A series of novel chiral nonmetallocene pincer-type rare earth metal dialkyl complexes bearing the chiral monoanionic tridentate C2-symmetric 1,3-bis(oxazolinymethylidene)isoindoline (BOXMI) ligand (BOXMI)Ln(CH2SiMe3)2 1-3 (1, Ln = Sc, yield = 57%; 2, Ln = Lu, yield = 55%; 3, Ln = Y, yield = 62%) have been prepared in moderate yields via the acid-base reaction between the BOXMI ligand and rare earth metal tri(trimethylsilylmethyl) complexes. The X-ray diffractions show that both of the complexes 1 and 2 contain one Boxmi ligand and two trimethylsilylmethyl ligands, adopting a distorted-trigonal-bipyramidal configuration. In the presence of cocatalyst such as borate and AlR3, these complexes 1-3 exhibit high activities up to 6.8 × 104 (g of polymer)/(molLn h) and high cis-1,4-selectivities up to 97%) in the polymerization of isoprene in toluene, yielding the cis-1,4-polyisoprenes with high molecular weights (Mn up to 710000 g/mol) and bimodal molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 2.0-4.5).

The reactions of the angular ligand 4,4’-oxybis(N-(pyridin-3-yl)benzamide (L1) and 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2NDC) with divalent metal salts yielded three distinct coordination polymers (CPs): {[Zn2(L1)(1,4-NDC)2]MeOH}n, 1, {[Cu(L1)(1,4-NDC)(H2O)]3H2O}n, 2, and {[Cd(L1)(1,4-NDC)]2H2O}n, 3. Complex 1 features a 2-fold interpenetrated 3D framework with the (412.63)-pcu topology, while complex 2 reveals a 1D triple-strained helical chain, and complex 3 displays a 3-fold interpenetrated 3D framework with (66)-dia topology. Additionally, the reactions of the flexible ligand N‚N’-bis(3-methylpyridyl)adipoamide (L2) afforded {[Co4(L2)0.5(1,4-NDC)3(H2O)3(µ3-OH)2]·EtOH·2H2O}n, 4, {[Zn2(L2)(1,4-NDC)2]·2CH3OH}n, 5, and [Cd(L2)(adipic)(H2O)]n (H2adipic = adipic acid), 6, exhibiting a self-catenated 3D framework with the (420.68)-8T32 topology, a 2D layer with the (413·62)-(4,4)IIb topology, and a 2D layer with the (44·62)-sql topology, respectively. The structural diversity observed in complexes 1 - 6 highlights the pivotal influence of the metal center on the degree of entanglement in CPs within mixed-ligand systems. The thermal stability and luminescent properties of complexes 1 - 3, 4, and 6 are also discussed.

A simple procedure to obtain 1,5-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles, using the catalytic system erbium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate, 1-methyl pyridinium trifluoromethanesulfonate and water is described. The reaction proceeds through an eliminative azide–olefin cycloaddition (EAOC) offering a highly regioselective approach and good yields (81–94%). The advantages of this method include simple operations of work-up and the ability of the catalytic system to be re-used five times without an evident loss in yield.

Commiphora molmol myrrh resin extracts, which have different physical properties such as polarity and dielectric constant, were prepared by immersion in extraction solvents (hot water, DMSO, hexane, ethanol, and methanol). Methanolic myrrh resin extracts showed broad antibacterial activity against isolated airborne bacteria. Furanoeudesma-1,3-diene and curzerene, as the main terpenoids in the methanolic myrrh resin extract, were analyzed using GC-MS, and the methanolic myrrh resin extracts were found to have antiviral activity (81.2% viral RNA inhibition) against H1N1 influenza virus. Biochars (wood powder-and rice husk-derived) coated with myrrh resin extracts also showed antiviral activity (22.6% and 24.3% viral RNA inhibition), due to the adsorption of terpenoids onto biochar. Myrrh resin extract using methanol as the extraction solvent is a promising agent with antibacterial and antiviral efficacy, and it can be utilized as a novel material via adsorption onto biochar for air filtration processes, cosmetics, fertilizers, drug delivery, and corrosion inhibition.

A general approach to substituted pyrrolidines via [3 + 2] 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between nonstabilized azomethine ylides and cyanosulfones was developed. The efficient method provides a series of substituted pyrrolidines bearing a quaternary carbon center in high yields (up to 98%) excellent diastereoselectivities (up to >25:1 dr) under ambient reaction conditions.

The purpose of our work was the search for safe and effective biologically active substances of cardiotropic action among 1,3- thiazole derivatives. New derivatives of 1-[(2Z)-2-[R-imin]-4-methyl-3-R¹-2,3-dihydro-1,3-thiazole-5-yl]ethan-1-one and ethyl-(2Z)-2-[R-imin]-4-methyl-3-R¹-2,3-dihydro-1,3-thiazole-5-carboxylate were synthesized by the Hantzsch reaction. The structure of the compounds obtained was confirmed by ¹H NMR spectroscopy and by the elemental analysis. The pharmacological screening showed that the obtained substances possess cardiotropic activity. The cardiotropic properties of the new 1,3-thiazole derivatives were studied on the isolated rings of the thoracic aorta of laboratory rats. A prospective substance 1-[(2Z)-2-[(4-methoxyphenyl)imin]-4-methyl-3-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl) -2,3-dihydro-1,3-thiazol-5-yl]ethan-1-one hydrochloride, which exhibits cardiotropic activity exceeding the activity of L-carnitine and meldonia has been revealed during pharmacological researches of the substances obtained.

Reactive energetic plasticizers (REPs) coupled with hydroxy-telechelic poly(glycidyl azide-co-tetrahydrofuran) (PGT)-based energetic polyurethane (PU) binders for use in solid propellants and plastic-bonded explosives (PBXs) were investigated. The generation of gem-dinitro REPs along with a terminal alkyne stemmed from a series of finely designed approaches to not only satisfy the common demands as conventional energetic plasticizers but prevent the migration of plasticizers. The miscibility and rheological behavior of a binary mixture of PGT/REP with various REP fractions were quantitatively determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheometer, respectively, highlighting the promising performance of REPs in the formulation process. The kinetics on the distinct reactivity of propargyl vs. 3-butynyl species of REPs towards the azide group of the PGT prepolymer in terms of Cu-free azide-alkyne 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (1,3-DPCA) was studied by monitoring 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and analyzing the activation energies (Ea) obtained using DSC. The thermal stability of the finally cured energetic binders with the incorporation of REPs indicated that the thermal stability of the REP/PGT-based PUs was maintained independently of the REP content. The tensile strength and modulus of the PUs increased with increasing the REP content. In addition, the energetic performance and sensitivity of REP and REP triazole species was predicted.

The exploitation of the metallacarboranes’ potential in various fields of research and practical ap-plications requires the availability of convenient and versatile methods for their functionalization with various functional moieties and/or linkers of different types and lengths. Herein we report a study on cobalt bis(1,2-dicarbollide) functionalization at 8,8’-boron atoms with different het-ero-bifunctional moieties containing protected hydroxyl function allowing further modification after deprotection. Moreover, an approach to the synthesis of three and four functionalized metallacarboranes, at boron and carbon atoms simultaneously, via additional functionalization at carbon to obtain derivatives carrying three or four rationally oriented and distinct reactive surfaces, is described

After a long limbo, RNA has gained its credibility as a druggable target, fully earning its de-served role in the next-generation area of pharmaceutical R&D. We have recently probed the Trans-Activation Response element (TAR), a RNA stem–bulge–loop domain of the HIV-1 genome with bis-3-chloropiperidines (B-CePs), and revealed the compounds unique behavior in stabiliz-ing TAR structure, thus impairing in vitro the chaperone activity of the HIV-1 nucleocapsid (NC) protein. Seeking to elucidate the determinants of B-CePs inhibition, we have further characterized here their effects on the target TAR and its NC recognition, while developing quantitative analyti-cal approaches for the study of multicomponent RNA-based interactions.

Listeria monocytogenes is an emerging pathogen responsible for the serious foodborne disease, listeriosis. The commensal gut microbiota is the first line of defense against pathogen internalization. The gut microbiome can be modified by prebiotic substrates, which are frequently added to food products and dietary supplements. Prebiotics should selectively support the growth of beneficial microbes and thus improve host health. Nevertheless, little is known about their effect on the growth of L. monocytogenes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth ability of four L. monocytogenes strains, representing the most common serotypes, on prebiotic oligosaccharides (beta-(1,3)-D-glucan, inulin, fructooligosaccharides, galactooligosaccharides, lactulose, raffinose, stachyose, and 2´-fucosyllactose and a mixture of human milk oligosaccharides) as a sole carbon source. The results showed that only beta-(1,3)-D-glucan was metabolized by L. monocytogenes. Therefore, the safety of beta-(1,3)-D-glucan with respect to listeriosis development should be further studied.

Naphtho[1,8-de][1,2]oxazin-4-ol and its acyl or benzyl derivatives ring open to various 2,8-dihydroxy-1-naphthonitriles, that undergo methylation, reduction, demethylation and debenzylation reactions, to afford the target compound (E)-2-hydroxy-8-methoxy-1-naphthaldehyde. The best overall yield of the latter was 28.7%. This compound was converted to its corresponding (E)-2-hydroxy-8-methoxy-1-naphthaldehyde ox-ime, which was oxidatively o-cyclized with phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA) to 9-methoxynaphtho[1,2-d]isoxazole 2-oxide. The latter in deuterated DMSO, at room temperature, rearranged to its isomer to 2-hydroxy-8-methoxy(naphthalen-1-yl)nitrile oxide. The isomeriza-tion was detected by a time-course plot 1H NMR spectroscopy and further identified from its13C NMR and HRMS spectra. The nitrile oxide was stable in (non)deuterated DMSO for at least 18 hours. A 3,4-bis(2-hydroxy-8-methoxynaphthalen-1-yl)-1,2,5-oxadiazole 2-oxide as a dimeriza-tion product or an isocyanate as a rearrangement isomer were both ruled out, the former by the absence of the relevant molecular ion in its HRMS spectrum while the latter by 1,3-dipolar cy-cloaddition reactions with various dipolarophiles that gave substituted isoxazoles, thus con-firming the nitrile oxide structure.

The ability of some bacteria to perform Extracellular Electron Transfer (EET) has been explored in bioelectrochemical systems (BES) to obtain energy or chemicals from pure substances or residual substrates. Here, a new pyoverdine-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain was isolated from a MFC biofilm oxidizing glycerol, a by-product of biodiesel production. Strain EL14 was investigated to assess its electrogenic ability and products. In an open circuit system (fermentation system) EL14 was able to consume glycerol and produce 1,3-propanediol, an unusual product from glycerol oxidation in P. aeruginosa. The microbial fuel cell (MFC), EL14 reached a current density of 82.4 mA m-2, during the first feeding cycle, then drops sharply as the biofilm falls off. Cyclic voltammetry suggests electron transfer to the anode occurrs indirectly, i.e., through a redox substance, with redox peaks at 0.22 and -0.45 V (vs Ag/AgCl) and directly probably by membrane redox-proteins with redox peak at 0.05 V (vs Ag/AgCl). EL14 produced added-value bioproducts, acetic and butyric acids, as well as 1,3 propanediol, in both fermentative and anodic conditions. However, the yield of 1,3-PDO from glycerol was enhanced from 0.57 to 0.89 (mol of 1,3-PDO mol-1 of glycerol) under MFC conditions compared with the fermentation. This result was unexpected since successful 1,3-PDO production is not usually associated with the P. aeruginosa glycerol metabolism. By comparing EL14 genomic sequences related to the 1,3-PDO biosynthesis with reference P. aeruginosa strains, we observed that strain EL14 has three copies of dhaT gene (1,3-propanediol dehydrogenase a different arrangement compared to other Pseudomonas isolates). Thus, this work functionally characterizes a bacterium never before associated to 1,3-PDO biosynthesis, indicating its potential for converting a by-product of the biodiesel industry into an emerging chemical product.

A series of derivatives of trans-3-(2,4,6-trimethoxy phenyl)-4,5-dihydro isoxazolo-4,5-bis(aroylcarbohydrazide) and of trans-3-(2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)4,5-dihydroisoxazolo-4,5-bis[carbonyl-(4’phenyl)thiosemi- carbazide (9) were synthesized from trans-3-(2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)-4,5-dihydro-4,5-bis(hydrazenocarbonyl) Isoxazole (8). The structures of the Compounds were elucidated by elemental and spectral (IR, NMR, and MS) analysis. The compound 9 show activity against some bacterial species. Whereas, no activity was observed for compounds 10a, 10b and 10c against all bacterial species. The antioxidant activity of new compounds has been screened. Compound 9 showed higher antioxidant activity using the DPPH and ATBS method.

The carbon-carbon cross-coupling of phenyl s-tetrazine (Tz) units at their ortho-phenyl positions allows to form constrained bis(tetrazines) with original tweezer structures. In these compounds, the face-to-face positioning of the central tetrazine cores is endorsed by pi-staking of the electron-poor nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic moieties. The resulting tetra-aromatic structure can be used as a weak coordinating ligand with cationic silver. This coordination generates a set of bis(tetrazine)‐silver(I) coordination complexes tolerating a large variety of counter anions of various geometries, namely, PF6–, BF4–, SbF6–, ClO4–, NTf2–, OTf2–. These compounds were characterized in the solid-state by single crystal XRD and reflectance spectra, and in solution by 1H NMR, mass spectrometry, electroanalysis and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) structure of complexes {[Ag(3)][PF6]}∞ (4) and {[Ag(3)][SbF6]∞ (6), where 3 is 3,3'-[(1,1'-biphenyl)-2,2'-diyl]-6,6'-bis[phenyl]-1,2,4,5-tetrazine, revealed the formation of 1D polymeric chains, characterized by an evolution to a large opening of the original tweezer and a coordination of silver(I) via two chelating nitrogen atom and some C=C pi-interactions. Electrochemical and UV spectroscopic properties of the original tweezer and of the corresponding silver complex are reported and compared. 1H NMR titrations with AgNTf2 allowed to determine the stoichiometry, and apparent stability of two solution species, namely [Ag(3)]+ and [Ag(3)2]2+, that formed in CDCl3/CD3OD 2:1 v/v mixtures.

4-(2-Methyloxazol-4-yl)benzenesulfonamide was synthesized by the reaction of 4-(2-bromoacetyl)benzenesulfonamide with an excess of acetamide. The obtained compound was evaluated as a potential inhibitor of human monoamine oxidase (MAO) A and B and was found to inhibit these enzymes with IC50 values of 3.47 μM for MAO-B and 43.3 μM for MAO-A. Thus, the new selective MAO-B inhibitor was identified, which may be used as the lead compound for development anti-Parkinson’s disease agents.

1,3 Dipolar cycloaddition of imidazolidine derivatives containing exocyclic double bonds is a convenient method of creating spiro-conjugated molecules with the promising anticancer active. In this work, the derivatives of parabanic acid (2-thioxoimidazolidine-4,5-diones and 5-aryliminoimidazolidine-2,4-diones) were firstly investigated as dipolarophiles in the reactions with nitrile imines. The generation of nitrile imines was carried out either by the addition of tertiary amine to hydrazonoyl chlorides «drop by drop» or using recently proposed diffusion mixing technique, which led to ~5-15% increasing of target compounds yields. It was found that the addition of nitrile imines to C=S or C=N exocyclic double bonds led to 1,2,4-thiazolines or triazolines and occurred regioselectively in accordance to the ratio of FMO coefficients of reactants. The yield of the resulting spiro-compound depended on the presence of alkyl substituents in nitrile imine structure and was significantly decreases at the reactions with imines with strong electron donor or electron-withdrawing groups. Some of the obtained compounds showed reasonable in vitro cytotoxicity. IC50 values were calculated for HCT116 (colon cancer) cells using the MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) test.

Influenza is an acute respiratory illness caused by influenza virus infection, which is managed using vaccines and antiviral drugs. Recently, the antiviral effects of plants and foods have gained attention. This review summarizes the therapeutic properties of Euglena against influenza from a functional food viewpoint. While it has been reported that Euglena contributes to suppressing blood sugar levels and ameliorates symptoms caused by stress by acting on the autonomic nervous system, the immunostimulatory and antiviral activities of Euglena have also been reported. In this review, I focused on the immunostimulation of antiviral activity via the intestinal environment and the suppression of viral replication in infected cells. The functions of specific components of Euglena, which also serve as a source of a wide range of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids, and β-1,3-glucan (paramylon), are also reviewed. Euglena has animal and plant properties and natural compounds with a wide range of functions, providing crucial information for improved antiviral strategies.

The present work demonstrates the optimization of the ligand structure in the series of bis-phosphine oxide and carbamoylphosphine oxide representatives for efficient coordination of Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions with the formation of the complexes exhibiting high Tb3+- and Eu3+-centered luminescence. The analysis of the stoichiometry and structure of the lanthanide complexes obtained by XRD method reveals the great impact of the bridging group nature between two phosphine oxide moieties on the coordination mode of the ligands with Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions. The bridging imido-group facilitates the deprotonation of imido-bisphosphine oxide ligand followed by the formation of tris-complexes. The spectral and PXRD analysis of the separated colloids indicates that the high stability of the tris-complexes provides their safe conversion into polystyrenesulfonate-stabilized colloids under the solvent exchange method. The red Eu3+-centered luminescence of the tris-complex exhibits the same specificity in the solutions and the colloids. The pronounced luminescent response on the antibiotics ceftriaxone allows to sense the latter in aqueous solutions with the LOD value equal to 0.974 M.

This study was designed to examine the relationships among the impulsivity construct as a personality trait, the dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), and testosterone in a sample of 120 healthy middle-aged males. (Mage = 44.39; SD = 12.88). The sum of the three BIS-11 scales, the SR and the five UPPS-P scales correlated with DHEA-S .23 (p < .006) and testosterone .19 (p < .04), controlling for age. Partial correlations showed that DHEA-S is significantly related to Motor impulsivity (.24; p < .008), Sensitivity to Reward (.29; p < .002) and Lack of premeditation (.26; p < .05) and, to a lesser extent, Sensation Seeking (.19; p < .04) and Positive Urgency (.19; p < .04). Testosterone correlated with Attention impulsivity (.18; p < .04), Sensation Seeking (.18; p < .04), and Positive Urgency (.22; p < .01). Sensitivity to Reward, Negative Urgency and Positive Urgency were significant predictors of DHEA-S (R2 = .28), and Positive Urgency for testosterone (R2 = .09). Non-parametric LOESS graphical analysis for local regression allowed us to visualize the non-linear relationships between the impulsivity scales with the two androgens, including non-significant trends. We discuss the implications of these results for biological impulsive personality traits, the limitations of our analyses, and the possible development of future research.

The three-component reaction of enaminones, benzaldehyde and hydrazine-HCl or four-component reaction of enaminones, benzaldehyde, hydrazine–HCl and ethyl cyanoacetate in water in the presence of catalytic amount of ammonium acetate has been devised as a straightforward , sustainable approach for the synthesis of 1-H-pyrazole, N-aminopyridine and pyrazol[3,4-b]pyridine derivatives . The key benefits of this approach is simple experimental procedure associated with cost effective and environmentally friendly techniques.

The reaction mechanisms of C-S borylation of aryl sulfides catalyzed by the 1,4-benzoquinone (BQ), were investigated by employing M06-2X-D3/ma-def2SVP method and basis set. In this study, the SMD model was taken to simulate the solvent effect of 1,4-dioxane. Also, TD-DFT calculations of BQ and methyl(p-tolyl)sulfane were performed in SMD solvent model. The computational results indicated that BQ and methyl(p-tolyl)sulfane, serving as a photo-catalyst, would be excited under blue LED of 450 nm, aligning well with experimental observations. Additionally, the role of 3O2 was investigated, revealing that it could be activated to 1O2 from the released energy of 1[BQ+methyl(p-tolyl)sulfane]* or 3[BQ+ methyl(p-tolyl)sulfane]*→BQ+ methyl(p-tolyl)sulfane process. Then 1O2, bis(pinacolato)diboron, and methyl(p-tolyl)sulfane would through a series of reactions to yield the final product P. The Gibbs free energy surface show that path a2-2 is optimal and this path has less steps and lower energy barrier. The electron spin density isosurface graphs were employed to analyze structures and elucidate the single electron distribution. These computational results offer valuable insights into the studied interactions and related processes and shed light on the mechanisms governing C–S borylation from aryl sulfides and b2pin2 catalyzed by BQ and methyl(p-tolyl)sulfane.

In this work, an attempt is made to the theoretically substantiate the experimentally known facts of the influence of halogen concentration on the catalytic properties of the neodymium-based Ziegler–Natta system. Based on the structural and thermochemical data obtained using modern methods of quantum chemistry, the process of the 1,3-butadiene cis-1,4-polymerization under the model active centers of the neodymium Ziegler-Natta catalysts with different content of chloride ions was studied. Results are presented that explain the increase in the cis-stereospecificity and activity of the polymerization system with an increase in the content of the chloride ions in the neodymium catalytic system. There were established the reasons for the decrease in the concentration of active centers relative to the introduced Nd(III) with an excess of chloride ions and the occurrence of the anti-syn isomerization as a source of the formation of the trans-1,4-structures in the cis-1,4-polybutadiene.

There are various approaches to managing polyethylene terephthalate waste, including methods for recycling PET. However, at present, only the cleanest wastes that can already be efficiently recycled using known methods are considered in the scientific literature. The study aims to look at other forms of polyethylene terephthalate waste that pose a challenge: low quality PET flakes, polyester tire cord, PET dust and prepolymer waste. The waste was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, viscosimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, laser diffraction and sieve analysis. The findings describe the composition and properties of various forms of polyethylene terephthalate waste. Low quality PET flake waste and polyethylene terephthalate dust have been shown to be suitable for all chemical recycling methods. When recycling waste polyester tire cord, it is difficult to completely separate the rubber, so its presence in the final product must be taken into account. The most promising way to process a prepolymer is its depolymerization by hydrolysis, alcoholysis or glycolysis to produce monomers for the synthesis of PET, similar in properties to the primary one.

A series of alpha,omega-bis(o-methoxyphenyl)arenes were prepared through Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions of dibromoarenes with o-methoxyphenyl boronic acid. P2O5-CH3SO3H-mediated direct polycondensation of alpha,omega-bis(o-methoxyphenyl)arenes with trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid proceeded regioselectively to afford 1,4-cyclohexanediyl-containing aromatic polyketones. The resulting aromatic polyketones have high Tg and excellent solubility in typical organic solvents. In addition, the polyketone films fabricated by solution casting method are more colorless and transparent than those without cyclohexanediyl units.

A study on the selection of hyperelastic constitutive model for polymeric materials is performed using a hybrid experimental-computational approach. Bis-GMA polymer is used as a case study of hyperelastic material to describe the polymer characteristics by determining its Poisson’s ratio and its valid range of the hyperelastic stress-strain curves. These two parameters are then used to determine the hyperelastic constitutive model by using the hybrid approach. Several uniaxial compression tests along with their finite element simulations are implemented in a systematic way, to identify the polymer behavior under the compressive loading conditions. Nano-indentation experiments are conducted to verify the hyperelastic behavior of the polymer. The experimental and computational evidences confirm that the Poisson’s ratio of Bis-GMA is 0.40 and the appropriate hyperelastic constitutive model for this polymer is of a second order polynomial. It is shown that, the results can be used to determine the true stress-strain curve of hyperelastic materials.

Here we report a new synthetic protocol based on Microwave- Assisted Synthesis (MAS) for the preparation in higher yields of zinc and copper MOFs based on different bis(pyrazolyl)-tagged ligands ([M(BPZ)]n where M = Zn(II), Cu(II), H2BPZ = 4,4′-bipyrazole, [M(BPZ-NH2)]n where M = Zn(II), Cu(II); H2BPZ-NH2 = 3-amino-4,4’-bipyrazole, and [Mx(Me4BPZPh)] where M = Zn(II), x = 1; Cu(II), x = 2; H2Me4BPZPh = bis-4′-(3′,5′-dimethyl)- pyrazolylbenzene) and a detailed study of their antibacterial activity, tested against Gram-negative (E. coli) and Gram-positive (S. aureus) bacteria, as representative agents of infections. The results show that all MOFs exert a broad-spectrum activity and strong efficiency in bacterial growth inhibition, with a mechanism of action based on surface contact of MOFs particles with bacterial cells through the so-called “chelation effect” and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, without a significant release of Zn(II) and Cu(II) ions. In addition, morphological changes were elucidated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and bacterial cell damage was further confirmed by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) test.

The combination of chemical cross-linking and mass spectrometry is currently a progressive technology for deriving structural information of proteins and protein complexes. In addition, chemical cross-linking is a powerful tool for stabilizing macromolecular complexes for single particle cryo-electron microscopy. Broad pallets of cross-linking chemistry, currently available for the majority of cross-linking experiments, still rely on the amine-reactive N-hydroxysuccinimide esters targeting mainly N-termini and lysine side chains. These cross-linkers are divided into two groups: water soluble and water insoluble; and research teams prefer one or another speculating on the benefits of their choice. However, the effect of cross-linker polarity on the outcome of cross-linking reaction has never been studied. Herein, we use both polar (bis(sulfosuccinimidyl) glutarate) and non-polar (disuccinimidyl glutarate) cross-linkers and systematically investigated the impact of cross-linker hydrophobicity on resulting distance constraints, using bovine serum albumin as a model protein.

Li⁺-conducting polyethylene oxide-based membranes, incorporating the N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide, are as electrolyte separators for all-solid-state lithium polymer batteries operating at medium-high temperatures. The incorporation of the ionic liquid remarkably improves the thermal, ion-transport and interfacial properties of the polymer electrolyte, which, in combination with the wide electrochemical stability even at medium-high temperatures, allow high current rates without any appreciable lithium anode degradation. Battery tests carried out at 80 °C have shown excellent cycling performance and capacity retention even at high rates, never tackled by ionic liquid-free polymer electrolytes. No dendrite growth onto the lithium metal anode was observed.

Overhydration (OH) is a prevalent medical problem occuring in patients with kidney failure, but a specific marker has still not been found. Currently, clinicians employ techniques such as bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS), ultrasound (US) markers of fluid overload or markers of heart and kidney function such as NT-pro-BNP, GFR or creatinine levels. New serum markers, including but not limited to Ca-125, Galectin-3 (Gal-3), Adrenomedullin (AMD) and Urocortin-2 (UCN-2), are presently under research, displaying promising results. The necessity to ascertain a more precise marker of overhydration is urgent mainly because physical examination is exceptionally imprecise. Signs and symptoms of fluid overload, like edema or gradual increase of body mass, are not always present, notably in patients with chronic kidney disease. This review paper summarizes actual knowledge of a patient's hydration status estimation, focusing specifically on kidney diseases.

A series of derivatives, involving two dithienylethene (DTE), groups, connected by several molecular linkers (bis(ethylene-1,2-dithiolato)Ni- (NiBDT), naphthalene, quasilinear oligothiophene chains) are investigated with the aid of computational quantum chemistry methods. This involves the computation of the second- and third-order nonlinear optical properties, i.e. molecular hyperpolarizabilities of the designed/selected derivatives. These properties can be efficiently controlled by DTE switches, in connection with light of appropriate frequency. We found that NiBDT, as a linker, is associated with a greater contrast, in comparison to naphthalene, between the first and second hyperpolarizabilities of the “open-open” and the “closed-closed” isomers. This is explained by invoking the low lying excited states of NiBDT. It has been found that the second hyperpolarizability can be used as an index, which follows the structural changes induced by photochromism. The two-photon absorption, which is related to the imaginary part of second hyperpolarizability, has also been investigated for the S0S1 transition. Furthermore, the intramolecular excited-state energy transfer (EET) is studied as well as the overlap between the absorption and emission spectra of the donor and acceptor groups of the molecules. The electronic coupling, VDA, between the donor and acceptor fragments, as well as the emission spectrum of the donor and the absorption spectrum of the acceptor have been computed, assuming a Förster type transfer mechanism. EET is a critical factor governing the photochromism. Two methods were used to compute VDA, one based on linear response and one based on the distributed multipole analysis (DMA); both techniques give very similar results for the dominating Coulomb contribution. For NiBDT as the linker a low VDA value has been computed. We found that VDA is affected by the molecular geometry. Our results clearly show that the linker strongly influences the communication between the open-closed DTE groups and thus, photochromism. The present computations show that full photochromism is attained in derivatives where two DTE groups are linked by a tetrathiophene chain, in agreement with experiment. The sensitivity of molecular linear and nonlinear optical properties upon photochromism can assist with the identification of the molecular isomers.

Two novel core-shell composites SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb, SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb-phen with SiO2 as the core and terbium organic complex as the shell, were successfully synthesized. The terbium ion was coordinated with organic ligand forming terbium organic complex in the shell layer. The bi-functional organosilane ((HOOC)2C6H2(CONH(CH2)3Si(OCH2CH3)3)2 (abbreviated as PMDA-Si) was used as the first ligand and phen as the second ligand. Furthermore, the silica-modified SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb@SiO2, SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb-phen@SiO2 core-shell-shell composites were also synthesized by sol–gel chemical route. An amorphous silica shell was coated around the SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb and SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb-phen core-shell composites. The core-shell and core-shell-shell composites both exhibited excellent luminescence in solid state. The luminescence of core-shell-shell composites was stronger than that of core-shell composites. Meanwhile, an improved luminescence stability property for the core-shell-shell composites was found in the aqueous solution. The core-shell-shell composites exhibited bright luminescence, high stability, long lifetime, and good solubility, which may present potential applications in the field of bio-medical.

The compound, C27H23N3 (1), crystallizes in the triclinic system of the P-1 space group. The unit cell comprises a dimer of 1, in which the monomers are linked by two complementary hydrogen bonds between N1 and H1-C1 of another molecule. The dimers form chains along the a-axis through intermolecular interactions between the N2 acceptor atoms and C17 donors from molecules in the nearest neighbouring dimer. These interactions form extended sheets of the dimers of 1, along the ab plane. The quinolinylmeth-2-yl groups of 1 lie in almost orthogonal planes and their N1/2(q) donor atoms being away from the apical amino N3 atom.

Photophysical properties of a series of bis(arylydene)cycloalkanone dyes with various donor substituentns are studied by quantum chemistry. Their capacity for luminescence and nonradiative relaxation through trans-cis isomerization is related to their structure, in particular, to the donor capacity of the substituents and the degree of conjugation due to the central cycloalkanone moiety. It is shown that cyclohexanone central moiety introduces distortions and disrupts the conjugation, thus leading to a nonmonotonic change in their properties. The increasing donor capacity of the substituents causes increase in the HOMO energy (raise of the oxidation potential) and decrease in the HOMO-LUMO gap, which results in the red shift of the absorption spectra. The ability of the excited dye to relax through fluorescence or through trans-cis isomerization is governed by the height of the barrier between the Franck–Condon and S1-S0 conical intersection regions on the potential energy surface of the lowest π-π* excited state. This barrier also correlates with the donor capacity of the substituents and the degree of conjugation between the central and donor moieties. The calculated fluorescence and trans-cis isomerization rates are in good agreement with the observed fluorescence quantum yields.

A series of novel substituted isoxazolidine derivatives was synthesized through 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions of α-aryl-N-methyl nitrones with various ethylene moieties, resulting in the formation of isoxazolidine derivatives. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized using spectroscopic methods. The [3+2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions of α-aryl-N-methyl nitrones with diverse ethylene substituents were computed employing Density Functional Theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6–31G(d) level, upgrading bond parameters. An investigation of the electron localization function (ELF) unveiled the zwitterionic nature of α-aryl-N-methyl nitrones, devoid of pseudoradical or carbenoid centers. Utilization of CDFT indices enabled the prediction of global electronic flux from the strongly nucleophilic α-aryl-N-methyl nitrones to the varied electrophilic ethylene functionalities. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations were conducted on the isoxazolidine derivatives against the EGFR receptor (PDB: 4ZAU). In silico assessment of the synthesized isoxazolidines involved molecular docking, wherein the compound with the highest docking score was subjected to molecular dynamics simulations. Compound 11a, out of the thirty isoxazolidine derivatives, displayed the most substantial binding energy, yielding a g score of -6.57 kcal/mol. These observations highlighted the functional role of amide NH2 and NO2 in the binding process with the target protein, influencing its activity. Furthermore, prediction of ADME drug-likeness properties was performed to identify a suitable candidate.

Looking for effective synthetic methods for 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]quinolines preparation, we came across a procedure where in a three component reaction catalyzed by L-proline, 4-aryl-4,9-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]quinolines are formed. These compounds can be easily oxidized to a fully aromatic system, which gave hope for a synthetic method that could replace e.g. Friedländer condensation, often used for this purpose, although severely limited by the availability of suitable substrates. However, after careful repetition of the procedures described in the publication, it turned out that the compounds described therein do not form at all. The actual compounds turned out to be 4,4-(phenylmethylene)-bis-(3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazol-5-oles). 4-Aryl-4,9-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]quinolines were prepared by another method and used as standards to compare the products formed in the original procedure.

In this work, the properties of a composition based on synthetic rubber ethylene-propylene ter-polymer and polymers with functional groups of the mixture are studied. Low efficiency of some compositions based on ethylene and propylene copolymer limits their use in the production of tires and rubber products. Therefore, we conducted a study to improve the disadvantages of SREPT-60 using butyl rubber + choro polyisoprene + butadiene-nitrile + butadiene styrene rubber and adding a plasticizer to the composition = α, methacrylate-(bis-diethylene glycol phthalate) -(btegf-9) The data obtained showed that a number of its indicators of rubber based on them were improved. Tear resistance, resistance to repeated stretching increased, adhesion of the composition to metal, chemical resistance increased, the degree of swelling in benzene and gasoline-benzene mixture decreased. Compositions based on the mixture SREPT-60 using butyl rubber + choro polyisoprene + butadiene-nitrile + butadiene styrene rubber and adding a plasticizer to the composition = α, methacrylate-(bis-diethylene glycol phthalate) -(btegf-9) +Dioctyl phthalate: (70:20:10) have high resistance to swelling in an aggressive environment (Benzene, gasoline, alcohol, acid, oil, etc.) mixture.
