This research paper presents a detailed analysis of a Lightweight Block Cipher’s power consumption and security features (LWBC), specifically designed for IoT applications. To accurately measure energy consumption during the execution of the LWBC algorithm, we utilised the Qoitech Otii Arc, a specialised tool for optimising energy usage. Our experimental setup involved using the Otii Arc as a power source for an Arduino NodeMCU V3, running the LWBC security algorithm. Our methodology focused on energy consumption analysis using the shunt resistor technique. Our findings reveal that the LWBC is highly efficient and provides an effective solution for energy-limited IoT devices. We also conducted a comparative analysis of the proposed cipher against established LWBCs, which demonstrated its superior performance in terms of energy consumption per bit. The proposed LWBC was evaluated based on various key dimensions such as power efficiency, key and block size, rounds, cipher architecture, gate area, ROM, latency, and throughput. The results of our analysis indicate that the proposed LWBC is a promising cryptographic solution for energy-conscious and resource-limited IoT applications.

The issue of organizing efficient interaction between V2X system elements has become increasingly critical in recent years. Utilizing vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology enables achieving the necessary balance of safety, reducing system load, and ensuring a high degree of vehicle automation. This study aims to develop a simulation system for V2X applications in various element placement configurations and conduct a numerical analysis of several V2X system interaction schemes. The research analyzes various methods, including clustering, edge computing, and fog computing, aimed at minimizing system losses. The results demonstrate that each proposed model can be effectively implemented on mobile nodes. Results also provide insights into the average expected request processing times, thereby enhancing V2X system organization. The authors propose a comprehensive model that enables the distribution and prediction of system parameters and resources for diverse computational tasks, essential for the successful implementation and utilization of V2X technology.

This survey delves into cross layer energy-efficient solutions and cutting-edge security measures for Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The conventional security techniques are considered inadequate, leading to the suggestion of AI-powered intrusion detection systems and novel strategies such as blockchain integration. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review and analysis of secure and energy efficient cross-layer framework for IoT.We highlight the significance of developing IoT security for robust and sustainable connected systems. We discuss multi-layered security approaches and ways to enhance energy efficiency of resource-constrained devices in IoT networks. Finally, we identify open research issues and future research directions in the emerging field ofcross-layer design for secure and energy efficient IoT networks. We expect this study will stimulate further research endeavors to build a secure and energy-efficient framework for next-generation IoT systems.

: Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are gaining popularity due to their versatility and cost-effectiveness. However, selecting appropriate gateways to connect these networks to external networks remains a key challenge. This paper presents a comprehensive review of gateway selection methods in WMNs, classifying them into network-centric, user-centric, and hybrid approaches. Key factors such as network topology, traffic volume, quality of service, and available resources are considered in evaluating these methods. The effectiveness of different strategies is assessed using metrics like throughput, latency, energy usage, and fairness. The impact of mobility, node heterogeneity, and security concerns on gateway selection is also explored. In addition to reviewing existing methods, the paper identifies research gaps and proposes future directions. Advanced methods that can adapt to changing network environments and support large-scale deployments are highlighted. This survey offers valuable insights for researchers and network designers to improve the efficiency and reliability of WMNs in real-world applications.

Using Drone Cells to optimize Radio Access Networks is an exemplary way to enhance the capabilities of terrestrial Radio Access Networks. Drones fitted with communication and relay modules can act as Drone Cells. The multi Drone Cell placement problem is solved using an adapted Dispersive Flies Optimization alongside with other meta-heuristic algorithms such as Particle Swarm Optimization and Differential Evolution. A home-brewed simulator has been used to test the effectiveness of the different implemented algorithms. Specific environment respective parameter tuning have been explored to better highlight possible advantages of one algorithm over other in any particular environment. Algorithmic diversity has been explored, leading to several modifications and improvements in the implemented models. The results show that using tuned parameters there is a performance uplift in coverage probability when compared to the default meta-heuristic parameters while still remaining within the constraints implied by the problem’s requirements and resource limitation. The paper concludes by offering a study between multiple meta-heuristic approaches and comparison between the methods, investigating the impact of parameter-tuning as well as analyzing the impact of intermittent restart for algorithms persistent diversity.

5G Mobile Adhoc Networks (5G-MANETs) are a popular and agile solution for data transmission in local contexts, while maintaining communication with remote entities via 5G. These characteristics have established 5G-MANETs as versatile communication infrastructures for deploying contextual applications, leveraging physical proximity while exploiting the possibilities of the Internet. As a result, there is growing interest in exploring the potential of these networks and their performance in real-world scenarios. However, the management and monitoring of 5G-MANETs is challenging due to their inherent characteristics, such as highly variable topology, unstable connections, energy consumption of individual devices, message routing, and occasional inability to connect to 5G. Considering these challenges, the proposed work aims to address real-time monitoring of 5G-MANETs using a connection-aware Digital Twin (DT). The approach provides two main functions: offering a live virtual representation of the network, even in scenarios where multiple nodes lack 5G connectivity, and estimating the performance of the infrastructure, enabling the specification of customized conditions. To achieve this, a communication architecture is proposed, analyzing its components and defining the involved processes. The DT is implemented and evaluated in a laboratory setting, assessing its accuracy in representing the physical network under varying conditions of topology and Internet availability. The results show 100% accuracy for the DT in fully connected topologies, with ultra-low latency averaging under 80 ms, and suitable performance in partially connected contexts, with latency averages below 3000 ms.

As wireless networks have become an integral part of modern communication infrastructure, ensuring their security against a rapidly evolving threat landscape is a critical concern. This research article provides a comprehensive overview of the emerging threats targeting wireless networks, including advanced persistent threats, man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks, and AI-driven adaptive malware. With the advent of new technologies such as 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI), the attack surface for wireless networks has significantly expanded, demanding more robust and adaptive security protocols.The paper analyzes the efficacy of current wireless security protocols, such as WPA3 and the 802.11i standard, in addressing these emerging vulnerabilities. While these protocols have introduced significant improvements, they are not without limitations. The article further explores innovative solutions such as blockchain-based security frameworks, AI-powered threat detection systems, and the future potential of quantum cryptography in safeguarding wireless communications.Through a critical review of recent case studies and empirical data, the article highlights the key challenges that organizations face in securing wireless networks, particularly in IoT environments where security standards lag behind technological advancements. The research concludes that while existing protocols provide foundational security, they must be continuously updated and augmented with cutting-edge technologies to counter the growing sophistication of cyberattacks.This article aims to provide insights into the state of wireless network security and offer practical recommendations for enhancing security protocols. Future research directions are also discussed, focusing on the integration of AI-driven threat intelligence and the standardization of security protocols across various wireless technologies. The findings underscore the importance of proactive security measures to safeguard wireless networks in an increasingly interconnected world.

Batched network coding (BNC) is a practical realization of random linear network coding (RLNC) designed for reliable network transmission in multi-hop networks with packet loss. By grouping coded packets into batches and restricting the use of RLNC within the same batch, BNC resolves the issue of RLNC that has high computational and storage costs at the intermediate nodes. A simple and common way to apply BNC is to fire and forget the recoded packets at the intermediate nodes, as BNC can act as an erasure code for data recovery. Due to the finiteness of batch size, recoding strategy is a critical design that affects the throughput, the storage requirements and the computational cost of BNC. The gain of the recoding strategy can be enhanced with the aid of a feedback mechanism, however the utilization and development of this mechanism is not yet standardized. In this paper, we investigate a multi-phase recoding mechanism for BNC. In each phase, recoding depends on the amount of innovative information remained at the current node after the transmission of the previous phases was completed. Relevant information can be obtained via hop-by-hop feedback, then a more precise recoding scheme that allocates networking resources can be established. Unlike hop-by-hop retransmission schemes, the reception status of individual packets does not need to be known, and packets to be sent in the next phase may not be the lost packets in the previous phase. Further, due to the loss-tolerance feature of BNC, it is unnecessary to pass all innovative information to the next node. This study illustrates that multi-phase recoding can significantly boost the throughput and reduce the decoding time as compared with the traditional single-phase recoding approach. This opens new window in developing better strategies for designing BNC, rather than sending more batches in a blind manner.

This paper aims to propose a novel SOS traffic and study its impact over Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Human-to-Human (H2H) traffic in Internet of Things environments specifically during disaster events. During such events (e.g., the spread COVID-19), SOS traffic, with its predicted exponential increase, will significantly influence all mobile networks. SOS traffic tends to cause many congestion overload problems that significantly affects the performance of M2M and H2H traffic. In our project, we developed a new Continuous-Time Markov Chains (CTMC) model to analyze and measure radio access performance in terms of massive SOS traffic that influences M2M and H2H traffic. Afterwards, we validate the proposed CTMC model through extensive Monte-Carlo simulations. By analyzing the traffic during an emergency case, we can spot a huge impact over the three traffic M2M, H2H, and SOS traffic. To solve the congestion problem while keeping the SOS traffic without any influence, we propose to grant the SOS traffic the highest priority over M2M and H2H traffic. However, by implementing this solution in different proposed scenarios, the system becomes able to serve all SOS requests, while only 20% of M2M and H2H traffic could be served in the worst-case scenario. Consequently, we can alleviate the expected shortage of SOS requests during critical events, which might save many humans and rescue them from being isolated.

In this paper, a novel cloud-based service is proposed that employs various advanced NLP and encryption methods with the use of blockchain. These techniques are combined to provide a solid solution to secure fundamental data such as credit card numbers, passports or any government identity cards etc. Using a hybrid NLP model, integrating Transformer Models and Named Entity Recognition (NER), to automatically catagorzing data as critical vs non-critical. Only the most important data is encrypted by a user’s cryptographic wallet before being divided into multiple chunks and stored on an exclusive cloud cluster; metadata then takes turns managing securely through blockchain to provide traceable means of retaining integrity. Smart contracts provide strict access control measures and change the cryptographic nonce if need be to prevent illegal entrance into a specific zone, thus create security. This all-inclusive strategy maintains well-known high security standards for protecting the confidentiality, availability and integrity of your sensitive data on a global scale—delivering you simple yet scalable secure world-class cloud-based data management. A proposed framework developed to fulfil the security requirements for current cloud services, which is a beneficial contribution in context of data protection and cloud Security.

Backscatter communication, which transmits information by passively reflecting radio frequency (RF) signals, has become a focal point of interest due to its potential to significantly enhance the energy efficiency of Wireless Power Mobile Edge Computing (WPMEC) networks and extend the operational lifespan of terminal devices. However, there is little research on the integration of user cooperation in WPMEC scenarios within volatile network environments. In this paper, we propose a dynamic task offloading scheme for a Backscatter-assisted WPMEC system, which involves two mobile devices (MDs) and a Hybrid Access Point (HAP) with user cooperation. We formulate the energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem as a stochastic programming problem, considering the randomness of task arrivals and time-varying wireless channels. By leveraging Dinkelbach’s method and stochastic network optimization technique, we transform the problem into a series of deterministic sub-problems for each time slot, and convert the non-convex sub-problem into convex ones. We propose a low-complex EE maximization algorithm to solve the convex problems efficiently. Extensive simulations are conducted to validate the performance of our algorithm under various system parameter settings. Experiment results demonstrate that our algorithm not only outperforms the benchmark algorithms by approximately 23%, but also stabilize all queues within the MEC system.

VR, AR, blockchain, AI, the fifth-generation (5G) networks, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are central to Metaverse functionality, enabling real-time interactions and data integration. Real-Time Metaverse aims to replicate instantaneous real-world interactions, requiring advanced technological infrastructure for seamless data exchange. Critical challenges include ensuring low latency, high bandwidth, scalability, and robust security measures. Metaverse’s potential spans various domains, promising to revolutionize social interactions, entertainment, workplaces, and education through dynamic, immersive experiences. Ongoing advancements in high-performance computing, cloud services, and AI-driven technologies are essential for addressing existing barriers and achieving a cohesive, secure, and inclusive Metaverse ecosystem. Future research must focus on enhancing user experience, accessibility, and standardized interoperability to fully realize the transformative capabilities of a Metaverse.

In this paper, we investigate whether greedy algorithms, traditionally used for pedestrian-based crowdsensing, remain effective in the context of vehicular crowdsensing (VCS). Vehicular crowdsensing leverages vehicles equipped with sensors to gather and transmit data to address several urban challenges. Despite its potential, VCS faces issues with user engagement due to inadequate incentives and privacy concerns. In this paper, we use a dynamic incentive mechanism based on a recurrent reverse auction model, incorporating vehicular mobility patterns and realistic urban scenarios using the Simulation of Urban Mobility (SUMO) traffic simulator and OpenStreetMap (OSM). By selecting a representative subset of vehicles based on their locations within a fixed budget, our mechanism aims to improve coverage and reduce data redundancy. We evaluate the applicability of successful participatory sensing approaches designed for pedestrian data and demonstrate their limitations when applied to VCS. This research provides insights into adapting greedy algorithms for the particular dynamics of vehicular crowdsensing.

The emerging wireless energy transfer technology enables sensor nodes to maintain perpetual operation. However, maximizing the network performance while preserving short charging delay is a great challenge. In this work, a Wireless Mobile Charger (WMC) and a Directional Charger (DC) are deployed to transmit wireless energy to the sensor node to improve the network's throughput. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to optimize the data sensing rate and charging delay by joint scheduling of MC and DC. We prove we can transmit maximum energy to each sensor node to obtain our optimization objective. In our proposed work, a DC selects a total horizon of equipped with DCs, which selects the horizon of each specific area with based on its antenna orientation. DC's orientation is scheduled for each time slot. Furthermore, multiple MCs are used to transmit energy for sensor nodes which cannot be covered by DCs. We divided the Rechargeable Wireless Sensor Network into several zones via the Voronoi diagram. We deployed a static DC and one MC charging location in each zone to provide wireless charging service jointly. We obtain the optimal charging location of MCs in each zone by solving Mix Integral Programming for energy transmission. The optimization objective of our proposed research is to sense maximum data from each sensor node with the help of maximum energy. The lifetime of each sensor network can increase, and the end delay can be maximized with joint energy transmission. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that our RWSNs are designed significantly to improve network lifetime over the baseline method.

This paper discusses the application and advantages of artificial intelligence technology in digital media interactive product design. Firstly, the development background of artificial intelligence technology and its promoting effect on design innovation is introduced, and the application of new technologies, such as generative adversarial networks in art creation and design personalization, is definitely analyzed. It then explores in detail the ability of AI to break traditional constraints in interactive design, innovate design, and optimize user experience, especially in digital media. Finally, the case study of Microsoft Cortana shows the method of classifying and processing user queries by machine learning system and its experimental results. The research of this paper provides the theoretical basis and empirical support for the application of artificial intelligence technology in the future interactive design of digital media and has important academic and practical significance.

Recent advances in signal processing and AI-based inference enable the exploitation of communication signals to collect information on devices, people, actions and the environment in general, i.e., to perform Integrated Sensing And Communication (ISAC). This possibility opens new and exciting opportunities for IoT systems, but at the same time poses unprecedented threats to security and privacy of data, devices, and systems. In fact, ISAC operates at the PHY and Medium Access Control (MAC) layers, where it is impossible to protect the information with standard encryption techniques, or with any other purely digital methodologies. The work we present analyzes, within the framework of IoT and distributed, pervasive communication systems, the threats to security and privacy posed by ISAC and how they do intertwine at the PHY layer. Next, possible countermeasures are presented and discussed, with proper architectural choices and tradeoffs to implement them, as well as solutions and protocols to preserve the potential benefits of ISAC while ensuring data protection and users’ privacy.

As computer networks develop in size and complexity, the need for equipment that can characterize, inspect, monitor, and summarize the features of a transmission in real time grows. Many transmission and packet inspection theories are required to examine network traffic. Unfortunately, loss the track or traceability of one traffic scenarios against others over real-time network. Deep packet inspection (DPI) approaches can be used to alleviate the problem but still face flexibility constraints in the sense that it will be difficult to keep track of prior occurrences. There have been significant theoretical improvements in packet inspection, but the problem of event tracking flexibility remains unsolved. A novel approach for “integrating blockchain with DPI” in summarizing computer network traffic flow events has emerged as a result of this research: This technique captured traffic flows in the network, DPI report, and the entire transmission session header and load them into a smart-contract based- Blockchain. Two experimental scenarios are used to test the validity of the system. The first scenarios involve analysis of DPI transmission without integrating blockchain, follow by the captured of transmission session involving DPI with blockchain. The finding indicates that DPI transmission with blockchain is more secured against "Tampering Incidents", "Unauthorized Access Attempts", “Auditability” and many other security concern. Whereas, the performance overhead introduced by blockchain-based DPI indicate an increase in "DPI Processing Time from 68ms to 150ms, a "CPU Usage increment by 20%, Network Latency increment of 15ms from 20ms to 35ms, and almost all other computational resources increase. Therefore, the finding can be summarized that the performance overhead introduced by integrating blockchain with DPI increases, but it provides a secure DPI reports for decision making.

Smart agriculture is a new way of farming that uses advanced technology. It makes a significant contribution to improving the efficiency and productivity of farming practices. Systems that use drones to monitor pests and spray pesticides greatly reduce the burden on farmers. In addition, remote sensing technology facilitates the monitoring of crop growth conditions and the early detection of diseases and pests. However, the high cost of equipment to communicate sensor data is preventing farmers from adopting sensing systems. As a result, many studies have been conducted to make the sensing system available at a low cost. Nevertheless, many farmers have not yet adopted them. Therefore, this paper proposes an agricultural sensor network system using drones and optical camera communication (OCC). The proposed system aims to achieve high-density farm sensing at low cost. The proposed system uses OCC as the communication method for sensor data. Low cost light sources such as LED panels can be used as transmitters. In addition, existing agricultural drones equipped with cameras can be used as receivers. We also propose a trajectory control algorithm for the receiving drone to efficiently collect the sensor data. The proposed system is suitable for deploying sensor networks in areas with underdeveloped infrastructure and radio silence. In this paper, we conducted a preliminary experiment at a leaf mustard farm in Kamitonda-cho, Wakayama to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system using a Mavic 2 Pro drone, launched by DJI Co., Ltd.

This paper investigates the impact of network topologies on the security of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). We propose the use of Spectre Monotile aperiodic tiling for sensor deployment, demonstrating its superior security compared to regular deterministic topologies. Additionally, we introduce a novel Intrusion Effort Index to quantify network resilience against clone attacks. By implementing a smart random walk to simulate the scenario of malicious cloned nodes attempting to reach the central access point of a network, we take into consideration the worst-case scenario for a network as it is being attacked. Given all network topologies use the same intrusion detection system and security protocols, we discover the topology of a network will also play a role and provide an additional layer of security depending on how it is designed. Similar to a fog-of-war, the sensor positions play a vital role in how an intruder assesses a network. By tiling a plane non-periodically, an absence of regularity in the structure is produced, which obfuscates an intruder attempting to predict the next sensor position, due to a varying number of adjacent neighboring nodes each time it reaches a new node. After 10,000 rounds of simulation emulating different scenarios of malicious nodes compromising the network, we averaged the results to find total detections, total hops, and percentage of times the base station was reached. Our simulation results show that aperiodic tiling has the best security resilience and robustness compared to other flat network topologies.

Legal consideration hold significant importance in the cloud migration process, encompassing contractual arrangements, data sovereignty concerns, and liability matters. Organizations need to make sure that their contracts with cloud service providers (CSPS) cover important aspects such as data ownership, usage rights, and indemnification clauses. In the ever-changing world of smart cities, the importance of ensuring secure, compliant, and efficient data migration across international borders has become more crucial than ever. This paper introduces a new framework that combines natural language processing (NLP), and blockchain smart contracts to tackle the intricate legal issues involved in moving data across borders in cloud settings. The framework starts by utilizing an NLP model to ensure compliance with data protection regulations, such as GDPR, CCPA, and DPDPA, which are specific to the destination jurisdiction of the data. After confirming the verification, the smart contract initiates the data transfer process, securely recording metadata such as file hash, timestamp, and transfer details on the blockchain, guaranteeing transparency and immutability. After the transfer, an international vendor at the destination verifies the data against the relevant legal requirements, guaranteeing compliance before storing it in the destination cloud. By adopting this approach, we can ensure the legal validity of cross-border data transfers, while also promoting trust and accountability among all parties involved in smart city ecosystems. The findings indicate that this framework has the potential to greatly reduce the risks associated with data sovereignty, liability, and contractual obligations when moving data to the cloud.

With the rapid consumer adoption of mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones, the tele-traffic has experienced a tremendous growth, low power technologies are highly desirable for future communication networks. In this paper, we consider an ambient backscatter (AB) based user cooperation (UC) scheme for mmWave wireless powered communication networks (WPCN) with lens antenna arrays. Firstly, we formulate an optimization problem to maximize the minimum rate of two users by jointly designing power and time allocation. Then we introduce auxiliary variables and transform the original problem into a convex form. Finally, we propose an efficient algorithm to solve the transformed problem. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed AB based UC scheme outperforms the competing schemes, thus improve the fairness performance of throughput in WPCN.

In recent years, with the development of the Internet of Things and distributed computing, the "server-edge device" architecture has been widely deployed. This study focuses on leveraging autoencoder technology to address the binary classification problem in network intrusion detection, aiming to develop a lightweight model suitable for edge devices. Traditional intrusion detection models face two main challenges when directly ported to edge devices: inadequate computational resources to support large-scale models and the need to improve the accuracy of simpler models. To tackle these issues, this research utilizes Extreme Learning Machine for its efficient training speed and compact model size to implement autoencoders. Two improvements over the latest related work are proposed: First, to improve data purity and ultimately enhance detection performance, this study partitions the data into multiple regions based on the prediction results of these autoencoders. Second, leveraging autoencoder characteristics to investigate further the data within each region. We used the public dataset NSL-KDD to test the behavior of the proposed mechanism. The experimental results show that when dealing with multi-class attacks, the model's performance was significantly improved, the accuracy and the F1-score are improved by 3.5% and 2.9%, respectively maintaining its lightweight nature.

Technological progress brings new tools to help society's development. In this context, the Internet of Things (IoT) helps to advance modern society. By connecting everyday objects and devices to the Internet, IoT enables benefits such as efficiency and automation, healthcare, environmental sustainability, safety, security, and data-driven decision-making. One of the possible technologies for devices' communication is LoRa, a wireless technology designed for the IoT that allows devices to communicate over long ranges using little battery power. This makes it useful for situations where it is needed to connect many devices spread out over a large area, like in smart cities or industrial settings. This paper aims to verify and evaluate the LoRa communication signal loss in a building environment. For this evaluation, we collected and processed data through experiments with LoRa links in the Instituto Federal de Pernambuco (IFPE) Campus.

In response to the increasing complexity and sophistication of cyber threats, particularly those enhanced by advancements in artificial intelligence, traditional security methods are proving insufficient. This paper explores the zero-trust cybersecurity framework, which operates on the principle of "never trust, always verify" to mitigate vulnerabilities within organizations. Specifically, it examines the applicability of zero-trust principles in environments where large volumes of information are exchanged, such as schools and libraries, highlighting the importance of continuous authentication, least privilege access, and breach assumption. The findings highlight avenues for future research that may help preserve the security of vulnerable organizations.

The rapid proliferation of digital devices and connectivity has seen an unprecedented rise in the threats of cyber-attacks, making cybersecurity a high research priority worldwide. Among the various forms of cyberattacks, malicious software or malware, significantly disrupts the privacy and integrity of data on millions of computing devices globally. It is already a well-established notion that robust malware analysis underpins successful protection systems in the rapidly changing threat landscape. Traditional malware detection techniques, although effective against known malware types, are often found wanting against new and sophisticated varieties. The situation necessitates the exploration of advanced techniques like cryptographic hashing and fuzzy hashing that have proven instrumental in handling malware's dynamic nature. Fuzzy hashing, by allowing a score-based match rather than an exact digital signature, enables the identification of unknown malware that are derivatives of known malwares. However, the efficiency of the fuzzy hashing algorithms comes to the forefront concerning the encryption used. The research paper titled, "Using ASCON-based Fuzzy Hashing for Efficient Malware Analysis," seeks to explore leveraging the ASCON encryption, a lightweight but secure encryption standard, in the application of fuzzy hashing for malware detection.

This paper focuses on the concepts used in Quantum Cryptography and recent progress made. We look at the different categories of key distribution protocols that have been proposed and issues related to those. We then take an overview of two main approaches of communication using quantum cryptography concepts, i.e., ``Quantum Secure Direct Communication'' and ``Deterministic Secure Quantum Communication'', and limitations related to the usage of these schemes in a real-world system. At last, we list down the problems identified in the research and conclude our discussion by proposing areas of focus for future research.

With the widespread use of the Internet of Things, underwater control and monitoring systems for purposes such as ocean data sampling, natural disaster prevention, underwater surveillance, submarine exploration, and the like have become a popular and challenging topic in computers. So far, various topology control and routing solutions have been proposed for these networks. However, as technology expands and applications grow, so does the need for a stable underwater communication platform. On the other hand, underwater communication is associated with challenges such as node mobility, long propagation delays, low bandwidth, limited resources, and high error rates. In this research, for the first time, a topology control platform based on the RPL tree is modelled by applying its structural changes underwater. The proposed RPLUW methods in the case of RPLUWM fixed nodes are introduced to support the mobility of nodes underwater. Flexible objective functions, utilisation of decision-making systems, and application of control schedules in these methods have increased network life, reduced overhead, and increased node efficiency. The simulation results of the proposed method, in comparison with recent methods in this field, show an increase in network efficiency.

In the era of cloud computing, guaranteeing the safety and effectiveness of data management is of utmost importance. This investigation presents a novel approach that amalgamates sharding concept, encryption, zero-knowledge proofs (zkp), and blockchain technology for secure data retrieval and data access control to improve data security, efficiency in cloud storage and migration. Further we utilize user-specific digital wallets for secure encryption keys in order to encrypt the file before storing into the cloud. As Large files ( greater than 50 MB) or Big data file ( grater than 1 TB) computational complexity is more we leverage on sharding concept to enhance both space and time complexity in cloud storage, hence the large files are divided into shards and stored in different database servers. We also employed blockchain smart contract to enhance secure retrieval of the file and also a secure access method which ensures the privacy of the user. The zk-snark protocol is utilized to ensure the safe transfer of data between different cloud services. By utilizing this approach, data privacy is preserved, as only the proof of the data’s authenticity is shared with the verifier at the destination cloud, rather than the actual data itself. The suggested method tackles important concerns related to data protection, privacy, and efficient resource utilization in cloud computing settings by ensuring it meets all the cloud policies require to store data. As the environment maintains privacy of the user data and by not storing the raw data of the user anywhere, the entire environment is setup as a Zero trust model.

Survivability is a critical concern in WSNs, heavily influenced by energy efficiency. Addressing severe energy constraints in WSNs requires solutions that meet application goals while prolonging network life. This paper presents an energy optimization approach (EOAMRCL) for WSNs, integrating the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) for enhanced performance. EOAMRCL aims to enhance energy efficiency by selecting the optimal duty-cycle schedule, transmission power, and routing paths. The proposed approach employs a centralized strategy using a hierarchical network architecture. During the cluster formation phase, an objective function, augmented with GWO, determines the ideal cluster heads (CHs). The routing protocol then selects routes with minimal energy consumption for data transmission to CHs, using transmission power as a metric. In the transmission phase, the MAC layer forms a duty-cycle schedule based on cross-layer routing information, enabling nodes to switch between active and sleep modes according to their network allocation vectors (NAV). This process is further optimized by an enhanced CSMA/CA mechanism, which incorporates sleep/activate modes and pairing nodes to alternate between active and sleep states. This integration reduces collisions, improves channel assessment accuracy, and lowers energy consumption, thereby enhancing overall network performance. EOAMRCL was evaluated in a MATLAB environment, demonstrating superior performance compared to EEUC, DWEHC, and CGA-GWO protocols, particularly in terms of network lifetime and energy consumption. This highlights the effectiveness of integrating GWO and the updated CSMA/CA mechanism in achieving optimal energy efficiency and network performance.

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are going to be the primary data source in smart cities, often generating and communicating critical, sensitive, and private data that face threats of confidentiality breaches due to the rise of quantum computers. Even though NIST has approved post-quantum cryptography (PQC) schemes that promise to protect from quantum computer threats, these schemes can not be implemented efficiently on IoT devices, which often have computational and memory constraints. Hence, due to the substantial key size requirements and computationally intensive nature of PQC schemes, their direct deployment on IoT devices within smart city architecture is impeded by inherent computational and storage limitations. Consequently, it is imperative to devise PQC-based, resource-efficient authentication protocols tailored to IoT devices operating within smart cities. In this paper, we propose an offloading scheme that uses PQ Edge Server (PQES) for the network that performs PQC-related computation and memory operations for IoT devices in the network. The suggested technique transfers all storage and processing responsibilities from IoT devices in a network to ensure their normal operation and performance without any compromise. PQES generates a distinct PQ key pair for every network device and oversees a separate stream for each device. Therefore, IoT devices in the network may function without cryptographic processes, improving their efficiency by removing the need for conventional cryptography. Our results show that the proposed scheme reduces RAM usage to 1.05 KB and CPU usage to 1.75%, with maximum CPU context switches of 92.8. The proposed scheme uses TCP, a transport layer protocol, which is applicable to lightweight end devices without application-level protocols like HTTP or MQTT. When benchmarked on a Raspberry Pi, the PQES can handle 1000 concurrent connections and use a maximum of 73.5% of RAM. In comparison, previous research used at least 5.1 MB of RAM for one concurrent connection and may use up to 552.6 MB of RAM for 1000 concurrent connections. The maximum CPU usage for our method was 1.75%, whereas the previous proposal had a utilization of 67.1%. The greatest CPU context switches for our system were 92.8, far lower than the 3449 observed for the usual approach. Hence, our proposed scheme reduces the computational, memory, and network load for IoT devices by manifolds and increases device performance while providing PQC security.

Zero-day threats are a more severe and constantly developing menace to various participants including large companies, government offices, and educational establishments. These entities may contain valuable information and essential operations that attract cyber attackers. These exploits are especially devastating as they target weaknesses that an organization’s vendors are not even aware of, making them have no protection against them. This paper focuses on the background and use of zero-day exploitation and the structure and technologies of these complex malware attacks. We examine two notable real-life cases: the case of ‘HAFNIUM targeting Exchange Servers with zero-day exploits’ that was investigated by Microsoft 365 Security and Microsoft Threat Intelligence, and the ‘Log4j vulnerability’ case that was reported by the National Cyber Security Centre. These cases show the critical effects of zero-day vulnerabilities and measures taken to combat them. Additionally, this paper outlines different strategies that can be used to prevent zero-day attacks with the help of modern technologies. These are fast patch release, effective IDS/IPS, and a security model that involves constant vigilance and use of behavioral analytics. Thus, by studying the lifecycle of zero-day vulnerabilities and the structure of the exploits, one can enhance the protection of the organization against the threats that are invisible to traditional security systems. This extensive survey is designed to be useful in understanding the characteristics of zero-day vulnerabilities, the technologies for their mitigation, and the constant threat and development in the field of cybersecurity. Thus, it is possible to strengthen the protection against these threats that are constant and develop with time by analyzing the previous events and predicting potential problems.

The surge in big data and analytics has catalysed the proliferation of cybercrime, largely driven by organisations' intensified focus on gathering and processing personal data for profit, often overlooking security considerations. Hadoop and its derivatives are prominent platforms for managing big data, however, investigating security incidents within Hadoop environments poses intricate challenges due to scale, distribution, data diversity, replication, component complexity, and dynamicity. This paper proposes a digital forensics readiness framework and an incident response script for Linux-Hadoop systems, streamlining preliminary investigations. The framework offers a novel approach to digital forensics in the domains of big data and Hadoop environments. A prototype implementing important aspects of the DFR framework was developed and evaluated through comprehensive functionality and usability testing. The results demonstrated robust performance and efficacy.

In the Internet of Things (IoT) era, Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) significantly enhances the efficiency of smart devices but is limited by battery life issues. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) addresses this issue by providing a stable energy supply. However, effectively managing overall energy consumption remains a critical and under-addressed aspect for ensuring the network’s sustainable operation and growth. In this paper, we consider a WPT-MEC network wit user cooperation to migrate the double near-far effect for the mobile node (MD) far from the base station. We formulate the problem of maximizing long-term computation rates under a power consumption constraint as a multi-stage stochastic optimization (MSSO) problem. This approach is tailored for a sustainable WPT-MEC network, considering the dynamic and varying MEC network environment, including randomness in task arrivals and fluctuating channels. We introduce a virtual queue to transform the time-average energy constraint into a queue stability problem. Using the Lyapunov optimization technique, we decouple the stochastic optimization problem into a deterministic problem for each time slot, which can be further transformed into a convex problem and solved efficiently. Our proposed algorithm works efficiently online without requiring further system information. Rigorous mathematical analysis shows that our algorithm achieves O(1/V),O(V) trade-off between computation rate and queues stability. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms baseline schemes, achieving approximately 4% enhancement while maintain the queues stability.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) allows for the dynamic provisioning of Virtualized Network Functions, adapting services to the complex and real-time network environment for enhanced network performance. Despite the benefits of NFV, virtual network functions (VNFs) migration and the energy consumption pose significant challenges due to the dynamic nature of the physical network, especially in the edge-cloud continuum network. Currently, people tackle this challenge by predicting the network traffic and then proactively migrating the VNFs using the predicted values. There are two challenges here. First, when SFCs belong to different network service providers, the historical network traffic data is held by the service providers, and they are reluctant to share the historical data due to privacy concerns. Without the historical network traffic data of each SFC, the resource provider that owns the underlying network cannot effectively predict the network traffic; in addition, without the feedback of the migration results of the underlying physical network, the network traffic prediction will be difficult to match the needs of the physical network. In this manuscript, we solve the problem of network traffic prediction in the NFV-based edge-cloud continuum network for multiple network service providers. We aim to improve migration performance and reduce energy consumption while ensuring resource and latency requirements. To protect the privacy of each network service provider, we apply an FL algorithm. After that, to improve the migration performance, we tailor the loss function. In the loss function, factors such as the number of migrations, the number of migration failures, and the energy consumption of the NFV-based edge-cloud continuum network are added. Additionally, to obtain the results of the SFC migration, we develop a mathematical model for the problem of multiple network service providers in the NFV-based network. The effectiveness of our algorithm is evaluated through extensive simulations, and the results show a significant reduction in the number of migrated nodes and energy consumption while improving the SFC acceptance ratio compared to state-of-the-art schemes which only use the difference between predicted and actual flows to define the loss function.

The challenges in rural adoption, limited technology literacy among farmers, and high smartphone costs are discussed, highlighting potential barriers to seamless integration. To address the creation of a more comprehensive technological infrastructure, the study also explores the efforts and regulatory support provided by the government and the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). Furthermore, the comparative analysis sheds light on the unique characteristics and advancements in other countries, contributing to a holistic understanding of 5G's role in transforming global agricultural practices. By exploring the anticipated socio-economic factors influencing the pace and success of 5G adoption in the agricultural sector, this paper emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts, infrastructure development, and addressing accessibility challenges to achieve widespread agricultural technology integration.

The Internet of Things (IoT) signifies a revolutionary technological advancement, enhancing various applications through device interconnectivity while introducing significant challenges due to these devices' limited hardware and communication capabilities. To navigate these complexities, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has tailored the Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) to meet the unique demands of IoT environments. However, RPL struggles with traffic congestion and load distribution issues, negatively impacting network performance and reliability. This paper presents a novel enhancement to RPL by integrating learning automata designed to optimize network traffic distribution. This enhanced protocol, the Learning Automata-based Load-Aware RPL (LALARPL), dynamically adjusts routing decisions based on real-time network conditions, achieving more effective load balancing and significantly reducing network congestion. Extensive simulations reveal that this approach outperforms existing methodologies, leading to notable improvements in packet delivery rates, end-to-end delay, and energy efficiency. The findings highlight the potential of our approach to enhance IoT network operations and extend the lifespan of network components. The effectiveness of learning automata in refining routing processes within RPL offers valuable insights that may drive future advancements in IoT networking, aiming for more robust, efficient, and sustainable network architectures.

Network Slicing serves as an enabler for the new fifth generation (5G) of mobile networks era as it enhances connectivity and diverse network slice requirements across various user devices. Optimally orchestrating these 5G network slices to meet the varying demands of applications with diverse quality of service (QoS) requirements and stringent high performance metric remains a challenge today [1]. In this paper, a smart and novel machine learning (ML)-based framework, which dynamically sub-slice in real time and optimally orchestrate a 5G network slice is proposed. Our proposed framework incorporates series of supervised machine learning algorithms with the use of LazyPredict module to find and suggest the best-fit model and make intelligent decisions for the specific network data environment being monitored in real time or analysed with historical dataset. Additionally, the framework employs reinforcement-learning techniques to predict future network traffic data pattern thereby optimally allocating network resources and orchestrating alternative best fit bespoke network slice. This alternative network sub-slice is orchestrated as required to reduce the risk of denial of service and improve user experience. This ultimately forms the proposed new vertical Enterprise Network as a Service: Company Network as a Service (CNaaS) in this study. The proposed approach is extensively evaluated through simulations using python with MATLAB and Simulink. This identified the important features and performance metrics for the 5G network data and demonstrated the efficiency and improvement in key metrics such as latency, throughput, jitter, packet loss rate, and available network resource utilisation compared to conventional methods [1]. The results highlight the importance of leveraging the right machine-learning algorithm for each unique network as the demand requirements changes. The proposed Enhanced Sub-Slice (eSS) module with embedded series of machine learning algorithms using the Lazypredict shows that one size does not fit all and demonstrates the significance of leveraging advanced ML techniques and ML pipelines in the context of 5G network slice management and orchestration.

Load balancing to alleviate network congestion remains a critical challenge in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs). During route and response scheduling, RSUs risk being overloaded beyond their calculated capacity. Despite recent advancements like RSU-based load transfer, NP-Hard hierarchical geography routing, RSU-based MAC schemes, simplified clustering, and network activity control, a significant gap persists in employing a load-balancing server for effective traffic management. We propose a server-based network congestion handling mechanism (SBNC) in VANETs to bridge this gap. Our approach clusters RSUs within specified ranges and incorporates dedicated load balancing and network scheduler RSUs to manage route selection and request-response scheduling, thereby balancing RSU loads. We introduce three key algorithms: optimal placement of dedicated RSUs, a scheduling policy for packets/data/requests/responses, and a congestion control algorithm for load balancing. Using the VanetMobiSim library of Network Simulator-2 (NS-2), we evaluate our approach based on residual energy consumption, end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio (PDR), and control packet overhead. Results indicate substantial improvements in load balancing through our proposed server-based approach.

The advent of Sixth Generation (6G) wireless technologies introduces challenges and opportunities for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) and Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), necessitating a reevaluation of traditional routing protocols. This paper introduces the Multi-Metric Scoring Dynamic Source Routing (MMS-DSR), a novel enhancement of the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol, designed to meet the demands of 6G-enabled MANETs and the dynamic environments of VANETs. MMS-DSR integrates advanced technologies and methodologies to enhance routing performance in dynamic scenarios. Key among these is the use of a CNN-LSTM based beamforming algorithm, which optimizes beamforming vectors dynamically, exploiting spatial-temporal variations characteristic of 6G channels. This enables MMS-DSR to adapt beam directions in real-time based on evolving network conditions, improving link reliability and throughput. Furthermore, MMS-DSR incorporates a multi-metric scoring mechanism that evaluates routes based on multiple QoS parameters, including latency, bandwidth, and reliability, enhanced by the capabilities of Massive MIMO and the IEEE 802.11ax standard. This ensures route selection is context-aware and adaptive to changing dynamics, making it effective in urban settings where vehicular and mobile nodes coexist. Additionally, the protocol uses machine learning techniques to predict future route performance, enabling proactive adjustments in routing decisions. The integration of dynamic beamforming and machine learning allows MMS-DSR to effectively handle the high mobility and variability of 6G networks, offering a robust solution for future wireless communications, particularly in smart cities.

The Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) protocol stands as a cornerstone in modern aviation surveillance and Aircraft Traffic Control systems, integral to the NextGen project initiated by the US Department of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2005. ADS-B utilizes data links to autonomously broadcast Aircraft navigational and identification information to augment air transportation system capacity and safety. However, concerns regarding the protocol's security persist, particularly as its adoption expands. The unencrypted nature of transmitted aircraft data and the absence of robust authentication mechanisms render the protocol susceptible to exploitation by malicious actors. In this study, we comprehensively reviewed existing research in the field, identifying a crucial gap necessitating a holistic survey. Prior surveys have predominantly focused on specific aspects, such as vulnerabilities, attacks, or critiques of existing solutions. Our survey addresses this gap by thoroughly exploring the aviation system, providing readers with a nuanced understanding of ADS-B security. Utilizing a detailed SWOT analysis diagram, our paper delves into the vulnerabilities inherent in the ADS-B protocol outlines potential threats and scrutinizes various attack scenarios. We systematically categorize and analyze existing security solutions, considering cost-effectiveness, scalability, implementation complexity, and coverage against diverse attack vectors. Furthermore, we critically evaluate these solutions, elucidate ADS-B security requirements, discuss current challenges, and propose future research directions. This survey serves as a comprehensive resource for researchers and practitioners alike, shedding light on the multifaceted landscape of ADS-B security and paving the way for enhanced aviation system resilience in the face of evolving cybersecurity threats.

While advances in information and communication technology have increased the efficiency of information distribution, it has also brought several challenges to the database industry. One of the main challenges is ensuring the real-time availability of data, which is critical. In addition, downtime in centralized database systems can cause significant failures. Therefore this research applies database replication, especially the multi-master method, is used to increase availability and reduce the possibility of failure. For distributed transaction distribution, this research uses the auto-promote master method and web services for PostgreSQL database replication. The focus of the research is on real-world college site selection transactions, where speed, scalability, and high data availability are critical. The results show that combining these methods can improve system performance and protect data availability. With fast response time, high throughput, and low error rate, the API performs well with various loads. As a testament to scalability and reliability, the system can handle large volumes of traffic without experiencing significant crashes. For containerization, Docker supports efficient and stable performance and ensures consistency and manageability. Future recommendations include improving the data security mechanism and further efforts to optimize the distribution system architecture.

The paper addresses the energy consumption minimization problem in wireless powered communication networks (WPCNs) and proposes a DT-SWIPT-assisted time allocation scheme, named DaTA, such that the wireless station can share the remaining energy after transmission to the HAP to those who have not transmitted to the HAP to minimize the energy consumption of the network. In addition to proposing a new frame structure, the paper also considers the SNR (Signal-to-Noise) constraint to guarantee that the HAP can successfully receive data from wireless stations. In the paper, the energy consumption minimization problem is formulated as a nonlinear programming model. We employ the SQP (Sequential Quadratic Programming) algorithm to figure out the optimal solution. Moreover, a heuristic method is proposed as well to obtain a near-optimal solution in a shorter time. Simulation results showed that the proposed scheme can have better performance than the related work in terms of energy consumption and energy efficiency.

Mobile devices (MD) are used by mobile cloud computing (MCC) customers users because of their 11 portability and robust connectivity and the ability to house and operate third-party applications 12 (apps). However, the apps installed on a MD may pose data security risks to the MD owner and to 13 other MCC users, especially when the requested permissions include access to sensitive data (e.g., 14 user’s location and contacts). Calculating the risk score of an app or quantifying its potential 15 harmfulness based on user input or on data gathered while the app is actually running may not 16 provide reliable and sufficiently accurate results to avoid harmful consequences. This study 17 develops and evaluates a risk assessment framework for Android-based MDs that does not depend 18 on user input or on actual app behaviour. Rather, an app risk evaluator assigns a risk category to 19 reach resident app based on the app’s classification (benign or malicious) and the app’s risk score. 20 The app classifier (a trained machine learning model) considers the permissions and the intents 21 requested by the app. The apps risk score is calculated by a probabilistic function based on the 22 app’s use of a set of selected dangerous permissions. The results from the testing of an instance of 23 the framework on a MD with real-life resident apps indicated that the proposed security solution 24 was effective and feasible.

The emerging and promising paradigm of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) employ vehicle-to-everything communication for facilitating vehicles to not only communicate with one another but also with the supporting roadside infrastructure, vulnerable pedestrians, and the backbone network in a bid to primarily address a number of safety-critical vehicular applications. Nevertheless, owing to the inherent characteristics of IoV networks, in particular, of being (a) highly dynamic in nature and which results in a continual change in the network topology and (b) non-deterministic owing to the intricate nature of its entities and their interrelationships, they are susceptible to a number of malicious attacks. Such sort of attacks, if and when materializes, jeopardizes the entire IoV network, thereby putting the human lives at risk. Whilst the cryptographic-based mechanisms are capable of mitigating the external attacks, the internal attacks are extremely hard to tackle. Trust, therefore, is an indispensable tool since it facilitates in the timely identification and eradication of malicious entities responsible for launching internal attacks in an IoV network. To date, there is no dataset pertinent to trust management in the context of IoV networks and the same has proven to be a bottleneck for conducting an in-depth research in this domain. The manuscript-at-hand, accordingly, presents a first of its kind trust-based IoV dataset encompassing 96,707 interactions amongst 79 vehicles at different time instances. The dataset involves 9 salient trust parameters, i.e., packet delivery ratio, similarity, external similarity, internal similarity, familiarity, external familiarity, internal familiarity, reward / punishment, and context, which play a considerable role for ascertaining the trust of a vehicle within an IoV network.

In this paper we study a class of impulsive delayed neural networks with parameter uncertainties and reaction-diffusion terms. Using the properties of M-matrices and some inequality techniques, some sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the global exponential stability of the given system. The results obtained are presented by simple algebraic inequalities, which are certainly more concise than previous methods. Finally, the validity and usefulness of our results are illustrated by arithmetic examples.

This study investigates the implementation and performance benefits of using a MongoDB replica set compared to a single node setup. The primary objective was to evaluate the efficiency and reliability improvements provided by replication in a NoSQL database cluster. The research involved configuring a single node and a three-node replica set, followed by conducting performance tests using CRUD operations on both setups. The results indicated that while the single node exhibited faster write operations, the replica set significantly improved read performance and provided high availability and fault tolerance. The findings highlight the advantages of using a replica set for applications requiring robust data access and consistent performance under varying workloads.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a promising technology for sensing and monitoring the environment to reduce disaster impact. Energy is one of the major concerns for IoT devices, as sensors used in IoT devices are battery-operated. Thus, it is important to reduce energy consumption, especially during data transmission in disaster-adverse situations. Clustering-based communication helps reduce a node’s energy decay during data transmission and enhances the network’s lifetime. Many hybrid combination algorithms are proposed for clustering and the routing protocol to improve the network lifetime in disaster scenarios. However, the performance of these protocols is widely varied based on the underlying network configuration and the optimisation parameters considered. In this research, we have used the clustering parameters that are most relevant to disaster scenarios, such as the node’s residual energy, distance to sink, and network coverage. Then, we proposed a bio-inspired hybrid (BAO-PSO) algorithm where the Butterfly Optimisation Algorithm (BOA) is used for clustering and Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) is used for the routing protocol. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with the benchmark protocols LEACH, DEEC, PSO, PSO-GA, and PSO-HAS. Residual energy, network throughput, and network lifetime are considered performance matrices. The simulation result showed that the proposed algorithm increases network lifetime by 10%-20% by comparison with the benchmark algorithm.

Agile methodology is employed in development, and database replication techniques are applied for data synchronization. System features include registration, assessment form creation, assessment submission, statistical visualization, and access to assessment history. The system is designed to improve efficiency and transparency in the assessment process. Key features of the system include registration process, assessment form creation, assessment submission, statistical visualization, and access to assessment history. Its goal is to enhance efficiency and transparency throughout the assessment process. The article details the system workflow and the roles played by Admins, Instructors, and students in system usage. Additionally, it discusses the back-end development model and pathways, as well as the performance testing results. Performance testing indicates that the system achieves high throughput of up to 21.55 requests per second, with an average response time of only 34 milliseconds and an error rate of zero percent. These results affirm that the system efficiently handles user loads and nearly instantaneously responds to requests, providing an optimal user experience in the context of student performance evaluation in higher education.

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) integrated with Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is emerging as a promising solution to reduce task delays and extend the battery life of Mobile Devices (MDs). Cooperative user communication, or relay technology, enhances communication efficiency for users located far from the base station by mitigating the double near-far effect caused by distance. This is considered a key technology in Beyond 5G (B5G) and future communication systems. In this paper, we focus on maximizing the long-term energy efficiency (EE) of a user-cooperation WPT-MEC system, while taking into account the uncertain load dynamics at the edge MD and the time-varying state of the wireless channel. The joint optimization of wireless charging time fraction, MD offloading duration, helper node processing time, and transfer power decision presents significant challenges due to the coupling of data offloading among cooperative users and a volatile system environment. To address these challenges, we formulate the problem as a stochastic programming problem and propose an online control algorithm, DOUCA, to solve it. Our approach utilizes Dinkelbach’s method and Lyapunov optimization theory to decouple the sequential decision problem into a deterministic sub-problem for each time slot. For the sub-problem, we use variable substitution to convert the non-convex problem into a convex one, containing only a small number of variables, which can be efficiently solved. Furthermore, we provide a mathematical analysis of our algorithm’s performance. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm, as evidenced by an impressive energy efficiency improvement of over 20% compared to benchmark methods. Our algorithm also achieves a trade-off between EE and system stability.

The development of a real-time chatbot using microservices architecture has been proposed as a solution to overcome the main challenges faced by single-service chatbots, namely limited scalability and performance. In this research, Agile Methodology is used as a development approach that allows the team to flexibly build and update each microservices service iteratively, according to the changing needs that occur. The results show that the implementation of microservices on a chatbot can result in faster responses to user requests, significantly improving system efficiency. The microservices architecture provides advantages in terms of modularity, where system components such as session management, business logic, and user interface can be organized and developed separately. This makes it possible to upgrade and improve certain parts without disrupting the entire system, as well as providing flexibility in customizing features and scaling services as needs evolve. Future research is expected to further explore the broader integration potential of this microservices system in chatbot applications, as well as evaluate the security and reliability aspects in a broader context of use.

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) are a subset of mobile ad hoc networks used to communicate between vehicles and infrastructure. During vehicular congestion communication, nodes compete to acquire channels, causing the channels to become congested. The congestion on the vehicle network results in increased delay and packet loss, resulting in reduced VANET performance. To address this problem, we developed a load-aware and priority adaptive traffic congestion control method in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). The proposed scheme identifies less-congested road segments based on the network's load and reduces traffic congestion by suggesting other routes between nearby roadside units (RSUs). This research aims to improve the efficiency of the vehicular environment by utilizing the movement of vehicles with (RSUs) and sharing the traffic load between them. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed protocol in reducing congestion and enhancing the overall performance of VANETs. To validate the proposed algorithm, we have implemented and tested the proposed algorithm using Network Simulator 3 (NS3) for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication scenarios and computed the performance of the algorithm on different parameters of the network. The simulation result of the proposed load aware and priority adaptive traffic congestion control method in VANET improved the packet delivery ratio, packet lost ratio, and end-to-end delay by 96%, 4.1%, and 1102 milliseconds, when compared to TDCCA value of 92%, 5.7%, and 1154 milliseconds, respectively

The majority of local IPv6 networks continue to remain insecure and vulnerable to neighbor spoofing attacks. The Secure Neighbor Discovery (SEND) standard and its concomitant Cryptographically Generated Addressing (CGA) scheme were accepted by large standards bodies to codify practical mitigations. SEND and CGA have never seen widespread adoption due to their complexities, obscurity, costs, compatibility issues, and continued lack of mature implementations. In light of their poor adoption, research since their standardization has continued to find new perspectives and proffer new ideas. The orthodox solutions for securing Neighbor Discovery have historically struggled to successfully harmonize three core ideals: simplicity, flexibility, and privacy preservation. This research introduces Voucher-Based Addressing, a low-configuration, low-cost, and high-impact alternative to IPv6 address generation methods. It secures the Neighbor Discovery address resolution process while remaining simple, highly adaptable, indistinguishable, and privacy-focused. Applying a unique concoction of cryptographic key derivation functions, link-layer address binding, and neighbor consensus on the parameters of address generation, resolved address bindings are verifiable without the need for complex techniques that have hindered the adoption of canonical specifications.

Unmanned delivery technology using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has the potential to solve issues such as traffic congestion and labor shortages. We investigated a method to construct a route between the source and destination nodes in a wireless multi-hop network by installing a radio terminal in each house. If the relay functions of all nodes in the network are in operation, the number of control messages for route construction increases, and the message relay forwarding load of each node increases. Keeping all node pairs multi-hop connectivity, we establish a method to operate the relay function with as few nodes as possible. End nodes that have not activated the relay function connect to the relay node with the closest physical distance. In this paper, we propose methods for selecting nodes to operate the relay function. Specifically, one method is based on random selection, another method is based on the number of adjacent nodes, and a third method is based on the Multipoint Relay (MPR) of the Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR). For each method, we evaluate whether the route construction is available, the number of relay nodes, the total distance of constructed routes, and the distance in population-dense regions. We clarify the characteristics of each method, and the method based on MPR is the best for constructing a network suitable for UAV navigation routes. In addition, the smaller the number of relay nodes, the more unexpected collisions on the links due to route conflicts. We clarify the minimum node density required to apply the MPR method which reduces the number of relay nodes suppressing route conflicts.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have increasingly become integral to multi-access edge computing (MEC) due to their flexibility and cost-effectiveness, especially in the B5G and 6G eras. This paper aims to enhance the Quality of Experience (QoE) in large-scale UAV-MEC networks by minimizing the shrinkage ratio through optimal decision-making in computation mode selection for each user device (UD), UAV flight trajectory, bandwidth allocation, and computing resource allocation at edge servers. However, the interdependencies among UAV trajectory, binary task offloading mode, and computing/network resource allocation across numerous IoT nodes pose significant challenges. To address these challenges, we formulate the shrinkage ratio minimization problem as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem and propose a two-tier optimization strategy. To reduce the scale of the optimization problem, we first design a low-complexity UAV partition coverage algorithm based on the Welzl method and determine the UAV flight trajectory by solving a Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP). Subsequently, we develop a coordinate descent (CD) based method and an alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) based method for network bandwidth and computing resource allocation in the MEC system. The CD-based method is simple to implement and has a low computational complexity, while the ADMM-based method can further enhance the optimization result through joint optimization. Extensive simulations demonstrate that our proposed algorithms perform well in large-scale edge networks and outperform other representative benchmark methods.

This article, based on network science, aims to contribute to overcoming its geometric and technological phases. The novelty consists in considering links of networks as linked by superimposed networks, termed here multiple superimposed soft networks (MSSN), which is introduced as a research issue. Such links of links (termed here as passive links) concern, for instance, correspondences, incompatibilities, and temporal synchronizations between the occurrences of pairs of active links of effective networks, such as those based on electrical and telecommunication. A possible constitutive mechanism of such passive linkage consists of linkage representations for practices and histories of use expressed by their validating statistical reoccurrences. We consider the possible emergent nature of the passive linkage. The reason for introducing the design and usage of MSSN properties as a research issue involves making new approaches to profile and manage networks available. Correspondence between active linkage and MSSN properties should be a matter for an experiential, machine-learning approach. Research issues relate their possible usage on the active linkage such as for classification, comparations, detection of criticalities, diagnosis, performance evaluation, and regulatory as weak forces. Furthermore, the possible identification of standard corresponding configurations of passive and active linkage are finalized to avoid their establishment or, conversely, in facilitating their establishment and keeping their replication in different contexts (or partially and in combinations) and identifying related standardized approaches (also for classes of configurations having significant levels of equivalence). This research project has methodological generalizing aspects of trans-disciplinarity. We conclude by mentioning related research issues.

Device to Device (D2D) is a pivotal technology in the next generation of communication, allowing for direct task offloading between mobile devices (MDs) to improve the efficient utilization of idle resources. This paper proposes a novel algorithm for dynamic task offloading between active MDs and idle MDs in the D2D-MEC (Mobile Edge Computing) system by deploying multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to minimize the long-term average delay of delay-sensitive tasks under deadline constraints. Our core innovation is a dynamic partitioning scheme for idle and active devices in the D2D-MEC system, accounting for stochastic task arrivals and multi-time-slot task execution, which has been insufficiently addressed in existing literature. We adopt a queue-based system to formulate a dynamic task offloading optimization problem. To address the challenges of large action space and coupling of actions across time slots, we model the problem as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) and perform the multi-agent DRL through Multi-Agent Proximal Policy Optimization (MAPPO). We employ a centralized training with decentralized execution (CTDE) framework to enable each MD to make offloading decisions solely based on its local system state. Extensive simulations demonstrate the efficiency and fast convergence of our algorithm. In comparison with the existing sub-optimal results deploying single-agent DRL, our algorithm reduces the average task completion delay by 11.0% and the ratio of dropped tasks by 17.0%.

The clustering methods of Software Defined Networking (SDN) gained popularity due to their ability to offer improved scalability, consistency, dependability, and load balancing within overlay networks and SDN partitions. This paper delved into the effects of increasing the number of OpenFlow-enabled southbound devices on the establishment and coordination of SDN-Controller clusters. Specifically, we examined the volume of east-west cluster packet communication concerning the number of southbound devices within the topology. Many research studies focused on bandwidth and the number of bytes in East-West communication. While bandwidth referred to the maximum rate at which data could be transferred, and the number of bytes reflected the volume of data being transmitted, the number of packet communications directly influenced the efficiency and responsiveness of network operations. Our investigation encompassed the impact of SDN controllerto- controller communication within the cluster concerning the rising number of OpenFlow switches connected to various topologies, including tree (star-bus network), linear, and torus configurations. This study presented data on communication patterns within Open Network Operating Systems (ONOS) and OpenDaylight (ODL) clusters, revealing differing levels of controller communication with southbound network expansions. We evaluated the scalability of ODL and ONOS controllers by scrutinising the effect of increasing the number of southbound devices on control communication volume. Our analysis revealed varied communication patterns within ONOS and ODL clusters, resulting in different volumes of control communication with southbound expansions. The findings indicated that in small to medium-sized SDNs, ODL outperformed ONOS, notably with faster cluster discovery. Conversely, ONOS demonstrated greater efficiency in larger networks owing to its centralised communication architecture. Finally, we provided recommendations for selecting the most suitable controllers based on the size of southbound networks, aiming to provide practical guidelines for optimal network performance.

The emergence of 6G communication technologies brings both opportunities and challenges for the Internet of Things (IoT) in Smart Cities. In this paper, we introduce an advanced network slicing framework designed to meet the complex demands of 6G Smart Cities IoT deployments. The framework development follows a detailed methodology that encompasses requirement analysis, metric formulation, constraint specification, objective setting, mathematical modeling, configuration optimization, performance evaluation, parameter tuning, and validation of the final design. Our evaluations demonstrate the framework's high efficiency, evidenced by low Round-Trip Time (RTT), minimal packet loss, increased availability, and enhanced throughput. Notably, the framework scales effectively, managing multiple connections simultaneously without compromising resource efficiency. Enhanced security is achieved through robust features such as 256-bit encryption and a high rate of authentication success. The discussion elaborates on these findings, underscoring the framework's impressive performance, scalability, and security capabilities.

As technology advances, people are increasingly adopting IoT (Internet of Things) devices in smart cities. These devices are equipped with sensors that are connected everywhere, from energy infrastructure and transportation to telecommunications, health and human services, waste management, public safety, and more. People want to access sensor data anytime and everywhere to make better decisions and improve their lives. To achieve this, a sensor integration model has been developed where multiple sensors are integrated under one gateway to manage and share sensor data. However, effective sharing of sensor data requires data security, privacy, confidentiality, fairness, effective architectural design, and low communication and computation costs. These issues need to be addressed in the sensor integration model in smart cities. Existing storage models face challenges in managing sensor data effectively. To overcome these issues and hurdles, a data storage framework leveraging blockchain technology has been proposed within the sensor integration model. This framework ensures data security, privacy, confidentiality, and a fair and transparent financial model, all while minimizing communication and computation costs.

Sharing confidential information is a critical concern in today’s world. Secret sharing schemes facilitate the sharing of secrets in a way that ensures only authorized participants (shareholders) can access the secret using their allocated shares. Hierarchical secret sharing schemes (HSSSs) build upon Shamir’s scheme by organizing participants into different levels based on priority. Within HSSS, participants at each level can reconstruct the secret if a specified number, denoted as the threshold value (t), or more of them are present. Each level has a predetermined threshold value. If the number of participants falls below the threshold at any level, higher-level participants must be involved in reconstructing the secret at lower levels. Our paper proposes schemes that implement hierarchical access structures and enable the sharing of multiple secrets. Additionally, our proposed scheme includes share verification. We have analyzed potential attacks and demonstrated the scheme’s resistance against them. Through security analysis and comparison with existing schemes, we highlight the novelty and superiority of our proposed approach, contributing to advancements in secure information sharing practices.

As most of the videos are destined for human perception, many techniques have been designed to improve video coding based on how the human visual system perceives video quality. In this paper, we propose the use of two perceptual coding techniques, namely contrast masking and texture masking, jointly operating under the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard. These techniques aim to improve the subjective quality of the reconstructed video at the same bit rate. For contrast masking, we propose the use of a specific weighting matrix for each block size (from 4×4 up to 32×32). We achieve average Bjøntegaard Delta-Rate (BD-rate) gains of between 2.5% and 4.48%, depending on the perceptual metric and coding mode used. The texture masking scheme is based on the classification of each coding unit, using its mean directional variance features as input to a support vector machine model. According to this classification, the block’s energy, the type of coding unit, and its size, an over-quantization is computed to provide a QP offset (DQP) for this coding unit. By applying both techniques in the HEVC Reference Software, an overall average of 5.79% BD-rate gain is achieved.

This paper investigates the performance of dual hop UAV-assisted communication channels, employing a decode and forward relay architecture. The system utilizes Terahertz (THz) communication in the primary hop and Visible Light Communication (VLC) in the secondary hop. We conduct a thorough analysis by deriving closed-form expressions for end to end bit error rate (BER). Furthermore, we employ a Monte Carlo approach to generate best fitting curves and validate our numerical expressions with simulation results. Evaluation via BER and outage probability demonstrates the proposed system’s effectiveness. The outcomes of this research offer valuable insights into the feasibility and limitations of UAV-assisted THz- VLC systems.

In recent years, extensive research has been conducted on the IoT, one of its challenges has been the field security and penetration in these networks. security solutions it Require more planning and awareness to ensure system security and privacy protection.it has also been shown that adjusting the weights of neural networks can help improve the accuracy of detection to what extent. the challenge in the attack detection field is to increase the accuracy of attack detection by machine learning methods, in this paper, a new method is presented to adjust weights of the random neural network for attack detection. Evaluations of the proposed method show that compared to random neural network methods, nearest neighbor, and support vector machine, the accuracy of attack detection improves up to 99.49 percent, and the random neural network method has been able to improve by 99.01 percent, placing the best methods together in these experiments in the form of a multi-learning model showed that the results also had an increase in accuracy up to 99.56 percent, while the training time in the proposed model is less compared to the random neural network method.

Smart electronic devices and telemedicine are widely used in humans' daily lives. This provides remote treatment of patients using information and communications technology. New telemedicine technologies, such as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), make it easier for medical and computing devices to communicate regularly and effectively. Critical motivations for adapting the IoMT are reduced cost, increased quality of life, and timely medical intervention. IoMT is significant because it enables continuous, real-time patient monitoring during routine everyday activities using a variety of wearables and sensors. With big data, the IoMT technology makes excellent use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support disease detection and health condition prediction, alerting patients and healthcare providers. Many research studies have been conducted to explore various aspects of IoMT and its applications in the real world. However, it is challenging to comprehend all the techniques and solutions proposed by the research community. Therefore, this survey sheds light on some crucial aspects of IoMT technologies and explores the potential research gaps and directions the research community could tackle. The survey examines and discusses the characteristics of IoMT standards, protocols, and types. It then delves into the layers of IoMT and distinguishes them into Fog and edge. The studies published under each type were explored, and the limitations of these works were highlighted. The research gaps and directions on IoMT approaches and technologies were also highlighted. With such findings and research directions, further research endeavors could be carried out to address the issues and existing limitations in the IoMT.

The vast network of interconnected devices of the Internet of Things poses significant security challenges, necessitating the upgrade of current wireless networks to the 6G standard and an improved intrusion detection system for host networks. Thus this article therefore underscores a game theory concept to analyze the security impediments in wireless communication systems, where a host network bandwidth is jeopardized by the intruder while acting as a legitimate user. While game theory can help with the impending security concerns, network slicing is saliently proposed for large and complicated networks, precipitating a layer wise fragmentation of the concerned network and effectively addressing the security issues in different layers of the IoT framework. However, with increasing network complexity, network security issues incorporating traditional measures become increasingly cumbersome. Therefore, this paper also briefly mentions some of the ML techniques that can be used to classify and segregate valid users from the compromised nodes in the host network. The paper discusses the potential of incorporating intelligence into wireless communication systems to enhance the host network security. The paper further aids in analyzing existing security issues in different layers of wireless communication systems, underscoring network slicing for further classification of intruders from user nodes and training the host network using ML/AI per the user application specification.

Due to the rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), securing communications between a huge number of devices has become very difficult. Access controls and authentication secure the connection between IoT devices and protect sensitive data from unauthorized users or malicious attackers. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review to emphasize the critical role of authentication and access control in securing IoT environments. This paper explores different types of access controls, like Attribute-Based Access Control and Role-Based Access Control. Furthermore, it demonstrates different authentication techniques, like passwords and biometrics. Based on the previous mechanisms, we discuss different IoT security challenges regarding authentication and access control mechanisms and highlight future directions. In addition, this paper investigates the integration between access control and authentication to safeguard IoT communications.

Abstract: With the growing integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) in smart buildings, it is crucial to ensure the precise implementation and operation of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). This paper aims to study the implementation aspect of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in a commercial multi-story building, specifically addressing the difficulty of dealing with variable environmental conditions on each floor. This research addresses the disparity between simulated situations and actual deployments, offering valuable insights that have the potential to signifi-cantly improve the efficiency and responsiveness of building management systems. We obtain real-time sensor data to analyze and evaluate the system’s performance. Our investigation is grounded in the growing importance of incorporating WSNs into buildings to create intelligent environments. By leveraging the capabilities of Contiki operating system, this study employs a specialized simulator to generate simulated data, allowing for a comparison between real-world and simulated scenarios. We provide an in-depth analysis to scrutinize the disparities and commonalities between the datasets obtained from real-world deployments and simulated en-vironments. We highlight the necessity of precise simulation to validate real-life sensor data, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing WSNs in in-telligent buildings. Results obtained show the significance of accurate simulation models for re-liable data representation, providing a roadmap for further developments in the integration of WSNs into intelligent building scenarios. The findings highlight the potential for optimizing living and working conditions based on the real-time monitoring of critical environmental pa-rameters. This includes insights into temperature, humidity, and light intensity, offering oppor-tunities for enhanced comfort and efficiency in intelligent environments.

Private Set Intersection (PSI) is a cryptographic method in secure multi-party computation that allows entities to identify common elements in their datasets without revealing their private data. Traditional approaches assume similar-sized datasets and equal computational power, overlooking practical imbalances. In real-world applications, dataset sizes and computational capacities often vary, particularly in the Internet of Things and mobile scenarios where device limitations restrict computational types. Traditional PSI protocols are inefficient here, as computational and communication complexities correlate with the size of larger datasets. Thus, adapting PSI protocols to these imbalances is crucial. This paper explores unbalanced PSI scenarios where one party (the receiver) has a relatively small dataset and limited computational power, while the other party (the sender) has a large amount of data and strong computational capabilities. It introduces three innovative solutions for unbalanced PSI: unbalanced PSI protocol based on Cuckoo filters, unbalanced PSI protocol based on single cloud assistance, and unbalanced PSI protocol based on dual cloud assistance, each addressing the shortcomings of the previous solution. These protocols primarily optimize database computational load, storage capacity, protocol execution time, and security. Depending on performance and security needs, different protocols can be employed for applications such as private contact discovery.

With the escalation of size and complexity of modern Denial of Service attacks, there is a need for research in the context of Machine Learning (ML) used in attack execution and defense against such attacks. This paper investigates the potential use of ML in generating behavioral telemetry data using Long-Short Term Memory network and spoofing requests for the analyzed traffic to look legitimate. For this research, a custom testing environment was built, that listens for mouse and keyboard events and analyzes them accordingly. While the economic feasibility of this attack currently limits its immediate threat, advancements in technology could make it more cost-effective for attackers in the future. Therefore, proactive development of countermeasures remains essential to mitigate potential risks and stay ahead of evolving attack methods.

The growing shift toward Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions expands the attack surface of systems by connecting an extensive network of heterogeneous devices and technologies. The heterogeneity of IoT devices and the scale of the network often make conventional security measures impractical. Therefore, recent research efforts have focused on machine learning (ML)-based device-agnostic IoT security solutions. However, most proposed solutions have focused solely on detecting malicious traffic in IoT networks. While this is important, further information about the attack is needed to provide a comprehensive defense before, during, and after the incident. To address this gap, we proposed an anomaly-based intrusion detection model that detects malicious traffic and identifies the attack category and subcategory with high accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. The proposed intrusion detection model is an ensemble model that integrates multiple ML models to produce more robust and reliable detections. For evaluation, we performed three sets of experiments: (1) a binary classification to detect malicious traffic; (2) a multi-class classification to detect the attack category; and (3) a multi-class classification to detect the attack subcategory. In the experiments, our model achieved an accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score of 100% for the binary detection; a precision, recall, and F1-score of 99% and an accuracy of 100% for the multi-class category classification; and an accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score of 88% for the multi-class subcategory classification. These results suggest that the proposed model can reliably detect anomalies in IoT devices.

Robotic systems have been widely used in various industries, so the security of communication between robots and their components has become an issue that needs to be focused on. As a framework for developing robotic systems, the security of ROS2 can directly affect the security of the upper-level robotic systems. Therefore, it is a worthwhile research topic to detect and analyze the security of ROS2. In this paper, we adopt a formal approach to analyze the security of the communication mechanism of ROS2. First, we use a state transition system to model the potential vulnerabilities of ROS2 based on the ROS2 communication mechanism and the basic process of penetration testing. Secondly, we introduce the CIA model on the basis of the established vulnerability model and use LTL to define its security properties. Then, we design and implement a vulnerability detection tool for ROS2 applications based on the vulnerability model and security properties. Finally, we experimentally test some ROS2-based applications, and the results show that ROS2 has vulnerabilities without additional protection safeguards.

The IEEE 802.11ah standard is introduced to address the growing scale of Internet of Things (IoT) applications. To reduce contention and enhance energy efficiency within the system, the restricted access window (RAW) mechanism is introduced at the medium access control (MAC) layer to manage the significant number of stations accessing the network. However, the RAW parameters need to be appropriately determined to achieve optimal network performance. In this paper, we optimize the configuration of RAW parameters in the IEEE 802.11ah-based IoT network. We analyze and propose an RAW parameters optimization problem with the objective of improving network throughput and formulate it as a Markov decision process. To cope with the complex and dynamic network conditions, we propose a proximal policy optimization (PPO)-based deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm to find the optimal RAW parameters. We construct network environments with periodic and random traffic in the NS-3 simulator to validate the performance of the proposed PPO-based RAW parameters optimization algorithm. Simulation results reveal that using the PPO-based DRL algorithm, optimal RAW parameters can be obtained under different network conditions, thereby significantly improving network throughput.

In a hyperconnected society, computer networks play a pivotal role in all activities that permeate our daily lives. In the context of smart cities, theses networks play a pivotal role in enhancing urban efficiency and sustainability. The continuous flow of packets in these networks poses security challenges, from personal data leakage to service unavailability. Anomaly-based methods are commonly used to detect network attacks. In this context, Software-Defined Networking (SDN) emerges as a solution for anomaly detection in network traffic, facilitating comprehensive, real-time analyses and dynamic adaptation to changes. This study aims to present a systematic review of feature selection techniques and evaluate the effectiveness of attribute selection with a multi-class classifier in network anomaly detection. The objective of this paper is to inspire future research and identify trade-offs among these techniques for detecting Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. Based on the findings, the analysis of the entire dataset yields superior results in terms of precision (99%), but using the output of OneR, although resulting in a slight loss of precision compared to the complete dataset, presents the highest precision among other studied techniques, indicating a trade-off between precision and processing time efficiency.

Blockchain technology has emerged as a necessity for the decentralization of payment methods and transactions, but it has brought with it many properties of distributed systems that have made it a crucial technology for overcoming some of society's challenges, especially in the context of decentralizing services, transparency of information, availability, and security. Its architecture and communication methods, although possessing some complex nuances to understand, particularly for the lay audience in the field of distributed systems, protocols, and computer networks. In this article, we will explore some topics of distributed systems related to blockchain technology.

Live video streaming has become one of the main multimedia trends in networks in recent years. Providing Quality of Service (QoS) during live transmissions becomes a challenge due to the stringent requirements for low latency and minimal interruptions. This scenario has led to a high dependence on cloud services, implying a widespread usage of Internet connections, which constrains contexts where an Internet connection is not available. Thus, alternatives such as Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) emerge as potential communication techniques. These networks operate autonomously with mobile devices serving as nodes, without the need for coordinating centralized components. However, these characteristics lead to challenges to live-video streaming, such as dynamic node topologies or periods of disconnection. Considering these constraints, this paper investigates the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based classification techniques to provide adaptive streaming in MANETs. For this, a software-driven architecture is proposed to route stream in offline MANETs, predicting the stability of individual links and compressing video frames accordingly. The proposal has been implemented and assessed in a laboratory context, analyzing the model performance and QoS metrics. As a result, the model is implemented in a decision forest algorithm, which provides 95.9% of accuracy. Also, obtained latency values become assumable for video streaming, manifesting a reliable response for routing and node movements.

Sharding shows great potential for extending the blockchain. The current challenge facing sharded blockchain technology lies in addressing the extended transaction confirmation times caused by isolated states between shards and unbalanced transaction allocation strategies. These factors contribute to an increase in cross-shard transactions and disproportionate shard workload, ultimately resulting in indefinite confirmation delays for cross-shard transactions. A critical priority for sharded blockchain systems is to conduct a comprehensive qualitative analysis to better understand and mitigate the prolonged transaction confirmation times. We introduce a Product-Form Queue Network (PFQN) model to address the transaction confirmation time problem in sharded blockchains and incorporate a new confirmation queue to more accurately simulate the actual transaction confirmation process in the blockchain. In addition, we provide a detailed quantitative analysis of the relationship between network load, consensus efficiency, and security in sharded blockchains, laying a theoretical foundation for achieving robustness and efficiency in sharded blockchains. This research not only contributes to addressing the scalability issues in sharded blockchains but also offers a new perspective for future research directions.

High seismic activity in the Himalayas and the increasing urbanization of its surrounding areas in the northern Indian region pose significant threats to both lives and properties. To mitigate the risk of seismic events, an earthquake early warning system can be used in the region. This system would be particularly beneficial to cities and towns in the mountainous and foothill regions that are located near earthquake sources. The government and the science and engineering community have re-sponded to this call by establishing the Uttarakhand State Earthquake Early Warning System (UEEWS). The system became fully operational on August 4, 2021, after being launched by the government of Uttarakhand. The UEEWS includes 170 accelerometers in the seismogenic part of the Uttarakhand region of the Himalayas. Ground motion data is transmitted to a central server through a dedicated private telecommunication network 24 hours a day, seven days a week.The system is designed to issue warnings for moderate to high-magnitude earthquakes via a mobile application installed on users' devices and sirens installed in government-owned public buildings. The UEEWS has successfully issued alerts for light earthquakes that occurred in the instrumented region and warnings for moderate earthquakes that occurred in the vicinity of the instrumented area. This paper provides an overview of the design of the UEEWS, details of the instrumentation, adaptation of attributes and their relation to earthquake parameters, the operational flow of the system, and information about the dissemination of warnings

Cellular Technology came into existence in Japan in 1979. From that time, we have seen many advances in technology. Currently, most of the person uses either 4G or 5G, among which 5G is a newer technology. 4G network was the first network to use LTE. LTE stands for Long Term Evaluation. Most people get confused between 4G and LTE, they assume both to be the same. In reality, LTE has evolved on the 4G technology. It was first introduced in 2008 to provide higher efficiency and data rates to the cellular network. It was designed to evolve the performance of the networks which includes the evolution of hardware components, optimization of software, power and cost efficiency. This work presents a study on LTE, LTE-A and VoLTE technology. We also discussed about the several packet scheduling algorithms that are being used for transmission of packets. It brings out new opportunities for the researchers to work on increasing the efficiency of those algorithms by modifications.

With the rapid development of intelligent transportation, Vehicle Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) is becoming increasingly important.As a critical component of intelligent transportation systems, the Conditional Privacy-Preserving Authentication (CPPA) scheme plays a significant role in ensuring drivers' privacy and security.However, current CPPA schemes still face limitations in terms of security and efficiency, with these schemes either imposing higher computational overhead for enhanced security or compromising some level of security to reduce overhead. Motivated by this challenge, we propose a CPPA scheme that strikes a better balance between efficiency and security.By leveraging the token mechanism to achieve multiple authentication and minimizing information leakage. Furthermore, our performance analysis demonstrates that our ECC-based algorithm can significantly reduce overhead, with pseudonymous generation requiring only 0.0039ms.

Wireless Sensor Networks are critical for modern applications ranging from environmental monitoring to smart city infrastructures. This research proposes a novel optimization learning and deployment strategy for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) by 3D WUSN model is uniformly distributed M sensor nodes across diverse terrains, with clusters representing 20% of sensors, showcasing its ability to balance power consumption and extend network longevity, grounded in fuzzy clustering based protocol using the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) method, called FCM-3DWUSN. Comparative analysis against established models including LEACH-C, K-Means and LEACH emphasized FCM-3DWUSN's outperformed performance, with average power consumption such as 134.990, 341.790, 143.895, and 192.984; respectively. The experimental result shows that FCM protocol in the 3D WUSN model can reduce energy consumption and improve the network lifetime to gather data and send the information.

The next-generation "Industrial Internet of Things" (IIoT) will support "Machine-to-Machine" (M2M) communications for smart Cyber-Physical-Systems and Industry 4.0, and require guaranteed cyber-security. This paper explores hardware-enforced cyber-security for critical infrastructures. It examines a Quantum-Safe "Software-Defined Deterministic IIoT" (SDD-IIoT), with a new forwarding-plane (sub-layer-3a) for deterministic M2M traffic flows. A "Software-Defined-Networking" (SDN) control-plane controls many "SDD Wide Area Networks" (SDD-WANs), realized with FPGAs. The SDN control-plane provides an "Admission-Control/Access-Control" system for network-bandwidth, using collaborating Artificial Intelligence (AI) rule-based "Zero Trust Architectures" (ZTAs). Hardware-enforced access-control eliminates all congestion, BufferBloat, and DoS/DDoS attacks in the forwarding-plane, reduces buffer-sizes by 100,000+ times, and supports ultra-reliable and uItra-low-latency communications in the SDD-WANs. The SDD-WANs can: (i) Encrypt/Authenticate M2M flows using Quantum-Safe ciphers, to withstand attacks by Quantum Computers; (ii) Implement "Guaranteed Intrusion Detection Systems" in FPGAs, to detect cyber-attacks embedded within billions of IIoT packets/second; (iii) Provide guaranteed immunity to external cyber-attacks against critical infrastructure, and exceptionally-strong immunity to internal cyber-attacks; (iv) Save $US100s of billions annually by exploiting FPGAs; and (v) Enable "Quantum Key Distribution" (QKD) Networks by providing a programmable forwarding-plane with "authenticated classical channels" and full-immunity to DoS/DDoS attacks. Extensive experimental results for an SDD-WAN over the European Union are reported.

The management of large medical files is a critical challenge in the health sector. Conventional systems have security, scalability, and efficiency deficiencies. This project proposes a hybrid architecture between blockchain and cloud computing to address these challenges. Blockchain ensures the immutability and traceability of medical records, while the cloud allows scalable and efficient storage. Together, these technologies can transform data management in electronic health record applications. The essential objective of this research is to thoroughly look at the existing strategies, devices, and conventions that encourage a secure interaction between blockchain applications and the cloud. Special emphasis is set on maintaining the integrity and security of the blockchain while tackling the potential and efficiency of cloud infrastructures. Through a meticulous investigation of these approaches, along with their successful usage and encountered challenges, this paper offers a comprehensive overview of the present state of this integration. Altogether, this paper does not propose new concepts or developments. Its central focus is to provide a comprehensive and insightful examination of the modern landscape concerning the integration of blockchain and cloud advances. By shedding light on the existing approaches and assessing their viability, this work aims to highlight the current challenges and build up a solid establishment for future development. This, in turn, will cultivate a consistent integration of blockchain security with the dynamic potential of cloud computing while guaranteeing information integrity and security remain uncompromised. In conclusion, this paper serves as a important resource for analysts, specialists, and partners looking for to dig into and development the integration of blockchain and cloud innovations, subsequently contributing to a more secure and productive cloud environment.

Software-defined networking (SDN) divides a traditional network into a programmable data plane and a centralized control plane. This technology is expected to transform traditional network companies that provide flexible and intelligent network operations. The core component utilized to oversee every data plane action is the controller in the control plane. In order to achieve optimal performances, the controller’s performance and capabilities are therefore crucial. There are lots of controller research available in existing literature. Nevertheless, no qualitative comparison study of OpenFlow-enabled distributed but logically centralized controllers exists for them. This article also includes a quantitative investigation of the performance of several distributed but logically centralized SDN controllers in custom network scenarios using Mininet, as well as a thorough qualitative comparison of them. More precisely, we give a qualitative evaluation of their attributes and classify and categorize 13 distributed but logically centralized SDN controllers according to their capabilities. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive SDN emulation tool called Mininet-based SDN controller performance assessment in this study. Using six performance metrics—bandwidth, round- trip time, delay, jitter, packet loss, and throughput—this work also assesses five distributed but logically centralized controllers against two custom network scenarios (uniform and non-uniform host distribution). Our investigation shows that the OpenDayLight controller performs the best across all performance criteria, with the exception of delay, packet loss and round trip time, where the Ryu controller excels. In the entire experiment, the HyperFlow and ONOS controller performs the worst in terms of all performance metrics. Finally, we discuss detailed research findings on the performance. These experimental results provide a decision-making guideline when selecting a controller.

In recent years, semantic communication has received significant attention from both academia and industry, driven by the growing demands for ultra-low latency and high-throughput capabilities in emerging intelligent services. Nonetheless, a comprehensive and effective theoretical framework for semantic communication has yet to be established. In particular, finding the fundamental limits of semantic communication, exploring the capabilities of semantic-aware networks, or utilizing theoretical guidance for deep learning in semantic communication are very important yet still unresolved issues. In general, the mathematical theory of semantic communication and the mathematical representation of semantics are referred to as semantic information theory. In this paper, we introduce the pertinent advancements in semantic information theory. Grounded in the foundational work of Claude Shannon, we present the latest developments in semantic entropy, semantic rate-distortion, and semantic channel capacity. Additionally, we analyze some open problems in semantic information measurement and semantic coding, providing a theoretical basis for the design of a semantic communication system. Furthermore, we carefully review several mathematical theories and tools and evaluate their applicability in the context of semantic communication. Finally, we shed light on the challenges encountered in both semantic communication and semantic information theory.

A Digital Twin (DT) refers to a virtual representation or digital replica of a physical object, system, process, or entity. This concept involves creating a detailed, real-time digital counterpart that mimics the behavior, characteristics, and attributes of its physical counterpart. DTs have the potential to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance decision-making by providing a detailed, real-time understanding of the physical systems they represent. While this technology is finding application in numerous fields, such as energy, healthcare, transportation, it appears to be a key component of the digital transformation of industries. In this paper, we present the research results achieved by IoTwins, a European research project aimed at investigating opportunities and issues of adopting DTs in the fields of industrial manufacturing and facility management. Particularly, we discuss a DT model and a reference architecture for use by the research community to implement a platform for the development and deployment of industrial DTs in the cloud continuum. Guided by the devised architectures’ principles, we implemented an open platform and a development methodology to help companies build DT-based industrial applications and deploy them in the so-called Edge/Cloud continuum. To prove the research value and the usability of the implemented platform, we discuss a simple yet practical development use case.

The escalating reliance of modern society on information and communication technology has rendered it vulnerable to an array of cyber-attacks, with distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) at-tacks emerging as one of the most prevalent threats. This paper delves into the intricacies of DDoS attacks, which exploit compromised machines numbering in the thousands or more to disrupt data services and online commercial platforms, resulting in significant downtime and financial losses. Recognizing the gravity of this issue, various detection techniques have been explored, yet the quantitative and prior detection of DDoS attacks has seen a decline in recent methods. This research introduces an innovative approach by integrating evolutionary optimization algorithms and machine learning techniques. Specifically, the study proposes XGB-GA Optimization, RF-GA Optimization, and SVM-GA Optimization methods, employing Evolutionary Algorithms Opti-mization with TOPOT-Genetic Programming. Datasets pertaining to DDoS attacks were utilized to train machine learning models based on XGB, RF, and SVM algorithms, and 10-fold cross-validation was employed. The models were further optimized using evolutionary algo-rithms, achieving remarkable accuracy scores: 99.99% with the XGB-GA method, 99.50% with RF-GA, and 99.99% with SVM-GA. Furthermore, the study employed TPOT to identify the optimal algorithm for constructing a machine learning model, with the genetic algorithm pinpointing XGB-GA as the most effective choice. This research significantly advances the field of DDoS attack detection by presenting a robust and accurate methodology, thereby enhancing the cybersecurity landscape and fortifying digital infrastructures against these pervasive threats.

Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) constitute the most valuable aspect of Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI). However, TTPs are often implicit in unstructured text, necessitating manual analysis by field experts. Automating the classification of TTPs from unstructured text is a crucial task in contemporary research. MITRE ATT&CK serves as the de facto standard for studying TTPs. Existing research constructs classification datasets based on its procedural examples for tactics and techniques. However, due to a significant proportion of small sample categories, a long-tail phenomenon exists, leading to a highly imbalanced sample distribution. Consequently, more research concentrates on categories with relatively abundant samples. This paper proposes a method that combines ChatGPT data augmentation with Instruction Supervised Fine-Tuning of open large language models. This approach offers a solution for TTPs classification in few-shot learning scenarios, achieving coverage of 625 technical categories. The Precision, Recall, and F1 scores reach 86.2%, 89.9%, and 87.3%, respectively.

Over the past decade, there has been a remarkable acceleration in the evolution of smart cities and intelligent spaces, driven by breakthroughs in technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), edge-fog-cloud computing, and machine learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI). As society begins to harness the full potential of these smart environments, the horizon brightens with the promise of an immersive, interconnected 3D world. The forthcoming paradigm shift in how we live, work, and interact owes much to groundbreaking innovations in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), Blockchain, and Digital Twins (DT). However, realizing the expansive digital vista in our daily lives is challenging. Current limitations include an incomplete integration of pivotal techniques, daunting bandwidth requirements, and the critical need for near-instantaneous data transmission, all impeding the digital VR Metaverse from fully manifesting as envisioned by its proponents. This paper seeks to delve deeply into the intricacies of the immersive, interconnected 3D realm, particularly in applications demanding high levels of intelligence. Specifically, this paper introduces Microverse, a task-oriented, edge-scale, pragmatic solution for smart cities. Unlike an all-encompassing Metaverses, each Microverse instance serves a specific task as a manageable digital twin of an individual network slice. Each Microverse enables on-site/near-site data processing, information fusion, and real-time decision-making within the edge-fog-cloud computing framework. The Microverse concept is verified using smart public safety surveillance (SPSS) for smart communities as a case study, demonstrating its feasibility in practical smart city applications. The aim is to stimulate discussions and inspire fresh ideas in our community, guiding us as we navigate the evolving digital landscape of smart cities to embrace the potential of the Metaverse.

While current video quality assessment research predominantly revolves around resolutions of 4K and beyond, targeted at Ultra High-Definition (UHD) displays, effective video quality for mobile video streaming remains primarily within the range of 480p to 1080p. In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of the Quality of Experience (QoE) for widely implemented video codecs on mobile devices, specifically Advanced Video Coding (AVC), its successor High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), and Google's VP9. Our choice of 720p video sequences from a newly developed database, all with identical bitrates, aimed to maintain a manageable subjective assessment duration, capped at 35-40 minutes. To mimic real-time network conditions, we generated stimuli by streaming original video clips over a controlled emulated setup, subjecting them to eight different packet loss scenarios. We evaluated the quality and structural similarity of the distorted video clips using objective metrics, including Video Quality Metric (VQM), Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Video Multi-Method Assessment Fusion (VMAF), and Multi-Scale Structural Similarity Index (MS-SSIM). Subsequently, we collected subjective ratings through a custom mobile application developed for Android devices. Our findings revealed that VMAF accurately represents the degradation in video quality compared to other metrics. Moreover, in most cases, HEVC exhibits an advantage over both AVC and VP9 under low packet loss scenarios. However, it is noteworthy that in our test cases, AVC outperformed HEVC and VP9 in scenarios with high packet loss, based on both subjective and objective assessments. Our observations further indicate that user preferences for the presented content contribute to video quality ratings, emphasizing the importance of additional factors that influence the perceived video quality of end-users.

Considering the spectrum shortage problem of IoT devices, we introduce a collaborative spectrum sensing (CSS) framework in this paper to identify available spectrum resources, so that IoT devices can access it and meanwhile avoid causing harmful interference to the normal communication of the primary user (PU). However, in the process of the PU’s signal detection in IoT devices, the issue about the stopping time and decision cost arises. To this end, we propose a distributed cognitive IoT model, which includes two IoT devices independently using sequential decision rules to detect the PU. On this basis, we define the stopping time and cost function for IoT devices, and formulate an average cost optimization problem in CSS. To solve this problem, we further regard the optimal stopping time problem as a finite horizon problem, and solve the threshold of the optimal decision rule by dynamic programming. At last, numerical simulation results demonstrate the correctness of our proposal in terms of the global false alarm and miss detection probability, and it always achieves minimal average cost under various cost of each observation taken and thresholds.

RFID based technology innovated a new field of wireless sensing, which has been applied in posture recognition, object localization and the other sensing fields, the existing sensing methods often require tags to be attached to dynamic targets (because RFID signals are more sensitive to moving target), significantly limiting their applications. It is a challenging task to sensing a static target without tag attached in NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight). We utilized RFID technologies to sense the static foreign objects in agricultural products, and taken metal, rock, rubber and clod as sensing targets that are common in agricultural. By deploying a tag matrices to create a sensing region, we observed the signal variations before and after the appearance of the targets in this sensing region, determined the targets’ positions and their types. Here, we buried the targets in the media of seedless cotton and wheat, and detected static targets with a non-contact method in the NLOS. Researches illustrated that by deploying appropriate tag matrices and adjusting the angle of a single RFID antenna, the matrices signals can be sensitive to the static targets’ positions and their properties,i.e. matrices signals vary with different targets and their positions. Specifically, we achieved a 100% success rate in locating metallic targets, while the success rate for clods was the lowest at 86%. We achieved a 100% recognition rate for the types of all the four objects.

Resource pricing in cloud computing has become one of the main challenges for cloud providers. The challenge is determining a fair and appropriate price to satisfy users and resource providers. To determine a fair price, it is necessary to consider the conditions and needs of both parties: provider and user. This research tries to provide a pricing mechanism for cloud computing based on game theory. The proposed mechanism takes into account three factors including fault possibility, interaction between virtual machines, and energy consumption to reach a fair price. In the proposed game, the provider decides on the price of the virtual machine which can be offered to the user on each physical machine and the user decides between the virtual machines offered to run its application. The whole game is implemented as a function of the resource broker component. The proposed mechanism is simulated and evaluated using the CloudSim simulator. Its performance is compared with several previous recent mechanisms. According to the results, the proposed mechanism has been able to determine a more reasonable price for the user and the provider which increases the overall profitability of the cloud system.

Ensuring the security of vertical applications in fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication systems and previous generations is crucial. These systems must prioritize maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of services and data. Examples of vertical applications include smart cities, smart transportation, public services, Industry 4.0, smart grids, smart health, and smart agriculture. Each vertical application has specific security requirements and faces unique threats within the mobile network environment. Thus, it is essential to implement comprehensive and robust security measures. This approach helps minimize the attack surface and effectively manage risks. This survey thoroughly examines mobile networks and their security challenges in vertical applications, shedding light on associated threats and potential solutions. Our study considers the interplay between security considerations in 5G, legacy networks, and vertical applications. We emphasize the challenges, opportunities, and promising directions for future research in this field and the importance of securing vertical applications in the evolving landscape of mobile technology.

Due to the advancement and availability of internet in present age, device tend to become wireless as well. Mobile ad-hoc network is a wireless environment that consist of advanced agility of nodes and does not contain on any central administrative authority. As it does not contain any central administrative authority so being wireless environment, the network is vulnerable to security threats and suffers in performance as well. Security of MANET is the core issue in this era, meanwhile the data is sent over untrustworthy network. Several techniques were proposed to secure data over Mobile Adhoc Network though cryptography that is one of the most reliable techniques to protect data. In our proposed methodology a Secure Cryptographic technique for Mobile Adhoc Networks (SCTMA) we proposed A Collusion attack prevention (CAP) scheme with ElGamal key generator along with DNA encryption Algorithm is used to make it more secure. The proposed scheme protects the network against collusion attacks and improves the performance as well. Performance analysis will be measured on the basis of key generation time, response time, encryption time and decryption time. The proposed scheme also protects the network against collusion attacks.

This study presents an in-depth analysis and evaluation of self-healing networks as an innovative solution to combat the escalating threat of ransomware attacks. Recognizing the limitations of traditional network security methods in the face of advanced cyber threats, the research focuses on the development and implementation of self-healing networks, characterized by their dynamic, intelligent response systems. Utilizing a combination of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, these networks demonstrate remarkable adaptability and resilience. Through rigorous simulations, the study examines the efficacy of self-healing networks in detecting, isolating, and recovering from ransomware attacks, with an emphasis on their ability to learn and evolve from each incident. The research highlights the strengths and limitations of these networks and discusses their potential applications in various sectors. The findings suggest that self-healing networks, with their proactive and adaptive defense mechanisms, represent a significant advancement in cybersecurity strategies, offering a robust solution against a range of cyber threats. Future work is recommended to further enhance the capabilities of self-healing networks, particularly in the areas of speed, detection accuracy, and quantum-resistant security measures.

The rapid growth of equipment tasks in 5G large-scale machine-type communication scenarios presents challenges due to user equipment’s (UE) limited computing power and power constraints. To address these limitations, task offloading to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has gained attention. However, traditional cloud computing centres far from the UE fail to meet latency requirements. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) emerges as a solution by deploying computing servers at the edge of the cellular network to enhance service responsiveness. However, traditional MEC solutions need more flexibility. This paper explores the advantages of UAVs, including flexibility and rapid deployment, and considers UAV power constraints. It proposes a joint optimization approach for user offloading strategies and UAV trajectories to minimize the overall energy consumption of UE. By leveraging the benefits of UAVs and MEC, the proposed method aims to improve task execution efficiency in energy-constrained 5G machine-type communication scenarios.

To facilitate wireless communication, ocean exploration, and various environmental and research applications, the underwater Internet of Things has been developed with an infrastructure of acoustic sensor networks. There has been a significant increase in failures and a decrease in the efficiency of the network due to the fluid and challenging underwater environment. Consequently, achieving quality of service (QoS) in underwater networks remains a research area. Supporting QoS in underwater sensor networks is challenging due to resource limitations such as processing power, memory, bandwidth, and power sources. The purpose of this study was to examine the service quality requirements as well as protocols that have been implemented in recent years. Finally, based on quality criteria, we have presented a routing solution based on fuzzy logic, which is more efficient than other recent methods regarding energy consumption rate, JFI, efficiency, and reliability.

In the heterogeneous wireless networked control system (WNCS), age of information (AoI) of the actuation update and actuation update cost are important performance metrics. To reduce the monetary cost, the control system can wait for the availability of WiFi network of the actuator and then conduct the update by using WiFi network in an opportunistic manner, but it leads to the increased AoI of the actuation update. To assess this problem, this paper proposes a priority-aware actuation update scheme (PAUS) where the control system decides whether to deliver or delay the actuation update to the actuator by considering the control priority (i.e., robustness of AoI of the actuation update). For the optimal decision, we formulate a Markov decision process model and derive the optimal policy based on Q-learning. Simulation results demonstrate that PAUS outperforms the comparison schemes in terms of the expected reward.

Oceans cover about 70% of the Earth's surface, and about 95% remain unexplored for various reasons. Underwater wireless communication has been revolutionised with the help of Internet of Things networks. Recently, applications such as collecting marine data, marine monitoring, disaster prevention, historical exploration, oil and gas exploration, shipwreck exploration, maritime security, and monitoring of aquatic species and water pollution, and several applications have become possible. However, the problem of routing, information transfer, and resource preservation in the fluid underwater environment remains unsolved. In this research, we were looking for a solution to make routing more efficient, considering the various and practical criteria for the quality of service of the underwater IoT network. One of the outstanding features of this research is the possibility of dynamically weighing the parameters involved in routing and taking optimal and distributed decisions between network components. The proposed method has achieved acceptable results in terms of quality of service compared to recent methods.
