Existing methods for building extraction from remotely sensed images strongly rely on aerial or satellite-based images with very high resolution, which are usually limited by spatiotemporally accessibility and cost. In contrast, relatively low-resolution images have better spatial and temporal availability but cannot directly contribute to fine- and/or high-resolution building extraction. In this paper, based on image super-resolution and segmentation techniques, we propose a two-stage framework (SRBuildingSeg) for achieving super-resolution (SR) building extraction using relatively low-resolution remotely sensed images. SRBuildingSeg can fully utilize inherent information from the given low-resolution images to achieve high-resolution building extraction. In contrast to the existing building extraction methods, we first utilize an internal pairs generation module (IPG) to obtain SR training datasets from the given low-resolution images and an edge-aware super-resolution module (EASR) to improve the perceptional features, following the dual-encoder building segmentation module (DES). Both qualitative and quantitative experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach is capable of achieving high-resolution (e.g. 0.5 m) building extraction results at 2×, 4× and 8× SR. Our approach outperforms 8 other methods with respect to the extraction result of mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) values by a ratio of 9.38%, 8.20% and 7.89% with SR ratio factors of 2, 4, and 8, respectively. The results indicate that the edges and borders reconstructed in super-resolved images serve a pivotal role in subsequent building extraction and reveal the potential of the proposed approach to achieve super-resolution building extraction. In recent decades, porous scaffolds for bone tissue engineering (BTE) have gained significant attention. Considerable research efforts have been dedicated to investigating the impact of scaffold pore size on a diverse array of biological processes, including cell-scaffold interactions, substance transportation, and vascularization. However, the multi-scale hierarchical porosity, a key structural characteristic of natural bone, has rarely been replicated in BTE scaffolds due to the challenges of controlling the scaffold structure across multiple length scales. With the advancement of manufacturing technology, there has been increasing research on biomimetic multi-scale hierarchical materials, which are also gaining favor in the field of BTE. Therefore, there is an urgent need to review multi-scale hierarchical porous BTE scaffolds. This paper aims to review the role and fabrication methods of multi-scale porous BTE scaffolds at different length scales, the design and manufacturing of new BTE scaffolds for bone regeneration.

Given of the outstanding versatile properties, the multilayered anti-corrosion coatings have drawn great interests in academic and engineering fields. However, the application of multilayered coatings is restricted by some limitations such as low interlayer compatibilities, harsh preparation process, etc. This work introduced a composite film fabricated on 2A12 aluminum alloy surface, including an anodic oxide film, a sol-gel film as well as a layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembling film from bottom to top. The microstructure and elemental characterization indicated that the finish of the coating with the LBL film resulted in a closely connected multilayered coating with a smoother surface. The anticorrosion performance was systematically evaluated in the simulated corrosive medium and neutral salt-spray environment. The intergrated coating with the LBL film presented an excellent anticorrosion ability with the system impedance over 108 Ω•cm² and the self-corrosion current density two orders of magnitude lower than that of the other coatings. After the acceleration test in salt-spray environment, the multilayered coatings could still show a good protective performance with almost no cracks and no penetration of chloride ions. It is believed that the as-constructed multilayered coating with high corrosive properties and fine surface state will have promising applications in the field of anticorrosion engineering.
