Abstract : Background : porcine cysticercosis is an endemic parasitic zoonosis in many developing countries. The objective was to estimate the seroprevalence of porcine cysticercosis in traditional pig farms in the departments of Dabou, Aboisso and Agboville where blood samples were taken from pigs and analyzed by ELISA (IgG) and western blot. Data on farming practices and pig characteristics were collected. Categorical variables were compared with the Chi2 test and continuous variables with the Student test. Multivariate logistic regression models were constructed to identify risk factors. Results: A total of 668 pigs were sampled from 116 farms. The seroprevalence of cysticercosis was estimated at 13.2%. Overweight [ORa=2.6; 95%CI(1.3-4.9)] and fat pigs [ORa=2.3; 95%CI(1.0-4.8)] were twice as likely to be seropositive for cysticercosis. This risk was increased in farms using well water for drinking [aOR=2.5; 95%CI(1.0-6.3)] as well as those reporting veterinary care of the animals (ORa=2.9; 95%CI (1.2-7.3)). Conclusions: This study demonstrated the circulation of T. solium in pig farms in southern Côte d'Ivoire.

Eutrophication in the Lobo watershed remains a major problem. The work carried out has focused on chemical and biological analyzes in the lake or in its immediate environment: they did not sufficiently take into account the diffuse transfer of nutrients over the entire watershed. This study aims to assess the nutrient (N and P) loads in the Lobo watershed, an agricultural area, to understand the spatio-temporal impacts of land management practices on eutrophication. The methodology uses two steps: streamflow calibration and nutrient (N and P) estimation using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) watershed model. Thus, the nutrient inputs were estimated based on the levels of N and P in every kilogram of NPK-type fertilizers applied by farmers. The average quantities of N and P applied to the crops were 47.24 kg N/ha and 21.25 kg P/ha. Results show a good performance on flow calibration as evidenced by evaluation criteria R2, NSE and PBIAS of 0.63, 0.62 and -8.1, respectively. The yields of inorganic N and soluble P varied from 0 to 0.049 kg N/ha and from 0 to 0.31 kg P/ha. These results show that the crops’ in-organic nitrogen requirements were higher than the demands for soluble phosphorus. Simulations relating to the organic N transfer revealed values ranging from 0.2 to 5 kg N/ha, while the transport of organic phosphorus was estimated to vary from 0.3 to 1.3 kg P/ha.

CO2, CH4 and CO are the most critical atmospheric gases in terms of their impact on the radiative system, air quality and health. This work provides information on the direction of source areas and potential sources of emissions and shows many aspects of these gases by a statistical analysis using bivariate polar diagrams and local weather conditions (e.g., temperature, wind speed and wind direction) recorded at the Lamto station (LTO, 6°31N and 5°02W) in Côte d’Ivoire over the 2014-2018 period. The results show that the main regions contributing to the high concentrations of CH4 (> 1925 ppb) and CO2 (> 420 ppm) in the GSS, GSP, PSS and PSP seasons are the North and Northwest sectors of Lamto. In these directions, CH4 and CO2 concentrations are associated with wind speeds less than 6 m.s-1, due to the influences of local sources as emissions resulting from the degradation of organic matter submerged during the impoundment of the Taabo dam, and/nor human activities linked to the practice of intensive agriculture. In addition, the high concentrations of CO (> 350 ppb) are observed in GSS in the North, North-West, North-East and East sectors for wind speeds less than or equal to 9 m.s-1, due to the influences of both local and distant sources. The correlation coefficients between CH4 and CO, and between CH4 and CO2 are positive and significant in all sectors. However, those calculated between CO2 and CO have showed both low and high values in all seasons.
