Popular Preprints of the Decade Award 2016-2026

To celebrate Preprints.org's 10th anniversary, we're launching the Popular Preprints of the Decade Award. Across 11 subject categories, the 10 most popular preprints in each field, voted by you and the community, will be recognized. A total of 110 preprints will celebrate authors who have advanced early knowledge sharing, feedback exchange, and the growing acceptance of preprints in scholarly communication.

Preprints posted on Preprints.org between May 11, 2016, and May 10, 2026, are eligible. Make sure your preprint is submitted and posted by 23:59 GMT+1 May 10, 2026.

Public Voting Period
September 1 - November 30, 2026

Shortlisted preprints will be shown on this page for public voting. All eligible preprints will be reviewed by the Preprints.org Electoral Committee, consisting of our Advisory Board members, Screeners, and Editorial Office. 30 preprints per subject category (330 total) will be shortlisted.

Winner Announcement
December 2026

In each subject category, the 10 preprints with the highest number of votes will receive the award. The winners will be announced on this page and shared across Preprints.org social media channels.

Each awarded preprint will receive:

  • A Popular Preprints of the Decade Award electronic certificate.

  • Inclusion in the Popular Preprints of the Decade Collection.

  • Preprints must be posted on Preprints.org. Withdrawn preprints will not be considered.

  • Preprints posted between May 11, 2016, and May 10, 2026 are eligible.

  • Open to researchers at all career stages.

  • Shortlisted preprints are identified based on a combination of community engagement and overall research visibility, reflecting how the work has been accessed, discussed, and shared.

  • Additional contextual signals related to the research's development and its recognition may also be considered.

  • Preprints.org reserves the right to interpret, clarify, and apply these criteria as appropriate in the shortlisting process.
