Abstract

The paper deals with the sensing system utilizing the standard single-mode optical fiber as a distributed sensor for detection, localization and classification of the mechanical vibrations that can be generated by various events such as walking or running people, moving cars, trains, etc. Sensor system capabilities were tested both in the laboratory and in the real situation with 88 km telecom optical link and the results are presented.
