Quercetin (QUA), a flavonoid compound, is ubiquitously found in plants and has demonstrated a diverse range of biological activities. The primary objective of the present study is to assess the potential antiemetic properties of QUA using an in vivo and in silico approach. In this experiment, emesis was induced in 4-day-old chicks by orally administering copper sulfate pentahydrate (CuSO4.5H2O) at a dose of 50 mg/kg (orally). Domperidone (6 mg/kg), ondansetron (5 mg/kg), and hyoscine (21 mg/kg) were treated as positive controls (PCs), and distilled water was employed as a negative control (NC). QUA was administered orally at two distinct doses (25 and 50 mg/kg). Additionally, QUA (50 mg/kg) and PCs were administered separately or in combination to assess their antagonistic or synergistic effects on the chicks. The binding affinity of QUA and referral ligands towards 5HT3, D2, D3, and M1–M5 receptors was estimated, and ligand-receptor interactions were visualized through various computational tools. In vivo findings indicate that QUA (25 and 50 mg/kg) has a significant effect on reducing the number of retches (16.50 ± 4.65 and 10.00 ± 4.19 times) and increasing the chick latency period (59.25 ± 4.75 and 94.25 ± 4.01 seconds), respectively. Additionally, QUA (50 mg/kg) in combination with domperidone and ondansetron exhibited superior antiemetic effects, reducing the number of retches and increasing the onset of emesis-inducing time. Furthermore, it is worth noting that QUA demonstrated the strongest binding affinity towards the D2 receptor with a value of -9.7 kcal/mol through the formation of hydrogen and hydrophobic bonds. In summary, the study found that QUA exhibited antiemetic activity in chicks, potentially by interacting with the D2 receptor pathway.

Aim: This analytical cross-sectional study aimed to examine whether there is a correlation between tumor differentiation and certain biomarkers in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: Poorly differentiated (n=443), moderately differentiated (n=379), and well-differentiated (n=272) tumors were separated from the research population, along with a control group (n=364). Biopsies were used to establish the presence of HCC, and biomarker levels were analyzed using chemiluminescence immunoassays in both infected and uninfected individuals. Results: The correlation between age and tumor size was shown to be statistically significant (p0.05) across all subgroups using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Patients with hepatitis C virus and non-A, non-B hepatitis had more advanced tumors than those with other types of poorly differentiated liver cancer. Similarly, individuals with HBsAg and moderate differentiation had bigger tumors, although there was no correlation between hepatitis C and non-A, non-B. Patients with HBsAg or hepatitis C had bigger tumors in the well-differentiated group, albeit the hepatitis C connection was not statistically significant. In addition, the study stressed that tumor size increases with age and that farmers were the most commonly diagnosed profession category. Conclusions: It is clear that early detection in infected populations is crucial for improving HCC outcomes and that chemiluminescence immunoassay has the potential to be a helpful platform for biomarker research. However, the study is limited by its small sample size and its emphasis on only three tumor markers, indicating that more biomarker research is required to improve the accuracy of HCC diagnosis and prognosis.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of eugenol against the genomic DNA of Candida albicans. A quantitative experimental study was conducted with the C. albicans INCQS 40006 strain. Eugenol was tested in concentrations of 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. The test substance remained in contact with the fungus for 24 hours in a BHI medium in a microbio-logical greenhouse, then the DNA extraction was performed and part of the sample obtained was washed with TE to remove the Eugenol. The fungus was placed in BHI again and placed for 24 hours in a microbiological greenhouse. At the end, the samples with 100% eugenol went through seeds in Sabouraud Dextrose for confirmatory tests. Thus, from the electrophoresis, which admits evaluating the quality of the extracted material, preserving its characteristics and integrity, it was observed in the eugenol concentration test (test 1), in which the eugenol was in direct contact with the pathogen, that in concentrations of equal to or greater than 75% of the test substance the pathogen had no proliferative power. In which the fungus's ability to recover is evaluated (test 2), eugenol was removed from the sample, noting that in 100% of the test substance the fungus did not have the ability to recover, resulting in definitive cell death.

The study aimed to optimize protocols for the joint extraction of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) from 0.025 x 106 CFU of Candida albicans, aiming to overcome challenges in the extraction of these genetic materials. From this, treated Silicon Carbide (SiC) granules were added to fungal samples from methods 1, 2 and 3 obtained from aliquots of BHI or Sabouraud medium to cause cell lysis and enable the isolation of these macromolecules by phenol and chloroform. The concentration and integrity of nucleic acids were obtained, respectively, by spectrophotometry using A260/A280 ratios and 1% agarose gel electrophoresis. Therefore, method 3 is the one that most comprises samples considered pure of both DNA and RNA, simultaneously. Furthermore, the presence of intact RNAs corresponding to the base pair size, such as 5.8 S rRNA and tRNA, was verified during electrophoresis, taking into account the particularities of RNA, which makes it very unstable and easily degraded. Therefore, it results in a faster and simpler method in addition to obtaining promising results using minimal amounts of biological sample, thus offering a valuable alternative for small laboratories working with molecular biology.
