We present TOLGAN that generates traditional oriental landscape (TOL) image from a map that specifies the locations and shapes of the elements composing TOL. Users can create a TOL map by using a user interface or a segmentation scheme from a photograph. We design the generator of TOLGAN as a series of decoding layers where the map is applied between the layers. The generated TOL image is further enhanced through an AdaIN architecture. The discriminator of TOLGAN processes a generated image and its groundtruth TOL artwork image. TOLGAN is trained through a dataset composed of paired TOL artwork images and their TOL maps. We present a tool through which users can produce a TOL map by specifying and organizing the elements of TOL artworks. TOLGAN successfully generates a series of TOL images from the TOL map. We evaluate our approach using a quantitative way by estimating FID and ArtFID scores and a qualitative way by executing two user studies. Through these studies, we prove the excellence of our approach by comparing our results with those from several important existing works.

Chatbots are computer programs that use artificial intelligence to imitate human conversations. Recent advancements in deep learning have shown interest in utilizing language transformers, which do not rely on predefined rules and responses like traditional chatbots. This study provides a comprehensive review of previous research on chatbots that employ deep learning and transfer learning models. Specifically, it examines the current trends in using language transformers with transfer learning techniques to evaluate the ability of Arabic chatbots to understand conversation context and demonstrate natural behavior. The proposed methods explore the use of AraBERT, CAMeLBERT, AraElectra-SQuAD, and AraElectra (Generator/Discriminator) transformers, with different variants of these transformers and semantic embedding models. Two datasets were used for evaluation: one with 398 questions and corresponding documents, and another with 1395 questions and 365,568 documents sourced from Arabic Wikipedia. Extensive experimental works were conducted, evaluating both manually crafted questions and the entire set of questions, using confidence and similarity metrics. The experimental results showed that the AraElectra-SQuAD model achieved an average confidence score of 0.6422 and an average similarity score of 0.9773 on the first dataset, and an average confidence score of 0.6658 and similarity score of 0.9660 on the second dataset. The study concludes that the AraElectra-SQuAD model consistently outperformed other models, displaying remarkable performance, high confidence, and similarity scores, as well as robustness, highlighting its potential for practical applications in natural language processing tasks for Arabic chatbots. The study suggests that the AraElectra-SQuAD model can be further enhanced and applied in various tasks such as chatbots, virtual assistants, and information retrieval systems for Arabic-speaking users. By combining the power of transformer architecture with fine-tuning on SQuAD-like large data, this trend demonstrates its ability to provide accurate and contextually relevant answers to questions in Arabic.

In recent decades, the Variational AutoEncoder (VAE) model has shown good potential and capabilities in image generation and dimensionality reduction. The combination of VAE and various machine learning frameworks has also worked effectively in different daily life applications, however its possibility and effectiveness in modern game design has seldom been explored nor assessed. The use of its feature extractor for data clustering was minimally discussed in literature neither. This paper first attempts to explore different mathematical properties of the VAE model, in particular, the theoretical framework of the encoding and decoding processes, the possible achievable lower bound and loss functions of different applications; then applies the established VAE model into generating new game levels within two well-known game settings; as well as validating the effectiveness of its data clustering mechanism with the aid of the Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology (MNIST) database. Respective statistical metrics and assessments were also utilized for evaluating the performance of the proposed VAE model in aforementioned case studies. Based on the statistical and spatial results, several potential drawbacks and future enhancement of the established model were outlined, with the aim of maximizing the strengths and advantages of VAE for future game design tasks and relevant industrial missions.
