Interrelationships between traditional dental variables are becoming more evident in far reaching aspects of life such as psychosocial interaction, self-esteem, overall health and even occupational performance. This study compares quality of life (QoL) in postmenopausal women (PMW) with poor oral health (POH) with QoL in PMW with good oral health. 200 randomly recruited PMW received a dental evaluation and completed Utian Quality of Life Survey. The participants were divided into POH and healthy groups based on dental exam. Mean scores were calculated for each QoL item, domain and the overall summary score. For each of the four parameters for periodontitis diagnosis, periodontitis patients’ QoL outcomes were compared to those of healthy patients using T-test with threshold of significance at p<0.05. QoL in all fields measured were significantly poorer in the POH compared to the healthy patients, occupational (19.95±5.35vs. 27.56±6.13), health (18.02±8.23 vs. 26.59 ±6.45), emotional (15.68±10.22vs. 21.15±9.15), sexual (6.2±5.98vs. 10.02±5.35), and total score (60.21±25.85 vs. 84.26±22.35). This study finds that PMW with POH, report significantly poorer quality of life. Clinicians caring for PMW should be aware of that oral health impacts QoL and make appropriate referral decisions for patients’ dental care. Background: Sarcopenia is a progressive muscle disorder characterized by muscle wasting, decreased strength, and a substantially elevated risk of developing severe and potentially life-threatening health complications. For decades, muscle wasting has been recognized as a clinical symptom in various severe diseases and conditions. However, with increasing life expectancy and an aging population, sarcopenia has emerged as a prominent age-related condition in primary care, significantly contributing to disability and mortality rates. Aim and Objective: Our goal was to elucidate the clinical characteristics associated with sarcopenia prevalence in postmenopausal women with type 1 osteoporosis. Methodology: 370 postmenopausal osteoporosis patients who routinely visited the physiotherapy department at Ali Fatima Hospital were examined in this cross-sectional investigation. Mean age 64.59 ± 5.85 years, it was discovered that the patients' quality of life, postural stability, muscular strength, and balance were related to the existence of sarcopenia. Conclusion: In summary, among postmenopausal female patients with type 1 osteoporosis, the incidence of sarcopenia was relatively high (90.35%), affecting quality of life in 39.82% of patients, postural instability in 92.21% of patients, and balance in 39.92% of patients.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are rising rapidly among the postmenopausal woman but they are less likely to identify their risk by an appropriate risk assessment tool. This review evaluates available literature on cardiovascular risk assessment among postmenopausal women to provide a concise view of risk factors and disease burden among them, present risk assessment systems including their drawbacks, emergence of new risk factors and their role in risk prediction, and finally use of hormone replacement therapy during menopause. Results demonstrate that menopause is a transition point for developing CVD not due to physiological changes only but psychosocial factors like depression and marital stress are also responsible. Both conventional and emerging risk factors burden are high among postmenopausal women. Though data regarding CVD risk assessment among postmenopausal population is lacking but existing evidences claimed underestimation or overestimation of risk among women. Moreover application of different tools on same population has revealed significant variation in result. In this regard, recalibration of conventional tools with local data and new risk factors has showed improvement of risk prediction. Hormone replacement therapy during early menopause has reported beneficial to prevent CVD but in secondary prevention it has no role. All of these findings demand further studies on cardiovascular risk assessment, especially in developing countries where women after menopause are not in consideration of health strategy makers.

The study explores the impact of female sex hormones on liver and renal manifestations, uncovering gender-specific differences in disease progression. Actually hormonal therapy in women with ADPKD remains a challenging issue and is a source of concern regarding its potential impact on disease outcomes, particularly at the hepatic level. Notably, women with ADPKD exhibit a slower renal disease progression compared to men, attributed to hormonal dynamics. The review sheds light on the role of estrogen in regulating pathways of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, revealing its complex interplay and implications for cardiovascular and renal health. Therapeutic considerations for fertile women with ADPKD, including contraception options, are discussed, emphasizing the necessity for personalized approaches. In the postmenopausal phase, the review evaluates the role of hormonal replacement therapy, considering its potential benefits and risks in the context of ADPKD. The review concludes by underscoring the imperative need for tailored treatment approaches for ADPKD patients, considering individual risks and benefits. The scarcity of literature underlines the call for further research to enhance our understanding of optimal hormonal therapies in the context of ADPKD, ultimately paving the way for innovative and personalized therapeutic interventions.

Low dietary intake of calcium, vitamin D, vitamin C and magnesium has been associated with increased risk of osteoporosis. The purpose of the study was to evaluate changes in several bone health indicators and metabolic biomarkers in postmenopausal women, with high osteopenia or osteoporosis, followed by a nutritional intervention program. 115 apparently healthy postmenopausal women (52±8 years old) were randomized into four groups: group I (n=40) received daily 1000 mg vitamin C, 100 mcg vitamin D3, 500 mg calcium(Ca) and 300 mg magnesium (Mg); group II (n=42) received daily 100 mcg vitamin D3, 500 mg Ca and 300 mg Mg; group III (n=18) received daily 5 mg bisphosphonates, 100 mcg vitamin D3, 500 mg Ca and 300 mg Mg; and group IV (n=15) received daily about 364 mg polyphenols via an innovative functional food (50 g olive paste enriched with mountain tea extract) along with 100 mcg vitamin D3, 500 mg Ca and 300 mg Mg. Groups I -III received supplementation for a year whereas group IV for 5 months. Changes in bone health indicators and metabolic biomarkers were assessed at the beginning and at the end of the study. Anthropometric indices and whole-body bone mineral density (BMD) were also evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the intervention period. The results revealed improved elevated levels of 25(OH)D3, in groups II, III and IV (+3,71% and +1.45% and +5.62% respectively). Significant positive changes were recorded, for whole-body BMD, in all four study groups. Significant beneficial changes for total cholesterol were observed in group IV (-2.07%, P&lt;0.05) and positive changes in group I for HDL biomarker (+61.62%, P&lt;0.05). Additional larger-scale clinical trials and intervention studies are considered essential, to fully investigate and elucidate associations between dietary components and biochemical indices of bone health.

Groups I -III received supplementation for a year whereas group IV for 5 months. Changes in calciregulatory hormone parathormone (PTH) were evaluated at the beginning of the study as well as at 5 and 12 months intervals. Blood levels of vitamin D, vitamin C, Ca, Mg and the lipid profile were assessed at the beginning and at the end of the study. Anthropometric indices (weight, body fat(Kg), Body Mass Index(BMI) and bone mineral density(BMD) were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the study. Statistical analysis was performed with IBM-SPSS Statistics-21. The level of statistical significance was set at p<0.05. (3) Results: 25(OH)D3 levels were improved, in groups II, III and IV (+3,71% and +1.45% and +5.62% respectively). PTH levels were increased at the end of the intervention period, for groups I and IV. Ovarian cancer is the third most common female genital cancer. Therefore, the timely diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of postmenopausal patients with benign ovarian tumors remains crucial in the field of gynecology. The significance of ovarian tumors depends on their frequency and their effects on the quality of life of a woman, as well as the possible development of ovarian cancer. Most ovarian cancers are diagnosed late and as a result are difficult to treat and often carry a poor prognosis. Currently there is no clear algorithm available for examining and accurately diagnosing patients with postmenopausal ovarian tumors; moreover, reliable criteria allowing dynamic observation and determining surgical access and optimal surgical intervention measures in postmenopausal patients is lacking.

Mucinous breast carcinoma is a rare subtype of mammary neoplasm encountered in medical practice. It represents approximately 1-6% of all breast cancers and is more common in postmenopausal women. There are two subtypes of mucinous breast carcinoma: pure and mixed. We report the case of a 73-year-old Caucasian woman diagnosed with mucinous pancreatic cystadenoma in 2007. She underwent a surgical procedure involving pancreatectomy of the body and tail, along with multiple known cardiovascular and metabolic comorbidities. In November 2019, during a clinical-biological evaluation for associated diseases, a mucinous carcinoma of the right breast was accidentally detected and later confirmed through further investigations. For treatment, a surgical procedure was performed involving lower right quadrantectomy with right axillary lymph node dissection. The postoperative clinical course was favorable. In conclusion, we present the case of a patient diagnosed with mixed mucinous breast carcinoma, without axillary lymph node invasion. Postmenopausal women with diabetes, overweight, and obesity have an increased susceptibility to breast cancer, with our patient having all these risk factors. To date, no study has demonstrated the genetic or radiation implication in the occurrence of mucinous carcinomas, nor the possible development of mucinous carcinomas in series in the same patient. Current data are insufficient to provide recommendations for the screening of malignant mucinous tumors in subjects with significant cardiometabolic risk factors.

Breast Cancer Associated Susceptibility Proteins Type 1/2 (BRCA1/2) promote cellular functioning by modulating NRF2-mediated antioxidant signaling. Redox failure in women with BRCA1/2 insufficiency increases the risk for breast/ovarian/uterine cancers. Risk‐reducing salpingo‐oophorectomy (RRSO) is a prophylactic surgery of the reproductive organs, which is frequently conducted by the age of 40 to lower the occurrence of cancer in women with BRCA1/2 mutations. However, abrupt estrogen decline following RRSO causes ovarian failure, which implicates various cellular physiological processes, resulting in increased release of free radicals and subsequent severe onset of menopausal symptoms. Comfort measures (e.g., hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR)) may improve chronological menopause-related quality of life, but their specific effects are not clear in women with gene mutations. Aiming to fill the gap, this study used path analysis to examine the effects of HRT and MBSR on menopausal symptoms among RRSO patients (N = 199, mean age = 50.5 ± 6.7 years). HRT alleviated menopausal symptoms in BRCA2 carriers and women who were physically active, premenopausal at the time of RRSO, had a high BMI, and had no history of breast cancer. It increased the severity of urogenital symptoms in those with a history of cancer. MBSR, on the other hand, was associated with increased intensity of most menopausal symptoms. The results suggest that young women undergoing recent RRSO may benefit from HRT at an individual level while their need for extensive measures to optimize their psychological wellbeing is ongoing. Adverse effects of MBSR, which are captured in the present study imply that MBSR may interfere with redox sensitivity associated with estradiol fluctuations in BRCA1/2 carriers. Investigations are needed to test this hypothesis and elaborate on the underlying mechanisms in those women.
