A year of building a more open and connected community
Over the past decade, Preprints.org has evolved alongside a growing global community of researchers who believe in faster, more open, and more inclusive research communication. In 2025, for the first time, we exceeded 30,000 preprints posted in a single year and achieved the 100,000 total posted preprints milestone. Behind these numbers is a diverse and engaged community contributing not only through posting and reading preprints but also through discussion, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas that help strengthen open science.
As we enter our next decade, we hope to foster even deeper engagement between researchers and the platform, beyond posting and reading preprints, and through fostering discussion and dialogue that can help shape a more open research ecosystem. Through this annual report, we share key posting metrics, disciplinary insights, editorial operations, platform developments, and community initiatives from the past year—not only as a reflection on our progress, but also as part of an ongoing conversation with the community we serve.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the community. Thank you for helping make the platform a vibrant space for early research dissemination and discussion. We also extend our sincere gratitude to our Advisory Board members and screeners for their continued support in upholding the platform’s research rigour.
