Image denoising has been one of the important problems in the field of computer vision, and it has a wide range of practical value in many applications, such as medical image processing, image enhancement, and computational photography. Traditional image denoising methods are usually based on hand-designed features and filters, but these methods perform poorly under complex noise and image structures. In recent years, the rapid development of neural network technology has revolutionized the image-denoising task. This paper introduces the knowledge about neural networks and image denoising, explores the impact of neural networks on image denoising, and how is it possible to denoise images by neural networks. It also summarises other image-denoising methods and finally points out the challenges and problems faced by image-denoising at present. Some possible new development directions are proposed to provide new solutions for image-denoising researchers and to promote the development of the field.

In this paper, the filtering method of biomedical image denoising is described comprehensively. Firstly, it introduces the biomedical image denoising, describes the relationship between biomedical image denoising and medical care, introduces the filtering methods, the filtering methods of biomedical image denoising, the challenges encountered by the current filtering methods, and other application fields of filtering methods. Firstly, the background of biomedical image denoising is introduced. Biomedical image denoising is a challenge. Different imaging modes have different noise characteristics, and noise levels can vary greatly depending on the specific application. Secondly, it describes that biomedical image denoising plays an important role in medical care, and the biomedical image directly affects the patient's diagnosis, treatment plan and the overall quality of medical care service. Then the filtering method is introduced in detail, describing the core concepts and related features of linear filtering, nonlinear filtering and frequency domain filtering, and then focusing on the adaptive filtering method, describing the characteristics, conditions of use, common algorithms and advantages of adaptive filtering method. Then the filter methods of biomedical image denoising are introduced, and the core concepts of Gaussian filter, median filter, total variation denoising and Wiener filter are introduced respectively. Then, the challenges encountered by filtering methods are described, such as the accurate selection of filters, the balance between noise reduction and image detail preservation are introduced. Finally, the application of filtering method in other fields is mentioned, such as audio processing, speech recognition and so on. In summary, this paper comprehensively expounds the denoising and filtering methods of biomedical images, the filtering methods of medical image denoising, the relationship between medical image denoising and medical care, and the challenges encountered by filtering methods.

Guided image filter implicitly balances noise and details based on local variance, achieving noise suppression while preserving prominent edges. However, we have observed limitations in using variance to distinguish between noise and image details, resulting in the suppression of fine structures alongside noise. Furthermore, the goal of enhancing image details, which is crucial in image filtering, has not been adequately addressed in edge-preserving filter design. In this paper, we approach image filtering as a problem of spectral energy reconfiguration, where the gain of each spectral band is adaptively regulated to achieve simultaneous noise suppression and detail enhancement. Instead of relying on variance, we employ a linear noise estimator to obtain the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) measurement necessary for dynamic gain regulation. Similar to the guided image filter, we determine the filter coefficients by solving the closed-form solution of the optimizer. We demonstrate that the proposed extended guided filter effectively integrates information from multiple spectral bands locally, allowing for the joint enhancement of meaningful details while simultaneously smoothing noise.

A method for noise reduction of spectra based on fitting a multi-window model is presented. The spectrum is modeled as the sum of the polynomial background and Lorentzian peaks. This model applies to all points in the spectrum and to all window sizes. An iterative algorithm is used for fitting. Based on the initial data, the background calculated by the direct least squares method is subtracted. Positive data values ​​are inverted using the 1/x function and the same procedure is used to fit the Lorentzian peaks. The weighted sum of all windows fit containing the point to be processed is used as the result. The weighting factors are calculated by evaluating the quality of the fit. The performance of the presented method is compared with the Savitsky-Golay method and the wavelet noise reduction method. The proposed approach provides good noise reduction performance without using user-entered parameters.

A method for noise reduction of spectra based on the adaptive application of the Savitsky-Golay polynomial filter is presented. A polynomial approximation is calculated at all points of the spectrum and for all window sizes. The weighted sum of all polynomials containing the point to be processed is used as the result. The weighting factors are calculated by evaluating the quality of the fit. This paper proposes two evaluation functions. The performance of the presented method is compared with the Savitsky-Golay method and the wavelet noise reduction method. The proposed approach provides good noise reduction performance without using user-entered parameters.

In this paper we develop a forecasting algorithm for recurrent patterns in consumer demand. We study this problem in two different settings: pull and push models. We discuss several features of the algorithm concerning sampling, periodic approximation, denoising and forecasting.

The guided ultrasonic wave (GUW) is extensively employed in non-destructive testing (NDT) for the purpose of detecting defects in aerospace vehicles, oil pipelines and mechanical equipment. The filtration of GUW signals, which often contain substantial environmental noise, is a crucial procedure in signal processing. This paper presents a novel denoising approach that combines Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) with an enhanced Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). The VMD method is employed to preprocess the initial signal, thereby segregating the signal component from the noise component. Subsequently, the SampEn-SVD (Sample Entropy-SVD) method is utilized to extract the effective component from the VMD-preprocessed noise component. Finally, the VMD-preprocessed signal component and the SampEn-SVD-processed effective component are combined to yield the resultant signal, which effectively filters out the noise. The efficacy of this integrated denoising approach is substantiated through the examination of experimental signals. Furthermore, a comparative analysis is conducted to evaluate the efficacy of this method in relation to other denoising techniques. The results indicate that the SampEn-SVD method yields a superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) when processing the GUW signal transmitted through the steel strand. Moreover, the denoising procedure significantly reduces the discretization of characteristic parameters in the signal waveform, thereby addressing the issue of inadequate reproducibility in testing outcomes. Consequently, the denoised signal exhibits high fidelity and demonstrates a strong correlation between its combined eigenvector and strand stress.

This paper explores the application of wavelet analysis, a multiscale approach for enhancing visual clarity, in the context of image denoising, which reduces the impact of noisy pixels, caused by various factors such as electronic sensor limitations, low-light conditions, or transmission errors in digital imaging systems. This paper introduces some common noise types like Gaussian noise and processes of image denoising, eliciting the strength of wavelet analysis. As a powerful image denoising technology, wavelet analysis needs five steps to process the image, and the key step is thresholding. There are many kinds of wavelet, and each wavelet has different advantages and functions, which makes it suitable for different applications. Hence, wavelet analysis also makes a contribution in various fields beyond signal processing and data analysis, such as Biomedical Imaging and Geophysics and Seismology, where preserving image quality is essential for accurate analysis and interpretation. In short, this research highlights the promise of wavelet analysis, emphasizing the use of high- quality image data.

An algorithm for the treatment of images affected by both blurring and salt&pepper noise is proposed with a cost only proportional to the number of pixels. The methodology uses a discretization scheme for the Laplace operator multiplied by a suitable nonlinear term depending on the gradient. Even if this approach resembles a diffusion type algorithm, only one step of the procedure is applied, leading to significant time savings. The procedure is successfully tested on some standard black&white natural images.

Wi-Fi based localization has become one of the most practical methods for mobile users in location-based services. However, due to the interference of multipath and high-dimensional sparseness of fingerprint data, the localization system based on received signal strength (RSS) is hard to obtain high accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel indoor positioning method, named JLGBMLoc (Joint denoising auto-encoder with LightGBM Localization). Firstly, because the noise and outliers may influence the dimensionality reduction on high-dimensional sparseness fingerprint data, we propose a novel feature extraction algorithm, named joint denoising auto-encoder (JDAE), which reconstructs the sparseness fingerprint data for a better feature representation and restores the fingerprint data. Then, the LightGBM is introduced to the Wi-Fi localization by scattering the processed fingerprint data to histogram, and dividing the decision tree under leaf-wise algorithm with depth limitation. At last, we evaluated the proposed JLGBMLoc on UJIIndoorLoc dataset and Tampere dataset, experimental results show that the proposed model increases the positioning accuracy dramatically comparing with other existing methods.

Vibration signal analysis is regarded as a fundamental approach in diagnosing faults in rolling bearings, and recent advancements have shown notable progress in this domain. However, the presence of substantial background noise often results in the masking of these fault signals, posing a significant challenge for researchers. In response, an Adaptive Denoising Autoencoder (ADAE) approach is proposed in this paper. The data representations are learned by the encoder through convolutional layers, while the data reconstruction is performed by the decoder using deconvolutional layers. Both the encoder and decoder incorporate adaptive shrinkage units to simulate denoising functions, effectively removing interfering information while preserving sensitive fault features. Additionally, dropout regularization is applied to sparsify the network and prevent overfitting, thereby enhancing the overall expressive power of the model. To further enhance ADAE's noise resistance, shortcut connections are added. Evaluation using publicly available datasets under scenarios with known and unknown noise demonstrates that ADAE effectively enhances the signal-to-noise ratio in strongly noisy backgrounds, facilitating accurate diagnosis of faults in rolling bearings.

To assess the impact of a deep learning (DL) denoising reconstruction algorithm applied to identical patient scans acquired with two different voxel dimensions, representing distinct spatial resolutions. This IRB approved prospective study was conducted at a tertiary pediatric center in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. We used a General Electric Signa Premier unit (GE Medical Systems, Milwaukee, WI) to acquire two DTI sequences of the left knee on each child at 3T: an in-plane 2.0 x 2.0 mm2 with section thickness of 3.0 mm and a 2 mm3 isovolumetric voxel, neither had an inter-section gap. We used a multi-band DTI acquisi-tion with fat-suppressed single-shot spin-echo echo-planar sequence (20 non-collinear directions; b-values of 0 and 600 sec/mm2). The MR vendor-provided a commercially available DL model applied with 75% noise reduction settings to same subject DTI sequences at different spatial res-olutions. We compared DTI tract metrics from both DL-reconstructed scans and non-denoised scans for femur and tibia, at each spatial resolution. Differences were evaluated using Wilcox-on-signed ranked test and Bland-Altman plots. EMG analysis is becoming increasingly important in many research and clinical applications, including muscle fatigue detection, control of robotic mechanisms and prostheses, clinical diagnosis of neuromuscular diseases and quantification of force. However, electromyographic signals can be contaminated by various types of noise, interference and artifacts, which can lead to misinterpretation of the data acquired using this method. Even assuming best practices, the collected signal may still be altered by such contaminants. The aim of this paper is to review methods employed to reduce contamination of single channel EMG signals. This review is limited to methods performed directly on the measured EMG signal and those that allow total reconstruction of the EMG signal. Subtraction methods used in the time domain, denoising methods performed after signal decomposition and hybrid methods are assessed. It is defended that individual methods may be more or less suitable for a particular application depending on contaminant(s) present in the signal and on the specific requirements of the application.

One of the main issues for underwater robots navigation is represented by the accurate vehicle positioning, which heavily depends on the orientation estimation phase. The systems employed to this scope are affected by different noise typologies, mainly related to the sensors and to the irregular noise of the underwater environment. Filtering algorithms can reduce their effect if opportunely configured, but this process usually requires fine techniques and time. This paper presents DANAE++, an improved denoising autoencoder based on DANAE, which is able to recover Kalman Filter IMU/AHRS orientation estimations from any kind of noise, independently of its nature. This deep learning-based architecture already proved to be robust and reliable, but in its enhanced implementation significant improvements are obtained both in terms of results and performance. In fact, DANAE++is able to denoise the three angles describing the attitude at the same time, and that is verified also on the estimations provided by the more performing Extended KF. Further tests could make this method suitable for real-time applications on navigation tasks.

Against the backdrop of the current carbon peaking and carbon neutrality policies, higher requirements have been put forward for the upgrading and construction of smart grids. Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) technology is a key technology for advanced measurement systems at the end of the power grid. It obtains detailed power information of the load, without the need for traditional hardware deployment. The key step to solve this problem is load decomposition and identification. This paper first utilized Long Short Term Memory-Denoising Autoencoder(LSTM-DAE) to decompose the mixed current signal on the household busbar and obtain the current signals of multiple independent loads that constituted the mixed current. Then, the obtained independent current signals were combined with voltage signals to generate multi-cycle colored Voltage-Current(VI) trajectories, which were color-coded according to the background. These colored VI trajectories with background colors formed a feature library. When the CNN network was used for load recognition, considering the influence of hyperparameters on recognition results, the BOA algorithm was used for optimization, and the optimized CNN network was employed for VI trajectory recognition. Finally, the proposed method was validated using the PLAID dataset. Experimental results showed that the proposed method exhibited better performance in load decomposition and identification.

As a fast and nondestructive spectroscopic analysis technique, Raman spectroscopy has been widely applied in chemistry. However, noise is usually unavoidable in Raman spectra. Hence, denoising is an important step before Raman spectral analysis. A novel spectral denoising method based on variational mode decomposition (VMD) was introduced to solve the above problem. The spectrum is decomposed into a series of modes (uk) by VMD. Then, the high frequency noise modes are removed and the remaining modes are reconstructed to obtain the denoised spectrum. The proposed method was verified by two artificial noised signals and two actual Raman spectra. As comparison, empirical mode decomposition (EMD), Savitzky-Golay (SG) smoothing and discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) are also investigated. At the same time, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was introduced as evaluation indicators to verify the performance of the proposed method. The results show that compared with EMD, VMD can significantly improve mode mixing and endpoint effect. Some information of the small sharp peak is lost after VMD denoising. However, VMD lost fewer information than that of EMD, SG smoothing and DWT. Moreover, the Raman spectrum by VMD denoising is more excellent than that of EMD, SG smoothing and DWT in terms of visualization and SNR. Therefore, VMD provides superior denoising capabilities for Raman spectra.

Variational mode decomposition (VMD) is a recently introduced adaptive signal decomposition algorithm with a solid theoretical foundation and good noise robustness compared with empirical mode decomposition (EMD). There is a lot of background noise in the vibration signal of diesel engine. To solve the problem, a denoising algorithm based on VMD and Euclidean Distance is proposed. Firstly, a multi-component, non-Gauss, and noisy simulation signal is established, and decomposed into a given number K of band-limited intrinsic mode functions by VMD. Then the Euclidean distance between the probability density function of each mode and that of the simulation signal are calculated. The signal is reconstructed using the relevant modes, which are selected on the basis of noticeable similarities between the probability density function of the simulation signal and that of each mode. Finally, the vibration signals of diesel engine connecting rod bearing faults are analyzed by the proposed method. The results show that compared with other denoising algorithms, the proposed method has better denoising effect, and the fault characteristics of vibration signals of diesel engine connecting rod bearings can be effectively enhanced.

Traditional computer vision techniques aim to extract meaningful information from images but often depend on manual feature engineering, making it difficult to handle complex real-world scenarios. Fractional Calculus (FC), which extends derivatives to non-integer orders, provides a flexible way to model systems with memory effects and long-term dependencies, making it a powerful tool for capturing fractional rates of variation. Recently, Neural Networks (NNs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in learning complex patterns directly from raw data, automating computer vision tasks and enhancing performance. Therefore, the use of fractional calculus in neural network-based computer vision is a powerful method to address existing challenges by effectively capturing complex spatial and temporal relationships in images and videos. This paper presents a survey of Fractional Calculus Neural Network-based (FC NN-based) computer vision techniques for denoising, enhancement, object detection, segmentation, restoration, and NN compression. The survey compiles existing FFC NN-based approaches, elucidates underlying concepts, and identifies open questions and research directions. By leveraging FC's properties, FC NN-based approaches offer a novel way to improve the robustness and efficiency of computer vision systems.

This study investigates the suitability of the timestamp approach algorithm for predicting blood pressure (BP) using wearable and comfortable devices, showcasing its accuracy even with low-frequency sampled signals. Developed within the SINTEC European project, the algorithm utilizes Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensors, demonstrating promising results in both laboratory and hospital settings. The research emphasizes the algorithm’s potential to transform continuous and non-invasive BP monitoring through wearable technology, offering frequent measurements with minimal discomfort. While the study shows promise, further exploration is needed, focusing on optimizing machine learning coefficients for long-term monitoring applications and addressing potential changes over time. Technological improvements, including the implementation of edge computing algorithms, hold the key to enhancing BP accuracy, denoising techniques, and integrating alarm systems for future wearable solutions. This study emphasizes the adaptability of the algorithm for diverse healthcare environments, paving the way for broader applications in convenient and reliable BP monitoring.

Urban rail transit offers advantages like high safety, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness. With cities rapidly expanding, travelers are increasingly using rail systems, heightening demands for passenger capacity and efficiency while also pressuring these networks. Passenger flow forecasting is an essential part of transportation systems. Short-term passenger flow forecasting for rail transit can estimate future station volumes, providing valuable data to guide operations management and mitigate congestion. This paper investigates short-term forecasting for Suzhou's Shantang Street station. Shantang Street's high commercial presence and distinct weekday versus weekend ridership patterns make it an interesting test case. Wavelet denoising and LSTM modeling were combined to predict short-term flows, comparing the results to standalone LSTM and SVR approaches. This study illustrates that the adopted algorithms exhibit good performance for passenger prediction. The LSTM model with wavelet denoising proved most accurate, demonstrating applicability for short-term rail transit forecasting and practical significance.

The theory of fractional calculus extends the order of classical integer calculus from integer to non-integer. As a new engineering application tool, it has made many important research achievements in many fields, including image processing. This paper mainly studies the application of fractional calculus theory in image enhancement and denoising, including the basic theory of fractional calculus and its amplitude frequency characteristics, the application of fractional differential operator in image enhancement, and the application of fractional integral operator in image denoising. The experimental results show that the fractional calculus theory has more special advantages in image enhancement and denoising. Compared with the existing integer order image enhancement operators, the fractional differential operator can more effectively enhance the "weak edge" and "strong texture" details of the image. The fractional order integral image denoising operator can not only improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the image compared to traditional denoising methods, but also better preserve detailed information such as edges and textures of the image.

3D object reconstruction from depth image streams using Kinect-style depth cameras has been extensively studied. In this paper, we propose an approach for accurate camera tracking and volumetric dense surface reconstruction assuming a known cuboid reference object is present in the scene. Our contribu¬tion is three-fold. (a) We maintain drift-free camera pose tracking by incorporating the 3D geometric constraints of the cuboid reference object into the image registration process. (b) We reformulate the problem of depth stream fusion as a binary classification problem, enabling high-fidelity surface reconstruction, especially in the con¬cave zones of objects. (c) We further present a surface denoising strategy to mitigate the topological inconsistency (e.g., holes and dangling triangles), which facilitates the generation of a noise-free triangle mesh. We extend our public dataset CU3D with several new image sequences, test our algorithm on these sequences and quantitatively compare them with other state-of-the-art algorithms. Both our dataset and our algorithm are available as open-source content at https://github.com/zhangxaochen/CuFusion for oth-er researchers to reproduce and verify our results.

In addition to image filtering in the spatial and frequency domains, fractal characteristics induced algorithms offers considerable flexibility in the design and implementations of image processing solutions in areas such as image enhancement, image restoration, image data compression and spectrum of applications of practical interests. Facing up to a real-world problem of identifying workpiece surface defects, a generic adaptive fractal filtering algorithm is proposed, which shows advantages on the problems of target recognition, feature extraction and image denoising at multiple scales. First, we reveal the physical principles underlying between signal SNR and its representative fractal dimension indicative parameters, validating that the fractal dimension can be used to adaptively obtain the image features. Second, an adaptive fractal filtering algorithm (Abbreviated as AFFA) is proposed according to the identified correlation between the image fractal dimensions and the scales of objects, and it is verified by a benchmarking image processing case study. Third, by using the proposed fractal filtering algorithm, surface defects on a flange workpiece are identified. Compared to conventional image processing algorithms, the proposed algorithm shows superior computing simplicity and better performance Numerical analysis and engineering case studies show that the fractal dimension is eligible for deriving an adaptive filtering algorithm for diverse-scale object identification, and the proposed AFFA is feasible for general application in workpiece surface defect detection.

Wavelet analysis breaks down brain signals, such as EEG or fMRI data, into various frequency components at different scales. Wavelet analysis provides time-frequency localization. Pattern recognition can be enhanced by isolating salient features in the data. Wavelet denoising can effectively separate noise from underlying brain signals. Wavelet denoising usually adopts threshold method. Wavelet analysis can enhance pattern recognition by isolating salient features in the data. Researchers can train machine learning models based on these wavelet-derived features to recognize specific patterns associated with different neurological disorders. Wavelet analysis can track these changes by continuously evaluating the frequency content of the neuroimage data over time. Through continuous efforts, wavelet theory and technology have become valuable tools in the field of neuroscience and brain disease research.

One of the most basic pieces of information gained from dynamic electromyography is accurately defining muscle action and phase timing within the gait cycle. The human gait relies on selective timing and the intensity of appropriate muscle activations for stability, loading, and progression over the supporting foot during stance, and further to advance the limb in the swing phase. A common clinical practice is utilizing a low-pass filter to denoise integrated electromyogram (EMG) signals and to determine onset and cessation events using a predefined threshold. However, the accuracy of the defining period of significant muscle activations via EMG varies with the temporal shift involved in filtering the signals; thus, the low-pass filtering method with a fixed order and cut-off frequency will introduce a time delay depending on the frequency of the signal. In order to precisely identify muscle activation and to determine the onset and cessation times of the muscles, we have explored here onset and cessation epochs with denoised EMG signals using different filter banks: the wavelet method, empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method, and ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) method. In this study, gastrocnemius muscle onset and cessation were determined in sixteen participants within two different age groups and under two different walking conditions. Low-pass filtering of integrated EMG (iEMG) signals resulted in premature onset (28% stance duration) in younger and delayed onset (38% stance duration) in older participants, showing the time-delay problem involved in this filtering method. Comparatively, the wavelet denoising approach detected onset for normal walking events most precisely, whereas the EEMD method showed the smallest onset deviation. In addition, EEMD denoised signals could further detect pre-activation onsets during a fast walking condition. A comprehensive comparison is discussed on denoising EMG signals using EMD, EEMD, and wavelet denoising in order to accurately define an onset of muscle under different walking conditions.

In remote sensing applications, one of the key points is the acquisition, real-time pre-processing and storage of information. Due to the large amount of information present in the form of images or videos, compression of this data is necessary. Compressed sensing (CS) is an efficient technique to meet this challenge. It consists in acquiring a signal, assuming that it can have a sparse representation, using a minimal number of non-adaptive linear measurements. After this CS process, a reconstruction of the original signal must be performed at the receiver. Reconstruction techniques are often unable to preserve the texture of the image and tend to smooth out its details. To overcome this problem, we propose in this work, a CS reconstruction method that combines the total variation regularization and the non-local self-similarity constraint. The optimization of this method is performed by the augmented Lagrangian which avoids the difficult problem of non-linearity and non-differentiability of the regularization terms. The proposed algorithm, called denoising compressed sensing by regularizations terms (DCSR), will not only perform image reconstruction but also denoising. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we compare its performance with state-of-the-art methods, such as Nesterov's algorithm, group-based sparse representation and wavelet-based methods, in terms of denoising, and preservation of edges, texture and image details, as well as from the point of view of computational complexity. Our approach allows to gain up to 25% in terms of denoising efficiency, and visual quality using two metrics: PSNR and SSIM.

Speech enhancement technology seeks to improve the quality and intelligibility of speech signals degraded by noise, particularly in telephone communications. Recent advancements have focused on leveraging deep neural networks (DNN), especially U-Net architectures, for effective denoising. In this study, we evaluate the performance of a 6-level skip-connected U-Net constructed using either conventional convolution activation blocks (CCAB) or innovative global local former blocks (GLFB) across different processing domains: temporal waveform, short-time Fourier transform (STFT), and short-time discrete cosine transform (STDCT). Our results indicate that the U-Nets can receive better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) when applied in the STFT and STDCT domains, with comparable short-time objective intelligibility (STOI) scores across all domains. Notably, the GLFB-based U-Net outperforms its CCAB counterpart in metrics such as CSIG, CBAK, COVL, and PESQ, while maintaining fewer learnable parameters. Furthermore, we propose domain-specific composite loss functions, considering the acoustic and perceptual characteristics of the spectral domain, to enhance the perceptual quality of denoised speech. Our findings provide valuable insights that can guide the optimization of DNN designs for causal speech denoising.

The bacterial composition of oral samples has traditionally been determined by PCR amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA genes. Recent amplicon sequence variant (ASV)-based analyses of 16S rRNA genes differ from that based on operational taxonomic unit (OTU) clustering in the way it deals with sequences having potential errors. However, little information is available on its application in oral microbiome studies. Here, we conducted ASV-based analysis of oral microbiome samples using QIIME 2. We investigated the optimal parameters for sequence denoising, using DADA2, and found the trimming of the first 20 nucleotides from 5′-end of both paired reads avoided excessive sequence loss during chimera removal. Truncating reads at positions 240–245 allowed the removal of low-quality sequences while maintaining sufficient length to merge matching paired ends. Taxonomic assignment, using the naïve Bayes classifier trained with the V3-V4 region of reference 16S rRNA sequences in the extended human oral microbiome database (eHOMD), resulted in bacterial compositions similar to those of OTU-based analyses. Contrary to OTU-based clustering, ASV-based analysis showed taxonomic abundance at the genus or species level to not differ significantly in tongue microbiomes, regardless of brushing. QIIME 2 can, therefore, be a standard pipeline for ASV-based analysis of oral microbiomes.

In a complex working environment, the fault signal of the gearbox is greatly affected by the outside world, and fault feature recognition is difficult, so the fault diagnosis accuracy is difficult to meet the expected requirements. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a gearbox fault diagnosis method based on an optimized stacked denoising auto encoder (SDAE) and kernel extreme learning machine (KELM). Firstly, the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm in Adaptive Weight (SAPSO) was adopted to optimize the SDAE network structure, and the number of hidden layer nodes, learning rate, noise addition ratio and iteration times were adaptively obtained to make SDAE obtain the best network structure. Then, the best SDAE network structure was used to extract the deep feature information of weak faults in the original signal. Finally, the extracted fault features are fed into KELM for fault classification. Experimental results show that, compared with existing commonly used methods of fault diagnosis, the fault diagnosis model proposed in this paper can reduce the influence of noise in the original signal can better learn the deep-level features in the original signal and has higher diagnosis accuracy, faster diagnosis speed and good generalization in fault diagnosis.

Growth monitoring of crops is a crucial aspect of precision agriculture, essential for optimal yield prediction and resource allocation. Traditional crop growth monitoring methods are labor-intensive and prone to errors. This study introduces an automated segmentation pipeline utilizing multi-date aerial images and ortho-mosaics to monitor the growth of cauliflower crops (Brassica Oleracea var. Botrytis) using an object-based image analysis approach. The methodology employs YOLOv8, Grounding Detection Transformer with Improved Denoising Anchor Boxes (DINO), and the Segment Anything Model (SAM) for automatic annotation and segmentation. The YOLOv8 model was trained using aerial image datasets, which then facilitated the training of the Grounded Segment Anything Model framework. This approach generated automatic annotations and segmentation masks, classifying crop rows for temporal monitoring and growth estimation. The study’s findings utilized a multi-modal monitoring approach to highlight the efficiency of this automated system in providing accurate crop growth analysis, promoting informed decision-making in crop management and sustainable agricultural practices. Results indicate consistent and comparable growth patterns between aerial images and ortho-mosaics, with significant periods of rapid expansion and minor fluctuations over time. The results also indicated a correlation between the both the time and method of observation which paves a future possibility of integration of such techniques aimed at increasing the accuracy in crop growth monitoring based on automatically derived temporal crop row segmentation masks.

Spherical harmonic (SH) interpolation is a commonly used method to spatially up-sample sparse Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) datasets to denser HRTF datasets. However, depending on the number of sparse HRTF measurements and SH order, this process can introduce distortions in high frequency representation of the HRTFs. This paper investigates whether it is possible to restore some of the distorted high frequency HRTF components using machine learning algorithms. A combination of Convolutional Auto-Encoder (CAE) and Denoising Auto-Encoder (DAE) models is proposed to restore the high frequency distortion in SH interpolated HRTFs. Results are evaluated using both Perceptual Spectral Difference (PSD) and localisation prediction models, both of which demonstrate significant improvement after the restoration process.

The development of mineral resources in China has gradually entered the stage of deep mining. Rock burst, collapse and other ground pressure disasters caused by deep high stress have become major hidden dangers restricting mine safety production. Microseismic monitoring technology is an important means of ground pressure risk prediction. In this paper, the wavelet coefficient threshold denoising method in time-frequency domain, STA/LTA method, AIC method, Skew and Kurtosis method are studied, and the automatic P-phase onset time picking model based on noise reduction and multiple detection indexes is established. Through the effect analysis of microseismic signals collected by microseismic monitoring system of coral Tungsten Mine in Guangxi, automatic P-phase onset time picking is realized. the reliability of the P-phase onset time picking method proposed in this paper based on noise reduction and multiple detection indexes is verified. The picking accuracy can still be guaranteed under the severe signal interference of background noise, power frequency interference and manual activity underground mine, Which is of great significance to the data processing and analysis of microseismic monitoring.
