In this investigation dyeing of alginate fiber was carried out after cationic treatment of EPTAC (2, 3-Epoxypropyl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride). Optimum dyeing process and parameter show good dyeing performance when alginate fiber dyed with rhubarb dye. In addition to cationic treatment is taken into account for alginate fiber to improve fastness, color strength, breaking strength. Later in dyeing for fixation ferrous sulfate, copper sulphate was considered as mordents. Moreover using pre-mordanting methods conveyed the dyeing of alginate fiber with the stave of metallic mordant and without metallic salt mordents. The evaluation of each color dyed material was done through following two terms for instance CIELAB (L*, a*, and b*) and K/S values. According to AATCC test methods color fastness to washing of the dyed fiber was determined whereas according to the ASTM D3822M standard the breaking strength of alginate fiber was estimated and tested. When dyeing was carried out on alginate fiber through considering optimum parameter like 80◦C for 90 min, M: L 1:40 and at pH 7 which showed optimum results. In addition to mostly very good wash fastness was obtained while there was no fading of the color, whereas the moderate level of color fastness to crocking was achieved. Later after dyeing the evaluations of SEM of the cationized alginate fiber and FTIR of powder from the rhubarb dye were observed. The results suggested that the surface of cationized alginate fiber was smoother than the raw alginate fiber.

To digital grade the color fastness of fabrics after rubbing, an automatic grading method based on spectral reconstruction technology and BP neural network was proposed. Firstly, the modeling samples are prepared by rubbing the fabrics according to the ISO standard of 105-X12. Then, to comply with visual rating standards for color fastness, the modeling samples are professionally graded to obtain the visual rating result. After that, a digital camera is used to capture digital images of the modeling samples inside a closed and uniform lighting box, and the color data values of the modeling samples are obtained through spectral reconstruction technology. Finally, the color fastness prediction model for rubbing was constructed using the modeling samples data and BP neural network. The color fastness level of the testing samples was predicted using the prediction model, and the prediction results were compared with the existing color difference conversion method and curve fitting method. Experimental show that the prediction model of fabric color fastness can be better constructed using the BP neural network, where the root-mean-square error of the prediction for the training sample is 0.30, and the root-mean-square error of the prediction for the test sample is 0.25. The overall performance of the method is slightly better than the color difference conversion method, and it is significantly outperforming the curve fitting method. It can be seen that the digital rating method of fabric color fastness to rubbing based on spectral reconstruction and BP neural network has a high consistency with the visual evaluation, which will help for the automatic color fastness grading.

Natural dyes offer a bio-based opportunity to support attractive coloration to textile fabrics made from natural fibers like cotton, wool, hemp and many other materials. They can be part of a strategy to realize fully bio-based textile materials and clothing. Following this statement, the actual study investigates the use of wood extracts for dyeing of cotton fabrics. Actually extract powders of Logwood (Haematoxylon campechianum L.), Brazilwood (Caesalpinia spp.), and Quebracho wood (Schinopsis lorentzii) are used. The dyeing process is modified using different mordants based on iron and aluminum salts. These mordants are applied in pre-, meta- or post-mordant procedures. Color and fastness properties of prepared textile samples are determined by spectroscopic measurements, color measurements, washing procedures and Xenotest for measuring the light fastness. Finally, a broad range of different colorations can be realized by different combinations of wood extracts and mordanting procedures. A good wash fastness is reached for some color shades. For reaching good wash fastness, pre- and meta-mordanting procedures are more advantageous compared to post-mordanting. However, the light fastness of realized samples is only moderate to low. In conclusion, it can be stated that dyes from wood extracts are excellent materials to dye natural fibers if they are combined with the right mordanting agent in pre- or meta-mordanting procedures. The actual study is therefore a good proof-of-concept for the realization of fully bio-based colored textile materials.

The emergence of drug-resistant strains of M. tuberculosis (Mtb) and the phenomenon of phe-notypic tolerance to drugs challenge the goal of tuberculosis (TB) elimination worldwide. By using the ex vivo cultures of alveolar macrophages obtained from lung tissues of TB patients after intensive antimicrobial chemotherapy before surgery, different subpopulations of multi-drug-tolerant Mtb with a spectrum of phenotypic and growth features were identified in the same TB lesions. Our results indicative of not only passive mechanisms generating nonheritable resistance of Mtb to antibiotics, which are associated mainly with a lack of Mtb growth, but also some active mechanisms of Mtb persistence, such as cell wall and metabolic pathway remod-eling. In one of the subpopulations, non-acid-fast Mtb have undergone significant repro-gramming with the restoration of acid-fastness, lipoarabinomannan expression and replication in host cells of some patients after withdrawal of anti-TB drugs. Our data indicate the universal stress protein Rv2623 as a clinically relevant biomarker of Mtb that have lost acid-fastness in human lungs. The studies of Mtb persistence, dormancy, and resumption and the identification of biomarkers characterizing these phenomena are very important to develop vaccines and drug regimens with the individualized management of patients for overcoming the re-sistance/tolerance crisis in anti-TB therapy.
