4.1. Design of the Study and Selection of Samples
- Age ≥18 years
- Orthodontic treatment in progress with invisible aligners (upper arch)
- Worn documented ≥20 hours per day
- Absence of active carious lesions visible at the time of sampling
- Absence of clinically evident gingivitis or periodontitis
- Availability to sign an informed written consent
- Antibiotic or systemic antimicrobial therapy in the previous 2 weeks
- Systemic immunosuppressive or chronic diseases
- Pharmacological therapies that alter the oral flora (antihistamines, corticosteroids, etc.)
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Use of oral antiseptic products within 48 hours prior to sampling
