In this paper, the problem of observer-based adaptive sliding mode control is discussed for nonlinear systems with sensor and actuator faults. The time-varying actuator degradation factor and external disturbance are considered in the system simultaneously. In this study, the original system is described as a new normal system by combining the state vector, sensor faults and external disturbance into a new state vector. For the augmented system, a new sliding mode observer is designed, where a discontinuous term is introduced such that the effects of sensor and actuator faults and external disturbance will be eliminated. In addition, based on a tricky design of the observer, the time-varying actuator degradation factor term is developed in the error system. On the basis of the state estimation, an integral-type adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller is constructed to ensure the stability of the closed-loop system. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control methods can be illustrated with a numerical example.

The morphological transformation of an arched ribbon driven by torsion is a scientific problem that is connected with daily life and requires thorough analysis. An arched ribbon can achieve an instantaneous high speed through energy transformation and then return to the original shape of the structure. In this paper, based on the characteristics of the ribbon structure, the dynamic mathematical model of the arched ribbon driven by torsion is established from the Kirchhoff rod equation. The variations of the Euler angle of each point on the center line of the ribbon with the arc coordinate s and the rotation angle of the supports $\phi$ was examined. The relationship between the internal force distribution of each point in the direction of $\hat{d}_{a}$ and the material, cross-sectional properties, and rotation angle of the supports was obtained. We used ABAQUS, a nonlinear finite element analysis tool, to simulate the morphological transformations of the ribbons, verified our theory with simulation results, and reproduced the experimental results of Sano. Furthermore, we redefined the concept of the ``critical flipping point'' of Sano. In this paper, the dimensional analysis method was used to fit the simulation data. The following relationship between the critical width $ w ^{*} $, thickness h, and the radius R of the ribbon with different cross sections was obtained: $w^{*}=A\cdot R\left(h/R\right)^{0.6}$, where A is 3.19 for rectangular cross sections and 3.06 for elliptical cross sections. By analyzing the simulation data, we determined the variation behavior of the out-of-plane deflection of the center point of the ribbon with the radius R, width w, and thickness h. Our research has guiding significance for understanding and designing arched ribbons driven by torsion, and the results can be applied to problems of different scales.

Why are pieces of spaghetti generally broken into three to ten segments instead of two as one thinks? How can one obtain the desired number of fracture segments? For these problems, in this paper a strand of spaghetti is considered an elastic rod, and the finite-element software ABAQUS is used to simulate the detailed fracture dynamics of the elastic rod. By changing the size (length and diameter) of the rod, the relevant data on the fracture limit curvature and the number of fractured segments of the elastic rod are obtained. The ABAQUS simulation results confirm the scientific judgment of B. Audoly and S. Neukirch (Fragmentation of rods by cascading cracks: Why spaghetti does not break in half. Phys Rev Lett 95: 095505). Using dimensional analysis to fit the finite-element data, two relations of the elastic rod fracture dynamics are obtained: (1) the relationship between the fracture limit curvature and the diameter, and (2) the relationship between the number of fracture segments and the diameter-length ratio. Results reveal that when the length is constant, the larger the diameter (the smaller the diameter-length ratio D/L), the smaller the limit curvature; and the larger the diameter-length ratio D/L, the fewer the number of fractured segments. The relevant formulations can be used to obtain the desired number of broken segments of spaghetti by changing the diameter-to-length ratio.

Why do stretched rubber bands not hit the hand after ejection? What is the mechanism behind the rubber band ejection dynamics? These questions represent a fascinating scientific problem. Because the size of a rubber band in the circumferential direction is much larger than that in the other two directions of its cross-section, we regard the rubber band as a slender beam and establish a mathematical model of the dynamics of the rubber band stretching and ejection. Furthermore, we obtain the dependence of the dynamic curvature of the rubber band on the arc length and time. We used the finite element software ABAQUS to simulate the dynamic process of a rubber band stretching and ejection. The simulation results and dimensional analysis were performed to examine the effect of the bending elastic rebound velocity. The mathematical model and simulation results revealed that the relationship between the curvature and time at the end of the rubber band ($s =0$) was as follows: $\kappa\sim t^{-{1}/{2}}$. This research has guiding significance for the design of rubber bands as elastic energy storage devices.

Providing cellular support and modifying the glial scar around the lesion are two key strategies for promoting axonal regeneration after spinal cord injury. We showed before that over-expressing polysialic acid (PSA) on Schwann cells (SCs) by lentiviral vector (LV)-mediated expression of polysialyltransferase (PST) facilitated their integration and migration in the injured spinal cord. We also showed that PSA over-expression in the injured spinal cord modified the glial scar and promoted the growth of ascending sensory axons. In this study, we combined the PST/SC transplantation with LV/PST injection in spinal cords after dorsal column transection and found the combined treatments led to faster and more profound locomotor functional recovery compared with animals receiving combined GFP/SC transplantation with LV/GFP injection. Histological examination showed significantly more injured corticospinal axons growing close to the lesion/transplant borders and into the caudal spinal cord in the PST group than in the GFP group. We also found over-expressing PSA around the lesion site did not cause allodynia and hyperalgesia in our injury model. These results demonstrate the promising therapeutic benefit of over-expressing PSA in transplanted SCs and spinal cord in promoting axonal growth and restoring motor function.

The utilization of tempered blast furnace (BF) slag through the direct fiber forming process to create high-value thermal insulation materials offers a dual benefit: it efficiently harnesses the latent heat within unused slag and substantially enhances the value of blast-furnace slag utilization. However, gauging the melting properties of iron slag under high temperatures is a challenge. In this study, we explore the melting behavior of SiO2 within a high-temperature molten pool. We employ dynamic visual data (video stream) captured via a non-contact charge coupled device (CCD) video recording system to extract SiO2 contours through image processing. The change in image centroid characteristics is used to establish a convolution function relationship, and MATLAB's traversal search algorithm determines SiO2's centroid position. Given that SiO2 is proportionate to crucible pixels, the area of SiO2 is calculated through pixel statistics within these contours. Subsequently, we propose a new indirect method to process image information, yielding SiO2 volume and mass at different time points. An exponential fitting yields the melting rate function of SiO2. Finally, we compare this indirect method with shape from shading (SFS), quantitative characterization, and dimensional analysis techniques. We also discuss the strengths and limitations of each method. Our findings reveal that the indirect solution method presented here boasts straightforward calculation steps and imposes minimal image format requirements. This research provides theoretical and technical support for blast-furnace slag's direct fiber forming process.

Zero-dimensional (0D) tin halide perovskites feature extraordinary properties, such as broadband emission, high photoluminescence quantum yield, and self-absorption-free characteristics. The innovation of synthesis approaches for high-quality 0D tin halide perovskites has facilitated the flourishing development of perovskite-based optoelectronic devices in recent years. However, discovering an effective strategy to further enhance their emission efficiency remains a considerable challenge. Herein, we report a unique strategy employing rapid heat treatment to attain efficient self-trapped exciton (STE) emission in Cs4SnBr6 zero-dimensional perovskite. Compared to the pristine Cs4SnBr6, rapid thermal treatment (RTT) at 200°C for a duration of 120 seconds results in an augmented STE emission with photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield rising from an initial 50.1% to a substantial 64.7%. Temperature-dependent PL spectra analysis, Raman spectra, and PL decay traces reveal that the PL improvement is attributed to the appropriate electron-phonon coupling as well as the increased binding energies of STEs induced by the RTT. Our findings open up a new avenue for efficient luminescent 0D tin-halide perovskites toward the development of efficient optoelectronic devices based on 0D perovskites.

Incorporating linear-scanning MEMS micromirrors into Fourier transform spectral acquisition systems can greatly reduce the size of the spectrometer equipment, making portable Fourier transform spectrometers (FTS) possible. How to minimize the tilting of the MEMS mirror plate during its large linear scan is a major problem in this application. In this work, an FTS system has been constructed based on a biaxial MEMS micromirror with a large piston displacement of 180 μm, and a biaxial H∞ robust controller is designed. Compared with open-loop control and PID closed-loop control, H∞ robust control has good stability and robustness. The experimental results show that the stable scanning displacement reaches 110.9 μm under the H∞ robust control, and the tilting angle of the MEMS mirror plate in that full scanning range falls within ±0.0014°. Without control, the FTS system cannot generate meaningful spectra. In contrast, the FTS yields a clean spectrum with an FWHM spectral linewidth of 96 cm-1 under the H∞ robust control. Moreover, the FTS system can maintain good stability and robustness under various driving conditions.

The king ratsnake (Elaphe carinata) of the genus Elaphe is a common large non-venomous snake that is widely distributed in Southeast and East Asia, and is an economically important farmed snake species. As a non-venomous snake, the king snake that is predatory on venomous snakes such as cobras and pit vipers. The immune mechanisms of which has been unclear. Despite their economic and research importance, genomic resources which will benefit studies in toxicology, phylogeography and immunogenetics are lacking. In this study, we use single-tube long fragment read (stLFR) sequencing to display the first complete genome of a King ratsnake from Huangshan City, Anhui province in China. The genome size is 1.56GB with a scaffold N50 of 6.53M, the total length of the genome is approximately 621Mb, and the repeat content is 38.90%. Additionally, we predicted 22,339 protein-coding genes, of which 22,065 had functional annotations. Our genome is a potentially useful addition to those currently available for snakes.
