More than 600 Healthcare workers died due to COVID-19 infection until January 2022 in Ecuador. Even though the COVID-19 vaccines are safe, local, and systemic reactions were reported among physicians. This study aims to analyze the Adverse events (AEs) of COVID-19 vaccines with an emphasis on homologous and heterologous booster doses. An electronic survey was performed in Quito- Ecuador, directed to physicians who were vaccinated with the three doses of COVID-19 vaccines. 210 participants were analyzed after administering any doses of the vaccines. At least one AE was identified in 60.0% (126/210) of the sample after the first dose, 52.40% (110/210) after the second dose, and 75.2% (158/210) after the booster dose. The most frequent AEs were localized pain, myalgia, headache, and fever. At least one drug was used in 44.3% of the population after the first dose, 37.1% after the second dose, and 63.8% in the booster dose. Heterol-ogous booster produces more AEs compared with homologous booster (80.1% vs. 53.8%), and 77.3% of participants reported that interfered with daily activities. Similar studies agree that reactogenicity occurs mainly with heterologous vaccination compared to ho-mologous vaccination. This situation affected physicians’ performance in daily activities and led them to use medication for the symptoms

The aim of this study was to describe the trend of traffic accident mortality and social inequalities in Ecuador for the period 2011-2020, distributed by year, gender, age group, geographic location, and type of accident, alongside social disparities. An ecological approach was used to evaluate traffic accident mortality data. The average traffic accident mortality rate in the country during this period was 19.1 per 100,000 inhabitants, with rates being significantly higher in males (31.3) than in females (7.2). The highest mortality rate was recorded in 2011, predominantly impacting the 60 and older age group, the Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas province, and the Amazon region. The study also noted a declining trend in these rates over the years, with an Annual Percentage Variation of -1.2%. A notable finding was the decrease in traffic accident mortality inequality based on per capita income in 2019, compared to 2011, which rose by 247.7%, whereas the inequality based on illiteracy rates decreased by 18.9% from 2014 to 2019. These findings highlight the significant decrease in traffic accident mortality rates across Ecuador, though marked disparities remain evident across different genders, age groups, and provinces.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a highly prevalent endocrine-metabolic disorder in women of reproductive age. Diagnosis of this syndrome relies on criteria established by the Rotterdam Consensus, with PCOS phenotypes being crucial for distinguishing potential complications, treatment approaches, and timing. The aim of this study is to characterize the biodemographic, clinical, metabolic, and reproductive variables and their association with PCOS phenotypes in a population from the Ecuadorian Andes. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a non-random consecutive sample of 92 women attending the gynecology and endocrinology outpatient clinic at the Technical University of Loja Hospital (UTPL)-Santa Inés, Loja, Ecuador, between January 2022 and July 2023.Results: The average age was 22±3.4 years, predominantly mestizo, urban, single, with higher education and a medium-high socioeconomic status. Oligo-amenorrhea and acne appear strongly associated with phenotypes A and B, while hirsutism and polycystic ovaries on ultrasound show a weaker association with these phenotypes. Alopecia is more prevalent in phenotypes C and D. Triglyceride levels and BMI have a strong association with phenotypes A and B. Total testosterone levels, 17 OH progesterone, LH, and free androgen index show a moderate association with phenotypes A and B, while other reproductive variables exhibit weak associations. Conclusions: Classical phenotypes A and B of PCOS are most common in Andean Ecuadorian women, carrying higher risks of insulin resistance, anovulation, metabolic disorders, and elevated triglycerides compared to phenotypes C and D. Ethnic diversity and sociocultural habits influence the prevalence and clinical manifestations of phenotypes.
