Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurring seizures resulting from abnormal neuronal hyperexcitability. In the case of pharmacoresistant epilepsy requiring resection surgery, identifying the epileptogenic zone (EZ) is crucial. Fast ripples (FRs; 200-600 Hz) are one of the promising biomarkers that can aid in EZ delineation. However, recording FRs requires small surface electrodes. These microelectrodes suffer from high impedance, which significantly impacts FR observability and detection. In this study, we explored the potential of a conductive polymer coating to enhance FR observability. We employed biophysical modeling to compare two types of microelectrodes: Gold (Au) and Au coated with the conductive polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrene sulfonate) (Au/PEDOT:PSS). These electrodes were then implanted in the CA1 hippocampal neural network of epileptic mice to record FRs during epileptogenesis. Results showed that polymer-coated electrodes demonstrate two-order lower impedance and a higher transfer function amplitude and cut-off frequency. Consequently, FRs recorded with the PEDOT:PSS coated microelectrode yielded significantly higher signal energy compared to the uncoated one. The coating with PEDOT:PSS improved the observability of recorded FRs and therefore their detection. This work paves the way for the development of signal-specific microelectrodes design allowing better targeting of pathological biomarkers.

Hippocampus plays a crucial role in spatial and episodic memory. The acquisition of new memories is impossible without participation of the hippocampus. There are two main functional states or “modes” of the hippocampal activity, theta and non-theta state. They have different behavioral correlates and clearly different spectral content of the LFPs and neuronal spiking. Hippocampal theta state is present under active exploratory behavior, locomotion, cognitive situations requiring attention and REM sleep. Slow-wave sleep and quiet wakefulness (immobility, eating, grooming) represent the non-theta hippocampal state. The nodal point for the regulation of hippocampal activity is the MS. The activation or suppression of different types of MS cells appears to be responsible for controlling hippocampal theta and non-theta states. Functional coupling between MS neurons and hippocampal interneurons varies in a state-dependent manner.

This research work deals hybrid control system based integrated Cuk converter fed brushless DC motor (BLDCM) for power factor correction. In this work, moth-flame optimization (MFO) and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) has been combined and moth –flame fuzzy logic controller (MFOFLC) has been proposed. Firstly, the BLDC motor modelling is composed with power factor correction (PFC) based integrated Cuk converter and BLDC speed is regulated using variable DC-Link inverter voltage which makes low switching operation with less switched losses. Here, with the use of switched inductor, the task and execution of proposed converter is redesigned. The DBR (diode bridge rectifier) trailed by proposed PFC based integrated Cuk converter operates in discontinuous inductor conduction mode(DICM) for achievement of better power factor.MFO is exhibited for gathering of dataset from the input voltage signal. At that point separated datasets is send to FLC to improve the updating function and minimization of torque ripple. However, our main objective is to assess adequacy of proposed method, the power factor is broke down. The execution of the proposed control methodology is executed in MATLAB/Simulink working platform and the display is assessed with the existing techniques.

The group delay response of chirped fiber Bragg gratings (CFBG) written in polarization-maintaining fiber can be measured using the beat spectrum of the reflections from the two polarization axis, with a resolution and reproducibility better than 50 fs. The method is theoretically described, and we analyze the effect of group delay ripples (GDR) on the performance of a stretcher-compressor pair used in chirped pulse amplification systems. Ripples with a spectral period of the order of the pulse bandwidth are the most deleterious. Those are readily captured with our method, despite the limit on resolution due to the fiber polarization beat length. As a rule of thumb, the GDR should not exceed half the pulse duration. The reconstructed phase of the CFBG is also used to predict the pulse compression performance for a given device. Measurement of GDR as low as 161 fs is experimentally demonstrated.

Sleep is still considered a mystery, despite intense scientific investigation. Here we present the first complete biological theory of sleep. The role of sleep is to restore the optimal homeostatic state, which is essential for tissue performance and health. Non-rapid eye movement sleep (NREMS) restores cortical and most other brain neurons, via relaxed global activity managed by thalamocortical circuits. The role of REM sleep is to restore acetylcholine (ACh) neurons, which support focused responses and hence cannot participate in global oscillations. Sleep enhances learning and memory via state restoration and ACh-affected paths. NREMS induces a lack of consciousness because global synchronous activity prevents focused responses, which are essential for consciousness. Dreams result from focused neural firing during sharp-wave ripples and REMS, and have a sense of reality because they involve the same neurons representing focused perceptual responses during wake. Anesthetics utilize a variety of mechanisms that prevent focused responses.
