After industrialization and the baby boom, many houses have been left vacant in many cities worldwide due to changes in the economy, socie-ty, and urban composition. The increase in vacant houses causes social problems, like the collapse of village communities, damage to urban aes-thetics, risk of crime due to vacant houses, and decrease in the value of real estate. Accordingly, policy attempts and studies to reduce and utilize vacant houses are in progress in various countries. In South Korea, the ratio of vacant houses was 6.4% of all houses as of 2021, and in Jeolla-buk-do, it was 11.6%, which is higher than the national average. Jeollabuk-do conducted a fact-finding survey on countermeasures against va-cant houses; 17,732 vacant houses (2.4%) were surveyed. The urbanization, population, and terrain of Jeollabuk-do, consisting of 14 cities and counties, were considered. The ratios, types, grades, and spatial autocorrelations of vacant houses were analyzed after classification into city (fo-cus, small, and medium) and county (plains and mountains) areas. There were significant differences in the averages of the ratios, grades, and spatial autocorrelations between city and county areas. Therefore, policy establishment for vacant house management and countermeasures re-quires consideration of the areas and types of vacant houses.Keywords: : vacant house; spatial autocorrelation; fact-finding survey

A text obtained by a Large Language Model (LLM) such as GPT4 usually has issues in terms of incorrectness and hallucinations. We build a fact-checking system 'Truth-O-Meter' which identifies wrong facts, comparing the generation results with the web and other sources of information, and suggests corrections. Text mining and web mining techniques are leveraged to identify correct corresponding sentences; also, the syntactic and semantic generalization procedure adopted to the content improvement task. To handle inconsistent sources while fact-checking, we rely on an argumentation analysis in the form of defeasible logic programming. We compare our fact checking engine with competitive approach based on reinforcement learning on top of LLM or token-based hallucination detection. It is observed that LLM content can be substantially improved for factual correctness and meaningfulness.

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has led to considerable progress in Automated Fact Verification (AFV). This process involves collecting evidence for a statement, assessing its relevance, and predicting its accuracy. Recently, research has begun to explore automatic explanations as an integral part of the accuracy analysis process. However, the explainability within AFV is lagging compared to the wider field of explainable AI (XAI), which aims at making AI decisions more transparent. This study looks at the notion of explainability as a topic in the field of XAI, with a focus on how it applies to the specific task of Automatic Fact Verification. It examines the explainability of AFV, taking into account architectural, methodological, and dataset-related elements, with the aim of making AI more comprehensible and acceptable to the general society. Although there is a general consensus on the need for AI systems to be explainable, there a dearth of systems and processes to achieve it. In this research, we investigate the concept of explainable AI in general and demonstrate its various aspects through the particular task of Automated Fact Verification. We explore topic of faithfulness in the context of local and global explainability and how these correspond with architectural, methodological and data-based ways of achieving it. We examine these concepts for the specific case of AFV and analyze the current datasets used for AFV and how they can be adapted to further the identified aims on XAI. The paper concludes by highlighting the gaps and limitations in current data science practices and possible recommendations for modifications in architectural and data curation processes that would further the goals of XAI.

DNA is stored in the nucleus of a cell in a folded state; however, only the necessary genetic information is extracted from the required group of genes. The key to extracting genetic information is chromatin ambivalence. Depending on the chromosomal region, chromatin is characterized into low-density "euchromatin" and high-density "heterochromatin", with various factors being involved in its regulation. Here, we focus on chromatin regulation and gene expression by the yeast FACT complex, which functions in both euchromatin and heterochromatin. FACT is known as a histone H2A/H2B chaperone and initially reported as an elongation factor associated with RNA polymerase II. In budding yeast, FACT activates promoter chromatin by interacting with the transcriptional activators SBF/MBF via the regulation of G1/S cell cycle genes. In fission yeast, FACT plays an important role in the formation of higher-order chromatin structures and transcriptional repression by binding to Swi6, an HP1 family protein, at heterochromatin. This FACT property, which refers to the alternate chromatin-regulation depending on the binding partner, is an interesting phenomenon. Further analysis of nucleosome regulation within heterochromatin is expected in future studies.

The rapid proliferation of information in the digital era underscores the importance of accurate historical representation and interpretation. While artificial intelligence (AI) has shown promise in various fields, its potential for historical fact-checking and gap-filling remains largely untapped. This study evaluates the performance of three large language models (LLMs)—GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and Google- BARD—in the context of predicting and verifying historical events based on given data. A novel metric, "Distance to Reality" (DTR), is introduced to assess the models' outputs against established historical facts. The results reveal a substantial potential for AI in historical studies, with GPT-4 demonstrating superior performance. This paper underscores the need for further research into AI's role in enriching our understanding of the past and bridging historical knowledge gaps.
