Abstract

The study concentrated on Myzostomida, which are microscopic polychaetes that live in symbiosis with feather stars, within the coastal waters of Hainan Island. Specimens were collected by researchers using SCUBA diving techniques, leading to the identification of a new species, as well as the documentation of four species that had not been previously recorded in Chinese waters. This discovery stands apart from the seven known Myzostomida species found near Hong Kong and the Dapeng Peninsula in Shenzhen. It underscores significant gaps in our comprehension of marine life in the South China Sea, suggesting the existence of unexplored biodiversity within the region.
