Abstract
The study assesses the Potential Forest Production Area (PFPA) of Wangdue Phodrang, Bhutan, in the context of sustainable forest management. Using spatial multi-criteria analysis, the study identified 205,779.9 hectares (slope ≤ 45°) and 84,618.3 hectares (slope ≤ 35°) as potential production areas. The analysis revealed a decline in PFPA compared to 2013, attributed to illegal timber harvesting and ineffective regulations. The study emphasizes maintaining Bhutan’s constitutional commitment to 60% forest cover while addressing growing resource demands. The findings highlight the importance of periodic assessments and effective forest management practices for sustainable resource utilization and environmental conservation.
