Operational Solutions’ Tracks Co-Constructed with Key Informants on How to Manage Financial Issues Related to a WHOCC
- a.
-
WHOCC-hosting institution
- -
- Secure basic financial resources for CC’s functioning.
- -
- Use some CCs’ activities (trainings, expertise tasks, research funding) to generate financial outcomes to cover some CCs’ expenses.
- -
- Open funding sources at the hosting organization that CCs could go to for funding for some projects.
- -
- Control for financial conflicts of interest for CC and for the hosting institution (funding from industrial bodies having interests in products impacting health).
- b.
-
WHO-CCs
- -
- Involve under the auspices of WHO, whenever possible, industrial bodies as partners in global projects: charter controlling for conflicts of interest and assuring representativeness, equity and diversity.
- -
- Support from WHO at country-level highlighting the major role of CCs and the need for the country to support them, including financially whenever possible.
- c.
-
CC-external partners
- -
- Seek financial support from country-level public health authorities by showing them the concrete applications at a country-level of some CC activities.
- -
- Some research funds might be sensitive to CC label and activities.
Operational Solutions’ Tracks Co-Constructed with Key Informants on How to Manage Communication Issues Related to the Specific Relationship Between WHO and Its Collaborating Centres
- -
- Increase capability of CCs to be WHO ambassadors and to be credited with reliable and updated information on global efforts in a specific health area: provide timely information on topics of collaboration to CCs whose scope is impacted. Giving access to CCs executives to some tagged information (keywords defining their scope) available online in WHO system could be a costless option. Requirement would be thus to fully respect WHO confidentiality levels of information sharing.
- -
- Fight overlapping public health efforts (global, regional, and cross-cutting working groups): communicate to impacted CCs and to all WHO departments and offices about ongoing WHO activities in specific health topics or goals to create synergies and warrant coherence. The previous tagged information system proposed could also be an interesting option here.
- -
- Sustain current CCs’ motivation and inspire organizations to collaborate with WHO through public acknowledgement. Regular posting in a dedicated webpage of major achievements performed with support from CCs could be an interesting and costless option.
