3.1.1. Fostering an Open Culture Around Mental Health On-Site
“The stigma of mental health, no one wants to be talking about mental health, we know a lot of organisations that don’t have that openness of it’s okay to not be okay as we say”. (FG403, Environmental Health and Safety Manager)

“I wasn’t very confident to be honest, I had one guy who would get very agitated, eventually I got to know him and understand him, but that first day, it really frightened me. It is a scary place at the beginning, and I won’t deny it. It’s completely intimidating, even still when I meet somebody new and if they are agitated it will frighten me, because you don’t know them, you know?”. Because if you go over to a guy and say ‘come here, are you alright?’ especially in construction, back to the macho thing, in two minutes you will be told where to go, who do you think you are?
