In recent years, many algorithms based on end-to-end deep networks have been proposed to deal with the target detection problem of videos. However, the deep network models usually consume a lot of computing resources during the procedure of analysis of videos with complex dynamic backgrounds. In this paper, a new method of object detection based on information theory is presented. Firstly, each frame in a video is converted into an effective information map by using the Harris corner detection method. Secondly, the sensitive areas in the frame are extracted by using the context information and the effective information maps of the consecutive video frames. The sensitive areas in the video frame are the candidate areas where the target objects would be appeared at high probabilities. Thirdly, the information entropy features of each sensitive area are extracted to form the feature matrix, based on which, an SVM model is trained for selecting the target areas from the sensitive areas. Finally, the locations of the objects are detected based on the target areas in the video with a complex dynamic background. As a lightweight video detection framework, the method presented in this paper can save a lot of computing resources. Experimental results show that this method can achieve good results in the benchmark of CDnet 2014.

A significant body of research has examined the accuracy and diversity of several types of recommendation systems. However, little is known about the psychological mechanisms underlying the effects of the different types of recommendation systems on user satisfaction. The findings of our experiment showed that user satisfaction is influenced by shopping goal. Specifically, when a user’s shopping goal aligns with the type of recommendation system, the user satisfaction is enhanced. Our study evaluated the mediating role of feeling right and psychological reactance for a better understanding of this relationship. We further tested the moderated mediation effect of feeling right and psychological reactance moderated by the user shopping goal. For goal-directed users, accurate recommendations trigger the activation of feeling right, consequently increasing the user satisfaction. Conversely, when exploratory users face accurate recommendations, they activate psychological reactance, which leads to a reduction in user satisfaction.

This paper studies the integrated design problems of control and guidance with parameter uncertainties, target disturbances, input constraints and actuator faults. Firstly, based on the integrated design idea of the missile guidance and control, the auxiliary variable is used to establish and transform it into a cascade system with input constraints, actuator faults and disturbances of unknown upper bounds. Secondly, the adaptive anti-saturation dynamic surface fault-tolerant controller is designed by using the back-stepping method, adaptive control, auxiliary system and tracking differentiator. By introducing the tracking differentiator and tangent barrier Lyapunov function, the computational explosion problem in the traditional back-stepping method is avoided and the angle of attack can be guaranteed in prospective range, respectively. Finally, the theoretical proof of the designed control strategy is given to ensure that the states of the closed-loop system are bounded. At the same time, the digital simulation of the maneuvering target of different maneuvering forms is carried out, which further illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the designed control schemes.

The vibration propagates in a media such as a shaft in the form of elastic waves. The propagation characteristics of the waves are affected by the geometry of the media, the material properties as well as the cracks. The study to elastic waves propagating in a shaft with transverse cracks can help to detect them. The transverse crack possesses different crack modes due to different external loads. The influence of the crack mode, the location and the depth to the propagation characteristics is investigated in this paper. Firstly, the local flexibility coefficients with three different modes are deduced. And then, the transfer matrix of the elastic wave can be obtained. Finally, the influence of the crack mode, the location and the depth of the transverse crack as well as the rotating speed to the propagation characteristics is then studied, both in a numerical and an experimental way. It’s found that mode III is the most suitable mode in this paper, the location of the crack will make the stopbands fluctuating, the depth mainly affects the bandwidth of the stopbands, and the increase of the rotating speed will shift up the stopbands without changing their bandwidths.

Influenced by geological, climatic, and natural weathering factors, the Great Wall heritage is sus-ceptible to deformations, posing significant challenges to the comprehensive preservation of the Great Wall sites. To investigate techniques for monitoring deformations in extensive linear cultural heritage sites, such as the Great Wall, this study utilizes the SBAS-InSAR technique for deformation monitoring and analysis. A dataset comprising 161 Sentinel-1A images spanning from March 2017 to January 2022 was chosen for SBAS-InSAR processing, yielding a deformation velocity field. To verify result credibility, a typical mountainous segment spanning approximately 896.53 km within the Great Wall landscape corridor underwent analysis. The findings suggest that around 75.8% of the landscape corridor along the Shanxi section of the Ming Great Wall maintain relative stability, displaying deformation rates varying from -10 to 10 mm/year. The remaining 24.2% of the land-scape corridor experiences notable deformations, including a maximum subsidence rate of 33.1 mm/year and a maximum subsidence of 148.6 mm. This study illustrates the potential utility of the SBAS-InSAR technique for monitoring and evaluating surface deformations in extensive linear cultural heritage sites.

The establishment of an isolation layer in submarine mining has long presented an enduring challenge. In the context of this research, we conducted a similarity simulation test to preliminarily ascertain the interplay between the thickness and extent of the isolation layer. Subsequently, we introduce an innovative approach that integrates fractal theory and the bonded block model (BBM) to simulate undersea isolation layer mining. The validation of this method hinges on on-site borehole scanning and displacement monitoring, which serve to depict the intricate fractal evolution of fractures and predict the optimal thickness of the isolation layer. Our findings affirm the robustness and validity of this method. Evaluation of the fractal dimensions of fractures reveals that a critical threshold of 1.7 exists to prevent structural failure of the isolation layer, while a limit of 1.5 is necessary to avert significant water ingress. Remarkably, the correlation dimension of the settlement time series closely aligns with the fractal dimension of the fractures, underscoring the feasibility of ensuring the safety of isolation layer mining through real-time settlement monitoring.

North and West Africa are the most vulnerable regions to drought, due to the high variation in monthly precipitation. An accurate and efficient monitoring of drought is essential. In this study, we use TRMM data with remote sensing tools for effective monitoring of drought. The Drought Severity Index (DSI), Temperature Vegetation Drought Index (TVDI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and Normalized Vegetation Supply Water Index (NVSWI) are more useful for monitoring the drought over North and West Africa. To classify the areas affected by drought, we used the TRMM spatial maps to verify the TVDI, DSI and NVSWI indexes derived from MODIS. The DSI, TVDI, NVSWI and Monthly Precipitation Anomaly (NPA) indexes with the employ of MODIS-derived ET/PET and NDVI were chosen for monitoring the drought in the study area. The seasonal spatial correlation between the DSI, NPA, NVWSI, NDVI, TVDI and TCI indicates that NVSWI, NDVI and DSI present an excellent monitor of drought indexes. The change trend of drought from 2002 to 2018 was also characterized. The frequency of drought showed a decrease during this period.

Biodegradable and renewable plastic films have been regarded as promising alternative green materials to achieve the substitution polythene (PE)films to reduce plastic pollution. Poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) is a kind of biodegradable polyester, which is widely used in the production of biodegradable mulching films. However, the high cost of PBAT limited it applications. Thus, lignin, one of the most abundant biomass resources was incorporated into PBAT matrix in the present work. A series of Lignin/PBAT biodegradable plastics films with different Lignin/PBAT weight ratios (0.00 %-5.00 %) were successfully fabricated using twin screw and twin roll extruders. The chemical compositions, morphologies, thermal stabilities, mechanical properties, and barrier properties of samples were characterized by XRD, FTIR, TG/DSC, mechanical testing machine, and WVTR, respectively. Results show that the corporation of lignin into PBAT matrix could lead to improved thermal stabilities, mechanical properties and barrier properties of films even after Xenon lamp aging process, especially when Lignin/PBAT weight ratio is 1.00 % in the present work. This work provides a very promising approach for fabrication of biodegradable plastics films with low cost, enhanced mechanical properties and barrier properties, the as-prepared samples may have potential applications in agricultural or food packaging materials.

The rapid spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a serious threat to public health systems globally and is subsequently, a cause of anxiety and panic within human society. Understanding the mechanisms and reducing the chances of having severe symptoms from COVID-19 will play an essential role in treating the disease, and become an urgent task to calm the panic. However, the COVID-19 test developed to identify virus carriers is unable to predict symptom development in individuals upon infection. Experiences from other plagues in human history and COVID-19 statistics suggest that genetic factors may determine the compliance with the virus, i.e., severe, mild, and asymptomatic. Here, a hypothesis is put forward based on the epidemiological characteristics and traits of COVID-19, and our gene expression analysis. It proposes that COVID-19 inactivation in the blood by blocking virus entry into other internal organs for reproduction through the blood circulation after lung cell invasion prevents severe symptoms. Additionally, we investigated a genetic connection between candidate genes and severe COVID-19 symptoms through the utilization of strategies combining hypothesis and data-driven approaches. A list of genes and important SNPs that require further investigation to aid the screening of individuals who may suffer severe illness if exposed to the virus is present. Those individuals should be intensively safeguarded and prioritised for treatment. Concurrently to further research on the COVID-19 pathogenesis, our results also offer a new research strategy for pandemic prevention and health maintenance.

The microglia, displaying diverse phenotypes, play a significant regulatory role in the development, progression, and prognosis of Parkinson's disease. Research has established that glycolytic reprogramming serves as a critical regulator of inflammation initiation in pro-inflammatory macrophages. Furthermore, the modulation of glycolytic reprogramming has the potential to reverse the polarized state of these macrophages. Previous studies have shown that levetistilide A (LA), a phthalide component derived from Angelica sinensis, possesses a range of pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. In our study, we have examined the impact of LA on inflammatory cytokines and glucose metabolism in microglia induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Furthermore, we explored the effects of LA on the AMPK/mTOR pathway and assessed its neuroprotective potential both in vitro and in vivo. The findings revealed that LA notably diminished the expression of M1 pro-inflammatory factors induced by LPS in microglia, while leaving M2 anti-inflammatory factor expression unaltered. Additionally, it reduced ROS production and suppressed IκB-α phosphorylation levels as well as NF-κB p65 nuclear translocation. Notably, LA exhibited the ability to reverse microglial glucose metabolism reprogramming and modulate the phosphorylation levels of AMPK/mTOR. In vivo experiments further corroborated these findings, demonstrating that LA mitigated the death of TH-positive dopaminergic neurons and reduced microglia activation in the ventral SNpc brain region of the midbrain and the striatum. In summary, LA exhibited neuroprotective benefits by modulating the polarization state of microglia and altering glucose metabolism, highlighting its therapeutic potential.
