The value of an edge has eligibility to call quasi-co-degree but the value of a vertex has eligibility to call quasi-degree. Some results get more frameworks and perspective about these definitions. The way in that, two vertices have connection together, open the way to define neighborhood and co-neighborhood. The maximum values in neighborhood and co-neighborhood introduces quasi-degree and quasi-co-degree, respectively. New name is chosen from degree. Since amid all vertices with different degrees, one vertex is chosen. In other words, one vertex is fixed and its degree turns out quasi-degree where two degrees could be assigned to a vertex. Many various using of this new-born fuzzy model for solving real-world problems and urgent requirements involve introducing new concept for analyzing the situations which leads to solve them by proper, quick and ecient method based on statistical data. This gap between the model and its solution cause that we introduce nikfar domination in neutrosophic graphs as creative and eective tool for studying a few selective vertices of this model instead of all ones by using special edges. Being special selection of these edges aect to achieve quick and proper solution to these problems. Domination hasn't ever been introduced. So we don't have any comparison with another denitions. The most used graphs which have properties of being complete, empty, bipartite, tree and like stu and they also achieve the names for themselves, are studied as fuzzy models for getting nikfar dominating set or at least becoming so close to it. We also get the relations between this special edge which plays main role in doing dominating with other special types of edges of graph like bridges. Finally, the relation between this number with other special numbers and characteristic of graph like order are discussed.

Some ideas are introduced on both notions of SuperHyperDominating and SuperHyperResolving, simultaneously and as the same with each other. Some neutrosophic SuperHyperClasses are defined based on the notion, SuperHyperResolving. The terms of duality, totality, perfectness, connectedness, and stable, are added to basic framework and initial notions, SuperHyperDominating and SuperHyperResolving but the concentration is on the “perfectness” to figure out what’s going on when for all targeted SuperHyperVertices, there’s only one SuperHyperVertex in the intended set. There are some instances and some clarifications to make sense about what’s happened and what’s done in the starting definitions. The key point is about the minimum sets. There are some questions and some problems to be taken as some avenues to pursue this study and this research. Failed zero-forcing neutrosophic-number Zn(NTG) for a neutrosophic graphNTG : (V,E,σ,μ) is maximal neutrosophic cardinality of a set S of black vertices (whereas vertices in V (G) \ S are colored white) such that V (G) isn’t turned black afterfinitely many applications of “the color-change rule”: a white vertex is converted to a black vertex if it is the only white neighbor of a black vertex. Failed zero-forcing number and failed zero-forcing neutrosophic-number are about a set of vertices which are applied into the setting of neutrosophic graphs. The structure of set is studied and general results are obtained. Also, some classes of neutrosophic graphs namely path-neutrosophic graphs, cycle-neutrosophic graphs, complete-neutrosophic graphs, star-neutrosophic graphs, bipartite-neutrosophic graphs, and t-partite-neutrosophic graphs are investigated in the terms of maximal set which forms both of failed zero-forcing number and failed zero-forcing neutrosophic-number. Neutrosophic number is reused in this way. It’s applied to use the type of neutrosophic number in the way that, three values of a vertex are used and they’ve same share to construct this number to compare with other vertices. Summation of three values of vertex makes one number and applying it to a comparison. This approach facilitates identifying vertices which form failed zero-forcing number and failed zero-forcing neutrosophic-number. In path-neutrosophic graphs, the set of vertices such that every given two vertices in the set, have distance at least two, forms maximal set but with slightly differences, in cycle-neutrosophic graphs, the set of vertices such that every given two vertices in the set, have distance at least two, forms maximal set. Other classes have same approaches. In complete-neutrosophic graphs, a set of vertices excluding two vertices leads us to failed zero-forcing number and failed zero-forcing neutrosophic-number. In star-neutrosophic graphs, a set of vertices excluding only two vertices and containing center, makes maximal set. In complete-bipartite-neutrosophic graphs, a set of vertices excluding two vertices from same parts makes intended set but with slightly differences, in complete-t-partite-neutrosophic graphs, a set of vertices excluding two vertices from same parts makes intended set. In both settings, some classes of well-known neutrosophic graphs are studied. Some clarifications for each result and each definition are provided. Using basic set not to extend this set to set of all vertices has key role to have these notions in the form of failed zero-forcing number and failed zero-forcing neutrosophic-number. The cardinality of a set has eligibility to form failed zero-forcing number but the neutrosophic cardinality of a set has eligibility to call failed zero-forcing neutrosophic-number. Some results get more frameworks and perspective about these definitions. The way in that, two vertices don’t have unique connection together, opens the way to do some approaches. A vertex could affect on other vertex but there’s no usage of edges. These notions are applied into neutrosophic graphs as individuals but not family of them as drawbacks for these notions. Finding special neutrosophic graphs which are well-known, is an open way to pursue this study. Some problems are proposed to pursue this study. Basic familiarities with graph theory and neutrosophic graph theory are proposed for this article.

New setting is introduced to study the global powerful alliance. Global powerful alliance is about a set of vertices which are applied into the setting of neutrosophic graphs. Neighborhood has the key role to define this notion. Also, neighborhood is defined based on strong edges. Strong edge gets a framework as neighborhood and after that, too close vertices have key role to define global powerful alliance based on strong edges. The structure of set is studied and general results are obtained. Also, some classes of neutrosophic graphs excluding empty, path, star, and wheel and containing complete, cycle and r-regular-strong are investigated in the terms of set, minimal set, number, and neutrosophic number. Neutrosophic number is used in this way. It’s applied to use the type of neutrosophic number in the way that, three values of a vertex are used and they’ve same share to construct this number. It’s called “modified neutrosophic number”. Summation of three values of vertex makes one number and applying it to a set makes neutrosophic number of set. This approach facilitates identifying minimal set and optimal set which forms minimal-global-powerful-alliance number and minimal-global-powerful-alliance-neutrosophic number. Two different types of sets namely global-powerful alliance and minimal-global-powerful alliance are defined. Global-powerful alliance identifies the sets in general vision but minimal-global-powerful alliance takes focus on the sets which deleting a vertex is impossible. Minimal-global-powerful-alliance number is about minimum cardinality amid the cardinalities of all minimal-global-powerful alliances in a given neutrosophic graph. New notions are applied in the settings both individual and family. Family of neutrosophic graphs has an open avenue, in the way that, the family only contains same classes of neutrosophic graphs. The results are about minimal-global-powerful alliance, minimal-global-powerful-alliance number and its corresponded sets, minimal-global-powerful-alliance-neutrosophic number and its corresponded sets, and characterizing all minimal-global-powerful alliances, minimal-t-powerful alliance, minimal-t-powerful-alliance number and its corresponded sets, minimal-t-powerful-alliance-neutrosophic number and its corresponded sets, and characterizing all minimal-t-powerful alliances. The connections amid t-powerful-alliances are obtained. The number of connected components has some relations with this new concept and it gets some results. Some classes of neutrosophic graphs behave differently when the parity of vertices are different and in this case, cycle, and complete illustrate these behaviors. Two applications concerning complete model as individual and family, under the titles of time table and scheduling conclude the results and they give more clarifications and closing remarks. In this study, there’s an open way to extend these results into the family of these classes of neutrosophic graphs. The family of neutrosophic graphs aren’t study deeply and with more results but it seems that analogous results are determined. New notion of dimension as set, as two optimal numbers including metric number, dimension number and as optimal set are introduced in individual framework and in formation of family. Behaviors of twin and antipodal are explored in fuzzy(neutrosophic) graphs. Fuzzy(neutrosophic) graphs, under conditions, fixed-edges, fixed-vertex and strong fixed-vertex are studied. Some classes as path, cycle, complete, strong, t-partite, bipartite, star and wheel in the formation of individual case and in the case, they form a family are studied in the term of dimension. Fuzzification(neutrosofication) of twin vertices but using crisp concept of antipodal vertices are another approaches of this study. Thus defining two notions concerning vertices which one of them is fuzzy(neutrosophic) titled twin and another is crisp titled antipodal to study the behaviors of cycles which are partitioned into even and odd, are concluded. Classes of cycles according to antipodal vertices are divided into two classes as even and odd. Parity of the number of edges in cycle causes to have two subsections under the section is entitled to antipodal vertices. In this study, the term dimension is introduced on fuzzy(neutrosophic) graphs. The locations of objects by a set of some junctions which have distinct distance from any couple of objects out of the set, are determined. Thus it’s possible to have the locations of objects outside of this set by assigning partial number to any objects. The classes of these specific graphs are chosen to obtain some results based on dimension. The types of crisp notions and fuzzy(neutrosophic) notions are used to make sense about the material of this study and the outline of this study uses some new notions which are crisp and fuzzy(neutrosophic). Some questions and problems are posed concerning ways to do further studies on this topic. Basic familiarities with fuzzy(neutrosophic) graph theory and graph theory are proposed for this article.

This article presents a new method of segmenting images with gray levels. The method is based on determining several thresholds for separation of gray levels. The determination of these thresholds is done using the certainty of the neutrosophic information. The concept of this method can be stated simply: to choose the local maximums for the neutrosophic certainty.

In this paper, a geometric model is introduced for Neutrosophic data problem for the first time. This model is based on neutrosophic sets and neutrosophic relations. Neutrosophic control points are defined according to these points, resulting in neutrosophic Bézier curves.

Different types of procedures including set, optimal set, and optimal number alongside study on the family of neutrosophic hypergraphs are proposed in this way, some results are obtained. General classes of neutrosophic hypergraphs are used to obtains these numbers and the representatives of the colors, dominating sets and resolving sets. Using colors to assign to the vertices of neutrosophic hypergraphs and characterizing resolving sets and dominating sets are applied. Some questions and problems are posed concerning ways to do further studies on this topic. Using different ways of study on neutrosophic hypergraphs to get new results about numbers and sets in the way that some numbers get understandable perspective. Family of neutrosophic hypergraphs are studied to investigate about the notions, dimension and coloring alongside domination in neutrosophic hypergraphs. In this way, sets of representatives of colors, resolving sets and dominating sets have key role. Optimal sets and optimal numbers have key points to get new results but in some cases, there are usages of sets and numbers instead of optimal ones. Simultaneously, three notions are applied into neutrosophic hypergraphs to get sensible results about their structures. Basic familiarities with neutrosophic hypergraphs theory and hypergraph theory are proposed for this article.

This article presents a new method of segmenting grayscale images by minimizing Shannon's neutrosophic entropy. For the proposed segmentation method, the neutrosophic information components, i.e., the degree of truth, the degree of neutrality and the degree of falsity are defined taking into account the belonging to the segmented regions and at the same time to the separation threshold area. The principle of the method is simple and easy to understand and can lead to multiple thresholds. The efficacy of the method is illustrated using some test gray level images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has good performance for segmentation with optimal gray level thresholds.

Neutrosophic cubic set is the hybridization of the concept of neutrosophic set and interval neutrosophic set. Neutrosophic cubic set has the capacity to express the hybrid information of both the interval neutrosophic set and the single valued neutrosophic set simultaneously. As newly defined, little research on the operations and applications of neutrosophic cubic sets appear in the current literature. In the present paper we propose the score, accuracy functions for neutrosophic cubic sets and prove their basic properties. We firstly develop TODIM method to solve multi attribute group decision making in neutrosophic cubic set environment, which we call NC-TODIM. Also, we solve a MAGDM problem using the proposed NC-TODIM method to show the applicability and effectiveness of the developed method. We also conduct sensitivity analysis to show the impact of ranking order of the alternatives for different values of attenuation factor of losses for multi-attribute group decision making problem.

Neutrosophic cubic set (NCS) is one of the important family members of neutrosophic hybrid sets. Neutrosophic cubic set has more strength than other family members of neutrosophic hybrid sets to express incomplete information due to the presence of interval valued neutrosophic set (IVNS) and single valued neutrosophic set (SVNS) in its structure. Cross entropy measure is one of the best way to calculate the divergence of any variable from the priori one variable. In this paper we first define a new cross entropy measure under NCSs environment which we call NC- cross entropy measure. We investigate the basic properties of NC-cross entropy. We also propose weighted NC-cross entropy and investigate its basic properties. We develop a novel multi attribute decision making (MADM) strategy based on weighted NC-cross entropy. To show the feasibility and applicability, we solve a MADM problem using the proposed strategy.

Single valued neutrosophic set has king power to express uncertainty characterized by indeterminacy, inconsistency and incompleteness. Most of the existing single valued neutrosophic cross entropy bears an asymmetrical behavior and produce an undefined phenomenon in some situations. In order to deal with these disadvantages, we propose a new cross entropy measure under single valued neutrosophic set (SVNS) environment namely SN- cross entropy and prove its basic properties. Also we define weighted SN-cross entropy measure and investigate its basic properties. We develop a new multi attribute group decision making (MAGDM) strategy for ranking of the alternatives based on the proposed weighted SN-cross entropy measure between each alternative and the ideal alternative. Finally, a numerical example of MAGDM problem of investment potential is solved to show the validity and efficiency of proposed decision making strategy. We also present comparative anslysis of the obtained result with the results obtained form the existing solution strategies in the solution.

The concept of neutrosophic number is a significant mathematical tool to deal with real scientific problems because it can tackle indeterminate and incomplete information which exists generally in real problems. In this article, we use neutrosophic numbers (a + bI), where a and bI denote determinate component and indeterminate component respectively. We explore the situations in which the input information is needed to express in terms of neutrosophic numbers. We define score functions and accuracy functions for ranking neutrosophic numbers. We then define a cosine function to determine unknown criteria weights. We define neutrosophic number harmonic mean operators and proved their basic properties. Then, we develop two novel MCGDM strategies using the proposed aggregation operators. We solve a numerical example to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed two strategies. Sensitivity analysis with variation of “I” on neutrosophic numbers is performed to demonstrate how the preference ranking order of alternatives is sensitive to the change of “I”. The efficiency of the developed strategies is ascertained by comparing the obtained results from the proposed strategies with the existing strategies in the literature.

The paper investigates some similarity measures in interval bipolar neutrosophic environment for multi-attribute decision making problems. At first, we define Hamming and Euclidean distances measures between interval bipolar neutrosophic sets and establish their basic properties. We also propose two similarity measures based on the Hamming and Euclidean distance functions. Using maximum and minimum operators, we define new similarity measures and prove their basic properties. Using the proposed similarity measures, we propose a novel multi attribute decision making strategy in interval bipolar neutrosophic set environment. Lastly, we solve an illustrative example of multi attribute decision making and present comparison analysis to show the feasibility, applicability and effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

Bipolar neutrosophic set is an important extension of bipolar fuzzy set. This set is a hybridization of bipolar fuzzy set and neutrosophic set. Every element of a bipolar neutrosophic set consists of three independent positive membership functions and three independent negative membership functions. In this paper, we develop cross entropy measures of bipolar neutrosophic sets and prove its properties. We also define cross entropy measures of interval bipolar neutrosophic sets and prove its properties. Thereafter, we develop two novel multi-attribute decision making methods based on the proposed cross entropy measures. In the decision making framework, we calculate the weighted cross entropy measures between each alternative and the ideal alternative to rank the alternatives and choose the best one. We solve two illustrative examples of multi-attribute decision making problems and compare the obtained result with the results of other existing methods to show the applicability and effectiveness of the developed method. In the end, the main conclusion and future scope of research are summarized.

Along with the economic growth, the companies must contribute to social progress and promote environmental sustainability in equal harmony. Sustainable human resource management (SHRM) strategies make it possible to attain the economic, social and environmental goals of a firm. In this regard, a survey method is discussed using the literature review and online questionnaire to identify the main factors/indicators during the SHRM evaluation of manufacturing firms in India. Uncertainty is commonly occurred in the assessment of SHRM factors. As a generalized version of fuzzy sets, single-valued neutrosophic set (SVNS) has been demonstrated as a valuable tool to illustrate the indeterminate, inconsistent and uncertain data of realistic decision-making problems. Considering the idea of SVNSs, this study develops a hybrid multi-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) approach for assessing the SHRM of manufacturing firms under uncertainty settings. For this purpose, an SVN-alternative ranking order method accounting for two-step normalization (AROMAN) is proposed based on VIFI-score function-based decision experts’ (DEs’) weighting tool and integrated criteria weight-determining model to solve the MCGDM problems with fully unknown DEs and criteria weights. In this regard, we develop new SVN-distance measure to compute the degree of difference between SVNSs. Some examples are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of developed measure over the existing ones. In addition, new criteria weight-determination model is presented with the integration of objective weights through IVIF-distance measure-based model and subjective weights through ranking comparison (RANCOM) tool on SVNSs. The proposed ranking method is applied to an empirical study of SHRM assessment for manufacturing firms in India, which shows its applicability and feasibility. In this study, the evaluation criteria are characterized into social, environmental and economic aspects with DE’s opinions. Comparative and sensitivity analyses are made to show the strength and steadiness of presented approach. This study provides an innovative MCGDM analysis framework, which makes a significant contribution to the SHRM assessment problem under indeterminate, inconsistent and uncertain setting.

In this way, some approaches are applied to get some sets from (Neutrosophic)n-SuperHyperGraph and after that, some ideas are applied to get different types of super-closing numbers which are called by optimal-super-resolving number, optimal-super-coloring number and optimal-super-dominating number. The notion of dual is another new idea which is covered by these notions and results. In the setting of dual, the set of super-vertices is exchanged with the set of super-edges. Thus these results and definitions hold in the setting of dual. Setting of neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph is used to get some examples and solutions for two applications which are proposed. Both setting of SuperHyperGraph and neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph are simultaneously studied but the results are about the setting of n-SuperHyperGraphs. Setting of neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph get some examples where neutrosophic hypergraphs as special case of neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph are used. The clarifications use neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph and theoretical study is to use n-SuperHyperGraph but these results are also applicable into neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph. Special usage from different attributes of neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph are appropriate to have open ways to pursue this study. Different types of procedures including optimal-super-set, and optimal-super-number alongside study on the family of (neutrosophic)n-SuperHyperGraph are proposed in this way, some results are obtained. General classes of (neutrosophic)n-SuperHyperGraph are used to obtains these closing numbers and super-closing numbers and the representatives of the optimal-super-coloring sets, optimal-super-dominating sets and optimal-super-resolving sets. Using colors to assign to the super-vertices of n-SuperHyperGraph and characterizing optimal-super-resolving sets and optimal-super-dominating sets are applied. Some questions and problems are posed concerning ways to do further studies on this topic. Using different ways of study on n-SuperHyperGraph to get new results about closing numbers and super-closing numbers alongside sets in the way that some closing numbers super-closing numbers get understandable perspective. Family of n-SuperHyperGraph are studied to investigate about the notions, super-resolving and super-coloring alongside super-dominating in n-SuperHyperGraph. In this way, sets of representatives of optimal-super-colors, optimal-super-resolving sets and optimal-super-dominating sets have key role. Optimal-super sets and optimal-super numbers have key points to get new results but in some cases, there are usages of sets and numbers instead of optimal-super ones. Simultaneously, three notions are applied into (neutrosophic)n-SuperHyperGraph to get sensible results about their structures. Basic familiarities with n-SuperHyperGraph theory and neutrosophic n-SuperHyperGraph theory are proposed for this article.

In this paper we focus on the association of sound and sense harmony in the collection of sonnets written by Shakespeare in the XVI° beginning of XVII° century and propose a new four-dimensional representation to visualize them by means of the system called SPARSAR. To compute the degree of harmony and disharmony, we have automatically extracted the sound grids of all the sonnets and have combined them with the semantics and polarity expressed by their contents. We explain in details the algorithm and show the representation of the whole collection of 154 sonnets and comment them extensively. In a second experiment, we use data from manual annotation of the sonnets for Satire detection using the Appraisal Theory Framework, to gauge the system's accuracy in matching these data with the output of the automatic algorithm for sound-sense harmony. The results obtained with an 94.6% accuracy confirm the obvious fact that the poet has to account for both sound and meaning in the choice of words.

Background: Injecting drug use is a global public health challenge with multifaceted consequences, not only for Injecting Drug Users (IDUs) but also for society at large. Their vulnerability necessitates a deeper exploration of their health information needs, aiming to leverage evidence-based research to shape effective interventions for their well-being. Method: This study employed a qualitative method to gain insights into disease conditions and health information needs of IDUs. Through purposive sampling, 71 in-depth interviews were conducted and thematically analyzed. Results: The study included 43 males and 28 females, predominantly aged 26-35 (59.2%) who had poor socioeconomic status. The most commonly reported disease conditions varied and included malaria, infections and diabetes. Findings revealed a complex understanding of their disease conditions and management practices. Participants emphasized a critical need for access to reliable and comprehensive health information, while also highlighting the significant barriers they face in obtaining this information. Additionally, their preference for receiving health information in video formats, written articles, and through outreach programs underscored their desire for knowledge to make informed decisions. As co-creators and stakeholders in their health, participants expressed a clear demand for sustainable and free healthcare, mosquito nets, and regular outreach programs. Conclusions: While drug use presents a significant public health issue, effective interventions for IDUs require a multifaceted approach that begins with understanding their perspectives and actively involving them as co-creators of their health solutions. Abandoning this population contradicts the Sustainable Development Goals' mandate to ensure no one is left behind. Thus, all stakeholders must prioritize inclusive and participatory approaches to address the complex health information needs of IDUs.

With the increase in mercury pollution around the world, several bacteria have been identified that are capable of resisting mercury toxicity. With this in mind, the aim of this review was to determine which genes are involved in mercury resistance, which bacterial genera exhibit this resistance and which bacterial isolation sources have been most reported. To answer these questions, the PICO method (population, intervention, comparison and outcome) was used, three databases were searched and 17 relevant articles were included. As a result, resistance is due to a set of mer genes that transcribe mer proteins. The most important genes identified were merA and merR, and their proteins confer resistance by reducing Hg to Hg+2 or Hg0. Among the bacteria studied, those of the genera Pseudomonas, Escherichia and the phylum Cyanobacteria stand out, the most important being Escherichia coli and Synechocystis sp. which are highly efficient and fast at reducing Hg. Based on the results, Escherichia coli and Synechocystis sp. are promising candidates for reducing environmental Hg, especially in aquatic environments. However, there is a lack of studies on the mechanism of bioremediation carried out by cyanobacteria and the influence of abiotic factors on the presence and/or expression of mer genes.

Background: Influenza is a highly contagious viral virus that affects millions of people globally each year, causing major morbidity, mortality, and economic consequences. Despite vaccine availability, seasonal flu outbreaks continue, exacerbated by virus mutations and varied transmission patterns. The Eastern Cape region of South Africa faces specific obstacles when it comes to flu management, such as limited healthcare access and dependence on traditional treatments. Methods: Patients from various backgrounds in the rural Eastern Cape who had flu and consented to be participants of the study were surveyed to assess symptom severity, duration, and management options. To compare the efficacy of medical treatments with home cures, data was analysed using descriptive statistics and independent t-tests. Results: Symptom severity ranged from mild to severe, and the average duration of symptoms varied according to the therapy approach chosen. Medical therapies, including antiviral drugs, were found to lessen symptom severity and duration, whereas home cures provided symptomatic relief but were less successful in severe cases. Symptom severity differed significantly between therapy methods (p &lt; 0.05).Conclusions: The study emphasises the significance of prompt medical attention in managing influenza symptoms, especially in high-risk individuals. It also emphasises the importance of increasing access to healthcare in the Eastern Cape in order to improve outcomes for flu patients.

The increasing focus on environmental sustainability has prompted the healthcare sector, including dentistry, to reconsider waste management practices. Dental offices generate various waste streams from outdated technologies, including single-use plastics, hazardous materials, and digital waste. This scoping review explores how integrating circular economy principles with lean management practices can enhance sustainability and operational efficiency in dental clinics. Using the PRISMA methodology, the review identifies 30 articles that passed 1) the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool and b) the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) checklist from 2000. Circular economy principles focus on reducing waste and maximizing resource reuse, while lean management seeks to improve efficiency and minimize process waste. Together, these approaches can significantly reduce resource consumption and enhance recycling efforts in dental practices. However, barriers include high costs of sustainable technologies, regulatory challenges, and limited recycling infrastructure. The study also highlights case studies of healthcare and dental clinics successfully implementing these strategies, showing how they can overcome challenges and improve environmental and operational outcomes. Collaboration between dental professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders is essential for promoting the adoption of these sustainable practices.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplants are usually used in cases where patients have active cancerous illness in their bone marrow, but allogeneic transplants can cause graft vs. host disease. If autologous HSCs could be purged of cancer cells, they could then be used for transplantation purposes without concern. It is still controversial whether purging is necessary, but it certainly would alleviate concerns. A novel method of purging is discussed herein that does not require chemotherapy and is targeted for each patient. It could be applied either in vitro or in vivo.

Cysteine plays a crucial role in the development of an efficient copper-catalyst system, where its thiol group serves as a strong anchoring site for metal coordination. By immobilizing copper onto cysteine-modified, polydopamine-coated magnetite nanoparticles, this advanced catalytic platform exhibits exceptional stability and catalytic activity. Chemical modification of the polydopamine (PDA) surface with cysteine enhances copper salt immobilization, leading to the formation of the Fe₃O₄@PDA-Cys@Cu nanostructure. This system was evaluated in palladium-free, copper-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling reactions, effectively catalyzing the coupling of terminal acetylenes with aryl halides. Additionally, the Fe₃O₄@PDA-Cys@Cu platform was employed in click reactions, confirming the enhanced catalytic efficiency due to increased copper content. The reusability of the platform was further investigated, demonstrating improved performance, especially in recyclability tests in click reaction, making it a promising candidate for sustainable heterogeneous catalysis.

To quantify the ecological impacts of organic sediments and environmental dredging, benthic mollusks were chosen to serve as bioindicators of environmental change, measured as sediment organic content and associated parameters. Data on species richness, biodiversity, and abundances were collected alongside sediment and near-bottom water quality data before, during, and after environmental dredging. Organic sediment content was found to have an inverse logarithmic relationship with benthic mollusk biodiversity, species richness, and abundance. Sediments with lower organic content had higher biodiversity (up to 1.337), while sediments with higher organic content had low biodiversity (0-0.6667). Post-hoc analyses found that percent dissolved oxygen, which correlates with sediment organic content, was responsible for 29.31-34.12% of the benthic mollusk community variation.

Aristotle is often looked to as providing a potentially appropriate model for a naturalistic human psychology that is able to reconcile the commonly opposed normative or “manifest” and factual or “scientific” images of the world. In contrast, this paper argues for the greater relevance of Plato’s comparatively neglected approach, exploring this in the context of a psychophysics of colour perception—a topic still resistant to formalization in modern science. While Plato’s natural philosophy is often dismissed as caught up in a fanciful pre-scientific approach based on the “harmonies” of Pythagorean music theory (the so-called “music of the spheres”), it is argued that such Pythagorean harmony theory had actually provided Plato with the rudiments of contemporary mathematical tools useful for the study of colour phenomena, tools such as projective geometry, linear algebra, algebraic topology, and graph theory. It is argued that Plato’s approach to the psychophysics of colour underlies the colour phenomena discovered by Goethe in the nineteenth century, phenomena that are consistent with modern mathematical analyses of order. It is Plato, not Aristotle, whose work is suggestive of a successful psychophysical approach to colour.

Background: Medical and mental health conditions have a reciprocal relationship, with each impacting the other. Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CLP) is a sub-specialty that addresses psychiatric co-morbidities in the general hospital system and positively impacts hospital resources through its service aspects of ‘consultation’ and ‘liaison’. This multi-faceted evaluation aims to describe and evaluate the characteristics of a regional CLP service. Methods: Retrospective evaluation of all referrals accepted by CLP between May 2021-2022 were reviewed through the hospital’s electronic records. An evaluation tool was designed to assess multiple aspects of care including the source of referrals, the reasons for referral, patient demographics, how quickly the patient was seen, information of their mental health, and the details and timeframe of CLP involvement. Findings: There were 147 patients included in the study. Doctors were the primary referrers (92%). A total of 94% of patients were reviewed within 24 hours of the referral being received. Referral reasons were balanced across diagnostic clarification/review, medication review and risk review. A large proportion of referrals were aged &gt;60 years. There was a large proportion of patients that lived rurally requiring hospital transfer. CLP involvement was primarily required to provide a diagnosis (91% of patients) and provide pharmacological management advice (88%). Conclusion: The CLP service currently operates with limited resources, and without additional support, the sustainability of the service will become increasingly challenged due to population aging. It is essential that we address this issue to ensure that the community's needs are met effectively.

The lack of access to drinking water is a problem that affects many towns in the Province of Santa Fe. Many people affected by this situation use groundwater for consumption, cooking, and irrigation. In this work, a colorimetric analytical technique is used to quantify arsenic. It is sufficiently sensitive, simple, and economical to apply to the towns of interest. This work synthesized a hybrid sorbent in the form of magnetite-chitosan spheres (M-Q). The sorption capacity of this new sorbent for As removal was 270% greater than that of chitosan spheres (Q), which was 30%. Another advantage of this hybrid sorbent is the capability of being sep-arated by its magnetic properties. The work was done with groundwater (Andino, Province of Santa Fe) with high conductivity (12.1 µS/cm), hardness (1125 mg/L CaCO3), and an As(V) concentration of 265 µg/L. The removal capacity from groundwater was optimized using a composite factorial design, and for the conditions of mass 0.49 g, pH 5.24, and contact time of 81.23 min, it was found to be 81%.

No study has focused on Uvaria macrophylla leaves with various traditional efficiencies. This paper therefore applied a database-affinity ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole orbitrap tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC‑Q‑Orbitrap‑MS/MS) strategy, to analyze the lyophilized aqueous extract of U. macrophylla leaves. Through database comparison and MS fragment elucidation, the study has putatively identified 41 constituents belonging to flavonoid, phenolic acid, steroid, saccharide natural product classifications. Significantly, 4 groups of isomers (liquiritigenin vs isoliquiritigenin vs pinocembrin; oroxylin A vs wogonin vs galangin 3-methyl ether; isoquercitrin vs hyperoside; protocatechuic acid vs 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid) have been successfully distinguished from each other. All of 41 constituents were then subjected to a quantitative analysis based on linear regression equation established by the above UHPLC‑Q‑Orbitrap‑MS/MS strategy, and an ABTS+•-scavenging antioxidant assay. Finally, the chemical content was multiplied by the corresponding ABTS+•-scavenging percentage to calculate the antioxidant contribution. It was shown that the chemical contents of 41 constituents varied from 0.003 ± 0.000 to 14.418 ± 1.041 mg/g, and gallic acid showed the highest antioxidant contribution. Gallic acid is considered as a suitable antioxidant quality-marker (Q-marker) of U. macrophylla leaves. These findings have scientific implications for resource development and quality-control of U. macrophylla leaves.

This research uses the DPSIR framework to analyse and anticipate Taiwan's marine ecosystems' ecological security. The goal is to understand how human-induced pressures including pollution, overfishing, habitat loss, and climate change affect Taiwan's marine habitats. For Taiwanese maritime ecological security assessments, the DPSIR framework, case studies, and assessment models are used. The DPSIR model classifies human activities, environmental pressures, marine ecosystem states, effects, and reactions. Assessment models complement the DPSIR framework for systematic and quantitative evaluation, while case studies are practical. This systematic literature review follows PRISMA guidelines for thoroughness and organisation. The research shows the DPSIR framework's adaptability and efficacy in analysing Taiwan's complex marine biological processes. Human-induced stressors on marine states are revealed via a comprehensive examination of causes, pressures, states, consequences, and responses, contributing to ecological security discourse. The DPSIR model helps Taiwan identify environmental change sources, analyse pressures, and provide sustainable marine environmental management solutions. The research concludes that the DPSIR framework is crucial to Taiwan's maritime environmental preservation. Despite its strengths, the DPSIR framework has to be refined and customised to Taiwan's unique maritime environments. Taiwan's maritime protection policies are shaped by the study's evidence-based findings. The report also recommends combining the DPSIR framework with SWOT analysis to improve evaluation and decision-making in Taiwan's marine environmental protection setting.

Background: Colorectal Cancer screening programs are effective in reducing incidence and mor-tality. In Europe, every FIT+ patient is referred to colonoscopy. Available data shows that ~75.0% of these patients are negative. It is desirable to select patients at greater risk of having a positive colonoscopy. Methods: 711 subjects, aged 50-74, attending the screening program of ASL-NA-3-SUD (Na-ples, Italy), were enrolled in a cross-sectional study to evaluate the performance of QuantiDNA™ test and non-inferiority of an alternative approach (AAP). This evaluation is based on FIT+ and QuantiDNA™+ patients referred to colonoscopy, compared to Standard of Care (SOC), colon-oscopy following a FIT+ test alone. A non-inferiority margin for Colorectal Neoplasia (CN) and Advanced Adenomas (AA) was set at -10% and at -3.8% for CRC. Results: The odds ratio was 1.76 (p-value= 0.009). The detection rate of AAP was 15.9% for colorectal neoplasia (CN), 13.0% for advanced adenoma (AA), and 3.0% for CRC. The risk dif-ference between AAP and SOC was -5.07% (95% C.I -9.23, -0.90) for CN, -4.02% (95% C.I. -7.89, -0.16) for AA, and -1.04% (95% C.I. -3.16, 1.07) for CRC. This data suggests that AAP is non-inferior to SOC for detecting CN, AA, and CRC. The expected decrease in colonoscopies is 33.4%. Conclusions: The QuantiDNA™ test is straightforward, non-invasive, and well-tolerated. Data from this study indicates it is effective in the reduction of the need for colonoscopy examina-tions (-33.4%) and is non-inferior to SOC in the detection of significant colorectal lesions.

One of the most hotly debated topics in technology is the transparency between AI models and humans. As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to permeate various sectors, the demand for transparency in AI decision-making has become increasingly critical. This paper presents a comprehensive review of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI), examining 57 key studies that focusing on various explanation approaches and their impact on the trust and accountability of end-users. Recognizing the obstacles resulting from the black-box nature of AI models, this work focuses on the need for the proper methods that can be used in the explanation process, enabling both people and AI models to work together. The findings highlight the importance of XAI in enhancing trust, particularly in complex environments such as healthcare and finance, and propose directions for future research to further develop reliable and interpretable AI solutions.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) diagnosis can be a challenge due to the large spectrum of pathogenic variants in the CFTR gene and the effects of complex alleles. Next-generation sequencing has improved our understanding of the contribution of these complex alleles to the wide spectrum of CF clinical symptoms and to the response to medications. Herein, we studied nine CF patients from six unrelated families carrying the complex allele p.[Ile148Thr;Ile1023_Val1024del] with a frequency of 0.18%. All the patients were from Central Mexico. This complex allele was found in trans with Class I and II pathogenic variants (PVs) such as [c.1521_1523del, p.(Phe508del), and c.3231_3232del, p.(Phe1078Profs*77)]. A targeted search of a dataset of 2,217 exomes from healthy individuals revealed that eight individuals (0.18%) carried the p.(Ile148Thr) variant, but only one (0.022%), who was also born in Central Mexico, was a carrier of the complex allele. These findings led us to hypothesize a founder effect for the p.[Ile148Thr;Ile1023_Val1024del] complex allele in Mexican patients with CF, probably through migration from the French-Canadian population in Mexico. Finally, protein modeling revealed that this complex allele disrupts the secondary structure of the CFTR protein and might alter the ion flow.

In recent studies it has been shown that fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) may reveal intracellular structural details in unstained cytological preparations which are not revealed by standard staining procedures. The aim of this investigation was to show whether FLIM images could reveal areas suggestive of polymerization in red blood cells (RBCs) of sickle cell disease (SCD) patients. We examined air-dried unstained blood films using auto-fluorescence FLIM images of 45 SCD patients and compared the results with those of 27 control persons without hematological disease. All control RBCs revealed homogeneous cytoplasm without any foci. Rounded non-sickled RBCs in SCD showed between zero and three small intensively fluorescent dots with higher lifetime values. In sickled RBCs we found additionally larger irregularly shaped intensively fluorescent areas with increased FLIM values. These areas were interpreted as equivalent to polymerized hemoglobin. The rounded non-sickled RBCs of SCD patients with homogeneous cytoplasm were not different from those of erythrocytes of control patients in light microscopy. Yet, variables from the local binary pattern transformed matrix of the FLIM values per pixel, showed significant differences between non-sickled RBCs and those of control cells. In a linear discriminant analysis, using local binary pattern transformed texture features (mean and entropy) of the erythrocyte cytoplasm of normal appearing cells, the final model could distinguish between SCD patients and control persons with an accuracy of 84.7% of the patients.

We offer a generalization of the conventionally used dead-time correction formulas, provided by Dytlewski, for neutron multiplicity counting. This aims to take into account the conditional effects of gate opening and in-gate neutron losses, and thus, extends to correlated pulse streams. The provided formulas are simple and include explicitly corrected rates obtained with the conventional method. In the limit of weakly correlated pulses with low count rates the generalized formulas reduce to Dytlewski’s expressions. We also performed the numerical validation of the method by simulating pulse-trains sets, evaluating the generalized dead-time correction accuracy and comparing it to the conventional one.

Background/Objectives: Photoimmunotherapy (PIT) is an innovative approach for the targeted treatment of cancer. In PIT, photosensitizer dyes are conjugated to tumor-specific antibodies for targeted delivery into cancer cells. Upon irradiation with visible light, the photosensitizer dye is activated and induces cancer specific cell death. In the present study, we describe the PIT of prostate cancer as novel therapeutic option for the targeted treatment of localized prostate cancer. Methods: We conjugated the new silicon phthalocyanine dye, WB692-CB2, to recombinant cysteine-modified anti-CD44 and EpCAM antibodies via a maleimide linker and tested the antibody dye conjugates for PIT on prostate cancer (PC) and prostate cancer stem cell (PCSC)-like cells. Results: The anti-CD44 and anti-EpCAM antibody dye conjugates showed specific binding and high cytotoxicity against PC and PCSC-like cells following irradiation with red light. Combinatorial treatment with both conjugates led to enhanced cytotoxic effects. Conclusions: WB692-CB2-based PIT can serve as an effective focal therapy, preserving the prostate gland, and minimizing side effects. It can be employed during radical prostatectomy (RP) to treat residual tumor cells or lymph node metastases in areas where further surgical intervention is not feasible. Utilizing multiple conjugates against antigens expressed on differentiated PC and PCSC-like cells, such as CD44 and EpCAM, could be an effective method to eradicate residual cancer cells in heterogeneous tumors. This approach could lead to the prevention of local recurrence after RP and thus to the complete cure of PC patients.

We developed a versatile 100 Hz laser system based on negatively and positively chirped pulse amplification. The few-cycle output provides pulses with 7.1 fs and 0.25 mJ, while the power output supports 26 fs pulses with 50 mJ. The energy as well as the pulse duration stability of the system is below 1%, while the pointing stability is within 25% of the diffraction limited spot size. We also show applications in high repetition rate target development and preparation for a laser-generated X-ray source for industrial CT imaging.

The paper focuses on the Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and the importance of incorporating participatory democracy and inclusivity, from a region-wise perspective. Traditionally MSP is a top-down central government process. Most responsibilities, competencies and jurisdiction lie at the national level, with limited input from local or regional stakeholders. However, the growing complexity of marine activities and the need for sustainable management of marine environment re-quires more inclusive and collaborative approaches. Drawing on the REGINA-MSP project, the paper explores how regional stakeholders can be more effectively engaged in MSP processes. The project, co-funded by the EU/EMFF, aims to consolidate MSP in the member states, through the strengthening of the role of regions and regional stakeholders. It does so, by applying a 3-step methodology, using tools like stakeholder database and ranking, interest-influence matrices and questionnaires. The paper emphasizes that achieving inclusivity in MSP at the regional level is highly associated with involving all relevant stakeholders. The paper identifies seven categories of regional stakeholders. Among them fishers are the ones having the lowest level of engagement and degree of representativeness in the MSP process, despite being among the most traditional marine users, and by association the more experienced holders of citizen science. Regarding regions and regional authorities (NUTS 2), they may also be considered as “outsiders” in the -nationally driven- MSP process, although this can be reversed, using regional and cross-regional Communities of Practice. In conclusion, the paper highlights the value of participatory democracy in MSP, and the importance to go regional and explore a more bottom-up approach that works in favor of advanced participatory democracy and inclusiveness in terms of stakeholders. The REGINA-MSP project provides valuable insights into how this can be achieved through a structured stakeholder engagement and the development of Communities of Practice.

This study examines the varying performance of low-cost sensors during seasonal smog events, particularly those resulting from solid fuel combustion linked to residential or industrial heating and other pollution sources. A prototype low-cost sensor node developed within this work was collocated for several months with reference equipment at an air quality monitoring station in the city of Ostrava (Moravian-Silesian region, Czech Republic). Deterioration of air quality during a pair of smog alert events, namely wintertime "Polish smog" episode and springtime "Saharan dust storm", which occurred through the extended period of co-location, was characterized quantitatively based on particulate matter and carbon monoxide concentrations measured by the low-cost sensors. These datasets were compared with reference data and model predictions provided by the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service. Selected low-cost sensors demonstrated linear response during Polish smog episode with highly correlated time series of carbon monoxide and particulate matter concentrations. However, when compared to reference data, the Sensirion SPS30 sensor is found to overestimate coarse particle (PM10) concentrations by the factor of two during winter evaluation period. On the other hand, oppositely biased PM10 response (underestimation by the factor of five) was determined from co-location measurement during Saharan dust storm event. This observation was attributed to combination of specific detection efficiency of the given low-cost sensor and shifts in particle size distribution due to seasonal change of ambient conditions.

Background: Kidney transplantation is the therapy of choice for patients with advanced chronic kidney disease; however, predicting graft outcomes remains a significant challenge. Early identification of reliable biomarkers could enhance post-transplant management and improve long-term outcomes. This study aimed to identify metabolomic biomarkers within the first week post-kidney transplantation that predict renal function at six months. Methods: We conducted a prospective study involving 50 adult patients who received deceased donor kidney transplants. Plasma samples collected one-week post-transplant were analyzed using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry in a semi-targeted metabolomic approach. A Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) model identified metabolites associated with serum creatinine &gt;1.5 mg/dL at six months. Metabolites were selected based on a Variable Importance in Projection (VIP) score &gt;1.5, which was used to optimize model performance. Results: The PLS-DA model demonstrated strong predictive performance with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.958. The metabolites negatively associated with serum creatinine &gt;1.5 mg/dL were 3-methylindole, guaiacol, histidine, 3-indolepropionic acid, and α-lipoic acid. Conversely, metabolites positively associated with worse kidney graft outcomes included homocarnosine, 5-methylcytosine, xanthosine, choline, phenylalanine, kynurenic acid, and L-kynurenine. Conclusions: Early metabolomic profiling post-transplantation shows promise in predicting renal function. Identifying metabolites with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as those that are harmful and could be targeted therapeutically, underscores their potential clinical significance. The link between several metabolites and the tryptophan pathway suggests that further specific evaluation of this pathway is warranted. These biomarkers can enhance patient management and graft survival.

Hydrogen is a clean-burning fuel with water as its only by-product, yet its widespread adoption is hampered by logistical challenges. Liquid organic hydrogen carriers, such as alcohols from sustainable sources, can be converted to hydrogen through aqueous phase reforming (APR), a promising technology that bypasses the energy-intensive vaporization of feedstocks. However, the hydrothermal conditions of APR pose significant challenges to catalyst stability, which is crucial for its industrial deployment. This review focuses on the stability of catalysts in APR, particularly in sustaining hydrogen production over extended durations or multiple reaction cycles. Additionally, we explore the potential of ultrasound-assisted APR, where sonolysis enables hydrogen production without external heating. Although the technological readiness of ultrasound-assisted APR currently trails behind thermal APR, the development of catalysts optimized for ultrasound use may unlock new possibilities in the efficient hydrogen production from alcohols.

The saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) plays a pivotal role in desert ecosystems, making its population monitoring essential. Traditional census methods used by the United States Forestry Service are resource-intensive, prompting a need for more cost-effective alternatives. Automated detection methods using advanced object detection models applied to drone imagery present a promising solution. In a proof-of-concept study, 244 drone images of saguaros were captured from a top-down perspective over an undeveloped hill adjacent to Sun Ray Park, Phoenix, Arizona (33.3188° N, 111.9980° W), from altitudes of 486, 507, and 519 meters above mean sea level (AMSL). We employed the Mask R-CNN model from the Detectron2 framework for model training. The images were divided into training, validation, and test sets in an approximate 8:1:1 ratio, with the sets separated by their physical locations within the park: training data was centralized, validation data was positioned to the east, and test data was located in the west. The Mask R-CNN achieved an average precision of 89.8% and an average F1 score of 90.3% in identifying saguaros across 27 test images from 486/507 m AMSL, demonstrating the model's effectiveness in accurately identifying saguaro cacti. Despite the limited sample size, the model's adaptability to diverse scenarios underscores its potential for practical applications in ecological conservation. This research contributes to the field of automated monitoring by offering a viable alternative to labor-intensive methods, thus supporting the sustainability of saguaro in their native habitat.

This study examines the effects of tourism development on the well-being of impoverished residents in both urban (La Candelaria, Bogotá) and rural (La Macarena, Meta) regions of Colombia. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the findings reveal that personal economic benefits from tourism are the most vital factor in enhancing residents' happiness and life satisfaction. The analysis outlines a pathway from economic gain to happiness, improving life satisfaction. Additionally, the study highlights tourism's role in exacerbating the urban-rural divide, offering insights into migration trends and regional inequality. Practical recommendations are provided for policymakers to ensure balanced tourism development across regions.

The aim of this study involved the optimisation of the processes of laser cladding using statistical tools to improve the mechanical properties of the clad WC/Co/Ni deposits and to obtain the required weld for practical applications. The effect of laser cladding parameters on wear properties of welds was determined by using orthogonal array tests and analysis of variance. It was found that Co content, Ni content, laser power and scanning height were significant factors affecting WC/Co/Ni welds. In addition, the significant factor in response surface method was used to construct the response surface model based on the data from the orthogonal array experiment that was designed by Taguchi. The experimental results showed that a look at the microstructural evolution shows that white initially precipitated carbides are present, grey areas are WC mixed with Co and Ni compounds, meanwhile, the wear structure is an internal extension of unmelted WC, with greater plastic deformation in the Co-based alloys, and to a lesser extent in the Ni-based alloys, and even smaller plastic deformation in the WC-Co-Ni alloys. By adding nickel/cobalt alloys, the composite coating extension is seen to have good anti-wear performance. Based on the regression model of the wear by laser cladding, a pairwise interaction model in RSM was developed, which was further deepened to develop a three-dimensional contour pairwise interaction model of the wear behaviour. The results show that the predicted values of the RSM for wear performance are very close to the experimental data, which proves the effectiveness of the Taguchi design-based RSM in improving the mechanical properties of laser cladding.

The salivary microbiota of Italian and sub-Saharan African individuals was investigated using Nanopore Sequencing Technology (ONT- Oxford Nanopore Technologies). We detected variations in community composition in relation to endogenous (ethnicity, sex and diplotypic variants of the TRPV1 gene) and exogenous (sensitivity to capsaicin) factors. The results showed that, Prevotella, Haemophilus, Neisseria, Streptococcus, Veillonella and Rothia, are the most abundant genera, in accordance with the literature. However, alpha diversity and frequency spectra differed significantly between DNA pools. The microbiota in African, male, TRPV1 bb/ab diplotype and capsaicin low sensitive DNA pools was more diverse than Italian, female, TRPV1 aa diplotype and capsaicin high sensitive DNA pools. Relative abundance differed at phylum, genus and species level.

In recent decades, numerous studies have focused on finding environmentally friendly substitutes for commonly used petrochemical–based compounds. This paper explores the potential use of poly-L-lysine/rhamnolipids and poly-L-glutamic acid/ethyl lauroyl arginate mixtures, for foam formation and stabilization. Two complementary methods were employed to investigate the synergistic and antagonistic effects of these mixed polyelectrolyte/surfactant systems: (1) the thinning and rupture of thin foam films formed under dynamic conditions were monitored using a dynamic fluid-film interferometer (DFI), and (2) foamability tests were conducted using a standard dynamic foam analyzer (DFA). The results demonstrated that adding polyelectrolyte to an oppositely charged surfactant primarily induces a synergistic effect, enhancing foaming properties and extending foam lifetime. Furthermore, interferometric methods confirmed improved stability and slower drainage of thin foam films in systems containing synthetic polypeptides.

In February of 2024, Dr. Jun Zhuang and Dr. Casey Kennington published a paper (Zhuang and Kennington, 2024) in which they classified large language model (LLM) survey papers into different taxonomies utilizing graph learning. In this paper, I evaluate the dataset they created and used and propose that in its current state, there is not enough samples to classify other survey papers into specific categories.

This paper presents a real-time eye blink detection system using computer vision techniques and machine learning. The system uti- lizes the MediaPipe face mesh model for facial landmark detection and calculates the Eye Aspect Ratio (EAR) to determine the eye state. Results demonstrate high accuracy and responsiveness, indicating po- tential applications in driver drowsiness detection, human-computer interaction, and medical diagnostics.

Accurately estimating project duration is critical for the successful delivery of construction projects, particularly in the dynamic and resource-constrained environment of South Africa. This study aims to assess the key factors influencing construction project duration in the South African context through the development of a regression model. By analyzing data from a diverse range of construction projects, the research identifies significant variables such as project size, complexity, location, resource availability, and stakeholder involvement that contribute to delays or expedited completion. The regression model is designed to quantify the impact of these factors, offering a predictive tool that can enhance project planning and scheduling accuracy. The findings provide valuable insights for project managers, contractors, and policymakers, enabling them to make informed decisions that optimize project timelines and improve the overall efficiency of the construction industry in South Africa.

Mexican yuca (Yucca decipiens Trel.) is native to the semidesert region across north-central Mexico. Based on its empirical medicinal uses, the flour produced from leaves and stems of yuca was evaluated to determine its agro-industrial and medicinal uses (food, beer, and mezcal). The flour was characterized based on the granulometry, rheology, texture, and functional properties, which were analyzed with the RStudio software. The results indicate that the water absorption capacity of yuca flour (data here) is similar to wheat flour; however, it absorbs half the volume of oil than wheat flour. Therefore, it has a hydrophilic behavior similar to that of wheat and a lower oil requirement for formulas. The expansion capacity of yuca flour is like that of wheat flour, showing an ideal gluten content for agro-industrial purposes (food) that require this structural component. The flour had a remarkable foam formation, high stability, and low-fat content. These results are particularly important for foods that require foaming properties. Fermentation matched the parameters of the 56-60 Physicochemical Test Methods of the Cereal &amp; Grains Association; consequently, their flours are classified as equal to flours produced from soft and weak wheat, supporting their use for fermentation processes. The internal friction values (0.85-0.92) suggest a limited flow; however, its high density shows a fine granulometry that facilitates the sacking, handling, and storing of the flour, complying with the Mexican standards, and allowing it to be added to combinations aimed to enrich food.

Gastric pH seems to be a key factor for the development of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS). It is influenced by the amount and duration of roughage uptake, as chewing increases the production of alkaline saliva. The protone-pump-inhibitor omeprazole is currently recommended by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine/European College of Equine Internal Medicine (ACVIM/ECEIM) consensus statement for therapy of both Equine Squamous Gastric Disease (ESGD) and Equine Glandular Gastric Disease (EGGD). We hypothesized that dental disorders decrease saliva production due to altered chewing and in consequence gastric pH, therefore predisposing horses to EGUS. In 54 horses, a gastroscopy with measurement of the intragastric pH after 12 hours of fasting and an examination of the oral cavity were carried out. Omeprazole therapy was recommended (n=32), dental disorders were corrected (n=22) and gastroscopy was repeated 4 weeks later (n=9). No influence of moderate-severe dental disorders on ESGD (grade ≥2/4) (p = 0.394) and EGGD (grade ≥2/3) (p = 0.857) could be determined. Nevertheless, there was a trend that moderate- severe dental disorders were associated with a low gastric pH (1-4) (p = 0.100). In conclusion, we found no evidence that gastroscopy should be recommend in horses with dental disorders and vice versa.

Influenza viruses are important pathogens that affect human and animal health. The ecology and epidemiology of influenza viruses are very complex because they have a diverse host range. Influenza A viruses are responsible for serious epidemics. Influenza B viruses cause respiratory disease in humans, seals, and pigs. Influenza C viruses are infectious to humans and pigs. Influenza D virus infects cattle, although it was first isolated from a sick pig in 2011. Only influenza A viruses are of clinical importance in pigs. Although influenza A viruses infect a variety of animal species, pigs are one of the natural hosts of these viruses. Swine influenza is a very serious respiratory disease in pigs, and its main causative agents are the H1N1, H1N2, and H3N2 subtypes, which are antigenically related to human influenza viruses. Pigs are susceptible to infection by avian and human influenza viruses and are thought to play a significant role in the ecology of human influenza. This review examines scientific articles on the zoonotic spread of swine influenza A viruses to humans, their circulation in pig populations worldwide, reverse zoonosis from humans to pigs, and the role of pigs in interspecies transmission.

In previous research, 1,2,3-triazolium salts showed significant biological activity as potential in-hibitors of the enzymes cholinesterases (ChEs), crucial for neurotransmission. In this research, pairs of uncharged thienobenzo-triazoles and their charged salts were prepared in order to ex-amine further the role of the positive charge on the nitrogen of the triazole ring on the interac-tions in the active site of the enzymes and to compare the selectivity of 1,2,3-triazolium salts in relation to their uncharged analogs obtained by photochemical cyclization. Neutral thienoben-zo-triazoles showed very good selective activity toward butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), while their salts showed excellent non-selective inhibition toward both BChE (the most active 23: IC50 0.47 mikroM) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzymes (the most active 23: IC50 4.4 mikroM). These new structures with incorporated 1,2,3-triazolium salts present the new scaffold for drug development as it is known that the current therapy in Alzheimer's disease (AD) are selective AChE inhibitors, while in Parkinson's and all stages of AD, non-selective inhibitors of ChEs are preferred. Molecular docking of the selected compounds and their corresponding salts into the active sites of ChEs was conducted to identify the interactions responsible for the stability of the non-covalent cholinesterase-ligand complexes. As genotoxicity studies are crucial when devel-oping new active substances and finished drug forms, in silico studies for all the synthesized compounds have shown that compound 18 is the most promising candidate for genotoxic safety.

Longitudinal research into the impact of Covid-19 on university student mental health beyond the pandemic is lacking. This study aims to address the gap in the literature by tracking the mental health of university students over a two-year period, spanning the Covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath. A two-year longitudinal study surveyed a sample of university students (n=302) three times between May 2020 and May 2022. Students’ psychological distress, generalised anxiety, flourishing, and personal wellbeing were assessed at each time point. It was found that students’ psychological distress levels spiked during the first year of the pandemic, but reverted back to baseline levels at two-year follow-up. While generalised anxiety gradually improved, both their psychological distress and generalised anxiety remained considerably worse than pre-pandemic norms. Students’ flourishing scores remained very low, while their life satisfaction and state happiness improved slightly between May 2021 and May 2022. These findings clearly demonstrate that students’ mental health is still in crisis, even after the Covid-19 pandemic. More needs to be done to support students beyond the pandemic generally, including this particularly unique cohort of students who endured unprecedented challenges for prolonged periods, and are now transitioning into the working world. Practical implications and recommendations are discussed.

In the field of Thermal Non-Destructive Testing and Evaluation (TNDT&E), active thermography gained popularity due to its fast, wide area monitoring and remote inspection capability to assess materials without compromising their future usability. Among the various active thermographic methods, pulse compression favourable frequency-modulated thermal wave imaging stands out for its enhanced detectability and depth resolution. In this study, experimental investigation has been carried out on a hardened steel sample used in ship building industry with a flat-bottom hole simulated defect using the Frequency Modulated Thermal Wave Imaging (FMTWI) technique. And the defect detection capabilities of FMTWI have been investigated from various statistical post processing approaches and compared by taking Signal to Noise Ration (SNR) as a figure of merit. Among various adopted statistical post-processing techniques, the pulse compression has been carried out using different methods: offset removal with polynomial curve fitting, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) which is an unsupervised learning approach for data reduction and offset removal with median centering for data standardization. The performance of these techniques was assessed through experimental investigations on hardened steel specimen used in ship building to provide valuable insights into their effectiveness in defect detection capabilities.

This study evaluates the efficiency of biodegradable polyurethane foams as thermal insulation materials compared to conventional materials like expanded polystyrene (EPS). Key parameters analyzed include thermal conductivity, energy savings, CO2 emission reductions, and investment payback periods. Biodegradable polyurethane foams demonstrated a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/(m·K), significantly lower than EPS's 0.035 W/(m·K), leading to higher energy savings. Calcu-lations reveal an annual energy saving of 443,820 kWh for polyurethane foams, compared to 441,330 kWh for EPS. Financially, polyurethane foams save approximately €53,258.4 annually, while EPS saves €52,959.6. In terms of environmental impact, polyurethane foams reduce CO2 emissions by 88,764 kg annually, versus 88,266 kg for EPS. Despite the higher initial cost of pol-yurethane foams (€50/m² compared to €30/m² for EPS), the payback period is remarkably short at 0.094 years (1.13 months) compared to EPS's 0.057 years (0.68 months). These findings highlight biodegradable polyurethane foams as a superior option for thermal insulation, offering significant energy, financial, and environmental benefits.

With the acceleration of urbanisation and the increase in underground space use, how to provide a comfortable and healthy environment in underground space has become an important research topic. This study constructed an environmental decision-making model for underground space by integrating human perception evaluation and physical environment factors. The study analysed the influence of physical environment parameters on users' perceived experience through field data collection and questionnaire surveys. The data were in-depth analysed using single-indicator fitted regression analysis and XGBoost machine learning model. The results reveal the significant influence of physical parameters such as temperature, humidity, illuminance and wind speed on the comfort of users of underground spaces and determine the range of appropriateness of these physical environment parameters. The results provide a reliable theoretical basis for optimising the design and management of underground spaces and help to enhance the environmental quality and user experience of underground spaces.

The present study examines the relationship between thermal and configurational entropy in two resistors in parallel and in series. The objective is to introduce entropy in electric circuits analysis by considering the impact of system geometry on energy conversion in the circuit. Thermal en-tropy is derived from thermodynamics, whereas configurational entropy is derived from network modelling. It is observed that the relationship between thermal entropy and configurational en-tropy varies depending on the configuration of the resistors. In parallel resistors, thermal entropy decreases with configurational entropy, while in series resistors, the opposite is true. The impli-cations of the maximum power transfer theorem and constructal law are discussed. The entropy generation for resistors at different temperatures was evaluated, and it was found that the con-sideration of resistor configurational entropy change was necessary for consistency. Furthermore, for the sake of generalization, a similar behavior was observed in time-dependent circuits, either for resistor-capacitor circuits or circuits involving degradation.

The analysis of the liquefaction potential of the ground is a fundamental characterization in areas with continuous seismic activity, such as Ecuador. Geotechnical liquefaction studies are usually approached from the application of dynamic penetration tests, which pose problems both in their execution and in their evaluation. The proposed research involves analyzing dynamic penetration tests and microtremor geophysical surveys (Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio, HVSR technique) at the base of the San Marcos dam, a reservoir destined for the irrigation water located in Cayambe (Ecuador). Based on the investigations performed at the time of construction of the dam (drilling and geophysical refraction profiles) and the application of 20 microtremor observation stations performed by the HVSR technique, an analysis of the Safety Factor of liquefaction (SFliq) has been conducted, proposed by Youd and Idriss in 2001, and based on the values of the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) applied in granular materials (sands). In addition, the vulnerability index (Kg) proposed by Nakamura in 1989 was analyzed through the HVSR passive seismic records related to the Ground Shear Strain (GSS). The results obtained in the HVSR surveys indicate the presence of a zone of about 100 m length in the central part of the foot of the dam, whose GSS values are identified with a condition of susceptibility to liquefaction. In the same area, the analysis applied from SPT essays in the P-8A drill hole executed in said area also shows a potential susceptibility to liquefaction in earthquake conditions greater than a moment magnitude (Mw) of 4.5, which could occur in the environment, for example, with a new activity condition of the nearby Cayambe volcano or even from an earthquake from the vicinity fractured zone.

KeraVio is a new portable corneal cross-linking (CXL) treatment modality in which violet light (VL)-emitting spectacles are used along with topical transepithelial riboflavin. We preliminarily identified endogenous riboflavin in the human cornea without the administration of riboflavin drops, and the relatively low intensity of VL irradiation increased corneal stiffness in porcine corneas (TVST 2021). This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical results of KeraVio without riboflavin drops. Patients with progressive keratoconus were enrolled and randomly divided into the VL irradiation alone group (Group 1) and the no irradiation group (Group 2; control group) (jRCTs032190267). The eyes were exposed to VL (375 nm, irradiance 310 μW/cm2)-emitting glasses for 4.5 hours daily for 6 months. The mean changes in the maximum keratometry value (Kmax) from baseline to 6 months were 0.94 ± 2.65 diopters (D) and 1.76 ± 2.75 D in Group 1 and Group 2, respectively (p=0.705). No differences were found between patients who did and did not receive VL irradiation in terms of the clinical outcomes of keratoconus. VL irradiation alone likely does not halt keratoconic progression, and the administration of riboflavin is necessary.

Tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) promote immune evasion, cancer cell proliferation, and metastasis. Ongoing research is focused on finding ways to prevent tumor growth by inhibiting TAM polarization, which has shown a correlation with unfavorable prognosis in clinical studies. Pancreatic adenocarcinoma upregulated factor (PAUF) is a protein secreted from pancreatic cancer (PC) and acts as a TME modulator that affects the TME by acting on not only cancer cells but also stromal cells and immune cells. Tumor cells can evade the immune system by PAUF binding to Toll-like receptor (TLR) in monocytes, as this research shows. In this study, the examination centered around the recruitment of human monocytes by PAUF and the subsequent differentiation into macrophages. In an in vitro chemotaxis assay, PAUF induced chemotactic migration of TLR2-mediated monocytes. In addition, PAUF induced differentiation of monocytes into M2 macrophages, which was verified based on expressing surface markers and cytokines and morphological analysis. The inhibition of T cell proliferation and function was observed in differentiated M2 macrophages. To conclude, these findings indicate that PAUF functions as a promoter of cancer progression by regulating the recruitment and differentiation of macrophages within TMEs, ultimately causing immunosuppression.

Approximately half of all women develop palpitations during pregnancy with a quarter experiencing arrhythmias. While most presentations are benign, some cases can result in sudden cardiac death or serious symptom development. Considering such clinical presentation, healthcare providers must acquire knowledge in this area to provide comprehensive prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care. However, no study could be located that focused on women’s lived experiences of such complications during or in the post-pregnancy period. The study aims to share the results of a study that explored the lived experience of one woman who developed non-sustained ventricular tachycardia during her third pregnancy that lasted into the post-partum period. Using Narrative Inquiry self-study methodology, a woman’s experiences were explored to uncover the challenges she faced in coping with such complications during a period of transition for herself and her family. This methodology allowed for an in-depth understanding of how these complications could affect all aspects of her life. Four narrative threads were produced: 1) diagnostic challenges and delayed recognition; 2) impact on maternal identity and family dynamics; 3) navigating healthcare systems and treatment decisions; and 4) long- term adaptation and resilience. The intention was to add to this topic area to ensure future researchers, current and future healthcare providers, and patients have literature they can refer to when studying, providing care for, or experiencing similar health complications. Acquiring this knowledge can aid healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate care is provided, risks are minimized and their recovery is well supported.

Magneto Hydrodynamic (MHD) propulsion presents an innovative and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional marine propulsion systems. By utilizing electromagnetic fields to generate thrust, MHD propulsion reduces both noise and air pollution, making it an appealing option for the future of commercial shipping. However, the widespread adoption of MHD technology has been limited by several significant challenges. High energy demands, particularly for generating the necessary magnetic fields, require advanced power sources such as nuclear reactors or large-scale batteries, which are impractical for most commercial vessels. Additionally, the cost of installing and maintaining the high-powered electromagnets and energy infrastructure remains prohibitively expensive. Furthermore, material durability is another concern, as system components such as electrodes are exposed to corrosion and wear due to their interaction with seawater and high electrical currents. By addressing these constraints, MHD propulsion has the potential to transform the commercial maritime industry, contributing to more sustainable and less polluting marine transportation. This paper explores the feasibility of overcoming these challenges through advancements in cost-effective energy efficient methods. We identify the primary limiting factor for the practical implementation of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) propulsion systems as the magnetic field strength. Drawing comparisons with similar applications, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies, we explore advancements in generating strong, homogenous magnetic fields over large volumes. Insights from these research areas provide a foundation for improving the scalability and efficiency of magnetic field generation in MHD systems.

Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4 and mBERT have revolutionized natural languageprocessing (NLP) by providing multilingual capabilities, making it possible to develop models thathandle diverse linguistic inputs across various languages. However, despite these advances, thereremains a noticeable performance gap between how well these models perform in high-resourcelanguages such as English and low-resource languages such as Nepali or Malagasy. We term thisphenomenon the "Babel Effect," highlighting the disproportionate performance that arises fromdifferences in resource availability across languages.This paper aims to explore the root causes of these performance discrepancies in LLMs, focusingon the underlying challenges in tokenization, training, and data scarcity. We utilize cross-lingualbenchmarks, such as XGLUE and TyDiQA, to quantify these performance variations and examinethem in detail. Furthermore, we propose solutions, including enhancing tokenization strategies,employing data augmentation techniques, and refining fine-tuning methods. The paper concludeswith a discussion on how these improvements can mitigate the Babel Effect and lead to more equitablelanguage modeling across diverse linguistic contexts.

We report a new synthesis method for multiple walled nested thin film nanostructures by combining hydrothermal growth methods with Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) thin film technology and sacrificial films thereby increasing the surface-to-volume ratio to improve the sensing performance of novel ZnO gas sensors. Single crystal ZnO nanorods serve as the core of the nanostructure assembly and were synthesized hydrothermally on fine-grained ALD ZnO seed films. Subsequently the ZnO core nanotubes were coated with alternating sacrificial co-axial 3-D wraparound ALD Al2O3 films and ALD ZnO films. Basically, an ALD 3-D wrap-around Al2O3 sacrificial layer was coating the center nanorod to realize a nested coaxial ZnO thin film nanotube. To increase the surface-to-volume ratio of the nested multiple film nanostructure both front and backside of the nested coaxial ZnO films must be exposed by selectively removing the intermittent Al2O3 sacrificial films. The selective removal of the sacrificial films exposes the front and backside of the free-standing ZnO films for interacting with target gases during sensing operation while steadily increasing the surface-to-volume ratio. The sensing response of the novel ZnO gas sensor architecture with nested nanotubes achieved a maximum 150% enhancement at low temperature compared to a conventional ZnO nanorod sensor.

Predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of mechanical bearings is crucial in the industry. 1 Estimating the RUL enables the assessment of health bearing, maintenance planning, and signifi- 2 cant cost reduction, thereby fostering industrial development. Existing models rely on traditional 3 feature engineering, with feature changes because operating conditions pose a major challenge to 4 the generalization of RUL prediction models. This study focuses on neural network-based feature 5 engineering and the downstream prediction of the RUL, eliminating the need for specific prior 6 knowledge and simplifying the development and maintenance of models. Initially, a convolutional 7 neural network (CNN) model is employed for feature engineering. Subsequently, a bidirectional 8 long short-term memory network (Bi-LSTM) model is used to capture the time-series degradation 9 characteristics of the engineered features and predict the RUL through regression. Finally, the study 10 examines the influence of operating conditions in the model and integrates domain adaptation to 11 minimize differences in feature distribution, thereby enhancing the model’s generalizability for the 12 RUL prediction.
