to many different IoT devices which generates enormous data. The IoT devices’ resources are very limited, so storing and processing IoT data in the devices is very inefficient. Several resources of cloud-computing are efficiently used to handle some IoT resources issues. While using resources in the cloud centers cause some other issues, like latency in the IoT applications, which are time-critical. Thus, the technology of edge cloud has evolved recently. This technology permits storage and data processing at the network edge. This paper studies edge computing in-depth for timeless sensitive devices in IoT. In-depth, cutting-edge IoT computing systems (ECAs-IoT) are evaluated and characterized in this paper according to numerous criteria, such as information placement, improvisation facilities, reliability, and data visualization. Moreover, according to distinctive properties, the paper aims at comparing each structure in detail. The paper also highlights the significant limitations of the new ECAs-IoT and recommends solutions to them. The studies also introduce and propose solutions to some of the most important restrictions of the current ECAs-IoT. Consequently, in the edge computing domain, this survey outlines the IoT implementations. Lastly, with the use of IoT implementations for ECAs-IoT, the paper suggests four distinct scenarios.

The article is of a research nature. The aim of the article is to identify the role of social media in shaping personal brand. To this end, the first part discusses the concept of personal brand, components of brand capital in case of famous people, including consumer-based capital. Attention was also paid to the great importance of social media and the growing role of their users in the process of shaping personal brand. Based on the analysis of the source literature, a research gap was identified, related to the lack of empirical verification of the relationship between users’ online activity and the brand capital of famous people, also known as celebrities, associated with artistic and cultural activities. The article uses the results of direct research carried out in the years 2019-2020. The second (empirical) part of the article presents research hypotheses, methodology, as well as results and conclusions from the research. Based on 26 in-depth individual interviews that were conducted with people famous in Poland (mainly engaged in artistic and cultural activities) and surveys on a group of 324 social media users, it was shown, among others, that online activity of Internet users stimulates the brand capital of famous people. Statistically significant relationships were observed for such components of the personal brand as awareness / associations with the personal brand and for the relationship regarding the perception of the quality of activities carried out by a famous person.

This study adapted and assessed a shortened version of the IAT (Internet Addiction Test) scale completed by young people aged 12 years and older regarding their online behaviors and risk of online addiction. The psychometric qualities of the reduced version - Screening IAT - youth are presented in order to validate its use in the early detection of online addiction. The total sample is composed of 3021 participants being 55.9% female and 44.1% male, with a mean age of x ̅=15 years (σ=3.028), attending junior high school (56.2%), high school (37.8%) and college (5.9%). The procedure included a factorial analysis, in which the total sample was randomly divided into three samples. An exploratory factor analysis was performed with one part of the sample, and a confirmatory factor analysis was performed with the others parts, assessing internal consistency, construct reliability, and discriminant validity. The results indicate that this reduced version of the IAT for young people has good psychometric qualities and can be applied in research and clinical settings. With this version and the parent-teacher version there is a direct contribution to a tripartite assessment of internet addiction risk.

Over the years, the need for autonomous systems such as drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has significantly increased in popularity across several industries, including the military. The Internet of Battlefield Things (IoBT) represents a modern technological advancement that significantly enhances the operational efficacy of defense systems. It establishes an integrated military force by connecting individuals to intelligent technology in drones, radios, equipment, antennas and ground stations. This is achieved through the utilization of cloud and edge computing, sensors, mobile devices, embedded systems, and IoT-based systems. However, IoBT security is significantly compromised by enemies that exploit the vulnerabilities and malicious intrusions that specifically target the external environment or to obtain sensitive data. In addition, a comprehensive understanding of cyberattacks and countermeasures is essential for assuring the security of IoBT. On the other hand, as cyber threats get more complicated, trust becomes increasingly important for the security of digital systems. Within this context, the zero trust architecture contends that the security of a complex network is inherently vulnerable to internal and external threats. In defense, UAV security system applications, for example, the primary purpose of the zero trust architecture is to limit the vulnerability of military UAV systems to cyberattacks, hence reducing the possibility of data breaches and illegal entry. This study conducts a systematic review aimed at identifying different aspects of cybersecurity strategies for protecting UAV systems within the IoBT domain. Furthermore, zero trust architecture is presented in the study as an effective prospective solution to the security issues that develop in defense UAV systems.

Our great offering connects new research that integrates blockchains into the Internet of Things and provides secure Internet connection for smart devices. Blockchain (BC) Internet of Things (IoT) is a new technology that works with low-level, distributed, public and real-time leaders to maintain transactions between IoT sites. A blockchain is a series of blocks, each block being linked to its previous blocks. All blocks have cryptographic hash code, previous block hash, and its data. Transactions in BC are the basic components used to transfer data between IoT nodes. IoT nodes are a variety of portable but smart devices with embedded sensors, actuators, systems and the ability to communicate with other IoT nodes. The role of BC in IoT is to provide a process for processing secure data records using IoT nodes. BC is a protected technology that can be used publicly and openly. IoT requires this type of technology to allow secure communication between IoT nodes in different environments. Events in BC can be tracked and monitored by anyone who is certified to communicate within IoT.

A brain-computer interface for controlling elements commonly used at home is presented in this paper. It includes the electroencephalography device needed to acquire signals associated to the brain activity, the algorithms for artefact reduction and event classification, and the communication protocol.

The rising world population has made it imperative to get rid of time-consuming and non-economical agricultural practices. Thus, advances in Internet of Things (IoT) technology have recently propelled significant advancements in agriculture, similar to several other sectors. Through the combination of IoT and Farm Management Information Systems (FMIS), field data can be automatically collected, stored, analysed and accessed by farmers in real-time. In this paper, we present Proof-of-Concept (PoC) IoT circuit and FMIS web app for precision agriculture. The IoT circuit incorporates sensors, microcontroller and Wi-Fi module, which acquire and transfer field data to the FMIS web app. We designed and simulated the IoT circuit using Proteus, Arduino Uno, and Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The FMIS PoC web app was modelled with relevant Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagrams and Django (a Python framework) was employed to implement the app. Our simulation result illustrates how essentila field parameters can be monitored remotely and seamlessly by agriculture practitioners. It further provides a blueprint for real-time precision agriculture at scale and could serve as a learning aid for students in engineering and agricultural science.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS), as an emerging radio technology, is widely used to expand transmission distance and structure cascade channels to improve the performance of communication systems. However, although RIS-NOMA assisted Internet of Vehicles (IoV) communication system can improve the overall transmission and rate performance with continuous development of wireless communication technology, the physical layer security (PLS) issue has gradually attracted attention and becomes more and more important in the application of the system. The aim of this paper is to investigate the potential threaten for PLS, when RIS is utilized in order to improve the security performance of wireless communications. In particular, this work considers the non-fixed of RIS location and wiretapping behavior of eavesdroppers on the data, and further analyzes the maximum safe-rate for above location assumptions. The results show that RIS demonstrates significant advantages on security performance and provides a useful reference for the security design of future wireless communication systems.

Technological progress brings new tools to help society's development. In this context, the Internet of Things (IoT) helps to advance modern society. By connecting everyday objects and devices to the Internet, IoT enables benefits such as efficiency and automation, healthcare, environmental sustainability, safety, security, and data-driven decision-making. One of the possible technologies for devices' communication is LoRa, a wireless technology designed for the IoT that allows devices to communicate over long ranges using little battery power. This makes it useful for situations where it is needed to connect many devices spread out over a large area, like in smart cities or industrial settings. This paper aims to verify and evaluate the LoRa communication signal loss in a building environment. For this evaluation, we collected and processed data through experiments with LoRa links in the Instituto Federal de Pernambuco (IFPE) Campus.

First came the digital banks without offices, and then the “fintech” companies that combined technology and finance to achieve greater efficiency and new business models. Later was the turn of transport and logistics, understood as the sector whose economic activities derived from the transport of people and goods, while on the one hand, it has had a new spring thanks to factors such as online sales. Then, perhaps catalyzed by the pandemic scenario, the turn has reached education, where years ago was only a complement of traditional education, now is a central part with multiple modern methodologies. Numerous studies exist about using or implementing these e-learning procedures, but technical analysis is barely found in references. This work aims to analyze the digital transformation of the main sectors of our society, including finances, transport, and education, together with several examples of how technology was helping to fight the pandemic scenario.

It is strongly believed that technology can reap the best only when it can be tamed by all stakeholders. Big data technology has no exception for this and even after a decade of emergence, the technology is still a herculean task and is in nascent stage with respect to applicability for many people. Having understood the gaps in the technology adoption for big data in the contemporary world, the present exploratory research work intended to highlight the possible prospects of big data technologies. It is also advocated as to how the challenges of various fields can be converted as opportunities with the shift in the perspective towards this evolving concept. Examples of apex organizations like (IMF and ITU) and their initiatives of big data technologies with respect to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are also cited for a broader outlook. The intervention of the responsible organizations along with the respective governments is also much sought for encouraging the technology adoption across all the sections of the market players.
