For a dynamical system, it is known that the existence of a Lyapunov density implies almost global stability of an equilibrium. It is then natural to ask whether the existence of a common Lyapunov density for a nonlinear switched system implies almost global stability, in the same way as a common Lyapunov function implies global stability for nonlinear switched systems. In this work, the answer to this question is shown to be affirmative as long as switchings satisfy a dwell-time constraint with an arbitrarily small dwell time. As a straightforward extension of this result, we employ multiple Lyapunov densities in analogy with the role of multiple Lyapunov functions for the global stability of switched systems. This gives rise to a minimum dwell time estimate to ensure almost global stability of nonlinear switched systems, when a common Lyapunov density does not exist. The results obtained for continuous-time switched systems are based on some sufficient conditions for the almost global stability of discrete-time non-autonomous systems. These conditions are obtained using the duality between Frobenius-Perron operator and Koopman operator.

Phase synchronization of weakly coupled limit cycle oscillators are related to the stability of the zero solution of the reduced-order dynamics of phase differences, represented by a systems of differential equations on a hypertorus. Using Rantzer's density function, a dual form of Lyapunov function, we propose a method to certify almost global stability of an equilibrium on a hypertorus. We show that the proposed method can certify robustness of phase synchronization of all-to-all and weakly coupled limit cycle oscillators with respect to disturbances in phases. The method leverages sum of squares polynomial optimization to construct the certification function.

Based on previous research results, we propose a new preprocessing HSS iteration method (PHSS) for the generalized Lyapunov equation. At the same time, the corresponding inexact PHSS algorithm (IPHSS) is given from the angle of application. All the new methods presented in this paper have given the corresponding convergence proof. The numerical experiments are carried out to compare the new method with the existing methods, and the improvement effect is obvious. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are proved from two aspects of theory and calculation.

This paper proposes an imperfectly vaccinated SVEIR model for latent age. We calculate the equilibrium points and basic reproduction number of the model. The asymptotic smoothness, uniform persistence and the existence of the attractor of the semi-flow generated by the solutions of the system are addressed. Moreover, using LaSalle’s invariance set principle and constructing Volterra-type Lyapunov functions, we can prove the global asymptotic stability of both the disease-free equilibrium and the endemic equilibrium of the model. The conclusion is that if the basic reproduction number R0 is less than one, the disease will gradually disappear. On the other hand, if the number is greater than one, the disease will become endemic and persist. Finally, measures that can effectively control the ongoing transmission of the disease have been obtained.

In real financial market, the delayed market feedback and the delayed effect of government macro-control are inevitable. And both the delay of market feedback and the delay of macro-control effect bring about the mathematical difficulties in studying stabilization and synchronization of the hyper-chaotic financial system. However, employing Lyapunov function method, differential mean value theorem, suitable bounded hypotheses and pulse control technology results in the globally asymptotical stabilization and synchronization criteria. It is the first paper to drive the stabilization and synchronization criteria under the assumptions of the double delays. Finally, numerical examples illuminate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper focuses on the problem of finite-time stabilization of homogeneous, non-Lipschitz systems with dilations. A key contribution of this paper is the design of a virtual recursive Hölder, non-Lipschitz state feedback which renders the non-Lipschitz systems in the special case dominated by a lower-triangular nonlinear system, finite-time stable. The proof is based on a recursive design algorithm developed recently, to construct the virtual Hölder continuous, finite-time stabilizer as well as a C¹ positive definite and proper Lyapunov function that guarantees finite-time stability of the non-Lipschitz non-linear systems.

Doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG) find extensive application in variable-speed wind power plants, providing notable advantages such as cost-effectiveness, operational flexibility across varying speeds, and enhanced power quality. This research focuses on the control of DFIGs employed in variable-speed wind turbine configurations. A suitable mathematical model is chosen for representative systems following a comprehensive review of contemporary research. Subsequent analysis reveals the instability of the open-loop time response of the system. To address this instability, the initial approach involves the implementation of the conventional Model Predictive Controller (MPC). However, the outcomes indicate that this controller falls short of delivering satisfactory performance despite the enhanced stability. In the subsequent phase, efforts are made to mitigate the impact of wind input variability by utilizing the Kalman filter, given its effectiveness in handling high variability. Following this, a novel methodology is introduced, which combines nonlinear MPC with the Lyapunov function. This method is based on the nonlinear model of the system. By using the Lyapunov function in the nonlinear MPC structure, the stability of the designed controller is guaranteed. The simulation results conducted using MATLAB software show that the output variables of the modeled DFIG system achieve stability within a reasonable timeframe applying the input.

This paper investigates reachable set estimation and state-feedback controller design for linear time-delay control system with bounded disturbances. First, by constructing an appropriate Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, we obtained a delay-dependent condition, which determed the admissible bounding ellipsoid for the reachable set of the system we considered. Then, a sufficient condition in form of liner matrix inequalities is given to solve the problem of controller design with reachable set estimation. Finally, by minimizing the volume of the ellipsoid and solving the liner matrix inequality, we obtain the desired ellipsoid and controller gain. A comparative numerical example is given to verify the usefulness of our result.

This research work aims to develop a mathematical modeling for production-inventory systems. Two mathematical models are present: An infinite dimensional, partial differential equation (PDE), production level modeling is present and a finite dimensional system for a coupled dynamic pricing, production rate and inventory level ordinary differential equations (ODE), integrating a proper Lyapunov stability analysis of the dynamical system and simulations.

The system identification problem with multiple nonlinearities is relevant. Its decision depends on many factors. These include: feedbacks, the method of connecting nonlinear links, signal properties. They affect the identifiability of the system parameters. We introduced a condition for the excitation constancy for state variables, which considers the S-identifiability of the system. We propose system decomposition by measuring input to identify parameters. Each subsystem has an implicit identification representation. It guarantees obtaining estimates of subsystem parameters based on experimental data. The trajectories boundedness of adaptive system proved in parametric and coordinate spaces. Conditions guaranteeing exponential stability of the system obtained. Systems of self-oscillation generation and nonlinear correction of a nonlinear system consider. Conditions for the trajectories boundedness of the adaptive system obtained for these cases. The influence of nonlinearity and feedback on the system performance estimated.

Fractals and multifractals are well-known trademarks of nonlinear dynamics and classical chaos. The goal of this work is to tentatively uncover the unforeseen path from multifractals and selfsimilarity to the framework of effective field theory (EFT). An intriguing finding is that the partition function of multifractal geometry includes a signature analogous to that of gravitational interaction. Our results also suggest that multifractal geometry may offer insights into the non-renormalizable interactions presumed to develop beyond the Standard Model scale.

By partly generalizing the Lipschitz condition of existing results to the generalized Lipschitz one, the author utilizes a fixed point theorem, variational method and Lyapunov function method to derive the unique existence of globally asymptotical input-to-state stability of positive stationary solution for Gilpin-Ayala competition model with diffusion and delayed feedback under Dirichlet zero boundary value. Remarkably, it is the first paper to derive the unique existence of the stationary solution of reaction-diffusion Gilpin-Ayala competition model, which is globally asymptotical input-to-state stability. And numerical examples illuminate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods.

The structural identification (SI) problem of control objects has not been solved. The formalization and interpretation complexity of the structure concept is the main problem. In identification systems, the form of the model (its structure) choice is intuitive and bases on the experience and knowledge of the researcher in most cases. The task of parametric identification is often interpreted as SI. It introduces certain confusion in understanding of the task and decision-making. This is two different areas of research. The structural identification problem is multifaceted and includes many subtasks, and their solution gives the final result. Some tasks have been solved. The purpose of this work is to review existing approaches and methods to the structural identification problem of control objects from a system perspective. It is necessary to give the SI problem statement at the multiple-informational level to reflect the difficulties of formalizing SI. New directions to analyse that were not SI areas until now.

The adaptive identification method developed to evaluate the parameters of the Bouc-Wen hysteresis (BWH). The adaptive approach based on the use of adaptive observers. We synthesize adaptive identification algorithms using the second Lyapunov method. The boundedness of adaptive system processes shown in coordinate and parametric spaces. We prove exponential dissipativity of processes in an adaptive system. Estimating method proposed for signaling uncertainty in the system.

Financial system is essentially chaotic and unstable if there is not any external inputs. By means of Lyapunov function method, design of switching law, novel fuzzy assumption, $L^p$ estimation technique and Laplace semigroup theory, the author presents the boundedness and LMI-based (globally) asymptotical input-to-state stability criteria of financial systems. Particularly, the globally asymptotical stability in the meaning of switching implies that when the time $t$ is big enough, the dynamic of any subsystem must approach its unique equilibrium point. Besides, the global financial crisis often erupts periodically, which illuminates that the global stability in the classical sense is actually meaningless. So the stability in the meaning of switching proposed in this paper is suitable and appropriate. Numerical examples illuminate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

We consider a model of predator-prey interaction at fractional-order where the predation obeys the ratio-dependent functional response and the prey is linearly harvested. For the proposed model, we show the existence, uniqueness, non-negativity as well as the boundedness of the solutions. Conditions for the existence of all possible equilibrium points and their stability criteria, both locally and globally, are also investigated. The local stability conditions are derived using the Magtinon's theorem, while the global stability is proven by formulating an appropriate Lyapunov function. The occurance of Hopf bifurcation around the interior point is also shown analytically. At the end, we implement the Predictor-Corrector scheme to perform some numerical simulations.

This research not only dedicated a less restrictive method of iteration-varying function for a learning control law to design a controller but also synchronize two nonlinear systems with free time-delay. In addition, the mathematical theory of system synchronization has proved rigorously and the theory verified through an example to demonstrate the behavior of each parameter in the theory. The design of a controller using the iterative learning control law is significant for robotic tracking. The controller in this research generates a feed-forward control input using the error dynamics among the drive-response systems. The error dynamics satisfies the Lyapunov function and the combination of output errors, which respectively represented relative estimated differences of the drive-response systems. The iterative learning control rule serves the function of a filter adding previous control error after the end of each iteration. The numerical example of a synchronous system is given a Lorenz system for driving and another with the iterative learning control law for response under different initial condition. The results verify and demonstrate the proposed mathematical theory. The simulation exhibits consistency in the behavior of each parameter to match mathematical theory.

This paper investigates the problem of cooperative standoff tracking using multiple fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with control input constraints. In order to achieve accurate target tracking in the presence of unknown background wind and target motion, a coordinated standoff target tracking algorithm is proposed. The objective of the research is to steer multiple UAVs to fly a circular orbit around a moving target with prescribed intervehicle angular spacing. To achieve this goal, two control laws are proposed, including relative range regulation and space phase separation. On one hand, a heading rate control law based on Lyapunov guidance vector field is proposed. The convergence analysis show that the UAVs can asymptotically converge to a desired circular orbit around the target, regardless of their initial position and heading. Through rigorous theoretical proof, it is concluded that the command signal of the proposed heading rate controller will not violate the boundary constraint on heading rate. On the other hand, a temporal phase is introduced to represent the phase separation and avoid discontinuity of the wrapped space phase angle. On this basis, a speed controller is developed to achieve equal phase separation. The proposed airspeed controller met the requirement of airspeed constraint. In addition, to improve the robustness of the aircraft during target tracking, an estimator is developed to estimate the composition velocity of the unknown wind and target motion. The proposed estimator uses the offset vector between the UAV’s actual flight path and the desired orbit which is defined by Lyapunov guidance vector field to estimate the composition velocity. The stability of the estimator is proved. Simulations are conducted under different scenarios to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed cooperative standoff target tracking algorithm. The simulation results of indicate that, the temporal-phase-based speed controller can achieve fast convergence speed and small phase separation error. Additionally, the composition velocity estimator exhibits fast response speed and high estimation accuracy.

In this paper, we discussed the motion of neutral and charged particles in Schwarzschild black hole immersed in an electromagnetic universe (SEBH). The SEBH represents a mass M coupled to an external electromagnetic field that was derived from the metric of colliding electromagnetic waves with double polarization. Our study examine how the external electromagnetic field affects the trajectory of neutral and charged particles. First, the trajectories of both photon and test particle are studied. Then, the exact solutions for the trajectories are obtained in terms of the Jacobi-elliptic integrals for all possible energy and angular momentum of test particle and photon. We have also discussed the motion of charged particle and obtained the radius of the innermost circular orbit (ISCO). It is especially interesting when the charge sign is positive since this creates a conflict between gravitational (attraction force) and electric (repulsion force). Furthermore, we discuss the Lyapunov exponent and the effective force influencing particles in SEBH spacetime.

In this paper, by using the variational method, a sufficient condition for the unique existence of the stationary solution of the reaction-diffusion ecosystem is obtained, which directly leads to the global asymptotic stability of the unique equilibrium point. Moreover, delayed feedback ecosystem with reaction-diffusion item is considered, and utilizing impulse control results in the globally exponential stability criterion of the delayed ecosystem. It is worth mentioning that the Neumann zero-boundary value that the infected and the susceptible people or animals should be controlled in the epidemic prevention area and not allowed to cross the border, which is a good simulation of the actual situation of epidemic prevention. And numerical examples illuminate the effectiveness of impulse control, which has a certain enlightening effect on the actual epidemic prevention work . That is, in the face of the epidemic situation, taking a certain frequency of positive and effective epidemic prevention measures is conducive to the stability and control of the epidemic situation. Particularly, the newly-obtained theorems quantifies this feasible step. Besides, utilizing Laplacian semigroup derives the $p$th moment stability criterion for the impulsive ecosystem.

New possibilities of Gramian computation by using canonical transformations into diagonal, controllable and observable canonical forms are shown. With the help of such a technique the Gramian matrices can be represented in the form of products of Hadamard matrices of multipliers and matrices of the transformed right-hand side of Lyapunov equations. It is shown that the multiplier matrices are invariant under various canonical transformations of linear continuous systems. The modal Lyapunov equations for continuous SISO LTI systems in diagonal form are obtained and their new solutions based on Hadamard decomposition are proposed. New algorithms for element-by-element computation of Gramian matrices for stable continuous MIMO LTI systems are developed. For continuous SISO LTI systems given by equations of state in controllable and observable canonical forms, new algorithms for the computation of controllability Gramians and their traces in the form of Hadamard products in the form of Xiao matrices are developed. The application of transformations to the canonical forms of controllability and observability allowed to simplify the formulas of spectral decompositions in the form of Xiao matrices. In the paper new spectral decompositions in the form of Hadamard’s products for solutions of Sylvester algebraic and differential equations of MIMO LTI systems, including spectral decompositions of finite and infinite cross-Gramians of continuous MIMO LTI systems. Recommendations on the use of the obtained results are given.

This paper discusses a passive control issue for Nonlinear Time-Varying (NTV) systems subject to stability and attenuation performance. Based on the modeling approaches of Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model and the Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) model, a Parameter-Dependent Polynomial Fuzzy (PDPF) model is constructed to represent the NTV systems. According to Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC) concept, a parameter-dependent polynomial fuzzy controller is built to achieve robust stability and passivity of PDPF model. Furthermore, the passive theory is applied to achieve the performance constraining the disturbance effect on the PDPF systems. To develop the stability criteria, by introducing a parameter-dependent polynomial Lyapunov function, one can derive some stability conditions which belong to the term of Sum-Of-Squares (SOS) form. Based on the Lyapunov function, two stability criteria are proposed to design the corresponding PDPF controller such that the NTV system is robustly stable and passive. Finally, a numerical example is applied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed stability criterion.

The application of transformations of the state equations of continuous linear and bilinear systems to the canonical form of controllability allows one to simplify the computation of Gramians of these systems. In the paper we developed the method and obtain algorithms for computation of the controllability and observability Gramians of continuous linear and bilinear stationary systems with many inputs and one output, based on the method of spectral expansion of the Gramians and the iterative method for computing the bilinear systems Gramians. An important feature of the concept is the idea of separability of the Gramians expansion: sep333arate computation of the scalar and matrix parts of the spectral Gramian expansion reduces the sub-Gramian matrices computation to calculation of numerical sequences of their elements. For the continuous linear systems with one output the method and the algorithm of the spectral decomposition of the controllability Gramian are developed in the form of Xiao matrices. Analytical expressions for the diagonal elements of the Gramian matrices are obtained, making use of which the rest elements can be calculated. For continuous linear systems with many outputs the spectral decompositions of the Gramians in the form of generalized Xiao matrices are obtained, which allows to significantly reduce the number of calculations. The obtained results are generalized for continuous bilinear systems with one output. Iterative spectral algorithms for computation of elements of Gramians of these systems are proposed. Examples are given that illustrate theoretical results.

The Finite size Lyapunov exponent (FSLE) has been used extensively since the late 1990’s to diagnose turbulent regimes from Lagrangian experiments and to detect Lagrangian coherent structures in geophysical flows and two-dimensional turbulence. Historically, the FSLE was defined in terms of its computational method rather than via a mathematical formulation, and the behavior of the FSLE in the turbulent inertial ranges is based primarily on scaling arguments. Here we propose an exact definition of the FSLE based on conditional averaging of the finite amplitude growth rate (FAGR) of the particle pair separation. With this new definition, we show that the FSLE is a close proxy for the inverse structural time, a concept introduced a decade before the FSLE. The (in)dependence of the FSLE on initial conditions is also discussed, as well as the links between the FAGR and other relevant Lagrangian metrics, such as the finite time Lyapunov exponent and the second order velocity structure function.

An overview of the link between nonequilibrium thermodynamics and complexity theory is offered. It is shown how the rate of entropy production can be quantified through the spectrum of the Lyapunov exponents. It was shown how the entropy production per unit of time meets the necessary and sufficient conditions to be a Lyapunov function and constitutes per se an extremal principle. The entropy production fractal dimension conjecture was established. It is shown how the rate of entropy production as a non-extremal criterion represents an alternative way of sensitivity analysis of differential equations. Finally, an extension to biophysical-chemical systems, on the one hand, the use of the dissipation function is shown, as a thermodynamic potential out of equilibrium, in the characterization of biological phase transitions. On the other hand, it was evidenced how the rate of entropy production represents a physical quantity to evaluate the complexity and robustness of cancer.

This paper presents a new method for the design of separable denominators 2-D IIR filters with nearly linear phase in the passband. The design method is based on a balanced-realization model reduction technique. The nearly linear-phase 2-D IIR filter is designed using 2-D model reduction from a linear-phase 2-D FIR filter, which serves as the initial filter. The structured controllability and observability Gramians $P^s$ and $Q^s$ serve as the foundation for this technique. These Gramians are block diagonal positive-definite matrices that satisfy 2-D Lyapunov equations. An efficient method is used to compute these Gramians by minimizing the traces of $P^s$ and $Q^s$ under linear matrix inequalities (LMI) constraints. The use of these Gramians ensures that the resulting 2-D IIR filter preserves stability and can be implemented using a separable denominator 2-D filter with fewer coefficients than the original 2-D FIR filter. Numerical examples show that the proposed method compares favorably with existing techniques.

In this paper, the existence of two nontrivial stationary solutions for the nonlinear Gilpin Ayala two species competition model is given by using the mountain pass lemma, and the local stability criterion of the trivial solution is given by using Lyapunov function method. Based on the local stability criterion, we give some suggestions on how to avoid the population extinction. This is, when the population is on the verge of extinction, we should try our best to avoid the diffusion behavior and reduce the diffusion coefficient, otherwise the species are easy to go extinct. Numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The shape of the knee is a chain-like structure of an ellipsoid. This suggests that, in the latest study, in addition to rolling, there is slippage in the motion of the knee. This paper selects a mechanical braking model for cattle based on two mechanical structures in different directions at the joints. The experimental results show that the modified dynamical system has strong chaotic properties. This can be one of the basis for judging various health states.

The synchronous generator, as the main component of power systems, plays a key role in these system’s stability. Therefore, utilizing the most effective control strategy for modeling and control the synchronous generator results in the best outcomes in power systems’ performances. The advantage of using a powerful controller is to have the synchronous generator modeled and controlled as well as its main task i.e. stabilizing power systems. Since the synchronous generator is known as a complicated nonlinear system, modeling and control of it is a difficult task. This paper presents a sum of squares (SOS) approach to modeling and control the synchronous generator using polynomial fuzzy systems. This method as an efficacious control strategy has numerous superiorities to the well-known T–S fuzzy controller, due to the control framework is a polynomial fuzzy model, which is more general and effectual than the well-known T–S fuzzy model. In this case, a polynomial Lyapunov function is used for analyzing the stability of the polynomial fuzzy system. Then, the number of rules in a polynomial fuzzy model is less than in a T-S fuzzy model. Besides, derived stability conditions are represented in terms of the SOS approach, which can be numerically solved via the recently developed SOSTOOLS. This approach avoids the difficulty of solving LMI (Linear Matrix Inequality). The Effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by using the third-part Matlab toolbox, SOSTOOLS.

This paper presents sufficient conditions for almost global stability of nonlinear switched systems consisting of both stable and unstable subsystems. Techniques from the stability analysis of switched systems have been combined with the multiple Lyapunov density approach - recently proposed by the authors for the almost global stability of nonlinear switched systems composed of stable subsystems. By using slow switching for stable subsystems and fast switching for unstable subsystems lower and upper bounds for mode-dependent average dwell times are obtained. In addition to that, by allowing each subsystem to perform slow switching and using some restrictions on total operation time of unstable subsystems and stable subsystems, we have obtained a lower bound for an average dwell time.

We use a system biology approach to translate the interaction of Bacillus Calmette-Gurin (BCG) + interleukin 2 (IL-2) for the treatment of bladder cancer into a mathematical model. The model is presented as a system of differential equations with the following variables: number of tumor cells, bacterial cells, immune cells, and cytokines involved in the tumor-immune response. This work investigates the delay effect induced by the proliferation of tumor antigen-specific effector cells after the immune system destroys BCG-infected urothelium cells following BCG and IL-2 immunotherapy in the treatment of bladder cancer. For the proposed model, three equilibrium states are found analytically. The stability of all equilibria is analyzed using the method of Lyapunov functionals construction and the method of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).

In this paper, we constructed and analyzed a modified SIR-type model for the epidemic problem which considering waning-immunity class in the population, with the nonlinear incidence and recovery rates. Depending on the basic reproduction ratio, we investigated conditions for both non-endemic and co-existing cases. The RouthHurwitz criteria is used to verify the local stability of equilibria, whereas for the global stability, the suitable Lyapunov function is selected to analyze the behavioral stability for each equilibria. Moreover, we studied the optimal control problem for this case. Numerically, we give some simulations to support our analitycal findings.

It is demonstrated that these values are attained only at two-point distributions. Also, in terms of the central Lyapunov ratio $L_1(X-\E X)$, an analog of the Berry--Esseen inequality is proved for Poisson random sums of independent identically distributed random variables with the constant $$ 0.3031\cdot H\left(\frac{\E X}{\sqrt{\E X^2}}\right) \left(1-\frac{(\E X)^2}{\E X^2}\right)^{3/2} \le 0.3031\cdot \frac{\sqrt{17 + 7\sqrt7}}{4}<0.4517.$$ where $\Law(X)$ is the common distribution of the summands.

Motivated for improving the efficiency and reliability of wind turbine energy conversion, this paper presents an advanced control design that enhances the power regulation efficiency and re-liability. The constrained behaviour of the wind turbine is taken into account, by using the barrier Lyapunov function in the analysis of the Lyapunov direct method. This, consequently, guarantees that the generated power remains within the desired bounds to satisfy the grid power demand. Moreover, a Nussbaum-type function is utilized in the control scheme, to cope with the unpre-dictable wind speed. This eliminates the need for accurate wind speed measurement or estimation. Furthermore, via properly designed adaptive laws, a robust actuator fault-tolerant capability is integrated into the scheme, handling the model uncertainty. Numerical simulations are performed on a high-fidelity wind turbine benchmark model, under different fault scenarios, to verify the effectiveness of the developed design. Also, a Monte-Carlo analysis is exploited for the evaluation of the reliability and robustness characteristics against the model-reality mismatch, measurement errors and disturbance effects.

In this paper, the authors employ Mountain Pass Lemma, the method of weak solution regularization and Lyapunov function method to derive the unique existence of globally exponential stable positive stationary solution of a single-species model with diffusion and delayed feedback. The obtained stability criterion illuminates that under some suitable conditions, a certain internal competition is conducive to the overall stability of the population, and a certain amount of family planning is conducive to the overall stability of the population. A numerical example and three tables show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper presents a novel adaptive fault-tolerant neural-based control design for wind turbines with unknown dynamic and unknown wind speed. By utilizing the barrier Lyapunov function in the analysis of the Lyapunov direct method, the constrained behavior of the system is provided in which the rotor speed, its variation and generated power remain in the desired bounds. In addition, input saturation is also considered in terms of smooth pitch actuator bounding. Furthermore, by utilizing a Nussbaum-type function in designing the control algorithm, the unpredictable wind speed variation is captured without requiring accurate wind speed measurement, observation or estimation. Moreover, with the proposed adaptive analytic algorithms, together with the use of radial basis function neural networks, a robust adaptive and fault-tolerant control scheme is developed without the need for precise information about the wind turbine model nor the pitch actuator faults. Additionally, the computational cost of the resultant control law is reduced by utilizing a dynamic surface control technique. The effectiveness of the developed design is verified using theoretical analysis tools and illustrated by numerical simulations on a high-fidelity wind turbine benchmark model with different fault scenarios. Comparison of the achieved results to the ones that can be obtained via an available industrial controller shows the advantages of the proposed scheme.

The first part of the paper was aimed at analyzing the given nonlinear problem by different methods of computation of the Lyapunov exponents (Wolf method [1], Rosenstein method [2], Kantz method [3], method based on the modification of a neural network [4, 5], and the synchronization method [6, 7]) for the classical problems governed by difference and differential equations (Hénon map [8], hyper-chaotic Hénon map [9], logistic map [10], Rössler attractor [11], Lorenz attractor [12]) and with the use of both Fourier spectra and Gauss wavelets [13]. It was shown that a modification of the neural network method [4, 5] makes it possible to compute a spectrum of Lyapunov exponents, and then to detect a transition of the system regular dynamics into chaos, hyper-chaos, hyper hyper-chaos and deep chaos [14-16]. Different algorithms for computation of Lyapunov exponents were validated by comparison with the known dynamical systems spectra of the Lyapunov exponents. The carried out analysis helps comparatively estimate the employed methods in order to choose the most suitable/optimal one to study different kinds of dynamical systems and different classes of problems in both this and the next paper parts.

Consciousness is a special type of interaction between subjects exchanging by lingua quanta (phonemes). A set of lingua quanta composes a thesaurus placed on the edge of chaos. Its library is a memory, modification of which is due to tuning of memristive neural elements scattered in the brain volume. The memristive neural model takes into consideration two types of neurons - excitatory and inhibitory and the current leakage, all at the body temperature, T = 309 K. At such temperatures only heavy ions like hydrogen ions - protons can pass robustly through the water medium of the brain. The robust ion transport is proton water wires supported by the Grotthuss mechanism. Final aims of the ions are the gap junctions (electric synapses) linking nearest neurons. Following these observations, a model of excitable nervous tissue is constructed. Namely, a difference mapping on the basis of sigmoid curves can reproduce chaotic modes of neural activity proved by positive values of the Lyapunov exponent. The edge of chaos is placed near the bifurcation boundary dividing the chaos and the periodic convulsive activity typical at the epileptic discharges. In this region the self-sustained spiral waves occur. An intermittent activity of the competing excitatory and inhibitory neurons is observed on the edge of chaos. The intermittent electrical activity of neural tissues is demonstrated by records both from different literature issues and records made by the author together with DR. A. Dudkin on slices of CA1 field of the hippocampus.

In this research article we solve the problem of synchronization and anti-synchronization of chaotic systems described by discrete and time-delayed variable fractional order differential equations. To guarantee the synchronization and anti-synchronization of these systems, we use the well-known PID control theory and the Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theory for discrete systems of variable fractional order.We illustrate the results obtained through simulation with examples, in which it can be seen that our results are satisfactory, thus achieving synchronization and anti-synchronization of chaotic systems of variable fractional order with discrete time delay.
