This study presents an innovative approach named Optimal Adaptive Continuous Barrier Function Terminal Sliding Mode Control (OACBF-TSMC) approach with a novel switching manifold, to control mathematical model of nonlinear systems under model uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed OACBF-TSMC approach combines the advantages of adaptive control, continuous barrier functions, and terminal sliding mode control to achieve robust stability of the mathematical model of nonlinear systems, and by using a genetic algorithm that tries to optimize the controller parameters as much as possible so that the proposed controller is the most to have efficiency and performance. The proposed method is designed to address the challenges of systems and provide superior performance in terms of stabilization accuracy, disturbance rejection, and robustness against uncertainties. However, the critical challenge facing the proposed controller is the complete elimination of the chattering phenomenon, which is the most important problem of ordinary sliding mode controllers. The simulation results show that the system trajectories in the proposed approach have converged to the origin with minimal overshoot and under-shoot in a finite time; In addition, the chattering problem in the control inputs has been well eliminated, which makes the proposed method suitable for various systems, including chaotic systems, energy sources, and distributed production systems. Furthermore, the OACBF-TSMC approach has the potential to enhance the stability and reliability of control systems, contributing to the integration of the system states.

Emergency control load-shedding is a key solution to prevent blackouts in the power system. This paper proposed a new model of emergency controls load shedding based on the fast identification of the unstable state of the power system. K-means clustering algorithm divided the instability mode into the clusters. The results of analysis of this cluster were used as the basis for classification control. Building load shedding strategies is consisted of the pre-designed rules based on AHP algorithm. When the recognition of the power system “instability” is detected, the signal of load shedding control is triggered immediately, therefore the decision time is greatly shortened comparing to the traditional methods. The effectiveness of the proposed method was tested on the IEEE 39-bus to overcome the limitations of the last traditional methods.

Tea infusions are the most consumed beverages in the world after water, their pleasant yet peculiar flavor profile drives consumer choice and acceptance and becomes a fundamental benchmark for industry. Any qualification method capable of objectifying the product's sensory features effectively supports industrial quality control laboratories guaranteeing high sample throughputs even without the human panel intervention. The current study presents an integrated analytical strategy acting as an Artificial Intelligence decision tool for black tea infusion aroma and taste blueprinting. Key markers validated by sensomics are accurately quantified in a wide dynamic range of concentrations. Thirteen key aromas are quantitatively assessed by standard addition with in-solution solid-phase microextraction sampling followed by GC-MS. On the other hand, nineteen key taste and quality markers are quantified by external standard calibration and LV-UV/DAD. The large dynamic range of concentration for sensory markers is reflected in the selection of seven high-quality teas from different geographical areas (Ceylon, Darjeeling Testa Valley and Castleton, Assam, Yunnan, Azores, and Kenya). The strategy acts as an AI smelling and taste machine predicting teas sensory features without the human panel intervention.

Hydro generator sets serve as the peak and frequency regulation of the power system,and play a very important role in maintaining system stability and improving power quality.Based on the internal characteristics model of a specific type of hydro generator,this paper constructs a hydroelectric coupling model for hydropower units,studies the influence of the regulation system of hydropower units on low-frequency oscillations under different load conditions,and adopts variable speed reaching law and fuzzy sliding mode control strategy to improve the regulation quality of the system and ensure the stable operation of the units.Results of simulation and water turbine set under different load conditions show that varible speed reaching law can effectively improve the power-angle oscillation behavior of the hydropower set and suppress the occurrence of low-frequency oscillations of the system when the system is subject to power disturbance,which provide a new theoretical basis and solution for the vibration analysis and control optimization of hydraulic turbine units.

The interest on the use of renewable energy resources is increasing, especially towards wind and hydro powers, which should be efficiently converted into electric energy via suitable technology tools. To this aim, data--driven control techniques represent viable strategies that can be employed for this purpose, due to the features of these nonlinear dynamic processes working over a wide range of operating conditions, driven by stochastic inputs, excitations and disturbances. Some of the considered methods, such as fuzzy and adaptive self--tuning controllers, were already verified on wind turbine systems, and similar advantages may thus derive from their appropriate implementation and application to hydroelectric plants. These issues represent the key features of the work, which provides some guidelines on the design and the application of these control strategies to these energy conversion systems. The working conditions of these systems will be also taken into account in order to highlight the reliability and robustness characteristics of the developed control strategies, especially interesting for remote and relatively inaccessible location of many installations.

: To improve the efficiency of rhizobial inoculation operations and address the current situation of rhizobial inoculation being labor-intensive, a spraying and control system for variable rate application (VRA) of liquid rhizobia was developed. The system can accurately regulate the spraying rate of liquid rhizobia according to the desired rate of rhizobia by incremental Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) closed-loop control algorithm, making it particularly suitable for precise spraying with small amounts. In the laboratory experiment of precise flow control, variation coefficient of spraying nozzle from 0.10 MP to 0.20 MP pressure were no more than 1.2%. A clear linear relationship was observed between the spraying rate and pressure. The maximum response time was 1.93 seconds, while the average response time was 1.62 seconds when controlling the spraying system for small amounts. Field trial was conducted in Heilongjiang Agricultural Xianghe Farm of China. Average seeds number and 100-seed weight of soybean plant with rhizobia inoculation treatment were better than control group, and average yield of spraying liquid rhizobia agent with full base fertilizer increased by 232.5 kg/hm2, representing a significant 7.4% improvement over the control group. The results of these trails clearly showed the positive effect of the spraying and control system for liquid rhizobial inoculation, which has superior to existing inoculation manners, and provides an important technical support for the widespread adoption of rhizobia technology.

Nowadays, the increasingly serious environmental pollution and energy problems urgently require internal combustion engine-based transportation vehicles to upgrade or replace, so the new energy transportation vehicles based on hybrid power and fuel cells have gradually stepped on the stage and continue to innovate. The shipping industry is one of the main sources of global greenhouse gas emissions. The development of clean energy ships represented by fuel cells has attracted wide attention. Fuel cell has the advantages of clean, pollution-free and low noise, but it has some disadvantages such as insufficient dynamic response performance and fast performance decay. Limited by the characteristics of a single energy source, a variety of energy sources and bidirectional DC converters are usually mixed together to form a hybrid ship to improve the flexibility, stability and economy of the ship, and enhance its adaptability to complex sea conditions through the reconfiguration of power system energy. Taking fuel cell ferry "FCS Alsterwasser" as the research object, this study proposed an improved equivalent minimum hydrogen consumption energy management strategy based on fuzzy logic control. First, the power system of the modified mother ship was simulated, and a hybrid power system including fuel cell, lithium iron phosphate battery and supercapacitor was proposed. Then, the dynamic system simulation model and double closed loop PI control model are established in MATLAB/Simulink, and the reliability of the model is verified by the simulation analysis of charge and discharge characteristics. Then, the feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated by designing simulation experiments based on typical working conditions of the mother ship. The simulation results show that under the premise of meeting the load requirements, the control strategy designed in this paper has a better optimization effect than the S-type penalty function in terms of lithium battery power, lithium battery SOC, bus voltage stability and equivalent hydrogen consumption, which improves the stability and economy of the power system, and has certain engineering practical value.

Nowadays, in low voltage (LV) electric distribution networks (EDNs), the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) are encountering a high number of connected small-scale distributed generation units, mainly photovoltaic (PV) prosumers. The irregular behavior of the prosumers, together with the uncertainty degree of the requested and injected powers associated with all end-users from the LV EDN, can cause voltage variations with violations of the allowable limits. In this context, the paper developed an efficient and resilient expert system integrating the rule-based reasoning applied to the On-load Tap Changer (OLTC)-fitted transformer to improve the efficiency of the voltage control in the PV-rich LV EDNs. An in-depth analysis based on 75 scenarios, resulting from the combinations of three indicators: the penetration degree of the PV prosumers, consumption evolution associated with the consumers, and energy production of the PV systems, has been performed to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed expert system in an LV EDN from a rural area belonging to a Romanian DNO. The success rate of the expert system has been 86.7% (65 out of 75 scenarios didn't have voltage issues, all values being between the allowable limits in 100% of the time slots associated with the analyzed period). For the other scenarios (representing 13.3%), the values have been inside the range [-10%, +10%] at least 95% of the time slots, according to the European Power Quality Standard, and for the rest of the time slots up to 100% being very close to the upper and lower limits of the range, with highly mitigating of the voltage variations.

With the development of economy, maritime transportation has increased rapidly, which has had a significant impact on the marine environment and resources. In recent years, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) has been widely used to observe maritime environmental incident. Through the large coverage area of SAR, marine environmental emergencies, especially oil pollution, can be better monitored and responded to. This study first proposed an improved Full-scale Aggregated MobileUNet (FA-MobileUNet) model to achieve more complete detection results of oil spill areas. The convolutional block attention module (CBAM) in FA-MobileUNet was modified based on morphological concepts. By introducing the morphological attention module (MAM), the improved FA-MobileUNet model can reduce the fragments and holes in the detection results, providing complete oil spill areas which were more suitable for describing the location and scope of oil pollution incidents. In addition, to overcome the inherent category imbalance of the dataset, label smoothing was applied in model training to reduce the model’s overconfidence in majority class samples while improving the model’s generalization ability. The detection performance of the improved FA-MobileUNet model reached 84.55% mIoU (mean Intersection over Union), which was 17.15% higher than that of the original U-Net model. The improved FA-MobileUNet model was then examined by some oil pollution incidents. According to the detection results, if the oil spill was suspected to be caused by a ship, the corresponding Automatic Identification System (AIS) data were collected based on the acquisition time and geo-location of the SAR image to search for the ship suspected of causing oil pollution. Finally, some oil pollution incidents in Taiwan marine area were collected to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model for marine oil pollution monitoring. Experimental results showed that the extent of the detected oil spill was consistent with the oil pollution area recorded in the incident reports.

The hybridization of machine learning methods with soft computing techniques is an essential approach to improve the performance of the prediction models. Hybrid machine learning models, particularly, have gained popularity in the advancement of the high-performance control systems. Higher accuracy and better performance for prediction models of exergy destruction and energy consumption used in the control circuit of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems can be highly economical in the industrial scale to save energy. This research proposes two hybrid models of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system-particle swarm optimization (ANFIS-PSO), and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system-genetic algorithm (ANFIS-GA) for HVAC. The results are further compared with the single ANFIS model. The ANFIS-PSO model with the RMSE of 0.0065, MAE of 0.0028, and R² equal to 0.9999, with a minimum deviation of 0.0691 (KJ/s), outperforms the ANFIS-GA and single ANFIS models.

The idea of developing a robot controlled by iris movement to assist physically disabled individuals is indeed innovative and has the potential to significantly improve their quality of life. This technology can empower individuals with limited mobility and enhance their ability to interact with their environment. Disability of movement has huge impact on the life of physically disabled people. Therefore, there is need to develop a robot which can be controlled using iris movement. The main idea of this work revolves around iris recognition from an eye image, specifically identifying the centroid of the iris. The centroid's position is then utilized to issue commands to control the robot. This innovative approach leverages iris movement as a means of communication and control, offering a potential breakthrough in assisting individuals with physical disabilities. The proposed method aims to improve the precision and effectiveness of iris recognition by incorporating advanced segmentation techniques and fuzzy clustering methods. The fast gradient filters using a fuzzy inference system (FIS) is employed to separate the iris from its surroundings. Then, the bald eagle search (BES) algorithm is employed to locate and isolate the iris region. Subsequently, the Fuzzy KNN algorithm is applied for the matching process. This combined methodology aims to improve the overall performance of iris recognition systems by leveraging advanced segmentation, search, and classification techniques. The results of the proposed model are validated using True Success Rate (TSR) and compared to other existing models. The results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed method for the 400 tested images representing 40 people.

With the continuous development of the mining industry, the world's major mines have gradually entered the intelligent stage. In the intelligent underground mine, the operation road of the underground transportation equipment is very complicated, and the monitoring and control of the underground traffic has become a problem to be solved in the intelligent underground mine. Therefore, on the basis of solving the practical problems of underground mines, the concept paper discusses the possibility of the rail transit monitoring system being applied to underground mines through the summary and induction of the related literature and propose the design for the CBTC system to solve the problems in the underground mine rail transportation. As the mining engineers, we put forward the concept of this design for the CBTC system in this concept paper, but we need to continue to work hard for the future development of the underground mines. And the concept paper serves as a guide to the Tossing out a brick to get a jade gem, has implications for the development and the future of the underground mine transportation.

This paper presents three types of sliding mode controllers for a magnetic levitation system. First, a proportional-integral sliding mode controller (PI-SMC) is designed using a new switching surface and a proportional plus power rate reaching law. The PI-SMC is more robust than a feedback linearization controller in the presence of mismatched uncertainties and outperforms the SMC schemes reported recently in the literature in terms of the convergence rate and settling time. Next, to reduce the chattering phenomenon in the PI-SMC, a state feedback-based discrete-time SMC algorithm is developed. However, the disturbance rejection ability is compromised to some extent. Furthermore, to improve the robustness without compromising the chattering reduction benefits of the discrete-time SMC, mismatched uncertainties like sensor noise and track input disturbance are incorporated in a robust discrete-time SMC design using multirate output feedback (MROF). With this technique, it is possible to realize the effect of a full-state feedback controller without incurring the complexity of a dynamic controller or an additional discrete-time observer. Also, the MROF-based discrete-time SMC strategy can stabilize the magnetic levitation system with excellent dynamic and steady-state performance with superior robustness in the presence of mismatched uncertainties. The stability of the closed-loop system under the proposed controllers is proved by using the Lyapunov stability theory. The simulation results and analytical comparisons demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control schemes.

Wear simulation aims to assess wear rates and their dependence on factors like load, kinematics, temperature, and implant orientation. Despite its significance, there's a notable gap in research concerning advancements in simulator control systems and the testing of clinically relevant waveforms. This study addresses this gap by focusing on enhancing the conventional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller used in joint simulators through the development of a fuzzy logic-based controller. Leveraging a single-input-multiple-output (SIMO) fuzzy logic control system, the study aimed to improve displacement control, augmenting the traditional Proportional-Integral (PI) tuning approach. Implementation and evaluation of a novel Fuzzy-PI control algorithm were conducted on the Leeds spine wear simulator. The study also included testing of daily-living (DL) profiles, particularly from the hip joint, to broaden the scope of simulation scenarios. While both the conventional PI controller and the Fuzzy-PI controller met ISO tolerance criteria for the spine flexion-extension (FE) profile at 1Hz, the Fuzzy-PI controller demonstrated superior performance at higher frequencies and with DL profiles due to its real-time adaptive tuning capability. The Fuzzy-PI controller represents a significant advancement in joint wear simulation, offering improved control functionalities and a more accurate emulation of real-world physiological dynamics.

This work targets the development of a mobility control system for high-speed series hybrid electric tracked vehicles, which operate with independent traction motors for each track. The scope of the research encompasses the modeling of the series hybrid powertrain specific to military tracked vehicles, as well as an in-depth analysis of their dynamic behavior. Subsequently, the study conducts a critical review of the mobility control approaches sourced from literature, identifying key techniques relevant to high-inertia vehicular applications. Building on the foundational models, the study puts forward a robust closed-loop mobility control system aimed at ensuring precise and stable off-road vehicle operations. The system's resilience and adaptability to a variety of driving conditions are emphasized, with a particular focus on handling maneuvers such as steering and pivoting, which are challenging operations for tracked vehicle agility. The performance of the proposed mobility control system is tested through a series of simulations, covering a spectrum of operational scenarios. These tests are carried out in both offline simulation settings, which permit meticulous fine-tuning of system parameters, and real-time environments that replicate actual field conditions. The simulation results demonstrate the system's capacity to improve vehicular response and highlight its potential impact on the future designs of mobility control systems for the heavy-duty vehicle sector, particularly in defense applications.

Electro-mechanical braking(EMB) which represents development direction of autonomous and intelligent braking plays very useful role on enhancing the braking response performance and intelligence level for mine underground electric trackless rubber-tired vehicle (ETRV). However,there is no Electro-Mechanical Brake system applied practically in coal mine UTRV until now.The accurate control of braking clamping force can determine the length and precision of braking distance of mine ETRV.In addition,because of poor working conditions in underground coal mine tunnel ,braking clamping force sensor may be easy to occur failure,which may cause vital accident.Therefore,A cascaded three-closed-loop EMB system with a positive clamping force sensor or force estimator built for ETRV is established to achieve autonomous elimination and reset of braking clearance and reliable braking force tracking ability via utilizing the electro motor rotor angle displacement and hysteresis effect of mechanical components in this EMB.The results of simulation and experiment indicate that clamping force response is faster than traditional hydraulic disk braking system and proposed force estimator presents good fault-tolerant ability when sensor is fault.This EMB can replace the current hydraulic brake system to enhance automation level of braking control for ETRVs and braking force response performance, reduce oil pollution and cost of maintenance, which is also key technology support for really precise motion control of mine autonomous driving vehicles.

This contribution considers an improved control scheme for three-phase two-stage grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) power system based on integral sliding mode control (ISMC) theory. The proposed control scheme consists of maximum power point tracking (MPPT), DC-Link voltage regulation and grid currents synchronization. A modified voltage-oriented maximum power point tracking (VO-MPPT) method based on ISMC theory is proposed for design of an enhanced MPPT under irradiation changes. Moreover, a novel DC-Link voltage control based on ISMC theory is proposed in order to achieve good regulation of DC-Link voltage over its reference. To inject the generated PV power into the grid with high quality, a voltage oriented control based on space vector modulation (SVM) and ISMC (VOC-ISMC-SVM) has been developed to control the grid currents synchronization. Numerical simulations are performed in Matlab/SimulinkTM environment in order to evaluate the proposed control strategy. In comparison with conventional control scheme, the developed control strategy provides an accurate MPP tracking with less power oscillation as well as a fast and an accurate DC-Link regulation under climatic conditions variations. Moreover, the transfer of the extracted power into the grid is achieved with high quality.

Few prior works study self-driving cars by deep learning with IoT collaboration. SDC-Net, which is an end-to-end multitask self-driving car camera cocoon IoT-based system, is one of the research that tackles this direction. However, by design SDC-Net is not able to identify the accident locations, it only classifies if it is a crash scene or not. In this work, we introduce an enhanced design for the SDC-Net system by 1) replacing the classification network with a detection one, 2) adapting our benchmark dataset labels built on the CARLA simulator to include the vehicles bounding boxes while keeping the same training, validation, and testing samples, 3) modifying the shared information via IoT to include the accident location. We keep the same path planning and automatic emergency braking network, the digital automation platform, and the input representations to formulate the comparative study. SDC-Net++ system is proposed to 1) output the relevant control actions, especially in case of accidents: accelerate, decelerate, maneuver, and brake, and 2) share the most critical information to the connected vehicles via IoT, especially the accident locations. A comparative study is also conducted between SDC-Net and SDC-Net++ with the same input representations: front camera only, panorama and bird-eye views, and with single-task networks: crash avoidance only, and multitask networks. Multitask network with a BEV input representation outperforms the nearest representation in precision, recall, f1-score, and accuracy by more than 15.134%, 12.046%, 13.593%, and 5%, respectively. SDC-Net++ multitask network with BEV outperforms SDC-Net multitask with BEV in precision, recall, f1-score, accuracy, and average MSE by more than 2.201%, 2.8%, 2.505%, 2%, and 18.677% respectively.

The synchronous generator, as the main component of power systems, plays a key role in these system’s stability. Therefore, utilizing the most effective control strategy for modeling and control the synchronous generator results in the best outcomes in power systems’ performances. The advantage of using a powerful controller is to have the synchronous generator modeled and controlled as well as its main task i.e. stabilizing power systems. Since the synchronous generator is known as a complicated nonlinear system, modeling and control of it is a difficult task. This paper presents a sum of squares (SOS) approach to modeling and control the synchronous generator using polynomial fuzzy systems. This method as an efficacious control strategy has numerous superiorities to the well-known T–S fuzzy controller, due to the control framework is a polynomial fuzzy model, which is more general and effectual than the well-known T–S fuzzy model. In this case, a polynomial Lyapunov function is used for analyzing the stability of the polynomial fuzzy system. Then, the number of rules in a polynomial fuzzy model is less than in a T-S fuzzy model. Besides, derived stability conditions are represented in terms of the SOS approach, which can be numerically solved via the recently developed SOSTOOLS. This approach avoids the difficulty of solving LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality). The Effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by using the third-part Matlab toolbox, SOSTOOLS.

With the continuous development of Artificial Intelligence technology and Internet of Things engineering, more and more driver-less vehicles have been developed and put into the industrial production. The birth of driver-less vehicles undoubtedly brings new vitality to a large amount of industries, particularly in transportation. For the mining industry, transportation is undoubtedly an extremely important link in the whole production process. If the driver-less vehicles can be applied to the underground mines, it can not only improve the production and transportation capacity of the whole mine, but also can reduce the occurrence of many mine safety accidents. ZigBee WSN technology can play a greater role in the narrow environment like underground mines according to the relevant literature, this concept paper just like a engineering project plan mainly tries to integrate the ZigBee WSN technology and the communication-based train control (CBTC) system to explore the possibility of the driver-less vehicles to be used in the underground mines, which aims to solve practical engineering problems for the engineering projects. As the mining engineers, we put forward the concept of this integrated system in this concept paper, but we need to continue to work hard for the future of the underground mines. Malaria is one of the leading causes of illnesses and deaths in Africa at large and Nigeria in particular, especially amongst pregnant women and children under the age of five years. Our research revealed that though the government has deployed so many intervention systems to contend with this death-causing vector—the mosquitoes, malaria related deaths (MRDs) have continued to increase. This is because people have not sufficiently adopted those intervention systems to protect themselves. Further enquiries into the ineffective compliance of the people to the intervention systems revealed that the interventions are passive in nature. Based on these, we set up three measurable research outcomes to enable us to determine the appropriateness of persuasive technology in solving the malaria problem. We technically avoided a one-size-fits-all design approach and adopted Participatory System Design (PSD) and User-Centered Design (UCD) approaches in our system design methodologies. Well-structured questionnaires were used to extract information from the participants. The data obtained from the research survey was used in modeling the intervention system. The research was conducted in three phases: baseline, development and deployment of an intervention system—the Malaria Prevention and Control Support System (MPCSS), and an evaluation study to determine the performance of the intervention system. The research led to the following achievements: (1) encouraged an increase in the number of people who participated in malaria prevention and control activities by lowering the rate of malaria cases from 96.9% to 68.5% and increasing ownership of mosquito nets from 54% to 85.5%; (2) demonstrated that persuasive technology could be used to increase public awareness and knowledge of a given subject as noted in our evaluation result; and (3) demonstrated that persuasive technology is a veritable active intervention to combat malaria.

The present grievous situation of the tuberculosis disease can be improved by efficient case management and timely follow-up evaluations. With the advent of digital technology this can be achieved by quick summarization of the patient-centric data. The aim of our study was to assess the effectiveness of the ODK Scan paper-to-digital system during testing period of three months. A sequential, explanatory mixed-method research approach was employed to elucidate technology use. Training, smartphones, application and 3G enabled SIMs were provided to the four field workers. At the beginning, baseline measures of the data management aspects were recorded and compared with endline measures to see the impact of ODK Scan. Additionally, at the end, users’ feedback was collected regarding app usability, user interface design and workflow changes. 122 patients’ records were retrieved from the server and analysed for quality. It was found that ODK Scan recognized 99.2% of multiple choice bubble responses and 79.4% of numerical digit responses correctly. However, the overall quality of the digital data was decreased in comparison to manually entered data. Using ODK Scan, a significant time reduction is observed in data aggregation and data transfer activities, however, data verification and form filling activities took more time. Interviews revealed that field workers saw value in using ODK Scan, however, they were more concerned about the time consuming aspects of the use of ODK Scan. Therefore, it is concluded that minimal disturbance in the existing workflow, continuous feedback and value additions are the important considerations for the implementing organization to ensure technology adoption and workflow improvements.

This study explores the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Virtual Tours in the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, focusing on Facility Management (FM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). The research addresses the need for different levels of detail in BIMs across various building phases and the potential of Virtual Tours as a complement to BIMs in IoT-based FM. The study’s methodology includes a literature review, a pilot-demonstrator case study, installation of monitoring and IoT control devices, execution of BIMs and Virtual Tour models, and development of links between system elements. The case study is based on the Controlled Environments for Living Lab Studies (CELLS), a unique facility designed for flexible monitoring and remote-control processes. The findings of this research could provide valuable insights into the potential of Virtual Tours to complement and connect to BIMs within a life cycle perspective, enhancing the usability of digital twins for nontrained users and contributing to the evolution of the AEC industry.

In this article, the research team has systematically developed a method to model the kinematics and dynamics of a 3-wheeled robot subjected to external disturbances and sideways wheel sliding. These models will be used to design control laws that compensate for wheel slippage, model uncertainties, and external disturbances. These are control algorithms developed based on Dynamic Surface Control (DSC). Adaptive trajectory tracking DSC algorithm using fuzzy logic system (AFDSC) and radial neural network (RBFNN) with fuzzy logic system to overcome the disadvantages of DSC and expand the application domain for wheeled Mobile Robots (WMR). However, this Adaptive Fuzzy Neural Network Dynamic Surface Control (AFNNDSC) adaptive controller ensures the closed system is stable and follows the preset trajectory in the presence of wheel slippage model uncertainty and is affected by significant amplitude disturbances. The stability and convergence of the closed-loop system are guaranteed based on the Lyapunov analysis. The AFNNDSC adaptive controller is evaluated by simulation on MATLAB/Simulink software and in a steady state. The maximum position error on the right wheel and left wheel is 0.000572 (m) and 0.000523 (m), and the angular velocity tracking error in the right and left wheels of the control method is 0.000394 (rad/s). The experimental results show the correctness of the theoretical analysis, the effectiveness of the proposed controller, and the possibility of practical application.

The medium-voltage DC (MVDC) technology has gained increasing interests in recent years. Power electronics devices dominate those grids. Accurate simulation of such a grid, with detailed models of switching semiconductors, can quickly became very time-consuming, according to the number of connected devices to be simulated. A simulation approach based on interactions on a continuous time model can be very interesting, especially for developing a system level control model of such a modern MVDC distribution grid. Aim of this paper is to present all the steps required for obtaining a continuous time modelling of a +/- 10 kV MVDC grid case study, including Solid State Transformer (SST) and Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) based Active Front End (AFE). Additional aim of this paper is to supply an educational content about the use of the continuous time simulation approach, thanks to a detailed description of the various devices modelled into the presented MVDC grid. The results of a certain number of simulation scenarios are eventually presented.

The article analyzes the problems connected with ensuring the coordinated operation of slipway drives that arise during the launch of a ship. The dynamic model of load of the electric drive of the ship's cart is obtained taking into account the peculiarities of the construction of the ship-lifting complex, which allows to analyze the influence of external factors and random influences during the entire process of launching the ship. A linearized mathematical model of the dynamics of a complex vessel movement in the process of descent in the space of states is developed, which allows to identify the mode of operation of the multi-drive system, taking into account its structure. The analysis of efficiency of application of recurrent methods of identification (stochastic approximation and least squares) of the parameters of the linearized model in the space of states is carried out. A decision support system has been developed in the automated system of operational control by the module for estimating the situation and the control synthesis to ensure a coherent motion of a complex ship-carts object in a two-phase environment.

The arrival of new developments in the field of power electronics circuit’s applications in power systems builds new control strategy to improve voltage quality for power grid by overcome interruptions. Wind energy resources are unconventional resources and get advanced problems to power grid when it is connected. Uncertainty of load sharing, peak energy management, climatic conditions, wind velocity and wind energy injected into power grid leads many of power quality problems on power grid based on the existing guidelines specified in IEC-61400 standard. This system plans efficient operation of DFIG to eliminate the voltage collapse and mismatch frequency to power grid. The DFIG connected diode rectifier and rotor side converter wind generator works as an Efficient Static Synchronous Compensator (E-SATCOM) for supplying the demand of reactive power for power grid to mitigate PQ problems. The benefit of using a combined controller was verified by simulink/Matlab and its simulated results used Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG), wind Turbine. This simulation results gives good quality transient and stable state response to manage and support reactive power for both symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults in connection of grid codes to provide continuous quality of power supply, multiple wind generators are required for 140 bus power grid.

The UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Journal House Information System encounters significant usability challenges stemming from inadequate UI/UX design and sub-optimal integration across its components, resulting in diminished user efficiency and adoption rates. This method facilitated a structured software development life cycle emphasizing iterative feedback loops and active stakeholder participation. By iteratively refining requirements and ensuring continuous alignment with user expectations, the prototype development process aimed to deliver a final system that not only meets but exceeds user needs. Rigorous testing, ongoing support, and a commitment to continuous improvement were pivotal in transforming the initial prototype into a robust and user-friendly system. This approach not only promises to enhance overall system effectiveness but also ensures sustained value delivery to stakeholders over the system's lifecycle.

Despite being a rare disease worldwide, rabies has the highest morbidity and mortality rates, with nearly all symptomatic cases leading to coma and death. Rabies represents an infectious disease caused by the Rabies virus (RABV), which is part of the Lyssavirus group and the Rhabdoviridae family, and it mainly spreads through the bite and scratch of an infected mammal, but particularly of wild animals, such as bats, foxes, wolves and racoons, and of domestic animals, such as dogs and cats, in rabies-prone areas of the world. Airborne transmission has been deemed as extremely rare, and no clinical case as such has been recorded worldwide yet, except in the enclosed environment, such as research laboratories and caves where infected bats are present. Domestic mammals, such as dogs and ferrets, represent other important reservoirs of disease transmission, and the human cases of Asia and Africa amount approximately 95% of all human cases worldwide. Infected animals most commonly start transmitting the virus once the first symptoms have occurred, and if they experience disease aggravation and death within 10 days, a case of rabies is registered, more easily if the incidence occurred in the urban area and then, any person or animal that had been potentially exposed are strongly recommended to receive the inoculation. It is rare for asymptomatic mammals to transmit the illness. Most First-World and several Second-World countries have recently been declared dog rabies-free by the World Health Organization. The disease can only be treated prophylactically, with three doses of a vaccine containing an inactivated form of RABV, or with five doses of the vaccine and two doses of anti-RABV immunoglobulins within 28 days if the patient is believed to have been exposed to the virus beforehand. It has been projected that, once the viral load reaches elements of the central nervous system, prophylactic approaches are no longer effective, even if symptoms have not begun yet, and this highlights the urgent trait of the medical condition, strongly recommending exposed people to receive the prophylactic doses immediately after the potential exposure to the virus. The pathogen first infects the bodily fluids, before reaching the peripheral nervous system, from where it will gradually move toward the spinal cord or the encephalon, at a speed of movement ranging from 1 to 40 cm per day. It was also found, in extremely rare circumstances, to infect the nasopharyngeal cavity and the lungs. The primary cause of a successful, gradual advance of the viral load toward the point of clinical no-return for the patient - the CNS - is a complex mechanism of induced innate immune evasion, with the interferon system being heavily targeted and silenced by RABV proteins. The ‘Milwaukee’ protocol is locally believed to decrease the mortality rate of the clinical illness to approximately 80%, although significantly more research is required in this sense. First-line immune evasion represents the central mechanism developed by viruses during their evolutionary process to gain control over human immunity, so it could be the development and adjustment of a counter-offensive to this evolutionary operating system that could address the core elements of the problem. Human recombinant Type I and Type III Interferons were found to be significant vaccine adjuvants and to considerably delay the clinical onset of the disease. Despite their central role in natural immunity-based prophylaxis, vaccine support and, in often cases, vaccination per se, a local administration of IFNs as such may not be enough to tackle the core problem of the endemic disease, and a specific and systemic treatment of potential host cells with IFN I and III, as well as IFN-stimulating proteins, may constitute a major research requirement in the coming years of disease investigation, as the inoculation efforts with the inactivated virus and immunoglobulin administration continue. The administration of a relatively low dosage of somatic Natural Killer cells, gamma-interferon and perhaps, of somatic helper CD4+ and somatic cytotoxic CD8+ T-lymphocytes treated with alpha-, beta- and lambda-interferon could be merged with the administration of a similar dosage of alpha-, beta- and lambda-interferon during the efforts to develop an effective and less costly prophylactic vaccine against rabies. A combination of a nasal substance containing a low dosage of IFN I and III with a reduced concentration of neutralized RABV copies, and/or with a low dose of anti-RABV IgA antibodies, could also be tested for humans for the purposes of pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis.

Building a new power plant to address the growing demand for power due to population concentration in the metropolitan area is one of the world's major concerns. However, since a large power plant can not be located around the city due to burden of economic cost, building power plant outside metropolitan and cities is necessary. Therefore, new power generation facilities are promoting policies to provide distributed generator(DG) with a small capacity relatively near the metropolitan. When the DG (photovoltaic, wind farm, etc.) is connected with the grid using medium voltage direct current (MVDC) system, voltage sourced converter(VSC) should supply reactive power to the grid, because of fault ride through(FRT) operation in grid fault. If the voltage drop is severe, the converter should be disconnected from the grid immediately without supplying the reactive power, resulting in a considerable economic loss. In general, superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) is introduced as a measure to enhance FRT capability. In this paper, we use trigger type SFCL which protects superconducting element and reduces low voltage. On the other hand, the active power unbalance of the DC-link and the DC voltage rise due to the reactive power supply of the grid-side converter. The rise of the DC voltage causes the P (active power), Q (reactive power) control of the converter to deviate, causing malfunction and damage of the DC equipment. Therefore, the rise of the DC voltage must be prevented. In this paper, we consider the suppression the DC voltage rising caused by the FRT operation through the active power tracking control (APTC).

The increasing demand for water in agriculture and the need for more efficient irrigation systems has led to the development of smart irrigation systems based on the Internet of Things. In this system, an Arduino microcontroller is used to control and monitor the watering of crops. The system is equipped with sensors that measure soil moisture which are used to optimize the irrigation process. The data collected by the sensors is transmitted to the Arduino, which then adjusts the watering schedule based on the information received. The use of IoT in smart irrigation systems provides several benefits, including reduced water waste, increased crop yields, and improved plant health. The implementation of this system using an Arduino platform is relatively simple, cost-effective, and can be easily integrated into existing irrigation systems. Overall, the use of IoT in smart irrigation using an Arduino platform has the potential to revolutionize the way we manage water resources in agriculture.

N-palmitoylethanolamine (PEA) is an endocannabinoid-like compound first encountered within lipid fractions of specific foods and has intrigued researchers since the 1950s due to its therapeutic effects. This study aims to explore the therapeutic promise held by PEA as an anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory agent. Therapeutic impact of PEA reverberates across diverse physiological systems, as the central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, vascular network, digestive and respiratory system. Additionally, it was effective in pain management, reduction of inflammation and immune responses. These attributes have fostered collaborations targeting conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebral ischemia, neuroinflammation, general inflammation, pain, coagulopathy, steatohepatitis, and acute lung injury. PEA operates both independently and in synergy with other compounds, like paracetamol, luteolin, and oxymetazoline. This efficacy stems from its interactions with pivotal targets including PPARα, PPAR-δ, PPAR-γ, CB1, CB2, GPR55, and TRPV1. Additionally, PEA exerts a direct influence on the inflammatory cascade, orchestrating precise adjustments in immune responses. Numerous animal studies have elucidated the inherent potential of PEA. Nevertheless, the imperative of reinforcing clinical investigation is evident. This review notably underscores the pivotal necessity for methodologically rigorous clinical trials to definitively establish the translational efficacy of PEA in ameliorating diverse inflammatory pathologies within the human milieu.

This research work aims to develop a mathematical modeling for production-inventory systems. Two mathematical models are present: An infinite dimensional, partial differential equation (PDE), production level modeling is present and a finite dimensional system for a coupled dynamic pricing, production rate and inventory level ordinary differential equations (ODE), integrating a proper Lyapunov stability analysis of the dynamical system and simulations.

The power utility, Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) is faced with challenges of supplying adequate power to the ever-increasing demand. To this end, this paper explores the installed Ubungo Gas Power Plant (UGP II) located in Dar es Salaam to find means of utilizing it in co-generation method. The study embarked on detailed modelling of the system and run simulations which indicated that the co-generation can result to power generation efficiency increase between 10.42 to 50.92%. It is recommended to change the UGP II to exploit this co-generation method. Further, the study could be improved by including more parameters of the gas and steam plant and verify them experimentally.

The inverse system identification toolbox named INVSID 1.0 for MATLAB, which is used to identify the inversion of single-input single-output systems, is developed. The complete process of developing the toolbox is demonstrated. Afterwards, a numerical example is illustrated to describe how the toolbox can be used to solve inverse identification problems. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the toolbox.

Innovative practices in irrigation systems can bring improvements in terms of economic efficiency and in the same time can reduce environmental impact. Investment in high tech technologies frequently involves additional costs, but an efficient water management can increase the lifetime of the equipment. The main objective of this article is to reduce the energy consumption by one thousand cubic meters pumped and automatically to increase the economic efficiency of the pumping groups. This paper develops a new operating algorithm that ensures the operation of the pumping group at safe operating intervals and in the same time identifies the equivalent pump operating points for the entire flow range and pumping height of the pumping group. This methodology is based on the principles of an Expert System to perform the optimization process of the energy consumption in pumping groups. The resulting methodology avoids the combinatorial explosion of the solutions to be analyzed and determines the point of maximum efficiency without violation of any of the system constraints under any operating condition. The proposed methodology is tested on an irrigation system that includes a pumping group with 5 pumps, showing its effectiveness in obtaining the optimal solution with a relatively low computational burden.

It is not plausible to predict disasters; however, still the least that may be done is to get ready for that. In disaster circumstances, nowadays, the existing internet of things (IoT) technology is rather developed and capable of being highly beneficial. For many countries, the early warning system for natural catastrophes is a crucial challenge, especially for high seismic hazard countries. Primary function of an early warning system is to assist individuals and authorities to save lives and reduce secondary damage once a disaster occurs. Even though such systems have been defined for the earthquake on the basis of IoT, the least attention has been focused on the post decisions for substructure monitoring systems which can control the gas and electric lifelines given the critical time. Combination of Fuzzy system with IoT can improve the decision making process after the disasters occur. This program minimizes costs and destruction in cities. Tehran is a high seismic hazard area which contains an expanded network of the gas transmission system. Hence, a major seismic event may cause serious loss directly and indirectly owing to the damage to the gas and electric transmission network. The proposed early warning system contains a grid of strong ground motion stations. Each station contains five sensors to collect accurate data and send the data to the cloud server, then the server executes relevant scenarios.

A novel approach to the remote-control system for the compact multi-crystal energy-dispersive spectrometer for x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) applications has been developed. This new approach is based on asynchronous communication between software components and on reactive design principles. In this paper, we identify the challenges we have faced, our solution to them as well as the implementation and future development prospects. The main motivation of this work was the development of a new holistic communication protocol that can be implemented to control various hardware components.

Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) commonly known as fall armyworm was first detected in Uganda in 2016 and has spread to all the maize-growing districts. Different methods have been deployed to control this pest. However, there is a limited understanding of the role of the environment and farmers' practices on the incidence and damage by S. frugiperda in Uganda. This study, therefore, assessed the abundance of S. frugiperda and leaf damage levels in three different districts and explored the association between agronomic practices, crop phenology and weather parameters on S. frugiperda damage and abundance in smallholder farmers’ maize fields using a longitudinal monitoring survey in 69 farmers’ fields of Kole, Kiryandongo and Nakaseke for three seasons. Leaf damage and incidence of damaged plants differed significantly between locations and seasons. Leaf damage and abundance of larvae varied significantly in the different growth stages. Conservation tillage resulted in reduced leaf damage. No significant relationship was observed between pesticide or fertilizer use with S. frugiperda leaf damage. There were non-significant negative relationships between leaf damage and rainfall. Timely and vigilant scouting, proper timing of control measures, minimum tillage practices, and crop diversity should be included in an IPM strategy for S. frugiperda.

The major goal of this paper is to use image enhancement techniques for enhancing and extracting data in FANET applications to improve the efficiency of surveillance. The proposed conceptual system design can improve the likelihood of FANET operations in oil pipeline surveillance, and sports and media coverage with the ultimate goal of providing efficient services to those who are interested. The system architecture model is based on current scientific principles and developing technologies. A FANET, which is capable of gathering image data from video-enabled drones, and an image processing system that permits data collection and analysis are the two primary components of the system. Based on the image processing technique, a proof of concept for efficient data extraction and enhancement in FANET situations and possible services is illustrated

The process of modelling energy systems is accompanied by challenges inherently connected with mathematical modelling. However, due to modern realities in the 21st century, existing challenges are gaining in magnitude and are supplemented with new ones. Modellers are confronted with a rising complexity of energy systems and high uncertainties on different levels. In addition, interdisciplinary modelling is necessary for getting insight in mechanisms of an integrated world. At the same time models need to meet scientific standards as public acceptance becomes increasingly important. In this intricate environment model application as well as result communication and interpretation is also getting more difficult. In this paper we present the open energy modelling framework (oemof) as a novel approach for energy system modelling and derive its contribution to existing challenges. Therefore, based on literature review, we outline challenges for energy system modelling as well as existing and emerging approaches. Based on a description of the philosophy and elementary structural elements of oemof, a qualitative analysis of the framework with regard to the challenges is undertaken. Inherent features of oemof such as the open source, open data, non-proprietary and collaborative modelling approach are preconditions to meet modern realities of energy modelling. Additionally, a generic basis with an object-oriented implementation allows to tackle challenges related to complexity of highly integrated future energy systems and sets the foundation to address uncertainty in the future. Experiences from the collaborative modelling approach can enrich interdisciplinary modelling activities. Our analysis concludes that there are remaining challenges that can neither be tackled by a model nor a modelling framework. Among these are problems connected to result communication and interpretation.

Conditions under which compositions of component systems form a well-defined system-of-systems here are formulated at a fundamental level. Statement of what defines a well-defined composition and sufficient conditions guaranteeing such a result offers insight into exemplars that can be found in special cases such as differential equation and discrete event systems. For any given global state of a composition, two requirements can be stated informally as: 1) the system can leave this state, i.e., there is at least one trajectory defined that starts from the state, and 2) the trajectory evolves over time without getting stuck at a point in time. Considered for every global state, these conditions determine whether the resultant is a well-defined system and if so, whether it is non-deterministic or deterministic. We formulate these questions within the framework of iterative specifications for mathematical system models that are shown to be behaviorally equivalent to the Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism. This formalization supports definitions and proofs of the afore-mentioned conditions. Implications are drawn at the fundamental level of existence where the emergence of a system from an assemblage of components can be characterized. We focus on systems with feedback coupling where existence and uniqueness of solutions is problematic.

This paper presents a novel approach to power management techniques in energy storage system (ESS) interoperability with the energy power system (EPS) by inserting a SCADA controlled directional protection relay for improving the mode switching sequence. According with latest European standards, all necessary measures for re-synchronization and reconnection for health work of the system must be taken. The proposed approach intends to improve the “interface” between storage systems and electric power grid by using a directional relay which provides interoperability improvement by automatic recognizing and differentiating the switching sequence of the mode of operation from the fault mode. Simulated results from a small scale electrical generating system are provided. The results demonstrate that the proposed power management solution is technically ideal to achieve high quality energy while retaining the stability of the power grid network. The interoperability of PHS systems integrated with the electric power grid usually leads to perturbations in terms of frequency of the generated voltage, and for improving it we designed an automatic treating and re-connecting software module. This work regards the importance of producing electricity from green and renewable energy sources, while retaining the stability and reliability of the power grid. ESS systems are widely used to help balancing of intermittent forms of load demand on the electrical power grid at specific key moments. In this article, the pumped hydro storage (PHS) technologies are proposed as an economical way to utilize smoothly the off-peak energy or surplus energy, by pumping water to a reservoir at a higher level. During peak load periods, the stored water is discharged through the reversible pump-turbine to generate electricity to meet the peak demand controlled by designed SCADA application.

When we are asleep we lose the ability to promptly respond to external stimuli and yet we spend many hours every day in this inherently risky behavioral state. This simple fact strongly suggests that sleep must serve essential functions that rely on the brain going offline, on a daily basis, and for long periods of time. If these functions did not require partial sensory disconnection, it would be difficult to explain why they are not performed during waking. Paradoxically, despite its central role in defining sleep and what sleep does, sensory disconnection during sleep remains a mystery. We have a limited understanding of how it is implemented along the sensory pathways, we do not know whether the same mechanisms apply to all sensory modalities, nor do we know to which extent these mechanisms are shared between non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and REM sleep. The main goal of this contribution is to review some knowns and unknowns about sensory disconnection during sleep as a first step to fill this gap.

The aim of this study is to investigate transient dynamic flow characteristics of the fluid flow through 5-way electric coolant valve (PCCV : Penta-Control Coolant Valve). To achieve this goal, the present paper attempts the three-dimensional dynamic simulation of the fluid flow through the valve using a commercial CFD solver with moving mesh technique to consider flow inertia and dynamic flow in the opening and closing stages of the ball valve rotating motion. Firstly, dynamic flow characteristics and the thermal mixing inside the PCCV ball valve during the opening and closing stage was analyzed. It is found that the discrepancies between dynamic and steady state simulation is remarkable when fluxes with different levels of enthalpy and momentum flow into the PCCV leads to strong flow interference and flow inertia, while the discrepancies are relatively small at low rotation speed and weak flow interference. Then, the effect of dynamic flow characteristics of the valve on dynamic thermal mixing characteristics at two different ball valve rotational speeds and rotational directions were investigated. It was found that the dynamic flow and thermal mixing characteristics inside the PCCV are greatly affected by the rotation speed, rotation direction, and degree of flow interference between fluxes. It is helpful for the design of the better coolant control strategies and the improvement of the FCEV thermal management system.

Energy management, especially in communities, is attracting growing interest, but is often marred by confusion between the terms "Energy Information System" (EIS) and "Energy Man-agement System" (EMS). This ambiguity hinders understanding of their use and role in improv-ing energy performance. Our objective is to clarify these terms and their contribution to energy management. We used a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach to evaluate and compare the criteria of definition, objective, functionality, role, as well as correlated elements such as or-ganizational structure, responsibilities, planning and policy, according to the requirements of ISO 50001, in addition to criteria specific to the two systems. The study reveals differences in the roles of the EIS and the SME, with a complementarity of 40% between the two systems, depend-ing on the positioning of the EIS in relation to the elements of the SME process. The EIS plays a crucial role in facilitating the implementation of the EMS according to ISO 50001. This clarifica-tion contributes to a better understanding of the respective roles of these systems in energy management, thus helping communities to improve their energy performance in an effective manner.

This research aims to explore factors that influence sustainable music learning system from psychological perspective, and innovatively constructs a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. For first time, combines nonlinear system and identifies relevant factors affecting music learning by establishing data system for questionnaire answering and a quantitative model for actual academic performance. Existing research mainly looks at several factors that affect fragmented music learning system from perspective of teachers' teaching rules, emphasizing phased teaching state and learning goals of teachers as main body, thus ignoring music learning students, who are a large group of music learning objects. The research fills gap in this type of research object, focusing on sustainable music learning system from emotional perspective and students who occupy a dominant position in music learning, so as to more accurately explore impact of their emotional influencing factors on music learning system. The most prominent innovation of this study lies in construction of stochastic nonlinear system for psychological influencing factors of student music learning and a quantitative model for actual learning effect. Through analysis of nonlinear system, weight values of several negative emotions on music learning system are obtained. The comprehensive impact of emotional factors and practical learning on music learning system can be obtained by weighting them together.

Existing research mainly looks at several factors that affect fragmented music learning system from perspective of teachers' teaching rules, emphasizing phased teaching state and learning goals of teachers as main body, thus ignoring music learning students, who are a large group of music learning objects. The research fills gap in this type of research object, focusing on sustainable music learning system from emotional perspective and students who occupy a dominant position in music learning, so as to more accurately explore impact of their emotional influencing factors on music learning system. The most prominent innovation of this study lies in construction of stochastic nonlinear system for psychological influencing factors of student music learning and a quantitative model for actual learning effect. Through analysis of nonlinear system, weight values of several negative emotions on music learning system are obtained. The comprehensive impact of emotional factors and practical learning on music learning system can be obtained by weighting them together.

The effectiveness of Fuzzy Inference Systems (FISs) in manipulating uncertainty and nonlinearity makes them a subject of significant interest for decision-making in embedded systems. Accordingly, optimizing FIS hardware improves its performance, efficiency, and capabilities, leading to a better user experience, increased productivity, and cost savings. To be compatible with the limited power budget in most embedded systems, this paper presents a framework to realize ultra-low power FIS hardware. It supports optimizations for both conventional arithmetic as well as MSDF-computing to be highly consistent with MSDF-based sensors. In MSDF-computing FIS all the processes of fuzzification, inference, and defuzzification are done on serially coming data bits. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed framework, we utilized Matlab, Chisel3, and Vivado to implement it from high-level descriptions of FIS to hardware synthesis. We also developed a Scala library in Chisel3 to establish a connection between these tools, bridging the gap, and facilitating design space exploration at the arithmetic level. Furthermore, we realized an FIS for the navigation of autonomous mobile robots in unknown environments. Synthesis results show the superiority of the output of our suggested design framework in terms of resource usage as well as power and energy consumption compared to the Matlab HDL code generator output.

Although the effect of thermal modification (TM) on teak wood color is well documented, a few studies were carried out in closed system processes, as well as it remains unclear the effect of different processes on the same material. This work aimed to verify the effect of closed and open system processes of TM on the color of fast-growing teak wood. Thermally modified wood was evaluated in a closed system at 160 °C (CS160) and in an open system at 185 °C and 210 °C (OS185 and OS210). We measured the moisture content (initial and final) of wood, and the corrected mass loss (CML). The chemical analyses encompassed the contents of alpha-cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin, and extractives (total, in acetone and dichloromethane). Wood color was measured before and after TM according to the CIEL*a*b* color space. It was possible to achieve the same color using different processes of thermal modification (CS160 and OS210). TM reduced wood lightness (L*), red-green chromaticity coordinate (a*), and yellow-blue chromaticity coordinate (b*). L* and a* had the bigger and lower variations, respectively. The color of thermally modified wood was significantly changed, even at the mildest condition tested (OS185, 0.33% CML).

In this paper, we investigate the cumulative historical entropy of the lifetime of an n-component coherent system under the assumption that all system components have failed at time t. Using the system signature, we can calculate the cumulative historical entropy of the system’s lifespan, which is an important aspect in determining a system’s predictability. This research produces a number of significant results, including expressions, bounds, and ordering aspects for this measure. In addition, we offer a method for finding a preferred system based on cumulative Kullback-Leibler discriminating information that is closely related to the parallel system. These findings provide important insights into the predictability and dependability of coherent systems, emphasizing the importance of this field.

Recently, there has been growing interest in alternative measures of uncertainty, including cumulative residual entropy. In this paper, we consider a mixed system consisting of n components, assuming that all components are operational at time t. We use the system signature to calculate the cumulative residual entropy of the mixed system’s remaining lifetime. This measure is a useful criterion for assessing the predictability of a system’s lifetime. We study several results related to the cumulative residual entropy of mixed systems, including expressions, limits, and order properties. These results shed light on the behavior of the measure and provide insights into the predictability of mixed systems. In addition, we propose a criterion for selecting a preferred system based on the relative residual cumulative entropy. This criterion is closely related to the parallel system and provides a practical way to choose the best system configuration. Overall, the present study of cumulative residual entropy and the proposed selection criterion provide valuable insights into the predictability of mixed systems and can be applied in various fields.

For a system that turns out to be inactive in time t, the past entropy is considered as an uncertainty measure for the past lifetime distribution. In this study, we consider a coherent system that includes n components and has the property that all the components of the system have failed at time t. To assess the predictability of the coherent system’s lifetime, we use the system’s signature to determine the Rényi entropy of its past lifetime. We study several analytical results, including expressions, bounds, and order properties for this measure.

There has been rampant fold-ups, merger and acquisitions occurring in the Ghanaian banking industry. Then, the questions arise: Is the Ghanaian Financial System in Crisis? This study was conducted to find answers to these problems unsolved with prior literature. A sample of seventy customers of the Royal Bank, 8 employees of the Royal Bank and 2 managers of the Royal Bank were selected for a case-survey. The study also monitored the Trend of the Ghanaian Financial System through the reading and monitoring of daily news on the Financial System and reports of banks. The data from the field and the secondary data from news and reports were analysed symmetrically. The study drew on Minsky’s Financial Crisis Theory to explain the phenomenon in the Ghanaian economy and to draw predictions of what would happen in other developing economies. The study found out that: (1) The Ghanaian financial system is fragile and it holds true for most developing economies; (2) The financial system suffers greatly when the confidence level of customers falls significantly; (3) Management information systems raises the confidence level of customers (borrowers and lenders) such that there is a greater fall and impact in times of instability in the economy; (4) The higher the level of MIS adoption in an unstable economy, the more fragile the Financial System becomes and (5) A higher adoption of Management Information Systems in a Fragile Financial System indirectly contributes to Financial Crisis of the Financial System.

This paper deals with the problem of real-time management of Smart Grids. For this sake, the energy management is integrated with the power system through a telecommunication system. The use of Multiagent Systems leads the proposed algorithm to find the best-integrated solution, taking into consideration the operating scenario and the system characteristics. The proposed technique is tested with the help of an academic microgrid, so the results may be replicated.

This paper reviews the design and component of two types of RWHS, namely roof harvesting system (RHS) and pond harvesting system (PHS). The performance in terms of quantity and quality of collected rainwater and energy consumption for RWHS with different capacities were evaluated, as well as the benefits and challenges particularly in environmental, economic and social aspects. Presently, RHS is more commonly applied but its effectiveness is limited by its small scale. The PHS is of larger scale and has greater potentials and effectiveness as an alternative water supply system. Results also indicate the many advantages of PHS especially in terms of economics, environmental aspects and volume of water harvested. While RHS may be suited to individual or existing buildings, PHS has greater potentials and should be applied in newly developed urban areas with wet equatorial climate.

Age-in-place can reduce the progress of dementia syndrome and improve the quality of life of the sufferers and their families. This work proposes an innovative information home support system to be established at the houses of people suffering from dementia. The main innovation of the system are its transparent character that overcomes the need for training of the sufferer, as well as the exploitation of a well-known technique for dementia, namely music therapy. It addresses the need of people suffering from dementia as well as their familiars to be recognized by them and have better interaction and collaboration. The system offers a ubiquitous recognition system, just by using smart devices like smart-phones or smart-wristbands. When a familiar person is detected in the house, then a sound file is reproduced on smart speakers placed in the house, in order to trigger the memory, based on the principles of music therapy. The system reproduced the appropriate time at 100% of the cases and the benefits of music therapy are evident daily. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first system of its kind ever reported in the literature.

In graduate programs such as social work, field education is the signature pedagogy of education. As such, student placement with an appropriate field education agency is critical to ensure academic success and career readiness. A variety of Learning Management System (LMS) and Integrated Planning and Advising Service (IPAS) technologies have been developed to fully integrate technology into the educational system and streamline and improve the learning experience for students, educators, and administrators. Few (if any) of the existing solutions have capabilities to match students with field educators on the basis of an individual student’s completed coursework and area of specialization, as well as field educator needs and opportunities. This paper describes our experience developing a custom LMS/IPAS system—the School of Social Work information System (SSWiS)—that was designed specifically for student learning, faculty advising, and academic administration within our social work graduate program. We present the challenges that motivated the design of the SSWiS before describing the architecture and functionality of our solution. We then discuss our preliminary evaluation results. We conclude with a discussion of the benefits and limitations of our system in the context of today’s technical needs in graduate education in social work and other fields.

Since the advent of the Internet, there has been a significant shift from wired to wireless communication between devices. The volume of data transmitted has surged, primarily driven by the exponential growth of network services, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and online users. This trend became especially pronounced with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the Internet's role and significance expanded dramatically. People began to spend more time online, engaging in activities like e-learning, remote work, and online shopping. Concurrently, concerns about the security of wireless communication channels have escalated. As more data is stored and transmitted over the Internet, cybercriminals are actively seeking unauthorized access to it to further their malicious objectives. Through a comprehensive literature review in the realm of wireless network security and privacy, it has become evident that several factors render these networks susceptible to vulnerabilities. The aim of this paper is to shed light on the major and common security and privacy challenges faced by existing wireless networks. Additionally, it seeks to demonstrate the array of techniques available to mitigate these issues. Ultimately, this paper will culminate in an in-depth analysis of cybersecurity measures to address the issues in wireless networks.

The ever-evolving landscape of technology continually drives the demand for more robust and secure systems. Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IPS) play a pivotal role in safeguarding digital infrastructures. IPS harnesses a blend of cutting-edge technologies, specifically Network-Based, Wireless-Based, and Host-Based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), to fortify network security. This multifaceted approach enhances the system's capacity to scrutinize incoming data and network traffic, effectively reducing the risk of intrusion. In the realm of malicious activity detection, IPS employs a diverse array of techniques and mechanisms. Our proposed IPS integrates both anomaly-based and signature-based analysis approaches. In signature-based analysis, intrusions are identified by matching data collected from various activities with pre-defined signatures, employing rule-based methods to detect anomalies effectively. In the anomaly-based analysis approach, the system juxtaposes current activities with a baseline of normal behaviour to flag any deviations. This is achieved through distance-based methods, ensuring a well-rounded approach to threat detection. Our comprehensive prevention system encompasses a suite of security measures, including anti-virus software, Deep Packet Inspection, and Quarantine. These components work in synergy to detect and thwart malicious activities effectively. Even when concealed or hidden, the IPS remains a reliable sentinel, ensuring the integrity of your digital ecosystem. This review delves into the intricate web of terminologies and concepts surrounding Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems, shedding light on the evolving technology landscape and the critical role IPS plays in bolstering cybersecurity.

Runway Safety Assistant Foreseeing Excursions (RUN.S.A.F.E.) is a complete embedded system solution that predicts a potential runway overrun of a civil aviation aircraft, during the Take off and Landing. This work examines the feasibility of such a system, through the algorithms and computations that predict the overruns. The system executes both static and dynamic calculations, the former being dependent, while the latter independent to the user’s inputs. Both outcomes and the runway’s length continuously estimate in real time if the process will end up in an overrun. All inputs are specifically selected, to either be available to the pilots, or to be retrieved from the existing avionics systems of the cockpit. A performance evaluation is conducted on both static and dynamic calculations, and metrics unveil the accuracy of the predictions and the time needed to converge to a reliable result. The solution is adapted for a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with CFM56-7B engines, yet the calculations also apply for similar aicrafts, equipped with a tricycle Landing gear and turbofan engines, namely the whole Boeing 737 family, the Airbus A320 family etc.. The system is aligned with current standards and certification specifications, where applicable.

The proliferation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) networks is increasing, driven by their capacity to deliver automated services tailored to the varied demands of numerous smart city applications. Trust, security, and privacy remain paramount in the public domain. Traditional centralized network designs fall short of ensuring device authentication, data integrity, and privacy within UAV networks’ highly dynamic and adaptable environments. Decentralized reputation systems emerge as a promising solution to enhance the reliability and trustworthiness of data and communications within these networks while safeguarding UAV security. This paper presents an exhaustive survey of trust and reputation systems, exploring existing frameworks and proposed innovations alongside their inherent challenges. It highlights the crucial role of reputation systems in strengthening trust, security, and privacy throughout these networks and discusses various strategies to mitigate existing vulnerabilities. As a useful resource for researchers and practitioners seeking to advance the state of the art in UAV network security, we hope this survey will spark further community discussion and stimulate innovative ideas in this burgeoning field.

Italy has been defined as the "logistics platform" of the Mediterranean Sea. The Italian port system, with 11,6 million TEUs handled and 61,4 million passengers by 2022 (Assoporti data Jan‐Dec 2022) [1] is the key to guarantee this condition through adequate levels of reliability, safety and sustainability. This contribution addresses port logistics and shipping, focusing on primary issues related to the energy sector with a specific focus on what can be observed in the Italian context. Specifically, decarbonization of the maritime sector and related infrastructural problems (e.g. Cold Ironing or alternative fuels, where the uncertainty about resources availability and related cost do not allow for an easy strategic planning by both the shipowner and the port authority), as well as policies such the Emission Trading System (ETS) will be analyzed. All these issues, if addressed with a critical review, could represent the driving force of the national port sector for its growth and its competitiveness at a global scale.

This article develops applications of the generalized method of lines to numerical solutions of the time-independent, incompressible Navier-Stokes system in fluid mechanics. We recall that for such a method, the domain of the partial differential equation in question is discretized in lines (or more generally in curves), and the concerning solutions are written on these lines as functions of the boundary conditions and the domain boundary shape.

Rice wheat cropping system prevailed in more than fifty percent areas of rice belt of central and upper Punjab. In this area yield of wheat is curtailed every year due to late harvesting of rice crop. In addition to this, lack of machinery for direct sowing of wheat into combine harvested rice is a major limitation for timely wheat sowing due to presence of heavy straw load dropped by the combine harvester. A field experiment was planned and executed during two consecutive years 2017-18 and 2018-19 at Agronomic Research Station Farooqabad to evaluate the various stubble management techniques for the sowing of wheat in a rice-wheat cropping system. The Experiment consist of four treatments Happy seeder (Zero tillage), conventional sowing without burning of rice stubble, Rotavator two times, and Conventional sowing with the burning of rice stubble. The trail was arranged as a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications having a net plot size of 8 m x 20 m. The Treatments have significant effects on Plant height, Number of productive tillers, 1000- grain weight, and grain yield. Maximum plant height (94.74 and 94.25 cm), numbers of productive tillers/m2 (324.00 and 322.25), 1000-grain weight (36.35 and 36.20 g), grain yield (3780 and 3613 kg/ha), and benefit-cost ratio (2.54 and 2.43) were recorded from the treatment happy seeder (Zero tillage) during both years respectively. It is concluded that the sowing of wheat with a happy seeder (Zero tillage) is an appropriate technique in the rice-wheat cropping system by protecting the environment and soil health from the burning of rice stubbles.

Differential equation models to understand interaction between plant and nutrient solution are presented. The root cells selectively emit H+ ions with active transport consuming ATPs to establish electrical gradient along the cell membrane. It establishes electrical field with Nernst potential to make positively charged ions outside the cell membrane flow into the root cell. Anion influx is also modulated by H+ ion concentration because plant root cell absorbs negatively charged particles with symport. If an anion collides with H+ cell to make net charge as neutral, at symport channel, it can flow through. In this paper, mathematical models for cation and anion absorption are introduced. Cation absorption model was induced from Ohm's law combined with Goldman's equation. Anion absorption model is similar to chemical reaction rate model. Both models have physiological terms influenced by gene expression pattern, species or phenotypes. Cation model also includes terms for ion's kinetic and electrical properties, growth of plant and interaction between the root and the surroundings. Simulation for 20 different sets of coefficients showed that the physiology-related coefficient has important role on nutrition absorption tendencies of plants.

We have presented a controllable and human-readable polynomial neural network (CR-PNN) that is the first human-readable neural network. One can imagine its influence on system identification. Subsequently, we developed a relation spectrum in a medical application, which is likely to stand alongside the Fourier spectrum. However, the system analysis methodology is incomplete in contrast to signal processing methodology. Here, we presented the system filters for the first time. In this paper, we used the simulation system to verify the availability of the system analysis methodology. The system analysis methodology showed great properties in system identification and filter. The contribution of this paper is the system analysis methodology: transform method (CR-PNN), relation spectrum, and system filter design.

Climate projections show that southern Indonesia such as West Nusa Tenggara is projected to experience a lower precipitation and higher temperatures. To date, research on climate change impact on Indonesian rice production yield is limited. As climate change is projected to decrease rainfall and to increase temperatures, this paper offers a qualitative analysis using system archetypes to understand the impacts of climate change on rice production. Two system archetypes are identified including Limits to Growth and Success to Successful. Both archetypes explain that rice production is hampered by high minimum temperature as photosynthesis output is decreased by increasing respiration. This paper shows that using a simple tool, system archetypes, we can describe the impacts of climate change on rice production. The outputs of this study such as a causal loop diagram and system archetypes can be a basis to develop a simulation model in understanding the impacts of climate change on main crops.

We have established some new oscillation criteria of solutions of differential system by using generalized Riccati transformation and inequality technique. The obtained results are illustrated with suitable examples.

Power system decentralization has been an emerging topic for the past decade in an effort to improve power quality and environment protection via increased integration of renewable energy sources. Towards these objectives, decentralized microgrids have been proposed and thoroughly investigated in terms of technical capabilities and economic performance. In fact, the planning and actual operation of small-scale, decentralized microgrids has started in countries such as Canada, Japan, USA, UK and other countries. It is expected that the research in this area will progress and eventually take over the existing paradigm of large-scale power generation in the future. These small-size decentralized microgrids could be connected with nearby microgrids under normal operating conditions, but under special events, such as natural or man-made disasters, they would be disconnected and run in islanded mode. Under such high impact – low probability events, the microgrid must have resiliency to successfully re-connect with other microgrids and the main grid. In this paper, an Energy Management System (EMS) for a microgrid having a resiliency function, allowing to operate under islanded mode after an accident, is proposed. The proposed tool, called Resilient Energy Management System (ResEMS), aims at procuring reserve power into the microgrid’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) effectively, by importing it from the nearby connected power system. The accident is assumed to be a predictable natural disaster, which means that the accident occurrence time, duration and level of damage can be estimated. The proposed ResEMS has been applied to a microgrid comprising of a BESS, a diesel generator and several photovoltaic devices. The simulation results verify its beneficial operation.

The sustainable development of an area is highly dependable on reliable electrical energy supply. Microgrids are important in integrating distributed energy resources (DERs) using power electronic converters. However, microgrid control becomes challenging with the increasing number of distributed generators and loads. With the conventional droop control method, power contributions from DER converters cannot be accurately shared due to a mismatch of line impedances. In this paper, an augmented hierarchical control mechanism is proposed to solve the issues mentioned above. This hierarchical control mechanism consists of primary and secondary controllers. The primary stage utilized the droop controller to improve optimal power flow, mainly for the resistive network. The secondary stage is based on an improved methodology to compensate for the voltage and frequency variations during small and large signal disturbances. Moreover, the modelling and analysis for PMSG-based wind energy conversion systems are also presented. The response of the primary controller for the active and reactive power sharing is investigated. The analysis emphasizes the demonstration of optimal power-sharing under normal and abnormal conditions for the considered load. Finally, the suggested robust controller's performance is evaluated in MATLAB environment and simulation results show the proposed scheme's superiority under different operating conditions.

Risk-based redispatch optimization is proposed as a methodology to support the Transmission System Operator (TSO) with preventive remedial actions obtained by extending the security constrained unit commitment/economic dispatch with constraints resulting from the risk assessed for the power system. Although being heuristic, the methodology is based on comprehensive dynamic security assessment as time-domain simulations are used, allowing to express the degree of all types of instabilities, e.g., caused by contingencies, in monetary terms. Therefore, the risk is assessed as the expected value of the cost incurred by the TSO. Such approach forms a new pathway to including risk in planning procedures already used by TSOs. Results obtained for the IEEE39 dynamic power system, with costs assigned to load shedding and generator tripping due to single transmission lines short-circuits, are shown as a reference case.

This paper proposes a real-time local positioning system (RT-LPs) utilizing a mobile platform equipped with three anchor nodes placed in a right-angle triangle formation for a real-time locating system (RTLS). After deriving an analytic formula to calculate the target position utilizing the measured distances among anchor nodes and the target node, we find that four parameters have an effect on the position error of the target node. The spacing between anchors is a design parameter that must be large enough to the reduce position error. However, the distance from the anchor node to the target node is an operation parameter that must be small enough to reduce the position error. Additionally, the measured ranges among the anchors and the target node have probabilistic distributions with a mean and variance, which are dominant parameters that have effects on the position error. A comparison study was conducted to determine the effects of the parameters of the target position in both a simulation and an experiment, showing rates of approximately 4% ~ 10%. These findings indicate that our simulation can work properly with the proposed method after assuming that the distance error is a Gaussian model.

Spatio-temporal aspects of data lead to critical information. Sensors capture data at all scales continually so it is imperative that useful information be extracted ubiquitously and regularly. Location plays a vital part by helping understand relations between datasets. It is crucial to link developmental works with spatial attributes and current challenge is to create an open platform that manages real-time sensor data and provides critical spatial analytics atop expert domain knowledge provided in the system. That is a two-faced problem where the solution tackles not only data from multiple sources but also runs data management platform, a spatial data infrastructure(SDI) as backbone framework able to harness sensor web(SW). The paper proposes development of such a globally shared open spatial expert system(ES), SmaCiSENS, a first of a kind geo-enabled knowledge based(KB) ES for multiple fields, smarter cities to climate modeling. SmaCiSENS is integration of SW and SDI with domain KB on data and problems, ready to infer solutions. The paper describes an architecture for semantic enablement for SW, SDI; connect interfaces, functions of SDI and SW, and sensor data application program interfaces (APIs) to better manage climate modeling, geohazard, global changes, and other vital areas of attention and action.

As an option to deal with the insulin-dependent disease, a recent commuted PD control strategy is designed and carefully analyzed for different clinic diabetic patients. This controller approach is mainly conceived to stabilize the glucose blood concentration in a diabetic patient around its basal value, hence avoiding extreme situations such as hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. This control strategy receives two inputs carefully tuned to actuate when the measured variable is out of a prescribed healthy zone. Therefore, one of these variables is invoked to decrease the glucose concentration to insulin injection, and the other is employed to increase the glucose absorption, both by using a proper PD controller. According to our numerical experiments, our controller approach performs well, even when there is an external disturbance in the controlled system.

In Lubumbashi, the capital of Haut Katanga in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), diesel power plants are a common source of electricity. The need to utilise local renewable energy sources in DR Congo has increased due to the unreliability of the state grid and the rising cost of running Diesel generators. Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and batteries, in particular, have recently seen significant price drops. Therefore, it is important for operators and suppliers to choose optimal generators together with a renewable energy system to lessen the energy deficit. Diesel generators are still widely used in DRC, but their efficiency pales in contrast to that of more recent power facilities. Consuming fossil fuels results in high expenses for upkeep and operation, in addition to severe environmental damage. This study assessed the feasibility of using local weather and technical data to evaluate the efficiency of a diesel power plant hybridized with a PV system. Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER) simulations suggest that the hybrid system schedule is preferable due to its many economic and environmental advantages for the local community and its inhabitants. The promotion of such a hybrid system, then, may encourage the sustainable economic development of a stable source of electricity for the Congo Region.

Groundwater degradation is a global problem linked to irrigation agriculture and aggravated by climate change. In drylands, where aquifer recharge is low, irrigation has emerged as an engine of economic growth. This problem falls under the paradigm of desertification, as it fits the definition of this complex problem in that the degradation of drylands is due to climatic variations and inappropriate human activities. Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN), the response of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification to the lack of progress in tackling desertification, is integrated into Sustainable Development Goal 15.3 and provides the adequate framework for implementing effective solutions. LDN prioritizes prevention strategies, and early warning systems coupled to integrated simulation models is a sound approach. We analyze the dynamics of a coastal aquifer in southern Spain, a “desertification landscape” according to the Spanish National Action Plan to Combat Desertification. For this purpose, we have (i) adapted a generic desertification model that considers socio-ecological systems as a particular case of predator-prey systems; and (ii) coupled to this model a risk analysis to calculate the probabilities of groundwater salinization under the current scenario of water resources use, driven by the expansion of greenhouse agriculture supported by external water transfer. The risk of desertification is close to 100%: groundwater salinity is 40 dS m-1 (well above tomato tolerance, 3.5 dS m-1), and 2.4 Mm3 yr–1 water transfer is needed to support the 631 ha of greenhouses. This worrying result suggests that complimentary solutions should be promoted to deactivate the ongoing process of desertification. Among them, we propose reclaimed water, diversifying the economy, or promoting crops adapted to aridity. This simulation framework shows how to explore the future of a socio-ecosystem under current scenarios and others that consider climate change, the energy crisis, or the impact of alternative solutions.

This article analyses entropy changes triggered by specific events in deterministic and indeterministic systems. Article considers a simple model consisting of water in a cuvette, an ice cube in the device above the cuvette and a random number generator (RNG) that controls the probability of dropping the ice into water. Article introduces the entropic potential Z(T, A) of an event A occurred in a system R at the moment Т₀, which describes the influence of the event A to the entropy of the system R in the future (for the moments T>Т₀). The entropic potential of an event Z(T,A) can be calculated as the difference between the mathematical expectations of entropy of the system R for the moment T (T>Т₀) made immediately before and immediately after the event A as Z(T, A) = Ŝ_T(Т₀+dT) - Ŝ_T(Т₀-dT). Article also presents examples of calculations of the entropic potentials of events in indeterministic systems with different probabilities of events. Since real-life systems are mostly indeterministic, the entropic potentials of events in real-life usually have non-zero values. The entropic potentials of the events "useful" for the system are negative, and entropic potentials of the events "harmful" for the system are positive.

Intending to analyze the role of nuclear power in an integrated energy system, we used the IESA-Opt-N cost minimization model focusing on four key themes: system-wide impacts of nuclear power, uncertain technological costs, flexible generation, and cross-border electricity trade. We demonstrate that the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) alone should not be used to demonstrate the economic feasibility of a power generation technology. For instance, under the default techno-economic assumptions, particularly the 5% discount rate and exogenous electricity trade potentials, it is cost-optimal for the Netherlands to invest in 9.6 GWe nuclear capacity by 2050. However, its LCOE is 34 €/MWh higher than offshore wind. Moreover, we found that nuclear power investments can reduce demand for variable renewable energy sources in the short term and higher energy independence (i.e., lower imports of natural gas, biomass, and electricity) in the long term. Furthermore, investing in nuclear power can reduce the mitigation costs of the Dutch energy system by 1.6% and 6.2% in 2040 and 2050, and 25% lower national CO₂ prices by 2050. However, this cost reduction is not significant given the odds of higher nuclear financing costs and longer construction times. In addition, this study has shown that lower financing costs (e.g., EU taxonomy support) considerably reduce the relevance of nuclear cost uncertainties on its investments. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the economic feasibility of national nuclear power investments can vary considerably depending on the cross-border electricity trade assumptions. Additionally, we found that lowering the cost of small modular reactors has more impact on their economic feasibility than increasing their generation flexibility. In conclusion, under the specific assumptions of this study, nuclear power can play a complementary role (in parallel to the wind and solar power) in supporting the Dutch energy transition from the sole techno-economic point of view.

The effect of the negative effective mass emerging in the gravitating core-spring-shell system is considered. The effect appears when the entire system is exerted to the external harmonic force and the frequency of external force approaches to the critical frequency from above. The critical frequency depends on the density of the self-gravitating system only. The scaling law predicting the value of for condensed phases is derived. The generalization of the effect for the Coulomb-like forces is reported

In the development of power systems it is indicated very often, that transformation of power systems should be carried out in accordance with the idea of energy democracy. This will develop energy communities, that are trying to meet energy needs by using local renewable generation sources. This may result with a temporary low load on the MV lines connecting the community grid and the power system. Such state may cause incorrect operation of power protection systems. This can cause an extended protection operation time, due to decision algorithms inactivity at low values of measurement currents. Therefore, the detailed MV lines overcurrent digital protection model and a dynamic model of the power network were developed. The simulation results are showing that the settings of the parameters activating the protection decision algorithms affect their operation time in dynamic conditions. The conclusion is that the development of the power protection automatics must be carried out in the same time (preferably in advance) with the change of the power system operation model. This is very important for future power systems with high penetration energy communities and renewable generation sources.

In Safety Management System (SMS), the risk management plays a key role for the prevention of accidents. The aim of this paper is to propose a Safety Management model using a system dynamic approach to update conventional industrial safety into the new industrial safety 4.0 that is time to developed. This study analyzes some safety 4.0 aspects lacked in the Bhopal incidental event by considering different data detected in the industrial Plant. The model proposed in this paper discusses the relationships among the main causes that have contributed to the occurrence of the incidental event studied, such as broken safety devices, inadequate personnel experience, operator decisions, manager production strategy, policy decision, as deduced from the relevant literature about Bhopal incidental dynamic.

The following series of Articles about a contextual system-theory, with focus on biological systems, shall give a guideline of how to explore complex systems. It is written not only for scientists, and therefore I will try to describe part of the way of understanding as an intuitive approach. This approach will also help scientists to get a deeper understanding of complexity. Some definitions and rules may seem at first simple and obvious. If practiced in a multidimensional complex system, one will see the difficulties. Even without mathematization or computer modeling the multidimensional sub space, which we try to describe phenomenologically for approaching the understanding of this Subsystem, will need a lot of training. Easily we get lost in the multidimensional world. Some of the chapters here and in the following publications of this series are written for specialists, but it will always come back to the essence of a phenomenological description. Concepts like Symbolic programming, Object oriented modeling, simulation and optimizing as well as experimental and mathematical approaches are the described tools to unpuzzle a complex scenario.

Initial evaluations of the System of Rice Intensification in India and elsewhere have mainly fo-cused on its impact on yield and income and have usually covered just one or two seasons. Re-searchers at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research conducted a more comprehensive evalua-tion of SRI methods over six years (six wet and six dry seasons), comparing these methods with three other rice crop management systems: modified, partially mechanized SRI (MSRI); direct-seeded rice (DSR); and normal transplanting with inundated fields (NTP). SRI grain yield was found to be about 50% higher than with NTP (6.35 t ha-1 vs 4.27 t ha-1), while the MSRI yield was essentially the same (6.34 t ha-1) and 16% higher than with DSR (5.45 t ha-1). Compared to NTP, SRI methods significantly enhanced soil microbial populations over time, bacteria by 12%, fungi by 8%, and actinomycetes by 20%. Indicators of biological activity in the rhizosphere were also higher, dehydrogenase by 8.5% and FDA enzymes by 16%. Glucosidase activity, an indicator of soil organic matter, was 78% higher. Relative to normal transplanting methods, SRI reduced GHG emissions by 21%, while DSR reduced them by 23% and MSRI by 13%, which indicated pos-itive effects of the alternate and improved methods over normal transplanting. Economic analy-sis showed that both gross and net economic returns to be higher with SRI than with MSRI and the other management systems evaluated. While the six-year study documented many ad-vantages of SRI crop management, the MSRI version evaluated is a promising adaptation that provide similar benefits but with lower labor requirements.

We define the function $Col: \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{N}$ as the Collatz function, given by $3n + 1$ if $n$ is odd and $\displaystyle\frac{n}{2}$ if $n$ is even \cite{Lagarias1990}. The conjecture postulates that for any positive integer, at some point, its iteration will reach 1, or equivalently, every orbit will fall into the periodic cycle $\{4, 2, 1\}$. Two conditions would invalidate the conjecture: the existence of a divergent orbit or the presence of another cycle. In 2019 Terence Tao \cite{tao} proved that almost all orbits converge to the trivial cycle of $\{1,4,2\}$, in this work we will prove the non-existence of divergent orbits. The central idea is to decompose the dynamic system $Col$ into a binary dynamic system, generated by different compositions of two functions. This differs from a typical dynamic system, which is generated by the iteration of a single function. We consider the system generated by the functions $\theta, \psi: \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}$, defined as $\displaystyle\theta(x) = \frac{x}{2}$ and $\displaystyle\psi(x) = \frac{3x + 1}{2}$, denoted as $\langle \theta, \psi \rangle$. We examine sequences of functions in $\langle \theta, \psi \rangle$ of the form $S_k(x) = s_k \circ S_{k-1}(x)$ with $s_k \in \{\theta, \psi\}$. We define a function that assigns to each element of these sequences an integer, called the minimum value positive integer or simply the minimum value. This corresponds to the smallest positive integer $n$ such that $S_k(n)$ is an integer. As we will prove later, the minimum value is monotonically increasing, meaning that increasing the terms of the sequence will never result in a value lower than the previous one. Based on this behavior, we distinguish two types of sequences: stable ones, where the minimum value is constant from a certain point, and unstable ones, where the minimum value is divergent. The main result for unstable sequences is that when the slope of the sequence is divergent, the sequence is unstable. From this result, we can prove that there are no divergent orbits for the function $Col$.

An actual problem of inertial navigation related to the creation of a multifunctional device that performs the functions of a meter for both angular velocities and linear accelerations is considered. The possibility of constructing such a device based on a hybrid-type modulation micromechanical gyroscope has shown. The ability to measure linear accelerations has provided by the presence of a small symmetrical distance between the axes of the elastic suspension relative to the center of mass of the sensor element. A mathematical model of the device ("heavy" gyroscope) as a high-quality three-dimensional oscillatory system is constructed. It has shown numerically that the reaction of the system to the movement of an object has, along with precession, the observed nutation. This allows you to develop an algorithm for separating information about the angular and linear motion of the base and implement a two-component angular velocity meter and a two-component linear acceleration meter in one device.

We consider finite and unconditionally convergent infinite expansions of elements of a given topological monoid G in some base B c G as words of the alphabet B, identify insignificantly different words and define a multiplication and a topology on the set of classes of these words. Classical numeral systems are particular cases of this construction. Then we study algebraic and topological properties of the obtained monoid and, for some cases, find conditions under which it is canonically topologically isomorphic to the initial one.

Origin, mechanics and properties of the Solar System are analysed in the framework of the Complete Relativity theory (by the same author). According to Complete Relativity, everything is relative. Any apparent absolutism (notably invariance to scale of dimensional constants, absolute elementariness, invariance to time) is an illusion stemming from limits imposed by [or on] polarized observers that will inevitably lead to misinterpretation of phenomena (another illusion) occurring on non-directly observable scales or even on observable but distant scales in space or time. If everything is relative, reference frames will exist where particles are planets and where planets are living beings. Earth is, therefore, analysed here in more detail, both as a particle and, as a living evolving being (of, hypothesized, extremely introverted intelligence). The analysis confirms the postulates and hypotheses of the theory (ie. existence of discrete vertical energy levels) with a significant degree of confidence. During the analysis, some new hypotheses have emerged. These are discussed and confirmed with various degrees of confidence. To increase confidence or refute some hypotheses, experimental verification is necessary. Main conclusions that stem from my research and are further confirmed in this paper are: universes are, indeed, completely relative; Solar System is a scaled (inflated, in some interpretations) Carbon isotope with a nucleus in a condensed (bosonic) state and components in various vertically excited states; life is common everywhere, albeit extroverted complex forms are present on planetary surfaces only during planetary neurogenesis; anthropogenic climate change is only a part (trigger from one perspective) of bigger global changes; major extinction events on a surface of a planet are relative extinctions, a regular part of transformation and transfer of life in the process of planetary neurogenesis.

This paper proposes an approach for image data extraction and driving behavior analysis using geographic information and driving data. Information derived from geographic and global positioning systems was used for image data extraction. In addition, we used an onboard diagnostic II and a controller area network bus logger to record driving data for driving behavior analysis. Driving behavior was analyzed using sparse automatic encoders and data exploration to detect abnormal and aggressive behavior. A regression analysis was used to derive the relationship between aggressive driving behavior and road facilities. Several traffic improvements were proposed for specific intersections and roads. The results indicate that lane ratios without lane markings and with straight lane markings are important features that affect aggressive driving behaviors.

The convergence of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) has made remarkable strides in the realm of industry. The IoT devices in this computing model gather data from various sources and send it to edge servers for real-time processing, which presents a challenge to the existing message queue systems in Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) Edge computing. These systems lack the adaptability to respond to the current state of the system, such as changes in the number of devices, message size, and frequency, and optimize the message transmission mechanism accordingly. Hence, it is critical to devise an approach that can effectively decouple message processing and mitigate workload fluctuations in the AIoT computing environment. To this end, this study introduces a distributed message queue system that is specifically tailored to the AIoT edge environment, utilizing a reinforcement learning approach to optimize message queue performance. Empirical findings reveal that this pioneering method significantly improves system throughput while handling varying message scenarios.

Load Frequency Control (LFC) is essential to ensure the stability and performance of power systems. In this study, a novel optimization algorithm, the Sea Horse Optimizer (SHO) algorithm, was proposed for optimizing controller parameters in LFC problems of power system. The proposed SHO algorithm was tested on a two-area power system with photovoltaic system and reheat thermal units, under three different scenarios: a 10% load change in both area, large load disturbances, and varying solar radiation. The proposed algorithm optimizes the gain parameters of PI/PID controllers using performance metrics such as Integral of Absolute value of the Error (IAE), Integral of Square Error (ISE), Integral of Time multiplied by Square Error (ITSE), and Integral of Time multiplied by Absolute Error (ITAE). The study compared the performance of the SHO-optimized controller with other reported optimization algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Firefly Algorithm (FA), Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), and Modified Whale Optimization Algorithm (MWOA). The study also evaluated the accuracy and effectiveness of the controllers using performance metrics such as Settling Time, Overshoot (M+), and Undershoot (M-). The results show that the SHO-tuned controller significantly reduces overshoot, undershoot, and settling time of the system oscillations compared to other algorithms. The study provides valuable insights into the optimization of LFC controllers and presents a significant contribution to the literature with its novel algorithm. The proposed SHO algorithm can be considered an effective alternative solution method for LFC in power systems.

Since the launch of Protein Data Bank (PDB) in 1971, Cartesian coordinate system (CCS) has been the default approach to specify atomic positions in biomolecular experimental structures with X, Y and Z. In 2020, a local spherical coordinate system (LSCS) approach was proposed as an alternative to CCS, i.e., ρ, θ and φ. Recently, the continued application of deep learning technology in protein structure prediction (PSP) saw a leap forward in the accuracy of PSP, as evidenced by AlphaFold of Google’s DeepMind. However, there still is room for the improvement of the performances of PSP algorithms to date. Given that geometrically, CCS and LSCS are like the two sides of a coin, this short article puts forward a hypothesis that the time is now ripe to end the half-a-century burial of ρ, θ and φ in PDB, and use them as LSCS features for the design of novel PSP algorithms in future.

Emotion plays a powerful role in humans’ interaction with robots. In order to express more human-friendly emotions, robots need the capability of contextual appraisal that expresses the emotional relevance of various targets in the spatiotemporal situation. In this paper, an emotional appraisal methodology is proposed in this study to cope with such contexts. Specifically, the Ortony, Clore, and Collins model is abstracted and simplified to approximate an emotional appraisal model in the form of a sentence-based cognitive system. The contextual emotion appraisal is modeled by formulating the emotional relationships among multiple targets and the emotional transition with events and time passing. To verify the proposed robotic system’s feasibility, simulations were conducted for scenarios where it emotional interacts with humans manipulating liked or disliked objects on a table. This experiment demonstrated that the robot's emotion can variously change over time like human by using a proposed formula for emotional valence, which is moderated by emotion appraisal of occurring events.

The implementation of teaching interventions in learning needs has received considerable attention, as the provision of the same educational conditions to all students, is pedagogically ineffective. In contrast, more effectively considered the pedagogical strategies that adapt to the real individual skills of the students. An important innovation in this direction is the Adaptive Educational Systems (AES) that support automatic modeling study and adjust the teaching content on educational needs and students' skills. Effective utilization of these educational approaches can be enhanced with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in order to the substantive content of the web acquires structure and the published information is perceived by the search engines. This study proposes a novel Adaptive Educational eLearning System (AEeLS) that has the capacity to gather and analyze data from learning repositories and to adapt these to the educational curriculum according to the student skills and experience. It is a novel hybrid machine learning system that combines a Semi-Supervised Classification method for ontology matching and a Recommendation Mechanism that uses a hybrid method from neighborhood-based collaborative and content-based filtering techniques, in order to provide a personalized educational environment for each student.

In this paper, we are proposing a bio-inspired location management (LM) technique for personal communication system (PSC). It is based on artificial immune system (AIS), with self-adaptation and self-updates attributes in order to perform the location management, and work helps to achieve the better quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) for the mobile users. Here, we are suggesting a modified mobile switching center (MSC) architecture, and an adaptive self-modified location management procedure. The proposed mobile switching centre architecture has an advantage of rule-based and fact-based system to store the rules and fact related to location management procedure, and it shows the intelligent behavior of system. The mobile switching centre calculates the best method for location management and rule-base system trigged the rules to perform the techniques. The system stores the result (techniques for location management) in fact-base system for future use. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed techniques been analyzed, and it observed that the proposed system has 45-50% improvement in performance over the current location management techniques. Here, we are taking the performance parameters such as signaling cost, database update cost, overhead measurement, mobility management cost.

Preeclampsia is a multifactorial cardiovascular disorder diagnosed after 20 weeks of gestation that is the leading cause of death for both mothers and babies in pregnancy. The pathophysiology remains poorly understood due to variability and unpredictability of disease manifestation when studied in animal models. After preeclampsia, both mothers and offspring have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) including myocardial infarction or heart attack and heart failure (HF). Myocardial infarction is an acute myocardial damage that can be treated through reperfusion, however, that therapeutic approach leads to ischemic/reperfusion injury (IRI) often leading to HF. In this review, we compared the current in vivo, in vitro and ex vivo model systems used to study preeclampsia, IRI and HF. Future studies aiming at evaluating CVD in preeclampsia patients could benefit from novel models that better mimic the complex scenario described in this article.

This paper investigates the energy dissipation level of a nonlinear vehicle suspension system. The suspension system is modelled as a mass-spring-damper system, which is designed using the output frequency response function (OFRF) method. This method enables the derivation of an explicit relationship, between the system output spectrum (or Performance metric) and the system nonlinear parameters of interest. The OFRF polynomial, of the energy dissipation level, was derived in terms of the nonlinear parameters of interest. The results obtained show that the OFRF model, of the energy dissipation level, could be used to estimate the amount of heat dissipated, for a set of design parameters. This has potentials of providing some insights, in the design of vibration-based energy harvesters, as some of the wasted heat energy could be converted to electrical energy.

The intestinal microbiota, comprised of bacteria, archaea, and phages, inhabits the gastrointestinal tract of the organism. Male reproductive sterility is currently a prominent topic in medical research. Increasing research suggests that gut microbiota dysbiosis can result in various reproductive health problems. This article specifically investigates the impact of gut microbiota dysbiosis on male reproductive infertility development. Gut microbiota imbalances can disrupt the immune system and immune cell metabolism, affecting testicular growth and sperm production. This dysfunction can compromise the levels of hormones produced and secreted by the endocrine glands, affecting male reproductive health. Furthermore, imbalance of the gut microbiota can disrupt the gut-brain-reproductive axis, resulting in male reproductive infertility. This article will explore how the imbalance of the gut microbiota impacts male reproductive infertility through immune regulation, endocrine regulation, and interactions of the gut-brain-reproductive axis, concluding with recommendations for prevention and treatment.

As marine traffic is contributing to pollution and mostly have predictable route with repetitive load profiles, to reduce their impact on environment, hybrid system with proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC-s) and battery pack, is promising replacement. For this purpose, the numerical model of repowered existing vessel that have two diesel engines with 300 kWe is developed. The goal of this paper is to develop numerical model which analyzes and determine equivalent hybrid ship propulsion system for known traveling route. The developed numerical model consists of an interconnected system with PEMFC stack and battery pack as power sources. Numerical model is developed and optimized to meet minimal required power demand for successful route demand, which has variable loads and daily sails six-time same voyage- in total 54 nautical miles. The results have shown that equivalent hybrid power system consists of 300 kWe PEMFC stack and battery pack with 424 kWh battery and state of charge varying between 20 and 87%. To power this new hybrid power system, hydrogen tank of 7200 l holding 284.7 kg at pressure of 700 bar is needed, compared to previous system that spend 1524 kg of diesel and generate 4886 kg of CO2.

This work presents a new algorithm to resolve the problem of distribution network reconfiguration using the Tabu Search metaheuristic and voltage drop. The proposed method presents a different way to obtain the initial solution using the voltage drop, as well as a new way to generate a neighborhood of candidate solutions, based on randomness and the voltage drop, to perform a smooth and steady descent execution of the algorithm. The proposed algorithm has the main objective to reduce the active power losses in distribution networks, but it also achieves an refinement in the voltage profile. The proposed method was tested in two distribution systems, the 33-Bus and 94-Bus systems, commonly found and tested in the literature. The results of the tests show that the proposed method presents a low computational cost, achieves good solutions, and is better than the other methods found in the literature.
