This article deals primarily with the problem of determining the cutting force when machining hardened steels. Secondary issues are focused on the evaluation of surface quality on machined samples and the recommendation of cutting conditions. A wide variety of components are used in engineering, the final heat treatment of which is hardening. These components are usually critical in a particular product. The quality of these components determines the correct functioning of the entire technical equipment and ultimately its service life. In our case, these are the core parts of thrust bearings, specifically the rolling elements. The subject of the experiment is machining these components in the hardened state with cubic boron nitride tools and continuous measurement of the cutting force using a dynamometer. The following evaluation assesses the surface quality by both touch and non-touch methods. A structural equation with appropriate constant and exponents was then constructed from the data obtained using the dynamometer.

These components usually occupy a significant position in a given assembly unit. They guarantee the correct operation of the entire technical equipment in total cooperation with other components. The quality of these components depends on the integrity of their surface. The production of these parts is usually carried out by traditional technological procedures. An example of such a technology is clearly grinding. However, this article discusses the application of other finishing technologies using tool material made of cubic boron nitride (CBN). The technology used is finishing turning with subsequent tumbling technology. The subject of the evaluation is the integrity of the surface. In this part of the experiments, there are mainly individual parameters of surface roughness. Compared components are bearing rings, in this case the inner surface of the housing ring.

Reactive powder concrete (RPC) is a modern form of cementitious material. Major components include cement with a very low water-to-binder (w/b) ratio, steel fibres, superplasticizers, and very fine additives used in place of coarse aggregate, and very little water. The primary goal of this study is to examine the impact of immersion in sulfuric acid on compressive strength and to evaluate the impact of curing procedures on the preparation of RPC with high characteristics. The experimental work includes 4 mixes, which are prepared using 30 mm hooked-end steel fibers with a ratio of 0.4 by volume, silica fume and metakaolin with a ratio of 25% of cement weight. Compressive and indirect tensile strengths, ultrasonic velocity, and bulk density tests were conducted on the RPC that was prepared to evaluate its qualities. The results showed that heat curing resulted in a greater increase in strength than water curing did, and that mechanical properties improved with increasing SF more than MK additions. Heat-cured RPC demonstrated greater resistance to sulfuric acid immersion tests on compressive strength compared to water-cured RPC.

3D printing with cement-based materials is a promising manufacturing technique for civil engineering applications that already allows for the design and the construction of complex and highly customized structures using a layer-by-layer deposition approach. Usually, in this type of additive manufacturing, a mixture of cement, water, aggregate and additives is extruded through a specific print head and deposited in successive layers to form the desired shape. The extrusion mechanism is one of the most expensive parts of the 3D printer. Also, for low scale 3D printers, based on the shape of the extruder and the geometry limitation of the mixing blade, the 3D mixture is often limited to a narrow range of materials due to the risk of layer splitting or blockage. Therefore, there is a need to develop affordable and feasible alternatives to the current design-fabrication-application approach of 3D printers. In this paper, various new designed mixtures of fiber reinforced mortars that can be 3D printed using only a commercially available screw pump are analyzed based on their fresh properties and mechanical characteristics. The reduced facility requirements in this approach allow 3D-printing to be more available for civil engineering applications. With further innovation in the future, this method and mixtures can be extended for sustainable and economically feasible printing of single-family housing units.
