A finite-type immersion or smooth map is a nice tool to classify submanifolds of Euclidean space, which comes from eigenvalue problem of immersion. The notion of generalized 1-type is a natural generalization of those of 1-type in the usual sense and pointwise 1-type. We classify ruled surfaces with generalized 1-type Gauss map as part of a plane, a circular cylinder, a cylinder over a base curve of an infinite type, a helicoid, a right cone and a conical surface of $G$-type.

In this paper, we introduce the notion of pointwise hemi-slant submanifolds of nearly Kaehler manifolds. Further, we study their warped products and prove the necessary and sufficient condition that a pointwise hemi-slant submanifold to be a warped product manifold. Also, we prove that every pointwise hemi-slant warped product submanifold $M=M_\perp\times_fM_\theta$ which is mixed totally geodesic in an arbitrary nearly Kaehler manifold $\tilde M$ satisfies $\|h\|^2\geq\frac{2p}{9}\cos^2\theta\|\nabla(\ln f)\|^2,$ where $\|h\|$ is the length of the second fundamental form of $M$ and $2p=\dim M_\theta$; while $\nabla(\ln f)$ is the gradient of $\ln f$ along $M_\perp$. Inverse problems of recovering surface fluxes on the boundary of a domain from pointwise observations are considered. Sharp conditions on the data ensuring existence and uniqueness of solutions in Sobolev classes are exposed. They are smoothness conditions on the data, geometric conditions on the location of measurement points, and the boundary of a domain. The proof relies on asymptotics of fundamental solutions to the corresponding elliptic problems and the Laplace transform. The problem is reduced to a linear algebraic system with a nondegerate matrix.

By generalizing the notion of pointwise 1-type Gauss map, the generalized 1-type Gauss map has been recently introduced. Without any assumption, we classified all possible ruled surfaces with generalized 1-type Gauss map in a 3-dimensional Minkowski space. In particular, null scrolls do not have the proper generalized 1-type Gauss map. In fact, it is harmonic.
