- Mobilization arises: a provocation activates hurt, protest, shame, humiliation, disappointment, anger, rejection pain, or frustrated need.
- The over-idealized figure cannot be viewed negatively: the interpersonal source of the affect is protected by attachment, belonging, moral coherence, fear, desirability, authority, or identity relevance.
- Negative affective mobilization is truncated and routed inward: outward throughput is appraised as unsafe, forbidden, futile, or relationally catastrophic, while deployable capacity for integration or boundary action narrows.
- NSSI becomes a state-transition action: the body becomes the immediate, private, controllable site through which pressure, numbness, shame, or self-directed affect can be rapidly altered.
