Quality monitoring (QM) with CUSUM system can result in potential economy in RMC through optimal control of target strength (by avoiding overdesign) on the one hand and through reduction of producers’ risk against rejection by the client on the other. To overcome the problems associated with the conventional 28-day compressive strength test, correlations are established between accelerated and the standard 28-day cube strength to predict the 28-day strength from the early age strength itself. This paper tried to demonstrate the lack of reliability of single correlation itself along the production time of RMC. The correlations vary with W/C as well as with type of cement. Hence it is demonstrated that correlation is concrete specific. Further, it is also demonstrated that correlation established with specimens having wide variation in the batching may result in poor correlation. Through CUSUM plots of mean and range for cube strength obtained by Monte-Carlo simulation demonstrate the utility of prediction through such correlation in QM and a methodology for monitoring the correlation itself.

This paper presents a new discrete counterpart of the mixture exponential distribution by utilizing the survival discretization method. The moment-generating function and associated moment measures are discussed. The distribution’s hazard rate function can assume increasing or decreasing forms, making it adaptable for diverse fields requiring count data modelling. The paper explores four distinct parameter estimation methods and assesses their performance through Monte Carlo simulations. The applicability of this distribution extends to time series analysis, particularly within the framework of the first-order integer-valued autoregressive process. Additionally, the paper explores quality control applications, addressing serial dependence challenges in count data encountered in production and market management. The performance of two distinct control charts, the cumulative sum chart and the exponentially weighted moving average chart, is evaluated for their effectiveness in detecting shifts in the process means under various models. A bivariate Markov chain approach is used to estimate the average run lengths of these charts, offering valuable insights for implementation. Design recommendations for achieving robustness in-control chart applications are provided. The effectiveness of the proposed models and charts is illustrated using a real data, demonstrating their practical superiority.

In recent times, there has been a growing interest in the use of control charts as a feedback process monitoring technique. Particularly, CUSUM schemes have been proven to be efficient for monitoring processes where the magnitude of the sustained mean shifts is small or moderate. However, because of the constant control limits, the detection ability of CUSUM schemes becomes slow at the initial set-up of the process. The fast initial response FIR feature has often been used to enhance it at the process startup. Meanwhile, the dynamism of real-life problems has always encouraged a more sensitive CUSUM scheme capable of detecting process shifts more rapidly. In this paper, an improved CUSUM scheme for monitoring process mean is proposed. This scheme will be substantial for monitoring processes whose observations are obtained at a distant time interval for example hourly, daily or weekly and where the sustained shifts are assumed to be small or moderate. To demonstrate the practical applications of the proposed scheme, we present its real-life application using datasets from a bottling company and petroleum refinery laboratory.

: Mistrust, amplified by numerous artificial intelligence (AI) related incidents, has caused the energy and industrial sectors to be amongst the slowest adopter of AI methods. Central to this issue is the black-box problem of AI, which impedes investments and fast becoming a legal hazard for users. Explainable AI (XAI) is a recent paradigm to tackle this challenge. Being the backbone of the industry, the prognostic and health management (PHM) domain has recently been introduced to XAI. However, many deficiencies, particularly lack of explanation assessment methods and uncertainty quantification, plague this young field. In this paper, we elaborate a framework on explainable anomaly detection and failure prognostic employing a Bayesian deep learning model to generate local and global explanations from the PHM tasks. An uncertainty measure of the Bayesian model is utilized as marker for anomalies expanding the prognostic explanation scope to include model’s confidence. Also, the global explanation is used to improve prognostic performance, an aspect neglected from the handful of PHM-XAI publications. The quality of the explanation is finally examined employing local accuracy and consistency properties. The method is tested on real-world gas turbine anomalies and synthetic turbofan data failure prediction. Seven out of eight of the tested anomalies were successfully identified. Additionally, the prognostic outcome showed 19% improvement in statistical terms and achieved the highest prognostic score amongst best published results on the topic.
