The deaf impairment is among the most substantial health problem worldwide, that can lead to various personal, economical, and social crisis. Therefore, it is critical for developing an efficient way to facilitate communication between deaf-dumb impaired and normal people. Herein, we have rationally designed a new digitally computerized and mobile smart system as an efficient communication tool between deaf impaired and normal Arabian people. This is based on two main steps, including creating a digital output for the hand gestures using gloves flex sensors equipped with a three-axis accelerometer that is controlled using a microcontroller. The digital results are compared to that in a words-based “database”, where Arabs use expressions not alphabet in their communication. The second step is translation or conversion the outputs of the first stage into written texts and voices. The newly developed system allows Arabian deaf to translate words of ordinary people into gestures using a speech recognition system with an impressive accuracy over 90 % without the needing for a webcam, colored gloves, and/or online translator. The presented system can be used on any android or windows.

Scientific research in the study of Human-Robot Interactions (HRI) has advanced significantly in recent years. Social humanoid robots have undergone severe testing and have been implemented in a variety of settings, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities and senior care centers. Humanoid robots have also been evaluated across diverse population groups. However, the research on different children-groups is still scarce, especially deaf children. This feasibility study includes both hearing children and deaf children, and aim to assess the interaction between children and a humanoid robot without the use of sounds and voices. In addition, an experiment was conducted where the children were asked to watch a video and then assess whether the NAO humanoid robot responded to the emotions shown in the video in a congruent or incongruent way. The findings indicated that there was no difference between the children who were present-ed with congruent emotions in the NAO as opposed to the children who were presented with in-congruent emotions in the robot. Only the ability to predict emotion in videos and gender were significant predictors of guessing the correct emotion in robot. Although no significantly differ-ence was found between hearing and deaf children, this feasibility study is intended to lay the groundwork for future research in this unexplored field of study.

This study was designed to extend the literature on multicomponent interventions for the children of deaf adults (CODA) population. This study used two evidence-based behavior intervention strategies: pre-session pairing (PSP) and independent group contingency (GC). These strategies have been successfully used to decrease off-task behavior in elementary school children with various abilities and diverse backgrounds. However, the research on multicomponent interventions has yet to examine their effects on the CODA population in inclusive classrooms. This study used a concurrent multiple baseline design across participants with an ABC sequence to examine teacher-implemented PSP with independent GC in reducing the off-task behavior of three CODAs in an inclusive classroom at a public elementary school. The results show that the intervention successfully decreased off-task behavior for all participating CODAs. The results suggest that CODAs can adapt to classroom rules and expectations when PSP and independent GC are systematically applied to them in classrooms.
