The process of preparing anti-glare thin films by spray-coating silica sol-gel to soda-lime glass was exclusively and statistically studied in this paper. The effects of sol-gel deliver pressure, air transport pressure, and spray gun displacement speed on the gloss, haze, arithmetic mean surface roughness, and total transmittance light were analyzed. The experimental results indicate that the factors of sol-gel deliver pressure, air transport pressure, and displacement speed exhibit significant effect on the haze, gloss, and Ra. In contrast, the variation of total transmittance light with these three factors are insignificant. Because the anti-glare property is predominantly determined by low gloss and high haze, therefore, we aim to minimize gloss and maximize haze to achieve high anti-glare. Central composite design and response rurface methodology are employed to analyze the main and interaction effects of the three factors through quadratic polynomial equations, which are confirmed by the analysis of variance and R². The response surface methodology predict the lowest gloss and highest haze are 9.2 GU and 57.0%, corresponding to the sol-gel deliver pressure, air-transport pressure, and displacement speed of 250 kPa, 560 kPa, and 140 mm/s, and 340 kPa, 620 kPa, and 20 mm/s, respectively. Comparing the predicted optimal data with the real experimental results validates the applicability of the mathematical model. This study provides an important basis for the subsequent production of anti-glare glass with different specifications to satisfy the market demand.

Background: We screened key genes involved in the dedifferentiation process of thyroid cancer by analyzing differentially expressed genes in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) using Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Methods: We analyzed differentially expressed genes in ATC from GEO database and constructed a co-expression network using Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) . Cytoscape was used to calculate top ten key genes based on their gene scores. DEPDC1 was selected as interest gene for further validation, including examination of its prognostic relationship with thyroid cancer, correlation analysis with thyroid differentiation markers, immune cell infiltration, and tumor microenvironment. The impact of DEPDC1 on cancer cell migration, invasion, and proliferation was validated through downregulation and overexpression of DEPDC1 gene in thyroid cancer cell lines c643 and BCPAP. Results: We identified top 10 key genes in ATC: AURKA, TPX2, RACGAP1, MELK, DLGAP5, DEPDC1, KIF2C, NCAPG, CCNB1, and PBK. DEPDC1 showed a strong correlation with the prognosis of thyroid cancer. The odds ratio (OR) for overall survival was 3.5 (P=0.016) in individuals with high DEPDC1 expression, and the OR for disease-free survival was 2.6 (P=0.003). Additionally, the analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between the expression of DEPDC1 and thyroid differentiation markers. Gene Ontology enrichment analysis demonstrated that DEPDC1 co-expressed genes were enriched in cellular processes, cell cycle pathways, and dynamic protein groups. Matrix and immune scoring indicated tumor microenvironment and immune scores were associated with DEPDC1 expression. TIMER2.0 online analysis revealed a strong correlation between DEPDC1 expression and immune cell infiltration in papillary thyroid carcinoma. After downregulation of DEPDC1 expression, the invasion, migration, and proliferation abilities of tumor cells were significantly reduced. Conversely, overexpression of DEPDC1 exhibited the opposite effect. Conclusion: DEPDC1, a newly identified dedifferentiation gene in thyroid cancer, inversely correlated with the degree of differentiation. High expression of DEPDC1 promotes cancer progression and leads to poor prognosis in thyroid cancer.

A method based on ferroelectric dipole to enhance surface charge density of triboelectric generator was proposed. By using the ferroelectric properties of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), a positive charge trap was formed in the triboelectric layer to enhance the electric generating performance of the triboelectric material, so as to improve the surface charge density of the triboelectric nanogenerator. The PVDF film was fabricated by casting and uniaxial tensile process, and integrated into the triboelectric nanogenerator with vertical separation structure. The influences of the embedding direction, thickness and polarization intensity of the PVDF film on the output of the triboelectric nanogenerator were systematically studied. The results showed that the embedded PVDF piezoelectric film with a thickness of 100 µm and a maximum polarization electric field of 90 MV/m increased the peak power of the triboelectric nanogenerator by 2.6 times. This work has provided a new insight into regulating the properties of the triboelectric nanogenerator.

Two pre-pulses focused at different positions and at different time moments were used to enhance THz emission generated by the main pulse. The emission of THz radiation from air breakdown regions of focused ultrashort fs-laser pulses (800 nm/35 fs) at shockwave front prepared by pre-pulses was investigated, and a 3D spatio-temporal control was established for the most intense emission. The laser pulse-induced air breakdown forms a ~120 micrometers-long focal volume and generates a shockwave that delivers denser air into the focal region of the main pulse for enhanced generation of THz radiation at 0.1-2.5 THz spectral window. The intensity of pre- and main-pulses was at the tunneling ionisation intensities (1-3)x10¹⁶ W/cm² and corresponded to sub-critical (transparent) plasma in air. Polarisation analysis revealed that the orientation of the air density gradients generated by pre-pulses and their time-space placement defined the ellipticity of the generated THz electrical field. The rotational electric current is the origin of THz radiation. The current is created by non-parallel gradients of electron density and temperature. Scaling dependencies of THz emission control are established.

Four-polarisation camera was used to map absorbance of olivine micro-grains before and after high temperature annealing (HTA). It is shown that HTA of olivine xenolith at above 1200∘C in O2 flow makes it magnetised. Different mode of operation of polariscope with polarisation control before and after the sample in transmission and reflection modes was used. The reflection type was assembled for non-transparent samples of olivine after HTA. Sample for optical observation in transmission was placed on an achromatic plastic quarter-wavelength waveplate as a sample holder. Inspection for sample’s birefringence (retardance) as well as absorbance can be made. A best fit of transmitted intensity or transmittance T (hence absorbance A=−log10T) becomes accessible by simple best-fit using only three orientations (from measured four orientations by the camera). When intensity of transmitted light at one of the orientations was very low due to cross-polarised condition (polariser-analyser arrangement), the three-points fit can be used. Three-point fit in transmission and reflection modes was validated for T(θ)=Amp×cos(2θ−2θshift)+offset, where amplitude Amp, offset offset and orientation azimuth θshift are extracted for each pixel via the best fit.

Polypharmacy, the use of multiple medications, is a prevalent issue globally that contributes to increased healthcare costs and places additional burdens on patients' organs. This study aims to reduce the incidence of polypharmacy in the emergency department. We conducted a retrospective review of randomly selected medical records from the Internal Medicine Department of Taipei MacKay Emergency Department, spanning from August 1, 2023, to October 31, 2023. For cases identified as involving polypharmacy, pharmacists provided medication education using the TRM Polypharmacy Interview Guide, while social workers contacted patients via phone to recommend follow-up visits for deprescribing. Patients experiencing polypharmacy were significantly older than those on appropriate medication regimens (79.8 vs. 67.3 years, p=0.002). After deprescribing interventions, the average number of medications for polypharmacy patients was 5.9 higher than for those receiving appropriate prescriptions (9.2 vs. 3.3, p=0.001). The most common conditions associated with polypharmacy were diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and arrhythmia. Polypharmacy poses a significant medication management challenge, with affected patients taking an average of 6.9 more medications than those on appropriate treatment regimens. Our team’s resource management module successfully reduced the incidence of polypharmacy by 8.4% in the emergency department.

Laser machining by ultra-short (sub-ps) pulses at high intensity offers high precision, high throughput in terms of area or volume per unit time, and flexibility to adapt processing protocols to different materials on the same workpiece. Here we consider the challenge of optimization for high throughput: how to use the maximum available laser power and larger focal spots for larger ablation volumes by implementing a fast scan. This implies the use of high-intensity pulses approaching ∼PW/cm2 at the threshold where tunnelling ionization starts to contribute to overall ionization. A custom laser micromachining setup was developed and built to enable high speed, large area processing and easy system reconfiguration for different tasks. The main components include laser, stages, scanners, control system, and software. Machining of metals such as Cu, Al, or stainless steel, and fused silica surfaces at high-fluence and high-exposure doses at high scan speeds up to 3 m/s were tested for the fluence scaling of ablation volume, which was found to be linear. Modified surfaces are color-classified for their appearance, which is dependent on surface roughness and chemical modification. Such colour-coding can be used as a feedback parameter for industrial process control.
