Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) are currently one of the most popular species in rare bird breeding in several southern provinces of China, but there are very few studies on the gut microbial communities of domestic and wild mallards. In this study, 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing technology was used to compare the composition and diversity of gut microbial communities in domestic and wild mallards. Alpha diversity analysis revealed significant differences in the gut microbial communities of domestic and wild mallards. Beta diversity analysis showed that the two groups of stool samples were mostly separated on the principal coordinate analysis (PCOA) plot. In domestic mallards, Firmicutes (67.97%) was the most abundant bacterial phylum, followed by Proteobacteria (24.48%), Bacteroidetes (3.13%), Fusobacteria (2.21%), and Actinobacteria (1.10%). The dominant bacterial phyla in wild mallards were Firmicutes (79.02%), Proteobacteria (12.85%), Fusobacteria (3.37%), and Bacteroidetes (2.79%). At the genus level, a total of 10 dominant genera (Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Clostridium, Lactobacillus, Soilbacillus, Bacillus, Acinetobacter, Comamonas, Shigella, and Cetobacterium) with an average relative abundance greater than 1% were detected in the fecal samples of both groups. The average relative abundance of five potential pathogens (Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Acinetobacter, Comamonas, and Shigella) was higher in domestic mallards than in wild mallards. The enrichment of pathogenic bacteria in the intestinal tract of domestic mallards should be of sufficient concern.

Aims: The study aims to take the COVID-19 pandemic as an example to provide a scientific reference for diabetic patients’ self-health management and nurses’ work for these patients when facing future pandemics. Review Methods: It conducted a comprehensive literature search and analysed relevant texts. This article reviews the daily health management of diabetic patients in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the role that nurses should play in this process. Results: Diabetic patients face challenges in self-health management during the pandemic, including disruptions in healthcare access, increased mental problems, and unhealthy lifestyles. Nurses serve as the front-line interface between these patients and the healthcare system. Adopting telehealth and remote consultation has effectively bridged the gap created by social distancing measures. Conclusion: Daily self-health management can significantly improve glycemic control and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications, which is vital during the pandemic when patients may be experiencing disruptions to their routine care. Moreover, empowering patients through educational initiatives led by nurses can bring better self-monitoring, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications, all of which are crucial in mitigating the effects of diabetes on the body’s immune response, thus reducing the severity of COVID-19 if contracted.

Solid-liquid interfacial phenomena play an essential role in our everyday lives and are often regarded as the outcome of interactions at the solid-liquid interface. However, the intricately intrinsic mechanism underlying interfacial interactions renders in-situ simulations and direct measurements challenging. As an effective analytic method for studying solid-liquid interfacial interactions, Microcalorimetry can provide the most basic thermodynamic information (including changes in enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy during solid-liquid binding/separation processes), which is extremely crucial for understanding interaction directionality and limitation. This review is dedicated to highlighting the pivotal role of microcalorimetry in studying solid-liquid immersion and adsorption processes. Specifically, we provide an overview of the commonly employed microcalorimetric methods, delve into the influence factors of enthalpy change, and finally discuss the specific applications of microcalorimetry in studying various solid-liquid binding processes. There remains a vast expanse of thermodynamic information regarding solid-liquid interactions that await exploration via calorimetry.
