The fine structure of Apricot pectin polysaccharides is discussed from both literature and recent work we have performed. Structural characterization utilized 1D and 2D homo- and hetero-nuclear NMR spectroscopy including results from High Performance Size Exclusion Chromatography (HP-SEC), HP Anion-Exchange Chromatography with Pulsed Amperometric Detection (HPAEC-PAD) and FTIR spectroscopy. The purified pectin fraction (F1AP) was found to be composed of D-galacturonic acid, L-rhamnose, D-arabinose and D-galactose in a 1.0 : 0.1 : 0.36 : 0.12 molar ratio, respectively, which is consistent with a pectin RG-1 branched with arabinogalactan side chain polysaccharides, and has a weight-average molecular weight of approximately 1588.2 kDa. The slope of the hydrodynamic radius versus the molar mass was 0.57, indicating the presence of coil conformations. The results from HPAEC-PAD, HPSEC and NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, zTOCSY, HSQC, HSQCTOXY and HMBC) demonstrated that F1AP fine fraction F1AP1, derived from original F1AP, has a backbone of (1→4)-linked -D-galacturonic acid and -L-rhamnopyranosyl residues branched with arabinogalactan of multiply glycosidic linkages of T- α-Araf, 3-α-Araf, 5-α-Araf, T- α -Arap, 2- α-Arap side chains, having methyl and acetylated groups, and has high molecular weights (1945 kDa). While the other F1A6 fraction consists predominately of an HG region of pectin polysaccharides with low molecular weights (117.5 kDa), less aggregated. The F1AP1 polysaccharide was highly viscous and its hydrodynamic radius was 64,3 nm. The exponent b of Rh-Mw (conformation plot) was determined to be 0.48, indicating a compact flexible coil conformation of the macromolecule in solution. However, the F1AP6 fraction of apricot fruits belong to backbone of repeats units of [-(1→4)-α-D-GalpA-1]n – both HG and partly contents RG-II polysaccharides, bearing heterosugar sidechains, including α-Ara, α -Rha and β-Gal residues and adopt more stiffness rod like conformation.

Mercury has a strong environmental impact since both its organic and inorganic forms are toxic and it represents a pollutant of global concern. Liquid Hg is highly volatile and it can be released during natural and anthropogenic processes in the hydrosphere, biosphere and atmosphere. In this study the distribution of Gaseous Elemental Mercury (GEM) and the total and leached mercury concentrations on paints, plasters, roof tiles, concretes, metals, dust and wood structures were determined in the main buildings and structures of the former Hg-mining area of Abbadia San Salvatore (Siena, Central Italy). The mining complex (divided into 7 units) covers a surface of about 65 ha and contains mining structures and managers and workers buildings. In this work, nine surveys of GEM measurements were carried out from July 2011 to August 2015 for the buildings and structures located in the units 2, 3 and 6. Moreover, detailed measurements were performed in February, April, July, September and December 2016 in the edifices and mining structures of Unit 6. GEM concentrations showed a strong variability in terms of space and time mostly depending on the distance from the building hosting driers, furnaces and condensers and ambient temperature, respectively. In the Unit 2 surveys carried out in the hotter period (from June to September) showed GEM concentrations up to 27,500 ng m⁻³, while in the Unit 6 they were on average much higher and occasionally they saturated the GEM measurement device (>50,000 ng m⁻³). Concentrations of total (in mg kg⁻¹) and leached (in μg L⁻¹) mercury measured in different building materials (up to 46,580 mg kg⁻¹ and 4,470 mg L⁻¹ for total and leached mercury, respectively) showed for the same type of material highly variable values in dependence on the edifice or mining structure from which they were collected. The results obtained in this study are of relevant interest for the operational cleanings to be carried out during the reclamation activities.

In this paper we obtain some inequalities of Hermite-Hadamard type for composite convex functions. Applications for AG, AH-convex functions, GA, GG, GH-convex functions and HA, HG, HH-convex function are given. Applications for p, r-convex and LogExp functions are presented as well.

Mercury (Hg) is a toxic element impacting on biological systems and ecosystems. Because the toxicity of Hg species is highly dependent on concentration levels and chemical forms, sensitive identification of chemical forms for Hg, i.e., Hg speciation, is of major significance in providing meaningful information about the source of Hg exposure. In this study, a microfluidic-based device made of high clarity poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was fabricated. Then titanium dioxide nanoparticles (nano-TiO2) were attached to the treated channel interior with the aid of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC). After coupling the nano-TiO2-coated microfluidic-based photocatalyst-assisted reduction device (the nano-TiO2-coated microfluid-ic-based PCARD) with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), a selective and sensitive hyphenated system for Hg specia-tion was established. Validation procedures demonstrated that the method could be satisfactorily applied to the determination of mercuric ion (Hg2+) and methylmercury ion (CH3Hg+) in both human urine and water samples. Remarkably, the zeta potential measured clearly indicated the PDADMAC-capped nano-TiO2 with predominance of positive charges indeed provided steady force for firm attachment to the negatively charged device channel. The cause for the durability of the nano-TiO2-coated microfluidic-based PCARD was clarified thus.
