The development of offshore wind farms requires robust bonding solutions that can withstand harsh marine conditions for the easy integration of secondary structures. This paper investigates the durability performance of two adhesives: Sikadur 30 adhesive and Loctite UK 1351 B25 for use in offshore wind environments. Tensile tests on adhesive samples and accelerated aging tests were carried out under a variety of temperature and environmental conditions, including both dry and wet conditions. The long-term effects of aging on adhesive integrity are investigated by simulating the operational life of offshore installations. The evolution of mechanical properties, studied under accelerated aging conditions, provides an important indication of the longevity of structures under normal conditions. The results show significant differences in performance be-tween the two adhesives, highlighting their suitability for specific operating parameters. It should also be noted that for both adhesives, their exposure to different environments (seawater, distilled water, humid climate) over a prolonged period has shown that i) Loctite adhesive has a slightly faster initial uptake than Sikadur adhesive, but the later reaches an asymptotic plateau with a lower maximum absorption rate than Loctite adhesive; and ii) a progressive deterioration in the tensile properties following an exponential function. Therefore, aging behavior results showed a clear correlation with Arrhenius' law, providing a predictive tool for the aging process. Thus, the aging process of the two adhesives follows Arrhenius kinetics.

To develop a lower-cost, excellent performance, and environmentally friendly phe-nol-formaldehyde (PF) resin, soybean meal was used to modify PF resin, and soybean meal-phenol-formaldehyde (SMPF) resins were prepared. Their physicochemical properties and curing performance were investigated, showing that SMPF resins have higher curing tempera-tures than PF resin. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results indicated that the cross-linking reaction occurred between the amino groups of soybean protein and the hy-droxymethyl phenol. Moreover, with the addition of soybean meal, the viscosity of SMPF in-creased while the gel time decreased. It is worth mentioning that SMPF-2 resin has favorable viscosity, short gel time, low curing temperature (135.78 °C), and high water resistance and bonding strength (1.01 MPa). Finally, all the plywoods bonded with SMPF resins have good water resistance and bonding strength, which could meet the Standard (GB/T 17657-2013, type I) for plywood. The optimized SMPF resins showed the potential application to replace part of PF resin in the wood industry.

Maxillofacial defects, arising from trauma, oncological disease or congenital differences, detrimentally affect everyday life. Prosthetic repair offers the aesthetic and functional reconstruction with the help of materials mimicking natural tissues, among which polymers take unprecedented role. The three-dimensional (3D) printing techniques based on the computer-aided design, where polymers are essential, provide a rapid and cost-effective workflow protocol to perfectly restore patient-specific anatomy for prosthetics. This review discusses the main 3D printing approaches to maxillofacial prostheses fabrication: extrusion and lithography, which are radically preferable to the traditional methods. The main assessment criteria, affording the polymer implementation in 3D printing of prostheses, as well as the characteristics of the key advanced polymers, are considered. The success of the prosthesis is shown to be largely dependent on the retention system, predominantly using polymers in the form of adhesives and osseointegrated implants as a support for the prosthesis. The approaches and technological prospects are also discussed in the context of specific aesthetic restoration on the example of the nasal, auricle and ocular prostheses. 3D printing techniques determine the development of personalized approaches to improve aesthetic and functional effect of prosthetics in patients with maxillofacial defects.

Conclusion: When applied to the air-abraded Filtek™ Bulk Fill Flowable Restorative composite surface, 10-MDP-containing adhesives perform better than 10-MDP-free adhesives. The binding strength was unaffected by the 10-MDP-containing adhesives' chemical makeup. The bond strength endurance of adhesives containing 10-MDP decreases with age. Optical fiber measurement systems have recently gained popularity following a multitude of intensive investigations. A new technique has been developed for these measurement systems that uses Rayleigh backscatter to determine the distributed strain measurement over the total length of a fiber. These measurement systems have great potential in civil engineering and structural health monitoring. This paper addresses some preliminary comparisons between three different fiber coatings and six different adhesives on steel structures. The results are based on a bending test with specimens made of precision flat steel; optical fiber strain measurements were compared with photogrammetric strain measurements. Analysis of the test data showed a strong correlation between the optical measurement system’s results and the theoretical results up to the yielding point of the steel. Furthermore, the results indicate that fibers with the Ormocer® and polyimide coatings have almost no loss in the strain measurements. The main results of this investigation are a guideline describing how to attach optical fibers to steel surfaces for distributed fiber optical strain measurements and recommendations for coatings to obtain realistic strain values. Additionally, the advantages of distributed strain measurements were revealed, which illustrates the potential of Rayleigh backscattering applications.
