Patients with low back pain often have deficits in trunk stability. For this reason, many patients receive physiotherapy treatment, which represents an enormous socio-economic burden. Training at home could reduce these costs. The prob-lem here is the lack of correction of the exercise execution. This feasibility study therefore investigates the applicability of a vibrotactile-controlled feedback system for trunk stabilization exercises. A sample of 13 healthy adults performed three trunk stabilization exercises. Exercise performance was corrected by physiotherapists using vibrotactile feedback. The NASA TLX questionnaire was used to assess the practicability of the vibrotactile feedback. The Nasa TLX questionnaire show a very low global workload M = 37.96 (SD =11.63). The quality of feedback perception was perceived as good by the subjects, varying between 76.9 % and 92.3 % depending on the body part. 80.8 % rated the feedback as helpful for their training. On the expert side, the results show a high rating of movement quality. The positive evaluations of the physiotherapists and the participants on the use of the vibrotactile feedback system indi-cate that such a system can reduce the trainees fear of independent training and support the users in their training. This could increase training adherence and long-term success.

Reference evapotranspiration (ET0) is the first step in calculating crop irrigation demand, and numerous methods have been proposed to estimate this parameter. FAO-56 Penman-Monteith (PM) is the only standard method for defining and calculating ET0. However, it requires radiation, air temperature, atmospheric humidity, and wind speed data, limiting its application in regions where these data are unavailable; therefore, new alternatives are required. This study compared the accuracy of ET0 calculated with the Blaney-Criddle (BC) and Hargreaves-Samani (HS) methods versus PM using information from an automated weather station (AWS) and the NASA-POWER platform (NP) for different periods of time. The information collected corresponding at Module XII of the Lagunera Region Irrigation District 017, a semi-arid region in the North of Mexico. The HS method underestimated by 5.5 % the reference evapotranspiration (ET0) compared to the PM method during the period from March to August, and yielded the best fit in the different evaluation periods: daily, average, and 5-day cumulative; the latter showed the best values of inferential parameters. The information about maximum and minimum temperatures from the NP platform was suitable for estimating ET0 using the HS equation. This data source is a timely alternative, particularly in semi-arid regions where no data from weather stations are available.

This paper explores the development of life support systems (LSS) for human space exploration, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to support long-term missions beyond Low Earth Orbit. As humanity seeks to explore and potentially colonize distant planets, maintaining a habitable environment in space poses significant challenges. Life support systems must manage air quality, water supply, temperature, humidity, and waste while ensuring crew safety in environments devoid of breathable air and exposed to harmful cosmic radiation. The International Space Station's (ISS) Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) represents a significant advancement, demonstrating that humans can live in space for extended periods with a combination of recycling and Earth-based resupply. However, future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond require more advanced, self-sustaining systems. This paper examines technological advancements such as closed-loop systems, bio-regenerative life support systems (BLSS), and In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), focusing on their potential to reduce reliance on Earth-based resupply. Projects like NASA's Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE) and ESA's MELiSSA initiative offer promising solutions for future deep space exploration. By enhancing recycling, integrating ISRU, and improving energy efficiency, future life support systems will support humanity's journey into the cosmos, paving the way for sustainable space exploration and eventual colonization.

HTA introduced by Annett and Duncan is widely recognized for breaking down complex tasks into manageable subtasks, data, and quantitative analysis confirming its effectiveness are limited. By combining the HTA with the NASA Workload Index (NASA-TLX), a subjective workload assessment tool, this study aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of task performance and workload. The project involved assembling a three-jaw chuck with HTA for process definition and subtasks, while NASA-TLX was used for workload determination. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation forms and analyzed to determine the impact of HTA on task performance and workload distribution. The results show that HTA effectively identifies task complexity and bottlenecks, which facilitates task optimization and improves performance. The NASA-TLX integration provides critical insights into individuals' subjective workload and targets areas where task performance and resource allocation can be improved. This study shows that combining HTA and NASA-TLX provides a holistic approach to understanding and improving task performance, ultimately leading to better user experience and productivity.

The objective of this study was to analyze the mental workload using EEG and eye tracking data and classify it using machine learning algorithms. The machine learning model was developed based on the simultaneous recording of eye tracking and EEG measurements during the experimental process. The experiments involved 15 university students, consisting of 7 women and 8 men. Throughout the experiments, the researchers utilized the n-back memory task and the NASA-Task Load Index (TLX) subjective rating scale to assess various levels of mental workload. The findings revealed that as the task difficulty increased, there was an increase in the diameter of both the right and left pupils, the number of fixations, the number and duration of saccades, and the number and duration of blinks. Conversely, variables related to fixation duration decreased. The EEG results indicated that theta power in the prefrontal, frontal, and front central regions increased with task difficulty. Additionally, alpha power increased in the frontal regions but decreased in the temporal, parietal, and occipital regions as the task became more challenging. Furthermore, low beta power significantly decreased in almost all brain regions as the task difficulty increased. In terms of the four-class classification problem, the mental workload level can be predicted with an accuracy rate of 76.59% using 34 selected features. This study has made a significant contribution to the literature by presenting a four-class mental workload estimation model that utilizes different machine learning algorithms.

As digitalization expands across all sectors, the economic toll of software defects on the U.S. economy reaches up to $2.41 trillion annually. High-profile incidents like the Boeing 787-Max 8 crash have shown the devastating potential of these defects, highlighting the critical importance of software testing within quality assurance frameworks. However, due to its complexity and resource intensity, the exhaustive nature of comprehensive testing often surpasses budget constraints. This research utilizes a machine learning (ML) model to enhance software testing decisions by pinpointing areas most susceptible to defects and optimizing scarce resource allocation. Previous studies have shown promising results using cost-sensitive training to refine ML models, improving predictive accuracy by reducing false negatives through addressing class imbalances in defect prediction datasets. This approach facilitates more targeted and effective testing efforts. Nevertheless, the generalizability of these models across different projects (cross-project) and programming languages (cross-language) remained untested. This study validates the model's applicability across diverse development environments by integrating various datasets from distinct projects into a unified, using a more interpretable ML approach. The results demonstrate that ML can support software testing decisions, enabling teams to identify up to seven times more defective modules with the same testing effort as a benchmark.

Three significant changes have occurred in the winter climate in Europe recently: increased UK flooding; Iberian drought; and warmer temperatures north of the Alps. The literature links all three to a persistent, significant increase in sea level pressure over Southern Europe, the Mediterranean, Iberia and the Eastern Atlantic (SEMIEA) which changes the atmospheric circulation system: forcing cold fronts to the north away from Iberia; and creating a south westerly flow around the northern perimeter of the high-pressure region bringing warmer, moist air from the subtropical Atlantic to the UK and Europe which increases precipitation in the UK and raises the temperature in Europe. I use the Last Millennium Ensemble, MERRA-2 and Terra-NCEP data to demonstrate that the extreme, anthropogenic, West African aerosol Plume (WAP) which only exists from December to April perturbs the northern, regional Hadley Circulation creating the high pressure in the SEMIEA. I also show that the anthropogenic WAP has only existed in its extreme form in recent decades as the two major sources of the WAP aerosols: biomass burning; and gas flaring have both increased significantly since 1950 due to: a four-fold increase in population; and gas flaring rising from zero to 7.4 billion m3/annum and note that this time span coincides with the changes in the three elements of the winter climate of Europe. I also suggest that it may be possible to eliminate the WAP and return the winter climate of Europe to its natural state after the crucial first step of recognising the cause of the changes is taken.
